Over the years I have purchased much from 42nd street. My last experience was so bad I wont ever go back. Ordered an international canon lens. Next day was called and told that the lens I ordered would not work on my camera because Canon has different mounts for European lenses. This is a lie. Not realizing it was a lie, I agreed to pay $300 more but when they failed to ship with the expedited shipping I paid for, I canceled my order. They recalled the shipment before I received it. The pushy lying sales person said he had to check with his supervisor if they would refund the money, then he stopped answering my calls. I filed a dispute with Visa.
I spent several months looking for a DSLR camera & a company to deal with, I made my decision from reading reviews as I wasnt sure what to expect but the service from 42nd street photo was fantastic, before placing my order I rang just to have a chat with them so I could get a feel of their customer service & I couldnt fault them, my Canon 80D camera and accessories shipped the same day that I ordered them and they arrived 4 days later. Everything was in perfect, brand new, unopened condition and worked perfect. Am still learning many new capabilities with the camera and so far am very pleased with the results of a multitude of taken images. Couldnt be happier with 42nd street photo.
Fantastic Services,My order was a Canon EOS 5DS R camera and the turnaround was amazing. I received the camera within 4 days. I have taken some pictures to test resolution in a real world situation and Compared to the Rebel T7 I normally use and the 5DSR is amazing. I absolutely love the camera and the customer service was top notch and very nice and easy to deal with. Will definitely be using 42nd Street photo again. 😀
The Canon EF 16-35mm lens Arrived on time well packaged, and in perfect condition. I shoot weddings and other large social events and after talking with other photographers and getting their opinion on this lens, I couldn’t resist the special offer from 42nd street photo so I decided to purchase it for the speed over image stabilization. I’ve not regretted it so far and I would definitely recommend 42nd street photo to others seeking an excellent quality product
Stayed in a hotel opposite and have just started shooting film so this store was incredibly convenient to use. Had a roll of colour Kodak Gold 200 I had already shot and they did the development for this + scanning for $20. Perfectly happy with the negatives, though the scans are very low quality (in the kilobytes) and emailed. I didn’t really enquire about the quality of them before I ordered so not too much of a problem. See the colour photo attached (I personally think the colours are shifting more yellowy than they should be).I also purchased a roll of Ilford HP5 b+w whilst there for approx $13. Shot this around NYC and got it developed back in the U.K. - all good on this front!Also bought a little camera case for about $30 - overpriced but as in the middle of Manhattan didn’t overthink it too much.
Purchased a flawless camera from me through eBay, then made false claim that camera body was damaged. eBay forced me to accept return of camera after this shop damaged it somehow. I have hi-res photos that clearly show no damage that this buyer claimed was there.
I was looking forward to upgrade my DSLR and after doing a lot of research I decided to go ahead and grab the Canon EOS RP camera. THE recommended starter telescope!After picking out this telescope as the perfect price/options that I needed, I ordered this from 42nd PHOTO to ship to my beach condo in FL. 42nd Photo made this easy. The telescope arrived as promised, fully functional and ready to use. I would definitely do business with 42nd again.
They take advantage of lenses low on stock to sell you bundles with extra filters and unnecessary warranty. Scalpers. Travelled there for a lens showing “in stock”, but claimed only the “bundle” in available in store.
Call me old fashioned, but I do like buying things in shops with knowledgeable staff who make the whole experience more enjoyable (rather than a few clicks on you electronic device of choice) 42nd street photo didn’t disappoint. An extensive stock of equipment and very helpful staff. Will certainly return.PS don’t try to find it on 42nd street 😀
Me and my cousin found this store on or look for a bathroom and for us it was I hidden gem, I had been looking for so many stores that where selling a Vintage Film camera. Then we found this gem and we had a great time. Great service and pro staff, really friendly and so helpful. I went in there looking for a Vintage Film camera. The staff helped me find exactly what I was looking for and he even taught me how to use it and set the settings. Loved the experience and went out of that store with the biggest smile ever.
WARNING ! Must avoid the shop !The guy is a con man ! Here is what happen to us : we went there to buy a lens adapter but the guy fake it to test the camera that we bought else where, with a not working battery. He told us that the camera wasn’t working but he had the same camera at 250$, and he can rebuy ours for pieces at 40$. We said no, we was suspicious from this point… finally we left the shop and went to buy a battery at duane reade, end guess what ???? The camera was perfectly working !So he is a con man, someway he planned a trick to fool us and steal our working camera. Hope this review will help.
Tried to order a camera, was not noted on the product page that it was a European model. I was then charged $135 to cancel my order. I would have never purchased it if I knew it was not a US model. It shouldnt cost anything if my order was not completed. Will not shop here again. I definitely dont recommend.

These guys are scammers.Will tell you a price on their website. Then after purchase tell you that you bought a Eauropean model. Then tell you the domestic version is significantly higher than the actual regular price of the item. This store will advertise products on their website as “brand new”, hold your item hostage for a week while they “need to verify information” and when you finally talk to someone they claim that oh, it’s a display model NOT a brand new model as advertised. Apparently this is something they do often to other people if you look at BBB. Shady tactics, thank goodness I cancelled this order!
I got out without getting scr**ed. Carefully check neg reviews here and in the *other* rating service (rhymes with help) for the truth. I dont believe any of the few positive reviews are genuine.
I ordered and then they called saying the camera was an international version and I could get the U.S. version for $400 more. Its a bait-and-switch scam. Dont bother.
Loved the experience. Came to get Kodak photo plus chemistry for school history class and the salesman was super helpful and chill. Help me understand everything taught me some things and got me the best prices he could. A+ service
I got 35mm film developed here and were the only place open around the area over the weekend. I was sticker shocked just for negatives and prints, and up-charge on any changes (like matte, border, etc) but didnt know any better because I havent had film developed in years. After I received the prints, which were ok quality, I called around and found few places in the area that specialize in photography, do the same thing WITH digital exports for 2/3rd of the price here. You just have to go on a weekday to those places. Skip this place for printing if you can.They do have awesome gear and gadgets though, really competitively priced.
PhotographerI am very pleased with the service from 42nd Street Photoand such a great service from start to finish, I ordered a Nikon D850 in good condition and when I received it I was very so prized that it came in almost original condition with all the manuals and -battery-charger and more in the original Nikon box. Deceptive marketing. Had orderd a Canon 90d with 18-135 lense which they had listed for $1,479...the next day get an email to call them with additional info, and the sale person mentions at end of call it is a chineese model, he says it shows it on website, nothing listed on website that shows that. Quotes me a price $220 more for US model. Stick with B&H or Amazon, might be a few dollars more but feel better with a company that doesnt waste my time, and use deceptiive tactics to get a sale.
This is an online order review.They sell grey market merch as if it were legit. They are not authorised Nikon sellers, sell non USA editions as if they were USA.And when I cancelled my order because of my doubts they charged my card even after I spoke with a guy on the phone as well as sending an email.They will say anything over the phone. Assured me they could substitute a USA edition for 200 more dollars but there was no USA edition on the website, which didn’t actually say it was a non usa edition.I’m staying away from them from now on. I could give you more questionable things…I just wanted to alert others who might be enticed by the apparent availability of hard to find equipment (my reason for using them) or low prices. The equipment from non usa editions or non authorised sellers may be different and can’t be serviced by Nikon and Nikon boxes are unsealed so even if a undependable seller says it’s a us box who knows what’s inside. I am afraid I cannot trust 42nd st camera.B and H, Adorama, crutchfield, even green camera on Amazon, all are authorised Nikon dealers. I’m sticking with them.
42nd photo is our go to store for our electronics. Their service is first-class and are really helpful when research/buying anything. The employees are super helpful and resolve any doubts you have. For buying camera and accessories they have displayed in the back along with loads of photo and video gear. Id do business with them again.
Buyer beware, the web site is import prices so you cant really compare. And if you have pop up blockers off you dont know it. Worst customer service ever as i was confused to what i thought i was ordering and what i got. Just be extra careful if you use this company.
Beware of deceptive pricing! I ordered a Canon EOS 6D Mark II on their site for the listed price of $1,199.00. This seemed like a great deal, compared to other sites. I then received a call from their processing department to inform me that I had accidentally chosen the European model. This model supposedly did not include WiFi, GPS, or video (all of which were features clearly listed on the product page). It does not appear to be possible to even order a European model from their website. In order to receive a product with all of the listed features, I was told it would be $200 more. At the end of the day, the product price was similar to other sites. Just be aware that you likely will not get the deal you think you will.
This shop sells Kodak film for $25 per roll. B&H Adorama & others stock it for $16.
BEWARE!!! I ordered a $1200 setup that never shipped and they charged my card despite PayPal’s policy that cards will not be charged until the item has shipped. I tried contacting the company daily for OVER A WEEK by email and leaving voicemails because the operators would hang up on me or transfer me to voicemail. When I searched my order number on their website tracking Page it would say it did not exist. If you are willing to gamble and play games then maybe the low prices are worth the small POSSIBILITY of receiving what you ordered. It will certainly be in an untimely fashion if it even ever arrives.
The shopping experience was excellent. They had the best prices for my Nikon D7200, and I didnt get the salesman rush when I ordered my camera. I didnt get pressured to buy any other accessories that I didnt want or need.I ordered my Nikon on Thursday. The camera was delivered on Friday. A perfect transaction. No regrets. I was given a Nikon D750 and lens as a gift from 42nd Street photo. I cracked the SD Card slot cover. I first tried to get it repaired at my local camera stores, only to find out that Nikon would no longer authorize them to repair Nikon cameras. So I mailed my camera in for repair to Nikon. Nikon informed me that my camera was a “grey market” camera and they refused to repair it. When I called 42nd Street Photo to ask questions, they told me, “that camera is not worth repairing” and, “why would you want to repair it” and “why would you send it into Nikon”. So frustrating,. Avoid this company!
I purchased a Sigma 10-22mm wide angle lens for my Nikon D3200 and I absolutely love it. The lens shipped promptly and arrived fast, and was packaged very well to ensure no damage in the process. The 42nd St team called to follow up once I received my lens to make sure I was satisfied. All around awesome experience and very high quality products with very reasonable prices. The web site allowed me to find what I wanted very quickly (a Nikon D5600 body) at a very reasonable price, and with a reasonably priced extended warranty. My purchase was confirmed by email quickly and my camera arrived on the promised delivery date. Overall, a very smooth and satisfactory transaction. I was pleasantly surprised to receive a call from a customer service rep a year after my purchase, to check on my satisfaction with the camera (which Ive been very happy with). I was treated with great customer service. I ordered a wide angle Panasonic lens for my camera and received a call shortly after to let me know I had accidentally ordered a foreign version of the lens and that it would most likely not fit my camera. I was able to switch the order before they shipped it so that I wouldnt have to exchange my order and extend the time period to use my new lens. It takes exceptional customer care to pay attention to details like that!
I ordered online from out-of-state. They sent a used camera and extra items , payment for which they added to my finance account. I had to contact the NYAG and BBB to get resolution. I was within the 10 day limit return policy but they still tried to avoid it. PAY CLOSE ATTENTION TO THEIR RETURN POLICY! In my opinion, 10 days is not enough for a credible serious business to provide online ethical customer service.
I ordered my camera from here a year ago and am extremely satisfied with my purchase. Not only was it cheaper than anywhere else, but delivery on it was extremely fast. Order online a lens and then I had to call to learn that it was not available and offered a replacement that cost me $300 more (without my prior consent). People were very rude over the phone not trying to find a solution. Couldn’t even return as they charge 20% restocking fees!!!!

I purchased a Tamron 70-200 mm telephoto lens and some accessories from 42nd street, and the customer service was outstanding. I ordered a replacement lens for my Canon 70D camera online from 42nd Street Photo. Shortly after placing the order, I received a call from them making sure that I had purchased the correct lens for my camera. The person I spoke with was extremely helpful and gave me good advice about which lens would be best for my needs and camera. I received the lens a few days later and played with it for several hours today. I am happy to say that the lens is amazing and my photos look great. I ordered a Canon EF-S 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 Image Stabilizer Lens from here. I was really surprised to see the promotional benefits as well great customer service. I received regular updates about my order about shipment date. They also gave me the best deal price wise by a few hundred dollars compared to other places. Ordered a camera that was out of stock. I called to switch it out to one that was in stock. The guy on the phone was completely rude. He told me the camera was a different price then on the website (like 300 more). I did tell him I was looking at the website when he rudely told me because of a different currency. He is in New York... I’m in WA state... WHAT. He was extremely rude. Short answers and really wasn’t interested in switching my order or even re ordering it with me on the phone. Will not be using them, I cancelled my back ordered order.
I ordered a Fuji Lens for my new X-T1 and 42nd St Photo was less expensive than most competitors by a few hundred dollars. I knew the particular lens I was ordering was a grey market lens, and they offered to sell me a US market lens, but I knew what i was buying and was comfortable buying the grey market version. They promptly shipped the lens and everything was in working order and Ive been very satisfied with my experience.

Called customer support, they upgraded shipping for free to UPS second day. Received camera on time. Best prices on the net, this is why competitors hate them. This was the Best Buy on the net. Cam packaged perfectly. VERY attentive customer service--even received a call before the gift shipped to make sure all was well. The Rep noted that for my kids needs a different lens would serve him better. He marked it down to his cost and I got the better lens. Cool company--very direct, very NY and no nonsense. The Customer service was extraordinary. I ordered a camera NIKON P900 that was considerably lower priced than Id seen anywhere else. A few days later I received a call to ask if I knew that I had ordered an international version, hence no US warranty. do I till need it or not. I said no, cancel the order. The person then offered me a significant discount on the US version to keep me as a customer. I was very impressed that they reached out to me in the first place .

DANGER! This company has hidden scam practices, very careful, it sells used items like new and if you want to return them they charge you 20% of the total. The shipment is set in 6 days and can take weeks without preventing it even though it has already been charged to your card
Ordered a new Nikon D750, 42nd Street was way cheaper in price for the same camera anywhere else. They have the fastest standard shipping that I think Ive ever seen, had the camera in just a couple of days. I have never had the luxury of browsing in their NY City store, but know it is also amazing. So, when it comes time to make a big camera purchase I know they will offer speedy shipping and stand behind their products. Their prices were competitive and they offer free shipping. So I was looking to upgrade from my standard 18-55mm kit lens and all the reviews I read about the Sigma 17-50mm were positive and said it was the best upgrade so I purchased the lens. I Ordered a new Canon T5i with 42nd Street Photo because of their great reviews and customer satisfaction, but after experiencing it for myself I am completely blown away!!! Not only did an associate call me personally before shipping my camera out but he made sure that it would be delivered correctly checking if I needed a signature to make sure it got to me. Honestly when they called I flashed back to another time I ordered a camera from a different online company where I actually actually was coned (sadly by someone with a similar accent) so I was basically doing what they asked to avoid that again.I am sorry for feeling that way now.I received the camera and its new.I went on Canons website and the cameras serial number registered and I have a full 1 year warranty with canon now.All in all, the call was the biggest thing that bothered me.

If there is an option, I wont even give them any stars!! I was searching for Nikon D850 3 months ago and I have been purchasing all camera gears from Adorama and B&H for years and no complains at all. However, both websites had the model on back-order. Then I came across this website saying it is in stock. In the description, it says it includes one-year warranty which is standard. However, a couple of days later, the sales called and told me it wont include any warranty. I was very surprised so I searched on line again by just typing the Nikon D850 and it clearly stated that the package would include the one-year warranty. The sneaky sale person told me after consulting with his manager, there were two items and he told me to type in the item # instead of Nikon D850, the posting showed no warranty included. He said they would offer 5-year warranty at a discount. Then he also mentioned the battery come in the package wont last long since it was such a high performance camera and offered to buy extra battery. Also he recommended a super expensive memory card and after I saw the review on Amazon, I called back within 10 mins to cancel the order, he said the order was being processed and couldnt be canceled. The memory card gave me an error from the start and I had to get other models which cost significantly less.A couple of days ago, someone from the store called me asking for feedback. I told him the sales was deceiving and I was not happy with the experience. He just conveniently dropped the call.I will never and ever buy anything from this store. And definitely wont recommend it to anyone.
Great Service! This was my second significant purchase from 42nd Street Photo. They consistently have lower prices than the others but they go the extra mile. I recently purchased a Nikon Coolpix P-1000 from them on line. The next day I got a call from them making sure that I understood that in order to capture 4K video, I needed a very fast memory card and recommended a card that would do the job. The service employee was rude and impatient. Even got frustrated and banged his own computer. There website sells the product for a good price but in the store, they are ridiculously expensive. They try to sell me filters for lens telling me it was necessary when I just wanted the camera. Store price for this camera was over 1000 dollars and the website price was 629.00. (With a 18-55 lens). I ended up buying just the body and memory card for 950.. Because the service guy said he gave me a discount. These kinds of people that work in the store are just horrible people, they are making the buyer to look like a fool. Your better off ordering on Amazon for a very cheap price. After I started to notice that he was ripping me off, the service guy was shaking and couldnt even look at me. I hope one day these punks get what they deserve. I recommend NOT TO BUY HERE.

Im honestly not used to such good personal service from an online vendor, or any vendor for that matter. I purchased a Canon S95 and it is absolutely amazing for a point and shoot. I recently ordered a telephoto lens from 42nd street. The price was great and it arrived well within the time frame I expected. Since I had a new lens, i felt I should upgrade to a Nikon D5500. Michael was willing to work with me on the package, so, I received not only the D5500 for a fair price but also had a UV filter included.
I bought the a camera through their site for significantly less than any other site. A Rep, Jack, called to confirm my order. Either he wasnt knowledgable or was lying - told me that I only had a 30 day warranty unless I purchased theirs. Hard sell which I fell for and purchased but after confirming that it was untrue once I was able to get to a computer I emailed to cancel. I received a call back but sent another email specifically requesting a refund on the warranty. I was refunded the warranty price a few hours later and received a very courteous email from a manager.I was still a little concerned because of a review that mentioned a missing warranty card. Mine didnt have a card but has the limited warranty information. I am guessing because everything is done online now. I had no problems registering the camera with Sony using the serial number on the camera box. Number on camera matched box. Very happy with price and service. Make sure that you are near a computer when on the phone with sales and enjoy excellent prices and service otherwise.

Suggested by my friend who told me that the lens I wanted to buy was about $50 cheaper than the best price at Amazon. After I placed the order, its sales called me and made some suggestion on the accessories I could buy and shipped me the accessories better than what listed on the page without asking me paying the extra. While I receive the hood in a wrong model, they reshipped the correct one immediately. Very good services that I recommend.
I ordered a 70 300 mm canon lens and filters to fit lens. I could not afford to order the higher up lens. I seen this lens in Best buy and ended up buying from 42nd street photo a $100 dollars cheaper. The customer service was great. The lens was well worth the price.
I have had very good success when ordering from 42nd Street Photo. I had placed an order for a Canon shutter control cable and they shipped the wrong one. I requested the correct cable and I was surprised to receive a phone call form their customer service apologizing for the cable and they told me the correct cable would be sent out ASAP. It was, I received it within in a few days and it worked. I would highly recommend this store for your photo needs. I will use them again based upon my experiences.
I was a little disappointed in the online experience, but to be fair, customer service handled it well and got me what I wanted at a very reasonable price. I was looking for a Nikon D5500 Body Only. What I didnt realize was that the one shown on the website was an International version. Thankfully, Michael with customer service called me back within 30 minutes of placing the order to confirm that with me. Yes, the US retail version cost me more, but they were willing to give me a credit and upgraded my additional battery for no extra charge. Still a better deal than every other reputable online store.This is the second DSLR Ive bought from 42nd and will certainly come back again when this one eventually wears out. If youre 100% certain of what youre getting from the website then go ahead and order that way. Otherwise just call them. Youll end up talking to an actual human and make sure theres no confusion.In the end, great merchandise, delivered quickly, decent customer service.
My first DSLR camera purchase excitement was ruined. They have no respect for customer after item is purchased. The guy working there got so angry when I said to cancel my order even though item was not shipped. He told me to return it when I get it in the mail. When I got the item and wanted to return it, he said there will 20% restocking fee. Really? There is no where on the website it says 20% restocking fee. Another scam theyre doing is putting international item without saying international item on the website. So you think you got a great deal. Theyll call you after saying that the item you purchased is international and will be different format, plug etc..., in reality there is not much different. He told me to pay more and get USA, Canada version. So I ended up paying same amount as I would to other stores such as B&H, best buy etc... at least those stores wont charge you 20% restocking fee and be respectful...Im not even sure I actually got USA and Canada version since theyre not authorized canon dealer. My box didnt look original and the manual looked much different than what I would get from USA and Canada version. Luckily I was able to sign up for canon warranty, I hope warranty works when I need it.Also, there are bunch of fake good reviews here. That guy even told that they have like some 400 people working in call center that can write fake reviews, if I write my 1 bad review. I took his name out because Im sure hes got bills to pay.

Very happy with my experience. Bought a Canon 5D Mark III as an open box item. Its was drastically cheaper by selling it without the kit zoom (24-100mm L f/4), but using the same box. Other than that it was a fantastic price fully covered under the US warranty and little to no clicks. All in all a fantastic deal. One annoyance, they like to call you after you purchase to upsell, annoying but in the end it was a new camera that was cheaper than a used version on eBay.

As I was comparing 2 cameras I was able to select that one that met all of my needs. It was the less expensive one which saved me some money. Ordered a camera earlier this month and paid for USPS Express shipping which was $38. Received a call stating that the Sony A6400 wasnt in stock. Salesman tried to upsell me to a Sony A6500. He stated that he thinks the A6400 is being discontinued. Typical shady salesman. I them receive the camera a week later through UPS Ground which is free on there website. Called back and another shady sales rep stated that both shippings are the some. Not true at all. Was transferred to a supervisor who never returned my call but did refund me my $38. A week later i receive the camera which i purchased as a kit. The actual kit was delivered however it was in another kit lense box. I called again and left a voicemail and still havent received a call back.

Wow - I was super-impressed by the great personal service from Robert, who walked me through the pros and cons of the lens I ended up ordering (Nikon 28-300mm f/3.5 -5.6G lens) and gave me some great tips to be sure I was ordering the most appropriate product. He was extremely knowledgeable and asked the right questions about how I was planning to use to lens with my new dslr camera. Unethical and underhanded establishment based on my last two contacts with them. In both cases, they sent an email asking me to call as they needed additional information to process my order. It was an attempt to upsell me in both cases. Most recent was two days ago and when I called them out on it and told them to ship the item that I ordered. I then notified NYC BBB. 42nd Street response was a flat lie telling the BBB they contacted me to provide a reduced discount for similar product - Did not happen. Checked status of my order today and noted they cancelled the order. Stay away from this place

I could not find a replacement camera anywhere at a reasonable price. 42nd St was some $120 cheaper than anywhere else I looked and had free shipping! The camera is brand new and arrived quickly. After I purchased the camera I got a personal phone call from a sales associate checking on my purchase. He did tell me about the other things I could purchase for the camera like a fast SD card or a longer lasting battery. I explained that I had already had the camera so I had everything I needed. I however had an incident with an employee over the phone when I was purchasing a new camera and lens, he told me “I was clueless and had no idea what I was doing” when it came to buying my camera. After hanging up the phone crying and very frustrated, I called back and asked to speak to his manager where they quickly made things right which I appreciated. On the other hand the equipment I bought was in great shape and I’m verh happy with my purchase. I think I’ll be giving them a second shot.
I recently ordered a new Canon DSLR from 42nd Street Photo that was selling at a price almost $250 less than the list price at all authorized Canon retailers. It wasnt until after I had placed the order that I realized it was probably a grey market or international version that would not have a valid US warranty. They did try calling me at home a couple days in a row but I was unable to return their call. Fortunately, they did respond to my emails and I asked to cancel the order, which they did without any problem. My reason for not rating them higher was the fact that they failed to disclose that the camera was not a US version. I suspect most grey market cameras work just fine, but I prefer the US version because I belong to Canon Professional Services and have my cameras cleaned by them at least once a year.
I purchased a Canon LP-E5 Battery Pack for my Canon T1I camera. I was very pleased with the speed of delivery. My battery got here even before the promised date. Im also very happy with the quality of my battery. My old canon battery still works very well after 5 years of every day photo shooting, but I wanted to have an extra one and I know this new one will do just the same. Im a happy customer!
Sales tactics are incredibly sleezy. I purchased a very expensive Nikon lens for a Christmas present. They quickly charged my credit card (same day as order). Several days later, I received a call to try and up sell me on all kinds of accessories and a warranty. I declined as I had spent my whole budget on the lens itself. The guy said ok, well ship your lens out right away and you should receive it in a couple of days. Great (as Christmas was a week away). No lens arrived. Two days before Christmas, I got another call to tell me the lens I wanted wasnt available (and wouldnt be for 6-8 weeks). He then offered to break up a kit so he could ship me the lens. Sounds good? NOT, as the lens would not be $250 more than the one I ordered. Didnt they already know this when they originally called, I asked. Of course they did and the whole process was designed to make me buy more accessories (which are clearly higher margin for them) or something more expensive. So unprofessional and slimy. I was so disgusted, I asked him to cancel my order immediately. At the point, almost 2 weeks had gone by since they charged my credit card so they had use of my money for a few weeks. You guessed it, the credit took another week to process. Amazing how fast they were at charging my card and how slow or non-existent they were on giving me something for my money or a refund. I would NEVER shop here again.
I shopped around for an upgrade to my Canon XS and finally decided to get the T4i. After wards was the hardest part to find someone who carried the body only at a reasonable price. I came across 42nd Street Photo through Google and immediately found the body at a great price. The order was quickly placed, received my emails quick with all my order information. The next day I received a call to confirm my shipping method (first time anyone ever did) and also to make sure I had all the necessary accessories since I was buying the package with no lens or SD card. Once the rep realized I had all I needed they finalized my order which was shipped out the same day. I received my camera and I am so happy I did purchase from 42nd Street Photo and will most likely purchase from them again.
This is my first time to buy a camera from 42nd street Photo. The purchase experience actually is better than what I expect. The free shipping and no tax are very good for online buyer.The price is very competitive and their service is quick and the ordered camera is good as expect, not an used or return product like some online store which offers very low price.I definitely will come back and buy more stuff from them.
The Nikon camera I ordered came as advertised and as I had expected. The price was equal to the best I could find. After the order was placed I received a phone call to ask whether or not I wanted a signature required on delivery. Once the camera shipped it arrived the next day. Overall this was a positive experience and I would not hesitate to buy from 42 St Photo in the future.
I found these folks while price-shopping for a specific telephoto lens for my wifes Nikon camera. I ordered a Sony RX100 for $75 less than most other stores. A day later, I received a phone call to verify my information and discuss any accessory options before it was shipped out. The camera was on my doorstep only 2 days after placing the order. It was a very smooth purchase and now I cant wait to use my new camera.
After reading Consumer Reports review of best point and shoot cameras I spent a fair amount of time looking for the best deal on a Cannon G1X Mark II. 42Photo was hands down the best deal. Im one of the guys that reads other reviews but I NEVER do reviews myself --- after my experience with 42nd Street, I feel compelled. I bought my first mail-order camera from them over 30 years ago, and have not bought anything from them since.I wanted to upgrade to a Canon 80D, and a new higher quality zoom lens (I am not a professional) I shopped around and they had the VERY BEST price by far (in fact, thought it a mistake)! Remembering them from so long ago, thought Id take a chance.Placed my order on a Sunday evening, mid-Monday morning (next day) I got a call. The representative was professional, knowledgeable, and just wanted to confirm the order. There was not effort to upsell me, and they didnt try to push me to by more. He did make me aware of an extended warranty option but wasnt pushy --- just information to share. Confirmed shipping directions, and the call lasted just a few minutes.The camera and lens arrived well packaged and protected, in perfect shape, new in boxes and some two months later am thrilled with the service and the camera --- LOVE it!Way to go 42nd Street --- so much fun to think about the great memory as a high schooler unboxing with my first 35mm camera --- and then to have the same feeling all over again over 30 years later!
BUYER BEWARE!!!! You should avoid making a purchase here. I purchased a new Nikon D610 body only which was shipped and received on time to be fair. I needed to make a return of the camera which was never removed from the box three days after receiving it. I called to confirm procedure for a safe return and was told there was a 30% restocking fee, which was never brought up upon the initial purchase. Let us remember, the camera was NEVER REMOVED FROM THE BOX! I tried to ask for a manager and the call was rotated around a few people and no manager was in the store. This is a large store and someone should be in charge. This went on for a few days. When this company makes the sale and receives your money, you are on your own. B&H Photo should be your store of choice, as I found out over time.
I was looking for an intermediate priced lens for my Canon camera to take on a once in a life time trip to Yellowstone. Captured some great wildlife pics there. After talking to the associates at 42 Street Photo I went with the Tamron 150-600. Since then I have done and will definitely continue to do business with them. Expect excellent service from them.
Very professional service! I ordered a Sigma fisheye lens for $900 and got an extended warranty for the same price as their competitors. After placing my order online, I was called by one of their associates to confirm my order and go over the options for the lens to ensure I had the correct camera to utilize it. He even verified all the information to ensure the lens would be sent to the correct address and insisted I do a signature for the delivery due to the price of the lens. Its misleading that this camera shop has such positive reviews. After ordering a camera online for $100 less than it was priced anywhere else, I got a phone call from Peter, a sales rep at the store. Told me I had ordered the Japanese version of the camera and said the US version would be $100 more. I specifically said no thanks i cannot afford to spend the extra just send me the Japanese version and i will try to find a work around to change the software language. he said no dont worry about it, I WILL TAKE CARE OF IT to me that seemed like a genuine offering. When i received the camera i was happy to see USA on the box and everything was in English, then I saw my receipt with the full price printed on it! i check my credit card statement and they had billed me the original amount and then ADDED an additional charge of $100 a few days later. THIS IS NOT TAKING CARE OF IT.Not only that but i went back to their site to try to find ANYTHING that said the camera i ordered was a Japanese version..there was only ONE option for this camera on the site, one price, one description. Literally just a scam to get you to buy from them because its a good deal, but charge you the regular price anyway. If i wanted to pay that price i would have went to B&H....duh.Thank god my credit card company was diligent in fighting this for me and I was able to remove the additional fee and keep the camera i received. Buyer beware and shame on the seller.
My dad was really excited to find the camera body he wanted at a price he was OK with. Ordering was simple and hassle-free. Customer service was extraordinary. I ordered a camera that was considerably lower priced than Id seen anywhere else. A few days later I received a call to ask if I knew that I had ordered an international version, hence no US warranty...did I want still to order it. I said no, cancel the order. The person then offered me a significant discount on the US version to keep me as a customer. I was very impressed that they reached out to me in the first place and that they bent over backwards to make it right. That cemented my loyalty.
I purchased a Canon XF105 for an upcoming documentary shoot and was very pleased with my experience with 42nd St. Photo. The prices are the best out there and the service is unmatched. I got exactly what I asked for, and even after taking two months or more to make up my mind, the deal I initially worked out was still solid. The price was significantly lower than other NYC camera venues in the area, including B&H, for my purchase of a Canon Mark IV DSLR camera and upgraded Canon on-camera flash unit.; both thru US distribution, not international or gray market. Im very happy with my experience at 42nd St. Photo and would not hesitate to shop with them again.
They were very prompt with my order, which was awesome because I was excited to start using my new camera! They also called and double checked with me about which model of the camera I wanted to buy (I had accidentally bought the international version which was not what I actually wanted), so their phone call double checking with me was super helpful because if they hadnt called, I wouldve had to ship it back. I definitely got scammed here today. I bought 3 potra 400 35mm film and 2 cinestill 800t 35mm films and my total was $103.38x My total should have been $85 AT most. I think because I told the guy I was new to film, just trying to make conversation, he took advantage of me. Definitely told my photographer friends to not shop here instantly.

Got my Nikon D5300 from 42nd st after nearly losing my shirt with a greenmarket item. They had the lowest price that I could find (for a proper US warranted camera.) Camera arrived exactly as advertised, with US manual and menus, etc. Very fast delivery. Fortunately I didnt need to do any sort of return or exchange, so I cant comment on that. But my experience was 100% positive and I wouldnt hesitate to order from them again.

42nd Street Photo recently sold me a high end Sony point and shoot. Because it was an expensive item, I scoured the web for prices and 42nd Street had the best. The purchase of a DSLR camera was a big decision for me. I have been away from photography for many years. The staff was exceptional in helping me make decisions on equipment. I dealt with three different people and all were amazingly friendly, accommodating and professional.

I did not visit the store (yet) and I have only experience with the online order. Best price for the camera I wanted. Ordered Sunday and received it Thursday. I had expected a bit faster shipping as I paid for the expedited 3 day shipping. Should not have spend money on this as the camera was send with UPS ground anyways, and in our area this means pretty much next or second day from NYC. Got also a call if I needed anything else, like SD cards, but I am all set with them already.Would I buy from them again? Yes, I would, just would take the free shipping option this time....Hope to stop by this weekend when I go to the city.

My husband and I ordered a new Nikon D5100 camera from 42Photo, it just arrived today.I had an overall positive experience with my purchase. I can attest that 24 hours after ordering my camera, I got a call from them asking if a signature was required for delivery. Honestly, I think they do that so they get you on the phone and try to sell you more. Robert tried his hardest to sell me a $149.99 memory card instead of the $39.99 one I bought from Best Buy. He was adamant that I needed this card for all of the features on the camera to work. After calling Nikon and looking on their website, they confirmed that the $39.99 SanDisc memory card that I ordered elsewhere was more than sufficient. I did not appreciate the upsell. I was also told my camera would ship by 1/16 but it did not ship until the afternoon of 1/17.Even with the attempted upsell and the slightly late ship date, my camera arrived today packaged well and in new condition. I am thrilled with the camera and I would buy from this site again.

Ordered a lens back cover and received it in 2 days. Fastest shipping ever. The lens cover is actually original canon cover and fists just perfect. I have bad experience buying products from other sellers, but 42nd street photo has always delivered a great service to me. Last time when i bought my 5d mark ii, 42nd street photo gave me a free upgrade to 5 year warranty which is great. Though, my camera is working perfectly.42nd street photo, has the best service and the best prices than any other sellers.

2022-03-21After I placed my order I had a phone call to confirm the order the next morning and the Sigma 150-600mm lens was delivered the next day. Simple, quick and efficient. My first big day to test the lens was at the Brooklyn Bridge and the pictures I collected are amazing. Mounted on a Nikon D850 with a monopod the images were sharp and Since then I have shot some wildlife photos with brilliant results. Couldnt be happier. no complaints whatsoever.

2022-04-11Terrible experience with this less than reputable retailer. Ordered a Tamron 18-400mm lens on 3/31/22. Advertised price was $599, and that was the only lens choice available for that make and model on their site. Shortly thereafter received a telephone call from a store rep who used bait and switch technique to increase the price. Said that I had ordered International version of this lens and that it had plastic mount (which is untrue) and that it had NO warranty (which is also untrue since they all carry 6 year limited warranty for new lens). Since I had no time to research I reluctantly agreed to what appears to be out and out lies regarding their product and price. They added an in-store extended warranty to the product and increased the price to $699! Also indicated they would send revised customer order prior to shipping, which was never received. Plus, they asked if I would desire customer signature required for UPS delivery, which I did, but that was never on the shipping order and the lens was left on the front porch.I tried several times to reach them via email with no response, attempting to cancel order prior to shipping. They went ahead and shipped anyway and I received the lens on 4/3/22. Box has NOT been opened since it is a birthday gift for household member, so unsure of condition of lens or what was included in box. Reached back out after receipt to request return and was provided a return authorization but that carried a 20% restocking fee which would ultimately negate any original savings.Due to the poor customer service and less than transparent sales tactic I was just seeking to have the extended warranty charge removed and let the matter go, even though I will never purchase from them again and strongly recommend others heed this warning! They have not responded to my requests.

I was a little apprehensive about ordering from them but now I’ve no regrets. The camera is fantastic and I am very pleased with the pictures I have taken so far. Despite ordering during the weekend my Canon EF 100mm lens was delivered earlier than anticipated and I got clear emails for every step of the way during the delivery. I am very impressed by the quality of the images that Ive captured, right out of the box and I would definitely recommend 42nd street photo to a friend.
