I came to Alibi on a recommendation from a friend, i was in the city briefly but really needed a cut. I have super picky hair, curly in some places, wavy in others, but my stylist really took the time to give me something crafted so i can wear it natural and i can smooth it out if Im feeling frisky. Everyone was super friendly and i felt i was listened to and not just given some wonky whatever the stylist wanted cut. Ill definitely be back on my next visit!
Amanda May is my colorist and she is simply amazing. She originally corrected my hair from a reddish/brassy blonde and brought it back to more ash tones. I will not let anyone else touch my hair at this point. She truly is an expert at color and knows just what to do to get the result I want. I have been seeing her for about a year now and every experience is perfect. Cannot recommend her enough!
Amazing experience at Alibi salon. Had Koby Ben cut and style my hair. He completely changed my look and made me feel young and hip again. His knowledge about hair and using natural hair products was unusual and educational. Really made a difference the way my hair feels and looks. Getting tons of compliments
I could be the pickiest person when it comes to choosing a stylist to cut my hair. When my former stylist moved to Paris, I didnt know how I would match him. I found Alibi online on Allures best salon picks and asked for the best stylist for short hair. Koby has cut my hair for two years now, and Amanda has colored it for one year, and my hair has never looked or felt better. Their products are the best Ive ever used, and everyone in the salon is professional and wonderful. You will feel at ease, relaxed and taken care of from the moment you walk in- and get an amazing hand and scalp massage to boot!
One of the best salons I’ve ever visited in NYC, from start to finish! Upon arrival, I was greeted by friendly staff who offered me a complimentary drink, so I endulged in a glass of champagne.Afterwards, my hair stylist, with whom I booked the appointment (Koby) sat me down and advised me on the best cut for my hair, while taking into consideration all of my needs and wants. Thereafter, he did his magic and cut my hair exactly how I had imagined, reviving it and adding style to it.After my cut, I proceeded to the salons coloring station where a friendly stylist created the perfect color concoction for my hair via a single process color. The results= fabulous. Very natural looking and close to my natural color but added gloss and depth.Overall experience was A+++, I am a difficult client but the staff at Alibi really took the time to listen to me and even taught me which products to use and how to style my hair. Definitely worth the money and I will definitely be a return customer!
Alibi Soho is the best salon in NYC & Amanda May is the best of the best: she makes me look gorgeous every time!!! Ask for Amanda! I refuse to get my hair done by anyone else! I have dark thick hair and she knows how to highlight it in a way that really brightens it but looks so natural and grows out beautifully! After I leave the salon, my hair feels soft and nourished and never crunchy from the due! She really listens to what you what you want and GETS it! Its also way less pricy than most NYC salons for better quality service!Of the hundreds of hair dressers Ive been to over the years, she takes the prize! I would recommend Amanda May to anyone!
Ann is the best hair colorist and stylist Ive ever been to (and Ive been to so so many). She is so patient and is really amazing at what she does. I came in with really botched hair that was completely fried and over processed from a couple other salons. She really transformed me and Ive never been happier with a salon experience. I finally feel confident and like myself again and I felt comfortable with her.She sees color really well and is great with placement of balayage and highlights. Definitely someone who takes their time rather than does the same placement on everyone. She does both color and cut which is very rare to find at a salon. Her style is so natural and does the most beautiful soft blonde balayage.Love her so so so much and couldnt recommend someone more!
This is my new favorite salon - I cant imagine going anywhere else! Koby is the most artistic, visionary stylist Ive ever met, and he always takes time and care to make my curls look perfect. I was so happy to run into Amanda at Alibi because finding a great stylist in this city can be harder than finding a mate. She’s been really great from the start when she took her time to understand what I wanted and somehow, through her attentiveness and creative magic, made it better than I thought it could be. Was initially self-conscious about the grays, but she’s shown me that with the right flair it all works. She and everyone at Alibi is wonderful and would highly recommend them.
This salon deserves all five stars and more! I had May as my colorist and Igor styled my hair. These two were amazing! I asked for grey to be melted into my natural blonde and the color came beautifully. My hair is naturally pin straight and doesnt hold a curl but Igor gave me beachy waves that lasted 2 days! I loved every minute I spent in this salon and will definitely be back!♡

Just had a haircut done by Giedrius at Alibi NYC. He really took the time to listen what I wanted, gave great suggestions and result couldnt be better. Im absolutely in love with my new hair! Turns out my hair is not frizzy, but was an aftermath of prior bad haircuts. And that head massage during hair wash - O-la-la )))Im definitely coming back for more 5 star treatment!
Ive been going here for over a year now and I am obsessed. Amanda May is a hair savior and I have gone to her for everything from light balayage, to extreme makeover (dark brown to blonde), hair cuts for just half an inch and cuts for 3+ inches, keratin... you name it. Amanda is the absolute best and I have left every appointment 100% happy. Its come to the point where I just go in and say do whatever you think looks good. Let me start by saying that I live in Los Angeles, and I will wait until I go to New York to get my hair done because I havent found anyone that comes close to the magic that Koby works on my hair. From the moment you walk in to the salon you are treated like a celebrity. Hand massages, head massages, and champagne--its the real salon experience and once youve been to Alibi you wont want to go anywhere else! Koby has cut my hair 3 or 4 times now, and its always a flawless, stylish cut that people literally stop me on the street to compliment. If you are lucky enough to get an appointment with him, TAKE IT!! I usually bring in a photo of what I want, and he tailors the concept to fit my face shape and hair type, and Im always really happy with the results. Not to mention that his cuts grow out in a way that somehow makes them get better and better (which is great since I only get to NY 1-2 times/year)! Hes a genius. Period. Ive had my hair colored by both Nina and Natalie, and theyre both amazing. Not only are they masters with color, theyre also super friendly and very cool. I had highlights/balyage and all over color, and its always even better than I expected! Its the best hair cut and color Ive ever had, and Ill never trust anyone else. Run, dont walk here!

After washing it; I don’t love it. It has no shape and looks just a limp as before. Wish I would have known I had to buy all the products and everything else to get a haircut I’m not embarrassed to have. At least it winter and I can wear a hat until I can have someone fix it. Turns out I’m very disappointed for a $400 haircut. I pay less from a celebrity salon here in LA and get a better quality cut.
Amanda May is exquisite! She really exceeded my expectations by enriching my natural color and integrating some beautifully hand crafted balayage. Incredible Salon. They always get it just right. Amanda May can wash away the gray, or beaching it blonde, no matter what she does it is perfect. She is a perfectionist. She can make this 52 year old look 40, and I love it when she suggest a new cut that she things will accent my face. No better place to get a cut, color and have a drink too.

As a traveling consultant, my work has taken me everywhere across the nation. Regardless where I have been in the past 8 years, I have always gone back to Mr. Koby for my haircut. The reason is simply - Koby does it the best.My hair tends to be thick and can be quite challenging to manage yet this has never been for a problem for Kody. He has enjoyed the challenge and had fun working on it.On every visit, Koby would carefully trim it down and style it in the way that fits my busy work schedule. AND Koby has never stopped incorporating creativity into the process - hed try a new technique at one time and cut the back or the slides differently at another.I have little time in the morning to worry about my hair yet my client-facing job requires I look presentable at all times. I have loved the low maintenance yet high-quality nature of the cut that Kody has delivered each time. Not only does the fresh cut always look great, it also tends to grow very nicely. CONSISTENTLY great results from my experience with Amanda May for a great mens cut as well as mens color services. Her skills as a mens barber add to her value as a colorist at Alibi SoHo. Amanda offers a very thorough mens color consultation, not only listening to what you want but also suggesting adjustments based upon your skin coloring or hair type. She has shown a deep understanding of mens blonde haircolor concepts, achieving the level of blonde thats good for me as well as maintaining my blond color from visit to visit. Ive referred many friends for mens corrective coloring to repair or fix mens color mistakes that have happened elsewhere. Ask Amanda about mens hair products & color products to use after your appointment - she is very knowledgeable on mens hair care.
Ive been going to Alibi, and specifically Koby for many years. He is the best in the business. Always makes me look great and his whole team creates a wonderful experience. Head and hand massages, and hot towels are an awesome added bonus during shampooing sometimes. Get a glass of wine, relax and get a cut from one of the styling masters in NYC.
I read glowing reviews and so took myself to Alibi salon with much anticipation. I desperately needed a cut after not having time to have it done for >1 year! Unfortunately my experience was not as positive. I had really long hair and I wanted it shorter, layered and shaped so I could actually wear it down. I wanted it to be shoulder length at its shortest.Somehow I got the whole thing just chopped off. I was so horrified. But I returned after a week and wow! Igor totally fixed it .(He is pleasant and talented) . I went from totally crushed to feeling fabulous.So my advice is- if you try it out and leave feeling it isnt right, dont give up. This is a place you can hopefully trust to work with you until you get a great cut, a great look, a great feel.

I went there a few days ago. I was expecting the best after all the reviews that I read. Maybe I just had bad luck but my experience was awful. First the girl on the phone that took my appointment was very rude. Then I was been told the price for a hair colour would be around 250.. and it ended up to be 425?!?! I mean there is such a different ! And I could even accept the amount if the job done was good but that was the worst part. They completely messed up my hair. They bleached it for too long and now it’s super dry like burnt. It was supposed to be a light blonde and now I have my hair blue and white ? Can you imagine for someone to walk around this way ? I wasted 3 hours and 400 dollars to have my hair dry, blue and just horrible ! Terrible experience! This is the worst place I’ve been in. I could have spent 50 dollars in a cheap salon and they would probably made a better job. I wouldn’t recommend this place to my worst enemy. Stay away from here if you’re looking for someone with experience and passion. Maybe they know how to wash and dry but that’s all about it. Disgusting.
Koby is the best! I had a haircut at another salon which was a big disappointment, Koby managed not only to fix it but made it look amazing!! They charged 100 for a blow dry when my hair is very easy to blow out. Website says 55 and up. Blow dry was fine but I could have made it look the same had I done it at home. I live near the salon, like my hair, get it blown out all the time all over NY, and have never been charged like that before for just a blow out. With tips, it was 125.
Amanda May is fantastic at what she does. I have thick and unmanageable hair and have not found anyone in NYC who has been able to cut it perfectly until now. So glad to have found my amazing hair dresser.
This review is for Brett. He is a newcomer to Alibi via Dallas. He has cut my hair for the last 5 years and he is phenomenal. I have difficult thin frizzy hair (and used to be lots of it, not so much now). Brett knew exactly what to do with it to make it behave and help me grow it back out (post nasty divorce). It is as healthy as it has ever been and when I am in NY in the spring, I will be back in his chair. A true master!PS He recently moved to NY, 6 months single and straight. Go check him out!

If you are particular about your hair like me and in search of a great hairdresser, your search is over. I did exactly what you are doing, searching google for the top hairdresser in NYC. I was led to Koby and figured I had nothing to lose. From the moment I sat in Koby’s chair he knew exactly what my face needed, I didnt need to say a word. Being a decorator myself, I am pretty critical of hairdressers and in the past have never been truly happy with a cut. I have been searching for years for someone who can accentuate my features and bring out my best and Koby got it! He gave me a chic and sophisticated look that made me shine. I walked out of the salon a new woman! I feel confident and beautiful and that is all thanks to Koby.
I’ve hesitated to write this review for quite some time as I really did not want to have to write something negative. However, every single time I blow-dry my hair, I am frustrated all over again and felt compelled to say it. I urgently needed my hair done for an event and had read good reviews. I ended up seeing Brett for the cut, and gave him very simple instructions that I wanted a blunt cut—no layers, barring the few areas that had split ends or layers from previous cuts. My hair has layers EVERYWHERE, and I specifically asked that he not add any because I have fine hair, which makes it look shaggy and just frankly bad if I don’t curl it. I find this entire situation absurd because I paid over $100 for him to give me what should have been the equivalent of a trim. Instead, he went willy nilly on my haircut, and showed me the exact reason why I hate having to go anywhere new.
I couldnt have had a great time. I just reserved an hour and received an appointment right away. You will not be sorry. I finally found a legal salon and couldnt be more pleased with the treatment I received!
DO NOT!! The owner booked an appointment over the phone for my niece for a $40 treatment. He asked her if she wanted a blow dry but did not tell her they would charge her an additional $70 until checkout- at which point they charged $110- almost 3x the cost of the treatment. The owner refused to admit this was absurd and said she should have read the website. Horrible business. Take your money to any of the more reputable salons down the street who do not try to trick children.
Austin is the reason I keep coming back to this salon. My search for my soulmate stylist in NYC is over! He is amazing with my blonde color and keeps my processed hair looking fresh with amazing cuts. If you’re looking for balayage or traditional foil hilights and funny conversation, I highly recommend Austin!

Gorgeous hair salon. Located in the heart of SoHo, its a hip vibe, open space. The staff is excellent and cut hair like no ones business. They have some interesting artwork on the walls that I encourage you to take a look at. They offer hand massages to clients and makeup upon request.
Everyone at the salon is lovely and they made me feel so pampered and beautiful. If you ever need a blowout or a cut and color while your in the city, CHECK THIS PLACE OUT!

2022-03-25I went in and told the guy Kobe not to cut the long hair on top…. I just wanted to trim the sides and blend it up. I asked him on the phone and in person if he knew how to use clippers. He then did exactly what I asked him not to. Also he cut 4 inches off the top and said he didn’t. What’s worse is not only was the clipper a disaster and worst blend I ever saw he cut the top short and uneven. I told him I’m the best man in my cousins wedding on the weekend and he told me don’t worry. What a scumbag. The place is on the second floor and completely empty that should have been my first clue. STAY AWAY IF I COULD I WOULD HAVE LEFT A NEGATIVE STAR RATING I HATE THIS GUY

2022-03-01It was truly a wonderful experience, my hair looks amazing. I had very damaged, flat, streaky highlights, brassy, orange blonde hair, it was a mess! Koby gave me beautiful balayage while preserving the health of my hair and not using bleach. He also cut about 4/5 inches and gave me layers. I have honestly never been so pleased with a shorter hair cut. I feel completely refreshed and confident, he really takes every detail into consideration like even eye color. You will definitely feel the passion and creativity in Koby’s work. I absolutely recommend this place and will be coming back with my sister.

2021-09-1512/10 experience overall, BEST SALONTo start off this review I want to give background my hair was horrible going into any salon and I really needed a place that would fix everything from the flat shape to the color due to another overpriced salon sadly, ruining my curls. When looking for a salon I was intrigued initially seeing that alibi used hair care that is completely detergent free. This made me happy considering my hair is curly, temperamental and doesn’t react well to detergents, so I decided to call. I was able to get an appointment and I’m so glad I did. Initially going in I had a completely different idea as to how I wanted my hair to look, but I also did admit to needing help with what would look best on me and we decided that he could give my hair a much needed make over. All the products used smelled so nice and natural and felt extremely conditioning and lightweight on my curls. Not only did I appreciate the products used, my stylist Koby took the time to assess what was needed and consulted another stylist to make sure my hair would tone up snd turn out perfectly. When waiting for the dye to set, Koby told me I was able to go relax on the private salon patio, while I waited for a rinse, which is a rare find in New York and such a nice, comforting vibe. After washing, it was time for the hair cut; he suggested bangs, and a choppy, lots of layers cut, and I was open to any style so I let him roll with it. For my first ever set of bangs, I couldn’t be happier with the turnout. Koby really has an eye for choosing a style that not only fits your face, but your style and vibe. I can say with confidence that this was the best salon experience I’ve had thus far, and I never write reviews but this one was well deserved. I HIGHLY, HIGHLY suggest this salon, and thank you again Koby for the awesome hair makeover!

2018-08-26Amanda is the best stylist I’ve ever met. I have really challenging hair - it is curly, fine, has split ends, and also is grey in some areas - but every time I get my hair colored or cut and colored by Amanda, it looks awesome. She takes such care to make the cut just right and the blow dry absolutely perfect.Amanda also did my hair for my wedding recently (extensions and all) and I’ve never felt more confident about how my hair looked than that day. She also did my mom’s hair and the hair of 3 of my bridesmaids for my wedding and everyone looked fabulous. And Amanda had never worked on any of their hair prior.Besides being extremely skilled, Amanda is also super friendly and funny so spending the time with her at the salon (or most recently at the hotel getting ready all day for my weddding) is a great time. Highly recommend for anyone who is particular and expects excellence!

2021-03-08I love Koby and Alibi! I am very particular with my hair and what kind of haircut I want, and Koby always delivers! His haircuts last SO long - I always look like I got a fresh cut (I have longer hair) no matter how many months its been that I actually got it cut by Koby - hes a master. I always feel safe in his hands!

2020-07-28I highly recommend Koby for hair cut and color. Prior to the pandemic, I had my hair colored at a salon, and had never done this myself. However during the pandemic this was not possible. I colored my hair myself and used a product that badly damaged my hair. I went to Alibi Salon a couple of weeks ago for the first time with badly damaged hair. Koby gave me an excellent hair cut and recommended several products for my hair. I have been using these products exclusively, and the change in my hair has been miraculous! It went from frizzy and dry to soft and manageable. The color he recommended was perfect for my complexion The cut and color have truly transformed my appearance in the best way possible! 2016-11-16Without a doubt OBSESSED with Amanda May. I have never had such a fantastic experience getting my hair done. Great personality and really knows what she is doing. I cannot imagine letting anyone else do my white/grey hair. Its perfect and my hair is extremely healthy since we did it over time. I constantly get compliments on it. Her balayage work is also something that I lust over, and is flawless. Im so serious when I say you have to go see this wonderful woman for ANY hair need.

2019-12-27Flew in from Hong Kong & went to visit Koby for a cut & color. For a person that hasnt colored my hair in a long time and is super picky - I have to say that this is one of the best experiences I have had. Koby did a superb job with my hair cut and color. I was not expecting to go with the style I went with but I trusted Koby with his creative hands and he proved himself right. I plan to schedule my hair cuts with Koby when I fly in again. 2016-12-18Amanda is amazing! Not only is she great with cut and color, she is super fun to talk to! She will always give you her honest opinion and tell you what can and cant be done with your hair, which I really appreciate. Her cuts are awesome because they hold their shape for a long time and she has helped me go from bleached blonde back to my natural color seamlessly. I highly recommend her!

2018-08-08Had my first experience at Alibi with An, after my stylist moved to Miami. Very impressed with her consultation and suggestions that followed. After complaining about frizziness, she recommended the keratin blow out, which I tried and was very happy with the results. (Not to mention her cut was great too!) I will definitely be coming back!
