We really liked this place, specially because we were able to eat with our dogs under the table. The waitress was super friendly and attentive. The food didnt take too long to be on the table. The only bad thing was that I ordered a cheeseburger that had egg and sausage (cant remember the name) but I got a regular cheeseburger and due to a problem we had at that moment, we didnt have the time to tell the waitress about the mistake. Besides that this I really recommend this place.
Our server was so nice and knowledgeable! He even knew what the best pairings of the burgers were with the best fries. We enjoyed all our appetizers: spinach & artichoke dip, buffalo cauliflower bites, and onion ring tower. Everything came out nice and hot. Also try the rum swizzle punch!
Great food, nice people, and quite environment. The first day we arrived in NY they save us from starving as noting else was open. We came back few days later becuse we appreciated their food and service. If you are close by and you want a burger, you may want to consider them as valuable option.
A good joint for burgers. I wish they had a little more variety, and for the price, they missed the mark by not giving us fries with the burger. The service was very slow on a Saturday Evening. The Guac had absolutely no flavor, and was a big miss. They should just stick to burgers and shakes. That being said, great shakes, and good ingredients for the burger.
Not a great value for money - burgers come without any sides, fries etc. So youre paying $17-18 for .... Just the burger. If it was a crafted artisanal amazing patty that would be one thing. But it was rather mediocre in my opinion. Service was good and they have plenty of seating - their spicy bloody mary is great - but I dont think Ill be back 🤷♀️
I have been going to 5 Napkin Burger for years. I moved to Boston 3 years ago and recently visited NY. I ran to 5 Napkin fire Sushi and a burger to find that the menu had changed (no longer carrying Sushi) and was extremely disappointed in the service, cleanliness and overall ambiance of an establishment that I loved to frequent. Sad to say that it is off off my list of restaurants to frequent and suggest. Please take a look at your systems and menu selections and get back to basics... those things that made you a strong hospitality candidate. If youve seen your sales drop off at all, reply to me and ask me why, Ill give you the details. Thank you.
Was in New York City for a getaway with my husband . We thought we try 5 Napkins as the it was close to where we were located and when we glanced in the food looked amazing .We both ordered the Chicken and waffles … let me share .. that choice did not disappoint ..Enjoy!!
I sat at the bar for happy hour on a Monday night, it wasn’t crowded. The bartender was nice but dry. The drinks she made were very good. I ordered a slider and wings off the happy hour menu and they were really were better than I expected. The only reason I didn’t give 5 stars is because the glasses at the bar or at least the ones I received, weren’t thoroughly cleaned. I could feel texture outside the glass. It was disgusting. Which really reflects on the bartender not the establishment as a whole.
8/1/2019: The ingredients werent fresh, the service was great, but the sink had black mold growing in the poorly lit mens restroom down stairs. For an upper west side establishment I expected fresh lettuce on the burger, an assortment of condiments for the burger, and I was highly dissatisfied with what I received.
We ordered the “5 Napkin Burger” and it was just delicious. The 10 oz. all natural beef tasted amazing! We got it cooked rare and I’m telling you, that’s how you should get it! The caramelized onions matched extremely well with the rosemary - garlic aioli which made the whole experience even better. The onion rings were crunchy on the outside but soft on the inside which was terrific. It came in a silver tin which helped the fried onions stay warm so we could finish all of them in their best condition which was spectacular too! There’s a 2-for-1 mimosa on the drinks menu so anyone who visits before 4pm regardless or weekend or not, that would be a good option. It’s just for $12.
I heard a lot of good things about their burgers, so I decided to try.Ordered the classic burger with fries, which were both OK, but nothing special. The glass of red wine, a merlot, was good for the price.Service was quick and attentioned.Nice terrass on Broadway, face to AMC 84th theater.
I was anticipating the moment I could eat my burger and lo and behold, THERE WAS NO BUN. I got a bottom bun, but IT WAS MISSING THE TOP BUN! The lady at the bar however was very nice and gave great service while I was waiting for my order. Its not their fault at all. Just to be clear, the kitchen made a mistake that made me leave such a bad review, it has nothing to do with the service. PLEASE, just double check to see if youre sending out complete orders, because even when my burger bun supposedly gets delivered, my food will be cold.
They have gluten free options which is great. Although not gluten intolerant I avoid as much consumption as possible. Ask about all possible gluten contamination though because the Turkey and veggie burgers contain bread crumbs. Also they coat the fries with something. I had to specifically request it to be gluten free. The food was great though and server was very knowledgeable
Hit and miss. Have been here 3 times. First 2 times, service and burgers were excellent. Fried chicken burger is what i come here for. Third time, the chicken burger looked like it had been dragged behind a car. Thin as paper and fried to within an inch of it being sheet metal.Consistency needs to be key as theres a million places doing burgers so up your game!
My boyfriend and I used to love going there. Until around fall of 2021. Some of the staff changed, and there is now a new hostess (white girl with curly hair). She is very rude. She seems to hate when we come in. We also noticed how much slower service has become, some things are usually missing from our order. And a lot of the staff seems to just be over working there. Pretty disappointed by this, this was really are favorite place.
The food is very tasty. We has thier 5 Napkin Burger, which was Made how we asked it (medium well), and Asian Salad. The burger was big and juicy, the onion and cheese made it special sweeth salty and very tasty. The bun too! We ordered some fries too, crispy and warm. Yummy! Why only 4 stars? The service was good but a little slow, and I wish the waiter would smile once. But the wired part was the frying smoke! Smells like old dinner in the rush hour despite the high ceiling and space. Please improve ventilation!
Absolutely excellent service. Came here as an outing for a community center with people with developmental disabilities. There were A LOT of us, and each person was paying in a different way and had different needs, and our waiter was wonderfully patient and helpful. The food was good too, and everyone enjoyed themselves. Overall a great experience.
Really terrible food. It’s hard to ruin a veggie burger, a pickle, and a chopped salad, but this place found a way to make them almost inedible. Everything over sweet and weird tasting. Brussels sprouts got left behind. Only the SP fries were good. Very good actually. Good service but not worth it.
The reality did not live up to the reputation. The patty melt was thin and uninspired, with a very small, flattened meat portion, so mostly it was bread. Finished it in a few bites. The carmelized onions: just a pile of pulverized goo that slid out of the sandwich onto the tray. The waffle fries were served cold initially; though they rushed to replace them, even hot they really didn’t have any flavor & seemed freezer burnt. For $20 I was expecting a nice fat bistro burger or at least a diner level experience. C’mon guys if there’s two things NYC is great at its pizza and burgers!!Edit: The worst part: made a polite complaint to the manager and he told me “that’s what a patty melt is!” Worst response possible. 👎🏻👎🏻 lesson learned. Avoid.
This was the best takeout Ive had the entirety of the pandemic. It arrived exactly on time and was HOT. I dont mean warm. I mean HOT like I was sitting at the restaurant. And, Im at least 15 blocks away. The food is always amazing. Burgers are extra classy and delicious. Everything there is great. Thanks for a great meal!
Food is delicious and so is the service. They attentive and to top it off they very good looking guys and girls as part of the staff. ;)Only complain would be the drinks. Beer, water, soda and even wipe cream all warm. SMHOther than that good prices and I can’t complain about the quality.
ONE OF THE BEST PLACES I EVER VISIT!!!!Everything was SOO good!!!!I had the veggie burger & sweet potato; burger was great, had a special sauce that made it even better. The sweet potato where good. The vanilla milk shake was delicious! Also had the onion ring and just thinking about make my mouth watered.I gave them 4 because it was soooo cold, and they have and door open because the delivery and the waiter couldn’t closed it. I was literally freezing; I think about it and I get so mad lolBut tbh it was totally worth it!!!!
Everything about this experience was just...okay. Is it a burger that will fulfill your craving for a burger? Sure. But will it blow you away? Unfortunately not. The waffle fries were delicious but the cheese fries had barely a sprinkle of cheese and were quite disappointing. Overall, I was unimpressed.
Alexandra our server and the rest of the team were amazing for outdoor dining with my son. The burger was excellent tiny bit rare but totally reasonable. Theyre very sensitive to me being gluten free and very helpful. The five napkin Burger was amazing, that Gruyere and that garlic aioli, wow. The waffle fries were a bonus.
We were a big company and sat on a very big table at the back. It wasnt a busy time so the staff were able to give us all the attention we needed. We tried different Burgers and every single one of them was so delicious and full of flavors. One of our friends couldnt resist and ordered another burger as he finished the first. The cocktails are tasty as well and so are the appetisers. Very positive experience and well definitely come back!
Lamb burger was not flavorful or well seasoned, nor was it cooked the way I ordered it. French fries soft and warm. Long Island Iced Tea was nice and strong. Service was good from the waiter, but when we called ahead for reservations we were told it would be 2hrs from then. When we arrived 15min later because we were already in the area, we were seated immediately. 🤦🏾♀️ Family friendly on a SAT night, lots of kids. Good for eating near movie theater, but would not recommend.
Great burger, bad fries and worse ordering app. food was coming at random on our table so it made going out for diner with friends a bad experience, there should be a way for the app to pre-set the the delivery time on the table by table and not by order. tap beers were with no gas so it made the experience even less than desirable, but the burgers are def above average
Such a great dining experience! The namesake 5 Napkin Burger is where its at. It is delicious and flavorful (but very messy). I braved the waffle fries and the onion rings #worthit. The waffle fries are perfection. Huge thank you to Marlon my waiter! He was so so nice and helpful and answered questions for me and gave me helpful advise. So glad I decided to go out tonight! Highly recommend for solo dining, dates (maybe not first since its a little messy), families, and small groups (pandemic guys, be safe) Speaking of pandemic, I felt SO SAFE with the measures taken.
Today a group of friends and I stopped here for brunch during our annual girls’ trip. It was amazing! Cat, our server was kind, funny, and attentive, but not pushy. The food was delicious and came out quickly. The place has a great atmosphere for a family or for a casual girlfriends’ brunch. I had the maple bacon, eggs, and hash browns. It was delicious and filling. Oh and I highly recommend the Bloody Mary! I cannot say enough nice things about the hospitality. Can’t wait to visit again.
Great utensils- best steak knife in NYC. Burger here very nice size vis a vis other stores. Green pepper fries are a must. Pro tip: eat them quickly dont be too deferring to others in your party, as they cool they toughen. Eat them while theyre HOT! All the staff is OUTSTANDING: they are proactively helpful even when youre not seated in their section, and most importantly: they genuinely care about anything you say, and not just the section server, all of them. Bar selection thumbs up.
I don’t go out to eat because I see certain restaurants just barely fulfilling New York forward protocol. My daughter wanted to celebrate her achievement and she has never been here so we came to have dinner here. Nicely organized tables at a distance which made us feel so comfortable and as soon as there was someone behind us, an employee from the restaurant came with big acrylic screen. These things are important while we are still battling virus.Burgers, fries and drinks are always delicious. We have been here before and always the same quality.
Terrasse is quite large and they have shield between tables. They have a QR menu which I appreciate. They disinfect quickly each table btw each clients however they don’t disinfect the chairs. I was on the terrace on sunday 2.00 pm and service was very slow. They never came to fill up our water and had to ask 3 times at the end to get one glass filled. When ordered my check, I ordered a piece of cake too, which took 30 min to arrive. That was quite upsetting since I paid already for it and had to chase our waitress several times with no update and an annoyed waitress.... I then went inside to cancel and get a refund and the cake box was just there... so very upsetting to leave your customers wasting time like that...the food was good, hence the 3 stars
The burgers (5 Napkin and brunch special Bacon & Egg) and fries were excellent! The brunch special nachos were rated fine by my brother, and the mimosas were good (not incredible) - but at two for $10, they were incredible for the price. I would love to go back and try one of their spiked milkshakes, another customer had one and it looked amazing.Service was excellent: we were greeted immediately, our server was friendly and took care of everything we needed with great timing. The place was busy, but we didnt have to wait to be seated and our food came out fairly quickly (and again, was delicious!)TLDR: I would definitely go again, and bring friends.
I got a 5 Napkin Burger with bacon. It was excellent. Very enjoyable. Also ordered fries with ranch. The ranch here is really good. The fries, however, were pretty pedestrian. By no means bad fries. Just very forgettable. Got a cookies and cream shake that was small but extremely tasty.Came out to $33. Probably not worth it to me to spend that much on this meal. I’d come back on a special occasion or with friends. But wouldn’t frequent due to the high cost.
Don’t bother ordering the sweet potato fries bc you won’t get them. Tonite was the 2nd time I got regular fries Instead. My favorite part of the take out was the waitress telling me ‘I don’t do coins ‘ when I was giving her a tip even though I only bills in my hand. Saved $5.00. The food is still good. Maybe better staff.
Nice service average burgers but I loved the tacos which makes no sense cause its called 5 Napkin Burger youd think the burger would be be outstanding. Its another story of lets expand and worry about getting rich quick rather than worrying about quality food which was the main goal when they first opened. Not to say dont eat here but dont get fooled by the look or name of the place try another burger restaurant first
We tried the Turkey Burger with the Zesty shrimp nachos as appetizer. They were both okay, nothing fantastic to travel far for. The restaurant in situated in a nice area right across from the leather reclining filled movie theatre. However, food didnt settle well and caused us to become a little sick. I wouldnt try again just because of that, so be wary. Otherwise its decent food for being in the area.
Surprisingly great place for vegetarians. They have an awesome menu with lots of options like salad bowls, burgers, and unique side dishes with a great veggie burger option that can be included on any dish. The food tastes fresh, creative, and well made. The veggie burger is outstanding here. For non vegetarians , they have numerous burger options as well as fish. The salad bowls are the way to go if you are looking for a big bowl of crunchy food topped with a burger. The burgers are always a classic. If you want French fries , they have good ones. Otherwise , you can order Brussels sprouts, avocado salad, onion rings, or other. They even have a sushi menu here !The servers are friendly and knowledgeable, but sometimes service can be slow.Overall, this place is a great place to go with an indecisive group, as there is something for everyone.
I wouldnt say this is the best burger we ever had, and trust me we have had our fair share of burgers, but this would come second or third. The burgers are HUGE and if youre getting two, I certainly recommend getting one fries to share. We could barely even finish this. After we were done with the food, we were full, and almost too full, for close to 7 hours but if was fine because we were able to walk all the way down to world trade center and burn some of it all.Wouldnt go here again because there are so many great burger spots in NYC and we rather try something new next time.
Great food, even better service. I ordered on seamless and put a note to make sure that they didn’t use soy because I’m on a Whole30. They called to let me know it was not a problem and ask if I wanted an aioli that is complient. It’s the second time they called when the didn’t have to in order to make sure everything is right. Also the tuna app (chips or lettuce) is awesome.
Crazy good burger and fries. Lovely industrial decor with timeless furniture and strange objects like meat hangers in the ceiling. The bathrooms were really nice and the staff was okay.Price wasnt too bad, but it wasnt cheap either. It was a bit weird for us that the burger didnt come with fries and you had to make a separate order.
The bartender was very nice and they serve flights of beer there which is cool, 3 7 oz for about 12.50. They had some local options which I havent had before. The fries were also good but make sure out of the regular ones you get the hand cut ones because the crinkle cut are not made in- house. The reason why Im giving the place only 3 stars is because the meal took forever to come out. Also the Turkey burger did not taste like a Turkey burger at all. It was completely overpowered by the tomato taste which I didnt like. Im sure the regular burgers taste good since the place was super crowded. Ill probably give this place a try again because everyone was friendly and everything else but the burger was good.
5 Napkin is absolutely amazing. While their food is a bit pricey, the quality and flavor of both their dishes and service is completely worth it. Ive had four different burgers and each one was better than the last! Ive brought friends over and we all agree that this place is top notch. My only nitpick would be that I wished they replaced the glass ketchup bottles with those plastic easy squeeze ones to make it more manageable, but thats the only thing. If youre looking for an excellent burger, this place has them!
This place was great. Burger joint with a lot more options than youd think. Large beer, wine, and cocktail menu also. The home cut fries were great and my party had several special requests (gluten free) that were accommodated. Sadly no gluten free buns, but the food was so good that I can overlook that. We are from out of town so Im not sure if this is normal, but almost every table except for ours has small children so obviously its a family friendly place. Service was excellent.
We stopped in for dinner and our experience was overall good. Not the fault of the restaurant, but we were seated next to some very noisy kids.Place can get loud, but overall, a good burger. You can typically get in without a wait, and even during peak times, you can usually get in quickly.Burger was good and we loved the fries. Would be a place we would go to again to get a burger!
Make a reservation !! This place is so good and so popular there is always a wait, but WORTH IT! I come here for the “Impossible Burger” - a vegetable based burger that completely mimics a hamburger!! Gluten free buns for goose if is with sensitivity! This is a great place to gather with a small or large group before a show. Several nyc locations...all consistent!
EDIT:Im a big meat guy but I tried the Impossible Burger last night- WOW -Looks just like meat and was so good. Highly recommend this.ORIGINAL:Had a minor issue once or twice and the manager came over without me asking and comped dessert. Food is awesome, staff is nice and overall is a good restaurant to go to.You CAN wait forever if you order online though - or seamless may screw up the order which has happened to me, so Id recommend just going.
We returned to the restaurant yesterday at the restaurants request. The service was great. We were comfortable at a corner booth with a space to park the stroller. It was a relaxing evening. The salad , the onion rings and the shake were delicious. The 5N burger came medium as requested and it was juicy and tasty. The rare cheese burger came medium but we were so relaxed that we did not care. We will go back but probably not for a rare burger.
Updated:Retried the delivery after being contacted by a representative of 5napkin. Delivery was significantly better and food arrived within the hour. Burger is good and sweet fries too.Good costumer service.Original:Tldr; avoid delivery at all costOrdered delivery, website says 30-45 minutes. After an hour I decided to call and check on my order, but the place was so loud that I couldnt hear the receptionist. She had to call me on her private phone and go somewhere quiet to get my name. After about 5-10 minutes on the phone she finally found my order and said that my order had just left the restaurant so I was hoping it might still be warm. Unfortunately the meal arrived 20 minutes later (about 85-90 minutes total!).But the worst part was that the bag containing the food was open and the fries were colder than room temperature (had to throw them out) and the burger was lukewarm and soggy.I dont mind the long delivery as much as the state of the food when it arrives. Terrible delivery system
Great burgers and fries. Their pickup option is easy peasy. Love the ability to choose options for each item. The staff does a great job. Since the West 84th Street and Broadway restaurant in Manhattan isnt far from Central Park, its a pretty dang good option for a little picnic. Milk shakes are tasty, too. Sometimes theres a silver lining during the COVID-19 dining protocols.
Love the burgers - disagree w others who think Jackson hole is better. The staff is what brings the rating of this place down. From host, to server to manager everyone seems to have a horrible attitude. Ive made reservations twice at this place and the table has never been ready and waited 20-30 min each time. I do think burgers are very good and thats why Ive gone back.
No hell raiser. My boyfriend had a beef bbq bacon and cheddar cheese burger. He liked it. Turkey burgers...different story definitely not up to par. Waiter did not ask or tell us about fries not coming with the meal so I had to flag him down to order because he didn’t offer them when he took our order. Service was not great. Agree with the earlier reviewer. Better options are only train stops away.
Ordered the Korean BBQ wings and sweet potato fries. Both were delicious. The service could have been better. Waiter forgot my order & we had to wait for the customary cup of water that initially comes at any eatery. Ill try it again one day and hopefully give it a full 5 stars.
The staff and the place are awesome. I got the texican salad and paid additional for grill chicken, only got like 4-5 skinny pieces which is a bit disappointing. My sister got a burger and sweet potatoes fries ($7) and they were tasty. The Cheesecake was okay, kind of small with too much crust.
I havent had the opportunity to eat at their location, but their burgers deliver surprisingly well. They are great about putting things on the side and they cook has always been exactly what I ordered. Just an FYI, their rosemary aioli is great, but they are a bit heavy handed with it so I would definitely recommend getting it on the side.
Great service, great food. Every member of the staff was kind and attentive. We had an appetizer, a couple of burgers, a beer and a shake. Everything was lovely. The menu offers all sorts of interesting twists on the burger theme (I got a korean BBQ burger). I did indeed thoroughly use my napkin, though despite the chains name, you only get one nice cloth napkin. :P
This place is my preferable restaurant. Of all restaurants I know I love it most. I never miss an opportunity to go to visit this place. Whenever I feel like having a superb lunch, this place comes immediately to my head. Great and diverse food and a rich menu.trained team, and good ambience. Not less important, the charge is decent. I recommend this place with no hesitation.
In New York there is an inflation of burger joints. They are ubiquitous, they are similar and each of them wants to give their own peculiar twist. I could not find one here. The food is ordinary although good. According to my kid he had the best cookie and cream shake ever (but he is only 15 😊). I would go back for its convenience and overall good service.
The burgers are great. The staff is very attentive, cordial and friendly. They had in mind our order and avoided us from over ordering fries. That was nice. The price might be a bit expensive for some people, but to be honest when the burgers are that good you know didnt overpay it.I would recommend anyone whos a burger fan
Sit down was nice, service was lovely, but for the price I was really let down by the food. Fries came out way too over cooked, burger was medium well when I ordered medium rare, the bun was stale, the lettuce wilted, and the meat too salty. It’s a shame because the vibe and the environment would’ve guaranteed me as a regular but the food was a let down.
Mediocre experience.A below-average burger.. you can easily find a better burger within a couple subway stops. The fries were good! But the drinks seemed sloppy. Service was slow and our server gave a rather arrogant vibe, like we were privileged to be sitting at his table. Not likely we will be back.
We tend to gravitate to this burger joint when were in the neighborhood. I like the pickles and the fact they have gluten free buns. The fries and the lamb burger are particularly good. Also, they are always welcoming of our baby carriage and have space somewhere to stow it.
$2 sliders, .50c wings, random sushi rolls and $4 drafts during happy hour. Super limited seating at the bar, and no bar tables, so get there early. The sliders and drafts were good. The wings and sushi was just ok. Friendly waitstaff. Overall its a nice little place, and I would go again.
I was very displeased with all the hype about the food here. The onion tower was basic, nothing spectacular. The burgers were very salty and orders werent correct. When brought to the attention of our waiter, nothing was done so we altered them ourselves. Although the waiter was quick with water refills his pouring technique needs to be revisited for training. Multiple times I had to move my plate cause instead of picking up the glass and pour he would just lean all over the food to pour, once I even had to push the container cause it was resting atop my burger. Dont think I shall return, but good luck fellow patrons!
The food and drinks are amazing. If you want prime meats and quality cocktails try 5 napkin and you wont regret it. I quickly became a fan of 5 Napkin during the pandemic after trying it for the first time and I’ve been blown away by their sustainable packaging, amazing menu and they always hit every order note, not to mention my order typically arrives in 30 minutes every time.I love ordering their frozen $7 margs and rum punch for friends and the classic burger/ double burger/ delicious sweet potato fries lol I could go on about their wonderful customer service.I’ve told countless friends and now I’m telling you to VISIT 5 Napkin Burger 🍔 UWS
This location is perfectly place in the heart of the Upper Westside. I went just to feed the children and was pleasantly surprised with the portions and side options being that the meal was only $8.00. (They had a decent sized pizza with veggie sticks.) Pizza looked fresh and taste great! The service is fast but customers dont feel rushed. Will definitely return!
This used to be another restaurant I used to frequent when I was younger w my family before going to see a movie or whatever on a weekend back in the day. Once it was gone it was sad and the other locations never stood to the same level. Napkin Burger took over and honestly I didnt ever venture in until today w my boyfriend. The layout feels similar and nostalgic but w a new theme and food of courses. We received a window booth on a Friday early evening so I felt fortunate and felt like the vibe was pretty steady and laid back / pleasant. The food was great - some things I tried as the restaurants staple dishes and I enjoyed them. I learned what I like and not like just like any favorite place. This was a good experience and we do plan on returning. Thanks!!
Dont waste your money...Expensive and not worth it. Some staff members are very professional and proper. Nevertheless, there is a young lady with short hair that service the left side of the restaurant once in... Avoid her... Suffers from anger management issues.Paying $16.00 for a simple burger without fries or a piece of a pickle its a joke. I just paid $50.00 for a simple burger, guacamole, and a soda.Walk away from this place...
I havent had red meat in 15 years so I might not be the best judge of this burger joint...Except I am in love with the Beet Bistro Burger!!! Absolutely my favorite non meat burger ever. This place is always super crowded and they do not take reservations after 5pm. Now that I dont live in the city, I make a point of going back whenever I have a chance to visit. Its that good.
We stopped in here last night for late drinks with friends and i was pleasantly surprised. Everyone was happy enough with the sliders and the cocktails were surprisingly good. Wine list was short but ... Its an overdressed burger joint and the Malbec was just fine. One bartender wasnt enough for the number of people but she was really nice and attentive.
We came here for lunch before heading to AMC across the street. I had been to 5NB in Hells Kitchen several years ago & Mason next-door was very packed with long waitlist so we decided reluctantly to grab a burger & fries here.Although it is technically allowed, I personally find it terribly annoying sitting at a bar that allows children to sit at the bar (as was the case on my visit). Coughing kids with runny noses smacking their cheeseburger down and slurping their milkshake... should be at ChuckECheese, not at a bar where I’m gonna pay $15+ for a hamburger and enjoy an alcoholic drink. Oh well, I survived.I found the burgers pretty mediocre. Not seasoned at all, no taste from the grill and overall pretty bland. The cooks did cook it as i requested perfectly (medium) so I give them props for that. Fries were not made to order and not very hot. No reason for that outside of a fast-food restaurant. Bun had been lightly toasted but maybe not to order as it wasn’t even warm. Bacon cooked far ahead and left out & I think probably deep fried which I can’t stand that lazy shortcut. Bacon should taste like bacon, not fryer oil. It could go a long way for one place in NYC to actually put quality freshly baked or grilled bacon their bacon burner. Also of note - while sitting at the bar one of the servers scratched his nose and then with the same hand grabbed celery for a bloody-Mary he was garnishing. He did use tongs and a stick for the other garnishes but that is a pet-peeve of mine and simply kinda gross.Overall the price-point does not match the experience nor the quality of the food for me. I honestly would rather go to 5Guys instead of 5Napkin.This specific location is great for the UWS which is sincerely lacking quality restaurants, and this happens to still be one but there is definitely some room for improvement to be even better.
Although the food is good, we’ve had a problem every single time we’ve eaten here. In the restaurant they discounted our food and when ordering online they had to do the same. I would be fine with mistakes once in a while but literally every single time I come here there is a mistake. One of the workers was also very nasty to me when it was HER place of employment that messed up my order then tried to double charge me when I asked them to give me the correct order. All in all I’ve had a bad experience and won’t be eating here again.
This place was not good. The food is good, atmosphere is ok, and the service is bad. The food that I get here is always tasty. But the last time I went here, my order was messed up. I ordered a sunny side up egg with my bacon and eggs, but they gave me scrambled eggs. The atmosphere is not great. There are a lot of people in here at Brunch, and those people plus the music is not very pleasant.
To be honest, this was not our first choice of a restaurant, but we decided to eat here and we were not disappointed! Food & service was great but most of all the pickles were amazing. Would return again just for the pickles. If you are thinking about going, i would just go!
I was at 5 napkin burger on 10/13 around 10 pm and sat in a booth parallel to the side street. I would love to comment on the quality of my meal But I Cant. I went to dinner with my cousin and was seat immediately. After spending our first 5 minutes looking at the menus and deciding what to order, we closed our menus and awaited our server cause they hadnt made an appearance yet. Another 10 Minutes had gone by without a glass of water or any sort of acknowledgement, My cousin had to use the restroom and we decided to give it another 5 Minutes and if no one had come over we would leave when he returned. It looked like there we 3-4 servers doing laps without a glace. So 20 minutes went by we where very hungry so we left. We proceeded to walk up and down Broadway looking for something else to eat and nothing. We pass by 5 minutes later and another couple was seating in our booth and was already served wine. Thanks for making my evening with a poor meal from Penn Station. Ive been hearing great things but I guess you dont serve my kind there what ever that might be, Normal? Thanks for nothing!!!PS the booth are very soft and comfortable.
5 Napkin Burger is on point. The original 5 Napkin Burger with Gruyere Cheese is amazing. The cheese combines with the burger and caramelized onions to create a unique flavor. The portions are really good and it is priced well. Our group was interested in the deep fried pickle appetizer with pastrami and did come away not disappointed, and the wings some of the best Ive had. The sweet potato fries were made really well and salted just right. My friends also really enjoyed their mixed berry lemonades. To top it off, we got the 7 layer chocolate cake which is extremely rich. As my friend suggested, get a glass of milk (addl $2). All in all, the decor and service was great, and I will definitely come here again.
I had a horrible experience 7 Table open yet the host told me that we would need to wait 25-30 minutes to be seated with a nasty attitude the other two host walked away but proceed to stay in earshot distance and watched,I don’t recommend this restaurant for anyone who wants to spend there money & be show respect at the same time.Shame on the young girl who was hosting!!Saturday night 11/16/19
Good burger, although the meat could have used salt, but the fries were a joke. A small cup of limp, luke-warm shoestrings. Is it so hard to fry them so that they are ready at the same time as my burger??? I recommend upgrading your sides if you get a burger. About 20 bucks for a burger, lousy fries and a Coke, but this is NYC so thats about average.
Best burger I had in NY so far. Mine was well done but still juicy, flavorful and combined perfectly with the luscious (and abundant) rosemary aioli. The lamb burger is very well balanced and the classic fries are just great (and I should know, Im belgian :-). Kids get their own menu including a couple of crayons that will help them waiting until the food arrives, which I found nice and thoughtful. Its not a quiet place but hey, its a diner, what did you expect? :-) Will definitely go back soon. Oh yeah! :-)
Gluten free with a Love/hate relationship with this place. Love the bar and service when I sit there hate the table service. If you order a burger have them grill the GFbun or it will fall apart 30 seconds after you get it. Dedicated fryer so fries are great! Skip the lemonade it’s a glass full of ice that you get 3 sips of for $2.00 no refills. Happy hour drinks are relatively good. With a limited choice of late night GF on upper west side I eat here a fair amount. burgers are good.
I have visited this place for the first time.First impression, the restaurant looked ok. I visited there during late night, so it wasnt that busy. Due to visiting there for the first time, I asked the waiter about popular burger menu in the restaurant and ordered a burger, fries, and a coke.(DBL 5 Cheese Burger, medium)1. FoodI. Burger1) ImpressionBurger tasted fine. However, I was upset about how the dish was laid out.I paid $17.50 for a burger. However, what I got was just a single burger and thats it. Personally, I was thinking that a burger dish would come with a decent fries, but no. I was told that I had to order fries separately, because it does not come with the burger. Well, I would understand if restaurant serve burger that way. However, I couldnt deny that I was deeply upset that what I got was a single burger without any pickles, or fries with it.As for the burger, a cut bun with two thin patty, three slice of pickles, maybe cheese. I wont say too much if the restaurant serve it that way. However, I cant deny that I was keep getting the feeling that burger was lacking (component wise). Like I said. I wont say much about it if restaurant makes it that way. However, for me, the burger felt as if it was lacking.II. FriesLike I said above, I ordered fries separately because burger did not come with fries. I ordered a small fries. First impression, the fries reminded me more of those thin potato stick snacks rather than a proper fries. I feel that a proper fries should be hot, crunchy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. However, the fries I got was a fries that looked like those thin potato stick snack. A joke. (try googling utz original potato stix and you would understand what I mean by potato stick snack). One sentence to define my fries experience at this restaurant:It was a joke.III. Food overallThe burger tasted good. However, it is not enough to give it five star. The burger I ordered (and obviously the fries) gave out a strong impression that it was lacking some elements. Might order out of hunger. However, would not order again for a proper burger experience. For a price, the food was a literal let down. Disappointing.2. ServiceI visited the place at night, after 8:30pm. The place wasnt busy. However, after ordering, I was unable to notify a server for my needs. There are multiple servers however they are too immersed in something else that they dont even notice me in need of service. Had to wait a long while just to have a server to notice me for a paper napkin. (My hand was wet with dripping burger). I felt as if the servers were not paying too much attention to the customer and was annoyed a bit. I would have understood if the restaurant was busy with customer. However, restaurant wasnt busy when I went there for dinner. So I will say that it is quite annoying the fact that the server do not pay much attention to the customer.3. Final thoughts.I visited this place for the first time. Mainly because I wanted to have a good burger. However the restaurant was unable to provide me with a decent burger experience.I hardly doubt that I would dine at this place again.I will be finding other burger places with good burger and fries and good service.
Cosy place. Low light for a romantic date, if you have found that right person that will not judge you by your greasy hands. Pick any burger; Thats gonna be even more reasons to love yourselves. Salads? Be prepared to get saciated with hints of complex flavors. Loved the place. Highly recommended.
Crowded but worth it (secret for quiet enjoyment: late lunch or early dinner--plan your visit between 3 and 5). The burger salads are memorable. Choice of burger (beef, turkey, tuna etc.) atop perhaps the best bed of assorted salad greens in town. The highly-touted onion rings are meh, but the sweet potato fries rock, as do the shakes.
The 2 stars I gave is for the food only!... I am super sad my experience was sooooo terrible Went to a different location of five napkins a year ago on my last visit to NY and had a great experience all the way around. On this trip however they didnt stand up to the the bar set by the 14th St location. Victor was my waiter and he put some pickles on the table and said Ill be right with u. I started to mention to him that my table was dirty and he cut me off and repeated Ill be right with you so I repeated if you could have someone come over to clean the table it would be great. 1 minute later someone came to clean the table and proceeded to push the onions off the table and on my lap( really) then I put in my order of a burger and onion rings the onion rings didnt come out I asked him to see where they were and he told me he didnt put them in because I looked like I was on the fence about them. Huh??? Then asked if I would like to order them at this point I was ready to leave but my kid was eating and it was cold I had no fight left in me refused the side dish and went on to eat my burger which was great ! My son love his burger and fries..I ordered a Sprite which I dont think was a Sprite, maybe it was a serria mist... Or just watered down or the ice tasted funny idk but it just wasnt right, if it was a serria mist you guys should notify your customers so they can make a informed decision. I had no fight in me at this point I just wanted my check and was happy to leave I will never come back to five napkins after this experience. its sad because I was sooooo excited to be there
I was there last weekend Saturday and I received the best service ever. The server/waitress traci was amazing..god bless her beautiful soul. But yea the food was amazing, I will be back traci lol. Oh and I had a juicy flavorful turkey burger with sweet potato fries !
Unimpressed with their burger. Their signature burger had too much of the toppings, making it difficult to appreciate the flavor of the burger; the french fries were flavorless and crispy. My waiter was very distracted and not very helpful. The only truly excellent part of my meal was the spacious interior and cucumber soda.
Ive given 5 Naps many shots but it keeps disappointing. For a place with burgers in its name, the main attractions are disappointing: the burgers are okay, but far from great. The signature burger is perfectly fine but definitely not worth a detour. Items like the lamb burger are slightly more interesting but, again, better incarnations can easily be found elsewhere. The most disappointing item was the panko-based onion rings: a but like cardboard and none of the beignet-like quality of the traditional version. On the plus side, there is a large selection of libations.Service is very friendly. Sadly, it is also very pushy. Last time I was there, our waiter kept upselling every item and repeatedly tried to get us to order extras. Felt a lot more like an Olive Garden or some such, than a restaurant that tries to be somewhat upscale.Too bad,.as Id love this to be a local favorite.A quick note on my rating scale: 5 stars = exceptional food & service; 4 stars = excellent food & service; 3 stars = decent to good (top-of-the-line for fast service restaurants); 2 stars = mediocre; 1 star = not recommended.
Excellent, real burgers. Not those flat disks that most places serve. If you ask for it medium rare you get it charred on the outside and reddish-pink in the middle, with the juices flowing. The hand cut fries are also the real thing. If youre looking for an old-fashioned burger experience, before burgers were thin or cooked until they were grey in the middle, you cant go wrong.
Didn’t have a good experience at allWaited for the burger 30 mins when i got it, it was cold and didn’t arrive with the friesThe burger after asking to heat it wasn’t tasting good at all.The place had very very loud music made me feel uncomfortable.Recommendations for visitors in NY from me - go to shake shack way better and less pricy.

2022-02-09Food was decadent and delicious. Burger was served medium rare and piled high with toppings; parmesan truffle fries were good (Standard fries with toppings)- nice pairing with the 2 for 1 mimosa. Overall very nice restaurant week experience, would recommend

2022-07-13I come here a lot for lunch in the summer because the salads are so filling and refreshing. I’m sure the burgers are great too, but in these temps, the hamburger salad with the grilled salmon on top will fill you to the brim without giving you any meat sweats. Great outdoor seating, consistently very friendly waiters, perfectly cooked fish.

2022-06-26Dinner was excelent. We had a 5 napkin burger and some fries with bacon and cheddar. The burger was great, it came with gruyere cheese and an alioli. The alioli was a bit strong. The fries were great too.Service was perfect.Place was not that full so we managed to get a table easy.

2022-07-26Came here with my girlfriend and her kids and had a good experience. The service was attentive and quick and we all enjoyed our food. I had the 5 napkin burger, my girlfriend the lobster sliders and the kids had bacon cheeseburgers. The sliders came with homemade potato chips which were tasty and the crinkle cut fries were quite good. The one low point was the sweet potato fries - we all felt they could have been crispier. The place is pricey - be prepared to pay a premium but it is a nicely made burger!

2022-07-30This is probably one of my favorite burger spots ever. The 5 Napkin Burger is just fabulous. Juicy, flavorful, everything you would want in a burger!! As an aside, their Matzo Ball Noodle Soup is really tasty too. Service was super nice and attentive. If youre looking for a delicious burger please give this place a visit!!

2022-06-24So I walked into the bar alone at 9:28pm. I hurried to get there before 930 because I was afraid the kitchen would close on me but the bartender did that thing that bartenders do when they ignore you and walk past you a bunch of times without making eye contact. When he finally did I immediately asked if I could still order food, he very casually and without responding walked over and got me multiple menus. Upon returning to me I asked again so I can order food? He nodded and I ordered a 5 napkin burger medium well. I actually said well to him again as he was putting it in the machine right in front of me and asked me again seeming to have not payed any attention to me the first time. Look I get it, I used to serve and bartend, it was the end of his shift. Fyi here the burgers come with Nothing on the side so I had to order fries, crinkle fries as he said they didn’t have waffle fries which I had remembered. I was in a rush to catch a movie in 20 min so I didn’t want to stop progress. They were also out of half their draft beers, the one I would have ordered so I stuck it out with water. $25 burger and fries, flagship, ordered twice medium well came out bloody. I didn’t complain. I shoveled down half and got to my movie on time. I probably won’t be back.
