A no-frills Turkish restaurant that opens till late, offering the most scrumptious kebabs, salads, and soups this part of Brooklyn. They serve a generous serving of homemade bread (probably the best weve ever tried again and again anywhere in the borough), warm and tempting, together with our meal, as well as offers half orders of most items on their menu. We keep coming back to this place, and we know exactly why.
This restaurant is a gem of Midwood. The people of Midwood are religious Jews, Turks, Russian, Hispanic, Balkan, and Arab. Were immigrants. You wont find New York quality here, but you will find lots of damned good ethnic food.Lots of Turkish and middle eastern eateries in this neighborhood, most notably Memo on Kings Highway. Its hard not comparing Aksaray with Memo... I truly love Memo, and the people who work there are some of the nicest people in Midwood, but as another reviewer points out, Aksaray might actually have the upper hand in the food department. The waitresses are very friendly. I think they may have too many tables to wait on because its slightly difficult getting their attention, but thats not their fault. I think they need another waitress here. When you walk in, you walk past a counter that has uncooked kebabs and meats that you can purchase and cook at home, along side a dessert counter where youll see 3 different kinds of baklava as well as other desserts like rice pudding. The food here bursts with flavor. This is a true gem of the neighborhood.House Bread: A+Very flavorful breads with a beautiful golden crust on top and a delicious crunchy/chewy crust on the bottom. The inside is fluffy and delicious. Goes really well with the olive oil supplied with each table. Magnificent bread!Lamb Soup: C+Not overly fond of this soup. I was expecting something like Harcho, but got something like New England Clam Chowder with lamb replacing clam. Slightly sour, and very homogeneous the way chowders can be. Not my favorite.Lentil Soup: B+An excellent lentil soup. Its not a chunky kind of soup: its not one of those lentil soups where youll be chewing the lentils. Its more liquidy than that. But great flavors. Above average.Humus: A-An excellent hummus. Garlicky, flavorful, smooth. If you like hummus, youll want to try it.Lamb Adana Kebab: A-Very soft and succulent lamb. Absolutely delicious. Probably not appropriate for small kids because its ever so slightly spicy, but its perfect for adults! ;-PIskender Kebab: A+Might be the best Iskender kebab Ive ever eaten. Firstly, they use that A+ yummy bread. Secondly, the lamb gyro they use for the iskender kebab is soft, juicy, and bursting with flavor. Thirdly, the yogurt they use is A+ as well. And fourthly, the pièce de résistance is the brilliant and skilled way the chef fries the bread and uses oils and peppers to enhance the flavor of the dish. It couldnt possibly be any better than it is.Aksaray Kofte Special: A+The same as the iskender kebab, but instead of using lamb gyro, they meat is ground lamb mini meatballs. All the same comments apply. This might be my favorite dish on the menu.Bakalva: ADelicious. Still crispy; not soggy.
Very expensive food and on top you get very bad service! I came with my family like 4 times and almost spent $1000 and food was ok the first two times and after that they bought bloody meat and the waitress ( not the blonde one the other one) had an attitude. Was very rude to us. Never again, you ain’t getting my hard earned money again! There are ALOT of good spaces please! Good bye
This place is the best!!! Open 24/7. They always whip up the most bomb freshest sandwiches. Consistent every time!! Truly a neighborhood gem and my favorite Turkish Spot in all of Brooklyn. To top it off the prices are more than reasonable. I always order the chicken Kebab everything on it with a scoop of hummus. You really can’t beat this. Thank you for being my go to late night spot. Never disappoints. I highly recommend !!! 👍🔥
Just had the worse experience. We order the lamb soup and it was bitter. Couldnt even swallow a teaspoon. Asked the waiter to replace it for the chicken soup. I had there lamb soup before but it was never this bitter. They replaced the soup but when they gave the bill they charged me for both. When I asked them why they charged me. They said its not there fault I couldnt eat it. Worse customer service ever! The waitress and owner was extremely rude. They wouldnt even let us finish eating. They started taking out plates. Disgusting. Will never go again.
Very very bad experience, don,t order the food online... its a big waste of money , we ordered a mix grill and it smells bad like it was rotten , its not healthy at all , they use old meat and cheap spices , when we try to complain they even cut our call ,again its not a good place to eat and waste money
TURKEY 🇹🇷Eat the World NYC review:Technically this Turkish cafe is open 24 hours a day, but the spinning meats near the window look their best right at lunch time. As business picks up in the early afternoon, layers of the cooked bits start to disappear onto plates and into pitas. Freshly cooked Turkish bread is also a possible vehicle for your gyro as shown here, an extra dollar well spent. Linger for a while with their brutally strong and muddy Turkish coffee. The place is quiet given its setback from busy Kings Highway, but seems very well known amongst its regulars.
Rudeness at its best!!!Honest review! This is my second ever review for any restaurant.Firstly, the staff is rude. Secondly, womens hair in food i received.Thirdly, please keep your eyes open and be alert where you go and eat. If the staff seems to be rude and disrespectful (Please DO NOT behave/react in the same manner) then make the correct decision whether to avoid or simply not return to that place again. Because, you are a human!I wonder how ppl can go to bed at night and have a sound sleep with all day being disrespectful and ill mannered to ppl they interact with.Thank you!
Food was good but it took 30 minutes to get our food yet it was basic dishes and the place only had 2 other tables occupied. We watched the table next to us, who arrived after us, get their food, check and leave. we still didnt get our dinner. No napkins were provided yet were eating with our hands. Finally get one napkin and I had to share it by tearing it in half.
Had come here a couple of times and for the most part it had been pretty good. I recently came back during my lunch break and the lady behind the counter rudely said I could not order off the lunch menu if I was eating in, I explained to her that I had eaten in multiple times but she insisted on being rude and saying we could not eat in for lunch. One of the waiters then said we could stay in and eat for lunch, I should have just left. After we eat we get the bill and they overcharge me and I bring it to the counter and the women behind the counter insists on being rude and saying that because I ate to stay I was charged more. Never coming back to this place again.
Girsl arevery miserable there ! The owner should pay them more be cause every time i come they just look so sad and unhappy..i started feel bad for them(they deff dont deserve to be treated like that)And the owner just look like a big mess ,who touches food with his hands and its very disgusting.
If you are looking for a delicious meal - this is the place to go. Food is phenomenal! Salad and some crispy on the outside and soft on the inside bread, mmmm. Gyro is perfect, golden and juicy. And the chicken!!! We couldn’t stop eating!!! Adana kebab is to die for! Number one spot for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Make sure you try their deserts too. Thank you!!!
What a facade. Tea isnt even authentic Turkish tea. Its Lipton tea thats been sitting for hours so its bitter. What kind of Turkish restaurant fails to make proper tea? The bread that they serve as an appetizer isnt made fresh. Its reheated, pathetic. One of them was burnt, the other was pale and raw. Shepherd salad needed a bit of salt, but other than that, its ehh. Iskender kebab was alright, nothing to die for. Overall, it isnt something Id go out of my way for.
If you are looking for Turkish food that has fresh and tasty food, then this is the one! I have tried many other Turkish cafes / restaurants, but believe me, I was not satisfied with them. I highly recommend the Aksaray cafe to all lovers of Turkish cuisine, and also from the finds for me the long-term cafe Nargis. These both establishments make excellent food quality. I really hope that for many many more years they will delight us/clients.
Open late every day. (2-3 a.m.) They get your orders right and are good people. All the food is great. My favorite is the lamb shish kebabs or lamb chops. If u want something cheaper the lamb/chicken gyro is priced fairly and they arent stingy. They are small and not very well known but they have better food then the spot on comey island ave and the other place on 86th/Bay Parkway. U can dine in or take out. Very clean and nice dining area!
I came to pick up my order and what can I tell you...The rice was over cooked, the chicken gyro had no taste at all its loked like is was boild not grilled. The bread was hard and stall, its fill like it was from 5 days ago, if I would eat in the spot, I would returned this food.Im very disappointed, its use to be a good place to eat
The food is fresh and you just have to ask them to make the meat medium well or well done so that just in case it would not be undercooked. Overall it’s better prices than memo’s and they are not greedy with portions. Only thing is I think the rice can get a little soggy if you wait too long to eat it if you’re doing take out.
By far the juiciest and most well seasoned adana kabab I have ever tasted. They vigilantly follow COVID guidelines, making indoor dining less worrisome. Prepackaged utensils, scanned menu, and temperature checks. The restaurant is tucked away and is certainly a gem for Turkish fare.
Aksaray is the best Türkish food in Brooklyn NY. Its a family operated business. The owner ia the best chef. They ALWAYS have four different kind of soups. It was renovated last year, so now its even bigger. Try it. Tonight we had a good food. Thank you Aksaray for feeding us......
Open 24hours. Food is consistently good. I usually get the lamb shish kebab plate. Unlike other places I have ordered this, the chunks of lamb are always lean. Your cubes of meat are just that, no low quality fatty unchewable pieces. Platter comes with awesome shredded cooked cabbage, flavored rice and a shredded cold green onion and lettuce salad. Sometimes too much raw onions for my taste but probably the scoop they pick up at the time. Appetizer platter has all kinds of delicious samples, well made tasty hummus, roasted eggplant, stuffed fresh grape leaves and much more. Staff is great. Desserts are always fresh and also soooo good!
So disappointed with their food. The meats were dry and tough. Their turkish bread was dry and hard. The baklava was wet, soggy and flavorIess. Everything tasted old except the shepherds salad. Honestly, I should have gone to Memos a few blocks away. Never again will I go there. Quality over quantity please!
The service was really good and people are very nice. However, my soup came in a bit watered down and chicken kebab had 2 pieces of chicken that werent grilled through. Liver cubes came in too dry. Overall the place has a great potential because of the good service, but they need to fix their food problems.
Foods are amazing, prices are good except the mandatory gratuity included in the receipt. Basically You pay a tip at the end and there is also tip in your check so you are paying double tip for no reason. Man behind the counter is really a good guy with perfect attitude to customers but the waitress wasn’t like that.
Girl at the register is so rude and messed up my order every time. They fill up your plate with Rice and very very literally but of meat. They are becoming like Memo very cheap with the meat. I used to love this place now I Hate it and wont return ever again. Because of the portion of food and that rude girl.If I can give 0 stars 🌟 I would. Dont eat there youll be paying $18 for a plate of rice 😫
Amazing place . Have been coming here since before they have expanded. My go to spot for late night food at a great price! The owners are great and so are their sons! Food is always hot and tastes amazing. Love the chicken gyro sandwich with Shepard salad and feta cheese inside. Or go for a Adana kebab.
Love this spot! Open 24/7 and food is amazing. I believe they work very hard to keep the food at a home style taste. Service is smooth and just a relaxing place to get something to eat and relax from a long day at work. Come here quite often becuase everything is amazing!
WOW! Where do I start. I have been to MANY Turkish restaurants all over NYC and different states as well. NOTHING comes close to the quality of food served at Aksaray. I went here for the first time in 2014 and I probably went back at least 50 times ever since. Every single time the food taste as good as it did the first time I tried it. Personally I think consistency is key to a successful restaurant and believe me Aksaray does not dissapoint. Everything is freshly made and the people working there are a breath of fresh air. Dont let the ambiance fool you! Every single item on their menu is delicious. My favorite is the mixed platter and.....wait what am I saying I love all they have to offer. Sometimes I try to hold myself back from going back as I dont want to get tired of the place(which usually happens) but then I end up going and I dont think I can ever get tired of this place.I wish them nothing but more and more success and I will be a dedicated customer as long as Im alive!!
Better Turkish food than similar restaurants in the neighborhood. The renovation has not caused any decrease in service or quality. You could place it safe and go with the gyro or kebabs, but their meat pies are out of this world. I would also recommend their soups.Their bread hasnt changed is 20 years and it is still among the best in the area. This restaurant may be hidden on a side street, but the quality of their food is the reason that it has stayed open so long in this neighborhood.
The food is awesome. You can try different meal almost every day of the week. All the people who work there are well mannered and professional except for one lady, who is always a mood killer. She never smiles and always has a problem with other workers if they serve in a slightly different way. She makes the customer feel guilty with her arguments with other workers. Thats the only reason I am giving a 3 star. Otherwise, this is a five star Cafe.
Go to place for the past 5 years straight, used to come here when it was a lot smaller & im glad they are expanding and getting the customers they deserve! such a great & welcoming place with great tasty food, always get Lamb/Chicken Gyro to go & dine in with friends. They are even open late at night which is another plus!
Food the Meat and Pita bread was very good nice and clean place ,The reason why i give 4 stars is the white sauce had no taste so they need to make more creamy and more tasty the Portions of the food was smaller for the Price they dont even keep mayo , Anyway the biggest thing that Bothered me was the they add gratuity on the bill and there is no order with items copy so if you didn’t see on the cash that they charged you for Service on the bill you are going to pay Tip again very tricky to ripping you off so i will suggest every COSTUMER DONT TIP THEY ALL-READY CHARGET YOU . But for the food 5 stars ⭐️ cant complain
Best Turkish restaurant around. The best thing about it is that its open 24/7 I definitely recommend it because the food is just so excellent. Oh yes must definitely try the baklava best I have ever tasted. Every Saturday the owner makes a special meat pie which theres lines andpre-orders. Well recommend!
Not recommended, unless you wanna cheap soup.Cons :1. Gratuity added to the bill, 18%.2. When checkout, waiter brought only bill, no order with items copy. Tricky & unprofessional.3. Expensive, small portion. Ordered large mixed gyro platter for $15. It came out small portion. When I complained to the waiter, about the small portion. The waiter replied: It is good for you. LOL. Probably waiter is a comedian, never mind. While, Im still starving after spending $19.4. Management seems cheap, lack of customer relation & energy. Only 2 customers were there. Restaurant looks empty. One of the customers ordered lentil soup only, which always comes with free bread. I believe this will fill the stomach for only $5. The other group ordered one kebab order to share...Pros:1. Food tastes ok. Scale 1 - 10 : 6 given2. Decoration looks clean & neat. 8 given.3. Soup seems ok, but havent tried yetSuggestion:Dont wanna be judgemental, but you have to try the other Turkish restaurant which is 2 blocks away, named: Memo Shish Kebab. Personally think its better than this place in many aspects: taste, price, service & environment.Cheers!
As soon as I walked inside this establishment , I’ve noticed the great vibe and atmosphere. Trying some of their menu items made me fall in love especially being at a very affordable price point. Great neighborhood spot, I highly recommend anyone to come inside and give them a try. Thank you for the great food and business
The meze we had was good and a nice portion, always had good food here. They recently expanded and have plenty of seating now. I was a little disappointed that they did not serve Turkish tea, but hope they will serve it in the future.Update 4/21/2018: they do serve Turkish tea now! Today I had the grilled Kofte and it was fabulous.
I always eat there, very delicious food, but I have to give 2 stars today for a very bad service! there basically at the cash desk a blond girl works, she talks rudely with customer. always spoils the appetite. today she gave my order to other people and she did not even say sorry. I had to wait half an hour. service at the zero level!
Sad because I used to really like this place. Looks like they have significantly reduced their portion sizes. I had to try and convince the owners son that the plate I received was certainly not a large, and that I should be charged a small plate. Instead he argued back (really? Over $4?) telling me it is a large, and that he can’t do me a “favor”. Favor? Lol ripping me off is not a favor to me. He then proceeded by telling me the chef has changed and he makes the kebabs a lot smaller than usual. Not my concern, figure your business out before you lose all your customers. I refuse to continue to pay $17 for a tiny portion. Won’t be coming back here anymore. Posting a picture of what I actually received versus what they used to give as a “large” straight from their Instagram page. Side note- maybe hire waitresses that can speak English also so they don’t ruin your order every time?
Honestly I’ve had their food before and it was alright, way too over priced. Last time I ordered it took them 20 minutes to get my order right, I called back to double check and the guy said the order was fine and not to worry. When I got the food there was an order missing and when I called they kept saying I was not charged for it and when I brought the receipt into the store to show them that I was In fact charged, they said they couldn’t give me a refund until the manager came the next day. Ridiculous. Your food is mediocre and your service sucks, don’t waste your time here.
Came here at 1:30 AM for some food. Loved the fact that they were cooking fresh food even at the time! There was no wait time but the staff was still a a little hectic. We ordered to stay, the food was cooked to go. I was still charged the $2 stay-in fee. It was also disappointing to see my food served to me in an aluminum tray instead of a proper plate. (Albeit not too big of a deal)Food was good (14.50 for a large plate of gyro). Ample sauce on the side. The large really isnt a large though! The plates are smaller than the cheap $5 gyro you get from the gyro stands. Theres about two spatula-fuls of meat and two spatula-fuls of rice. Even if its one person, get the large! If the large was so tiny, I could only assume the small would feed a child. All in all, it was a okay experience. Staff could be a little more attentive, and the place a little cleaner. But no red flags in terms of hygiene! Would recommend for a quick and cheap bite. Seating is adequate for non rush hours!
NEVER EVER TRY THIS PLACE.If you really want Turkish food (gyro, kebab, kofta, or whatever) try Memo Shish Kebaba, 3 blocks from it on Kings hwy. While food is not bad, the service is the worst ..They used to have nice people working over there there, but not any more ...Last time the waiter at night shift (guy) was really rude from first moment. Giving no answer or wrong info about the menu, unhelpful, and has really bad attitude. All that was okay, until I asked him to bring me the check. He just mentioned to me without saying a word to pay over counter!!!???I thought thats the system, so no complaint.I was waiting on long line to pay for my food, and I saw same Waiter brings checks to other customers!!!Honestly I felt really bad about it, and was thinking to not pay tip. While Im paying my bill, i asked the cashier guy if waiter was supposed to bring me check like other customers, but he said just sorry! The cashier charged me for 20% tip, and at this moment I said, that I wont pay tip for such service. It started to get worse when the the old man (cooker) got involved, and said that I must pay the tip .. I found out that hes the owner .. he only cares to pay the tip (it was clear that restaurant takes this money). After all, I insisted to not pay tip whatever happened .. as all if them are such rude!!The old man (owner) started shouting and screaming like crazy and already hit me to grab my credit card from my hand.Every customer were supporting me!! Im the one who was telling him to charge my card the correct amount so people dont have to wait more on the line!! Most rediclous people ever!I was a regular customer, but never had such problem before .. the staff who used to work before were nice, but after I I found out that this rude guy us owner .. no way to pay a penny for such people.
Ok so the reason im giving it a 3 star is because the food is really tasteless tbh. Everything is fresh its just very simple when it comes to taste. I got a pita with lamb gyro and salad and rice and it was all completley tasteless. The food is extremely fresh. But theres no taste what so ever. Also theres only like 2 tasteless sauces they give you on the side with nothing actually inside your food. Theres no humus white sauce, nothing!.. be greatful its a 3 star not 1
Decades old tasty place.Best tripe soup! (others also great)Always good lamb shawarma/gyro sandwich.Full menu of fire-meats, traditional and tasty. After the renovation its a PLEASURE to sit down there. Even the toilet is in good shape now (muslim friendly)They also do quick take outs. Generally its a full meal if you just snap a soup and Turkish bread. But may order a sandwich too and make it full size feast.Hard to squeeze fireworks of taste into a few words. But its VERY traditional and just genuinely tasty.Only warning: can get addictive!
They messed up our order and it became a awkward bigger than necessary ordeal to get it straightened out. Then they started acting like we were trying to pull a fast one even though we instantly told them about the issue, their was a slight language barrier with the initial hostess/cashier/waitress which made things harder to sort out. They in the end did straighten it out but another waitress was flippant about it as if we were something trying to steal or something.
I dont feel comfortable with them because they treat every customer different depending on their appearance and language accent. They did not clean my table I was going to eat but they were busy serving and cleaning every napkin of other table european russian speaking people. But the food is delicious and fresh!
I wish I can give less then 1 Star, order mix Platter with French fries, they charge me 25.99 plus Tax. That platter came with total half cooked 7 French fries and few pieces of chicken and few lamb and thats it. I went back and they said this is what comes with. I was so disappointed, I have been going there few times, but their behavior was so bad. I left my plate on counter and walked out and didnt even ask for money back caz it wasnt about money, if your are charging me so much Atleast give me a plate that looks like that price. Sorry not going there again
This place is open 24h and the food is fresh 24h . If you feel hungry at the middle of the night thats where you need to go . Or even when you go out on weekends and wants some food at 5am, this place provide anything you want the prices are good. But they dont have alcohol is a halal place.
I don’t know about food because I am first time calling that where it where crazy here smile smile smile I don’t know who’s pick up the phone but make sure she’s I am just ask do you have soup aunt that’s it she staffing I am very very busy I cannot take your order because you’re not ready ready for what 🤪🤬🤬🤬🤬 and Hung up hung up where angry very hard screaming I don’t know what happened I just starting driving now for sale who is her and I post leather explain about that she😂😂
Mixed grill, babaganoush, lentil soup. Cash $ (credit is accepted). Call to place your order and come pick it up. Oh and we lost our wallet outside of here once and the owners young son found it and called us up to retrieve it! ThanksMake sure to taste the lentil soup before purchasing... it differs by day
This restaurant has a 15% service charge for all dine-in meals. THE SERVICE CHARGE DOES NOT GO TO THE WORKERS, IT GOES TO THE OWNERS. The people who own this place are cheats and thieves who abuse their workers and lie to their customers. DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR MONEY!

2021-10-19Aksaray is not a high end restaurant, sometimes doesn’t really seem to be taken care of. however they have really good food. All platters of meat always juicy and delicious. Chops are Not tough, dry nor chewy. Prices are also very affordable which makes this place twice good! Many people love this place and come here. Also another great fact is the working hours. They’re open most of the time. Before it was even 24/7.So if I had to choose between this restaurant or some other I’d definitely come here. Turkish bread here is also very good!- Just please keep place more presentable.

2022-02-1715% tip/gratuity is automatically added to bill when dining in. Order the lunch specials, lamb gyro and lamb adana. The lamb from both dishes were juicy and seasoned well (though the gyro can be considered a bit too salty). The rice was super fluffy and flavorful. The kind of rice that you can keep eating even if you are super full. Shepherd salad was kind of bland, but does balance out the dish overall.

2022-03-23Mix platter for almost $12 is very disproportionate... 3 small slices of lamb , few slices of chicken and a teaspoon of Shephard salad to go. They used to be good , not its like a meal on a budget from the owner... my guess is inflation has caught up with Aksarai too.

2021-03-24The food is always fresh. I usually dine in. They have great table service and a friendly staff. You can make your own combination of meats on a plate from off the menu. The downside is that they forget to bring the whole order at once. They usually forget to give you the sauces. Sometimes they forget to warm up the bread. The bread is good when warmed up and eaten with the hummus.

2021-06-26This is one of our favorite Turkish restaurants in all of New York. Aksaray is a gem - no frills, fast and friendly service, great prices, and just authentic and delicious Turkish cuisine. I love getting their soups - the tripe soup is as legit as it gets. Portions are huge - the Iskender kebab is enough for two people, and the Adana kebab was so rich and juicy. Also, we love the fresh bread that they serve on the side. Credit card accepted. Highly recommend if you’re seeking authentic Turkish food!

2021-10-09After eating Iskender Kebab, I cancelled my desert order :D why the cook add sugar to all your meaty foods??? Meat should be salty! This is a kebab house, not candy shop! Meats are not tasty! Sugar candy :D

2022-03-21Best Turkish in brooklyn!!! Hands down. Softest bread ever, such a nice little spot. Everything from the meat to the chicken is seasoned so well. The rice is always cooked phenomenal. 100% recommend this spot for Turkish! Make sure u eat while it’s hot!

2021-07-18It doesn’t get any better than this! Delicious meals, great service and a very warm and friendly environment with wonderful people. I will be back for sure! It’s a bit off the main strip on Kings Highway but certainly well worth looking for

2022-06-28They’re sneaky in this place. They already include an 18% gratuity tip, yet they try to hide it very well and give you 3 options to add on even more tip. Food is decent, nothing special. It’s the best place you’ll find to eat during sleeping hours, so can’t really complain.

2021-03-28Unreal!!! This place is open 24/7!!! Best feeling ever to get a good meal any time of day. Love that they have all the meat freshly made and you can see the kebobs fore they are cooked. The kabobs were seasoned well, flavourful, juicy and cooked to perfection. The gyro wasnt that great. I personally wish it was cooked longer to get more of a crisp to it.
