Decent Broadway experience. The theater was fairly well maintained, but someone really ought to tell management that the digital ticketing system now used by the theater is an absolutely nightmare to use.Plenty of other theaters have far better options for digital tickets that dont require one to sign up for multiple online accounts and download an extra application.
Currently home to Moulin Rouge the Musical, this theater provides the perfect backdrop for the French Cabaret setting of the musical. I was sitting 2nd row center and provided a great view. Seating between rows is stagerred enough so you are not looking directly at someones back. The seats are not too tight and comfortable enough. Very elegant lobby. Nice staff. Mens bathrooms are clean and, surprise!, theres dividers between urinals. Was not able to visit the bar but they do have typical theater bar fare with the typical theater bar fare prices. The show itself will be the only reason to go to this theater and it definitely was worth it. So go visit! Now! Keep Broadway alive!
Beautiful theater with comfortable seating. Every seet is great! The bathroom situation for women is not the best but they try to make it work by making the mens room gender neutral 8 minutes into intermission so that there are a few more toilets for them. They need one more womens room to really accommodate the house efficiently. The theater was magically transformed for Moulin Rouge! into a fully immersive experience. Well done by all involved. The included pictures are from the upper balcony.
Ive been here for a few Broadway shows before, and they have all used this space amazingly. Im delighted every time because they always decorate the stage so perfectly that you feel transported into the plot. Went here for Moulin Rouge most recently, and we were thrilled.
The theatre itself is terrible. Uncomfortable seats and horrible staff. I was using the womenβs bathroom which had an incredibly long line, way more than the other 20 broadway theatres that Iβve been to, and my stall door was broken and not closing. I told the staff member this and she said I know and directed me to use it anyway. Also, if youβre going to see Moulin Rouge, donβt. It is horrible.
The show was fantastic, and the auditorium was incredibly decorated. Queues for the toilets at the interval were long, but moved quickly. It is indicated that people may use whichever toilets they feel most comfortable with. There was no bar available at this performance.
Absolutely amazing Broadway show. We came to watch the Moulin Rouge! show on a Saturday night and it blew my mind. The stage design and transitions, the actor and actressesβ performances, the vocals, music and costumes were all amazing and excellent. I donβt think I couldβve experience a more perfect show and venue. It was amazing.
My wife and I went on a date nite and went to see the Moulin Rouge production. The theater is a very clean and well kept building and the staff was very helpful and polite. There was no food or alcohol sold and you are not allowed to bring any drinks into the theater. The production was outstanding and would recommend coming to this place to see the Moulin Rouge
Saw Moulin Rouge here. This is a smaller theater. Some seats can prevent you from seeing portions of the side of the stage, but decent view of center stage from any seat. Masks required at all times. There was no food or beverage places open, Im guessing to prevent mask removal. We took mass transit, cuz parking in the city is just a pain in the a#@ or costs more than its worth if u dont shop around ahead of time....shop around, just my advice, mass transit is filled with a lot of sketchy people nowadays--worse than ever. Theater is somewhat outdated and seats cramped, but thats how most theaters are. Gave 5 stars cuz nothing terrible to say specifically about the theater.
Beautiful space, seeing Moulin Rouge, seats are more comfortable than I expected, a bit small, but that normal for theaters. The atmosphere is wonderful. They seem to have invested well in the sound design to accommodate a new audion expectation from when the theater was built. Curious how big that stage is, because they make it seem as though there is endless space on stage. Drinks were served quickly, ushers were on it getting people seated and explaining the rules. Still have to wear masks inside, but the experience is worth it.
A small theatre. The mezzanine is quite close to the stage so you might miss some of the action if there is a stage extension (like in Moulin Rouge). That also means you are close to the stage if you are in the mezzanine section. The mezzanine seating is quite extensive, larger than other theatres that size.Womens bathrooms are in the basement. I suggest using it before the show and booking it downstairs right after the show. There are 4 additional stalls tucked around the corner so they sometimes get missed. Sinks are outside the stalls area but within the queuing area. There is a working water fountain. As you leave, going up the stairs, to the right is a tiny window that serves as both a coat room and a concession stand. Additional concession stands on main floor and mezzanine floor.Menβs lounge is at mezzanine level.
I had a fabulous time, the theatre was beautiful, the show was conducted flawlessly. The employees continuously held themselves with friendliness and grace. One woman in particular, by the name of Leslie, went the extra mile to ensure I had a pleasant viewing experience today (3/6/22) I would 100% come back knowing that I am in such good hands.
The theatre itself is gorgeous and perfect setting for Moulin Rouge. The bar staff were real pros in keeping the energy festive and getting everyone moving through in time for curtain. Only note is that theaters truly need to refurbish seating to accommodate modern comforts. If movie theaters can do it, so should Broadway.
Long live Moulin Rouge on Broadway. Itβs the definition of spectacular. I love it so much I have seen it 3 times already. The original Broadway cast is so good, Aaron Tveit earned a well deserved Tony Award for his performance, he gives jt a 100% every night, itβs amazing, and the new Satine - Natalie Mendoza is just perfect in the role. Also Danny Burnstein, Robyn Hurder, Ricky Rojas, Sahr Ngaujah, the Lady Mβs, and all the ensemble is incredible. The show won a total of 10 Tony Awards, including best musical. Itβs a must see.
Is you want to feel like party of the show i definitely recommend the can can seats. The cast interacts with you its a great experience. Im definitely going back for mezzanine seats just to get an overall experience. You cant eat, drink or take pictures/videos at those seats because they place a security guard in the area with you to make sure if it, but thanks ok because once the show starts youre at the moulin rouge!!
Went here for the Moulin Rouge broadway show. The venue really sets the tone for the show with all the details and decor, including the bathrooms. Staff escorted us to our seats and made sure we had everything we needed. Drinks and food are pretty overpriced for what you get, so Iβd recommend eating before or after your show for a better bang for your buck. Have fun and enjoy the show!
Nice Theatre. Old school, classic, small. Went and saw Moulin Rouge, what a wonderful production! The only drawback is the flow of patrons getting to the bathrooms and that the merch area is right near the entrance into the actual theatre. It gets very crowded during intermission. Luckily after the show, they open up the side doors and you can easily get out that way.
We had a great experience with the Moulin Rouge show, it was amazing.I think the theater and the show match pretty well. The waitress at the bar knows how to get tips.. she give you the ticket and the pen and rush you to circle one of the tips suggestions, which are pretty high for the job she does
This review is not for the show itself but for the venue and its staff - beautiful space but rushed inpatient rude staff make one not feel like a cherished guest. if youβre paying top dollar for the theater, the entire experience including hospitality should be five stars - I would suggest management remind their staff that the guests are humans, not farm animals.
We watched Moulin Rouge here and the theater is gorgeous. Seats were comfortable as well. We were in fifth row side Orchestra seats and quite enjoyed the show. The stage was well set and everyone enjoyed the show. Location is a busy spot so keep extra time for commuting.
This theatre is absolutely beautiful. The ceilings and moldings are just amazing to look at with its artwork and design. The fact that this theatre is so old, along with the many others in NY, I find it extremely cozy, artsy and historical. The seats are comfortable but there is truly very little leg room and very little space for your coat (if its winter) but there is coat check available. All of the old theaters here in NY are pretty much the same, but I dont mind. We came here to see Kinky Boots which was nothing short of amazing. Of course, I will be returning.
This is my second Broadway show and it was fantastic. First off lets begin with parking if you need parking theni suggest finding a parking lot and park it in there because your car can be towed. Secondly if you purchased thr tickets online have the barcode ready. Thirdly try not to spend too much on food inside because its extremely expensive. Inside the theater is spectacular thr chairs are comfortable but not much leg rokm space. As far as the moulin rouge show goes it was great however I didnt get much of the original songs in the show. Most songs where more americanized. I still enjoyed the show however I expected more of a authentic show rather than modernized. I still did enjoy the show. My total for 2 tickets was $245 and parking cost me $24...
We went to see Kinky Boots, it was amazing. Easy to get to seats, lots of ushers everywhere. We sat at the mezzanine right and the view was good. Regular bottle of water was $5, so try to plan ahead. If you are a bit taller or wider, the seats may be a bit uncomfortable, but worth it for an amazing show!
Two stars because the theater itself is very nice. It has a swanky marble staircase, cool drawings by Hirschfeld lining the hallways and huge bathrooms. Unfortunately they had us lined up around the block almost to 8th and 44th until about 15 minutes before the show started. As for Moulin Rouge!.. I love theater and this was by far the most disappointing show Ive seen in a long time. The set is pretty cool (although if sit anywhere in the mezzanine you cant see the front of the catwalk at all) and the dancers are all gorgeous. Beyond that, though, there is really nothing here. Just endless medleys that have no melodic build up or resolution and paper thin characters that you could care less about. Immediately after the climax of the show when Saltine (the female lead) died (which should be sad) the cast started singing Hey, Ya! while dancing around in tutus and dousing the audience with confetti and glitter on our way out the door.
The theater is very beautiful inside and out. It is not to big and has unobstructed views from the balcony seats. We saw Moulin Rouge. DONT MISS THIS SHOW! It is one of the best Broadway shows that I ever saw. Great sets, great music, great choreography, just a great performance. Dont miss it.
Wonderful, intimate, old fashioned Broadway theater. Moulin Rouge is creative, escapist fun; a must for Pop music fans of the last 30 years or so. The much more recent tracks that are updates to the 70s and 80s music in the movie are the best part, especially βBad Romanceβ by Lady Gaga.
What a great show and job this theater did with Moulin Rouge. As usual, sits are as uncomfortable as brodway theater can be, and the bathroom brake is simply a nightmare. The first part of the show had some audio issues which were resolved after the intermission. The production was great, vocals could be better but overall, we had a great show
Moulin rouge was a fun show in a very pretty theater. This review is for the staff. They were all grumpy including the vaccine check, security, and ticket takers. The Ushers were very rude. They sat people in the wrong seats and had them move during the first scene. I know the have a job to do, but they were walking through the theater and distracting the entire performance.
Severe weather canceled most flights into LGA so we missed our show. This was my sons graduation gift so we tried to rebook for another night this weekend. The theater refused even though dozens of seats were left unsold right before the show started. We were told if we come back some other time they might allow it, but no guarantees. You would think the pandemic would have brought a bit of humbleness and spurred some customer service, but alas still just greed.
No doubt its a beautiful building. But the seating needs a major update for the modern North American. Im moderately tall and my knees jammed into the seat in front of me. The first seat my wife sat in was so narrow she was in pain the first act. And the weirdest thing is when we swapped seats we realized hers was considerably narrower than mine so the second half she was able to enjoy. There are also some sight line issues that could be addressed although that was more because Moulin rouge has a walkout that disappears beneath the front of the balcony. Its also not ideal that the womens washroom is all the way in the basement.
If you want to come in they asked you for your Id and shot/vaccine card, the theater is medium size and perfect for a show, its cozy, the seats arent huge but they are comfortable. I saw the moulin rouge and it was amazing, the scene, the environment. They manage to enchant from the moment you enter, they are professionals, the live music o. The point, not so loud and you could hear every note, the costumes are something else such a beautiful craftsmanship worthy of awards. I loved the scenario and the performers each one of them should be prod, the dancers are on point, the light playfulness between one scene to the next, wow I mouth drop open several times. They make me dance, laugh, concern and have one of the greatest nights. Its an amazing theater, play and If you want and can go do not hesitate and do it now, when the furthest seats have a great view. Love the music, love the ambiance, to the Broadway people please keep doing what you do, you bring joy and make possible the impossible. If youre in town go to see it, you wont regret it.
Moulin Rouge is my favorite movie, so we were super excited to be able to fit this new musical into our 36 hour visit to New York City. Visually, it was awesome! With lots of lights, glitter and very extravagantly detailed props. The music was mostly just like the movie, but theyve added a ton of newer music. The newer music added to the story in a fun and often funny way. The singing was phenomenal and the dancing was outstanding! While they couldnt fill the shoes of Ewan McGregor and Nicole Kidman, but honestly who could, the two leads were still amazing and they looked comfortable together. Get yourself tickets as soon as you can, as Im sure this musical is going to blow up! It is spectacular, spectacular!
I have to tip my hat off to Al Hirschfeld Theatre and how it was ran. When I went to go to see Moulin Rouge it was pouring rain and I didnt have an umbrella and was dreading getting soaked in the line to enter the theatre. The staff was getting everyone in so quickly there was no wait. Also, they saw i didnt have an umbrella and told me skip the line and come in which was so nice. Security was so fast and efficient.During intermission there is only one restroom for men upstairs. The line was long but went so quickly. I waited less than 5 minutes, the restrooms are pretty big for Broadway theatres. I also appreciate they have two drinking fountains with mini-cups you can get free water if needed. Best ran theatre in NYC. Good job guys. Staff was very nice.
I attended during a preview for Moulin Rouge and the theatre has been transformed for the show. There are subtle things like the windmills in the crown molding and sconces that work with the the magic of the set design to truly transport you to Moulin Rouge. For accessibility, there are no steps up from the street or in the orchestra level. Though they did not bring my chair for the intermission, it was so crowded and buzzing it might have been for the better to avoid the crowds. Staff was friendly and very helpful (though the merch booth attendant was less so but understandable when dealing with the crowd).
Very lovely theater! U can feel the history as u walk inside. It has a vintage look but is still modern enough to enjoy today. If I were an actress, Id be honored to perform there!! There really isnt a bad seat in the house but the closer u are the better, but I think thats more of a personal preference thing. I saw Kinky Boots there for my bday last week, so I wanted to feel like I was in the show so I got Orchestra seats. I was only sad I was mid orchestra and not front row, I wanted to get pulled on stage hahaha the only downside was I so happen to be next to some annoying seatmates who kept getting up every minute, that was so annoying ugh but u cant control people and their etiquette. Seat were a little small but guess that would lend to the history of the theater as well. Again, wherever u sit in there its not bad, theater isnt overly large so u should be able to get a good view anywhere in the house!
You pay a LOT of $$ for an excellent performance, but its downright DEMEANING to be crammed into these seats and physically suffer through a show. I purposely chose an aisle seat but even that didnt help solve the problem.Thats a problem that needs to be addressed throughout almost all of the Broadway theaters.Kudos, however, to the ushers who were not reluctant to address selfish patrons who insisted on taking off their masks during the performance.
Beautiful theatre built in 1924. As with most theaters in the district, they arent huge so there, literally isnt a bad seat in the house. Make sure you take time to look up, this is a wonderfully ornate theatre. This theatre has a wonderful history, written actors ranging from Basil Rathbone to David Radcliffe performing there.
At first I was pleased that the theater was so small. I thought I had the best view. But once the person in front of me showed up, I couldnt see at all. The seats are not staggered, so I had to keep bobbing from side to side to see anything at all. My center seat was horrible. Really ruined the experience.
I really liked this theatre. Although, it was very tight and cozy. There is not much elbow or leg room. Its like sitting on a Frontier airline flight! Lol! The coziness did guarantee, there was not really a bad seat in the house. I went there to see the Broadway show Kinky Boots and it was awesome!!! I laughed. I cried and laughed again!!!
On 9-28-2021, I purchased two Orchestra tickets for MOULIN ROUGE at a cost of $348.30. Subsequently, my husband and I contracted for a home in a 55+ retirement community that will be available to us on 3-31-2022. We did not know we would find our dream home when we purchased the tickets. The Theatre refuses to refund our $348.30, even though this is the hottest show on Broadway (winner of 10 Tony Awards). We are seniors with limited income. We are giving the Theatre ample notice to resell those seats. In fact, we dont even have the actual tickets, only an email confirmation. We will likely never attend another Broadway show, although before the pandemic, we saw 4-5 even year. Shameful Theatre!
Had a wonderful experience seeing Moulin Rouge! The theater was charming and matched the look of the show perfectly. Staff was polite and efficient with herding the masses of people, but 15 mins just isnt long enough for intermission! Also, the drinks are served in reusable cups which are nice, in theory, but I would have preferred a recyclable cup that I could have discarded. I understand the benefit of reusable cups, but we ended up carrying them all around Times Square after the show and that was a bit annoying.
First, the obvious: I cannot recommend Moulin Rouge enough. Ive been an Aaron Tveit fan for years and after the COVID shutdown postponed my tickets, I finally made it from Chicago to see this show. I was so impressed by every single detail and plan to come back and see it again as soon as possible. The theater is stunning. Every detail, both specific to the show and in general, is beautiful. Staff was friendly and enforcing COVID policies, so I felt safe. The seats were narrow, as many theater seats are, and as a plus-size person it was a bit of a squeeze. However, as a six foot tall woman, I actually had more leg room than I expected. I had a really great experience here!
Saw Kinky Boots.. front row orchestra center at Al Hirschfeld..truly an amazing and highly entertaining production .. Ive never been in the front row but splurged for the kids and it was totally worth it! It was so cool to sit above the pit and next to the conductor. The kids stayed afterwards to meet the leads. The actors were as wonderful and gracious off stage as they were on set.
Mixed experience. The venue is certainly beautiful. We saw Moulin Rouge last Friday night. We were a little disappointed the at some parts of the show our view was obstructed. When the performers came out to the catwalk / forward part of the stage we couldnt see them from our seats up top. Its not in being far, its the angle of elevation. We definitely didnt get a sense for that from the seat map when we purchased the tickets.Apart from that the drink prices were ridiculous but maybe thats just Broadway? Bar staff were friendly and efficient, definitely give them props delivering fast but great service. Speaking of drinks, heres a tip if youre planning on seeing a show here: plan on holding it or missing part of the show. The bathrooms at intermission are completely ridiculous. The ushers were helpful and friendly with the exception of one really cantankerous rude (word starting with A that rhymes with pothole) who is the main reason for the 2 stars. When the show ended we stayed seated to let the crowd dissipate. We started down the stairs and we prepared to take a selfie with the set in the background. There was no one on stage. Just as I was extending my arm one of the employees yells at the top of his lungs from across the theater NO MORE PICTURES, THE SHOW IS OVER!! GO HOME!! I looked over in shock to which he yells PUT YOUR MASK BACK ON!! I had lowered my mask for 10 seconds to take the picture.I was completely appalled that after paying hundreds of dollars for tickets and patiently waiting for people to thin out rather than contribute to the stampede for the exit that this man couldnt tolerate one more picture. Wow, just wow.And that, unfortunately was our last impression. Good job ruining what was otherwise a good night sir, your customer service is abysmal. I hope you managed to remove what ever it was that was up your posterior.
Moulin Rougeβ¦Ok seriously just go and buy the best seats you can. Or any seat. Just go.Itβs hilarious. The set is stunning. The songs have been updated / modernized. The cast is sooooo damn talented.Itβll a roller coaster of emotions.Took the love of my life on our first date. ππ
Beautiful theater inside & out. Just recently watched Moulin Rouge! However if u need the Ladies Rm (or d Mens Rm too, but not as bad, cuz our plumbing is different & easier than women!) be warned! Cuz if Im not mistaken, theres only 1 Mens & Ladies Rm. Hopefully u have camel genes!
Freedom, beauty, truth and love is really the heart behind the stars of this spectacular performance! I cried, laughed and got chills from this show. While Broadway is a bucket list must, I feel I couldnβt have picked a better show to be my first Broadway experience!
Security knew what they were doing. Ordering merchandise in advance helped keep lines down. The ushers do need brighter flashlights. We had one trying to stop a lady in front of us from taking pictures and if the flashlight had been brighter and aimed on the lens then we wouldnt have been distracted away from the show for as long as we were.

2022-06-23One of the classic theaters that make New York a global epicenter of live performances. The theater layout has good viewing even from the balcony seats for Moulin Rouge - a terrific and energetic performance which I highly recommend. For intermission there are mens restrooms on the upper floor, as well as a bar for drinks. If you are tall, note the leg room between seating rows is very limited, recommend to get an aisle seat.

2022-05-21Fabulous theatre with an amazing show and truly efficient layout! Highly recommend seeing Moulin Rouge and experiencing the fun of the show. I loved that at the end, there were side doors in the theatre that opened on to the street to allow an easy exit. Absolutely stunning space to be in.

2021-12-13I absolutely loved this place, it was amazing! One of the best experiences Ive had in my life seen Moulin Rouge. I see why they won so many awards it was phenomenal. They were definitely on top of the mandated law mask and it was very clean and I will never forget it for the rest of my life. It was worth every single penny that I spent, well actually I didnt buy the tickets they were bought for for me, but you know what I mean. From the second you walk in those doors you are taken to Moulin Rouge. Five stars is just not enough !!! The actors and actresses where wonderful. I would definitely go back and see it again and again πππβ€

2022-08-12I have not visited lots of theatres in Broadway, so cannot compare with others, but I loved it. We booked Orchestra tickets (line L) for Moulin Rouge, very close to the stage. I guess seats are very narrow everywhere, so I cannot complaint for this either. Amazing experience all in all.

2022-05-30Where do i begin... Got the tickets to Moulin Rouge, was expecting the original songs and somewhat interesting show, but when it started, i was mind-blown. The cast, costumes, songs were redone and the entire show was outstanding. The room was not huge and even though i got the inexpensive tickets, the stage was well visible. The staff in the theater are very friendly (as long as you comply with rules and regulations) and professional to communicate with. Over all, i want to go to the show again as the entire show was super enjoyable and i personally did not want it to end. Thank you for this amazing and beautiful remake of the show.

2022-08-18A very beautiful and spacious theatre. We were there for Moulin Rouge. The stage for the play Moulin Rouge is among one of the most detailed and elaborate. Itβs the old classic story, but always a pleasure to watch

2022-08-19Not the most comfortable seating! But itβs the show that makes the experience. We were there for Moulin Rouge. Absolutely amazing! The whole production was just amazing! Love every bit of it!Itβs not a big theatre, therefore when checking out their floor-plans (for seating options), you are actually much closer to the stage than youβd think.

2022-05-06Excellent theatre. Small and cozy. The seating was a bit close but not too bad unless youβre well over 6β tall and wider than average. Consider asking for accessible seating if youβre physique required larger accommodations so you wonβt be cramped and uncomfortable. Also, it gets crowded to consider getting there early. The restroom situation is a bit tricky. Even the menβs line was long during intermission so prepare for that. If your show includes VIP access opt for that. We opted for it at the last minute and it was well worth it. We were let right in while everyone else was in line and whisked away to a private room with a private restroom and bar area. It was intimate and convenient. We had easy access to the theatre and our seats. During intermission we went right back to the VIP room and did not have to wait for concessions or the restroom. We actually preordered our concessions and they were waiting at our reserved VIP table when we got there during intermission. Damon was our VIP host and he was super amazing! He deserves kudos for how well he took care of everyone in there.Back to the show. It was amazing! I mean, amazing! The sound could have been a little louder but it was amazing. We sat in the 100βs section of Row D, orchestra level and it was perfect. We were able to see everything and the performers were great. The aisle attendees were a bit rude to some people but I guess they were just doing their jobs? Exiting after the show took a while but like I said earlier it is a small theatre. I highly recommend it!!!!

2022-05-25Saw Moulin Rouge here. The show is amazing!!!! Theater is nice. Few comments; 1. Hard to see the entire show from the Mezzanine. Highly recommend only purchasing lower level seats to be sure to see the entire performance area. 2. The ladies bathroom is way down in the basement of the place! Thats a pain. Rather a lot of elderly women struggling with the flights of stairs to use the restroom. Age of theater, Im sure, just kinda stinks being so far away.

2022-06-12Wowβ¦. What a fantastic theatre in particular, a theatre most suited to showing Moulin Rouge. We are regular theatre goers and have had some great experiences over the years but going to see Moulin Rouge at the Al Hirschfeld in New York was quite something else.Moulin Rouge is a hot, sexy and atmospheric show but the right environment is required to maximise the impact of the experience and the Al Hirschfeld is the perfect setting for this show.Only a few minutes walk from Times Square this theatre is perfectly placed for theatre and Broadway lovers alike. A lovely and dramatically presented theatre that made our visit into one of the best theatre experiences we have ever had.The design, architecture and history to this theatre creates a perfect setting and drama for this most wonderful show.If you find yourself in The Big Apple and have the opportunity to attend a Broadway show at the Al Hirschfeld then do not hesitate to book tickets.
