AAMCO Transmissions & Total Car Care in other cities:
I have brought several trucks to get the transmission done. And every time the transmissions kept on slipping. This shop tried hard to find the problem but no matter what they tried to replace or flush out nothing helped. We took about 4 GMC 2500hd trucks here over a period of about 3 years. Wanting to give them the benefit of the doubt. The last truck we had serviced her it was brought back more than 6 or 7 times. They took the truck in and rebuilt the tranny two times. And still the same problem. I have to give credit to the owner he really tried to fix the problem but couldnt. There warranty is not good. Look around do your research.
My car broke down on the thruway while coming home from the Adirondacks. The towing place brought it here and after having the car for 2 days they told me it needed a transmission which would run me about $1500 to $1800. Instead I opted to have it towed to my local mechanic in Orange County. It needed a new alternator for $350. I only gave them one star because I had to in order to post this review. Id strongly advise against taking your car here. EVER.
Vince and Mike from Albany Aamco on Central Ave are real stand up guys. They really try to work with you to diagnose the problem with your car/transmission and get you the best care. When the technicians ran into trouble, and I had family engagement that weekend to attend, Mike agreed to rent me a car from Hertz so I wouldnt miss out. These are good people and I feel you can trust them and I recommend their business and services to anyone.
I wish I could give them 0 stars this was the absolute worst mechanic I ever been to in my entire life... HORRIBLE customer service, they try to up sell and overcharge you for everything, the mechanic Vinny even tried to sell me a part that was not available for my car. They never give a direct answer, if you ask a question about a part they will get an attitude, and tell you you are asking to many questions, Vinny could not even tell me how he got to the price he quoted. I was quoted $2800, when i went through the charges we only got up $2150, and they had no explanation of where the other $650 came from.THIS BUSINESS SEEMS LIKE A COMPLETE SCAM, SO NEVER GO HERE YOU WILL GET RIPPED OFF.
I recently was on my way to the mall with my mom when my jeep just stopped. My mom is elderly and it was freezing out so we got very nervous. I was convinced it was my transmission. I called Aamco and they came out and got us in literally minutes. After they put it up on the lift they told me my transmission was fine, it was a broken axle and so much more affordable for me to fix. Im so grateful for the promp rescue and Vinces total honesty. A huge shout out to this garage!
Superior prices, and great work that includes a nationwide warranty.I had two motor mounts and a new transmission floor shifted installed at the Aamco on Central ave. Orange Motors Ford wanted 1,362.00 for the job. Firestone wouldnt touch the Floor shifter job saying that they couldnt beat Ford since they would be getting the parts from them. Firestone wanted 528.00 for just the engine mounts.Aamco did the entire job for 598.00. a saving of 765.00 from Ford or Firestone. The mechanics at Aamco actually fixed some of the parts as opposed to ordering all new part assemblies. Aamco warrantys all of the parts regardless.Bye bye Firestone!
I came into Aamco thinking I was going to need a new or rebuilt transmission and to my surprise it turned out to be a leaking cooler lines, WOW!!! Honest people !!!! Can’t say enough mike and vinnie really went out of there way to show me everything and answer my questions, I’m a customer for life .

2022-03-25This shop took my boyfriends car to do a free diagnosis, kept his car for 8 days! They told him his transmission mounts were rotted out and needed to be replaced, he paid nearly $700 to have them replaced , they kept it for another 4 days… they damaged his whole fender and scratched his driver side door and denied that they did it. . He threatened to file a claim about it and they said it must have been hit in the parking lot… they agreed to fix it finally. But when he drove his car home, the original mounts were given back to him, they were perfectly intact not at all rotted. So they charged him $700 to fix something that wasn’t broken and now his car shakes violently. This shop held his car for 12 days just to damage his car and make it run worse than before AND damaged the body too. These people are unprofessional and liars. It’s a shop full of sheisty old men who can’t do their jobs but still want to take your money. Use them at your own risk.

2021-12-04Very upset with the service I received from this place. Brought my car here in July of 2021 to have my wiring harness replaced. Not only did they take two whole weeks to do this, after constantly saying they would work on it tomorrow, it seems they never even did the work that I paid hundreds of dollars for. We are the ones that bought the part for my car, because apparently they wouldnt/couldnt do that. Now Im finding out months later that the part was probably never even replaced, as it somehow has a tear in it, despite the fact that brand new wiring harnesses should last the life of a car. We specifically had told them to give us the old part back, so that way we would know they replaced it (because after multiple conversations with them, it sounded as though they didnt want to do the work, so we had our doubts). After finding this out, it would seem they took the new part out of the box, rubbed some grease on it to make it looked used and wasted both my time and money. I would NEVER recommend this place and would give it zero stars if I could.

2021-09-13I was in town for a funeral for the sudden death of a relative. The day before I was to drive back home, my brakes started screeching. I had over an 12 hour drive ahead of me the next morning. I called everyone on the Central Ave strip,… (OH YES, I’m name dropping’!!…)-Midas, Monro Auto service & Tire, Meineke, and Pep Boys. The all quoted me abt $450.00+. That’s more than my car note! Most were rude, especially a gentlemen with an accent at Pep Boys, techs @ Midas, after explaining the sudden death in the family and the urgency behind getting it done same day for as affordable as possible. Didn’t even offer their condolences. “Yea, all the prices went up around here so you’re probably not gonna get it any less than that.” 😤😤😤😤 …Not VINNIE @ AAMCO! He was patient, understanding, courteous, knowledgeable. Can’t say enough good things. I think he even stayed later to work out my problem though he was modest enough not to tell me. I never post reviews and I’m not old fashioned but the sheer decency and compassion Vinnie showed me. I just had too . Thank you Vinnie and the AAMCO family on Central Ave. I’M RECOMMENDING YOU TO EVERYONE! EXCELLENT SERVICE ‼️💪🙏😅

2021-07-31I took my 99 Escort into the Albany, NY AAMCO to have the transmission mount replaced, which they did. Plus they also drilled out and replaced a broken stud, thanks to living up here in salt/rust country. Great work @ a fair price. David L Frisby.

2021-05-07We were on a six hours road trip when our transmission cooler gave up. AAMCO took us right in, sourced the part and had us back on the road within a few hours. Kindly let us and our senior black lab hang out in the waiting room.Friendly and efficient!

2020-10-06My nephews cars engine light has been coming on his Nissan Sentra and been difficult to diagnose. Vinnie got the codes and, based on the fact it seems to be an electrical issue, has advised him to have this issue resolved by Gils or McGregors because he knows they would find and correct the issue more efficiently and save money in the process. Thats a Friend you can trust!

2017-08-08NOT STAND UP ABOUT THESE GUYS..Buyer beware!!! this shop is a rip off!!! Initially was told I would be charged $95 an hour for labor. Car was leaking transmission oil. I was there less than an hour. Got a bill for $247.. But only 39.50 that was parts and transmission oil replacement... They also charged me a $95 diagnostic fee, that I was never told about until I received the bill. Mind you it took all of 10 minutes to figure out the problem... If youre woman driving a luxury car they will get you.. Corporate will not do anything about it... SHAME ON THEM.. I am filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau... STAY AWAY!!!AWFULLY TAKING ADVANTAGE OF..READ REVIEW FIRST...
