I read the reviews on yelp about this Theater being completely horrible. Sadly I didn’t believe the warning I paid a month ago for two tickets to take my children to see Jurassic Park my movie started at 11:30 am My children and I were standing outside from 11:18 to 11:28in the hot sun.The employees were standing around and waited until 11:28 (2mins before my movie was to start) to open the theater which I feel is completely unacceptable how can you sell tickets for an 1130 show and not let people in until two minutes before the show then when I get inside I went to print out my tickets that I purchased a month ago online. I read on the side of my ticket where it stated that they had been sold out and I needed to go to the front for further instruction? They only have one employee working there in the box office in morning so I was standing there for another 10 minutes after the showtime because they let us in the theater late. only to receive confirmation that they sold my tickets I had purchased a month ago to priority seating and then I would have to come back for another time or day!!! when I ask for a refund I was told that they can only give it to me on a gift card because I didn’t have the credit card that it was purchased on which I feel is ridiculous because I purchased it online so why would I need to bring my card when I purchased online this doesn’t make sense I never purchased at the theater. When I asked for the number to corporate the employee sitting at the front stated that he would give it to me but then when he gave me my refund back as a gift card because he couldn’t give it back to my card he did not give me the number to corporate and I had to Google it this theater is horrible if you’re going there with your children do not do it my children are extremely upset I got them dressed to take them to a movie that we ended up not seeing and had to stand outside for 10 minutes for nothing and then on a another line for 10 more mins to be told to go home . I will never return back to the theater. In my opinion they need to close it down it has so many bad reviews and going there for the first time myself I can see why.
Shame on Magic Johnson!! Horrible filthy movie theater!! Chairs are from 1994, No foot room! Expensive at that. It needs to be remodeled. All that money you have an forgot about one of your businesses. Whats going on with the interior and exterior of this facility? This is my first and last time smh.. people be aware!! Dont go here theres other AMC downtown thats cleaner and in an much better environment.
I am able to take my grandchildren there with a feeling of security. We enjoy practicing our recognition of famous African-Americans and those pictured from the African Diaspora in the gallery wall. There is ample seating for theater and bathrooms. Thank you Mr. Johnson!
When I went on March 9th to see Batman. The workers behind the concession stand were talking amongst themselves well the line grew longer. One worker came from the back and saw her friend standing in line and called the family over before taking people already waiting ahead of them. I just walked out of line. This is unacceptable. I will keep going to kips bay theater. Better service all around there. Magic this is not how you want to be represented.
I saw Dolby sound top gun great recliner seats jo soap in the ladies bathroom in any movie theatre you should smell fresh popcorn popping....snacks are at a ridiculous price bring ur own the have a special for $38 popcorn chocolate candy sweet sour candy a drink......insane
This movie theater is alright, not the best since there was another person in my assigned seat for the theaters. The seats arent really comfortable and where they sell the snacks the cashiers are pretty rude and may i say, ghetto. I didnt like their attitudes and its very sticky and dirty there. Near the drink stations, its super sticky as well and most drinks they were out of. The movie made up for the place but thats all I have to say.
I love that the theater is very Harlem oriented (there’s murals inside with inspirational figures). This theater feels like a theater stuck in time. It has no recliner chairs and the chairs are pretty much on the smaller side. I definitely recommend it though. They keep the theater clean and organized. One downside is that they always seem to be short staffed.
At the times we went, the particular movie area we were in was always clean, now the ladies room has gotten better, just some women are plain nasty, not flushing the toilet. Just in case, always have tissue in your bag, you never know if your stall ran out. They have tons of stalls, but also lots of females waiting for a stall also. Sink area clean, floor slippery , sign was up as a caution, it never smelled bad at anytime we was there.
I wasnt impressed at all, bc they had people sitting next to each other all close. ITS COVID!!!! YOU SUPPOSE TO SIT PEOPLE SPACED OUT FROM OTHER PEOPLE OR GROUPS!!!!!!!! THEN TO TOP IT OFF!!!! WE WHERE CLOSED INSIDE THE MOVIES THEATRE . OTHER THAN THAT THE MOVIE WAS GOOD. TERRIBLE 😔
GROSS! Stay out!!! You’ve been warned. Pay extra for clean seats and go somewhere else. Or bring a large rain poncho that you can drape over the seat. They need to get their act together. No one likes a filthy seat. Scrub and power wash that theater and then I’ll give them my money. Magic Johnson would be ashamed his name is attached to this travesty. Their popcorn gave me diarrhea. It’s unsanitary and poorly kept. 0 stars.
I love AMC Theaters. This AMC has a colorful vibrant decor that represent the neighborhood. The workers are pleasant and helpful, the prices are regular except for Tuesdays when its $5 all day, boy did I miss that one. The one bad thing about this location is that it smells horrible. The bathroom is clean but it smells, The hallway smells, the seats are really dirty and soiled which makes the theater room smells. I had a napkin over my nose & mouth for the entire time. This was very uncomfortable for me.
I can’t say enough great things about this place...The staff in here always greet me with a smile, they look very happy and seem to genuinely care about what your needs are .... the best part is that they always have specials so you can find great deals no matter what time of the year it is ...great family environment and great place to check out your favorite film
My family and I experience was horrible !!!!!! The person who was working the 7pm show on February 5 was a rude and disrespectful person to a child also. An it wasnt just the worker on the door but the manager too. Who wouldnt give their name so we could make a complaint ,ask we ask for there names multiple times. They continue to be rude and disrespectful!!!!!
Its my local movie theater and its a good one. They could manage it a bit better but overall I appreciate its existence. I gave it 4 stars because theres definitely room for improvement. Many times the ticket scanner doesnt work which causes confusion. The area with the soda machines and the butter machines are usually wet and sticky. Not a pleasant experience especially in sandals or flip flops. Those items are actually minor so I wont take more stars off.Update: Its so much better than before. Cleaner and more organized. They got new scanners as well.
Was going to a movie that got canceled and rescheduled for a different time. We didnt get any kind of notification so, when we asked the Help Desk about it, the staff was very apologetic and friendly. They were able to get us into another showing closer to our original time. It was also an upgrade with better seats, sound, and quality - for free! It was a great experience and everyone who worked at the theater was very helpful and friendly and the theater was clean.
Awesome service! This movie house was truly the best place I know. The staff was very accommodating, honest, and kind. Besides, the seats were comfortable, and the screen was too large and extremely loud. Honestly, I was entertained watching movies in your place. Thank you! I will bring my family and friends here. See you!
I’ve been coming to Magic Johnson Theater for years, and while I love their new Dolby Theater experience, I have to say that the pandemic has set them back a bit on the concessions side. Before the pandemic, this theater used to offer the best concessions like burger and chicken sliders with curly fries, pizza, and more besides just your traditional popcorn, nachos and hot dogs. Unfortunately though, it looks like the pandemic has caused quite a setback in this area because when I went to see Ghostbusters: Afterlife, I noticed that they’d taken all the sliders, French fries, chicken fingers, etc. off the menu and now only offer macaroni and cheese bites and pizza in addition to the regular movie fare. In addition, they’re severely understaffed right now, so I missed the opening credits of the movie while waiting for my order to be ready. At this point, I might consider going back to the AMC on the upper West Side since they at least have reclining chairs in all their theaters unlike Magic Johnson. While I’m hopeful this theater is going to eventually turn itself around, it’s currently struggling to keep up with the other theaters nearby that simply offer a better overall experience. Magic Johnson may have my heart, but unless things change, other theaters may get my money instead. On a positive note, I did find that Magic Johnson was extremely clean in all the areas when I went, so that’s a definite step in the right direction!
I have never in my entire life been inside such a dirty movie theater. The carpet has paper and popcorn all over the place, the womens bathroom has several stalls full of filth, the floors have paper towels all over, some of the sinks are filled with water. I am not even gonna talk about the popcorn. My goodness, what is happening here!? I am so disappointed in this. Will never step foot here EVER again.
If I could give it a 0 I would. First of all the food is disgusting.. the customer service has dehumanizing I rather play with roaches than to go here again. I have gone here for 3 times already but the latest incident ruined it. I sent my teenage kid to watch eternals and they told him, he needed a parent. A 16 year old needs a parent to watch a marvel movie???? When have you seen that ? Never please don’t go here it’s a bone fire waiting to happen..
I went to see the Aretha Franklin movie Respect. What a great movie! Jennifer Hudson was terrific! The theatre was nice. The seats are comfortable. I came early and was able to get the Tuesday discount. I only paid $6.50! I was so happy because every penny count. The crowd was an older crowd. No one was acting rowdy. Everyone was respectful, courteous and enjoyed the movie. I will definitely go back to this theatre.
It was my first time here and I was amazed its really big it was very clean we had great seats we were able to choose our own seats the audio was good we went to see Jumanji and the food was good too especially since my granddaughter had the reward points and we paid like a dollar for curly fries
Great theater very spacious seats were very comfortable prices were ehhh decent wish they wouldve had cheaper deals for snacks but was still cheaper than other places. We saw a 3:30 movie adult tickets were under $10 kids were under $7 that was great. Will definitely be returning
Typical for a movie theater. Not much staff but then again not many customers either. So not very crowded. Saw Black Widow and was pleasantly surprised it was an ok movie. But definitely not worth these insane typical prices. Think Ill stick to Kodi unless its a big blockbuster like the Avengers or something
Went to see the avengers end game the movie was great but u had kids making noise teenagers having loud conversations and vaping weed! And people sitting in other peoples seats! And people phone screens bright and people using they camera lights all over the place other then all the distractions after wanting to leave after a while I got threw the whole movie! Which was a good movie!
Something my Son (Philip) and I used to do before the Pandemic so it was great for us to get back to it. Everything was great considering but I do think they need to take some Pointers from 161 Yankee Plaza and upgrade the seating along with spacing it out. Would help with comfortably and 6ft spacing for customers beings were not out of the water yet. All in all still enjoyed myself (Thanks AMC).
Magic Johnson, it would be nice if you would foot the bill to renovate your/our Magic Johnson Theater in Harlem and bring it up to Safety and Health modification standards. Time, wear & tear by the normal public use have caused: Filthy Seats need to be replaced, old dirty carpeting needs to be replaced or super cleaned, the walls need to be painted fresh, the glass outer structure wall needs to be professionally cleaned on both sides, the elevators are dirty, the escalators dont all function, the bathrooms need updating of broken faucets and hand blowers and soap dispensers and toilet flushers, the food counters need updating, etc. Overall, the entire theater needs a make over big time especially now during a Pandemic! Magic Johnson show Harlem you didnt forget about us, and Please make Harlems theaters name shine again, because right now, The Magic Johnson Theater In Harlem is looking really Unsanitary very sadly.😭☹👎🏽🤞💙🏀
This movie theatre is very clean and very to the book they only let u in 30 mins before the movie that doesnt give u time to play games if (like end game) u need to find your assigned seat early but they stay to very strict rules only down side refreshment stand is very slow if no matter your amc status but slow the workers are very nice
I love this AMC but gave it 3 stars because as a premier member my 3 kids and I should not have to wait on the Premire line and miss 1hours of our movie waiting for popcorn while non Premire members clearly occupied the Premire line with no Managment to control the situation.
Today I just went to see free guy at this movie theatre and the movie is amazing. The movie had a amazing plot and great animation. I was very impressed by this movie. The movie theater is very clean and the staff are very patient and nice. The seats were also clean and very comfortable.
Its fine, I guess, but just never feels as much of an occasion as a lot of other AMCs. The food isnt as fresh, the seats arent as comfy, the sound is too loud, etc. Nothing to entirely spoil the movie but enough it still feels a little off.If it wasnt within walking distance of my apt Id definitely prefer the nicer AMCs downtown.
Clean, air conditioned, well kept, seating for an amazing show by QUESTLOVE. MUST SEE: Summer of Soul a phenomenal view of some of the Americas most vintage musical performances that I was glad that was saved. Mahalia Jackson and Mavis Staples on the same stage,l Syevie Wonder on drums. Woodstock had nothing on Summer of Soul. Americas core of spirituality and funk and musics best was displayed and the whole world missed it until now. ***** 5 stars plus Im sure theres more footage that I am waiting to see
So excited to get back to the theater! But I was disappointed, sooo looking forward to movie popcorn 🍿..but it was cold, they give you butter on the side..not warm either and not a trace of salt. Saw Godzilla vs Kong with the family(Awesome movie)..After a year of no theater, they could have at least had warm tasty popcorn. Other than that it was good..clean, contactless payments, not too many people at the showing
I continue to be impressed by this movie theater 🎭. Theyve recently installed a Dolby Vision screening theater within this movie theater and I was really impressed by the new technology, the sound and the reclining seats.Ive gone to other theaters in the suburbs and downtown but I keep coming back to AMC Magic because theyve kept up with the pace and its in my hometown Harlem.
This theater does not give you that new movie excitement feel. It’s very small the staff are very rude just talking amongst themselves, make you late for the movie and sometimes are not even at the counter. I took my daughter there she loved the movie but again she would of loved watching the same movie on our smart TV with homemade popcorn. So if I were to influence you to come here I would be wrong. Please save your money don’t waste it at least not in this theater. Also, the theater was not clean, the seats smelled so bad I really could not put my back on the whole seat I felt like something was going to crawl on me I was so relieved when the movie ended.
Nice theater but its located in a busy area so its always extremely crowded and you always see, hear and smell people eating food brought in from outside. You can tell due to the very distinctive smell. Staff doesnt seem to care so next time Im bringing KFC too.Seats are comfortable though but theaters are not often clean depending on the time you visit.
I enjoy this movie theater it’s 👍🏽NOT BAD; bathrooms clean theaters clean however the seats aren’t all that comfy, I do recommend to bring a small Lysol spray cause (at times) it gets a bit musky in their. Staffs COOL! For Tuesday Showing it’s a MUST to bring spay -extra packed but the crowd is usually really cool😎🤙🏽☺️
If I could give this theater zero stars I would!!! This place is by far the worst movie theater I have ever been to. The staff is horrible, upon arrival the ticket booth clerk was very rude to the customers waiting for her assistance. I waited over 20 mins for for them to fulfill my order, to then be told by one of their staff that they gave my food to another customer, that gentleman then asked if I still wanted the food , of course I want it I already paid, that same gentleman then proceed to walk over to another female staff member to socialize instead of filling my order. In addition to the frustration I experienced placing my order, the food was disgusting and poorly prepared and stored. I wouldn’t be surprised if I woke up tomorrow morning with food poisoning. Last but not least, auditorium/ theater 1 smelled of urine. You would not believe the headache I have!!!! Please everyone who’s comes across this post ,,, please don’t waste your money on this place, such a waste.
Well, Im happy that the theater is still there. What has happened though, with management? Understaffed is an understatement. The place was unkempt, to be nice ... because I felt badly for the few people that were working, they were so awesome. Something has to be done. Ive never seen a theater so in need of custodial attention.
So, the chairs dont all recline as I expect of an AMC movie theater, and there was one person working the concession area. We were in that elite line because we spent the $$ to join the special AMC club, and that line did.not.move. Yup. We waited longer by being on the special line. So watch for that.It was really dirty too. This location offers full-on takeout food like mac and cheese which is just $6, but they have a 15$ Bavarian Legend pretzel. Why??? We ordered pretzel bites for 7$ -and after our half hour wait, we wouldve thought they would at least be hot. Nope. And did I mention how dirty it is???The sound quality and the screen are really good, but I am not thrilled with the service/cleanliness.
I do not recommend this theater to anyone. This theater needs a change of management, renovation, and enough staff members to serve their customers. The cleanness of the theater is disgusting, I mean the seats smell like urine and the floors are all sticky. Coming here was really a last option for me and I regret every moment. The staff members demeanor shows you just how professional the theater presents itself. They literally act as if they have something better to do than their JOBS. I cant say Ill be back here soon or recommend anyone to come.
Little was a really good movie. Great for families and adults alike. Bathrooms were relatively clean. The seats are new but do not recline like other AMC theaters. Overall okay theater. I typically go there when supporting black films. Just feels different. Will go back again.
Really Comfortable theatre! The seats are spacious. The recliner works!!🤗 This was my first visit here and I went because a friend of mine. Told me that they have a $5 no tax Tuesdays. All I had to do was create an account. Which was painless lol. I almost forgot the screen is a perfect size and that sound system is amazing!!! Im definitely going again and again. Pretty soon people will start calling me 125 😂
Good for it being empty sometimes and quick with the food service, but I wish the chairs reclined. Also on Sunday’s from my own experience and from a local the little kids lock all the handicap bathrooms. Not cool, I have a disable mint her and we had to wait for the only one that was open when there was three more because kids locked them.
As soon as you walk in you smell the carpet. Carpet smells like an old day care center. In any theater during any crowded showing you have to fight for the right seats; people tend to take seats. Its a Black theater so be ready for some talk back to the screen for the right movie. Dolby theater is phenomenal. Snack bar takes awhile and soda is not served once.Still glad to be back at the theaters!
Used to come here all time years ago. Definitely not the same place I remember. The popcorn didnt taste fresh. We had to switch our seats since the ones we originally chose still had spilled food and left over drinks everywhere. It was disgusting. The people in the theater talked throughout the entire movie and had their phones on full brightness.
The new reclining seats theater is great, but all the money was put into that room and not into fixing the oven or the drink machines. So its nice to have a great viewing experience, but I would like the full menu to actually be available :)I had the popcorn, curly fries and water. They fries and popcorn were delicious
Better experience than expected. I liked the ticket counter right at the door upstairs. Decreases loitering and folks just hanging out. There were new leather-like seats and the floor wasnt sticky. I was rather comfortable in my seat. Also, the theater #9 didnt smell moldy. Overall good experience.
On Saturday April 21, 2019 I was at this theater with my family to see Little. I have no complaints about the movie I recommend it 100% .. The theater experience however was ATROCIOUS!!! I was in theater 7 and it was completely filthy! throw up on the floor, popcorn from a previous movie and the floors were severely sticky. The theater was Overcrowded and no one was sitting in the seats assigned prior to entering the theater. The concessions line was ridiculous and there too was a huge mess of popcorn and slushie cup lids, there was only one cashier who was moving very slow and one party had about 13 people in it. I had to wait in line 10-15 minutes just for a drink resulting in me missing parts of my movie. I also wasn’t expecting there to be so many toddlers in the movie as the movie was rated pg-13. I WILL NO BE RETURNING TO AMC MAGIC JOHNSON AGAIN as this was my worst movie theater experience.
Great neighborhood movie theater. Pretty clean. I havent caught bedbugs yet here. When watching movies theres no one smoking weed like Im some other ghetto theaters. Be careful when you buy tickets in advance in the atom app or whatever, people tend to sit wherever and you might have to kick them out of your seat.
Nice clean theatre with all the latest movies always available. We went on a Saturday evening and it wasnt really crowded. Food is regular high priced movie food and fresh. Concession lines can be long at times but that is expected. Make sure you join AMC club for some good deals every now and then. If you look around you can find parking up the block sometimes.
Theater is pretty good, staff that greats you upstairs to take your ticket is always friendly, but their kitchen never seems to be working correctly or able to fill orders in a timely way. Weve used their order ahead feature several times and each instance weve had a problem even though wed order almost 30 minutes before our movie.
My first time going to this theater and it was great! So comfy and clean that i fell asleep during the movie. The seats are so comfortable and they recline. Too comfortable , like i said i fell asleep 10 minutes after sitting down. I dont know if it was because the movie was boring but who doesnt like Charlie Brown? or if the seats were just too comfortable i felt like i was at home. I will definitely recommend this theater, i will be returning during the Thanksgiving Holiday to check out another flick. Hopefully , wont fall asleep this time.
This place needs new flooring and chairs; it smells awful. Also, Magic johnson sold it YEARS ago. This is an AMC theater and they need to do better!UPDATE: 5/29/19 The theater has new flooring and it smells much better. Chair upgrades and better concession service will raise the rating again. Now 3 stars instead of 2.
This theater is highly problematic. Beginning with ticketing system and ending with the consession stand. We had to wait over 10 minutes to have our ticket scanned to enter. When we went to pick up our express concessions they were not ready. People were pawing through the bags and putting their hands inside. The bathroom was dirty and no lock on the door of the stall I entered. The floors are sticky, so much so my shoe got stuck to it several times. The soda machines were empty and needed refill cartridges. There was absolutely Noone at the customer service desk.To top it off there was a couple who snuck in food and lot up the whole row with their phone just to look at the food. They talked through the whole movie and it looked like they were fooling around as well.I had to tell them to shut up several times.Do yourself a favor and skip this location.
This theater is in a great location. Its many windows offer a great view for people watching on the busy 125th street. Food choices are great. Reclinging Seating has been upgraded in some theaters but not all. The lines move quickly some days but most days the food time waiting is long. Overall great theater.
This place needs 2 close and remodel, clean, and train the staff with better customer service . Also clean the soda machine area. The mats are so sticky it holds on to your shoe. Condiment area butter all over. no napkins.. SMH!!! But also People need to try and keep the area clean as well we live here and would want our theater to remain OPEN...
I am sorry, this theatre needs a serious upgrade!!!! From the smell of inside the theatre to the seats, to the people managing the lighting and previews and showing of the movie. Lets not forget the stale tasting popcorn. This place needs a huge upgrade. They ruined my whole movie experience. As for something they cant change the customers and how filthy they leave their surroundings maybe this is why the theatre is ran the way it is.
As much as I love this theater, my visit this time was horrible. An excessively drunk man was threatening other patrons as well as me and my family. We stayed as long as we could but it became unsafe and we left before the movie ended. That is the only reason I gave a one star rating. Other than that, I normally have a great time. Sorry Magic!!!!😏
Nice neighborhood movie theater that generally have the latest movies I desire to see. They offer great refreshments, but they are kind of pricey. They upgraded one of the theaters in the back, putting in Dolby surround sound, plush seats that allow you to really lean back and prop your feet up. The rest of the theaters need cosmetic renovations. Used to be nice theater but after 15 yrs of wear and stare, its time to upgrade
My experience at the AMC Magic Johnson theater was a disaster. After getting my tickets from the electronic system I proceeded to the snack line which was extremely long with only 2 registers open, but I tried to make the best of it by talking with my friends about the movie and deciding what I would eat. As we waited on the line I was horrified to see a staff coming from a room with a large clear storage bin full of popcorn to dump in the popcorn display and serve to customers. I witnessed this happen 2 times during my wait to be served. This turned my stomach and I immediately knew I would not be ordering the popcorn so I purchased nachos with cheese only to eat it and discover that my cheese was cold. Upon getting my order I walked to the soda machines to get my drink when I saw juice, soda, slushie, and ice all over the machines and floor, it was a disaster. The soda was flat, the nacho cheese was cold, the trash cans were overflowing and the theater was a mess. There was popcorn all over the floor and counters and from my arrival to my exit I saw no one cleaning anything. I have never been so disappointed. This theater is in such a great location near lots of restaurants, transportation and stores; however I would not recommend this theater after my bad experiences.
Concession staff for food and drinks seemed a bit out of it and the venue was not well cleaned when I was there. The floor has a very distinct odor in the hallways leading up to the actual theaters. Although the building it was located in was nice, it still felt empty. All other staff was friendly though. There are better theaters in the city.
Great matinee price. Service was good. Bathrooms are clean. Otherwise, there is a musty odor where the individual theaters are. The carpets and seats need a thorough cleaning. The location is convenient to get to. I would like to continue to come to here as I like to support businesses within my community. I would like to see improvement in the overall cleanliness of it.
Hey, Honestly, this theater needs to be renovated. Badly! My seat was broken! I almost fell into the row behind me. Thankfully, this isnt my home location. The staff is good. No issues with them at all. 3 stars because my movie was good. Thats it. I had to sit with a seat between my kids and I. Very frustrating.
I really wish Id read the reviews for this theatre prior to going. Went there to see a A Quiet Place on a Tuesday night. The theatre itself is fine - its big and honestly it looked pretty clean when I was there (didnt use the bathrooms tho). Theres a little arcade area too in the place where you buy your tickets. The big issue came once the movie started. People KEPT TALKING. Normally I dont care if people talk during movies, but the movie I was watching was so quiet and meant to be super suspenseful. But some audience members kept commenting and talking to each other during the first 30 min. It was so frustrating. Other people would try to shush them but the talking audience members would either ignore them or get indignant. Really soured the experience for me. If you dont like people talking Id suggest going on a day/time with less traffic.
I have to say even though Im giving this place 3 stars, I still go here often. Its within waking distance and convenient. The movies are great. Unfortunately the place is never clean and the bathrooms are lacking in maintenance. Try to see movies in theater 5. Thats the only one with reclining seats and surround sound!
Expect to arrive to a missing seat. Bought tickets on the AMC app to Widows. When I arrived to the packed theater the seat I bought in the back row #12 was taped up with yellow caution tape when I arrived. Too bad it was so dark I would show you the pic. Regular theater, nothing special. Good for catching a movie in your neighborhood.
My favorite theater. Its best if you get your tickets online first but the lines are not that long really. Ive been going here for a long time and I havent found anything to complain about. You can grab a bite to eat nearby. I love the wall of historic actors as you walk in.
Very unprofessional staff, Answering a simple question and Getting someone to help me was a Task for the staff. The slushy machines were not working but they still charged us for them. Then when we asked for assistance or someone to check the machines out, we were dismissed with a sucking of the teeth and by turning to the next customer as if we were not even there. The place also looked like a tornado hit it.This staff needs to have a serious training session. For the price of movie going we should have some better customer service.P.s. Hey Magic!!!!Upgrade them seats...Most AMC Theatres already have reclining seats.
This is my go-to movie theater because of the location. While it is being slowly renovated (new carpet, Dolby theater w/reclining seats) - its still never clean. The self service areas (drinks, butter, napkins) are consistently dirty or not working. The bathrooms are always dirty. (Stalls broken, actual trash and toilet paper everywhere, sinks covered in paper towels and who-knows-what.)The staff / service is up in the air. Sometimes its great, other times youre just a bother. If you have issues with disruptions during a movie - forget it. Ive never seen rowdy people removed even when they were an annoyance through the entire movie. But, hey, at least it doesnt have bed bugs (not sure on mice) like the Times Square AMC!
It was horrible. The staff was still cleaning the theater 10 minutes before the next showing. The entire theater floor was littered with trash and popcorn. The one aisle my friend and I wanted to sit in was slick and sticky. My friend is disabled. If I hadnt made in aware of the condition of the aisle, her might have fallen and incurred an injury. The restroom was even worse. The floor was sticky or wet in places; the area too wash your hands was unattended; some of the hand soap dispensers and paper towel dispensers were empty. Our community shouldnt have to settle for sub- standard conditions. Especially when youre paying almost $20.00 for a movie ticket. Im appalled!!!
Always liked coming here. I live way downtown but will happily support the MJ theater when I am uptown. The staff is great with the exception of the ticket lady. She talks way too much and a line forms quickly. I had to use the ticket dispensing machine to be sure I got to my seat in time. Also, time needs to be taken to clean the theater floors, since they are sticky. Particular attention needs to be given when PG movies are shown since the little people can make a mess. Thank you Magic Johnson for investing in Harlem!
This is our neighborhood theatre, its clean, good customer service, many food choices and reasonable prices. Food I think is a little expensive but still worth it (they give a good amount). Video games were not working last time we went but it worked out for me, 4 kids can run the bill pretty high without games. They also have $5 any movie all day Tuesdays...not sure if you need to be a member. You should visit their site to confirm if the promo is still avail before you visit.
Nice theater but if it was not kept clean i felt my skin sticking to the arm rest and now i remember how the inside of my gym sneakers smell in a theater looks like the rugs have not been cleaned for years it needs upkeep. The people behind the counter need a course in customer care, only one guy stood out older guy of course he served 3 people and smiled while every young person served one with a sad and upset look on them lol. not the beat experience
Not as fancy as the one in times square but, it is worth it. Especially good for those who want to get tickets for cheap. They sell tickets for cheap for the early morning shows. However, the seating system at that place is a little bit uncomfortable and no one follows the reserved seating system rule inside. If you reserve a seat, dont expect to find it not filled if you dont get there early. Moreover, outside food is not allowed except they dont check your bag.Overall, it is a good place to have fun for cheap once in a while.
I liked this movie theater very very much. I went during the early hours, and it was my first time. I like the location firstly, because it seems like everything is so close. The theaters are big and the staff is friendly. I did like all of the decorations that were in there. Seeing the old movies posted all around made me excited to watch my movie. It was really big and did take me long to get to my theater. Nothing major tho.
The photos of famous African American artists that decorate the wall on the upper level are great. Most movie theaters in Manhattan seem to have a difficult time keeping the beverage machines clean, this theater included. Come extra early, if you want snacks or food with your movie. The line is always hideous, and the wait for hot snacks and food can take up to 15 minutes. Also, they need more employees to keep the teenagers from sneaking into additional movie theaters, trying to get a free movie in or impress their peers. Its very distracting. One plus was that the customer service attendant gave us new tickets when an employee told us to go to the wrong theater, which caused us to miss the beginning of the movie we were supposed to see. Luckily another theater was showing it in less than an hour.
This theater is convenient if you live uptown. I have been here numerous times over the years and havent had a bad experience. On my last visit there was only one agent at the ticket counter. My wait wasnt too long. The bathrooms were pretty clean. Even though I got to the theater just on time for the movie there were lots of seat options for the movie that I went to see which was great for me. I would definitely return to this theater. I did not run into any issues.
The crew member working the concession stand was super friendly and hilarious. We had a good laugh, it was a great way to start off our movie date. He also signed us up for the AMC membership, told us about the benefits, and also gave us a tip about a trailer that will play after the credits. I wish we caught his name, but he provided one of the best customer service experiences Ive had in a movie theatre to date.
This theater has come a long way from what it used to be. However, it still needs a bit of work. There should be more people working the snack counters to avoid creating long lines. There should be a line for people who has already paid for their seats and those who has purchased them at the theater. Also, Ive stopped purchasing seats in the standard theaters because people will literally sit anywhere even when their seat is labeled on their ticket. This has happened way too many times and even Ive gotten into an altercation with a woman for refusing to get up. Security should be posted in packed theaters to ensure that this isnt happening.
Visited this theater last night. Was a half hour late to my movie. The young gentleman who took my ticket was soft spoken and friendly and wished me a good time. I really appreciated the gesture. Upon arriving late, I wanted to eat a snack so I stood in line next to be serviced and there were literally 7 workers at the counter talking amongst themselves. They clearly saw me but greeting me was very low priority. Employees were coming and going and it seems they had a lots of work issues internally...problems to be sorted out that evening. A worker came out with a very large carpet that had been removed. The manager was on the walkie talkie trying to sort out the issues organizing problems and trying to keep her staff coming along. But it left service to customers neglected. No fault to them. They seemed overwhelmed. I had to wait for my popcorn to done. While I was waiting to the side she did check up on me as did another worker. I could tell they were trying their best but were struggling. I believe they need more support and organization from upper managent which makes for a better work environment and would prevent the issues that occurred last night. Movie theater was nice and bathroom facilities clean. Would come again. Wish the best for the workers
*Update 12/2015:I still go to this theater out of convenience however I go much more frequently. The staff are here and there in terms of customer service. The theaters could use some updates in terms of cleanliness but the bathrooms are kept very clean. The film options tend to be good and the cost is lower than theaters downtown which is a bonus.Original Review (2013):Mostly I go here on occasion because it is in walking distance from my house, otherwise I would not go here. It is clean, the staff is friendly, and there is a large selection of food. The crowd however can be a bit loud,so if you are looking for a quieter movie experience, try a theater downtown.
I was disappointed this time around. They opened the theater 15 minutes before the show began. There were 2 bus loads of children and additional patrons outside waiting for it to open when we got there. There was only 1 cashier and there were numerous premiere members in a separate line, so us regular customers still had to wait while they were taken care of. We were unable to get popcorn and drink because we didnt want to miss the movie. We had all ready missed the trailers before the movie began. I never had an issue with this theater prior to this visit but then again I never go that early. My son and I enjoyed the movie non the less.
Movie snacks are over priced buy if you sign up for amc membership with no fee or anything you get to pay 6.50 for each ticket on Tuesdays and free popcorn on ya birthday, but great movie theater over all tho I just wish they had more movies to watch but because of the pandemic movies options are low
I grew up coming here enjoyed it. Now, after my most recent visit, I gotta say that its definitely changed. The one theater we were in had filthy chairs, each row was messy, and the cleanup crew seemed nonexistent. This place is definitely in need of better care for a more pleasant experience
It’s so many things wrong with this movie theater and I’m just in awe. First of all why is the garbage over flowing outside the theater as soon as you get off the escalator? Second of all the bathroom is so discussing, toilet tissue all over the bathroom floors in every bathroom stall with no toilet tissue, hand soap or toilet seat covers! Third of all why is there napkins sticking to the floors all over when you’re ordering your food with that dirty a** carpet that haven’t been cleaned god knows when and the biggest problem is HOW YOU DON’T HAVE COURTESY WATER/SELTZER WATER?! I have never heard of an establishment especially a movie theater not having Courtesy cups for water and I’ve been to some upscale movie theaters! Last but I’m sure won’t be the least is WHY THE HELL IS THE AIR-CONDITIONER BOOMING HIGH WHEN IT’S 50 DEGREES OUTSIDE?! Magic Johnson come and see what’s been going on at your theater in Harlem because this theater need a upgrade all around including customer services! I won’t be back here unless stated otherwise on the news! #GoodRidden
I used to hate going to the movies. But now theyre really clean. You don’t slide accross the sticky floor. It was the weekend and it was still quiet. Even the bathroom was kept up. I rarely ever eat but the snacks were reasonable and good. I enjoyed myself thru one feature and went downstairs and paid for another. Had an awesome day.
This movie theater is absolutely DISGUSTING!!! I couldn’t believe the lack of quality. The bathroom had water all over the sinks, paper on the floor but no toilet tissue in the stalls or towel dispensers. Then the seats are very old and has vivid stains. However, the staff are nice! It’s not their fault it’s such a poor kept organization. Spend your money at an iPic because here is not worth it!
This WAS a nice theater at one time. This place is not clean and, this new seating arrangement sucks. Ive been going here for years, and despite how early my wife and I arrived before a show, we had to sit separately, opposite sides of the theater! The ticket agent said we would be seated behind each other. Not a good look for what was supposed to be our date night!
HORRIBLE!! That word sums up my whole experience. Let me start with concession stand. There was only one cashier collecting and fulfilling customers orders while there were 3 workers behind the counter viewing their phones and having a private conversation. Got to theatre at 7:20pm for a 7:45pm movie and was told theatre is still being cleaned therefore; I cannot go in until 7:30pm. Only one person assigned to clean the theatre. Not allowed to go in until 7:41pm by which that time the room was dark and made it a bit difficult to locate my preselected seat. All the wait time was in vain because once inside the theatre, there was an undeniable disgusting smell. The odor was atrocious! I would have left and considered the money spent a loss however; my counterpart really wanted to see the movie (Transformers, the last knight). After suffering over 2 hours, I went straight home and took a shower. Needless to say, I will NEVER go back.
First AMC theater I ever have gone to that is so filthy. And this was everywhere, the concetional stand, bathroom, cinema. I felt uncomfortable just seating at my seat. the armrests where all sticky. I had to get some napkins and clean them up my self.Ask an employee about the filth everywhere and he responded we dont have time for insignificant things I gave it two starts only because as most AMC theaters the layout and decor is very nice. But other than that the rest was horrible. I dont think I will ever go back to that theater unless they do a massive reform on how to keep a business clean.

2022-03-12Asked for my Covid vaccine card and Id to verify it before they even scanned my ticket. Excellent work!Only problem was that there was no one available to serve the Express line guests so I had to actually flaunt my A-List and step in front of the normal line to get their attention. Otherwise and absolutely pleasant experience. Once they finally took notice of me, the service was very polite.

2022-05-24Overall, I’m thankful to have a theater in the neighborhood though it could use a lot of work. Be prepared to wait a while to be served in the food bar line, they are slow and understaffed every time I go. Also the bathrooms are always dirty. It is worth going to their new Dolby screen, which have reclining seats and great audio that helps you forget the other mishaps of the theater.

2022-03-28This is the theater I love to take my kids to.. it’s “our family movie date” spot. Normally it’s quiet and pretty clean inside the theater and the staff is always friendly with us. Although I know something’s are out of their control- seeing kids run up and down the theater and interrupt a movie that I paid to watch is not a good feeling. For my 10 year old boy to make comment is a bit crazy.. i know overall this is technically out of their control but it sucks as they were definitely messing up the movie for the few people that was in there. Small things such as it could have been a bit tidier but it wasn’t like the guy wasn’t standing there with a mop to clean it up so.. overall a great enough experience to have us come back..

2022-05-09I havent been to this theater since 2006. I didnt remember the chairs being this narrow. Theres no room here at all. Its very tight. This really is a low budget theater. My wife and I only went here because Doc Strange was sold out everywhere else. Oh, and they dont sell nachos!? Dont know what thats about. They do sell these lil only pretzel nuggets though. Nah! Im good. I wont return here ever again.

2022-05-27I remember coming here all the time when I was a kid and it was exciting back then... now that Im an adult with my own kid I was slightly disappointed with the visual lack of growth this place has had over the years. The fact that it is partnered with AMC is even more disappointing. The seats still looked the same as it did when I was young(Im sure the old teared up ones were replaced) but the seats are trash. Having visited other theatres (reclining seats and foot rest) I just automatically assumed this theater would have the same upgrades but I was really wrong. Thank God the theater was practically empty for the movie we saw so we switched our seats so I could rest my legs over the bar that separates the handicap seating section(it was a little better but the actual seat was not comfortable for my back at all and I kept squirming in my seat the entire movie) I will say the bathroom upgrade is very nice thanks for keeping the mural sized mirror in the ladies room. Thanks for the nostalgic feeling but those seats gotta go!

2022-03-07I attended The Batman yesterday. Very clean, including the bathroom!!!.Easy to purchase tickets from the kiosk in the lobby, or the window. Not crowded. I was a little surprised at the $15.00 price for a regular popcorn and bottle water! Next time, Iwill eat at home first.

2022-06-06I had a decent time but feel like the theater is really out dated. Can use some new recliner seats like all the other AMC. While the previews were playing the bass seemed to have been moving something in the ceiling causing it to make an extremely annoying sound but stopped after awhile. Went during the matinee because I didnt want to deal with possible talkative crowds.

2022-04-25Place needs attention, staff was cordial and attentive. Movie experience was meh ,when did people talk so much during movies...restroom; dont have to be so indicative of a public testroomGiven the decline in movie theaters it was nice to take my kids to local movie theater and have a good time.

2022-07-08Would rate it a 5 but honestly wish they did more maintenance and someone to check out the theater if there was anything wrong. I took my daughter to go see the buzz lightyear movie and was at theater 2, the movie already started and the lights was still on. Ive stayed thru the whole movie with the light shining on me and my daughters face. It would be nice if someone checks on theaters thats active to make sure everything is right on track. Overall all for the time being its ok for food and price for tickets
