Alfred State College in other cities:
One of the worst experiences of my life, if you think this is a good college for your kids, it’s not. The teaching staff doesn’t care about actually teaching, the UP Officers will ticket you every time you park ANYWHERE and the food is absolutely atrocious. If you’re planning to make your kids depressed this is a perfect college for you. Lastly, good luck trying to apply, the admissions office at Alfred state were trained by monkeys, as well as most of the people working for Alfred state. All together just a horrible school with horrible people, as well as a money making scheme. President skip has decided to also increase the billing for sporting teams almost five times as much as the billing for acedemics, resulting in a school with poor sporting teams and academics. I will never be proud to call myself an alumni from this god forsaken school. Not impressed.
We have loved our experience here! My husband and I both attend and it has the perfect small town feel. Professors really care about the students however there were a few online professors I didnt like. I know the school actually looks at student reviews and have fired staff for not doing well withthe students so if you have a problem speak up and make sure administration knows if someone isnt doing their job. There is more selection than taco bell and pizza hut lol. There is a burger shack type place next to taco bell, a cafeteria style buffet upstairs and a sub and wing shop by pizza hut in a seperate building. If you have a hott date dont order wings from 10 elm, you have been warned.Wifi can be shotty. Literally every wednesday afternoon last semester it went down but they usually have it back up in a reasonable time.Favorite profesors were Dr. Bustamante (sociology) and her husband (spanish), Dr. Lynk (anatomy and physiology), Dr. Waldeis (online science courses), and David Leone (cross cultural anthropology). Dont take spanish or effective speaking online.
Ive attended a number of schools since my Days at Alfred and have never got the quality of education that I received at Alfred. All others pale when compared to Alfred. I think I graduated #1 in my class with a GPA of 3.3. At Alfred, As were for God, Bs were for the teacher and Cs were for outstanding students. If you want an education apply at Alfred ... Its easy to get accepted but difficult to graduate from - I loved Alfred
For those who live in the five boroughs of NYC I highly suggest not coming to this college because of several factors such as no transportation, tuition is high, food is horrible, and rascism is definitely present when it comes to the professors and students. One professor stated, I dont think this college is right for you, maybe you would be better off transferring somewhere else. I was having difficulty in one of my classes and the professor didnt even try to help me. I suggest if you can go to a HBCU or a CUNY college instead of giving this racist institution your money, they do not care about you all they want is your money. This was in 2015, so I know it didnt get better do your research before you attend any of these colleges.
I agree the college is not exactly good but what 1 person would say is good another person might say thats not Good whats expensive for one may be cheap for another doesnt matter no money is worth this college whatever you think is cheap whatever you think is expensive is irrelevant this is not the place to go I attended I graduated And I can personally I test to and also agree with a lot of the other negative comments I have just looked at Also the one that said people are racist their racism goes both ways but there deffinatly more so to others I was also told that I do not belong there I happen to be a white male I just happen to have long hair and a bandana on they dont like that I looked so different or whatever who knows I would stay away or at least try to pick a different place Theyre really good business people meaning theyre good at scamming people. And students are racist to other students. Like I said I was a white male that dont even fit in and I didnt have an issue either way with the racist there is a different type of breed they were raised differently then people that were raised in NYC/long island. Also dont say you lived in weiland because everyone will just think that that means youre rich Its the back woods up there so there are A lot of what they called farm boys Basically there is a mad rednecks and 0 girls And Im not being racist towards the redneck I know its a derogatory term I dont mean it that way at all in fact like I said I was friends With all however I did see racist things being done or said to people by faculty and students. If you care enough and you read this entire post trust me try anywhere else Was one of the funnest party places but not ever at a Frat house party I dont even have a comment on any of that I personally dont get why anyone would want to. If you can handle your ship and take care yourself on the street you will have a lot of fun but if you cannot I dont know what would happen to you I honestly I can tell you I personally saids a female from 2 males trying to do something to Her and they would not even let her have her phone back as she was crying and screaming for help in the middle of the street in a short dress in the middle of Winter in snow something was really wrong with that picture and no one seemed to care. I wonder what would have happened if I didnt go over to the 2 guys and got her phone back and had a bouncer that happened to be near me At a bar I was friends with Along with 3 other guys walk her back to Room because she was that afraid. This is wrong!!!!!!!!!! Should never be a thing But I think whats worse is how everyone walked right by
I wish I could give this school no stars and a billion thumbs down. They rushed me to get my fafsa completed along with my tap and admissions gave me hard time with mix information on a CERTIFICATE program NOT DEGREE program that I wanted to get into all because they did not want to accept an unofficial transcript from a college IM ALREADY ATTENDING and wait later for an official transcript. From the Admissions head whomever her name was kept trying to give me so called school policy and was clearly not hearing me out or understand my frustration or at least try to see where I was coming from. I am already in another school where they are not even asking for my degree information because again I am in the CERTIFICATE program so why would this school need all of my official information when NO DEGREE IS GOING TO BE GIVEN. They are all full of it and when I called and asked for my information to be discarded that the school can buzz off the admission head tells me that they keep your information until 12months and then they discard it. Well I wanted my information discarded ASAP!!!! They do not need to hold on to my personal information and if they do not I will sue this school and those individuals personally. This school is the freaking worse!!!!!!!!!!! This is why I do not go to or attend colleges in NY! Wonderful place to live but the colleges just like this one are full of crap!
Avoid their online RN to BSN program!!! Since their bright star- Dr. Harmon- left, they are increasingly disorganized and unapproachable. The assignments are hard to find on their website; the syllabuses are confusing and self-contradictory.The workload for one class is insane! For example NURS 7004 - 45 hours of clinical which we have to arrange ourselves; 55 pages of researched writing with APA citations (500 or 750 word APA assignment weekly and two large project papers), community education project- assess, plan, execute, evaluate, write another huge report with photos. ONE class is a half time job!!! God help you if you are trying to take more than one class and working full time!).In contrast to the ultra-heavy workload placed on students, some professors are scarce- rarely showing up to comment on the discussion forums and with sometimes months long delays in grading assignments. And I have given up attempting to clarify or question by e-mail as I have found the responses rude and condescending- blaming me instead of taking responsibility for a contradictory syllabus or their own website errors.Too late for me to drop out with thousands of dollars already invested. Not too late for you though!
Damn... I just read all of the reviews. Good luck Evan! This place is in the middle of nowhere, but you seem like a country boy anyway. Hell! This might just be your bread n butter! Ay... With your skillz, you could even whip em up a couple new buildings while youre there!😂😂

2022-04-13Been living in Alfred my whole life. So my review is bias but I love this college. Love the area. If you love the outdoors and receiving a great college education this the school for you. College is what you make of it. Yes it’s small and in the middle of nowhere but the people are welcoming, the college has plenty of clubs to join, there’s plenty of country side to go drive or even walk around the area. Alfred State college is such an amazing college.

2015-03-23The school is really a good school if you like smaller locations where you get to know everyone. I worked in the admissions office and got to see sides of the school that normal students did not. Unfortunately I had issues with the financial aid offices being a bit slow, but everything eventually got taken care of. Small town = lots of friends. Not having a car here CAN be an issue if you need things like groceries, but there are buses that run from campus to the nearest shopping locations in Hornell.

2014-02-04Like the school, nice setting. Safe. Faculty mostly good and engaging also easily accessible and helpful. Administratively needs some help with business ethics. Students treated like numbers and lots of rhetoric on the Administrative side of things Student Engagement and leadership opportunities abound! Friendly student body. The town of Alfred is lovely.

2019-03-15Terrible school academically and athletically. It’s in the middle of nowhere, horrible internet, terrible food and what you pay in tuition you could attend a modern, top notch school. Also good luck finding a well paying job when you put this school on your resume. It’s remedial education from a 1-800 school. Go elsewhere.
