I wasnt a fan. And I know this is a Michelin starred place, so Im going to give a more thorough review, especially because the menu is likely to change each season.Food: either great or good, depending on what you order. Somewhere between 3 stars and 4 stars, with the pine nut cream (hummus adjacent) dish being a 5 star hit. Each item was between 20-40 dollars though, and were small plates. We left full, but we ended up spending about 100$ per person with drinks. We also liked the dosa (the one with chutneys) and the special, which was basically pasta with all the fancy stuff you could find on it (ramps, saffron, etc). It was good, but the special wasnt worth the 35$ price tag in terms of flavor. The dosa maybe, but not nearly enough of it at its price. Also, a lot more dip for the dishes than there was bread/pita/dosa/etc. AnnoyingDrinks: we didnt try the alcoholic drinks, but they have a crazy interesting menu of other drinks, such as milkshakes and vibrations (mood drinks). They also have homemade sodas. They were all interesting, in general though not worth the price. I enjoyed the blood orange jewel shake though. And the sodas are only 7 bucks so its not that bad. I wouldnt get the vibrations unless you are there for the mood altering piece of it.Atmosphere: fine. I really liked the pink shirt-white apron uniform of the staff, I just think that the place was a little less nice looking than its connected abc restaurant. When we sat down it felt like we were not super close to people, mostly because we werent, and that was nice. It didnt particularly have an interesting atmosphere or any interesting smells or other featuresStaff: good staff, overly helpful. The people bringing the food seem to be told constantly to ask if you can get them anything else, and Im pretty sure the servers are not allowed to tell you what they like, only what a dish is comprised of. Our server changed midway through but both were pretty good and knowledgeable.Dessert: pretty good. I got the sorbet, which was a sampling of 3 citrus sorbet flavors: a blood orange, a grapefruit, and another type of interesting citrus they said they were going to get back to me on what the term they said meant. It also came with what might be the best snicker doodles Ive ever had in my life. It did turn into a soup though so I didnt get to enjoy the sorbet as it was cold. Maybe they could chill the dishes?Overall: definitely 2 stars. Ive had more enjoyment from a late night dollar pizza than I had from this place, even if the food is higher quality and tastes more interesting. Im not sure if it was worth the atmosphere nor experience to spend 307 plus tip.If you are the type of person to have coworkers that say stuff like oh my god, its a new vegetarian place and its Michelin starred! And its vegetarian! And then they all say some instance of oh my goodness Ive always been meaning to try to eat more vegetarian things! I try to eat better all the time. Its so cool its a vegetarian place! then this is the perfect place for you. And I really mean that. You will enjoy it a lot.Oh, and by the way, tips are 25% minimum. Everywhere. No matter what. Okay? Aim for 35%.Everyone else... Go get some pizza.
As we we were only staying in NYC for 2 nights it was very important for us to find a restaurant with good vegetarian food. abcV certainly didnt disappoint!! The range of option on the food was excellent as were the drinks with the smoothies being a hit with us. The wood roasted rainbow carrots were enough to make me want to travel back across the Atlantic to taste them again!! The staff are friendly, attentive and really know the menu well. The only thing stopping a full five stars is that the acoustics are not great, so if you are looking for an intimate romantic meal it may not be perfect, but you certainly wont be disappointed.
Lovely ambiance, great service, liked their plates, silverware, coffee cup, enjoyed Dosa with sprouts, family had almond pancake, egg scramble and croissant, beet juice- everything was delicious and good portion sizes. Will defiantly recommend to family & friends visiting NY- our last brunch before we fly back home today so very happy
A mindful dining experience! Everything so fresh, botanical and artfully made from scratch. The atmosphere was modern and inviting. The service was flighty and inconsistent at times, but still more attentive compared to the average restaurant post-Covid. The Mezcal Maracuya was divine; like healing kisses all over the inside of my body, and left me smiling the rest of the evening. The poached pear chocolate mousse was designed with such expert precision; a perfect blend of textures and mild sweetness that was so decadent I couldnt think about anything else. The only disappointment was the mushroom bolognese. Bolognese should be a thick, protein-rich, generous sauce especially for such a formidable pasta like paccheri. This weird, vegan re-interpretation was weak, dry, unpleasantly and inappropriately spicy, and so scant I couldnt see or be certain what I was eating besides the pasta. Plus the portion so skimpy, I was still hungry after eating it which was not appreciated since the dinner was so expensive. Jean Georges; thicken the sauce with a protein-rich ingredient, or dont use paccheri, and take a cue from an Italian and just dont call it bolognese.
We were really excited to try this restaurant. Have seen and heard about it for some time. Neither of us are vegetarian but we went trusting the chef/organization to provide a top notch veg experience. To say we were disappointed is an understatement. The experience right from the beginning set the tone for the rest of the meal. The hostess literally showed us our table its over there then walked away. No menus were given; well cause it is 2021. We get on our phones and get the digital menu. About 10 mins later our paper menus were handed to us.....shouldnt this have been done at the seating? We sat at our table 5:04, our server finally recognized that were were sitting there at a out 5:15 and we ordered drinks which finally arrived at 5:36. Seems to me, for profit, tips and diners enjoyment the more drinks the better. When you start off waiting 30 mins to get a drink that doesnt happen. So the service was poor, lets chat about the food.Dates with coconut yogurt: I will admit that this was really good, however when the server describes the menu as family style meant to share and the price is $12 we were expecting more than 4 datesCrunchy Corn Fritter w/Australian Winter Truffles: Truffle fritters? The Australian winter truffle had zero truffle flavor at best they were MUSHROOMS. In order to make sure we took mounds of truffle and ate them alone to see if the flavor was getting lost. Spoiler, it was not. The fritter with or without the truffle tasted only of fried oil, absolutely no corn flavor and didnt even have a good comfort food mouth feel. The aioli was the perfect accompaniment to this dish as it too had no flavor. We were told that this was a new addition to the menu after it was a popular special. I wonder if anyone ever ordered a second batch of these? At $39 for them I felt like I get mugged on the subway.Wood Roasted Beets: were the highlight of the meal. The presentation was gorgeous (see pic but I removed half before taking the pic). The sauces were well balanced and complimentary to each other and the crispy curry leafs were a nice touch. We decided against dessert given the experience we had in the main meal and instead went to Van Lueeven for some vegan ice cream. That was a good call!
Very #zen inside, and super chill if that is the vibe you are looking for.Green hummus was very pleasant and refreshing - good dish for the start.Highly recommend the dosa appetizer for dinner - it was so fun to eat and tasty with everything combined in the dosa.Cauliflower was good but one could argue a bit overrated.
AbcV is a Vegetarian place with health conscious options - not to take away from the delicious food they serve! I was very impressed with all the accommodations and substitutions the restaurant was able to make. Have plans to come back and check out their sister restaurant abc
Food is absolutely spectacular but their staff could definitely use more training…especially if they are representing a Jean-George establishment. My husband and I went there to celebrate our anniversary and the experience was disappointing. Our drinks were served 20 mins apart, we had to ask for a fork 3 times before it was finally brought over and our “happy anniversary” dessert was served to the wrong table (even after the people at the table told him it was not theirs!). To complete the experience, they charged us for an incorrect meal on our check. Quite a shame for a restaurant with such great food!
Wow - this place is phenomenal. I’ve been vegetarian for over a decade, so I definitely have made my way to many vegetarian spots, particularly in NYC, but every meal at abcV stands out.On my recent visit, split 4 dishes for 2 people with some rose. I have had the cocktails before as well, and they’ve always been great. We got the hummus, cauliflower, maitake, and lentil dishes - all of which I recommend. Everything tasted phenomenal and was super unique. We also LOVED the service! Incredible staff.Lastly, we dined outdoors and it was super nice. The restaurant has decorated the sidewalk with lighting, and the particular block on which abcV is located was closed. Therefore, it was cute and relatively quiet for NYC to be dining outdoors! I also felt very safe; the entire staff kept their masks on and several COVID precautions were in place.Highly recommend!!!
I cannot say enough good things about this restaurant. Everything was amazing! Our server was Sadie and she was next level! Knew the menu and ingredients back to front and her recommendations were spot on! From appetizers to entrees to cocktails. Absolutely the best vegetarian restaurant experience I’ve ever had.
Amazing vegetarian food place! They have a wide variety of choices with some really delectable ones like California dates, spicy cabbage, and the signature Roasted Cauliflower. We were helped by Stephanie and she knew exactly how many dishes we should order and what to order!!Definitely going back!!!
Super stylish digs with a wonderful variety of food. We got the coconut yogurt and tahini dates (pictured), beluga lentils in chili oil (pictured), and the mushroom walnut bolognese. I was unable to get photos of the mushroom walnut bolognese as it was gone before I had the thought to grab a photo- it was that delicious tasting and looking!
If you’re coming here with the expectation of eating fuller meals, this may not be the place for you. Compared to other vegan restaurants, the portions sizes are smaller and a bit costly. However, the food is delicious and the ambiance is spectacular. Two dishes, dessert and coffee came out to roughly $100 so definitely a bit on the pricey side.
Fantastic food! My girlfriend Andrea and I did outdoor dining there today and it was really awesome food. See pictures below but their mushroom dish with the black tahini was to die for. Also, mushroom Bolognese made me feel like I was still enjoying beef before I gave it up. We did have to wait for our table since the previous party was taking their sweet time. However, Nathan their GM bought us the first round without us even saying a word! Would go there again, thanks guys!
Ive been here a few times - alone, with friends, on a date, etc. and the food is always fresh and DIVINE! You leave here feeling quite virtuous with a very happy tummy from eating all those lovely veggies. Their bloody mary is also BOMB.Removed one star because the portions are very small and definitely on the pricier end. Luckily, its centrally located so you can go grab a hot dog after!
Food is outstanding, and while the decor and inside seating adds to the overall experience, this time we sat outside and the food was still exceptional. Obviously the whole roasted cauliflower is a must. But Ive not had anything on the menu that isnt incredibly delicious.
The restaurant is nicely decorated & the staff very accommodating. I came for lunch & found the menu lacking. Our server suggested we get a total of 3 dishes & share. Unfortunately I found the selections very ordinary especially for the high costs of the food. I got a hemp burger with a few potatoes & slices of an unidentifiable vegetable for $27. As a vegetarian/vegan I wanted to try this restaurant. I found the atmosphere & service their saving grace.
The restaurant was very pretty and our waitress was friendly and efficient. The special of the night - asparagus and mushroom with a spicy vegetarian oyster sauce was actually very good. The dosa was light and crispy, but the yogurt sauce was a little flavorless. The mushroom bolognese was also tasty and woody. Overall, would highly recommend.
Slightly disappointed. We ordered the same thing , the griddle cakes and one was dry and other was not and one was larger than the other. They didnt come with a side of maple syrup but table next to us didnt ask and eas given a side of maple syrup. Waiters were not too friendly . Its a nice place and probably very good of they are on form but not today and its too expensive to not be perfect.
Before I rave about the food, I must talk about the superb service my fiancé and I had. We were running very late and they found a way to accommodated us! First, they sat us at the bar and told us when a table became available they would seat us. Ten minutes later, they sat us at a table! Then, they gave us a complimentary dessert ( which was delicious). Now, let’s talk about the food. It was DELICIOUS! I had the dosa, wood fired cauliflower, and beluga lentils. It was very flavorful and perfectly cooked. Everything tasted great! I would definitely go back.
Definitely one of my favourite vegan restaurants!! Everything was very very tasty and the cauliflower was mind blowing. The table next to us were not so happy with their desserts (we were about to order the same ones) so we ordered different ones and they were better. The atmosphere were much better then expected from seeing pictures
Wow this place has so many people on staff, yet not one does anything. They walk in circles around the tables and stand in a group behind the curtain chatting it up. Service is so slow here. Person taking the order doesn’t show for 30 minutes. And when we said something they noticeably got aggitated. Food is okay but I feel like they purposefully cooked it even slower when we said something. Find somewhere else to eat unless you got 2 hours to sit waiting around.
The food is good but, hardly as good as other reviewers say - honestly, it did not live up to the hype. The cauliflower was over cooked, mushy and surrounded by some burnt olives, the mushroom dish had too much vinegar in the potato salad, and the pasta dish with walnuts was, well on the bland side. The service was good, the ambiance is great but the food needs to catch-up to both otherwise, this vegetarian restaurant will need to start serving steak to survive.
Cool vegetarian restaurant with stylish modern settings. Fried oyster mushrooms with black sesame honey sauce was on point. Mushroom bolognese pasta was also great and doesn’t taste like meatless. Food portions are small and meant to be sharable, so we ordered 7 dishes for three of us, which was enough and we still had room for desserts.
Wow! A great restaurant for vegetarians and non-vegetarians! The service, atmosphere and food is all excellent! The chefs keep inventing new ways to combine vegetables to create great tasting healthy menu items. The drinks are just as good. Worth a visit to taste the culinary delights found here.
Very friendly service. airy very white space. nice ceramic dishes though some of the plates had very visible broken chips. pricey dishes but quality was very good, very fresh. tastes in general were good though some were just ok. mushroom bolognese, pea hummus were the star. for others the cauliflower, matcha brulee and choco cake were top. if vegan, make sure to ask which are not as some had honey. juices, tonics and shakes were all excellent.
At first, all vegan food might sound boring but this place completely turns that perception around. It was really interesting how all the dishes had different flavors and textures. Slow roasted beets had a nice sweet flavor with a hint of sourness and the dosa with avocado and yogurt had a smoky flavor to it. Toasted cauliflower was one of my favorites as it almost reminded me of eating a nice steak. Awesome staffs and nice decors are a bonus and I would definitely recommend trying this place out if youre in NYC
I would give it half or less star if I could. Ridiculously small portion sizes for ridiculous prices, even for NYC. Looks like some menu items were just made up in the name of vegan diet by tweaking original ethnic cuisines (examples - dosa, lentil, etc.). Will not go there again for sure.
Food is good and flavorful but waiter didn’t bother to explain the menu and never said how small was everything, they offered a truffle fettuccine for $65 very small and truffle was horrible, when we asked waiters questions about the place they never had any information and he will say: I don’t know. How on earth they charge those price without training staff, we won’t be back.
This was, by far, one of the top 10 meals of my life. Since going vegetarian, it has been challenging at times to find veggies done right. This place hits the nail on the head perfectly! EVERYTHING was delicious but the mushrooms were the best single dish Ive had in a very very long time. The service was exceptional! The dishes were perfectly sized to share a few between friends, tapas style.
Jean-Georges has done it again, I love everything on this menu! Absolutely fantastic food, you dont even realize its vegan. The restaurant itself is lovely and has the most beautiful art pieces everywhere. The food is absolutely delicious, you feel healthy coming out of this restaurant. @traveleen_gurl
I never really enjoyed vegetarian food and don’t love eating vegetables but this place makes vegetarian food soooo delicious. The food were not only beautiful (Instagram worthy) but tastes fantastic and out of this world. Each dish had so many different flavor and texture in it that every bite tastes a little better. #notSponsoredWe ordered the following:1. Green pea hummus - really flavorful, doesn’t taste “green” (you know, vegetable-like) with a hint of lemon/lime. The pita that comes with it was very well baked too.2. Slow roasted beets - it was so fresh and sweet but a little sour at the same time. This is my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE dish3. Cauliflower - it had some curry (I think) sauce that came with it. This was my least favorite4. Mushroom bagatelle - the pasta was cooked al-Dante and tasted excellent. The mushroom taste wasn’t too over powering and the texture of the pasta made even better.5. Pollen+ smoothie - it was a great, healthy (I would like to believe) drink. If you love peanut butter ice cream smoothies , this is it.6. Coconut pana cotta - JUST SO GOOD. That’s all I got to say.The waitress was really nice and attentive. She gave really good recommendation. Would love to give her a shoutout but forgot her name :(
Food is a winner here. Comes in small sharing portions of delightful flavours. It looks good and tastes good. Loved the green pea hummus, roasted cauliflower and the coconut custard+saffron oat milk combo. Cocktails are inventive and I would recommend them over your usual order of wine.Prices are steep and you can expect to spend 150-200$ for a couple. ‘Worth it’ or not, this place is a welcome addition to the NYC food scene
Such an impressive plant-based menu! We get the roasted cauliflower every time. Cocktails are also yummy with refreshing flavors. Restaurant is able to accommodate large parties, but it tends to get loud. All dining ware is available for purchase at the furniture store next door (ABC Home)
Interesting vegan food plated artistically with the kind of affected service you might expect. The dishes are tapas style and the portions are quite dainty. Everything was tasty, my favorite were the lentils with sweet potato and black vinegar. As an omnivore, I could have been satisfied with the flavors of this delicious menu, but the small plates left me wanting more!
Every time I am back to New York, I go to abcv and my taste bugs are impatiently dreaming of eating the healthy and divine food they serve. Breakfast, lunch or dinner my mind refuses to go anywhere else in NYC. The personnel at this restaurant consists of the sweetest individuals and I wish I could hug each of them for their hard and diligent work😋 thank you for much. So be ready for this place to steal your heart and soul. (For dinner time, I suggest you to reserve a table beforehand).
It’s easy to write off vegetarian or vegan fare as bland mush, but this place subverts those expectations. All dishes are flavorful, simple yet intricate, and pays respect to original ingredients. I didn’t miss meat, but I don’t know why the portion sizes are so teeny.Service is friendly and efficient, with all the food coming out right on time. The only problem with the food was since lettuce avocado cups were prepared in advance, letter became watery. But overall, a great dining experience.
Fantastic experience from the hostess and wait staff to the food. The concept is done really well with a laid back relaxed environment. The food is truly the star with beautifully prepared dishes that look so stunning you almost dont want to try them. I enjoyed the apple, celery root, kohlrabi, white miso dressing, black miso walnuts to start. This dish threw me a little as it tasted sweeter than expected which ended up pairing beautifully with the Roasted Cauliflower dish that some of the other reviewers rave about. The third dish I had was the applewood smoked butter beans, now that was an amazing dish. The description does not do it justice, the fried capers and mushrooms were incredibly tasty and the entire dish has to be enjoyed with a little bit of everything on the plate. Wonderful job, I will be back to try more dishes when travels permit!
The food here is overall delicious, with plants placed at the front and center. Small plates with some powerful, complex herbacious flavors focusing on fresh produce. We really enjoyed the tofu in green curried broth and the cauliflower, and disliked the cold roasted beets as it was too heavy handed on salt. The service is what brought down my review from a four to a three star. The waitor did not explain how much to order, did not introduce herself by name, and never checked up on us to see how things were. My partner and I were celebrating a special occasion and we made note of it in our reservation. To our disappointment, it was never acknowledged. Id recommend for the restaurant to think not only about food and flavor profile, but to also care more about customer experience.
Whether you are a vegetarian or not you’ll love this place! Such a wonderful place to visit with awesome food and lovely vibes. Definitely make a reservation or not you’ll be seated in a high-top seating area which is not that pleasant haha! Anyways, except that it’s bit pricey, I love this place. It’s my go-to with friends who are visiting the city. Cauliflower, pasta, mushroom, everything was on point! The interior is so lovely!!
Had a 9:15 reservation for the patio, and when we arrived, they said they only had indoor tables available. We could see outdoor tables available, so we asked to be seated outside, and the hostess said they just needed to set a table up and asked us to wait outdoors. After waiting 20 minutes, we were taken to a table with no heat lamp despite there being 2 tables with heat lamps open (it was 45 degrees out). We asked if we could be seated at a heated table and she said they were owned by the sister restaurant next door (ABC Cocina) and she couldn’t seat us there but could call next door and see if they had availability (they obviously did) as they served both vegan food from ABCv as well as omnivorous food. When she never came back, we walked next door to ABC Cocina, where they seated us immediately at the table directly next to ABCv. We then ordered exclusively from ABCv’s menu and the food came out from the ABCv door. I’m not sure why the ownership doesn’t allow the outdoor tables to be shared between these sister restaurants, especially when we had a patio reservation and it was so close to closing that the tables obviously weren’t going to be used. Poor management on the part of the owner. The hostess and staff were obviously overworked as well as it took them 30 minutes to finally sort out our seating (and we ended up just sorting it out ourselves). Although the food we received was pretty good (will be rating it through ABC Cocina), I won’t be returning as the prices are too high for the level of service we received and the food wasn’t good enough to make up for poor service.
If I could give this place any more stars, I would. Appreciate the idea of a vegetarian restaurant encouraging a shift towards plant based diet. Eclectic menu, delicious food and great drinks in modern, chic interiors. Highly recommend the Dosa with egg and sambal. The Tomato Chutney Sauce was one of the best I’ve ever had. (Am an Indian, so that’s quite a loaded statement.) Definitely lives up to the Jean Georges name.
Very good dinner with inventive, playful, and flavorful fine-dining vegetarian fare. There were a few standout dishes, like the smoky tandoori white yam and the little gems. The special of the day, white asparagus, was soft, stringy, and soggy, and ended up being the weakest item we ordered (pictured). The cocktails were excellent (I greatly enjoyed the mezcal maracuyá). Staff overall nice, but was pushy towards the end, despite us being well within our allotted time at the table and eating at a reasonable pace.
I’m so obsessed with this restaurant. I eat an omnivore diet but still incredibly happy with the fantastic options. It’s middle-tier NYC priced, 95 for a couple without alcohol. We had the hummus, squash 🍄 pasta and some bean soup. The 🍄 pasta was very mediocre. The rest were insane
The food quality and service are good but the price is still very expensive. The tables are very close together, like cafes and bistros in Paris, so everyone needs to speak loudly here. The inside was like a flood of conversation and was very noisy. Its hard just to stand up to go to the restroom.
Absolutely delicious!! My favorite restaurant in New York so far. Vegetables are the centre of the dishes. Its great to eat something healthy in a city that is so full of fast food. Very comfortable restaurant, amazing interior design. A lot of staff that are super friendly and accommodating. It gets busy so reservations are recommended. Fancy, clean and beautiful spot with dishes and flavors that are just heavenly.
This possibly is in my mind one of the best food I have ever had at a restaurant. I had the slow toasted beets which was the best alternative take at eating good old beets. I had the wood burned shitake mushroom for entree and it was delightful flavorful while soothing. Ended the meal with a golden milk soft serve. Again very good. Great service and staff to. I will be there Everytime I am in NY. Was in such hurry to eat the entree.. Forgot to click the fully plated serving :)
What an experience. Speaking as a non-vegan, I only came here to support my vegan friend. I came in with high expectations, especially given it is associated with Jean-Georges.Environment: This restaurant has really cute decor, as if its straight out of a bumble gum pop music video. The lightness of the walls makes this place feel welcoming from the start. The cool plates and table utensils add character to the restaurant.Food: I had the dosa with Swiss chard, fried egg, and zaatar along with the sweet potato brunch bowl and the green chickpea hummus (obviously I didnt have it all by myself, I have a figure to watch!). Overall, the brunch bowl and the hummus were excellent. It was very savory, and i felt healthy eating it. On the other hand, the dosa wasnt really that great. I felt the fried egg didnt mix in well with the zaatar, and it kind of tasted worse as time went on.Price: 5/5. For a brunch place, its pretty much in-line with all the other restaurants out there. However, the quality is much higher and I would say the value is out of this world. All in all, I had a really good time here. I never thought I would have enjoyed a vegan meal, but here I am, dumbstruck. While I maybe ordered the wrong thing with the dosa, the other two dishes definitely brought enough to the table that I will gladly go back
Great seasonal and vegetable-forward menu, actually vegetarian rather than vegan - but they will be able to make most menu items vegan. The service was attentive but maybe a bit chaotic and fussy (many people coming to take similar orders at similar time). The setting is nice but lacking in warmth (everything is white!). I would come back but wish they could modernize the vibe a little bit.
Great food, though some dishes stood out: the Dosa and Walnut Bolognese. The Assam pomegranate iced tea was weaker than expected, but the elderberry soda was potent and amazing. On the whole, the dishes were strong on the acid (lemon juice, etc.). The seating is a little tight and our dishes had to come in batches since the table wouldnt fit all of the dishes all at once.
Excellent vegetarian twist to abc kitchen with deep and incredible flavor but small portions for the price and inconsistent service. Try the spaghetti, pea crudite, soft tofu and the dosa for dinner. For brunch, the fried wild rice and gf almond pancakes are delicious! However service can be very slow, especially during brunch and some menu descriptions are misleading (vegan pancakes comes with quince not fig and no fresh rasberries).
I don’t even have the adequate words to describe how good the food is! Abcv just nudged Nix out of the number 1 spot for me for upscale vegan/vegetarian food in nyc. You can order 2-3 items per person but depending on what you get you may be really full. Everything tastes super fresh and the menu is exciting. Lots of bright flavors like citrus that surprise you. The service is amazing. It’s a busy place and there’s usually a wait but the staff are knowledgeable, attentive, and accommodating. My pics had to be taken quick before people dug in so they don’t even do the food justice.
The retro chic, upscale vibe makes for a fun environment. It is usually crowded and this place is LOUD on a Sunday morning. It was nearly impossible to have a conversation with my wife sitting 2 feet in front of me, so I do not recommend this for catching up with friends. The food was a bit disappointing. We love trying new places that offer vegan brunch and the descriptions on the menu sounded inventive. Every dish we had was off-balanced -- too much salt, oil, too little vegetables -- for salads they were heavy but not too flavorful or satisfying. We saw a table next to us with the same main dish and theirs had way more vegetables, so I dont know if we ordered wrong or it was an off morning as it was soon after they officially opened. I would not recommend this place for a healthy casual brunch but it might be ok for a boisterous group. I definitely recommend sticking to basics on the menu like the bowls or pancakes, they looked much better. We left hungry and feeling like we paid too much. I would try again after a few months, perhaps the kitchen kinks will get ironed out.
The making of the food is really amazing just like an art made to perfection!Portion: Too less for what you wuld generally expect.Price: Too much for too less portion.Ambiance: Neat and white. Highly recommend getting seated next to the high chair to see the way the food is being presented.Overall experience: A one time visit (only if its in your checklist)
Holy forking shirtballs this place is killer. Came for brunch and almost cried from the tasty.-sambal dosa with huevo-wild mushrooms and poachers-almond flour pancakesEverything was prepared perfectly. Worth it. Can’t wait to come back. The menu is a little extra but be patient and ask questions and trust the process.
Experimental Vegetarians will love it ! Very yummy it’s not about more flavours or ingredients but about using the few just right;) It’s beautiful food! The portions are in the smaller side would recommend 2 or more corses . Cocktails are great too I really liked the Persian Noir best
One of the best meals Ive had in NYC! The menu does not cease to surprise you, course after course! The Avocado Lettuce Cups and the whole roasted Celery Root were two of the most amazing dishes Ive ever had. The cauliflower served with turmeric tahini is also fantastic and the wok fried ramen noodles finished things up nicely. Just under 2 dishes a person, is the perfect average. The turmeric elixir was also highly refreshing. Expect the meal to set you back around $60 a person, inclusive of taxes and tips but it will be the best $60 youve spent at a restaurant.
Its a veggie paradiseYou HAVE to try the cauliflower, its by far the best dish, get a whole one 👌🏼Wasnt impressed with the spinach spaghetti, loved the carrots and the pumpkin.Good cold pressed juices and teas. For desert go for the macha pudding 🤤Service and food is awesome, so you pay for it. Its about 45$ per person on average
A surprisingly inspired vegetarian/vegan tapas restaurant. There are a variety of flavours and a genuine effort to explore flavours beyond vinaigrettes. The drinks are very nice! I would have loved for some things to be a few dollars cheaper; I think the markup is there just because they can.
My Husband Booked us for My Birthday Dinner at AbcV. Our continued travels has given us the experience of high end chiefs in Spain & Italy who have been able to knock it out of ball park for our plant based palette. Abcv brings me to tears doing just that for us trying to live a plant based lifestyle here at home. It has been a struggle living in New Jersey, but grateful to be close to New York and finding places that have this quality. Jean George, we love you for the passion you bring and for encouraging other chiefs to start taking us high end plant based lovers seriously. The flavoring you have brought to your dishes are unforgettable and encouraging me to continue to grow as someone that wants to be creative at home. For those of you that are not plant based, it’s so worth the experience. I highly suggest to start with the “Avocado Lettuce Cups, they set your brain on fire and leave you wanting more. I would also recommend to save this one hell of a spaghetti dish for last. Here’s a little tid-bit, I’ve never liked mushrooms, go figure because this “Mushroom Walnut Bolognese”, had me dancing around in my head filled with joy, it’s the only way I could ever enjoy mushrooms...lol! It’s a shame I didn’t get a photo and they don’t show it on their web page, expect nothing less then a super great night at ABCV!
Went here for a friend s birthday dinner. the food was pretty good but the overall service and delivery of service DID NOT reflect the quality and price. after ordering drinks, appetizers, and entrees, our table waited 20 minutes for a few drinks. the entrees took another 15-20 minute after the drinks. the most ridiculous thing was that out of 10 people, one person did not get her entree until everyone else had already finished their entrees (which was about 30 minutes after). two people waited 20 minutes after they finished their entrees to be served their drinks. one person ordered coconut water but when asked about how the coconut water was made, the server was clueless (we asked cuz the coconut water didnt taste like coconut!!!!!). finally, when i asked for the check, we got charged for twice the amount of drinks that we ordered. the server did not apologize or show any signs of sympathy and fault. i asked to talk to a manager to directly solve the root of the problem but that didnt happen. i sincerely did not like this place at all. I would not come back to this place, especially because the price clearly does not match the level of service that was expected. the servers did not seem properly trained at all, and in my opinion as a hospitality student, they dont know how to provide and deliver the level of quality hospitality.
The ambiance is super welcoming and relaxing. The food is very delicious. Shoutout to Hilary for being such a sweet delightful person and, enhancing the overall dining experience by explaining where the ingredients were sourced from along with other fun food facts!!! The entire staff was very accommodating to my allergies and was sure to fill me in on alternative preparation options. Management is amazing. Thanks for making this a memorable first visit. Ill definitely be returning again sometime :)
I loved everything about this restaurantHad a coconut latte, the steamed tofu with harissa, forbidden rice and congee, gluten free pancakes ( my favorite !!!)The place is beautiful, the staff is so friendly and present, dishes are so finely selected. My favortie breakfast place from now on!
One of the best meals our family has had in New York City, vegan or not. We especially enjoyed their battered maitake and angel hair pasta. They serve dishes family style and have everyone share the food, unfortunately they don’t give you clean dishes between entrees and appetizers so you have to ask for them. All that said, highly recommend abcV if you’re ever looking to treat yourself to a night of incredible food with friends and/or family.
Highly recommended. If youre a vegetarian/vegan visiting NYC, I would be sure to make a trip to abcv.We were there for breakfast; pretty pricey, and smaller portion sizes, would say it was a reasonable for a light breakfast -- but the food was among the best we had in NYC.Both the egg dish and the pancakes were phenomenal. Tonics were also very tasty with interesting flavour combinations.
What flavors! Definitely one of the best places in terms of nuanced flavors. We went here for brunch. Had the mushrooms with poached eggs and the almond pancakes. Both were really good. Definitely order these juices that are at the bottom of the menu. Very very different. Great for rejuvenation.
Excellent brunch place. Food options are healthy and beautiful. Ambiance is clean and minimal, with still a bit of quirky charm. A great spot for brunch with the girlfriends on the weekend or a breakfast meeting during the week. Suggest getting reservations if going on the weekend
Hummus was lovely, fried maitake was also very delicious. We also tried the cauliflower with all those delicious sauces. It was wonderful. Drinks are well balanced and strong. Chocolate mousse was wonderful but the chocolate creme was too heavy for me but overall delicious.
My favorite vegetarian restaurant, hands down. Everything and I mean, EVERYTHING, is perfect about Abcv. Two words to describe the place is - fine balance. It is the fine balance when it comes to the ambience, the service and food. The atmosphere is so clean, so chic, and so warm. I love how easy, functional and elegant this place is without overdoing it.The service is the same as the atmosphere. The servers are knowledgeable about the menu, have great suggestions and positively helpful. Nothing is too much or too little, its just right. The food is absolutely delicious, simple and the flavors of the ingredients shine. I love their turmeric elixir (drink) and their lettuce wraps. You must get these 2 menu items if you dont get anything else! You must! There is something for everyone and all will be great choices.Abcv is a very instagram-able restaurant with great food. Often times those two dont go hand in hand but Abcv is the best mix of the two.Go on, try this restaurant and you wont be disappointed. Guaranteed.
If youre a hipster or bougie rich New Yorker, or someone who is obsessed with what others think of you, youll fit right in. You may also like this place if you have the appetite of a mouse or if youre on a diet. You wont like this place if you like the charm of a restaurant or feeling remotely satisfied. The middle rows were cool wooden tables and they served with vintage utensils, my spoon had old food stuck to it, but Im not counting that in my rating since dirty things just slip sometimes. The tables on the edge were a retro white hospital table. Basically, the portions were just so small, Ive never craved meat more in my life. My dosa was 15 for a cracker with butter and some avocado and my boyfriends eggs were literally just 2 overeasy eggs and we added dry rye bread for 5. The service was great, the food... meh.
Truly outstanding, creative vegan food, done up in a lovely atmosphere. Everything we had was stellar, especially the roasted cauliflower. Awesome seasoning, great texture. Very high priced, and service is a bit green and under-confident. Overall, no complaints, and we will be back
I would 100% come back to eat at abcV. Make sure to reserve a table ahead of time because it does get busy especially on the weekends. The restaurant environment is very trendy and hipster. My only suggestion is to put vacant/occupied markers on the bathroom so customers know for sure if someone is in there.
The food was impeccable, all of the flavor combinations they used were just right. It is a little pricier for portion size but considering the quality my partner and I cannot complain. We ordered 3 dishes and were plenty comfortable by the end. Will certainly be coming back. Also shout out to our server Tate, he was very kind !
I very much wanted to love this place. However, I let the server know that I have an allergy to a chemical inside of all spicy foods and let her know even the mildest spiciness can trigger a reaction(due to muscular dystophy), I told her that basically anything hotter than regular black pepper was off the table for me, she said that is fine and named two things off the menu which were the only things with absolutely nothing spicy in them I went ahead and ordered from her suggestion, she said she would let the chef know about my allergy, and when it came out the sauce it was in was in fact spicy, so I was not able to eat the meal and ended up having to get something else my husband finished his food.
Best to make reservations way ahead of time. Not many areas around the bar to sit on a first come first serve basis. Food was great and came out pretty fast after ordering. Waitress was awesome and made sure to check up on us ever so often. Only issue I had was when it came to ordering drinks they would sometimes forget about it and it never came so we had to request it again. Otherwise it was a good experience.
I hate this place! Please stop making food so tasty, the wife wants to leave me and marry your chef😂In all honesty, the food is excellent - it reminded both of us of our experiences in South India growing up eating in temples and at home. The dosa is apparently as good as from Bangalore, its birthplace. The egg plant tacos were creative and delicious. The coconut rice and beet entree was subliminal. The vegan chocolate mousse is just the right balance between decadence and subtlety.Taking one star away because the service was a bit questionable at times with rice arriving well after all the entrees.
Service was friendly. The food is insanely overpriced! Offering focaccia for 16$, which is just sourdough bread with nothing special was just the beginning of the disappointment. We ordered several different dishes to have a variety and one of them was extremely salty without any taste. The other dishes were pretty boring.
My friend took me here to celebrate dinner. It’s become my all time favorite restaurant. I don’t know if it’s the food endorphins. The food, the service, the atmosphere. Everything so perfect. We sat at the bar. Tables are reservations only but the bar is first come first serve.Sit at the bar if it’s just 2 dining. It’s easy, interactive and fast service. We ordered: half cauliflower, the plain dosa, and chocolate mousse. This was more than enough for two people. We also ordered the lentil bolognese and eggplant but had to cancel because the dosa will make you full. The cauliflower is heavenly. Don’t order the full head because you will get full quickly. The dill and pistachios and the pomegranate. I didn’t expect to love this so much. The dosa, how did they get it so perfectly crispy? The sprouts and the yogurt dance in your mouth. The mousse is made of so things we don’t pay attention to and makes this dessert low calorie and so heavenly.
Pricey (though not that pricey for the neighborhood) but worth it. Cherry chocolate layer cake is incredible. Portion sizes are perfect: filling but not overwhelming. Go with someone youre comfortable sharing with so you can try a bunch of dishes. Much of the menu is already vegan, but I believe everything can be made vegan.
Excellent, fresh, unique food. Very small portions. Definitely a place you come to eat for the experience and the flavors, not for filling up.Wonderful service! We arrived early, so they sat us at the bar, where the bartender was very friendly and nice. They were great about seating us afterwards, and our waiter was attentive. The cauliflower is amazing, the asparagus was a lot smaller than expected, but tasty (and spicy), and the crunchy saison battered maitake was alright. The maitake was almost too much. It was yummy initially but hard to finish. The rhubarb milk punch was just about the best drink I have ever had.
Good for a vegan option in NYC, which is why I’m giving 4/5 stars. But not good overall. I’ve had better lentils on a United flight. Like airplane food. I paid 25 dollars for lentils. Given that fact, I should have made this 1/5 stars. But it tastes good, and the vegan selection in the city is small (in my humble opinion). So, relative to nyc vegan options, it’s 4/5 stars for taste. If you consider price, I’d say 2/5.
Luv luv luvAs a non-vegan, I doubted first. How good can it be without meat? Especially with $$$ pretty pricy price range. This restaurant was whole newwww world for me. I took a lot of my friends here and they all love this place. Avocado lettuce wrap is must try for sure.
This was an awful lunch. I have eaten many vegan meals in New York City and in Paris. The prices in this restaurant and the general level of ambiance are not in any way an indication of quality. Way too much salt! Insanely salty and the spice level too high. After informing our waiter that we can’t eat hot spicy food, he didn’t bother to inform us that everything we ordered was hot and overly spiced. The balance of flavors was bad, poor use of vinegars, lousy crudités in hoummous appetizer, the hoummous itself inedible and tasted lousy…shockingly so, we sent it back. This is not good vegan food! Could have been excellent but just ridiculously salty and inept use of flavors, the dosa too thick and sparsely filled. Stay away…better vegan food in the East Village or your own kitchen. And….after expressing how we felt, no manager came to the table…they just handed us the dessert menu and tried to make more money.
We went there for dinner. The food was good but a bit overpriced. The service was really slow, and we sometimes had to remind the waiters to bring us our drinks. The place is very loud and has a pretentious vibe (I usually wouldnt mind, but then you better have excellent service). But as I said earlier, the food is actually good and several dishes are very creative.
Great experience. All of the dishes were phenomenal (and Im a very meat-centric person). My favorite were the deep fried mushrooms! Went with a party of 3, waitress recommended we get 6 plates and we were very very full. At first you think it wont be enough but as you eat and courses come you realize youre eating a lot haha! I just thought it was very pricey (more than we were expecting)--if youre not trying to spend much, this is definitely a place to avoid.
I wanted to like this place. Went with two friends, one who is vegetarian. We ordered eight dishes and cocktails. The cocktails were the highlight. A couple of the dishes - green hummus & roasted beets - were quite good. A couple were quite disappointing - the chicken of the woods (turns out the pieces were very differently tender) and the roasted eggplant. And the rest were simply okay. The service was very good. The atmosphere became pretty loud towards the end of the meal and it was difficult to have a conversation.
WOW! My husband and I had dinner here last night and every detail from the food, to the mocktails, the service, & attention to detail was beyond what was expected. It was our anniversary and they even threw in a treat at the end of our course. BTW I am not even Vegan, but I’m now considering it because there is no way meat could ever taste better than anything I ate at abcV.
The first time I came here it was a 5+ star experience. This time, while the food was excellent, the service was lackluster. In the big picture, its all just little things but given the price point, expectations are higher. 1. Sister restaurant ABC Cocina has outdoor heat lamps, but this place does not. 2. We were served our order before getting place settings, so our food was left on our table to get cold before we could begin eating. 3. Our waitress did not seem to be bothered by the fact that she didnt put our entire order in, so we got our appetizer after we finished our main brunch. Hope next time it will be better.
Walk into this restaurant and fall in love with vegetables. Sincerely. Everything is so great. I crave their dosa. It is so fresh and light and delicious. The warm golden saffron milk is dreamy. The tamarind yam is my jaaaaam. Yum. The only thing to note, which is why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5, is that for the past 4 times Ive made reservations I had to wait 20+ minutes for my table. Its not the biggest deal given that NYC is so busy now that every thing is opening up again, and the food at abc v is exceptional and well worth the wait. It is good to know though because I wouldnt schedule work dinners here, as the timing of your reservation and when you will be seated is unreliable in my experience.
Amazing food. Service can use some improvement.Just was a bit disappointed that the waitress almost forced us into taking a third dish just cause their portions are small. I would rather have us decide based on the first two we order and the taste. Making a suggestion is good but standing there saying we “recommend” taking a third dish and not going away even after I said can we do it after we had the two was a bit annoying.Almost felt like they needed to get some average expense out of each table. The food was expensive but I didn’t care much as the quality was good. Would’ve ordered more anyways. But leave the choice to the customer.
Firstly the food here is small plates and mainly vegan with a few vegetarian options, your fantastic staff will be happy to accommodate a full vegan menu if requested. The service itself is fantastic some of the best Ive experienced. As someone who usually only tolerates vegan food I must say the eggplant and the whole cauliflower dishes are some of the best things Ive had the pleasure of tasting. It is small plates and its not cheap so dont expect to order less than 2 per person.Share and enjoy the experience together there arent many as good.
Overpriced and underwhelming if youre vegetarian. If you do end up here, order the burger. Everything else is a throw of the dice. Our waiter recommended a shaved apple appetizer that was $19, citing that it was his favourite. He insisted that the entrees would take too long to be prepared, so we should get another item. The shaved apple dish tasted like nothing. The apple didnt have its natural refreshing flavor. unfortunately, it was bland, flavolorless. As if I was chewing a rope (maybe even ropes have more flavor). The worst part of it was that the entrees didnt even take that long to be served. It felt like the waiter just wanted us to spend more. The items are a mish-mash of various cuisines and flavors. The food here is from nowhere in particular. The decor of the place and the ambience is similar. Its some kind of global mix that ends up feeling like nowhere.Overall: Do not recommend.
I love the food here, but I had a bad experience today. I had specifically asked if the maitake dish was gluten free and the.waiter said it was gf. Later when I got it and tasted it , it looked suspicious and I asked again just to confirm. And the same waiter said ohh I am so sorry its not gluten free. Later we had other gf dishes. However instead of offering to take off the charges for a cocktail or another dish to try to rectify the mess, the waiter and manager tried to push us to get gf sorbet on the house that we did not want. Overall I left feeling very disappointed.
Atmosphere: 10. Food:8. Chic & modern decor, a place that it feels comfortable to dress up or down. The flavor of the food was wonderful, a couple dishes felt like they were missing something, but that could have just been my flavor palette. I tried 8 dishes in total. The creativity of the completely plant based dishes was a 10. Safe for vegans and those avoiding gluten. I wish they had a few more choices for entrees, but as they advertise a small plate concept that aspect didnt contribute to my rating. Keep in mind dishes are small, great place for sharing with friends. The drinks are phenomenal and the bartenders are friendly and helpful. Definitely try the lettuce wraps and, for dessert, their Pavlova is a must.
Great service, beautiful environment (feminine, modern, chic), and delicious food. You won’t miss the meat. Flavors are rich, complex and layered making the food incredibly satisfying. You get what you pay for, the food is not inexpensive but well worth it. My first time and it won’t be my last. Make sure to try the Almond pancakes with jungle butter, coconut yogurt bowl with citrus and pistachios, and the scrambled dosa.
Vegetarian food has never been this inventive and delicious. The roasted cauliflower is not to be missed and I could eat the spinach noodles every day for the rest of my life. The environment is spare but beautiful and the service is excellent. Every aspect of the restaurant is unique and beautifully done. And before or after you eat you can complete the experience by shopping at ABC Carpet and Home.
The food is top quality. Clean eating. No fake meats or weird names. Vegetarian dining at its best. You can also request to have them make food veganized for you. My dining partner and I ordered the beauty and wellness menu. 10 courses to share of the chefs selection in vegan form. Everything was delicious. My favorite was the burdock root noodles and lettuce cups with veggie taco fillings. Cant wait to come back and try some items from the bakery. Service was on point! Happy to see Jean George put his name behind more healthier restaurants! Maybe one day we will see him convert to meat-less in all his restaurants.
This place is amazing! great food, and one of the very few places that made me want to return as soon as possible. the space is nice but way too noisy, which makes being there a bit tiring. but the food is fantastic. we had three starters and two mains for two, and that was about right. its pricey, but you get good things. the lettuce avocado wraps were how we started, and they were a revelation. all other dishes were great, too. ill definitely go again next time i am in new york.

2022-01-17It was my first time here and I will definitely be coming back. Both the food and service were great. The dishes were well thought out and flavors were brought together in ways that you’d never think of. The atmosphere inside was great, however the 2 person tables were placed very close together. With COVID raging once again I think that touching elbows with your neighbor isn’t what we want.

2022-05-10Everything was so fantastic, one of the best meals we’ve had in a while. We loved the dates, green hummus, pasta special, and pineapple upside down cake. The cocktails were excellent and not too sweet. 4 dishes plus dessert was just right for the two of us. Would definitely go back!

2022-05-25All of the food is excellent. Small portions so just be prepared going in that youll want to order a few dishes, so it ends up being a pricey meal, but definitely worth it. We had the fried maitake, the walnut bolognese and the yam bread with tomato. All of it was incredibly well prepared and interesting flavors. We sat at the chefs counter and watched the preparation - there was one beautiful beet dish that looked amazing and I want to try next time! The chairs at the chefs counter are like bar stools with a back - a bit narrow and not super comfortable. Very interesting cocktail menu and comprehensive list of non alcoholic mixed drinks (juices, extractions, shakes, etc)

2022-05-04Another vegan place I tried with friends out of curiosity, and this place has not let me down. The server was nice and she recommended that we share the meals, which allows us to try almost all the items from the menu.I can say that each and every item had its twist and kick, starting with the dates appetizers 🤤Just go for any items that speaks to you, I promise you that you wont regret it 😋

2022-05-05I’ve been to the restaurant quite a couple of times since we love the food here.. each and every dish is mouth watering.. but this time when we visited the quantity served was very very less and also the quality was soo poor.. didn’t expect from abcv chef.. we didn’t want to spoil our special occasion so we didn’t report this to the manager but one must check the quality and quantity both. Posting some pictures from my previous experience

2022-01-17An absolute must go for the health conscious foodies! Jean Georges’ undying passion to his craft always exceeds everyone’s expectations. Must commend the staff for their warmth and professionalism. Overall safety measures, excellent!

2022-05-24This place was good and the full taste profile was ALMOST there, but just slightly missed the mark. The dosa was good (best enjoyed fresh and right after cooking). The special was bamboo shoots which I discovered I’m not a fan of, but they were still pretty good. The cauliflower was good, but needed to be either boiled longer (if it was boiled prior to roasting) or boiled before roasting in the first place. Otherwise I loved the toppings and seasoning. The bolognese had good flavor but was a little too Al dente. I would come back to try other things. The wine selection was pretty good, but my matcha drink was just ok.

2021-12-27After making reservations over 2 weeks in advance, we celebrated our anniversary here and were given a very nice comfortable corner seating at this extremely comfortable, low lighting, romantic kind of setting restaurant.Welcomed by a friendly team, we were seated right away and placed our order for cocktails which included a very flavorful Bell Pepper Martini ($17), Smoky Fig Sour ($18), and Rose of Sharon ($18). Smoky fig sour is a definite must try for whisky lovers and Rose of Sharon was the least fun to drink! Cocktails overall lacked the spirit punch, but were enjoyable.Erin, who helped us during our visit was friendly and explained to us that it was a tasting menu and 2 to 3 dishes per person on an average would be ideal. We took that suggestion and ordered a few things which included Shallot Labneh ($20), Saison Battered Maitake ($28), Norwich Meadows Badger Flame Beets ($21), Dosa ($21), Whole Roasted Cauliflower ($29), and Mushroom Walnut Bolognese ($26).Personally, I am not a big fan of tasting menus, and the pricing at abcV is definitely on an expensive end. The things we ordered were based off on other Yelp reviews, and food overall was just okay. We love bold flavors, and the only dishes that really impressed us were the Shallot Labneh and Saison Battered Maitake.A different take on Dosa, which was served with cold sprouts, avocado, and yogurt confirmed that Dosa is a dish best served in its classic form with (or without) potato masala subji and the traditional sambar and chutneys, and was one of our least favorite dishes of the evening. The mushroom walnut bolognese was good too, but our pasta was slightly thicker (and chewer) than we like it to be.Portion sizes to prices are slightly off. Veggie food presented in different styles/cuisines including Middle Eastern, Indian, and Italian though were quite interesting.Noise level was low, easy to have conversations, and a very friendly team definitely adds a star!

2022-05-22Would recommend for cocktails & bites but at the bar, but not recommend for a sit-down meal. There’s a creative & quality cocktail menu and good variety of hot/cold veggie apps to choose from, but I wasn’t impressed with the table service (very slow and inattentive, took 10 min to even be attended after getting seated), and the entrees were just alright. For the prices I would’ve expected bolder flavors (or just more affordable prices given it’s all veggie).
