Nice people but can run out of products often. Maybe the should adjust their ordering to have more the most frequently and popular items and not get so many new labels which dont sell. I used to be in the retail food business and institutional sales. I know of what I speak
Im a tourist and the prices were similar to ones in NOVA and MD. I have gone to 5 or 6 grocery stores so far around here and it was the only one where the man working there asked me if I needed help or assistance while I was looking at the herbs and supplements. Very nice products and welcoming store. Good vibe!
Lovely place, the staff are nice and there is a huge selection of everything you need from toilet products to local natto from Brooklyn. :-) There is a juice bar and soup bar, plus a nice selection of vitamins. Matthew is the one who helped us last time, he is very knowledgeable for supplements.
The best grocery store I know of in the neighborhood for organic and health foods. Only down side is that they have so few locations and since Ive moved further north Im not able to go as often as I would like. Please open up another location closer to the Second Ave line at 86th Street!
Great selection of food, shakes, beauty products and supplements for the health conscious consumer. They offer at least 5 varieties of soup on a daily basis and grab- and-go salads. Fruit and vegetables are overpriced but you pay for what you get ”organic”!. I like to buy fresh turmeric and ginger root from this store on a regular. The staff is very knowledgeable and helpful about essential oils, vitamins, supplements etc. I always walk away with new knowledge. The place can get very crowded at lunch time.
I want to express my deepest gratitude to one of employee who works in supplement vitamins section Matthew. Several years from the day the store was opened at 72 Street he has provided great help and selected an amazing complex of vitamins showing unbelievable knowledge.Recently I was tested positive for COVID-19. Matthew gave me a complex of vitamins and some medication to drink. That at my 56 yearsold and having a high weight and prediabetic condition I didn’t even have a fever or cough and my recovery went very well.Your store is the best thing that happened in our neighborhood and the the best customer service.Thank you so much for saving my life.
YOUNG WOMEN BEWARE. Was publicly harassed three times TO THE POINT OF TEARS while shopping here by the stock employees. Physically intimidated by one when I called him out. The manager saw me crying and pretended to take the issue very seriously and checked the cameras but I returned the other day to see the same employee staring me down. Clearly they do not put customer safety first, red flag as a woman in this neighborhood. Will be posting a picture of him soon so women are aware as management is not handling it.
This is my favorite health food store when I visit NYC, and thats saying a lot considering I go to 85% of them. Westerly is a close second, but A Matter of Health has bigger aisles and I dont have to constantly squeeze by people stocking. A shout out to Matt - thanks for being such a warm, nice guy!I particularly love the whole body section - wonderful sale prices that beat Whole Foods and every other store in NYC! I bought excellent shampoo on sale that I havent seen in Chicago - so great, my daughter used it every day as well! The only downside to this place is the bathroom - hold it if you can! Im not exaggerating - it smells like the the stinkiest, rank animal cage at the the zoo. Yuck!
This is their new large location. I love it! They have a huge selection of fantastic products. Some of my favorite healthy indulgences are:Josephs Pita (only 60 calories a pocket)No-Fat Hummus (18-25 calories/2 T versus 60 for others)Thai Curry HummusTheir soups look great, they have a huge selection of organic, gluten-free, dairy-free, whatever allergy you have food. But its not just for health nuts, theres also just a lot of really good and interesting products here for gift baskets, etc.
I love how small and quaint this place is. Everyone knows me in here and always welcomes me with smiles and “good to see you today”s. I love how everytime I am there, the staff of checking the produce for freshness. This is extremely important to me because who wants black cilantro? Or mushed tomatoes? I’m also vegan so veggies make up 90% of my diet.
All organic produce!! That makes is simple with no second guessing on where your apples came from. Really helpful staff, and a fast checkout makes this supermarket amazing! The holistic health section is filled with everything you would want in supplements, and if they dont carry it theres an awesome, knowledgeable trinidadian man who can get it for you. Great shopping experience!
Great selection, rude staff. My small child asked mommy why were they looking at us like they are mad at us? I had noticed while we were in the store and was sad to hear he also noticed. Cashier didnt speak a word even after I greeted her and thanked her after checkout.
If you are looking for probiotics, Matter of Health is the place. They have a large refrigerated probiotic section with all the top brands. They also have an excellent fresh vegetable juice bar . In addition they have a full assortment of organic produce, and a high end grocery store as well. If you are in the mood for soup and sandwich, they have that located near the sushi bar. Prices are reasonable considering location on upper East side Manhattan. The check out clerks and other workers are all courteous and helpful. This is one of my favorite places to shop.
The attendants at the juice bar lack customer service skills. For the prices they are asking for a cup of juice, they should treat customers better. They’ve been rude on multiple occasions. It’s a shame because I like the rest of the store. The manager should definitely look into training or rehiring this set of employees.
Probably the best place to find organic food around but only because there arent any other options in the neighborhood! It is organic but with no environmental consideration, they still use plastic bags for everything, the fresh produce travel from all over the world (kiwi from New Zealand!) . Delivery is free but it often comes with broken eggs, broken bottles and/or damaged fruits and vegetables. Customer service is often very rude. I will still go but only because I have no choice! Im stuck!
Cashier asked me to wait line. I looked around there is no line and I walked to cashier. I bought 3 for $5 drink but she charged me full price. I asked her why she did that. Cashier walked back and she said I will fixed but she didnt fix correctly. I wanted talk to manager. When manager came, I asked him to refund items. He said, I will refund for you and you dont come back my store again. Also Manager curse to me his own language.
There was no room to move around in the store, but I didn’t even get a chance to see the entire place anyway. There was a woman behind a table selling a product that she stated was good for everyone and even for pregnant women, and then she inappropriately assumed I was expecting a baby, so I left the store ASAP. I would be uncomfortable going into that store again.
We are lucky to have such an amazing health food grocery like this in the neighborhood. The owner Billy is the most amazing and caring person who has been in the business for 4 decades and knows how to pick the best produce and food. The freshest of food and great organic selection. I love all the Gluten free products and homemade soup is great. I love the juice bar too.Everything you can need for groceries under one roof! A true gem of a store!

2021-11-21Am usually at a Matter of Health every two weeks to stock up on their tuna salad which I use to make sandwiches. I used to get my stock in a fish store walking distance from the apartment. However, they charge twice as much for the tuna and its not even wild caught (they show the regular tuna cans in their counter). Luckily, found something much better in the Upper East Side.A Matter of Health is probably the most fully stocked store of anything organic you will need. Usually, am here for the tuna though will also get 72% dark chocolate, bread, chips (so many kinds), coconut juice, fruits ( bananas, blueberries, grapes, kiwis, etc), wagyu hotdogs, buns, ice cream, shampoo and the list goes on. Prices are reasonable for organic stuff compared to other places. Place is usually busy after office hours and even early on the weekends (everyone seems to have the same idea but all end up coming at the same time)The juices are pretty good and it depends on what you need the juice for. Lot of other sandwich spread choices aside from tuna as well. The store has practically everything one may need (perishable or non perishable). If you decide to come here more than once, you should sign up for their promo to accumulate purchase points. This allows you to get credits to your purchase usually at the end of the year. There is also a guy making fresh sushi. Right beside this area is where they serve hot soup (maybe 4 types) perfect for for a cool day.I highly recommend visiting this store if ever you are in the Upper East Side. As I mentioned, it has almost everything one needs that is organic. Check it out.

2022-01-23I had an appointment in the area and visited the store on 01.04.2022. The customer service was a mix of fair to very helpful. I returned on 01.18.2022 and the cashier 535 Claudia was very friendly and suggested that I sign up for your Loyalty Points card, which I did. Based on our interaction, I will shop there again. Please encourage all of your employees to value All customers. I dont want to think that somehow, some of your employees thought I was a service worker running errands, which does not in any way validate their actions.

2022-02-15Omg guys. I just moved to the area and I’ve been slowly checking out grocery stores in the area. I went here for the first time today and it is my jam! The best selection of organic produce I’ve seen yet. It’s NOT Whole Foods and with a store like this I can see why WF has not infiltrated the area! I’m not big on supplements but if you are I am quite certain you will find everything you need here. The supplement section was so extensive and super organized. (For you Harry Potter fans out there: I would compare it to Ollivander’s Wand Shop!)The only downside is that there isn’t a proper meat counter here. I’m guessing this store focuses on plant-based people because the meat section consists of one refrigerated case. I saw a limited selection of beef. They seemed like convenient options: beef cut for easy stir fry, and Italian seasoned meatballs that would make a quick and tasty snack or addition to a meal. I would try these in the future but alas I was on a hunt for steak!

2022-05-11I have been to this store several times. The products are fresh and of good quality. However, all of the cashiers I’ve interacted with (so far) were rude and impolite.

2021-05-11The products and prices are better than any of the conventional grocery stores around. The produce seems to be maintained constantly. It would be nice to see more local offerings and more specific/clear signs.Out of the five visits Ive made, Ive been greeted and offered help once (this was a grocer working a delivery in the cereal aisle 5/11/21 ~11:30am).That isnt really a great rate, but the one person was was kind so it made an impact.Overall, I think this is my favorite grocery in New York. If the service on the sales floor becomes consistent, Ill gladly change to five stars.

2022-04-02The Chinese guy who makes sushi is amazing, as is the Indian guy who works in the Vitamin section (you can find all vitamins and supplements you need), and the guy who works in the Soup bar (favorites: Thai Chicken Soup .., Chicken noodle s ., Lentils, etc)If only all workers were like these !!!My husband and I are shopping in this grocery store almost every day and we were being ignored by cashiers. They rarely gratitude you, even when we do it first sometimes they dont reply! 50% are products, and the other half is service !!! Juice bar also lack customer service skills! They could learn a lot from Traders Joe about how customers should be treated! When you ask staff about some product the most of the time they tell you that they dont have it. Almost every time I found those items by myself, after already buying them at the other place. They really should show more effort to help customers or to refer to somebody who knows more about the products.Their products are good quality: organic, simple ingredients, gluten-free, vegan, not GMO ...Too bad they dont show in a better way to the public!

2019-02-09One of my favorite health food stores in NYC. The produce looks great, the chocolate is plentiful (love Lilys, as well as TCHO from the Bay Area), and there are some rare, quality brands scattered throughout. One of my current favorites is Rebel Creamery ice cream: low-carb, keto-friendly, and leagues beyond the mainstream protein ice creams in terms of taste and texture. Will continue coming here for my fix!

2021-06-20My go-to grocery. They have most things I want and they’re typically cheaper than the other stores like Morton Williams. The produce is good and I find my niche staples here that I can’t find at other stores in the neighborhood. As always, remember to check food labels—just because it’s here doesn’t make it automatically healthy!
