Excellent store with excellent employees. I do wish folks would start going to local fish stores over big-box pet stores for their fish needs so that they can start catering to more of the hobbyist needs. Having lots of customers leads to better and more varied product stocks, and I always find it curious to discover places like these where I might find the atypical.
The staff is wonderful and extremely knowledgeable and they always have a great variety of fish, corals, and inverts. Without a doubt my favorite aquarium store in CNY. Dont let them name fool you, they also have a great selection of beautiful freshwater fish.
I love this store. The staff is fun to talk to an informative, they know their stuff, they can do custom orders for me and get all the Exotic weird freshwater things that I like, and theyll actually call me and remember unlike some other places. Seriously these guys are the best and they deserve your business. Prices are very fair too.
Probably one of the best fish stores I have been to. The people that work here are just amazing and very knowledgeable. They take care off all their fish and are very helpful when I call to check what’s in stock. I’ll be back for some blue tetras and Amano shrimps as they are very healthy here. They also take plants and fish for store credit or to make a trade.
Small store but tanks were all clean, staff was great, display tanks on point and even quarantine tanks in the middle row of freshwater section. The staff was great, one of the few places that carries Fritz aquatics products.I even saw Congo Tetras fully grown which were so amazing, they will be my next addition to my 75 gallon planted tank with my Geo’s.
Best fish store in Syracuse and south. Well worth the drive from the 607.Fantastic selection of fresh and saltwater with many unusual specimens. Propagated corals and rare picks. Owners pick up in NYC regularly. Helpful staff that loves their hobby and wants to help you love it too, not just sell you a fish. Freshwater besides just fish, lots of inverts for both fresh and salt. Live rock and often prices that beat online. Defiantly best prices when you factor in shipping and actually picking out the one in front of you.
Best mix of salt and freshwater around. Clean tanks with knowledgeable staff. 4/5 stars because they still keep and sell bettas in one cup of water like amature walmart.

Always very helpful in making selections.I bought a pink sea cucumber and it died crashing my whole tank, but Bob was very fair and issued me credit for the fish that I purchased that day as well as the cucumber. These guys back their product, and know their stuff. Im a very happy customer, and plan on being one for years to come.Thank you for being such a great place to do business with!
We are new to the hobby, and did a lot of research or all local fish stores and felt very comfortable with what I found with ABC Reefs. So, we came in a gave it a chance. I came it the first time just with questions and concerns. The guy that helped me was very knowledgeable and very friendly. No sales pressure.The second time we came in, we purchased live rock and other needed items and gained a little more knowledges from a second guy. A couple weeks later, after some water testing we added livestock.Today we added some CUC, and another fish, yet again with a great experience. Your team of professionals is exactly that......professional. I highly recommend anyone to go to ABC Reef.
Got two fish, they died in 2 days due to a fungal disease which spread to - and killed my goldfish as well.
First trip through this place today, and WOW. Their selection of fish is incredible, including a lot that you wont find anywhere else around. Well kept tanks and healthy looking fish. The staff was wonderful and welcoming, as well as very knowledgeable. Its a little bit of a drive for me to get to, but I will absolutely be going again. I highly recommend visiting.
Very clean and well-organized. The staff are all knowledgeable and happy to offer good advice. They have some incredible corals and saltwater fish that I would not expect to see. Honestly I spend more time just admiring their setup than actually shopping.
When my family went in to talk about starting up a salt water tank, one of the workers was rude and standoffish. We ended up going to a different place got all the stuff for better prices we even went with a tank that held 15 more gallons for the same price they tried to sell one for. I will admit they do have alot cool fish there.
The store was pretty busy, as it seemed there were only two employees working, however they took their time with each customer and their needs, so it made the wait worth it. Great shopping experience as always.

We make the trek out with my 2 fish-loving daughters and was blown away by the clean and healthy displays, fish, and show quality corals. The free-standing octagon overflowing tank was a great centerpiece. There was a respectable selection of fresh-water fish and great bettas. The staff were very knowledgable and helpful.

Ive been going to this place for almost a decade I want to say. Over the years Ive seen the change in staff and have become familiar with some of them. Lately this store is such cheap. I went in the other day and was talking to Bob who I believe is the owner or manager; one of them. I kept thinking I smelled beer on his breath but thought I was crazy. When he was cashing me out there was a beer can on the back counter. Ive heard through the grapevine the kinds of drugs that go through this store. For years I recommended them to all of my friends. Ive had salt and fresh water tanks throughout the years but I will not be back to abc. To first hand witness this type of unprofessionalism with a beer can out in the open. Are you kidding me? They wont get another dime from me.
This store is by far thee best salt water selection in Syracuse area. Tim has thee best staff in Syracuse Bob Biel one of top aquarium hobbyist has the answers for almost every aquarium issue and if he doesnt know thee answer he will find it for you . I will recommend this store to all those who love fish salt and freshwater . We all come across issues and get by with a little help from our friends.
We decided to stop by and see what they had available for freshwater and cichlids. I found a beautiful peacock cichlid. The sales associate was nice but we felt kind of rough getting my fish out of the tank. The same went for getting some freshwater fish. I know some fish are a challenge when trying to retrieve them but handling them by hand after they are in the net isnt the best for the fish. Banging the rocks around in the cichlid tank aggressively wasnt good either. Maybe taking a rock or two out when retrieving the fish would be less stressful on the fish rather than dropping the rocks back and forth inside the tank. So far we have lost one of our small freshwater fish we purchased. We are experienced aquarium enthusiasts so we understand some times fish dont survive but being handled rough at time of purchase doesnt help.
ABC Reefs is the cleanest reef and fish store in CNY. Very healthy fish and corals. Staff is always pleasant and very helpful. Love this store! Once you experience this store it will be very hard to shop anywhere else.
The employees were very nice and seemed like they knew their fish facts, but the selection was small and a lot of the tanks seemed empty. Love the fish that we got from there though!
First impression was positive. Their fish looked healthy. Koi were on the expensive side for the size. I expect to return to have another look. Staff was friendly.
Awesome store! They have an exotic fish liscense so their selection is outrageous. If youre anywhere remotely close to Syracuse I would highly suggest it. Huge store with lots of viewing space. FW + SW

2022-02-22The guy working when I was there was very knowledgeable. In one five minute conversation, I learned exactly why some plants in my aquarium didn’t make it while others thrived. As soon as he explained why, it all made perfect sense. I recommend this store - big time.

2022-03-24Small local aquarium store. The puffer fish in the large tank in the front is adorable and begs for food. Staff is very knowledgeable and patient, while also being efficient and kind. Fish from this store tend not to die within days and infect your tank with heaven only knows what like most chain stores.

2022-06-26Only talked to one employee but he had no knowledge of pricing or even if they shipped. $70.00 for 160 gallons of salt. 30.00 more then online with free shipping from Amazon. Some tanks were decent.Very large Oscar in a small tank. wasn’t impressed.

2021-09-26Great people here that care about your system and theirs. The guy I’ve dealt with the couple of times I’ve been to ABC Reefs seems pretty knowledgeable in the taxonomy of the livestock. He was honest with me about potential pests on some corals because they had some coral eating nudibranchs, and even gave me a little cup of coral dip. I really appreciate the kind of service I’ve gotten here. They have a couple beautiful display tanks, makes acks aquatics look like a run down hole in the wall. I’d probably be there at least once a week if I didn’t live an hour away.

2021-02-28I went there looking to stock my freshwater aquarium, the staff was very friendly, patient, and knowledgeable. The particular employee who was helping me went above and beyond to give me accurate information and told me the truth, not just what I wanted to hear. My fish are very healthy and active as well. I would highly recommend them to anybody looking for either saltwater and freshwater fish.

2019-10-24I adore this place! My Husband and I stumbled upon this place years ago and now always make the trip up here to buy fish rather than pet stores near home. Prices are always really decent, tanks are always clean and fish are healthy. Weve always worked with the man who works here (Ive never caught his name, how rude of me) but he is always helpful and answers as many questions as possible. He is always happy to help and gives us great information on each fish we ask about. He helped us set up a very peaceful tank with lots of colorful fish. Love it! I always recommend this place to people who are looking for fish. We are never pressured into buying anything and they are very upfront about all the fish and their tank requirements so you dont get an expert level fish when just beginning your tank. While searching for the freshwater fish we want, we always end up wondering over to the salt water section which is impressive! If you want to go to a place with a wide selection of fish, this is a place to go!
