This place is cute but we ordered the wrong things. We ordered The Nibble for $36 and The Wee Tea for $33. Most definitely overpriced and it felt like a poor value. The cookies were very hard. If we came back, we would stick to the tea and scones only. The staff and interior were darling, but the food was blase.
A mixed experience. This is a nice and friendly cafe, but the food did not seem special or remarkable. The tea itself was excellent -- I had the starburst while my husband had the Darjeeling and both were topnotch. But the sandwiches were very blah, I could have put together much better stuff myself. The flavors in the description did not really translate into the execution. The scones were dry and came with a tiny serving of cream. The cookies and cake were slightly better. If you are value-conscious, skip this restaurant. We had a groupon and it still felt too expensive. As with so many other iconic New York restaurant experiences, one is paying a hype tax here as well.
I booked this place for a bridal shower. Its kind of pricy but so worth it, even with the covid restrictions. The staff was great and made sure everything went smoothly. They had a lot of different tasty tea. The food was good and catered to a wide variety of dietary needs. My personal favorite part was the cocktails. The tweedle-Dee and the white queen were both great. The mango mimosa was everything. I am definitely going here again.
Pretty sure there was only one person working the entire restaurant. It took about 20-25 minutes for the server to come to take our order. Now, at this point both my kids have lost it because it’s been additional 25 minutes since we ordered. Completely unacceptable for a NYC brunch.
We had the most delightful tea shop breakfast. My 13 yo daughter has loved Alice and Wonderland for years, so when I found this place on Google it was not a matter of if we would go, but when. Alas, that night they would be closed by the time we got there, so it just had to be our plan for breakfast the next morning. The decor is just right - whimsical without being overplayed. The eclectic teapots and tea cups (with saucers that dont match, of course!) was delightful. The food (we had scones and crepes) was wonderful. Our server was polite, attentive, and pleasant. It was simply delightful.
The place was supper adorable! The bust one out of the other locations. Reservations are not required, but I do suggest you make a reservation because at times it could be packed. We had the High Tea for 2. A very extensive tea selection, very hard to pick just 2. And a nice selection of sandwiches and scones for the day. Again, very hard to choose. Would definitely go again!
Great get together, love the decoration and food. Had the hatter tower shared with my husband, 3 scones, 2 sandwich and cake. The food is good we had the ham cheese scone, pineapple coconut and orange cranberry accompanied by an outstanding raspberry preserve and whipped cream. BLT sandwich my husband added chicken was very good. Cake mocha cake 😋
My family ate brunch on a Wednesday and had a terrific experience. I made a reservation for 5, we were seated immediately, and found the staff friendly. We ordered a smattering of everything from scones, cookies, cold sandwiches, and a hot plate. The coffee and tea were delicious. The scones are especially good. We will definitely be back.
Came here for breakfast on a weekday. The place is very spacious with many tables and has a relaxed atmosphere. Used a voucher for the Mad Morning for Two which came with scones, eggs, and greek yogurt, with a small pot of tea that filled around four cups. Service was acceptable and the scones were very good. They have a large selection of tea which was cool.
Great service, food, and overall experience. We started out with the hostess offering my daughter fairy wings and a sprinkle of fairy dust (glitter) before entering into the restaurant. Our server took the time to explain and recommend different teas we would like and one that the kids may like. We ordered the poached egg with smoked salmon and hollandaise sauce- incredible. We also ordered the three tiered breakfast for two that comes with two scones, eggs your way, and Greek yogurt and granola. I was never a fan of scones until today- they were crispy and slightly flaky on the outside, and soft and moist on the inside. The granola was also delicious to the yogurt. Well worth the trip especially if you’re with a little girl.
Having dined a couple years ago at the original Alices Teacup I was excited to try Chapter II. Sadly, I was kind of disappointed. The good - The tea was absolutely lovely, the decor was cute and the table was nice for working and drinking tea all afternoon. My server was knowledgable and quite friendly. Service was attentive. The bad - The scones were insanely dry and not flavourful as they were when I tried the original. I ordered an eggs Florentine, and it was totally bland. If I went back, I would probably go back to the original one, as I had a very excellent meal there.
We had the most common The Mad Hatter which is a tea tiered tower for 2. You can get it for 1 at $31, 2 for $71, or +$14 for each additional person. You get with the Mad Hatter: 2 choices of sandwiches (6 mini sandwiches total) We chose cucumber watercress and curried chicken, which is not spicy bit sweet (1 vegan option was hummus); 3 scones (we got pumpkin, triple chocolate, and cranberry coconut). There is also a vegan option (apple cinnamon); and then a choice of 1 cake (mocha chocolate, mousse, or lemon tart); and 5 assorted cookies. And of course 2 pots of unlimited tea. We got chocolate chai and ginger orange peach black tea. They have probably 50 types, including black unflavored/flavored, detox, oolong, white, green, tisanes, rooibos, herbal,...You can get individuals of everything, tea and a scone is $17.50, sandwiches are $14-18. Desserts are about $10. They also have alcohol ~$12+ and mar-Tea-nis.Nice staff. And they have a text/call wait list. They give fairy wings to kids to wear. There is also a hot tea/loose tea/scone shop at the front. Gratuity is built into the price!
Alices Tea Cup is a very cute, small, and fun place to be with friends. I personally enjoyed everything, especially the service. There were issues initially going into our time there, but those who worked there were so helpful and considerate to us and did all they could to sort things out.
I loved Alices chapter 1 and found myself in the neighborhood to try chapter two. Almost identical experience and super friendly service. The lapsong chicken sandwich is the best thing ever with Granny Smith apples and goat cheese. There was a parade of children showing up for a birthday party and you can tell they were all super excited to be there... It put a smile on everybodys faces.
I have worked close to Alice’s Teacup for yearssss and I finally went with my bestie, and it was everything and more! I wanted to try the POTUS tea, but they were out. However, the server recommended a nice replacement that was delicious. The teas are so flavorful that I didn’t even use sweetener. And the scones! wonderful!!
A some hat disappointing experience. When I arrives there around 5 o’clock on a Sunday afternoon the servers (well most of the time there was only one, who was about the sweetest waitress I’ve ever seen) seemed extremely busy, even though the ground floor was almost empty. I could hear kids screaming from the upper floor. I decided against staying there and ordered a s’more to go, which according to their description would be served “hot and messy”. It wasn’t hot but it was certainly messy, the melted marshmallow and cream overflowing the take-out container. Also their menu seemed pretty pricey. Therefore I probably won’t come again any time soon.
I have visited Alices Tea Cup Chapter 2 over many years of visiting friends often (almost every 1- 2 weeks) in NYC. This restaurant has seriously went downhill over the years. This is the final time we went and we will not be back. Poor value for what you get in terms of the food. There were many unoccupied tables, which should have been a sign for us. There used to be lines to wait to eat. We understand why there are no longer lines. Our food was very disappointing. We used to come here often, but it seems the food is getting worse each time we come (especially for the prices they charge). The $22 burger was just ok. Tea was good, but it is hard to botch tea. Cookies were hard and scones tasted stale.FYI- his place is still asking for COVID-19 vaccine cards. We ARE vaccinated, but since Mayor Eric Adams lifted the vaccine mandates for patrons of restaurants in NYC, we do not travel with our vaccine cards. They did allow us to eat outside .The server told us that the owners knew about the lifting of the mandate, but that the owners would insist that we show vaccine cards anyway to eat there. (If you want to eat here (inside), bring your vaccine card).Back to the food- Poor value for what you get in terms of the food.Save your money and go anywhere else. There are a ton of coffee shops around that actually care.
Threw my cousin her suprise SprinkleShe was pleasantly surprised! Everyone in our party of 14 had a great time thought that we picked a great place they loved the food and various tea selections and our waiter Andrew was amazing and on point with all the special requests such a great day cant wait to come back
Absolutely amazing experience. We had a baby shower here and they were a pleasure to work with. Service was great as they were constantly checking in on us to see if we needed anything. The champagne raspberry tea was a crowd favorite. If you are looking for a cute place for a girls event I would highly recommend.
Uniquely eclectic vintage decor and delicious tea service combine to create one of the sweetest afternoon tea experiences Ive ever had. With well over 50 different teams to choose from, several scone varieties made daily, and excellent service, this place is a hit! Also, they no longer accept tips and fairly bake their staff wages into the menu prices. So no tipping needed! Yay for more ethical pay!
Terrible experience. I expected much better.-After waiting to be seated we had an additional wait time of over 15 minutes before a server even approached us(Meanwhile, the people that got seated after us, were serviced right away)-We were getting rushed, and being asked every few minutes if we were done and if they should clear our plates with food still on it-The quality of the food was not worth the price-The “ham and cheese” scone was EMPTY-The plates were dingy and cracked-The service was slow and the “desserts” were stale-The sandwiches were dry and tiny-The afternoon tea package we bought didn’t even include all that was stated online-As if the experience wasn’t bad enough already, the hostess stopped us on the way out asking if my toddler would like to make a wish and blow on a brush with glitter. Before I could object, she doused glitter all over my toddler’s freshly washed and styled hair and clothing. I was livid and it was a complete fail for taking my husband out to celebrate Father’s Day.I’ll be spending tonight regretting the whole thing and washing the chemicals out of my child’s hair. We’ll never be returning. I’d recommend going to the location on W 73rd instead.
The food was really good. Great place for people who like tea, they’ve got a nice variety to choose from. The Alice Loco Coco was my personal favorite drinks. The place was nice and cozy, just wish there there were more Alice and Wonderland decorations to make it feel more “mad”.
Perfect for tea lovers. Sections are themed with Alice in wonderland decorations and images. Try their scones, they are warm and tasty, great compliment for your tea. The place is kids-friendly, they have butterfly wings for them to wear. Second floor is the best spot to take pictures. Also tips are already included on the menu.I would have given the place 5 stars but the day I went the staff, although friendly was slow and there were a small number of customers.
One of the beet dining experiences I’ve had in years. The food and environment was good. The service was %1000. The hostess was so nice on the phone. The server was just a magnificent person. Thanks so much for a great improvised birthday for my daughter! Can’t recommend this place enough. Go there and support a wonderful restaurant.
We were originally told it would be an hour wait. We waited the hour and were seated outside. There were severe storm warnings and we did not feel comfortable staying outside so asked to be seated inside instead. The hostess said it would be another 20 minutes. Never put on us back the wait list. Left us standing there for another hour without acknowledging us and when we asked how much longer a table would be she blatantly ignored my husband. Extremely rude and unprofessional. Finally spoke with another hostess working there and she was able to get us seated. Once seated the food was great and our server was wonderful.
This tea house is incredible. The service was so nice. The atmophere is so cozy and ambient. The food was so delicious and the tea was outstanding. We got the Madhatter set for 2 and it was worth every penny. You get an entire tea pot to yourself of any flavor and you get to choose 2 sandwich choices and scones and various other treats like cookies. Highly recommend, I will ALWAYS come back!
Of all my tea experiences, this is hands down my favorite. My wife and I really enjoy the tea for two in the afternoon. And you especially have to visit if youre a fan of Alice in Wonderland. Deceivingly filling, we never finish all our food when were there. Doggy bag to go for later!
We had the afternoon tea for two and it was delicious! Their menu had a lot of different selection from their scones, to their sandwiches and their tea so youll definitely find something youll like. Ive had afternoon tea at a couple of places but Alices tea cup had the biggest portions of food weve had by far. Youre definitely getting your moneys worth.
This place is STILL asking for the covid vaccine card. Mandates ended weeks ago. I’m still trying to understand how it’s ok to discriminate. In a city that promotes equity, how is turning away people based on their medical status “equitable?” When will humanity understand that we are living with covid whether we like it or not?
A wonderful experience with my daughter for an afternoon tea date. Our server was very knowledgeable about our teas, and the scones were delicious. We thoroughly enjoyed a relaxing time here, and even enjoyed the fairy wings and sparkles offered upon arrival. So much fun!
Just left here we made reservations for my birthday. It was my first time and always wanted to come to a place like this since the blue box cafe was hard to get into. I’m honestly not much of a tea drinker (coffee obsessed) but omg the tea was delicious ! I had raspberry green and it was smooth but tart. My mom had the ginger we all finished our teapots. We ended up getting the mad hatter tier and it was divine.. the scones were fluffy inside but crisp outside and buttery. The sandwiches were very tasty and the cake and cookies were good. They also gave me a complimentary red velvet cupcake since it was my bday. The staff was absolutely top notch and super friendly we loved our waiter. He was very professional and sweet. The experience was lovely and honestly made me so happy since I wanted to do this for a long time now. Will for sure be back
LOVE it here. Ive never had a bad tea here. The setup is adorable, with every table and tea pit being slightly different for a unique experience. Their scones are to die for, and I have an inkling that the rest of the food is just as good. My only complaint is the slight high prices (to be expected, given the niche type of place it is), and the cramped space. Would not normally be an issue, but when I had to move the table to get out to use the bathroom, my tea sloshed, and it happened to my tea-mate also.
My mom and I love coming here. It’s such a fun, little magical escape from the city. The scones are absolutely delicious. Alice’s Tea is my favorite but all the options are so great. Have been many times since moving to NYC and will keep going back. Great for kids, too!
I’ve been waiting for quite a while to try the place and I’m sad to say that, in the end, I had a mixed experience. The decor, ambiance is really cute. Service is good. Tea selection is excellent and the tea we had was very good. The food however was very disappointing, sandwiches were really nothing special, the same quality you would get from any deli, for less than a quarter of the price, even the bread they came with was just plain white bread and not the one mentioned in the menu. The scones were good. In the end, if you just come for tea and scones you’ll be fine, the rest of the food is very overpriced and not worth having given the quality.
The food was just a tad slow to get out. It seemed the staff was overwhelmed by how packed it was. BUT, they full deserve 5 stars. The waitress was super sweet, accommodating, and responsive. The food was delicious. The quantity wasn’t as large as I would have hoped, but certainly enough. The teas were amazing. And plus, the ambiance which was unique and fun. The scones. Remember the scones. They are scrumptious.OH ALSO— I love that gratuity is included in the price. I can rant about how tipping is problematics and fair wages are a must. At the end of the, its also convenient.
I had such a wonderful time at this restaurant it was so nice and cozy not as big as I expected medium-sized I should say. I was there for a clients birthday party and I was also hired to be the medium/reader to read tea leaves for my client and her guests. The waitresses, waiters and the host (their hair color was amazing btw.... it was like this fly aquamarine color) was really nice. They catered to me. I had my own private table opposed to the regular table that all of us were already originally sitting at. The food was beautiful the presentation of the food was awesome the teas were good and they were on point. They werent too cold or too warm it was just right and it was a great experience. Inside the restaurant it was really really cozy, they had pictures of all kinds, it looked very artsy fartsy but with a modernize touch, a lot of vintage art was there so it was really nice. I had this one waiter I forgot his name, so sorry, but he was so nice to me (I know he has dark glasses and is fair skinned) and was always reassuring or coming to check up on me to make sure that I was great. The tea was nice and their food options were really good. They even have vegan and vegetarian options for people who are along those lines and they also have other types of food. They have breakfast lunch and dinner and you have to make reservations in order for you to eat or theres an opportunity for you to just walk in so its really nice I like it
A friend and I went here at the end of April. The restaurant is very small with little space to move around which can be a real hassle if youve got little ones with you. The bathroom is right next to the kitchen entrance so if you are waiting to use it be mindful of the staff coming in and out. But those are the only negatives. The food and tea was incredible! And honestly, thats what youre going for. The staff was funny and kind, and we had surprisingly quick service considering how busy they were. The second floor dining has a cute view of the neighborhood and is full of light, so it makes for a lovely atmosphere. We would definitely go there again. :)
I like this Chapter the best out of all the others. If you bring a little one along they will sprinkle some fairy dust on them and have them make a wish. How cute! The tea menu is extraordinarily long and extraordinarily great!! And the scones are the best Ive ever had. If youre in NYC you simply should make the trip to Alices. You wont regret it
Alices is a great place for special events as well as just getting to with good friends. Very child friendly, and even for adults it has an air of whimsy. Employees seem genuinely happy. Good tea selection and treats. On some days youll really want to get a reservation to avoid a wait.
I have been several times now and have had a great experience each time! They have a great deal on Groupon sometimes for the tea for two, which is plenty of food for 2-3 to share. All the food is really yummy and their scones are unbeatable. The staff are all very friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend making a reservation if youd like to sit, especially on the weekends, but they do takeaway orders as well.
I really wanted to love this place. The decors adorable, the whole theme is very charming and the staff was friendly but It was not a quality high tea. The teapot I got the water was scalding hot so the leaves had burned, which gave the whole pot a very bitter taste. My server, while very friendly, was often in the back of the room chatting with server friends and leaving the rest of her tables for long gaps of time. I had the curry chicken tea sandwich and all I could taste was just a huge amount of curry spice-like literally just the seasoning out of the grocery store. I couldnt even eat more than a bite of it and so I was just sitting there with most of a sandwich on my plate. Eventually another server came over and noticed something was wrong and thats when I told them I needed to send the sandwich back (which I never do in restaurants. I dont like being that person, Ive worked as a server) but I literally could not eat this sandwich. The scone was fine a little dry, but still pretty tasty The cookies that came with the high tea were a waste of calories pretty dry and bland. Again I really wanted to love this place but I just couldnt get behind the actual experience.
First off, the server that I had the pleasure of meeting - her name is Libby - is absolutely amazing, top notch service, very knowledgeable of the menu (impressive due to the sheer volume of tea alone) and funny. There is an Alice in wonderland theme on the top level which the establishment pulls off nicely. The tea is absolutely exquisite and the experience makes me think that the Brits are on to something good with the whole afternoon tea tradition. They have different scones daily as I understand it which taste great with cream and/or jam. The sandwiches were tasty too. The deserts were pretty good. The one that stood out the best was the fudge brownie, and the coffee cake was good. I look forward to my next time there.
I went to one of their chapters years ago for scones and tea and couldnt wait to visit again. This time I got the waffles (amazing) and coffee (kind of weak, should have stuck with tea). It was busy but not crowded, and we got a seat upstairs with a lot of natural light. The atmosphere is great. A little on the pricey side but worth it.
My favorite place in the world (that Ive had to opportunity to visit) for tea and scones. Alices tea is a classic for a reason, and you cant go wrong with any of their scones. The staff is wonderful and the space is relaxing and quaint. They have vegan options as well!
I am always impressed by their broad selection of teas which must always be accompanied by scones! This place is very popular and the management was very kind to accommodate me and my friends as a group. A friend of mine had their cake but was mediocre. It was the tea and scones that we came for. Also, its a good thing they charge for extra cream and jam otherwise I would consumed double the amount!
Pretty busy place on the weekend so took some time to get seated. Would recommend coming in early and putting in your name; theyll give you a call so you can roam the neighborhood. No surprise here, the scones are delicious, filling and pair well with the butter and preserves. They have a broad selection of sandwiches, brunch and lunch food, despite being better known for the teas and scones. Would recommend coming for brunch/lunch and staying for tea and dessert.
Great place for brunch with kids. The salmon Benedicts are really really good. They also have scones and a very large variety of tea. Even more, the whole place is decorated with scenes from Alice in Wonderland, and when you bring kids you can ask for them to be covered with fairy dust and granted fairy wings. Service is really good most of the time. Only problem is the waiting time. If you get there after 10am and youre a party of 3 or more youll likely have to wait half an hour or more to be seated.
Such a cute place to get tea!!! I loved it. The portions are huge, the decorations are adorable. And the waitstaff are very friendly. Only thing is we ran into a lot of trouble scheduling a time to use our Groupon—I think there might be some confusion about when that’s supposed to be used and how. Otherwise it was an excellent experience!
Tough review to write: The food and tea were delicious, but there were several problems. First of all the pricing policy to include tips does not appear to be terribly effective. Our waiter was charming, friendly and knowledgeable, but we didnt see a lot of him. The service was extremely slow. But the real problem was the heat. We were there on New Years Day 2018, and there was NO heat in the restaurant. The outside temperature was in the low teens. The indoor temp was so cold that the tea would chill immediately in a cup. I think they had an obligation to tell us the situation before we were seated. As we left, they said the there had been no heat for a week!!!!!! Would I go back again? Yes, but I wouldnt stay if it was cold.
Genuinely one of my favorite restaurants since I was in middle school. The Alice in wonderland theme is perfect for children, but it doesnt hit you over the head with it in a way thats great for adults too. The tea, scones, finger sandwiches, and little desserts are British-style. The scones (particularly the pumpkin one) are some of the best food Ive ever eaten. The tea is also amazing.

2022-08-13Very lovely time here! They service was great and the atmosphere was whimsical. I wish there was a little more variety of Alice in Wonderland paraphernalia, as it was mostly pictures of a girl with the statue in Central Park. However, the tea and scones were more than I could even eat, and were delicious! Our waiter gave us full pots of tea (I swear they were the large size—but should have been the small).

2021-09-26I really like this place it’s got character and a whimsy with a homemade feeling that touches on upscale kinda feel, so that’s what you pay for…don’t get me wrong the food is good, but because they are busy they have their timing if off. We never got our drinks till after our food and some of it was a bit cold like the crepe and pancakes… still tasty!so if your someone who’s picky about waiting and food can be served a bit cold over the atmosphere then maybe only go on a non busy time of day to ensure they can give you more attention…Everyone working is super nice but busy!We indulged a little bit and got three breakfast foods and shared them pulse a pumpkin scone. Drinks we got Alice’s breakfast yea very mellow… coffee was great!*Alice’s Bellini was the best!!! Yum!*The French toast soufflé thing was the best!We will be back it’s a cute place we will try lunch next time.🍄🎩🐛☕️💙

2021-12-07I had mad hatter which is tea for 2 people with 3 story dishes. I picked buttermilk, pumpkin, chocolate chip for the top rack. Blt and watercress sandwiches for the middle rack. I also try vegan strawberry scone and hummus sandwiches. Those are the best for me. Scones are fresh and good size. With the tea the amount of foods you get is enough. We tried Alice tea, star dust, sparkling champagne. Alice tea is the best. Star dust has a lavender flavor so smells good. Sparkling champagne is also different flavor but very good. Server is very attentive. 2nd floor is more spacious and they have party space for kids.

2022-08-11Here’s the thing, the concept is cute. The actual restaurant is cute. Everything about it is cute, however the service was absolutely terrible. The young man who was waiting on is was very inattentive not only to us but the other tables too and sat at a nearby table eating with a friend most of the time. The food server/guy busing tables was actually more helpful and nice than the waiter.

2022-09-13There’s a lot I can say about being a former employee here, but I’ll review this place as a customer instead. I use to come to Alice’s tea cup for so many years and I definitely always loved the vibe of this spot. I do think it could lean a little heavier on the Alice in wonderland theme though. You should totally go for Mad Hatter and get a variety of treats! There are always new scone flavors to indulge in and you’ll probably want to take one home. It’s a lovely afternoon restaurant to visit. Avoid brunch here at all cost. IT GETS SO BUSY! 🫖 🫖🫖🫖🫖 ALSO! Try their burgers here, beef or veggie, with goat cheese. I can taste it now haha 🤤😍✨

2022-07-09The quality of the food here has been amazing throughout the years. Its a great place to have a date or chat with a person. You can get a pot of tea and two scones for under $20 and its totally worth it. Great place and great service.

2022-06-20The food was decent but the service was not great. Everyone looked very confused, dropping things all the time, took forever until the server came to our table and then he took the order from 3 other tables before going back and sending our order. Tables outside are very unstable and not really clean. Not an amazing experience, don’t know if I would recommend to anyone.

2021-11-18We chose Alices to be the location of our anniversary-day breakfast, and first went to the original location, only to be told that their boiler was broken and they couldnt serve food, so we hoofed it over to Chapter 2. We were seated immediately (traveling as a party of 2 has its perks!), and while service is slow because of the pandemic, our server was extremely attentive and was ready to recommend anything to us when our first choice of teas were out of stock. We enjoyed the Mad Hatters Tea Party platter, and it was more food than the two of us could handle. The scones were incredible, the sandwiches were to die for, and we could only handle the mousse and had to take the cookies with us for later. The tea selection is perfect, and they sell the tea in the shops as well, so if you like what you get, get it to go! They also give fairy wings out to little kids, and the whole experience was just as magical for us as a pair of 30-somethings as it was for a five-year-old. Truly one of my favorite places in NYC.
