First time visiting this theatre and it is quite beautiful. I loved the layout and design. We had seats in the upper right mezzanine but I still felt very comfortable and had a good view. The intricate details along the ceiling were impressive. Staff was courteous and helpful. Bathroom near top floor was only one stall so I think they should remodel to fit more. I had to walk down a couple flights of stairs to get to the bottom level bathrooms. There are elevators but they were too packed.
I saw Birthday Candles there the other night and was really disappointing. Unfortunately it was boring, filled with cliché jokes and not much of an interesting plot and even the acting was lame. I couldnt wait for the main character to have her last birthday and will stop baking that cake do I could finally go home.
Wow, what a find? Five (5) stories of wonderfulment, yet a lovely, small, and quaint venue. The fifth floor in particular is a great event space, with small bar, where many pre-performance lectures are held. $$ out of $$$$$ using the TixToday (or similar App). I would recommend the American Airlines Theatre.
Technically renamed The Roundabout Theatre/American Airlines. Lots of dollars to refurbish. Small in scale, on two floors with comfortable seating. We sat in top box and you cannot see the stage on the left. For a musical, this is definitely not where you want to be. But for a comedy/drama, it’s not too bad.
We saw A Soldiers Play headlining David Alan Grier and Blair Underwood. Since we came in out of the rain with umbrellas, the theater offered plastic umbrella bags. Check in was easy, and seating was also easy. We were in the upstairs mezzanine (stair and elevator access) in the middle. So we excused ourselves about 21 times to get to our seats. Excellent view of the stage. All actors projected their voices well. The theater seating allows one to be close to the stage to enjoy the facial expressions of each actor.
My seat was great. A lot of the performers seemed to speaking directly to me. Plus, I had room to stretch my legs. The best part was the question and answer period after the show. I have never experienced that type of interaction with a theater cast. Great job being interpersonal and authentic. Please see A Soldiers Play.
This is a brand new theatre, well it was recently renovated, on Broadway. The seats are very comfortable, and there is plenty of room for your feet. There is a sky bar on the roof, where you could purchase refreshments including alcoholic drinks. Or you could just sit and look out of the huge picture windows at the city sites. Very pretty. There is an elevator to the top. There is more than one floor of bathrooms, which is very convenient. There is a large refreshment stand in the lobby. There are no stairs in the orchestra. The theatre is handicap friendly. Good theatre to see a play. I would go back. Not a good idea to buy a theatre subscription from them. They say there is a very liberal exchange policy, but that is completely false. The office/phone staff is rude. I am NOT renewing my subscription.
The show was great from what I saw, but I had a partial view seat. Discounted of course, but it really was an almost no view seat!. I had to stand the whole time to see anything at all. That was very disappointing. I would not have paid for that seat if I knew. I have purchased partial view seats before, but could always see 75% of the stage. I could see nothing from this theatres partial view, and Im tall!
Excellent theater in Times Square. Everything feels new and posh. It has an elevator but even if you decide to walk up, the trip up the stars is not very long. Its not a very big theater. If you happen to sit in the rear mezzanine, you still get a clear view of the stage. I was third row to the last and it was as good as sitting in the orchestra. There were no bars and no heads blocking my view of the stage. The seats were elevated and high enough from each other that even the tallest person in front of you would not get in your way. The seats did not have sunken cushions and there was ample leg room. If you happen to watch a show here, itll be one of your better experiences. Not so cramped for once!
The largest of the Roundabout Theater Companys three stages, three American Airlines Theatre is a beautifully restored place, and an excellent place to see a play. The sightlines and sound are good, the little lounge upstairs is nice. Maybe a bit better food options would be a plus. Otherwise, all good.
What a beautiful space. The will-call & ticket booth is immediately to the left as you enter. The venue sits next to BB Kings on 42nd in the heart of Times Square so the streets leading up to the venue are always hectic. But the moment you step inside, its a calm and soothing environment with restored neo-renaissance architecture dating from 1918, when the theatre was originally built. There are six floors to the venue with two tiered seating; the orchestra and one mezzanine. Its such an intimate space that the mezzanine seats were still incredibly close and provided great views. Though, to allow for these clear views, the mezzanine is steeply stepped, so if you need more accessible or easily accessed seating, take that into consideration. The staff at every point of contact were some of the friendliest and most courteous Ive encountered in the theater world. And if youre a patron member of the Roundabout Theatre, you are given access to their private lounge on the sixth floor where you are provided light snacks and beverages.Just a wonderful space and Roundabout produces some terrific work here. Highly recommended.
Lovely theater with a 5th floor penthouse and a lower level lounge. Smaller and more intimate located a 1/2 block from the Port Authority on 42nd street. Near Times Square. We saw A Soldiers Play by the Roundabout Theater. Excellent play, excellent theater. The night we went there was a talk before the play that was very insightful.
In addition to the wonderful shows that roundabout produces time after time, the space has immpecable features. The seating is comfortable and looks great too, it is also convenient to see the stage from anywhere in the house. The ushers are some of the kindest and most helpful people ever. Even the bartender was amazing!
I just saw Tom Stoppards Travesties here. I thought the place is huge, and we were seated somewhere at the orchestra near the stage. Nice, huge performance space. And I was happy they had the exit doors opened right after the show was over. Were on the street as quickly as possible.
The place is small and cozy and the staff was polite. Id love to see another show there again. You should check out the balcony upstairs, which has somewhat of a nice view of the street from up above. The stage was beautifully and creatively designed for the space, but was unchanged throughout the show.
This theater was poorly design. Our seats are on the second floor its long narrow rose that can only be entered from each end! Ugh... NIGHTMARE. Also the seats are so close together and theres absolutely no leg room. By the intermission my knees and ankle were in such pain I couldnt wait for the opportunity to stand up straight
Came here for a Roundabout show and was really pleased. I was in the third-to-last row and still had an excellent view – each row is quite a bit higher than the one in front of it so there’s no risk of not being able to see if you’re behind a tall person. The leg room is quite decent too.
I enjoyed the play and the work a lot. The ushers were terrific.Having one long very long aisle way I have never liked. And it stops me from coming there as often as Id like. For one thing, God forbid , if theres ever a fire to get through the aisle way would be impossible. Im sure you have something to help with that. But, also every time someone gets up to go to the bathroom they have to go through a really long way and lots of people that have to stand up over and over again. And when people are just being seated and then again at intermission its nonstop up and down to let people go by.I have a bad back and standing up over and over again was ridiculous. But everything else was fine.
Travesties was my first play at the American Airlines theater, but it wont be my last. The ambience was excellent and the interior of the theater was really cool. The only downside to the American Airlines theater that I can think of is that a 300mL bottle of water shouldnt cost $5 nor should a glass of wine cost $17.
The home of the Roundabout theater company, American Airlines Theater is an impressively restored small/mid-size theater with an orchestra and a balcony level. It has a pleasant, ornate interior thats small enough to feel relatively intimate. Theres a refreshment bar off of the orchestra entrance that serves standard pre-theater and intermission drinks and snacks plus a creative cocktail or two thats inspired by whatever production happens to be on at the moment.
About average for a Broadway theater. Seats a little tight for an average sizes person 511, 165 lbs. The show, True West got very good reviews but I thought it was horrible, so did most of the people in the theater - never been to a show with so little applause and much grumbling about how bad it was from the people around me.
Amazing theatre and the play, Travesties, was simply breathtaking. Tom Holland really steals the spotlight with his incredible performance, but the whole cast is incredibly talented both as actors and dancers. If you want to see a Broadway play, then Travesties is a must.
I am a subscriber to the Roundabout Theatre Series. It is by far the most interesting and innovative theatre series in New York. The American Airlines Theatre is one of four theaters in the group and is the largest. The acoustics are wonderful, the line of sight from all corners is great and the staff are courteous and efficient.
We just saw Arthur Millers The Price, with Mark Rufalo, Tony Shalhoub, and Danny Devito and it was THE BEST play I have ever seen and Ive seen quite a few. The theater is comfortable, clean, and accessible with a beautiful interior and decent amenities. The bar is slow though.
I was there a week ago to see long days journey. Great play. I love it!. I come here for almost every play and I have to say, there are a few rude people that work there. I have spoken to the old manager and assistant manager about them and they seemed not to do anything about it. I have gotten their names. Enrika, celia, and siara. I have watched how they interact with patrons and they honestly should not be working there. So not polite at all. I had asked enrika where my seat was and she just walked away. She went on her phone. Another time i had went to see noises off and she talked to me rude. Not nice at all. Another one of my colleagues also goes to this theatre a lot since we do under cover ratings. Something needs to be done. People pay their money and shouldnt be talked to a certain way.hopefully the manager is reading this and does something.
I went to see the play on October 17th, and was seating at the very last row. Could not hear the actors well, was frustrated. Same with people next to me. I heard so much about the play, was exited to go and such a let down. Had only few days in NY, very disappointing. (PS. Wrong name for the reviewer),
If youre way back, the immersion is great and youre less susceptible to hearing loss. I saw On the Twentieth Century here, and the performances were AMAZING!!! Kristin Chenoweth was the greatest actress onstage, and her perfomance as Fifi in The Peanuts Movie was also her charismatic voice shown onstage as well. Overall, nice angle and a damn buck for your money.
Traveling from Detroit to Milan via Chicago and London with a first class British Airways ticket. The American Airlines personnel wasn’t able to check my luggage to final destination, and not even to London, so I should have picked up my luggage in Chicago and checked it to final destination, except the fact that there where theoretically only 45 minutes from landing in Chicago and taking off to London... But the flight from Detroit was 1h20m late and luggage delivered 1h later. So the flight to London was lost. Reprotected on the next day 5pm and accommodated in a nearby hotel for the night. The day after the 5pm flight was cancelled and reprotected on the 8:30 pm flight. Finally got in Milan 24h later than scheduled! Fu*k!

2021-12-08My first time at the American Airlines Theater, and it was a pleasant experience. Went to see Trouble in Mind which was excellent by the way! Lots of seating options (no bad seats here), and I got upgraded a couple of rows just before curtain call. The acoustics allow for clear and crisp vocal sounds. This theater is well kept.

2022-05-21I have to say, while Birthday Candles was good, we were extremely disappointed that Debra Messing did not perform on Wednesday, May 18th. We were not given an explanation and were not informed until 2 and a half hours before the show. The only reason we purchased tickets for this show was to see Ms Messing perform. We will not be attending any other shows with this company at this theater.

2020-01-26This theatre is perfect! Very clean and bathrooms on multiple floors allowing you to go during intermission without the long excessive lines. Recently saw A Soliders Play and it was phenomenal! Id give it 10 stars if I could.

2022-03-24Ive been to this theater twice, my seats are both good. I think the only bad seat in the theater are the box seats those are partial view. The theater is not super large so even the rear orchestra is still great. Best seats are the center orchestra and front mezz. They integrate the booking system with TodayTix so you get to choose your seats. Also there are usually lottery or rush ticket available on TodayTix as well for their shows.

2022-03-26Very comfortable theatre. Orchestra and mezz are good for viewing the stage. Side boxes are another story. Ride the elevator to the Penthouse sitting area prior to the show and relax to curtain time.
