I love this place so much. I can’t say enough good things about it! The location is perfect. The UWS is the place to be. I’ve got here with my friend who lives very close by for brunch and tea. It’s more of a laid-back place, but the service is great, staff is friendly, and great food all around! Definitely interested in trying out the other chapters.
The Mad Hatter Set with faerie potion tea, chocolate chip/pumpkin caramel/buttermilk scones, tea egg/lapsang chicken sandwiches, various sweets- tea egg sandwich was delicious, lapsang chicken and tea were okay- scones were cold- cake was hard and so so so unfortunately dense
This was my second time at this establishment. First-time post-pandemic and I loved it just as much. The only complaint that I have is that I wish they add cream cheese to the list of condiments. LOL. Besides that, it was lovely. The Cranberry and Pumpkin scones are life!
Cute vibe and their signature Alice Tea was a very well balanced blend! The flavours of the black tea balanced well with the green, and generally it was a great tea to drink. The shop is really small though so if there’s lots of customers they can easily get overwhelmed with orders. Maybe drop by to pick up instead of sitting down.
Eclectic little pace with great table service and delicious food.Everything we got tasted delicious. I love the jam the scone came with, it was over the top good. So many tea options; i loved the lavender tea and tuna melt.Bathrooms are pretty dirty and hostess could use a little more customer service but the overall dining experience was great.
I enjoyed afternoon tea here. Tea was good as was the choice. The smoked salmon sandwiches were great and the scones and cookies tasty. If you are hoping for an immersive Alice experience this is not it but if you are looking for a quite place for tea and a scone, they got you covered.
Nice little tea shop. It’s themed but wasn’t extreme. Wide selection of amazing teas. Food selection is great, and was tasty. Staff is friendly, and polite. Definitely get the Mad Hatter. So you can sample the foods and teas. Cucumber sand is was delicious. Egg salad sandwich was good. The scones are amazing! Alice Tea is fantastic! Can’t wait to be back. Make a reservation, it gets busy.
If you love tea and delightfully lovely experiences, you absolutely have to go to Alices Tea Cup. I found it looking for a family-friendly place by Central Park to take some friends who were visiting from out of town. Its a magical little place, where the scones are dense, delicate, and sweet... everyone gets their own teapot full of one of many from a large selection of teas. Cute and quaint, the sandwiches are also delicious. We all got different ones and shared. If youre a fan of the story, you will appreciate this little treasure spot.
Terrible! We read in mommypoppings how nice they were with kids and just ignored us. We had to ask for the table to be cleaned up, we had to ask for the menus and when we said can we order after a table who arrived later was completely served before… they said coming shortly… we could have been still waiting….
My daughter loves to go here at least once a month, more if we lived closer. Its beautifully decorated, delicious food, Awesome staff and friendly, I even seen a actress from Orange is the new black there. The scones are delicious. The have a variety of teas, all good.
The hostess was fine. The waiter was wonderful and very polite and friendly. Tea was amazingly delicious and the cake was overly sweet and sugary. The overall aesthetic was a bit disappointing and very understated. If you’re looking for a real Alice and wonderland theme, this isn’t it. In addition the bathroom is all genders and very dirty. Flies and toilet paper on the floor. It was very unpleasant.
I absolutely loved visiting this tea house. A friend recommended this spot and it was a pleasant surprise. I enjoy ordering the Russian Caravan tea, but theirs was very different from previous ones I have tasted. Wasnt a huge fan. The scones were fantastic. The clotted cream could have been better. It was more like whip cream. Overall, the atmosphere was my favorite. Huge fan of Alice in Wonderland.
We visited with a group of 6 and had a great experience. They allowed the little ladies to wear wings and sprinkled them with fairy dust. Service was prompt and efficient. The employees were are very friendly. We needed some time to go through the menu to figure out if we should go with the brunch menu or the afternoon tea options. We had the pumpkin and mixed berry scones and a pot of tea. Both were very good. The children had crepes and curious French toast. Everything was very tasty. I would come back again in the future.
We visited on a Monday at 1:30 pre-holiday season. There wasn’t any wait and the restaurant was quiet. This isn’t the norm though. Usually this place is busy and it’s common to have some waiting. My friend has some disabilities and they were more than happy to accommodate our seating for her comfort, but I should note the entrance is not wheelchair accessible. Our waitress was attentive and friendly. The dining area and restrooms were immaculate. We ordered the Mad Hatter for two. Everything was delicious as usual. If you have left over tea you can ask for a to go cup. You can also purchase scones & desserts to go and loose leaf tea at the entrance area or add it to your check.
My daughter and I enjoyed Alices Tea Cup West. The high tea service for 2 option was great. The scones are buttery and delicious. The selection of tea was wonderful. Cant lie, I thought Id get a pot, not a cup with a tea bag, but that couldve been due to service changes with COVID. They smartly opted to take advantage of NYCs parking spot dining option for restaurants. I dont fancy exhaust flavored meals so was happy to sit at the cafe style table close to the door. The smoked salmon was plentiful but it was pretty average in flavor which is weird since theyre right down the block from Fairway which has great selections. My daughter enjoyed the cookies and stuff. Im not into sweets so a half a cookie and I was out. The service after the initial confusion about not taking reservations due to COVID was great. Abraham was quick and efficient.
It is a tea place but nothing like the original afternoon tea shops in London. Nice place to take kids to have a fun afternoon tea... But the scones are not the real deal, no clotted cream instead u get whipped cream... And I think the prices are a bit high for what u get, but its a place worth to have a visit especcialy when the weather is cold... Nothing can warm u up like a hot cup of tea!!!!
Loved Alices on a Sunday for bunch/lunch with my sister during and NYC trip. The atmosphere is easy and fun. The tea and scones are fantastic and perfect after eating so much randomness in the city. Loved the mixed berry and buttermilk scones. Cant go wrong with the scones Benedict or the crepes!
Magical place to have a pot of tea & the most delicious scones... even vegan ones. So many wonderful teas & scones to choose from. And each time a different lovely cup & saucer to drink from.I highly recommend allowing yourself some leisure time alone or with friends for one of lifes little pleasures. Its also great place to bring kids or little birthday parties complete with alice in wonderland art on the wall & fairy wings you can get for them. The food and the service is good too!
Very relaxing with inviting decor. The waiter was very attentive and knowledgeable about the teas,s and the food. I loved the vegan scones made with cornbread and the chocolate chai tea. The waiter also brought out a cup cake with a candle for my daughter who was celebrating her birthday. Overall a great experience.
Cute gimmick of Alice, sometimes taking it a little too far. The tea was good and so were the scones. We got the mix Barry scone and the basil and goat cheese special which were really tasty. I think the whipped cream on the side doesnt really go with the scones and its better to have something else on the side. The service was also good, very nice waiter.
Nice place to grab some tea and mind your business. I had the nibble which for 36 bucks I got a sandwich, a scone of my choice, some assorted cookies and unlimited tea. Delicious tea blends (i had energitea which actually made me sleepy instead of energized) but indo recommend going during the week over the weekend as it can be a bit crowded/loud because of birthday parties and the what not. Will come again.
Dont be fooled by the girlish decor; youre gonna wanna stop in. Each mug is unique. The walls are covered in Alice art and quotes. Pequiliar items are available for purchase. The selection of tea is comprehensive and the pastries and cakes are delicious and pair nicely. Wait staff was accommodating. There is typically a wait and only a single shared restroom.
Ive been going to Alices for years and it is just the sweetest place. If you go on a weekend of is often crowded and you may have to wait for a table of you go later in the morning or in the afternoon. But if you are looking to sit over a pot of tea after work on a rainy day or relax with some tea based cocktails on a weeknight, Alices is the perfect place! Im not as big a fan of their meals, but the scones are perfection and if you need a dessert, go with the Smores! Its like a mousse-souffle consistency and covered in melted marshmallows! 😊
Honestly a gem in the upper west side! I had one of their scones, and it was hands down the best one Ive ever had. In fact, I didnt know scones could be that delicious. (For reference, I had the white chocolate scone!)I also had the hot chocolate, which was also very yummy! The staff was also super lovely and friendly! I loved this place and definitely have to go back for the tea and more scones!
I love Alices Teacup. I always recommend this place to friends and have been coming back for a few years now. This location has a huge wall of loose tea you can purchase as well as a wall of random theme related things such as unicorn horns, tarot cards, fairy wings, etc. The food and service is always amazing and I enjoy the rotating menu of scones. I wish daily scones were advertised on some form of social media so I wouldnt have to call each location every day to see which one Id like to visit.
Came here for dessert, I’ve never tried their food. But So far, I like their cakes, scone, and tea selection. even not the best dessert place in NYC, but this place seem like a magical place for me. I love their concept, family environment, your children will love this place :)
Our favorite place for tea! Lots of signature tea flavors to try, but the Alice blend is far and away the best. The scones are delicious, savory and crumbly and not too dry. Brunch menu is also fabulous. We had the ham and gruyere crepes and the Eggs Benedict (served on Buttermilk scones!)The Wonderland theme is so charming, down to the mismatched cups and saucers. Try any of the locations for a fun and yummy experience!
Had a lovely time here. Didn’t have a reservation but they still accommodated my party of 4. Cute, intimate spot. Un-birthday Tea and Chocolate scones are a must. Our server was kind and gave great service.Shout out to Rachel - a warm, friendly, and magical host. Thank you for the pixie dust 🥺💕
I grew up going here & remember it being a magical place. That’s completely changed. Brought my younger sister here to celebrate her 5th birthday and Valentine’s Day and they didn’t let her in because she wasn’t vaccinated. She just turned 5. In no way am I antivax but to deny a 5 year old service the day she turns 5 because she isn’t vaccinated is ridiculous. Had we gone in a day before she would’ve been allowed in? That makes absolutely no sense, what difference does one day make?
Its a very cute place with an Alice in wonderland esque decor. But as some reviewers noted on yelp, the service is not good. We waited 15 minutes before a server said they would be with us, then waited another 10 min before they asked if we were ready to order. Not very attentive. When the food eventually came, it wasnt that hot. I was disappointed with the scone eggs Benedict. The tea was good but for a place with tea in the name I expected GREAT tea VS tea I can definitely get in any supermarket.
Denying indoor service to two individuals just because they are unvaccinated? STILL, in 2022???? So much for the stickers on your door, about unity, inclusion, loving one another….so you’re saying all are welcome here except unvaccinated? Julie was in a wheelchair and staff was kind enough to bring up a wheelchair ramp that almost had her slip going down, it was a steep slope, yet your staff didn’t want to take responsibility to fix the ramp either. Poor management.
This place is adorable. My sister and I stumbled upon it and while their platters are a little expensive, we found their normal tea and pastries are affordable. You can have table side service or take something to go. They let the kids wear fairy wings and give them fairy dust. We are definitely coming back.
I’m happy that this plastic-free place exists in the city like New York. People working here are super nice! I had vegan lentil soup and it’s delicious and feels like home-made one. Interior is a bit disappointing creation. Anyway, I will be back to taste some teas from the porcelain cups!
This is my favorite place! I love the decor, the Alice theme, and of course the incredible selection of teas! The staff is always so friendly and enjoyable to be around. They really make you feel special! I love all the locations and how unique they are! Thanks to my friend Allie for the recommendation, now I recommend to all my friends too! A perfect spot for an afternoon tea!
I love afternoon tea! Been here twice now, its always delicious 😋 great birthday spot because you get a lot of variety and choices for prix fixe with 2 or 3 + people. The teas themselves are excellent and unlimited. Tea sandwiches especially good: the egg salad & chicken salads as well as fresh scones of the day with clotted cream and jams. Pretend youre in England for an hour. Yummy!
Go here for some tea and a scone. Skip the afternoon tea for the really hefty price tag ($72+). Staff is really kind under pressure but head to the Lowell Hotel for some really dynamite afternoon tea. Ive had afternoon tea in better spots (Australia/London) but even in small spots like the Dunbar Tea Room, Cape Cod. The sandwiches are not tea size and dry, and the cookies that they plate look like they came out of a sleeve. Afternoon tea is supposed to delicate, sweet and tasty. Again go for just a cup of tea on a rainy day and enjoy the funky decor.
Tea rooms are one of my favorites to visit while traveling. Im the only girl in our home (even our dogs are male). I talked the 4 men in my life (husband & 3 sons) into joining me for dessert at Alices Tea Cup. My eldest son was raised drinking tea with mom and enjoys his tea at home often (we started drinking medicinal tea when he was a small boy to help with his asthma symptoms and our love of tea grew from there). He asked why hadnt he been to or even heard of places like this (tea rooms)? Id always gone to tea rooms with girlfriends in the past. Alices has a great variety of teas and treats. We tried the Rooibos Chai Wedding Tea and the Rooibos Chai St. Marks blend, both were delicious (we brought home a couple ounces of St. Marks blend, many teas are also available for purchase online). We sampled the buttermilk scone with clotted cream & raspberry jam, the giant chocolate chip cookie & chocolate milk and the tall, moist chocolate layer cake with vanilla buttercream-all were spot on. Great place for dessert and tea/coffee. They also serve non-dessert food items (soups, sandwiches and more). The mismatched tea cups & saucers added to the whimsy of Alices Tea Cup. Staff was friendly and helpful. It was a great experience for all of us. So glad we went!
Most lovely service. Good selection of tea. If you had high tea in London, this is not quite comparable. The blt is nice as well as the salmon. I don’t recommend the scone nor the ridiculously small amount of average cream which is served with nor the spoon of jam. The mocha cake is decent. The cookies were just the same and pretty blend
The location was beautiful. The entrance was at garden level and we were escorted to our table for 5 to enjoy high tea. Unfortunately they did not have a working restroom and advised that I could use the Starbucks at the corner. Starbucks restroom was not avaialble. They then directed me down the street to another restaurantto use their facilities. Success. Still I did not enjoy walking up and down the street looking for bathroom. The food tea sandwiches scones cookies mousse and macarons were just ok. The sandwiches were and scones were dry. Instead of clotted cream or butter they offered raspberry perserves with lemon whip that was not as satisfying as butter. All in all it was not something that I would do again especially for the price.
I really wanted to go here in the morning before hitting up the museum nearby, but they only had one barista on a Sunday. We tried again to go after leaving the museum, but they were closing early since they were out of scones. Im also very disappointed they arent open on Mondays and Tuesdays.
We reserved 10 days in advance to have brunch here. When we arrived, we had to wait 20 minutes even if the room was almost empty just because the waiter had to serve and chit-chat with people coming in for takeaways. No other server could check us in apparently. Then when we were finally asked about our reservation, surprise! We have little kids, they are not vaccinated so we cannot sit inside. Not written anywhere in the reservation nor in the confirmation messages. Waited then for a table outside: 25 more minutes because even if the table was empty just after 5 minutes it took them other 20 to just clean it up (not set it, just clean it). Then we got the menus: again, surprise! The menu you see in the website is not available, only on weekends. So at the end we waited almost one hour to find out that our reservation was useless, not finding the menu advertised and not having any food.In all this the attitude of waiters was also quite terrible, not apologizing once, asking why we were sitting on their tables (just waiting for you to set the table I should have got half an hour earlier!), not really making an effort to make it up considering how long we were waiting with little kids. We left.
The website doesn’t state in order to eat indoors to bring your vaccination card. So we are told to eat outside. Okay that’s fine. They have a cabana and 2 tables right in front of store. Christina tells us to sit in front of the store, tables were dirty, people walking right by. There’s several tables under the cabana with only 2 tables being used. Why couldn’t we sit in the cabana with clean tables- Oh , that’s right we’re BLACK.
This place is not as good as I remember from a long while back. I ordered afternoon tea for myself and for the money I spent it was not worth it. The baked goods I could have gotten from a grocery store and I got the cucumber sandwich that tasted like just cucumber and plain butter. It was cramped, uncomfortable, and the service was all over the place and slow. The service staff were very nice though.
I have been to both locations in manhattan and love them both!! The decor is so whimsical, the food is great. Beautiful salads, great burgers and fries, the scones are out of this world. They also, offer a little jam and cream with the scones, the flavor combination is awesome. I cannot forget the hot chocolate, it is the delightful, rich, creamy with a delicious homemade whipped cream. The teas are also delightful; my favorite is the raspberry champagne white tea. The chocolate cake with vanilla or chocolate butter team is so amazing. The blueberry lemon cake is delicious. This place really makes me smile. Furthermore, the staff is so sweet. I had a server named Will, he is so pleasant and professional.
Nasty Awful experience and the hostess by the name of Alicia was rude and obnoxious. This place is unsanitary and dirty anyway. I thought in the service industry they ought to prize people patronizing their establishment I called ahead and we were turned away because of an administrative error where the hostess forgot to place our name. Alicia comes out and has the temerity to say can you come tomorrow among other rude comments which were unnecessary.Good luck with your business. Only tourists looking for horrible service should patronize this so called establishment
We had a lovely afternoon at Alices! I had tea with 2 scones, and they were amazing! Especially the chocolate chip salted caramel version. It was more than enough to make us waddle out. The staff was very friendly and attentive. I highly approve of their business model to include gratuity in the price and also the detailed explanation in the menu as to why.
We went there for lunch/brunch. And didnt order tea. Food selection was very limited, half the menu wasnt available. Ordered salmon sandwich and it came with a some greens on the side, toast cream cheese on toast and salmon on top - for $20!!! Literally nothing special about it, almost flavorless and sky high prices!
This is a great place to catch up with friends over a pot of tea. I had the champagne tea which was amazing along with a tasty berry scone. The scones are large enough to split, especially if you plan to get a sandwich as well. All around the food is great and I highly recommend!
Wasn’t sure if this was gonna be a tourist trap but the food was actually delicious and service really friendly and on point. those scones are divine (mango and coconut scone will remain in my dreams forever). the tuna melt was scrumptious too. whimsical, kooky fun decor and ambiance. but actually my favorite part is seeing the little kids put fairy wings on and making wishes with the fairy dust sprinkled on them before they get seated. the hostess i saw did it so genuinely and sweetly, my heart cried a little. i want a wholesome restaurant that does that for adults! haha
I was here for a baby shower and I love this place! It is a bit pricey but their pastries and tea are truly delicious. We had the all you can eat and drink deal for afternoon tea. It was more than we can ate. Their scones are so good. I really love the caramel scone. Their berry tart and sandwiches are good too.We got to be in our own private room to celebrate the special occasion with my friends and the mom-to-be.I would highly recommend this for a baby shower or bridal shower!
Love Alice’s tea cup! Highly recommend!I love to get a cup of tea and vegan scone, but if you get the scone to go just note: the clotted cream(butter) and jam come in the same container :( that is a bummer because often they won’t just send you a jam to go. Occasionally someone will make you a small jam to go!!The scones and tea are delicious! The decor is adorable and the staff are almost always wonderfully kind!
This is a lovely place. The staff is courteous and the food is delightful. They have an abundance of teas, all of them amazing. The scones... the scones are absolute perfection. If you want to have a special lunch with one of your children, you cant pick a better place. The decor is whimsical and it feels like a very special place.
This is such a fun place to go with friends or children. Whenever I stop by Alices tea cup I am warmly greeted and seated quickly (with reservations). We had tea, scones, and sandwiches. There were lots of options and everything was so cute. You might think this place is kind of gimmicky, but the food actually tasted delicious, thats why its been here for so long. The ham and cheese scones are delicious, I recommended everyone try it! The fairy dust is a fun and no nice touch. This is a good place to bring kids for their first try at tea because it is a whimsical kid friendly tea place. The people who work here are so nice, and magical, and helpful with suggestions. The decor is as suggested, very magical and fun. The desserts are also delicious, get a bunch to share! A very good stop for a special tea for two ormore, I just recommended making reservations.
Ive came here since I was little. And its still here, so now I bring my friends and they love it. So many good choices-- whether you do a full afternoon tea for a special day out or just chat over a pot or two and a pair of scones, Alices Tea Cup is the perfect place for anyone at any occasion!! Love this place and will always come back
I enjoy the tea and scones. We took my daughter here and everyone was very polite. We ordered too much tea however, I feel as though the waitress was too busy to think to ask us if we understood the menu. Other than that the experience was a lot of fun for us and the food was enjoyable.
Excellent atmosphere and a huge selection of teas. The scones were some of the best scones Ive ever had and the tea was pretty great (and potent if you get the black tea). Definitely worth a visit. Theres always a wait so make sure you have something to do. Central park is close by so we walked around there for about an hour before getting called.
The atmosphere is delightful! The food was delicious. The rooibos Earl Grey was a terrific replacement for normal Earl Grey Tea.While nice, the service dropped off after our food was served and never returned. I even had to ask for the check! For having unlimited tea, we only got one pot each. And, while quite enough, the server has no way of knowing this.
Sweet little place with the most diverse and delightful tea selection. The worst part was having to pick one! A good problem to have. The scones are amazing. Had the pb&j on banana bread and oh sweet Jesus was it great. Highly recommend for all ages. Great to take visitors to the city. Will be back!
I love Alices Tea Cup! After more than 10 years of frequenting this lovely locale, its still one of my favorite places in NYC. The scones are absolutely incredible and Im not vegan but their vegan scones are wonderful. And they have so many incredible tea options too. I cant wait for more scones! (Their sandwiches and brunch are absolutely phenomenal too)
We came here for breakfast. The environment was so cute with tea pots and porcelain cups, makes it all feel so fancy. The coffee & tea was very fresh and yummy. The Eggs Benedict over the ham & cheese scone was AMAZING. We also tried the cornmeal pancakes with berries and it was so tasty. Service was great as well. Two thumbs up!!
Not worth it! We used to go here when we lived in NYC and we revisited it recently. The sandwhiches are just too large and not tasty enough. The tea was still great. The scones are the best thing there! The biggest problem was the noise. Noise bounces off the walls there and you just can’t have a relaxing tea experience! That’s my biggest problem with the place. It has good service and nice style but I need to hear and talk.
I came here this morning with my friend and step-daughters for brunch. It was our first time here. Our waitress Jen was very friendly. This place is adorable. We happened to be lucky enough to get a table right away but it does get crowded. My daughters ordered a savory crepe with bacon and cheddar and they enjoyed it very much. I ordered poached eggs with seven-grain toast with a side of potatoes and a blueberry lemon zest scone. My friend had the poached eggs with bacon. I tried the bacon. It was delicious, crisp and had a smoky flavor. The poached eggs were well done, I prefer the yolks to be runny but they were still good. The scone was delicious! It was tender and light and the clotted cream and blueberry sauce with it was delicious! The table was set with different China plates and tea cups. It really is,an adorable place. The coffee is good and one of my daughters ordered a lot of tea and she like it. We will definitely go back for brunch again.
Scones were stale and the space was loud. Other than some cute drawings around the room, theres no much Alice in the place, very not magical. The cake was dense, dry, and way too sweet. Tea was very good though! I would just order tea if you go. Service was fine, wait line was pretty long and not really worth it. If youre into tacky decor and happen to be in the area and the waits not long, it can be a good time.
This place was really cool. A huge selection of teas with a really cool vibe in the main room. I noticed that certain tables had a large basket full of tea sandwiches and other assorted pastries that seemed quiet delicious. The scones I had were solid in addition to the white tea ordered. Cool café to hang out at for a bit with some loved ones.
LOVE THIS PLACE! So cute. I recommend going before 10 - especially with large groups. I was able to get a group of 6 in on a Saturday around 5pm though. Call in before you go. The afternoon tea tray for 2 people is very yummy and lots of food! I also love the Indian ginger tea there. If you like black tea with milk and honey this is the one for you!
One of my favorite restaurants of all time since forever! When I was in middle school, I had my birthday here 3 years in a row, and now that Im an adult I still come all the time. For kids, they will give you wings and glitter and you can order fun finger sandwiches and mini cakes. For adults, you can still take in the Alice in Wonderland theme, and read all of the quotes on the wall and admire the beautiful images painted beside them. You can also select a tea from an exhaustive tea menu (all that Ive tried are incredible) and try some of the best scones youll find anywhere. Not to mention, tip is included in the price because they changed their policy to pay their staff more per hour consistently.
Absolutely delicious! I came here for a wholesome breakfast before walking around the city and thats just what I got. I had the poached eggs with smoked salmon on a buttermilk biscuit with a side of asparagus and pears. The eggs were poached perfectly with bright orange runny yolks and the buttermilk biscuit was flaky and tender - creamy hollandaise sauce topped it all off! The staff were so very friendly and attentive. Ill definitely be back here for breakfast anytime Im in the city.
This place is amazing! The tea menu is simply massive and the scones were to die for. They sell tea by the pot when you sit down to eat, and you can choose from anything on their menu. They offer a small pot and a large pot but even the small pot as a good amount of tea. The staff was very friendly, and the place makes a point of being inclusive. Their bathroom is purposefully labled as an all gender bathroom. The atmosphere was cute, even if the food was a little pricey.
Honestly this place could have been cool. But my experience was that it was overated. The scones tasted like bread and we could not eat them, and the staff were rude and acting like children by laughing really loudly out back and then moping around serving you like they hated it. But the concept is cool and it has potential if the chef and wait staff were better.
I love all of the Alices Tea Cup locations! One of my favorite places in the world. They have an awesome selection of teas, their sandwiches are delicious and creative, and Ive always had pleasant experiences with the staff. They get quite crowded, so you should be prepared to wait a bit for a table during peak times and on weekends. Its a great place for a celebration or a special occasion, but a bit pricey for your average Sunday afternoon tea in my opinion. Definitely depends on what you decide to order.
The place wasnt quite what I was expecting, maybe the original location is better? We got the curried chicken salad sandwich which had good flavor but needed more mayo and/or fresher bread. It was dry. We also got the Alice Fairy potion tea which actually was very good. Waited longer then told but not by much, maybe 5 minutes. Very pricey , but hey its NYC. Scone was good. People seem to come for the full tea experience with the Mad Hatter from the menu where you get a lot of different things. Maybe thats more the thing to do but itll cost you. Oddest thing was that we were told they had run out of tea kettles and it would be a few minutes. Huh? Seriously? Takes 30 seconds to wash a tea kettle. We also over heard that while waiting so a good 15 minutes of customers not being able to order tea.
It was my daughters birthday and we were so excited for our first visit to NYC and Alices Teacup in particular (as we always heard such good things about it). Unfortunately, the experience was extremely disappointing. The staff were unfriendly and lacked any interest or enthusiasm. The service was terrible and the food was surpringly blah. The chicken hash contained very dry bites of chicken (which I nearly choked on), it was awful. My 10 year old daughter literally couldnt eat her crepe, it was so sweet. Even the scones were just mediocre. And the worst part, they dont offer anything special for a birthday celebration. No happy birthday song, no candles, nothing. I would never return again and would certainly not recommend this place for any special occasions! Such a disappointing experience!
I really enjoyed my breakfast at Alices tea cup. The ham and cheese scone was delicious and a good combo for my eggs. I also tried the French toast and everything was really good! The waitress who helped us was really nice and extremely professional and accommodating. I am definitely coming back for more!
Waited over 45 minutes by which time tables the same size (2) came after us and had tea, scones, and their meals eaten. Upon asking what was happening, there was no apology only an excuse that a larger table backed things up. Understandable except that large table came in quite a while after us. You really want to love this place given its quaint nature and sister-owned small business ownership, but the experience was so dreadful that I would never go back. Oh and when our food did come out it all came out at once. I had one bite of my scone and told the waitress to take it away since I wanted it 45 minutes ago. No apology, nor a comp of any kind, just owners and staff that are too busy to take care of what makes a small business special. Best of luck to them but by far the biggest disappointment in NYC from all the places we had researched and been excited to go to.
Wonderful place to have a mother-daughter bonding, also a calm and pleasant place to catch up with the girls. I love their breakfast madness, the pumpkin pancake and the scones! I also grabbed a tea gift box and gave it to my boyfriends mom. She was really delighted. Great place even for non-tea lovers, just cross your fingers to get a table on very busy days, especially weekends.
We went to here as we were staying in Upper West and there were largely good reviews for the place. We were celebrating a birthday too. I don’t know what happened that day (29 March) but I’d rather have eaten my own vomit than the disgusting ‘scones’ we were served up. I had what purported to be a strawberry and Nutella scone. It was microwaved to within an inch of its - and my - life, presumably to mask the fact it’d been sitting there for days, maybe weeks. It smelt, as the birthday girl commented, like ‘dead, wet dog’. Needless to say it didn’t taste any better than it smelt. We pushed it aside, hoping and assuming that the buttermilk scone would be so much better. I’ve no idea how, but it was even worse. Again, microwaved to death, it was like eating a mouthful of salt. Stinky, stale salt. Ugh. To call it a disappointment would be a gross understatement. What makes it even worse is the fact that the afternoon cost more than $50. And while it’s great that the staff get paid the going rate and therefore there’s no need to tip (although obviously we are actually paying the tip by paying more for the food), it sadly also means that when you want to complain that your scones taste like ‘dead, wet dog’, there’s no waiting staff to be seen. By the time we paid the check we were so desperate to get out that it wasn’t worth the hassle of complaining. Enough birthday time had been wasted here. So, in short, we will never, ever go here again. I never leave bad reviews, I just learn from experience. This was so awful it needed a review too, especially when it means I’ve wasted 50 bucks. Shame on this place. Oh and don’t expect ‘clotted cream’, as the menu states. It’s cheap squirty cream, and not enough to make a vile scone taste mediocre.*Weve never eaten ‘dead, wet dog’ but have no doubt it would taste better than these scones.
A romantic, unassuming, delightful place for tea and more. Best deal is a large teapot for two (try the masala chai) and a scone, large enough to satisfy two people. Perfect place for those rare moments when you can sit back and enjoy the luxury of an afternoon tea. It is a great place for lunch as well, though prices are up there. Sandwiches are delicious but they don’t come cheap, though they are served with a salad with interesting dressing.
We went on Dec 10, Saturday around 12 & it was crazy busy. We let them write down out names & waited an hour until there was table for two. It was super worth it. The food is so yummy & the tea is spectacular & the chocochip cookies so yummy too >w< my love & I shared a pot of peach blossom tea & loved it so much we took some leaves home~! I cant wait for tomorrow when well have the scones we bought home >w<This place is mad expensive but its not fancy expensive if that makes sense & honestly it was well worth the experience cause we most likely wont be in the area again anytime soon XD
The selection of teas is simply staggering. I was blown away by how many teas there were. The flavors are delicious and it is a great place to come hang out with friends or on a date. If you come, you must try out the scones. They come with delicious cream and a raspberry preserve that is to die for!
A wonderful experience from start to finish. We had a groupon and I made a reservation, which I totally recommend so that youre not waiting for a long period of time. We were seated quickly. The tea menu is very extensive, my mom and I had a hard time picking one! We got the Salmon sandwich, the Alices BLT, orange and cranberry, oreo and pumpkin scones, Organic Ginger orange Peach tea and chocolate mousse. They bring out the food on a 3 tiered plate, and they bring out a lot! Everything was delicious, and the orange and cranberry scone was definitely our favorite. The tea is unlimited, so we got the Hawaiian paradise too. Everything comes out quick and fresh. Will 100% come again.
We held my friend’s bachelorette party here and had such an amazing afternoon! The Mad Hatter tea service was wonderful and the staff brought us unlimited tea, sandwiches, scones and cake. Truly amazing! They also accommodated all of our various dietary requirements. Highly recommend this tea room for special occasions!
Great food / pastries and a great tea selection!Cute accommodation / Alice in wonderland style.Super friendly staff. We didnt plan a stop here, but it was the best choice to walk in on a cold day after a walk in the central park - walking distance from here.Cant wait to go there again!
Delicious tea and scones, great service, charming decor. At peak things are a little slow but definitely worth the wait. Scones are fall apart soft and melt in your mouth. I got the buttermilk scone and its delicious with or without the jam. The black fruits tea is delicious with half a packet of sweet n low (and I did experiment with milk and honey, too). Can get a little loud at peak but overall very cozy. Tables have little Alice in Wonderland nicknacks that certainly make cute points of interest for kids
I went here yesterday and the guy was really nice and helpful, but I went back today and the woman working was rude and snotty. It’s a cute place and the iced tea was delicious, but I guess it depends on who’s working there when you go. I like knowing a place has consistently nice service.I went in again today and was told they don’t do iced tea anymore! WHAT? I’m melting with a hot flash. I need cold tea. This is totally discrimination against menopausal women and anyone on chemo! We’re sweating in the freezing cold. Plus, it’s only 60 degrees out. How is making iced tea that I’m paying $4 for such an issue? I’m done here.
I have been coming here on a regular basis with two of my long-time girlfriends from nursing school for more than a decade - it has become a tradition and Our Spot. We always leave feeling satisfied, cozy, and well-nourished. I know theyre known best for their tea selection and their scones, but EVERYTHING on the menu is amazing. We have done all three meals separately at some point or another and we each have tried everything on the menu. For breakfast, my go-tos are the vegetarian egg-white omelet or Alices Florentine. For lunch or dinner, my go-tos from the sandwiches are the Lapsang Souchong Smoked Chicken, Curried Chix Salad, or the Tea-Egg Salad. Any time of day were there, I always have a large pot of tea with two scones with the dishes. Its a totally legit meal and never disappoints!
A family friendly restaurant which is perfect for brunch. Many of the diners are families with kids, and both the service and the menu accommodate the younger crowd. My friend described the venue as Disneyland meets Bernie Sanders, and the hippie design and vegan options definitely reinforce that notion.I got the Florentine Benedict, which oddly enough does not come with Hollandaise sauce (had to pay extra for it). The dish was delicious, and the raspberry chocolate scone I got as an extra was a nice addition -- the jam was delicious! My friend got the Salmon Benedict and cream cheese and chives scone, both of which were a success. We shared one of the house teas which was a wonderful escort to the meal.Highly recommended, whether youre a family or grownups only!
This place is very cute in its service style and decor. Dont underestimate the tea menu! This is for tea lovers and snack lovers. Recommend for kids who love to become fairies. The only thing I could see that could be improved upon is service time as it takes longer than usual even when theres not a lot of people.
Ok this place is novel. It’s sort of for kids but sort of for adults. My daughter had fun. The only negative that depending on you is not a negative is the size of the ice cream sandwich. My daughter ordered it. She’s 5. No one said hey buddy this thing is huge. So my wife and I get scones. Then this giant ice cream sandwich comes out. It was way too much. But the whole thing was 27 bucks so good deal.
You would think that a place that claims to take tea seriously would know how to make a pot of tea. Nope! My first pot was bitter and undrinkable. The second one was even worse.Service here was awful! Our waiter never came to check on us despite passing the table multiple times. I would love to say it was because the place was busy but he was interacting with the bigger tables just fine. He never even stopped to give us a check. We had to get the hostess to print the check out. I guess my husband and I werent worth his time because he was bound to get a bigger tip from a table with more people.I was really looking forward to afternoon tea here but was sadly disappointed. With other options for tea in the city I doubt Ill ever come back.
Not as expected. Serve was lacking and this was not a traditional formal afternoon tea service. Scones and tea were delicious. Little tea elements were missing such as no tongs to remove sandwiches or pastry from the plate stand. Server didnt offer any drinking water. Very loud restaurant. More suited for children. Overall not reasonably priced in my view.
This is my absolute restaurant in the entire world. I have gone to Alices my entire life. I have never experienced bad service or unsatisfactory food. It is a magical place with amazing tea. If you are able to make the trip to visit this gem of a restaurant, DO IT. I cannot express how deep my love is for this place. A true gem.
Marvelous . Alices Tea Cup Room is wonderful. The staff is very professional, attentive, concerned about meeting the needs of the customer. The Madhatter Tea for Two is fantastic. We had Curry Chicken Salad & Tuna Salad sandwiches, (3) scones (highly recommed pumpkin and blueberry/orange), slice of cake, and a variety of cookies. It also included a choice of your own picking of tea.
Very delicious teas (My favorite is Alice tea) and fantastic cakes! Carrot cake and banana chocolate are top favorites. Sandwiches are ok but pricey. The place is usually very crowded for lunches, there is a line. A long line for bathroom as well )Although it’s great you can buy any tea in the shop and enjoy it at home.Nice artsy interior.

Amazing and wide variety of teas, with a whimsical Alice and Wonderland theme, complete with expected cafe food, scones, and sparkles! You can grab a cup to go or have a nice breakfast, lunch, brunch, or tea time here and everything Ive eaten, from the chocolate chip scone to a watercress and cucumber sandwich, was absolutely light, fresh, and delicious. Some of their most impressive teas are the Sparrows Soul (which can easily replace your basic chamomile), Casablanca (which mixes Earl Grey, Green, and Mint), and Jasmine Pearls. If you sign up you can get a free 2 oz of tea on your birthday, or you could just go in and buy as much or as little loose tea as you want to steep at home. Fun (and tasty) for all ages!
Went on a Sunday morning early (arrived by 9:30 am) with my sister. No reservations.TEA: Tried the almond black tea, which was good. Would have preferred the Earl Grey but they were out of stock =(FOOD: The bread pudding French toast was AMAZING!! Definitely something to get (and share, its a bit heavy) if you are feeling something sweet. My sister and I are notorious for ordering one savory dish and one sweet and splitting the two. The savory item was the Eggs Florentine. I liked the touch of the scone instead of the English muffin. We also got a side of Chicken sausage which was tasty and well cooked - nice little crunch to it without being burned to a crisp.Overall was happy to get back here after many, many years and look forward to my next visit!
You will feel as if you have gone back in time when you step into this charming and comforting tea house. Every part of Alices Tea Cup refers to Alice in Wonderland and to the fine experience of partaking of tea. The menu is well appointed, and the tea list makes it hard to make a choice! I had a velvety smooth butternut squash soup with a 1/2 chicken sandwich and a glass of Prosecco, and saved the tea for dessert, which was a fabulous chocolate cake with buttercream icing. It was generous, so my friend and I shared it. And dont forget to get a scone with clotted cream and jam. Meals are beautifully prepared and presented, and the service is friendly and non-rushed. This reviewers only complaint is that they could use an extra toilet, especially since the existing one is for all genders. I hope they can do something about that, as it is an inconvenience to customers. Otherwise, do make a point to go down this rabbit hole!
The scones benny is absolutely fantastic, everything you love about benny but with their fantastic scones. I prefer the savoury scones but the sweet ones are delightful too from what I hear. The theme is great and youll often see children dressed up with wings and such. Very cute but they are as much about the food as they are about the theme. For food, get the scones benny. For tea, I like the potus!
I went with a group for a birthday lunch and was disappointed in the food. The tea sandwiches tasted like they were sitting out since the day before and the flavors werent great. Its just not what I would expect for a $60+ per person meal, even for NYC, I wouldnt recommend it.
We came here because of the good reviews but we were highly disappointed.1. There isnt any Alice wonderland theme in their food and tableware. The only thing that reference to Alice is their name and the drawings in the toilet.2. Food - served in high tea style and was horrible.3. Service - wasnt great and the queue wasnt worth it.I wont recommend it, for the price we paid, we would go to a decent hotel for high tea instead.
This is one of my favorite places to go when Im on the UWS! Alices teacup is the perfect place if you like desserts, scones, cakes and a bit of originality. Not only is the cafe super cozy and cute, it also is super charming and is decorated with beautiful artwork depicting scenes from Lewis Carrols fairytale wonderland. Great selection of teas too!
The take out service is barely edible and the waiters are incompetent. I had just finished ordering when all of sudden the speaker on the phone changed genders and I had to reiterate the order all over again. Normally, I wouldnt mind such an inconvenience, yet the male I was speaking with was even more inept than the woman I spoke with in the first place. Im sure seating people is overwhelming, I mean Alices is popular right? WRONG. If people dont have the patience and decency to deal with a customer whos on the phone, what good is the place then? The poached eggs were sub-par, the toast was hard as brick. I mean who can screw up toast? Well apparently this location did. The potato hash was the only semi decent dish that I ordered, yet it still lacked flavor and seasoning. Ive eaten at Alices before in a different location and the food was excellent. Im sure the food is excellent INSIDE the cafe. I dont understand how the take-out could be this terrible. Im a paying customer and naturally I would expect the same quality food as if I decided to dine in instead. Alas, not everyone has that luxury, which is why I ordered in the first place. In conclusion, never order take- out, if you sit in the service is expected to be great ( not sure how accurate that will be though) , and hey NYC is full of cafes and restaurants WAYYYYY better than Alices unsavory eatery, I mean tea cup.
This place was PHENOMENAL! My girls first trip to NYC and I googled great places for kids and it popped up. I wont spoil all of the things they do but it was a magical experience. The staff was amazing our server Sophia was so nice and explained all of the different menu options to my girls. Bruce from the time we walked in until after we had breakfast/brunch came and checked on us and explained other food options. We were buzzing when we came in and ALL SMILES 😍 When we left. This by far beats American Girl Place Tea. My only regret is we didnt wear our hats and gloves. Must EXPERIENCE!!
Took my 5 year old for her birthday and she loved it. They sprinkled her with fairy dust and loaned her butterfly wings she was over the moon. The teas are amazing. The food us really geared towards adults not children so much but the experince is so fun the food doesnt even matter.

2022-07-04I’ve been on a scone hunt and Alice’s has had the best so far! I would rate their other food as average though. I came here for the first time to do afternoon tea (extensive tea selection!) and have returned many times just to get scones for takeout.Their wait staff is not very good; we were there for THREE hours for afternoon tea service, not intentionally but because the waiter didn’t bother to check in on us for the last 90min. However, the hostess and owners were wonderful and made up for the experience!

2022-06-25Sweet little spot for high tea! We enjoyed their lovely themed indoors. I enjoyed the nibbler with the berry scone, chicken sandwich, cookies, and St. Mark’s tea. The teacups and kettles were so cute- the plates matched. We reserved our seats ahead of time online for two just in case. It became pretty busy, even just after they opened.Bathroom requires a code!

2022-07-04A fun place to have a tea party or to meet with friends or family for a cuppa. The sandwiches were delicious as were the cookies etc. There’s a huge variety of tea to choose from. Something for about every taste. Pricing was high but you are paying extra for a bit of experience. Service was a bit slow when we were there. 10 minutes before we were greeted at the door. Had to ask for the ticket because after delivery of the tea we didn’t see our server again. Overall it’s a good experience if you’re not in a hurry.

2021-11-16As a huge Alice In Wonderland fan and a tea lover Alices is like heaven for me. Its cozy, whimsical, and comfy inside and the tea service is delicious. We got two tea services for two for four people and it was the perfect amount of food. Everything was delicious and there is a huge amount of different teas to choose from. I highly recommend stopping in!

2022-03-30Being fans of the traditional English high tea, we are always on the lookout for a good tea place. We found one here at Alices Tea Cup. The sandwiches, scones and pastries were all delicious and there is a huge assortment of teas to choose from. The staff are all nice people too.

2021-07-12I absolutely loved it here!!! I made a reservation for 11 on a Thursday which I ended up not needing. However, by 12 it was fairly busy! I got The Nibbler which was great for me. It looks like they have 3 set scone flavors and an additional 3 flavors that change. I loved all the teas, but Stardust was my favorite. I got 2 different teaces for $10 an ounce. All the staff was amazing and super helpful!

2022-07-03We made a reservation for the Mad Hatter afternoon tea to celebrate a milestone birthday. Haley was very responsive via email in answering my questions and making and adjusting my reservation. We were warmly greeted by Rachel when we arrived and she made the birthday celebrants feel extra special with a fairy dust welcome! Our table in the charming Raspberry Room was ready. Kenya was very attentive as our server. All the food and teas were delicious. Kenya, Rachel and Bailey went the extra mile to prepare a special candle I had brought to put on the birthday cupcakes. We were very pleased with the entire experience. The service was excellent and highly recommended. Thank you for the wonderful memories! We plan to return next time were in the City.

2022-04-22Very cute tea parlor with an amazing variety of tea. They also have a bakery if you don’t want to do a sit down tea service. The tea service is a lot of food and I couldn’t finish it. Maybe the next time I’ll just get a tea and scone instead

2022-06-26Dropped in without reservations or plans. We were seated relatively quickly. They were very busy but the servers were extremely friendly despite being busy. They could probably use one or two more servers if that level of business is typical.Tea was fantastic! I also had the carrot cake, which was decadent and delightful. Would come back and recommend.
