Al-Sham in other cities:
The place was so hot. They don’t seem to have an AC. Not a clean place. Food is good though, shawarma was amazing.they really need to fix the power outlets here. This is a safety hazard. I guess OSHA never paid a visit to this place. They smoke inside the kitchen next to the meat and the restroom smells super bad. Super bad experience.they never clean the place it’s always dirty I don’t know how can someone eat there.
Great food. Everything Ive had is delicious. Eat here at least once a week. The only thing that needs work is that they constantly mess up orders. Something is usually missing or just wrong. Wait time has gotten better, although you still wait for at least 20 minutes for a sandwich. Definitely suggest ordering at least 30 minutes ahead and checking your order before you leave.
Terrible customer service. I ordered two shawarma wraps with fries. A family of 4-5 ordered AFTER us and the lady served them alllll their wraps before us. I brought it up and she was irritated and came up with a dumb excuse instead of just apologizing that she served the whole family before me. Went up and asked for my money back, to which she gave me a dirty look. I like the food but I will not be back.
This place is a gem.Chicken shawarma with fries, Arabic style is …Delish to the power of Infiniti, quite literally.I think it’s the bread… and the chicken. And everything!I practically never eat veggies, but… I can eat their veggies without grimacing.Odd!Maybe it’s the way they prep it? I haven’t the slightest of ideas, really. It’s just amazing, this place. You are totally missing out, if you’ve yet to try.Growing up, I never really saw any Syrian restaurants in Brooklyn. Now this place is my go-to, Syrian or not.As a heads up, Cash Only, electronic payments not accepted.
Chicken Shawarma Sandwich with Garlic Sauce is delicious. Their manu is full of options. I loved the spices on the Fries 🍟 it gave the fries a good flavor. This place is great but they need to upgrade and start to accept cards as payments. Its 2021 not alot of people carry cash around. I recommend it 👌 to everyone. You will love it
It is a good place to eat shawarma and shish tawook but the problem in this place that it is sometimes makes delicious food and other time the shawarma is not good. They have to work in maintenance their quality because it is the only place in area that make shawarma on Syrian way.
The best schwarma in NYC. Excellent service, great prices for the most flavorful, authentic and delicious schwarma I have tasted in my entire life. The owner and staff are so warm, welcoming, and talented - always a pleasant experience! Any time my friends or family come to the city, I bring them here, and they are ALWAYS blown away. Do yourself a favor and go!
We had the chicken shawarma, hummus, and fries and every thing was delicious and reasonably priced. The service was no-frills, the food came really quickly. I didnt like that they are cash only, but I understand from their perspective its more money in their pocket rather than the credit card companies, so I support it.
Really not as great as the reviews make it to be. Only cash. Shawarma tastes ok. Customer service is zero. They don’t make you feel welcome there and one could say even disrespectful, both face expressions and voice tone. They make you feel like you are burdening then with the order and that they are doing you a favor selling you food. My friend came here and the lady cashier was on her phone and gave him attitude. Never going back and do not recommend it. Tons of other spots in bayridge
Atmosphere is nice but mostly over crowded here in the evening. everything they serve fresh and delicious, this was our favorite one stop for dinner before COVID-19 to dine inn.Until I order on phone they screwed up my order, I will not make order over phone here again.
This is NOT typical your cookie cutter middle eastern spot!Absolutely delicious! This is our 2nd visit and we are in LOVE!!❤️ The bread on the sandwiches are outof this world. In such a short time, they won the love of all Bay Ridge and the rest of NY with their tasty grilled meats and to die for hummus. Prices are great 💙
While making an order at the place one of the employees had gotten political while customers were trying to receive their order and when a customer made a complaint telling them to mind their own business they had answered back with a bad attitude. Aside from this employee tho the others are respectful, but otherwise this employee needs to focus on his work and not have any political side conversations...
This place is true hidden gem in nyc. Only those who know, know. Im even hesitant about leaving this review because my friends and I come here so often. Its probably the best shawarma Ive had in the US, despite the fact that they usually only have chicken and I prefer lamb. I wish there were many places like this, but what can you do.
Having never visited before, the reviews here seemed to suggest an amazing experience. However, instead my group was met with difficulty and annoyance in receiving our food and definitely when paying. When bringing our food, one individual was told that their plate wasnt what they ordered despite it being theirs. Taking it away for some time, they brought the same plate back later. Having made a separate side order while eating, my group was given another full meal. We told them this isnt what we had just ordered, and the server shrugged off confusedly while walking away.As you pay once you finish eating, our order was misunderstood despite having it being written down and read back at this time. To move forward with paying, the group had to individually state what was ordered and how much. Then the topic of that extra meal was brought up, and eventually the staff brushed it off as if it were our mistake being forgiven. To avoid this huge ordeal, Al-sham needs to re-evaluate when customers pay. Perhaps paying right upon ordering is best.As for the food itself, the meals were good yet how they were prepared took away from a fully enjoyable plate. None of our sandwiches--although being more akin to wraps--had anything added inside to it. Instead, lettuce, tomato, pickles, and sauce were placed on plates. With the presentation of food, you can successfully add any if these displaced items to your main meal aside from the sauce and even substitute the bland sauce for hummus. It would be welcomed by many if these toppings were added go the sandwich itself.
I was so disgusted by what I saw the employee do, that I walked out without trying the food. The employee made a sandwich, while wearing gloves, and then proceeded to handle money while wearing the gloves. The gloves were not changed for clean ones before he started touching the chicken shawarma to prepare my order. I could have shrug this off as a mistake if it wasnt for the fact that he touched all of the meat.Maybe the employees should go take a look at what Karam and Istanbul do. They have respect for the customers and for food safety. One person handles all the money while other employees prepare the food.
Worst quality food. Thinnest kafta meat, minimal shawerma in your sandwich (all bread!). They don’t want to take credit cards so they don’t pay tax, then they will charge you tax on your CASH only payment- shady business owner! If they quality of the food doesn’t get better, they will shortly go out of business.
OH MY GOD!!! People always post when they have a horrible experience! BUT I couldn’t hold myself back without giving this place a 5 star review! This place has the BEST shawirma I have had in America! I have been to the majority of the biggest cities and have had friends take me to “the best” shawirma place but NOTHING compares to what I just experienced! It was so delicious I forced myself to eat a second one! My soul went to Syria and came right back!!!!!!
The type of place that’ll have you coming back for more, more, and more. This is one of the few (only) places in NYC that can truly replicate the feeling of biting into a shawarma in the Middle East.I have only tried the shawarma here, but that is all you need to worry about. That and possibly a side order of fries along with the drink of your choice.Let me start with each layer:Outer: the bread is made in-house and perfected to crunch / melt just the right amount with each bite.Inner: an appropriate mix of veggies that isn’t overwhelming and provides a tasteful complement to the expertly grilled shawarma chicken (or beef/lamb on Sundays).External: the toum (garlic sauce) is to die for. Mix it with some ketchup for a unique kick. Dip your fries and shawarma into this mix to earn yourself the most heavenly of shawarma bites one could ask for.PRO TIP: order a large number of shawarmas and get the VIP treatment by having them serve you on a silver tray platter. If you’re lucky you may even get a dash of their speciality pomegranate molasses sauce 😉
For those are looking to experience the authentic Syrian street food, look no further. Shawerma Al Sham which means shawerma of Damascus , Syrias capital city. Damascus and Aleppo have long history of food rivalry and the argument will never settle on which city provides the best shawerma. Shawerma alsham is not trying to settle that argument but it is bringing you the same bite from Damascus right to your neighborhood in Brooklyn. Seize that chance!

2022-06-27Good shawarma; however, their air conditioners dont work. Its an enclosed small space without any ventilation, so its unbearable and unhealthy to eat inside, especially in the summertime. They take only cash, which is annoying for people who dont carry cash on them. They tip themselves in the bill and add tax - the cashier told me the food is $14 without explaining what the additional cost was for - didnt even tell me the exact price that Im paying for which obviously wasnt $14. This is scam to me!

2022-01-16I absolutely love the food and service here at Al-Sham! Everyone is very sweet and ensures the best experience while dining in.I highly recommend their chicken shwarma which come with masala fries and pickled veggies — a simple but flavorful and filling dish

2021-10-17When @safaduffa and I got married 4 years ago we ended our honeymoon in NYC to visit our friend @mrafeyq.Rafey had just discovered what he believes to be the best shawarma in NYC (@el_sheldon allegedly might have been there) and tbh neither of us had ever had a good shawarma.Since we went to Al-Sham the first time we go nearly everytime weve gone back, and often we go with a group that requires a platter full of shawarma. This shawarma is so good for the following reasons:1. Meat: both the chicken and the lamb here are delicious, slow cooked and tender.2. Consistency: the meat paired with the bread thats slightly crispy, nice garlic sauce its just fun to eat3. Fries: nice and crispy, topped in seasoning, perfect pairing for a shawarma. If youre in Brooklyn check out Al-Sham

2022-06-23Where do I begin? To start the customer service was beyond horrible, I was honestly speechless that this is how they treat their first time guests. The food? I’m a humble man eat whatever wherever no matter the price but the food was so bad I would rate this a -1 if I can with all due respect.

2019-06-21SYRIA 🇸🇾Eat the World NYC review:Like many shawarma and gyro joints on 5th Avenue, Al-Sham has a spit right in the window. But the colossal rotating mass of chicken speaks to you almost in a different language. The meat just seems better than anything youve seen up and down the street. Or is that just the imposing size? Any place that plans on serving enough shawarma to get rid of this gigantic beauty must mean business.Like first sampled at a nearby Jordanian restaurant Ruzana, Arabic-style shawarma ($7) seems to be taking over Bay Ridge. These sandwiches are served with the thin taboon or laffa flatbread popular in the Levant, crisped on the grill, and cut into sections. The fries ($2 extra on sandwich orders) are dusted with a subtle spice mix that makes them just a bit more enjoyable than most, probably not even needing the ketchup that sits at every table.
