Alto Music in other cities:
I have made 3 separate purchases from Alto Music through their website. the staff is very knowledgeable and courteous when calling to ask questions concerning gear. Also I made a mistake on one of my orders. they corrected it immediately and emailed an updated invoice which was in my in box as soon as I hung up the phone. Alto Musics Customer service is top notch! Thanks!
Its a mixed bag of s#!¥ between not understanding the customer and not listening . To not knowing product. The store is understaffed and way too big .sections are closed off to prevent customers from shopping freely and the space is miss managed. So they make the excuse that it is there wear house location because stuff is everywhere.
Terrible company to work with. Lack of communication, slow on refunds, had to follow up many times just to get a proper response. I paid for 2 new Voxbox and they shipped me 2 open box, before they ship out the items I contacted them and asked why is this item listing in invoice as condition 1 while all other new items listed as condition 0 and got no response. Charge customer shipping fees for returning an item that was supposed to be already cancelled. Once items are returned, youll have to follow up with them to start processing and they dont give full refunds without telling you why. I had to file a charge back with credit card company. I will never do business with this company again or encourage anyone to give them your business. Be careful with the Altobucks you earn from this company, any any given time they say they can cancel the credits and you wont be able to use it for any future transaction. If you earn Altobucks as part of a big order and if you returning partial order they will take back all Altobucks including for the items that you want to keep. Bring your business to Sweetwater, B&H or Vintage King instead, far better returns/exchange policy and much better communication with customers.Response 1:Calling your customer a fraud for not happy with the way you conduct business? I did not place or return 20 orders. This was 2 orders, 1 for $19,964.53, and I emailed to cancel right away to place another order #2 with different items for $12,068.71. But you choose to ship out part of the first cancelled order and make me pay shipping to ship it back. And you didnt allow me to use the 20% Altobucks for the Barefoot when I clearly emailed and told you that if I can’t use the Altobucks then do not ship the Barefoot. And yet you still ship and decided to charge me for it, and I’ll have to pay shipping cost back, and got charge shipping cost to me. About me being a music supplier or not is irrelevant. I don’t have to pretend to be a musical supplier, as I do not gain any discount or special treatment from from your company. I paid the same price as everyone and you just choose to treat me differently because I change my mind on a few items, and that wasn’t even after I received it. I emailed about the change within 1 hr after acing order online. The way you conduct business forced me to return everything. And 2 Voxbox you shipped was open box. Manley doesn’t use clear tape to reseal on top of their paper tape. And the condition code is “1” on the invoice while all other new items condition as “1”. After almost 2 weeks of returning tracking showing delivered I still get no response for refund. I have to contact your company for you to start looking the items that was delivered 2 weeks ago, and all the sudden you found it when I emailed asking about it.
Bought used like new for $100 cheaper. This thing is new!!! Double boxed. No broken keys.! These guys knew of flimsy Korg box and addressed the problem. Hats off to FedEx for two day shipping and carefully handling package. Will be used at small public school and church events. You got to buy from these guys instead of the big box music wearhouses. They really do care!
I recently moved to the area and went to trade in some gear toward the purchase of a new item, much like I’ve done in the past at other retailers. After standing there for quite some time I finally got someone’s attention to let them know I had some gear to trade in.They directed me to wait for a manager and told the manager I was waiting to trade in some gear. He glanced over at me with an awful look and took his time, leaving me waiting another 30 minutes.During this time I witnessed African American employees being spoken down to by managers or ignored when they asked questions. The Pro Audio salesperson didn’t know how to operate or demo the equipment and I was told to come back another day.I left my information for the store owner to call and he didn’t bother.I live 15 mins away from alto music but It is worth it to take the drive to New Jersey or New York and go to Sam ash or guitar center. I never ran into an employee at those places that didn’t know how to demo a product, more personable and management/owners are all about the customer experience . These other places are better stocked as well.Edited to respond to Alto Musics claim about purchasing an item in the store. They later changed their response to “after”visiting the store, I made no purchase in store during my visit. After the poor treatment of the employees mentioned above and after speaking to what were supposed to be pro audio personnel that had no idea how to operate pro audio equipment that i brought in, I left without purchasing anything. The purchase was made online. Which brings me to my next point, how on earth could I purchase it from one of your salespeople that have no knowledge of pro audio products? I had to forego trading in gear to save some money because your customer service was so poor, and I needed to get some work done which is why I made the purchase online.
It was my first time in the store and the man at the front was so helpful. He guided my gift buying process by giving me advice on things I didnt even know to ask. Wonderful experience and I would recommend this store to anyone who needs an instrument for their child.
The covid pandemic has changed so many things and Alto music is only of many. Many of the people who once worked there are gone, but even so I was able to get the best price on a microphone that I have been eyeing for some time. Although I miss who I always dealt with in pro sound, I found the best price , the quickest service and I have to say that Steve, who now fills the position in that department ,made me completely satisfied with his attention to all of the aspects of the deal. I got sound advice, a great price, a confident feeling and a really great mic. The only reason that I give it only 4 stars is because of the limitations in the store due to covid protocol.I guess to be fair, you cant blame them. Lets hope that the need for that will soon disappear.
I had a concierge appointment today with Rik to look for an acoustic guitar. I am a somewhat experienced electric player, but know close to nothing about acoustic. Due to my lack of knowledge, I wasnt able to really articulate exactly what I was looking for. Even in spite of that, he did a spectacular job helping me find what I was looking for.Rik made a few great recommendations to start and happily let me play any model I was interested in. He was extremely knowledgeable on the specs and characteristics of each guitar he was suggesting.Ultimately I was able to find the perfect guitar for me today with Riks help. Thanks Rik!-Jon
Since the recent passing of my stepson to cancer and having played in the studio for the first time yesterday, my emotions lead me to want to purchase the snare drum of my youth. Even though I play mostly guitar and have played professionally my whole life, drums as my first baby and it was time to replace my 6 1/2 inch Ludwig Supra-Phonic. So I begin my search and landed on alto music. Natalie to be specific. I have been in a pretty raw emotional state considering that along side of being a jersey guy, I was not ready to deal with your average online music store rep. Natalie was wonderful. Kind, very professional, very caring, went above and beyond for service and was an angel at a time of such vulnerability and great loss for me. I am looking forward to my next purchase from alto music all being brought about by Natalie at alto music. Derek Ferwerda.
What a great store. The man at the front (Nick) was very helpful, and quite handsome I may add. His delightful persona was quite charming and stirred something in my soul I had thought was dormant for many years. His look burned a hole in me I cant forget. I was able to draw 3 sketches of him from memory that day (have since completed 9) They should give him a raise on that alone, but he even knows about guitars too! sooo hot. Alto also had a great collection (im thinking I dont know even like music) Definitely will be back and recommending to everyone!
Poor customer service and product knowledge. I literally called the store and after being transferred all throughout the store I tell them Im coming to the store to get the item I get to the store before closing time with employees in the store but they would not let me in to purchase the item I was on the phone telling them I was gonna purchase. It seems this music store does not care about the customer
I am an out of state customer and worked with Rik on a custom order from Sandberg. Rik was attentive, easy to work with, and provided great communication throughout the process. I was notified as soon as the bass arrived and had it in my possession two days later. I was also absolutely thrilled with how the bass turned out. Its always challenging trying to project what a bass will sound like when its being created from scratch, but the bass was everything I had hoped for and more. I must admit, I did have my concerns ordering a custom instrument from an overseas manufacturer through a dealer. I have ordered my fair share of customs, but usually working directly with the builder. I can confidently say that if I ever order another custom Sandberg, Rik at Alto will be my first call.
It’s almost like they are actively trying to turn the store solely into a warehouse. If you do not want customers coming in just say so. The customer service here is comically bad. I had dropped off a guitar to have it setup, and had some notes because I wanted it setup the way I like it. Of course I wasn’t able to speak with the guitar tech so I left the notes with the intake customer service representative. To my surprise it was not setup the way I wanted it. I think they just put the strings on it (which I supplied) I basically paid $60 for a new 9V battery. Apparently the actual guitar tech has a one month wait? Who’s setting it up now than? It’s bizarre. I’m never coming back here for anything more than a pack of strings. I was going to order a custom shop guitar through this store but now I would never, they can’t even do something as simple as setup a guitar. The way this store is setup and how it functions completely negates the point of going to a physical store. Don’t bother coming here, go to another store that actually cares or online.
I loved the experience. My first time in an actual music store and I was very impressed with the customer service from every associate. Mike did a great job with putting my mind at ease about choosing the right keyboard and showing a wide variety of choices to choose from. All in all, very good experience and would be visiting again some time soon.😊🙏🏽
I was looking for a Felt Pick...they were sold out...the Felt Pick is for my 5 year old Granddaughter for Christmas...Back to the Felt Pick, the clerk said we just had a delivery...Ill see if any came in...he walked towards me with a box of Felt Picks...I thanked him very much...If you need anything related to musical instruments, go to ALTO...
ALL AROUND SUPER MUSIC SUPPLIER!!Initial texts and comments answered in minutes.Always up front and to the point. Perfect!!I purchased a mint DWCP 5002-AD4 Double Kick it came in one day after ship with original box, DW case and all tools and stuff you get on a new sale and it is better than mint it LOOKS NEW!!Thank you so much Natalie!!! and all involved in this sale. I am so happy and playing away all through the holiday season !!!J. C.
I ordered the On Stage Light stand. It was damaged and missing parts. They told me to send back and upon proof it was sent back, they would ship out new one. They received the one back but never sent the replacement. They claimed they could not find it. They had the parts in stock that was damaged and missing, but would not send. They wanted to order a new one. Buyer beware, do not order online from this company. Their online customer service sucks.
Great customer service! I purchased a set of studio monitors and realized after the fact that I could have gotten 15% back in store credit, had I used a coupon code. I followed up with an e-mail and they were kind enough to go back and apply the coupon code. I will definitely purchase from them in the future.
Very positive experience! This was my first time buying equipment for outside gigs. I didn’t really know what I would need and it took a few emails/phone calls before I was ready to make the purchase. Natalie, the sales rep, was amazing!!! She was knowledgeable and patient during the whole process. She made recommendations that fit in my budget and even arranged to have everything shipped to my home. I highly recommend Alto Music and Natalie!!
I have dealt with most of the big name online music stores over the years. I will say no one responded as quickly as Emely, my salesperson at Alto. She was efficient and helpful through the whole process. Alto is only one who had the product I wanted in stock. Great experience.
This is, honest to all I believe in, the best, most considerate and caring store for sound artists and musicians. The way they do business is not only to do business but it encourages the musics and producers community to thrive and not to limit themselves. Awesome job ♥️
Honestly the entire world is open again except Alto and the DMV. Its actually easier to deal with the DMV right now then alto imagine that. I am not making an appointment to buy something from a music store if its not up on there main level stock, that is just absolutely Absurd. After 22 years dealing with alto i started buying from SweetWater and if you havent already you should check them out. They match any price and the shipping is practically overnight its so fast. They also send you a bag of candy with your purchase. I have to thank Alto and there Absurd way of doing buisness for helping me find sweetwater. Thanks guy.. Cancel my appointment forever👍
Great place.. Lots of stuff in the music category.. Great prices and fast friendly service...purchased key board and 2 ukulele and am learning to play both.. am glad I took someone elses advice when they told me to check out Alto Music cause I was looking for a nice Keyboard and other stuff...thank you Alto Music 🎶 👍👍😊
Never used them before, but had studio monitors shipped from here. Spoke with Dan over phone about the shipping expectations and their demo model I ordered. He was extremely easy to communicate with, helpful, and their store exceeded my expectations with delivery time. Strongly recommend shopping with them!!
I have been searching for a 75th Anniversary Strat for a while now. Searched online saw that Alto had ready to ship under the price. Took a ride up to Middleton NY, was greeted by a young man who searched the inventory and found 2 in stock. I inquired about price matching and he then put me onto Mike the tech, he brought out both they matched my price I picked the lighter one 😂 and left a happy man. Great store professional and courteous, thanks againAnthony A
I recently purchased a Kemper Stage through Alto and hadn’t noticed that there was a discount code available until a few hours afterward. Alto was kind enough to refund the money that the discount code would have taken off the price. This type of customer service is hard to find nowadays, and Alto has turned me into a loyal customer moving forward. I will continue shopping with them whenever possible. Thanks Alto team!
Me and my dad went for a quick buy for an early Fathers day gift. We didnt have an appointment scheduled, yet everyone who saw us from the door onwards helped with anything we needed. We didnt feel any rush, they took their time to help out untill we were fully satisfied. Being a last minute no appointment, Rick took care of us perfectly, patiently looked through the inventory asked us important questions what we were looking for specifically. Then took the time to open a brand new Fender American Pro right out of the box for us to demo never been used or tuned. We loved the quality and the attention to make the customer happy we instantly fell in love with the guitar and baught it no hassel. Thanks Rick and to the awesome employees! If your in the area this shop is a must visit.
We called twice today to ask if they had a specific guitar in stock. When we got there we were informed we needed to make an appointment. That would have been nice to know before we drove over. After some pushing they took us back to the guitars where the salesman told us they do pretty much online orders only now.. he went off to look for the guitar we were told was in stock. After 20 minutes of no return we left. Ive been there before and was always happy but this whole experience was a waste of time we will buy the guitar online for cheaper. Which we could have done to begin with but wanted to support local. It honestly felt like they didnt even want to sell a guitar. Its doubtful we will return again.
Absolutely amazing customer service! I ordered a used Roland Keyboard that was listed in mint condition. Unfortunately it came with a bunch of scratches and some technical issues that I thought I resolved with a firmware update, but it didnt fix the problems. Not only were they quick to respond, but they also replaced it with a brand new unit for my troubles! Extremely quick customer service and they went WAY above and beyond what I was expecting!
Last year I bought a Gretsch Electromatic at Alto. Good guitar. Eventually, I went to TV Jones Classic pups. I wanted to upgrade the pots. The luthier who did the work, elsewhere, did not do well. All the dials had to be turned up all the way to get sound. A washer fell out of the guitar body. Something was rattllng around inside the body. I did not want to get in a situation where I was continually going back to him to make it right, as more than one thing was wrong, Altos tech, Tom, is an electrical engineer. He checked out my guitar, said he would put in pots that would produce a full sound. I picked it up on 9/3. Its now 9/19 and I havent touched my other guitar, which is sweet. I will pick it up. Soon. But, I am enjoying Toms work. Lastly, he came in at a price significantly under the high estimate, but I would have gone with the high estimate.Outstanding work.
Im a professional musician. Meaning I earn my living from playing music with over 200 live gigs a year. When I need anything related to my business, I always get it at Alto! Got my whole PA system (QSC K12s and K10s) there. Microphones, cables, stands etc. They always have a ton of stuff in stock and Im very lucky I live halfway between the Middletown and Wappingers Falls stores.Staff have always been professional and very helpful! Highly recommended!
I went to trade in/sell my barely used Ampeg amplifier, they offered me 50 for trade in or less if i wanted cash, then they put it for sale for 150, wish they were less greedy and offered me at least 50% of the value they were gonna sell it for later since they are already making money on the new item I bought.
Great customer service! Will be using them for all my gear purchases in the future! I recently bought a snare and some other hardware.. Dan from drums reached out to me right away with my expected ship dates and to see if I needed anything else. All music stores could learn a lesson on customer service from Alto!! Customer for life right here!
I can’t express enough how great the experience and amplifier has been. Great price, it was listed as“Mint condition” but seems brand new to me.They were a pleasure to do business with, fast delivery, well packaged, and it is the best sounding amp I’ve ever had. Thank you to Alto Music, great job!
First time ordering from them and I have to say that the shipping time was extremely fast. It may have been a little too fast though because I received the wrong item.I would’ve rather waited a little longer and received the correct item then get the wrong one in less than twenty-four hours. The item was also shipped in the original packaging with nothing to protect it from the shipping process whatsoever and as a result, had damage to the packaging. I’m kind of glad it wasn’t the right item because seeing something shipped like that is an immediate red flag for me.It’s probably just my bad luck, but I won’t be shopping with them ever again regardless.
The best drum shop Ive seen in this part of the country bar none. Service is second to none, the selection is excellent and Dan, the drum department manager, encourages you to take sticks to anything you like. He knows his product inside and out, goes out of his way to order anything you like and always makes shopping there a positive experience. In all my dealings with the drum department Ive gotten excellent deals and customer service. With all Ive seen in the other departments, everyone has been knowledgeable and courteous.I recommend Alto to all my friends without reservation. Please visit them. You wont be sorry you did. Please feel free to ask me anything, Ill always answer.
Alto Music not only sells great products at a great price, the customer service is amazing, very friendly, and very helpful. They follow through on everything they tell you. Extremely fast shipping. Definitely will be my favorite place to shop for all my music needs. Thanks Alto, Id give 10 stars if I could.
Absolutely first-class, professional yet warmly personal help received from the Alto Music representative Anthony. Patient and friendly, quick responses to my SMS enquiries. It looks like Alto got it very right not only in terms of gear, but first and foremost in terms of customer appreciation. Ten stars out of five!
Alto Music in Middletown, NY is a fine establishment. The selection of guitars range from beginner to high end, but not priced out of reach. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. You can play as you feel. No pressure. I always have good experiences at this store. If you have never been there, it is well worth the trip. Great guitars, great people.
Great music store. By one stop shopping for strings picks accessories for my guitars in my studio. Great knowledgeable staff always ready to help. Always running great deals and offers price match any advertised price or better.Highly recommended from beginner to professional.
I have and owned many Les Pauls throughout the years. The Epiphone Prophecy is the modern and Vintage sound you can get in one. The Fishman Humbuckers allow you to get that. The sounds are amazing and it also allows you to have single-coil voicing. It records very well and sounds great live. The neck plays very fast and its not a thick baseball bat. I can play thick necks and all but this one is not and its so easy to play. I can tailor sounds of old and pop it down for some really heavy sustain. Don;t let the sustain full you or it even being an all modern guitar. It also has very clean sound. If you add some dirt it can scream and you can hold a note till next Tuesday lol. It has a very cool look and feel. The Olive Tiger Aged Gloss really looks so cool. I had to get one and Im more than happy I did. Dont let this one slip away, Just buy one, you wont regret it. These are not easy to find and Guitar Center had one and so did Alto Music. I cant stand GC, very long story so I called and spoke to Mike and the conversation was great. Very Pro and Mike know his stuff, Stand-up guy. So now I own one and Alto Music is now my top priority for New and used gear. I loved the guitar so much that I lucked out on a Pre-owned Ampeg V-4 head. Even harder to find lol. Thanks so much, Mike and Alto Music, I feel like a kid in a candy store once again.
The Mystery of the Waldorf KyraI ordered a Waldorf Kyra, it arrived super fast. That was great, what wasnt: I ordered a new unit and clearly received a b-stock complete with a missing power supply amongst other issues, like the unit having zeropacking supplies to stable it during shipping. I knew these things were missing thanks to the Waldorf site, and a few unboxing videos. So, very distressed, I reached out to Tom F, my agent at Alto Music. He quickly responded to me apologizing for the mix up, then after we got off the phone, he lept from his chair grabbed his duster, hat, and loaded his pipe of yesteryear, taking a brief puff before getting on the case to figure out what foul play had befell Alto Music. In the shadows of the early morning he collected various clues, interviewed the usual suspects, and enlisted his most trusted partner, his Watson you might say, the keyboard warehouse manager, who is unnamed in this story because you know detectives have got to play things close to the chest, and keep his partners safe from potential threats, but Watson, deserves some recognition here too. After reviewing all information, cross referencing subjects, and pulling all the the Kyra units on hand, he came to a startling conclusion. The new Kyra units in stock were all...B-Stocks?!Bewildered and confounded by his discovery, he rang me up, and we discussed his findings, we resolved my issue, Tom was going to send out a power supply so I could test the Kyra out as I waitedfor a new one to arrive from the Deutschland. We agreed on this resolution and parted ways.Tom sat back in his desk, the air was still, too still, something was a miss.He knew it. Deep in his bones, he knew something was off, he felt it knocking, that surely there was more to this than it seemed, why would these be marked as New if there wasnt a New unit to begin with...The adrenaline began to take hold, and Tom was not going to let good enough stand in his way on his quest for the truth. He dialed Watson, demanded that the darkest depths of the docks be scoured, and any missing suspects be brought to his quarters immediately! When Watson arrived moments later, fresh out of breath from his journey from the docks, Tom saw what he was looking for, it glimmered, it gleamed, it was the missing piece of this twisted jigsaw,he found the one.The new one.Frantic and feverishly mad with this success he rang me, sharing the good news, in a most humble way, that he had gotten to the bottom of it all!I knew he would, Tom isnt the kind of guy who settles for good enough or second best. He is the top of the class by a long mile.Tom is amazing. Ive never had an agent go to the lengths that Tom did for me, and Ive been buying gear for a long long time.I also have no doubts that if he went this far for me, he does so for many other valued customers.Alto Music is lucky to have him, and I have no doubt he will continue to go the extra mile in ways many customers never expect. Its because of this that I cannot recommend Alto Music enough to all that will listen. Thanks for reading my praises for Tom, his Watson, and Alto Music.
I cant express enough how much this place and their customer service, is top notch and probably the best ppl I have ever dealt with. Steve DeFinis in the DJ department was so professional and on time with everything. My case was alil weird and he helped me right through it like a champ. I will never, shop elsewhere because of him and Emily. Emily was also so professional and on time. She works the keyboard department. I am a musician and Im constantly looking for more gear. Because of the customer service they provided and the speed of the shipping and quality of the equipment, I will always be a customer and shop at Alto Music. Thank you very much Steve and Emily.
This store is well stocked and has way better customer service than any other music store chain around. Along with that is a great selection of all kinds of instruments for all kinds of music. Also well located so easy to get to. The workers are also very knowledgable when leading me to what I was looking for without just trying to push me to buy the most expensive items.
I have been going to Alto music for years now and cant say enough about how awesome this store is. So much more than just a place to buy music gear. The free clinics and events are beyond great. Alto music has created a music community where musicians can learn and share about their craft. Dan from the drum department is super knowledgeable and will go out of his way to show and share all the cool/new gear the store has.BEST MUSIC STORE EVER!
I ordered a Danelectro Baritone 56 that was on back order with the manufacturer due to the COVID shutdown. Rik stayed in contact providing updates from the manufacturer of when to expect delivery. It was a pleasure doing business with them and will gladly look to them for future purchases.
Went there to get a tc electronic looper pedal today and I was asked if I needed help finally after 7 employees passed me and 15 min of waiting. I said yes and the guy never came back. Taking my business to Sweetwater or Amazon.12/4/21 edit*Were close to 2022 and this store is still in covid mode which is ridiculous. You cant really browse the store and window shop and they require you to ask for assistance. This is ridiculous already and its time to give it rest. No other music stores does this that Ive been to. When I shop i find what Im looking for and if Im interested in buying it Ill talk to somebody. Lets move on alto
The staff at Alto is A-1.They went above and beyond to help me find what I needed and Natalie even gave me a special price when I returned an item for a better model. I put the staff through the paces and they were kind and understanding .A great selection plus fast and free shipping.I will be shopping at Alto Music in the future.
Just a heads up, I had a return an item to Alto Music and they charged a 10% restocking fee. They sent the item shipped only in its original box, so just the box was a bit beat up when it arrived. When I returned the item (repackaged as new - it was unused), I was asked to double box the item to send it back as a return, which not only cost a significant amount more in return shipping fees, they ended up then charing the 10% restocking fee, PLUS charing for the original shipping out to me. All in all, I ended up losing close to $250 because of the return. Buyer beware — make sure you dont want to return to Alto Music.
A couple of weeks ago... I had to wait a few minutes for Mike, since most amps can only tested with a proper appointment. But man Im glad I did. Mike was awesome, he allowed me to test various amps and then really went above and beyond. I have a gig today and my daughters audio jack thingie to her mandolin broke... So I sadly tried to see if any mandolins were reasonably priced. I told him my problem and he happily and eagerly said he believed he can fix that. Put it this way, the mandolin was fixed (he didnt even charge me) and we came out with a brand new fishman amp. I was so happy!
Alto music is awesome, everything I’ve ordered shows up quick and in perfect condition, plus they have a great layaway program with nothing to lose if you can end up making the full payments within the time limit. They also have awesome customer service with quick response time should you need any help.
Ive purchased 2 of these QSC KW153 powered speakers with an awesome price! Sound clarity & performance is 2nd to none, especially when Im spinning my vinyl records! Alto Music & Tom Wooley made my dream come true to finally own these QSC KW153! They are very professional in handling my order and made it so easy for me to get it shipped the very next day to my home in a New York minute thanks Ari! Unbelievable! Now Im enjoying my QSC KW153 speakers are in full effect, even my neighbors are enjoying the experience from these QSC KW153 speakers, wink wink LoL..
Im surprised I havent done a review on Alto Music before... if you havent been there before... well... no exaggeration... I thought that anyone thats a musician or starting to become a musician would automatically know to go there, no matter where in the tri-state area they were/are.. anything you play.. they have it.. affordable, expensive, whatever.. the best is an understatement...
Phenomenal store! Has anything a instrumentalist could need, with a room entirely dedicated to testing guitars and basses, an entire section of audio and DJ equipment, and most importantly, great employees. I cannot recommend this store enough. Employees arent pushy, and are always willing to help. Theres an amazing selection of instruments as well, from 8 string basses to any piece of a drum kit you can think of!
I have been going to Alto for years and now bring my kids there for music instruments purchases. They have an excellent guitar section and they stock a large variety of instruments, as well as, DJ and recording equipment. Their rental program for school music programs is reasonably priced. Their staff is very knowledgeable and professional. Pricing is reasonable and their used instrument stock is very good. Returns or quality issues are addressed appropriately. Youre able to try out items before you buy them and they have a wide selection of instruments, accessories, and recording equipment available in store. They also have a great online presence for those too lazy to actually go to the store.
I came in here to buy a sound system for my place of business. The associates were very helpful and friendly the end guided me towards something that was appropriate for my needs and also for my budget. I would definitely recommend checking this place out. They have a lot of really cool stuff here. I also like the way that they have the store setup
Was a good store had been going here for years for all my electronic needs my say always keep everything or most of everything in stock. Came to chekck out equipment to update my speakers, they tell me they never have any staff in the back anymore. Wich is a lie. Because Ive always been gone back there to get a new light or Microphone And there was always someone back there. Was here for inn and out situation. 2nd time this happens. Experience has not bein what it was. Not coming back.
Very cool music store. Its one of the more spacious music stores Ive been to, and it benefits greatly from that by creating such a chill atmosphere. You can find almost anything in this store, and that makes this a go to place for any musician in the area. Alongside with great service, great instruments, and great people, Alto Music is the place to be.
I was starting out on vacation, driving to Chicago, and had a guitar with me. Too bad I forgot my little solid state amp. I still like to get some practice in while Im in the hotel room. Having realized I forgot it, and being 80 miles from home, I pulled up Google Maps on Android Auto in the car, and asked Android for the nearest guitar store. Alto came up and it just happened to be off the exit I was coming up to.Wow! What an incredible independent music store. Huge! Tons of amps, guitars, pedals, accessories etc. Just an incredible selection. I was blown away! Prices werent bad either. I left with a little Orange Crush solid state amp which was perfect for playing in a hotel room. And I damn near came close to leaving with two guitars. If it werent for limited space in the car.If youre a musician you have to check this place out. Heck its worth driving 80 miles for. In a world of homogenized, Wal-Mart like chain music stores, its great to see such an awesome independent store. All of the staff was friendly as well. Cant wait to get back there and come home with a few guitars!
Alto Music was hounding me for my identification to verify my address prior to shipping my guitar for my protection and that Synchrony bank required it. I called Synchrony Bank and their representative refuted this, stating it sounded fishy. A piece of mail with my current address from the county wouldnt suffice. I begrudgingly sent Alto Music a copy of my enhanced license with id blacked out and Alto Music written across my picture. Its been a week since I emailed this with zero communication back and no guitar. Clearly, Alto Music doesnt want my $500 during this pandemic. Should I take my money to a Mom and Pop store once they can open, again?Update: Despite any responses these guys give... you get the picture, right?
I tried to contact them twice via email. Once through their Reverb store and once through their E bay store. They never responded.Although they offer free shipping on the item I was interested in, they tried to charge me $15.00. On smaller items (a guitar pedal) it is the same cost to ship to Hawaii as the rest of the country. All the other dealers I have communicated with have been happy to offer me the same free shipping they offer to the continental U.S.Judging by the rest of the reviews, they seem like good people but they should pay more attention to their on line business...And be fair on how they treat people with a completely reasonable request.I buy and sell a lot of music equipment due to the limited choice of where I live and they are the only dealer who has tried to take advantage of that!
Alto Music has the musicians best interest at heart. The price and quality of their inventory are a sight for sore eyes to the financially strapped up and coming artist (myself admittedly). The customer service in store and online have always made my purchases easy and affordable. As someone who has grown up going to this store I have seen it grow into something beautiful for everyone on the musical scope. This store is for everyone, from the professional engineer, the struggling bedroom songwriter, to the open mic hero.If you dont believe me, GO SEE IT FOR YOURSELF.
I went in with an idea of what I wanted but really wasn’t sure I would explain it right. Well I did my nest to explain it to Bruce the guy at the front and he didn’t want to waste my time so he went to the back and got Mike H. And Mike went above and beyond and got me EXACTLY what I needed at a great price! And he showed a lot of patience and understanding! Thanks Mike!!
Have everything- not just equipment, but great integrity, high professionalism, and high astute professional knowledge. They’ve persuaded me to opt for cheaper gear over a more expensive one whenever they think the cheaper one is better, and they stand by their products and guarantees if a device ever turns out to be defective. They’re an absolute pleasure.
Always has a great stock of all types of Acoustic/Electric musical instruments, guitar pedals, accessories, Pro Audio, hardware, and anything else you would need. Staff is friendly. Guitar and drum techs are pretty helpful. Great prices as well. Recently bought a remake of a vintage Ibanez tube screamer pedal for my Blackstar Ht club 40 and I love it.
Purchased online through best buy. Product was inexpensive in value but took forever to be received. When i did use it, i found that the quality was distorted. Best buy wont guarantee it and Alto Music wont warranty the product either so i wasted over a week for nothing. Always read the return policy before you purchase anything.
My only dealings with Alto Music so far were with a ribbon microphone that died. I didnt even buy it from Alto, but as the distributor for this particular microphone, they gladly replaced it, no questions, no problems. The service I got was VERY polite and VERY fast. These guys get 5 stars in my book any time!!
Literally this place is my husbands version of heaven, they have everything can fix almost everything musical and the staff is always above bar talented, kind, funny and informative, I never buy anything anywhere else. Worst thing I can say is I wish they were open later on Friday cause they are an hour away and its a rush to get there before closing.
I absolutely LOVE going to Alto Music! Garth in acoustic guitars is amazing. Hes so knowledgeable and willing to work with you and give you advice without ever making you feel pressured to buy anything. I spent a lot of time trying out different guitars at Alto over the past 4 months or so (and not once did I feel pressured to spend a dime) and finally purchased the Martin of my dreams this past weekend. Another great thing is that the guitars are always in tune so you can pick up any one you like and just start playing. My family and I have purchased several guitars, a violin and a ukulele (and various accessories and odds and ends) from Alto and have never been disappointed in the products or the service. Ive checked out other stores such as Sam Ash and Guitar Center and they simply dont compare to Alto!
Good for guitars/drums/keyboards but I would recommend going to a specialty shop for string instruments. Excellent prices and I usually always find what I need. The expensive guitar room gets a little snooty sometimes. Nice acoustic guitar room, I would like to see some more quality classical guitars though!
There was a nice sound isolated bass room where I was able to sit with my bass and try lots of different amps without hearing three different guitar players at the same time like at Guitar Center. They also had a nice range of Gallien-Kruger amps in stock. (I assume the other brands I tried were also in stock, but didnt ask.)
Going to AltoMusic for my ProTools purchase was the best decision ive made in a slew of equipment decisions and purchases. Just today, Anthony Thompson took complete care and control of my ProTools renewal between our two different states locations. I was also given a great price i didnt even know was possible and his technical expertise is Outstanding ! Anthony is an excellent Ambassador for AltoMusic !
Alto Music is hands down the greatest music shop Ive ever been to. Theyre committed to serving musicians in the NY area. Specifically at Alto Music Middletown, the guitar technicians can literally turn an unplayable guitar into one that youd confuse for a brand new instrument. Id recommend their competitive prices and knowledgable staff to anyone in the area looking to buy a new instrument.
I typically dont write reviews, however, I felt more than inclined to do so. I decided to see what this place was all about as I have heard rather good things about Alto before. My wife and myself are staying with friends for the holiday weekend which is only about 20 mins from this place. I apologize ahead of time if my words are all over the place, but this place blew my mind, and its hard to describe how good this place really is. I am from the Buffalo NY area, and we most definitely have a selection of music stores .What I will say is that, none of them combined come close to how spectacular Alto is. This place is absolutely massive in size. And their inventory is out of this world. I myself am a guitar player, but you can get pretty much anything music related here!!!! For me as a guitar player, most music stores have such a stale collection of almost always the same things. Almost everywhere I go its always Gibson, Fender, some small amounts of Jacksons, Ibanez, and ESP/LTD. Alto has a refreshing stock of just the opposite, they have a huge selection of Ibanez, Jackson, and ESP/LTD. they also have a good selection of the normal Gibson and Fender stuff as well. I was, and am truly blown away by their selection and layout. The staff was absolutely wonderful to talk to, the first 5 minutes I was there, I must have had 6 associates ask me if I needed any help looking for something, or getting something down to try out. I was told I was able to try anything I felt like playing. Truly truly truly one of the best music stores I have been to!!!! Guitar Center doesnt have a thing on Alto!!!! In my own opinion, Guitar Center could learn a thing or two from the fine folks at alto. I will be returning in the spring with my father whom is also a guitar player. I have zero issues with driving 5 hours to go back to Alto. I wish I had a fat stack of cash to blow, because, I probably would have walked out with over 10 guitars!!!! If your a muscian of any sort, and you find yourself in the area, you owe it to yourself to stop in and see what an amazing place this really is. I honestly cant think of much else to form into words, you will just have to come see for yourself. This place is truly that good!!!!!!
I recently purchased two keyboards from Alto music. I worked with Christian keyboards, and he was fantastic and very knowledgable. My first visit after making a deal with him on the phone, was difficult since the people were not as aware of MIDI and the products in stock. But my next visit, Christian was there, and he helped me and gave me very competitive pricing. If you are musician and Keys or Composition is your thing, Alto is the place to go in Orangetown!
I recently purchased a new drum kit from Alto Music and can not believe how incredibly responsive the Drum Manager (Dan Faiano) was to my needs. Dan went the extra mile to make the sale happen, even taking additional photos and shooting a video of the kit for me. As an out of state customer, these extra steps sealed the deal for me.Dan is a thoroughly knowledgeable drum pro who made acquiring a really awesome kit a reality.Shop and buy with confidence from Alto Music, I know that I will again.
The inventory is second to none.Unfortunately the staff doesnt seem to care about selling anything or helping. I came in interested in trying out some G&L, John Page, Fender guitars, fully prepared to drop $1500-$2500 on an axe. Not a single person acknowledged I was even in the store. When I went in the guitar room, there was a salesman loudly complaining that no one clapped after he played a Jeff Beck song at his last gig. Again, no one acknowledged I was in the store.Id just as soon buy from a dealer who cares at least a little bit about me as a customer.
I had an awesome expierience shopping at Alto! The store is huge and I even heard that they are expanding which is great. The staff makes you feel like a part of their family and are super friendly, I had no problem shopping and getting what I needed for the year. I would recommend this store to anybody!
LolIt hurts me to say much less submit to the truth - I used to love this place. USED TO. I moved away from the area and compared every music store to Alto as THE Pinnacle. Unfortunately now, the store went downhill. I visited Alto Mtown several times in the last few months while in NY and have been shockingly and surprisingly disappointed. What happened?! Sharp fret ends, terrible setups (if the guitar even had one originally, hard to tell), rusty strings, etc. Although I will give props to the USA room and PK. Always on point and Phil is the man and knows his stuff. It just sucks that I walked in with cash and ended up walking right back out with it because I needed a cheaper guitar but, only a handful were actually playable. Cmon, guys...get it together.
They have just about everything related to music you can think of. The sell musical instruments, accessories, sheet music. They make repairs and educate your about your purchase. The service can be a little slow during busy times. Still, this is the go to place for all things music.
Theyve always been kind to me and friends of mine. I dont know how everyone who works there continues to be so kind and wonderful to everyone, especially since the employees have to sit and listen to the same wanna-be hot-shot, show off play smoke on the water 1000 times a day, or the teenager who smashes the drum set. Its amazing they all havent burned the place down in frustration yet. That being said, the instruments are wonderful as well as the selection- everything from the lower end of the spectrum to highend gear for the more experienced players. The prices are fair, and are usually around the same as those you would find online, if not better.
I just purchased a new Crumar mojo organ from these guys. They were very helpful and responsive during my initial purchase as I was trading in an old keyboard toward the new one. They offered a very fair price and worked with me to get the price where I could afford the new keyboard. Then I discovered the Crumar suffered from a bit of a bug. They were again very helpful and responsive in getting me a new replacement unit right away. Christian in the keyboard department was great to work with, as were all the staff I met. This is a great music store - knowledgable, friendly, attentive staff and a great selection! I will be coming back for my future needs for sure!
Do yourself a favor and go elsewhere. Repeated bad experiences. Mostly inexperienced staff that are rude and do not appreciate your business. Poor return policy. Bought a $150 bow for my daughters violin and the hairs started falling out after 2nd use. Accused her of damaging it. Also very bad experiences w/instrument repair. Go where your business will be appreciated!!
Always an excellent experience with so many fine additions to instruments and for orchestras... from elwctronix to acoustics.I know Chris with elecctronic pianos very well and if youre looking to purchase one just ask for Chrisand you will walk away with a beautiful instrument..
Not only did I get what I have been seeking for 30+ years, the whole experience was amazing! I have been only buying odds and ends from Alto, way back to when they were in a quarter of their current square feet out in Scotchtown, not for any other reason than that I had a drum shop I dealt with about an hour from here with whom I was quite satisfied. I also assumed that if I wanted competitive pricing, I had to go to a big chain store. And so this went on for years.Well this time I stopped in for a pair of sticks and the kit of my dreams was out on the floor at such a blowout price I couldnt even believe it. In fact I had just bought a kit the weekend prior, ironically, and had that as a delemma. Thats when Dan in the drum department jumped in. He clearly saw the look in my eyes and didnt pounce from a salesey point of attack, but from a standpoint of wanting me to have it. He KNEW what this meant to me all in an instant! All I can say is from there on out, he gave me a barrage of options of how we could possibly get this deal donw including layaway, no creadit no problem financing, etc. Within less than 24 hours, Im driving home with the kit and I think Dan was as overjoyed as I for me to have it.I am surprised all around. The prices are beyond competitive with large chain stores and even popular online sites. Their prices are actually lower. And, honestly, the square footage, inventory and pricing may say box store (a term I always hated) but the service is so hometown and personal I am turning to these guys from here forward. I almost feel guilty for having shopped elsewhere but Im glad this happened. Thanks Dan and the crew at Alto!
First off, dont get me wrong. The selection here is second to none. Ive gotten some one of a kind pieces here and thats great. But I have never been anywhere with worse customer service, a less-knowledgeable and less friendly staff, and a just overall terrible shopping experience.Do NOT give this store your business. Just dont. Go to your local Guitar Center instead. If Alto has a better price, GC will price match it and not talk down to you and treat you like garbage.DO NOT BUY FROM HERE IF YOU CAN AVOID IT. WORST STAFF ON THE FACE OF THE PLANET.
Just returned from Alto with my brand new DW Performance Series Kit. I researched for over 2 years before I decided on DW. The one thing I did not have to decide on is where to order it from. I have been going to Altos for many years now and Daniel Faiano in my opinion is the best Manager they have had there in a very long time. His passion for music and drums shows .. he takes his time with you , helps you research, give you a very honest opinion and will work with you to ensure that you get the best price and service. His assistant Donny Ruck is also very Knowledgeable and passionate and always willing to help.. it is a great team back there. I enjoy stopping by just to pick up some drumsticks and talk Music and Drums with them.. Highly recommend Altos for anything music / instrument related.
Screw the internet franchises. These guys are the best there is. We miss John in guitars a lot but Taylor is no slouch. The guy in the custom room is so off putting don’t bother going in. That’s the opinion of 6 of my friends as well. Total jerk. Go someplace else for custom guitars.
Dan and donny from the drum department are so helpful. Bring in your kids and have them test cymbals out.. i expressed some interest in a dw drum kit that was on an overhead display, and they were nice enough to pull it down and let my 7yr old test it out. Great guys.
8/3/17: Upgraded from 1 to 2 stars due to refund issued.DO NOT BUY FROM THEM! WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER!!! I paid for an item on 7/14. USPS website shows no record of receiving the item. They claimed that happens all that time, but my real issue is that their story keeps changing. One person told me it got shipped on 7/15. Another person told me it got shipped on 7/17. Meanwhile the Post Office has no record of it at all. After a few days of getting the runaround, I finally got a manager Steve who tried to helpful by offering to ship me a replacement overnight to make up for the bad experience. I even got an email with a UPS overnight tracking number. HOWEVER, I had a nagging suspicion that this might not be on the up and up, given the lies (inconsistency at best) and poor service up to this point, so I pulled up the tracking number on UPS website. GO FIGURE! They canceled it right after they created it!!!I called and the VP of Shipping and Logistics Keith, got on the line after keeping me on hold for over 15 minutes. Before he could launch into his list of excuses, etc. I asked upfront, Are you the manager that canceled my UPS label. He said it was not him. Later in the call, he finally admitted that IT WAS INDEED him that canceled it. Hes hoping it just shows up, I guess, but to cancel it and not say anything???Cmon, Keith (if thats even your real name). Youre better than that! I know because nobody can be this bad at their job and rise to the level of Vice FING President of MFING Shipping and GD MFING Logistics. Can they???
Terrible experience drove an hour. They didn’t have any of the Midi controllers announced on their website. Drove back empty handed. The help was terrible in every department like they avoided hearing anyone complaining. And also they looked like they where on drugs real slow.
VERY DISAPPOINTED!!! I ORDERED AN EPIPHONE LES PAUL CUSTOM 2020 MODEL.. LIKE THE ONES AT THE NAMM SHOW... WHEN I ORDERED I ASKED TO MAKE SURE IT WAS A 2020 MODEL.. R TAYLOR ASSURED ME IT WAS BUT HAD TO WAIT TILL MARCH.. I HESITATED... BUT AGREED.. RECEIVED A CALL IT WAS IN EARLY TO MY SUPRISE.... I PICKED UP AT THE STORE IN MIDDLETOWN... I ASKED AGAIN IF IT WAS A 2020 ..R TAYLOR SAID YES..WHEN I CAME HOME AND OPENED IT .. IT WAS 2019 LEFT OVER... I WILL NEVER DO BIZ WITH THEM AGAIN.. I KNOW THE DIFFERENCE.. WOW!!

2022-06-29Staff was very nice and their guitar specialist, Garth, was very helpful in my decisions regarding my two recent purchases. I spent a pretty good amount of money, and time, but he went out of his way to show me several guitars straight outta the box, just to help me find the ones I was really looking for. He even stayed with me after the store had closed and really took his time and patience in making sure I found the exact guitars that spoke to me. Any musician, whether a hobbyist or professional, knows that the right guitar finds you. And sometimes that means taking ones time to find the instrument that truly and metaphorically speaks to you. I had to go back for an adjustment of the neck shortly after purchase of one of the guitars I purchased, and he fixed it right then and there, immediately. He knew exactly what needed to be done and he did it free of charge. I left there happy and very satisfied. I will certainly be back for another purchase. Hope this helps. Finally, a shout out to Garth. He is a true professional who knows what he is doing.

2022-05-26Not even kidding but Alto Musics customer service has legitly been the BEST by far that I have ever dealt with. My local Guitar Center sent me a excellent condition 5150 Iconic Combo amp... which ended up literally coming in broken upon arrival... I called Alto Music they give me a great discount and Natalie Torres at customer service was INSANELY helpful throughout and so understanding. Cannot say enough about how great this place is. Im definitely calling them up first for my next purchase. If you want excellent service with people who actually care.. and want to work with you and your situation, talk to them immediately!! So happy with the perfect condition amp I ended up purchasing. 10/10

2022-02-03I stopped by to look for a new guitar (or used) with active pickups. Mike was a big help, showed what they had or could get in my budget. But, I saw my new baby. However the price was out of what I wanted to spend. Well he made the deal happen by putting together a good price and a hard case, which I really wanted if I was going to by a fairly expensive guitar. I absolutely love my new axe! I believe its going to make a big improvement in my playing (which I am brand new at). It is far easier to play than my started guitar I had bought. You get what you pay for. Thanks Mike!

2022-05-28Alto just isnt a great in-person store anymore. Everyone is just as nice and helpful as ever, but if youre looking to buy new gear, youre better off browsing their online store. You can still try things out in store if you specifically request something, but they have to break open the box, and the fun factor is sadly missing. The store is mostly just filled with stacks of boxes.

2022-03-03Ve never had such exceptional customer service! The speed, compassion, subject matter expertise and diligence I was served with has won a customer for life. And they did this out of a negative experience! I initially bought a Gibson Gold Top that showed in stock, then they reached out and kept me up to date on its status, which ultimately led to us cancelling the order. Despite that experience, based on how they handled it, I realized Alto was a brand I could trust and Im very grateful! Ive recently ordered a beautiful Gibson Custom through them. Shout out to Natalie for being so excellent at what you do!

2022-01-17Made an appointment with Matt to try out some basses. The service was great and Matt prepared ahead of time.Just keep in mind that most of their stock is in boxes in the back: if you make an appointment online letting them know what you want to see, they can set things up for your appointment.10/10 would buy from Matt again!

2022-04-08Alto’s rules! I’ve been shopping with these dudes since the late 90s and they’ve always come through with a combo of excellent products, pricing, and customer service. I’ve purchased several higher end items from them over the past several years and they offered the best pricing and free shipping. Call them for best pricing! Rik Mercaldi is the man! He’ll take care of your GAS and any other guitar needs! I don’t even bother with the bigger online catalog stores anymore. Thanks, Rik and the rest of the Alto’s crew.

2022-04-04I find Alto Music to be a very difficult place to deal with. Although I have made several purchases from them I have never felt very welcomed or treated very kindly. On many occasions I have tried to consult them with advice on equipment, negotiations with sales, etc., only to be met with the constant we dont care attitude.Do yourself a favor, and shop somewhere a little more professional.
