Getting here
This place is huge and first timers can get lost, Ive gotten lost a few times transferring trains or looking for the bus area. Panhandlers and homeless are here often and can get annoying easily. Police are around the station, In some areas more than others. Restrooms are in the station and at times fairly clean. MTA have a lot of employees who do not seem to be fluent in customer service. They walk around with the nastiest attitudes and omg do not need help or directions for one of their buses or around a route they deal with. Some of them can turn your happy day sad with the gloominess they carry around. The service not all that great to be lacking customer service, Pay must be great because misery clings to it happily but does not hesitate to show its true feelings. Be careful and use caution its a very large station with lots of people moving about, Know where youre going and check it out ahead of time if possible to avoid getting lost. Places to eat are in the station.
I recall when I was a teenager this place was scary and surrounded by x rated theatres, prostitutes and drug dealers, who often lurked inside. You couldnt use a bathroom in this place without dealing with runways asking for money to give you an empty stall. Now I can go to some nice stores, bakeries, or sit in a nice place, use the free WiFi and enjoy a coffee before I jump on a bus or hop on a train. The subways are still not the cleanest & the underground is old but as a native New Yorker I think its got character. I know millions of people have walked these very same steps, performers still find a home and play their music, artists still paint and draw and sell their wares, the over zealous religious people are still shoving pamphlets in my hand and the newsstands still await me. Therefore, with all its faults, I still enjoy it and I probably always will. The Port Authority Police are everywhere and they mean business but theyll but help you find your way if youre a bit lost in the shuffle, even though theyre outnumbered by the masses, Ive seen them help with serious things as well as the mundane and they do it with a smile. Its got a long way to go but its come a very long way from the way it was.
People call this place hell, but maybe it’s just the heaven part of hell. Terrible? Yes. But it still has some redeeming qualities and usually gets you where you need to go unless there’s a light drizzle, snow, or the wind changes direction.Today, I saw a woman doing voodoo on a trash can, a cross dresser shaving her fingertips over a sink in the ladies bathroom, and enjoyed entertainment from a Wayne Newton impersonator.Though people complain, I will miss these moments when I finally decide to move into the city just to avoid this place. It is here that I truly feel alive. And that is because I am dead inside.
This place connects you to rest of world via road, OK its a bit complicated for the first time visitor but its an amazing feat of architecture to make it so strong to be able to take such rush hour crowds & heavy bus traffic & then routing everyone-everything on time.Thoroughly impressive even after you get used to of it.
A couple of blocks from Times Square. I remember taking a bus here twice. Once after living in Scranton, Pennsylvania for a number of years. And the Bus Stopped. And you walk out of the Terminal into another World. The Lights and action. The other time I made the mistake of leaving NYC and going to Chicago. I hated it. It was a bitter cold unfriendly City. I saved enough money as quick as possible and took a Bus back Home. I remember the bus driver waking me up saying you cant sleep on here, your in New York. I got off the bus and literally kissed the ground. I never left the 5 Boroughs again. LOL
I understand that my familiarity with this station and its connections will not be the same for many unless theyve traveled through this station for, at minimum, a few weeks. This station is a bit confusing at first with A, C, & E at one end, 1, 2, & 3 at another section, 7 in its own floor and, finally, N, Q & R in the other end. If reading that previous statement confused you a bit, you may want to plan your route accordingly prior to leaving your residence - just remember the signs and colours of the bullet corresponding to the line in which you need to travel on.However, after the long walk and finding your way, this station is pretty convenient in getting you to where you need to go, considering how many lines it serves.
One of the busiest stations in NYC Subway with passageway to Times Square-42 St for 1/2/3/7/N/Q/R/W/42 St Shuttle. You can literally go anywhere in the city via Subway as there are many lines to take at this station. Its tedious to walk to the Uptown platform on A/C/E from the bus terminal but the platform is spacious and is one of the cleanest platforms Ive been on the subway.
This is the place I transfer over in the mornings/evenings between the A & E. Reasonably straight forward but always seems like I just miss the A and another one wont be by for typically 20 minutes. The Bus terminal side of things is a little grody, but ultimately functional. Close to Times Square as well, obviously.
Even though the bus terminal needs some improvement, kinda disgusting, and that buses are sometimes late my bus actually came early which was 6 minutes before the on time departure. But at least we get somewhere like times square or the subway. but they do need some improvement but overall its alright and it did open in the 50s so. But even though the bus terminal sucks and needs a lot of improvement it takes you anywhere.
While Port Authority connects commuters to where they have to go, it does so poorly. There are many parts of this Terminal that are poorly maintainedFrom solicitors asking for money from corner to corner to touching germ filled doors to open to the next section this place needs to be drained of the swamp like atmosphere. While I respect the MTA and what they do, there are so many ends that dont add up.Why is it that 8/10 MTA employees have a very pessimistic attitude? Basically its rare to bump into happy or positive MTA employees, its kind of like they dont like thier job and are not getting paid to work.Simply said MTA and thier employees are not the most positive employees, its feels dirty and unsafe walking through the terminals. The whole thing is all wrong. Its supposed to feel and be a safe trip from the second you enter the terminals until you get to your destination. But its not.I really dont understand why I should have to deal with panhandling and employment with attitude when taking transit... Why do I have to feel that the connection (1,2,3 from a,c,e hallway) walkway will give me respretory issues? And so will the train when the doors close...With the Billions that the MTA makes from its Customers, why is it so hard for them to get some ventilation in that hallway?Air purifiers in the terminals? Lmao is this a joke? How hard is it to take 2 seconds to care about your commuters who are paying customers! Why are we in 2017, and we have to put our hands on germ filled doors to get into Port A, which are held open by germ filled panhandling people... Get sensor doors that open without touching it!Get with the TIMES MTA! U allow so MANY Companies to buy Marketing and Ad Space in your terminals and trains (profits), but you cant get some doors that open on thier own? Cant get turnstiles that revolve on thier own? Cant get private security for the panhandling?Let me get this straight,You want me and Millions of Customers (Daily Communiters) to pay YOU (MTA) +YOU (MTA) make money off of the Ad space you sell to multimillion dollar companies andThen you dont want to spend it?The MTA acts like the make no money or profits and they cant spend it on thier terminals. Why does the MTA act like they make or have no money to fix up there terminals??? You make millions in profits! Put it to good use! Please dont try and use its your experience excuse! I travel here daily! More then 300 times a year and so do many people reading this review.I will update this review accordingly Happy Traveling to all.
Central place. Everything can be reached from here on foot or by bus. Final stop and entry to New Jersey at stop 51 in the left terminal escalator down right around the corner along the aisle. Everything is well signposted. Toilets are on the 1st floor in the right-hand terminal. There are also a few shops available. Time Square and many attractions are within walking distance. The metro also goes from here to the airport.
The building is very confusingly built and planned for tourists, but the friendly and courteous staff completely makes up for it. No matter who you asked, everyone helped us comprehensively and explained the way to us, helped with the purchase of tickets and also gave other information.
!!!ATTENTION!!!If you want to drive from the bus terminal to the American Dream Mall, you shouldnt blindly believe the signs distributed in the terminal with the number 355! This line only runs on weekends!! The tickets are sold at the machines on all days without this notice! Therefore, it is best to buy the bus tickets directly at one of the counters, so that you save yourself unnecessary money.Alternatively, there is also line 161, which, unlike line 355, does not stop directly at the mall.
Its a barbarity of station, bus lines to go everywhere, metro connection ... A small maze that you have to fix well to avoid losing yourself. Fortunately the posters help a lot. Impressed by how to keep decent toilets and always with paper, which we would like to see in Barcelona.
The place itself is amazing, full of shops with huge variety, there is a bakery inside that has delicious food and low price, but unfortunately I dont remember the name, its a French name in front of Jumba Juice, I will only give four stars because NYCs subway itself is very old, and as this station is huge and connects with other subway points, its horrible to walk through the subway tunnels in the summer, its a lot of people, poorly ventilated place (but that is referring to me when leaving Port Authority that connects to the subway lines, the bus part itself is quiet).
It is THE place where all buses coming and going from New Jersey arrive in NYC. It is a very large station and full of people. Some people who are serving are not in a very good mood to help a person who doesnt know how the machines work to get a ticket. Once you learn it is easier.I recommend that you buy your tickets through the app to make it easier to get on the bus. This makes it very easy and practical to get around on this transport.
Multi-storey bus station; central place. Everything to reach from here on foot or by bus. New Jersey (MetLife Stadium) is easy to reach by bus. Everything is super signposted. Smaller shops are also available. Time Square is not far on foot. The croissants and cocoa at Dunkin Donuts are highly recommended!
The Jersey Garden Outbound bus leaves this station. You have to buy a round trip ticket ($ 14 per person) and go up to platform 223 to catch Line 111 or 115. There are long queues but also the amount of buses is increased accordingly. Between half an hour and a bit of travel depends on traffic jams.

2022-04-26I love having to use two separate apps to find out how to get home. NJ Transit App to buy tickets and see bus routes, and the My Terminal app to see where the actual bus gate is. It would be too easy to put them together into one place. I enjoy the challenge of switching between apps.

2021-10-26I think it is safe to say I have been using the Port Authority Bus Terminal--PABT, for short--for at least two decades. It is a MAJOR transportation hub in Midtown Manhattan, NYC, and a major terminal for NJ Transit buses, as well as Greyhound. These last few months, I have noticed renovations in several areas in the Terminal, as well as a few new shops and eateries, too.

2018-03-09Big subway station on 8th ave for the A,C,E. The sides are offset. Downtown side run from 42 to 40th st., Uptown side runs from 42 to 44. Underground passage to the 7th Ave lines and times square runs under 41st. Usually some musician playing at the 8th Ave end of that tunnel.

2017-04-10Connecting you too different buses and trains seems like its best attribute. You can get lost in this underground maze of your not careful. If you plan on going here make sure you are prepared for it possibly getting busy and know where you go so you dont get lost. As for the employees, they tend to be kind at first but a few of them have poor customer service and self control. The food and drinks are costly and sometimes there isnt enough open seats while you wait for your bus/ride. Overall it serves its purpose but with little comfort, and efficiency.

2021-06-02Underneath the Port Authority Bus Terminal lies the 8th Avenue IND Lines (A, C, & E train). Its quite convenient if one uses the buses from this location.

2021-01-15The chicken was good, but I went there for the Mofongo. I was offered the Pernil Mofongo, which smelled delicious, but I found it to be dry. Also there were unidentified (to me) chunks in it. My body later reacted like I had eaten bread, which was not good for me.

2018-11-15This is the worst place to travel from ever! Multiple bus operators but only some are served by ticket machines. Really bad signage. Requires hidden knowlegde to know that the bus which says 20 on the front , and 9T on the side, is actually the 9W. Bad lighting. Once you are at the gate youve no idea where the bus will depart from. This place has been terrible for years!
