Cant believe I fell for these con artists. Lesson learned. They took advantage of an out of towner woman. Price are beyond 10x more than what product is worth. And product was broken. No receipts were given and I didnt bother asking for price because I needed the product and knew it was inexpensive. Thinking of reporting to 7 on your side. Gives NYC a bad name. Shame shame Shame on these low life con artists. And shame on me for letting the low life clerk sweet talk me. Ugh....but like I said lesson learned and I will warn people when Im in the city not to shop there. They flat out robbed me when they grabbed my credit card...... but I wont let it sway me from shopping in NYC and will keep sharing the story of these low lifes....
Recently moved to the city , I sent my 18 year old daughter here to purchase a new phone for herself being the one she had was cracked & it simply was time for a new one . They took advantage of the fact she had no knowledge of phones or the prices they should be . Charged her almost 700 $ for the iPhone 7plus . Tried to cover it up by giving her a “ free case “ mind you this is in September of 2020 . The iPhone 11 is 500$ at this time. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND these crooks!
Dont touch them. They sell refurbished equipment as new and practice bait & switch with crafty receipts that cover the lies. Bad guys. I didnt lose much but people lose hundreds here. Read the other reviews. Im sure theres good business in picking off tourists, but Im a local. I could have been a very good customer. But now theyve earned this.
Rude. Pushy. I asked question about the difference. He was a fast talker. I bought something they told me I was getting a good deal on. Should’ve trusted my instincts and walked out but at least It wasn’t way over priced. The manager came over to try to smooth it over when I demanded my money back and tried to say I was getting a good deal. I paid just a little more than b and h. Never again will I stop to window shop. They give small stores that are genuine a bad name
I had gone to a couple of stores before coming to 34th Street Camera & Computers looking for a new camera for myself because my camera had taken its last breath. They welcome me into the store and were so friendly. The sales rep was kind enough to explain the different features of each camera I wanted to see and also allowed me to try them out. He even explained the different features too. I spent a long time in the store and I didnt feel rush to buy just any camera. I love my camera and have taken lots of pictures of my grandchildren. Definitely recommend this store they take their time and dont just sell you anything. I got a really good buy for the camera I purchased.
I discovered Camera and Computers on 34th street one day while browsing Manhattan, NY, and decided that I needed to make a trip to the store. I was looking for a new unlocked phone and Fix my old phone, but had no clue how long the process would take or how complicated it would be. To my surprise, the staff was super friendly, even going as far as picking out Phone protector and case to go with my phone !The checkout was simple, and what sold me on buying their product was that it had a 1 year warranty for no extra price. The staff emailed and told me they would update me on the progress of my phone repair, which should be ready in 4-8 hours. This has been such an easy process, and its great supporting a small business. I will be returning for more Phones Cases and unlocked phones, when the time comes!
This shop undertakes a slick scam by using fake websites and pricing to hike prices. Then they reduce prices to make customers think they have a great deal. Lots of pressure provided with individuals resisting the scam distracted by other shop staff. They claim accurate pricing. Bottom line is I paid double for the products they sold me. Once you have time away from the shop to check pricing its too late. They do not take returns. They inform you that tax can be claimed back at the airports, not true. They craftily keep all packaging telling buyers that going through customs with packed goods attracts more tax, not true. They prey on tourists, lie and use fake pricing. Avoid this shop at all costs…
Bought a Canon video camera from here on Christmas Day. They were the only electronic store that I could find open during the holiday. They were very informative about the products, and also walked me through the setup process and functionality. Great price. Great product. And great customer service. I’ll definitely be back.
Beware!Wife & I called in yesterday looking for noise cancelling ear buds & staff seemed helpful, after some effort to keep them on track & assurances they were very good we purchased a Sony set.Upon return to our hotel we found they were not noise cancelling.Returned to store immediately seeking a refund as they did not have a suitable replacement.Apparently store has a no refund policy which we had not been advised of.We were advised to return in the morning to talk to Charlie as he was the only person that could approve it but he had gone home.Return next morning to be told by a person I suspect was Charlie that he would not be till the afternoon but said he would try to order the right ones in. Hardly acceptable when youre travelling & it would have been are fourth visit. In hindsight I realise they use clever selling tricks that we Australians are not use to & are in fact illegal at home.Do yourself a favour & shop elsewhere.
Buyer beware! I feel like a sucker for buying here. Paid more than $200 for headphones that are sold elsewhere for less than $60. Was told they rated “better than Bose” - and that I could bring them back if not happy. They didn’t work well, but “bring back” is for exchange only... they have a “no return” policy. Adding insult to injury, they then tried to upsell. There is absolutely no reason to buy anything here... go around the corner to Target, or buy from anyone with an actual satisfaction guarantee.
This place is a tourist trap scam store. I live in Manhattan and my dad was visiting from out of state. He was suckered into buying a $25 Bluetooth speaker for $300. The product can not be found anywhere online so there is no price comparison. Was also told about a $3500 projector that you can look up on Amazon. This store is the one selling on Amazon and they use as a price comparison and then come down to $1700. The projector cannot be found anywhere online. After he paid in cash they gave him a receipt printed from an adding machine with just numbers. It is not returnable and Im sure they are not paying taxes from an adding machine receipt. This store could not be more of a scam. Also, the last year all the 5 star reviews are people who have ONLY reviewed this store. Before that it is all 1 star scam reviews. Its embarrassing a place like this can stay in business scamming people. I sure hope karma catches up with this guys. I also reported these guys to yelp for their fake reviews. Dont step foot in this store for any reason!!
Croks. Stay away from this scam shop. Two years ago I was on my way to USS Intrepid. I was a tourist from Norway and have not been in New York before. Anyway, I needed a new lens cap for my camera and dropped in here. An indian-looking man in the 40s vent to a wall and started moving covers and price tags around. I didnt quite see what he did but it seemed strange. Ive played it over again in my mind later and realized that he had switched price tags. He quoted a price first but in the end I paid 5 times as much. Im agree on myself for beeing so easily fooled. Guess they though that they can do whatever they like to foreigners. But the worst is that the guy was very pushy and tried to trick me into buying a digital converter for $250. He even said that its much better than a analog one, even though everyone knows its opposite. I played along for a bit to see how far he was willing to go. But when I was tired of him and wanted to get out, he started to get aggressive. I should have used my Krav Maga on him :). On top of all, the shops boss came to me and told me that he needed the money :). There was also a woman in the 30-40s there who looked bored and ignorant. I think they put bet on whether he could fool me to buy the converter or not. Ive never experienced so rude and awful people anywhere in the world. I wonder how the great people of New York put up with people like this to give them bad reputation. Stay away. Use your money where the service is good and the people are decent.
Hindsight is wonderful but of little use when Ray, the S. O. B.(son of the boss) is working his bait & switch scam on you. Your gut is telling you these cameras are overpriced but he wont take no for an answer and somehow he gets you to sign up for the cheaper camera. Then he wont let you go until you have signed for the more expensive camera, with lens you dont want or need and a memory card for 400 dollars!!Lots of distraction by other shop staff and you just want out!Once away from the shop you realise what he has just done. So we went back to complain. This is the only bit I can say I liked about the whole experience, Rays look of shock when we walked back in the shop. He did not want to offer any refund as his claim is he has to price 400 dollar cameras for 6000 because of the shop costs in New York.We have given Ray his opportunity to redeem himself, which he declined, so we have filed a complaint with the Consumer Protection Agency and the Attorney General. So you have been warned. DO NOT ENTER THIS SHOP!!!!
Worst place ever. They have a dirty method of doing business. They let you know that you have received a good price for a product, but puts a much cheaper version in the plastic bag, They write however a receipt , which you have to sign, with the cheaper version, which you will not discover if you are not very observant. During this process another employee is trying to distract you with other products to a good price. I discovered the scam the day after and went back to the store to have a refund, which they denied. This store is certainly a scam, where the employees as well as managers are deliberetely cheating you.I don´t know how they can be allowed to be in the business.
Should have known better than to have walked into a place like this, but I was looking for a pair of binoculars I could use for theater and birdwatching. Saw a pair in the window I liked, but they used the old bait and switch technique to show me one by Olympus, that they then marked down substantially, though when I looked it up on Amazon, I found that their “reduced” price was still 8 times as much as it was selling for on Amazon! Obviously no point in trying to get my money back from these con artists from all the previous reviews I’ve read, but I wonder if I could try disputing the charge on my credit card?
Absolutly bad store. I paid 206$ for a Cam Charger, which I forgott in my country, and a Lens Cap. (The exactly same charger you can buy on amazon for 6.99$!)Their strategy is talking very fast to confuse people. If you return to the shop for explaining all of them are very very impolite and are getting angry. This would be your badest deal forever if you buy there something.DON‘T NEVER EVER GO TO THIS BAD BAD AND SILLY SILLY STORE!!!
Awesome service, I fixed 2 iPhones there for a low price, my screen was shattered and my phone was bent and they fixed it with no problem. These guys took good care of me. Very friendly and the technician is there at the store you can always go back to him if anything goes wrong.
DO NOT ENTER this shop. EVER. FOR ANYTHING. Do not just pop in here for a quick anything! If I could give this shop minus stars I would. The salesmen are extremely talented swindlers and liars and should be running courses in extreme high pressure selling and extortion techniques. These guys could sell refrigeration trucks to Eskimos. Read all the reviews here and decide which ones are real and which ones arent. They will lie repeatedly directly to your face. They are relentless. They will praise, complement and belittle you. They love your country. They have many great customers from your country who come here repeatedly because they get such a good deal. They will manage to sell you stuff that you dont want or need. They will tell you many factual truths that are outright lies. Do not ask for any advice here. It will only be false advice to benefit themselves. All their prices on the store labels are hugely inflated compared to MRRP. Then they reduce the prices in huge amounts to make you feel you are getting a reasonable deal. You arent! They may switch products and charge higher prices than agreed. They dont even give you a proper itemised receipt. They want you to sign a blank receipt. They dont tell you that they have a no returns policy. There is no NYC state statute consumer law to protect you.If you have shopped here and been defrauded, ripped off, swindled and scammed, DO NOT accept in on the chin. Fight back. Go directly to NYC Department of Consumer Affairs, downtown at 42 Broadway, who are incredibly helpful, with a detailed knowledge of how to fight back. I managed to obtain a full refund with the DCAs help. It was nonetheless stressful and time-wasting.Do yourself a huge favour and shop instead at B and H Camera and Video, who are excellent, very knowledgeable and fair, and they are only two blocks away at 34th and 9th! Or go to Audio 46 for headphones etc at 46th St near 6th Ave.These guys and other small camera electronic and luggage in this tourist-heavy area are all pretty dodgy outfits.AVOID!If you live nearby to NYC and have been swindled, you can launch a legal case using a Consumer Law Specialist Lawyer such as Brian Bromberg.
They will rip you off. Over priced, shady business. Open packages for products and they keep it the package. They give you a hard time to exchange too. I asked for a refund they say they can only exchange. Gave me a product but they tried to open it and keep the package. He made sure to give me the exchanged product with damaged packing purposely. And also he made sure I got the package WITHOUT the price tag that was on it. Extremely shady!!!
Came in to 34th Camera looking to buy a Nikon SLR camera, of which they were sold out of that day, but they were nice enough to order it for me, they even included a camera case free of charge! And when I came later on that week to pick it up they set it up for me, also gave me An over view of some the cameras new features! Now frankly speaking, I did find the same camera cheaper online afterwards, but you never know what youre getting now days from all those 3rd party vendors, especially those doing business from outside the U.S.Besides, I still think it was worth it, considering the kind of service I got from Lorenzo the salesman that helped me with my purchase, not to mention the case that I got as a gift!I think I will buy my next zoom lens from them again, as long they can offer me a compatible price!
Just went there this weekend. My phone died and I went to a few stores before coming here and other stores charging so much for a rapid cellphone charger. These other stores were highway robbery. I came to 34th St Camera & Computers they let me charge my phone so I can call my family because they were some where in Macys, but I also purchased a rapid charger for the fraction of the price these other stores were trying to charge me. Thank you guys for being my lifesaver. The sales people were helpful and friendly. I definitely would come back to purchase something else from them.
I call and ask if they have a specific laptop power supply. They say yes. I say Great, how much is it?. The salesperson says We dont give out any prices over the phone. How am I supposed to decide if it is worth my time to go down to the store and buy it vs. order it online and wait a few extra days? Idiots..
As tourists it is businesses such as this shop that leave you with a bad impression of USA. This shop sold a $20 battery for over $200 to an unsuspecting female family member who thought she was doing the right think. On returning to the shop to seek redress we were lied to and threatened by what I believe are rogue crooks. Under no circumstances enter this business as the people have no values what so ever. Reading through all the comments I realised this dishonest business has been operating in an underhanded manner for years. SHUT THEM DOWN.
This place is a complete rip off their con artists I am handicapped and saved up for a year to buy this camera and when I brought it to a different store after it broke after three days and he refused to give me a refund all he offered to fix it I brought it to a different store because he charge me to fix the camera I just purchased after telling me he would fix it cost for a year I brought the camera to another store and after they looked it up they found out told me that the camera with the serial number was actually 10 years old with a new case on it he told me the camera was only one year old Asmir then told me it was vital still and he would not help me I wasted $2000 in this place
The WORST shop, which I have ever visited in my life. All products are unbelievably overpriced, and all staff members are just liars. For example, the product I bought is more than 4 times higher than its standard price. All who put 5 stars are appanretely accomplices. AVOID!!!
Absolute rubbish. Bought a wide angle lens, it didnt fit my camera. He said he would order me an adaptor ring for the next morning. I went in the next morning, not available until 2pm, hung around thatdistrict for 3 hours went back at 2pm, he had the ring, then promptly tried to charge me 70 dollars for it? When I refused, he said fine, youll pay later. Trying to intimidate people is a joke. Luckily Im not easily intimidated. Avoid at all costs, absolute idiots.
SCAM ! this store is a big time scam. I went to buy go pro latest model, they hooked me up with go pro 1 for price 2 times over the market price. Do not fall for their words and their friendliness. Most of small electronic shops in NYC are scam. The only bitter experience of holiday in NYC. Do not shop here at all.
Rude. Have no idea of what they are selling. As soon as I went Inside the shopkeeper wanted to hand me the camera without giving out any specs for it with the price he declared as discounted. Dissatisfied with the lack of information I told him I wanted to know more. He took away the camera from my hand and kept it back in display. Now thats not how you treat a customer!!!
BUYER BEWARE.... Stay away from this store. They are overpriced and on the prowl get vulnerable consumers looking for bargains. They tried to sell me a $200 GoPro hero 3 white for price of the silver which cost $100 more. Stay away, these salesmen are practicing bad business ethic. Dont even step in the store
Unrealistic value, poor attitudeSo offering projector “with 70% discount” to “Amazon”, which is in fact only another dubious dealer with the only target to give false price tags. That device has poor technical data is not 2.998, neither 700, nor 300 USD.Really, go to anywhere else, but never here!
Reporting them to the BBB thieves!!!!! My phone died in the middle of time square I needed to text my family members as we needed to leave and I had no idea where they were. I was forced to buy an iWalk, which cost me $55 which I know doesnt cost more than $20 I had absolutely no choice as I walked around for a while and couldnt spot another store. The old man is a thief who think people buy his bs of what a bargain we are getting. Had I not been stranded in nyc I would of never ever stopped at this rip off store!!!
THE WORST EXPERIENCE I EVER HAD EVER IN MY LIFE ANYWHERE! PERIOD! THEY ARE NOT JUST THIEVES BUT ARE THE THE BIGGEST RACIST BASTARDS I HAVE EVER SEEN! I went in there asking for a camera to rent and it seemed to me like the little guy there didnt like it. Their reaction looked funny to me at first then it turned worse. They little guy event threatened me while I walked out. I WONDER WHY THEY DIDNT GET ARRESTED OR SUED ALREADY! STAY AWAY PEOPLE!
I have visited this place , I must say you should visit this store for Best Deals and Best Prices... I have purchased a Baby Monitor and staff over here is really helpful and explains you very well ! I would just say must go if you visit NYC.... Hard to find such stores in city...
Excellent customer service however managed to sell me a lens you can buy for under $100 dollars for nearly 4 times that very clever sales tricks and put a lot of pressure on you until you think you have got a bargain and then continue to upsell and practically bully you into buying make sure you research what you want before you buy wish I had read reviews first would not have even gone in
Watch a bunch of crooks please don’t buy anything there i got scammed into buying a lens poor quality and way over pricedmemory chip 4* what amazon have it formanager very rude and dismissive downer on our new york experience1star is way more than they deservebut that’s there business modelscam tourist and no scruples
Nothing has a price. When you ask questions you get very high prices that if you are not paying attention you end up paying more. When I say that you do not lower the price and bargain. I bought two phones and they were not new they were refurbished and even one was locked and I was asking for PIN to access. When I called to claim they told me it could not be true. They hurry you show you things fast and do everything possible so you can not check the product. They kept the bill but fortunately I noticed and went back to the store to claim and they gave it to me. Stay tuned because they make you sign the proof of the trouble card and when the other is talking to you. NOTHING RECOMMENDED. I WOULD NOT BUY THERE AGAIN
Very good scam.Attracts customers with well-known products at very attractive prices and spins junk 10 times the price. In the end we leave thinking we have made a deal but we have simply been cheated on BIG TIME.Go his way or know the value of the goods before returning.Be careful, they do not hesitate to consult fake ads with fake prices on Amazon in front of you to tie up the scam.Crooks. Great art.
VERY IMPORTANT. THEY ARE SCAMMERS. I bought a Transcendental CompacFlash 400x 32GB card, they indicated that the price was $ 41 and my surprise was when I checked in my bank that they had charged me $ 413. I went to claim and they told me that the price of the card was $ 413, I have not managed to recover the money in a friendly way and I have proceeded to file the corresponding complaint. DO NOT BUY IN THIS ESTABLISHMENT.
I do not recommend it, I went to look for an iPhone 11 and the price was higher. Then I went for 10 and they tell you that it is original but in fact it is repaired. They haggle you for the price if you dont buy. DO NOT TRUST - THEY ARE RE TRUCKS TO ME DO NOT DECEIVE ME I AM ARGENTINE
My wife was on the day 12/06/2017 at this store where they sold a product that costs around 20 dollars for $ 99.99 Yes, imagine that. But it was true I searched all the sites for the product VR2GO is around 20.dollars.I am undigondiguinado. How can they have done this? So.look well.before.buy at this store.
Bad experience, they make you believe that they are going to sell you the product you are looking for and since they do not put batteries, they change them for a cheaper one at a high price, very bad sellers except the brunette I think he is Brazilian, the others should not be there.

2022-06-13Be aware! The owner knows a lot and listen you what you want and match - good side ( if you are really careful )But later during my time there, when I had to pay he suddenly showed all kinds of “deals”. 32 GB memory card for 99$ DOLLARS - a really good one, according to him, is 12$ on Amazon. And gave me one hundred and something dollar binoculars and it was 40$ online and he said he gave me an extra “discount” but overall it was a rip off. My son found this shop and we needed things fast so I just went there without checking the online reviews. If you need to buy something urgently, be sure to go there early and think for enough time how much you will spend there, then check the prices online one by one really carefully there and show him so you don’t get fooled. Good luck, God bless - I bet God knows all and that is so not ok.

2019-02-25Great convenient store for all of your electronic needs in Midtown Manhattan. It has reasonable prices and superb customer service. Additionally they have a good selection of smartphones, accessories and cameras. The general manager, Mr. Charles is always very personable and professional.

2022-02-18These people are scammers. I exchanged a phone for one with a lesser price. The salesman refused to give me a refund. Then he had a worker ring up another receipt telling me that I owe him 50 dollars. I told the salesman I would call the better business bureau.....he asked me what could he do to fix it...he offered me everything but my $50 dollars. These people have no integrity. They are also liars.

2021-10-25Place is a serious rip off. They tried selling me an out dated item for four times the price. Then they kept lowering it as I tried leaving. Didnt realize the item I was purchasing was outdated and they do exchange only even on same day purchases. Just about the entire store sells things at some absurd premium. Save your money. They sold me a few double aa batteries at twice the price which honestly seems to be the most proportionately priced item in the store. I knew NYC was a bit pricy. But that was disgusting.

2021-11-29I had a great experience at this store recently. The staff welcomed me with hospitality and showed amazing costumer service. They provided me with the item I needed and also went above and beyond with their service. Would highly recommend!

2022-05-12Be aware of this place - always ask a receipts, because they don’t give it to you and will not return you money , while they promise to return you the money if something will not work.

2021-03-05Avoid at all cost. I think this is the first or perhaps second time in my life that I am leaving a review, but its absolutely necessary.Stopped in this afternoon and asked for a screen protector. Usually I purchase the same sort of non-brand item, and when I asked here, the employee went and got the right one for my device, and opened the package since I wanted a protector that is as thin as possible.I put my card down and asked him to apply the protector to the phone for me, which he did.I did not bother to ask the price of the item because this is the the same exact no-name screen protector, with the same exact packaging, that Ive purchased a few times in various shops in NYC for $10 or $15.After the employee charged my card, he came back with the receipt for a charge of $65! I assumed it was an error, so I pointed it out, but it was clear that there was no error.Ive made a complaint to Capital One, who will refund the money of course, and, out of principle, I will gladly take 10 minutes to make a complaint to Mastercard. This is a difficult time for retail, but there is no excuse for conduct like this.
