Afghan Grill in other cities:
This place gets a zero. Rude lady and horrible service. We found hair in the food and items missing and she blamed it on uber eats. Not taking amy responsibility. When i called the lady started having temper tantrums. When i asked to speak to owner a guy who clearly was not the owner started saying bad words. Thankfully we recorded everything. This type of behavior can not be allowed from a business.
All these 5 stars reviews are either fake or they are friends/families. they serve us cold pita bread as an appetizer. Portion were very small, the plater that should serve four people was only enough for one person. Staff was EXTREMELY rude and unprofessional. They should be not be running a restaurant business. Over all the service was not good. I wish there was an option of zero star rating. very bad experience. Waste of time and money.
There is good reason the New York Times raved about the Afghan Grill. Dinner for three with appetizers, salads and desert cost $100 , which included a generous tip. Even at double the price it would be a bargain. Service was spot on and extremely friendly and professional. The salmon was perfectly prepared and the rice that it came with delicious . My vegetarian dining partners both raved about the pumpkin, eggplant, hummus and several appetizers , as well as the nice variety of vegetarian and vegan dishes. What is really terrific is that the meal was also healthy. I enjoyed it so much I plan to go back next week.
We recently tried the food here. We bought some spinach and couple of different stews. Also a mixed kabob platter which included all three types of meat with rice(carrots&raisins). Came with small tray of salad. Nice presentation. The entire order tasted very good.was very pleased. Definitely going to visit them again.
Food wasn’t the expected Afghani Cuisine someone would want. They DO NOT have Afghani Bread which is a Afghan Cuisine Essential, instead we were served regular Pita bread as a substitute. We asked for extra white sauce and were told that it’ll cost extra(mind you we’re dining in).If you’re in for a Afghani/Persian Cuisine, make a 5min Detour & to go Miraj Healthy Grill. IT IS SO MUCH MORE WORTH IT! BELIEVE ME!
Amazing place, we are loyal recurrent patrons. The lamb is always succulent, the rice is tender and flavorful, a lot of great vegetarian AND meat-eater choices. The owners are super sweet and make you feel right at home. This place is super cozy, romantic, and the portions are VERY generous.
I used to dine here a lot but the food has definitely downgraded. The staff is very nice and accommodating, a very nice family business. But the food really needs to be better and is very overpriced. The rice and kebabs are lacking taste. The food was very bland during my few trips there for about a year now. I love the people who own the place and manage it, they are very nice but please add some flavor to the rice and kebabs!
The restaurant is family run and has a small, cozy atmosphere with great food and service. Their stews and kebabs are superb served with ample amounts of rice. I love to finish with their delicious aromatic tea. I would recommend this place to all those who enjoy good middle eastern food.
Delicious food! Our favorite is the chicken kebab with rice and their beef eggplant stew! We usually order combination kebab with stew. Comes with plenty of rice and salad. We love it with the green sauce on the side. Unfortunately we dont order from them as often any more because they have really gone up each year in price! But for a special occasion, its definitely worth trying!
Nice clean restaurant with good food BUT their staff definitely needs proper training to ensure their customers return and recommend them to family or friends. They served kabobs and didnt place knife on the table to eat it. When we asked for a knife, much to our surprise, the waiter brought a chef knife. I surprisingly asked what is this? He stupidly replied, is it too sharp? Meanwhile two other waiters came to enjoy joke of the evening. They laughed instead of saying sorry. He then came with the correct knife and said sorry. The food was good but after this rude service I didnt enjoy it at all. My husband checked his statement 3 days later and noticed that they had added an extra $1 to the tip. May be it was a mistake but dining here this time was not a pleasant experience.
AMAZING !!! Try it you’ll be hooked. My son started going here a few years ago with his buddies. Then introduced it to us .... and now our family is hooked. Fresh made everything all the time. I LOVE this place so much that I dream about the basmati rice and white yogurt sauce..can’t say enough about this place. !!
I had heard this spot was good. Went on a Thursday. The appetizers were very small and the pita bread was cold. For dinner got the two kebab combo. Chose the lamb and steak. The food cameand it tasted absolutely terrible... the steak had no flavor to it. It tastes literally like they took it out the freezer and just placed it on the grill. The lamb kebabs had no flavor as well and were hard as rock. Terrible experience. Would not recommend. Waitress was nice though.
We had a gift certificate, When we arrived it was empty but we still had to wait. Ar that point we decided to order to go. While wailing we had a nice conversation with the person who took the order. It was a long wait but I considered that a sign the food was freshly made, Not sure it was. The food was less than good, average at best. The decor needs improvement to reflect a feeling of a Afghan restaurant, The good reviews may be a sign of more acceptance of mediocre dining. As for now pass up the Afghan Grill to let them it needs to improve.,
Mist delicious food. with my family i love eating afghan food. we live in long island but always go to main street. we passed by one day and figured to give it a try one day. the finally got here and we were blown away. must try the lamb shank super soft and amazing, also the eggplant and lamb was delicious as well. we definitely recommend this place. not only is the food great, the service was perfect and the owner is very friendly.
We went for small party , overly priced, only one waitress for the whole restaurant. They billed and presented food which we never ordered gave lot of rice and chicken curry , just to charge more. kabbabs are dry . No fresh bread, Said bread maker is off today. waiting for ten minutes to get a glass of water. total waste of $450.00 . Overly overly priced. so much plain rice left to carry back without any souses. Dont waste your money to go there. Complete waste. i will not even give 0 star and never go back.we have medical office in vicinity and thought that we will order food for medical reps . not any more.
I love this place, very peaceful and quiet, the food is delicious and very authentic, its one of those places you can bring the family or have an important business dinner if needed. Omar ( The Owner ) is very welcoming and charming with his perfect smile and will treat you like royalty, if you come to eat here, ask for him he is simply the best. I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for great food and pleasant accommodations.
Absolutely the worst, downgrading and insulting customer service. They need to remove NY Times article from their Window as this article attracts clients but the reality is so far from any USA standards of SANE customer service. We might dealt with the same waiter that previous reviewer was writing about. First of all, we entered the restaurant and a lady told us from the long distance to come and sit, she was even lazy to walk and admit the customers. She disappeared and forgot that we exist. We waited for almost 15-20 minutes just for someone to take our order. The new waiter was a younger man with beard. My husband told him about ignoring the customers for so long and he got the following response from the waiter: “They are very busy because they have a very big catering order and they should have been kept the door closed. Question: If you are so busy with outside catering order and don’t want the customers than why you kept the door open? ?? As per waiter: They do NOT have KID’S menu. I assume they are NOT child friendly restaurant. Be open and write about NO kids menu on your window instead of putting NY Times article there. People with smaller kids, Please be aware!!!! FINALLY, We did NOT take any food and left, when we were leaving the waiter went outside and said F-swearing word in front of my 4 year old child. F-word in front of my 4 year old child and us, this is the DISGRACE in its highest form. Hopefully, I will have more time to file complaints with some consumer protection authorities and this Disgrace restaurant should STOP their insulting practices or close their doors.
I have been eating at the Afghan Grill for over eight years. Within that time I have always had an excellent experience. The food is ALWAYS delicious, and consistent. It is my entrie families favorite place to eat and the staff are the nicest and most welcoming people. I always recommend this place to everyone because I know they will not be diaapponted.
We went yesterday ( Saturday night) at Afghan grill, they didn’t serve us fresh grilled kabob it was microwave, looks shrinked . Chicken and lamb kabob was so much dry, in salad bowl there was water in bottom. Even their lamb chops was dry. I would not recommend this restaurant, usually restaurants have fresh food in weekends such a disappointment.
A nice clean restaurant with waiters/waitresses dressed neatly. We had sambosa, lamb shank with kabuli pulaw, and Kabob Kobideh, all very delicious and plentiful with prices comparable to other decent Afghan restaurants. Street parking availability, close to many of the major Indian markets, will definitely be coming back.
The worst food ever. And the staff they have are highly trained in stealing. They steal money from your card.theyll right tip by themselves and charge you even though you dont want to give them for the discusting food and bad services. The rudest staff ever. Stay away from these theives....
Happy valentines day. My boyfriend brought me here for dinner tonight. In fact I am typing while we are having dsesert. Our server, Omar, was great & even assisted me in making my order which was delicious. I ordered the #1 appetizer which was eggplant & my boyfriend ordered the dumplings, both were great. For the entre my boyfriend ordered the steak kebab meal & I ordered the lamb pattie kebab meal. Both meals were amazing, (although I couldnt keep my fork of oh his plate). To end the night we had the home-made ice cream that had a fruity pebble taste to it. Overall great service & food, will definitely be back for more.
Over priced, the waitress ( who we thought was also the owner or partner) added stuff to our order.. ended up paying toooo much money for the food served ... only one waitress to serve like 30 people in the entire dining hall.. no naan were served -- no green tea afterwards..very disappointed .. people who gave them good reviews probably never been to a good restaurant ...

2022-04-01Let’s start with appetizers and then move onto to main course to a perfect plate. Tonight’s dinner at Afghan Grill @ Hillside was amazing. The #Manto and Chicken #Kebab was cooked to perfection😘🙌🏽. Tender, juicy. The yogurt sauce was too good. I asked for recipe 🤣but the waitress wasn’t willing to share. A family friendly place for satisfying meal. Will be back. The bill came around $90.00 w/o tip for 4 people. Used my Venture X card, forgot to take the Wells Fargo dinning card for 3% cash back.

2022-05-04Now Im not am Afghan food expert but if youre looking for a flavor blast in your taste buds - this is a great spot for it!The sambosa was crispy and filled with an excellently seasoned ground beef and veggies. The green sauce also added tons of flavor (I believe this sauce is cilantro-based).The tikka lamb kebab was fantastic. The meat was juicy, grilled, and seasoned. The rice was also very soft and tasty.I will definitely be returning to try other menu items!

2022-02-13I ordered 2 chicken kebabs, one with qabili and another with zereshk. The rice was pretty good and they gave more than enough sauce but the chicken was a little less than I expected. It came with nice fresh salad. My critique is the bread was just a flat pita bread and not the traditional afghan bread I am accustomed to. The staff was very friendly and the firni (rice pudding) was good.

2022-06-14This is the best restaurant in the area, youll be attended by owners, theyre friendly and promptly to help you, the food very tasty and fresh they have no precooked food, Cooke at that moment. Highly recommend this place, simple the best!!!

2022-06-05Good food as expected but meat was over cooked and hard.Confusing menus.Ordering for group or family trays are super confusing and can be pricey. If you chose food for seven and get any Kabab item that is not ground meet, they will give you one skewer. Otherwise 2 skewers for ground meet.

2020-10-26I have been coming here for over 10 years - the quality is always high, even during the pandemic - Angela is the owner and she always makes sure everything is fresh and that we are satisfied - it is BYOB and the food is always delicious
