10/02/21 - Back again. 5-StarsThis time we brought the Grandparents. They did it again.CIAs Flagship Eatery run by students is a testament to the schools top-shelf culinary program. Very much worth the experience. Its exciting to see the students diving head first into delivering a truely Devine dining experience. Keep in mind that field adjustments are part of the experience (and entertainment) and you will have a great time enjoying local Hudson Valley Area foods. From aps and cocktails to wine, the main course and sweets. Absolutely soul satisfying.Wife raved over her brined pork with beet mole while my duck was perfect medium rare. Butternut Squash and peanut soup was a great find while the mint ice cream with cherry foam left us both in awe. When our waiter leaned over and said how bout a tour of the kitchen we jumped at the chance. Meeting first-hand the pastry chefs was cool. They were eager to hear what we thought. When we mentioned the mint ice cream being heavenly, one of the gals teared up with joy proclaiming I made that.Set in picturesque Roth Hall amongst teaching classes adds to the experience. Be sure to fill out the suggestion card and be critical. They want to hear anything and everything that they can do to enhance the food and your experience. Be sure to add this one to your must-do list.
I have never left a bad review in my life, but I had a terrible experience with this place. We Drove 3 hours to celebrate a special occasion. We hit traffic and called the reservation line. We were told very clearly that we could still come at a particular time (30 min after the original res) We arrived 5 min earlier than the agreed on time and they would not accommodate us. They were super rude and had no concern for us. Ruined a special day for me and my husband.
I ate at the Tavern in this American Bounty Restaurant during a college visit for the CIA. This restaurant is beautiful and has a professional setting. I ordered the hush puppies as an appetizer. The hush puppies were somewhat bland but the addition of the chili mayo made them tasty. The unfortunate thing about them though was that we found a HAIR in one of the hush puppies. We did notify our waitress and she informed us that the hush puppies were taken off of our bill so that was nice. I ordered the Tavern Cheddar burger that was accompanied with garlic fries. The burger was very good but the fries were a little on the salty side. Also, when we sat down we were provided with chili lime popcorn which was delicious! All in all, this restaurant including its menu items, hospitality, and staff was very impressive and professional. The staff was also very sweet, polite, and respectful. Overall, it was a wonderful experience!
A group of us were here for the Hudson Valley Restaurant Week. We got the special lunch menu where you ordered one starter (appetizer, soup, or salad), one main entree, and one dessert for $22.95. Drinks are extra. There is a standard 20% gratuity to support the CIA... the Culinary Institute of America that is.The bread included in the meal were delicious dinner rolls. We got PEI mussels and chicken fried quail for starters. Both were delicious and rich in taste. Main courses we had were the Pan-seared sturgeon, the roasted lamb chops, and the pomegranate Glazed duck. All were cooked to perfection. The desserts included pumpkin Panna Cotta, caramelized honey crisp apple, and there was an ice cream dish that I cant remember the name but the picture I posted here. The meal was very filling.Drink wise we had bacon Bourbon, ice wine, ice cider, and coffee.I highly recommend this restaurant. For restaurant week, this place is an absolute steal.
We enjoyed our lunch at American Bounty during our visit to Hyde Park. We were promptly seated at our appointment time. The wait staff was friendly and attentive. The complementary bread was freshly out of the oven. Both appetizers (Pork Belly & Bourbon-Maple Cured Salmon) were nicely done. The Halibut entree was perfectly cooked, moist and flavorful. The only miss was the Grilled Striploin. It looked pink inside, but was not juicy. Also, it was only lukewarm.
I would give 6 stars if I could. Every dish my husband and I had was impeccably plated and absolutely delicious. From the bread on our table to the dessert, we felt like each course was some of the best food we ever had. Additionally, the service was incredible. I don’t think I’ve ever had better service in my life! This is a high end experience and worth every penny! Also, the campus is beautiful!
Friday night dinner is actually a class for the students. $39 price fixe for a 3 course meal. Service was excellent and our food was great too (wagyu beef and trout). Love the location and the whole concept. We also had cocktails in the tavern prior to our meal and had great service there too. Looking forward to the lunch we are having at Bocuse.
We stopped here for a drink before our dinner reservation and this was a neat little stop. They brew their own beer on campus and serve them on draft here - the IPA was very tasty. We had also had cocktails and they were okay - I didnt think they were well balanced, but my wife seemed to really like hers. We also ordered Oysters and they were okay - my wife really liked them
A visit to the CIA on the Hudson is always worth it! Their restaurants, staffed and managed by students as part of their training there, are first class, and prices, for what you get, are amazingly low. This particular restaurant focuses on American fare, as the name implies, and it doesnt disappoint.
I was lucky enough to score a coveted reservation for 4 people on a Saturday and I can tell you that this is BY FAR one of the best dining experiences you can have without going to a michelin starred restaurant. Myself and my guests enjoyed a team of wait staff whom were very knowledgeable about the menu, each item we ordered was prepared flalwlessly, and when it came to dessert.....Im not ashamed to say that each person was ready to order a second because they were fantastic. The atmosphere, food, experience, and general quality leaves a lasting impression. If you have any chance to experience this restaurant, even midweek, take it. An impromptu date night will turn into the time where each bit was better than the next, each sip of your drink feels like youre someplace special, and at the end of the meal....you will forget that it was prepared by students training at a level akin to the best chefs in the world.
The CIA restaurants have been on our list of restaurants to visit for some time. We were not disappointed! What a great lunch! We had lunch at The Tavern at CIA. I ordered the American Wagyu Mojo Beef Tacos with pickled vegetables, cilantro and Adobo Crema. So good! The service was absolutely fantastic. I highly recommend The Tavern at CIA.
During our fun and delicious visit to The Culinary Institute of America, we went to have lunch at this restaurant. We got a table by the window, close to their kitchen. When I tried to peak at the kitchen from afar, the Maître d’Instructor came over with a smile and told me to go take a closer look. So I walked over and got a quick but a good look at all the chefs and chefs-to-be at work. So cool!Just as all the other restaurants here at the CIA, all the staffs are the actual students, and instructors helping them to do their best. For appetizer, we ordered PEI Musselsto share. Since it was an appetizer item, I expected this dish to be rather small in portion, but it was nice and big! It was enough to share among the three of us, in fact, this could have been someone’s main dish. And it was quite delicious, really nice start of our lunch...For main, we ordered Sautéed Duck Breast, Roasted Lamb Chops, and Pan-Seared Striped Bass. The lamb was more rare than medium-rare, a bit too rare for me...other than that, everything else was tasty, high quality, and carefully prepared. We enjoyed them all.We also had Buttermilk Panna Cotta and Lemon-Blueberry Napoleon for desserts. The Napoleon was hard to eat, phyllo was a bit too hard, so, when we tried to cut into it, the beautiful layers got all squished before phyllo giving out and break off. But, the flavor of both desserts were excellent. It was a very pleasant lunch, the student server took a really good care of us, he was friendly, professional and courteous. It was interesting and kind of fun to watch Maître d’Instructor watching everyone like a hawk and make sure the student staffs are doing their job right, and doing it well, keeping everyone on point. I think our server gave us a great and thoughtful service. I am glad we got to experience this restaurant with great American food and service! hooray to the CIA students and professors!
Only came for dessert, but the dessert was absolutely delicious. Beautifully presented and one of the best-tasting things I’ve ever eaten! The atmosphere is very upscale, but a variety of people were there, wearing anything from suits to baseball caps. Definitely would recommend, although it is pricey, and I hope I’ll return for dinner!
We dined at The Tavern @American Bounty. It was more crowded & claustrophobic than relaxed. Plenty of menu & drink selections, however, salt was the overwhelming taste du jour. Wait staff sweet and somewhat attentive. The campus and environs with a view of the Hudson are stunning. Its a shame we could not even catch a glimpse of the flowering outside in The Tavern.
The setting is beautiful on the campus of the The Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY. We ate at The American Bounty Restaurant which has a rich, elegant decor. The students serving us were pleasant but clearly nervous and hesitant. The food was absolutely delicious (though the menu differed greatly from what I had been able to find online). My starter (crabcakes) was beautifully presented and ate light but flavorful. For my main course, I had the scallops and pork belly offering, served over a delicate mashed potato. For dessert I had what i thought would be a carrot cake but was actually seemed like a carrot cake ice cream over a graham cracker like crust with pineapples which I washed down with a formosa oolong tea. While each course at first glance appeared on the small side, each dish appealed to my eyes, my tastebuds, and my stomach and I left feeling more than completely satisfied and satiated.I was accompanied by 5 family members who also raved about their dishes (pea ravioli, pork porterhouse, steak, salmon, smores). All of the student servers were professional, though some were a little shaky as they placed dishes on the table. Really our only complaint was that our main server twice forgot part of our order and didnt check in with us during the meal to see how things were going. This meant it took a long time to get the missing items. Luckily, my delicious ice cream didnt melt as I waited for my tea order to be finally submitted and brought to the table.Overall, we greatly enjoyed our experience and would highly recommend the American Bounty Restaurant. What a wonderful place for the students to hone their craft in a fine dining setting. Kudos to them.
Lived in the area for many years and never had the opportunity to eat at the Culinary. The setting is beautiful and our meals were exquisite. They have a Price Fixe menu that makes it much more affordable. The waitstaff are also students and the gratuity goes towards their Chefs jacket for graduation.
Food here was absolutely amazing. The atmosphere is amazing. Looks like the menu changes from time to time as it was different when we went from when we had looked online a couple of weeks ahead of time. Everything was cooked to perfection. Service is good as well. It is all students from the school and they do a great job. Would definitely like to visit again and try one of the other restaurants at the school.
What an overall marvelous experience at the Culinary institute of America. You are waited on by the students. The menu is farm to table at this restaurant and quite impressive. The wine and drink list is mostly from New York State. It was really fun to be there and be a part of that history. Be prepared to stay for a while. We had a large group and from start to finish our lunch was about 2 and a 1/2 hours. Reminded me of a nice the Italian experience made in America. You can also stroll and look inside the classrooms and kitchens where the students are preparing food and being instructed.
The restaurant is beautiful. You have a view of the students cooking your food. The staff, also students were helpful and extremely friendly. And the food... Absolutely delicious. Had the rack of lamb and it was probably the best thing I have ever tasted. The menu is affordable as well. Highly recommend.
Oh my! An exquisite lunch - careful what you choose! The sweet pea soup looked fabulous, but I would not choose it. Ever. However, the other choice was an amazing corn chowder that I loved. The beet salad with “pumpernickel dirt” was spectacular. Salmon was heavenly. Mom loved the lamb. No coffee, no desert. Very pricey. Worth making a reservation for a special occasion.
We ate lunch in the tavern...amazing. Excellent food and service. Started with the spring pea hummus with heirloom carrots...next duck tacos with Thai cream and house made chips. Dessert-chocolate mousse cake with coffee creme. YUM! I am never disappointed in American Bounty
An incredible dining experience. Presentation is superb, and the complex flavors of each dish were truly amazing. It was all we could do to resisting the urge to lick the plate. My wife and I both had mussels: the broth was as delicious as it was memorable. We had a pear salad and a beet salad: both reflecting the season and the products of local farms. Our waiter was new, and although English was clearly not his first language, his efforts reflected the high standards of the Culinary Institute. Lunch was casual and unrushed, a most pleasant way to celebrate a special occasion.I noticed in the reviews one comment about the gratuity. If you read CIAs website they mention that 20% is automatically added for student activities. Given the level of service, the presentation, and the atmosphere, as well as well as the benefit to students, I find this hardly objectionable.Again, American Bounty at CIA was a simply incredible dining experience.
Went there for a dinner...its a nice restaurant for its price. Our food came in a little bit late and the duck confit did not match so great with kale. My in law i think specify on the reservation to have a happy birthday greetings on the dessert but they forgot it. She have allergies with eggs and milk so we asked if they can make lemon sherbet and they said yes but end up getting just the sherbet they already made. If youre in CIA its still worth to try. It might be just one of those night that didnt work great for us.
Wonderful dinner at American Bounty. Delicious salads. Yummy Parkerhouse rolls remind me of Grandmas homemade ones. The roast chicken with tarragon was my favorite. Spouse enjoyed the lamb. Portions were reasonable, not over-sized. We even enjoyed dessert. A lovely meal and a great evening at American Bounty!
Oh my God, if you have to ask whether the food in this restaurant is worth the price and the wait for a reservation perhaps you had better either eat at home where moms cooking always satisfies, or go to some other local place. But when Brian, the head chef, steps in to oversee the students in preparing a world-class meal for you, your taste buds and general feeling of happiness and well-being will go through the roof.
Overall a really great experience. I have been to all of the CIA restaurants many times. Unfortunately bc the kitchen and service are both student led - there can be a huge discrepancy in services. The majority of the time my experience has been great but there are still many students who have lots to learn! Administration should try to take some measures to check in on guests to ensure an expensive meal at one of their institutions is undertaken properly.
The American Bounty restaurant at The Culinary Institute of America was absolutely fantastic. One exception the portions are too small. The staff was great you could tell that they were learning but doing a great job. I would recommend a tour and dinner at the American bounty to anyone.
We had a very nice dinner. Not your usual restaurant where you are hurried. Food was prepared in keeping with what students have learned and service is over seen by instructor. Plate size is somewhat smaller in portion and expect to to pay a little extra. Was surprised to see 20% gratuity added to check.
This was a tremendous disappointment. American Bounty, a CIA restaurant, presented this meal event as a taste of New York. I think the CIA students need a class trip to NY. From the start there were issues. Checking people in laboriously took way too long. We were moved from our original table because someone had a reservation for our table. There were no reservations for specific tables. This was advertised as community seating. Ok, now the food. The pizza was a Sicilian style on a spongy soggy crust with a hint of cheese and sauce. Seemed like it had been frozen and popped in an oven. Gyro was a cone of lamb in some sort of BBQ sauce with a few onion slices and a bit of lettuce. No tzatziki. Hamburger had a very off taste. Fish tacos were cold with no sauce and no flavor. Even pretzel rolls, which looked delicious, were heavy and dense. There were lots of food options (it was a buffet for the most part) but my dining partner and I didnt finish any item we tried. Dessert seemed to have come out of an Entenmanns box. Weve had better luck at other CIA restaurants and well probably avoid any of their events in the future
Hudson Valley restaurant week had us enjoying a 3 course lunch for less than 23 bucks! ( Upcharge on wagyu steak entree added $4 - definitely worth it ). Food is always exceptional; but, what I enjoy most is talking to the servers. Theyre Culinary students who arent getting tips, theyre getting graded. Theyre usually enthusiastic about their chosen profession and happy to talk about the dishes and their dreams.
This was terrible. The food was incredibly salty, and it was all salty. Incredibly the salad was salty. My wifes fish was too salty to eat. It was expensive but basically crap. The app was salty. We had to ask three times over a 45 minute period to get a glass of water, in spite of asking every time for sparkling we still wound up with still water. For inedible food and a tiny carafe of wine we wound up paying well over $100.Its not like I went there with an axe to grind, we were super excited and had made reservations a month in advance. We were ready for something great, but it was terrible.
First of all, the food and service would be considered average to poor anywhere else; but come on folks. This is where we are training the next generation of culinary experts, for crying out loud. The school is backed by some of the best in the industry: Marriott and Hilton. You would honestly think that you are in for a real treat. Dont waste your time at this place. Seriously.Beautiful campus. Wonderful approach across a courtyard from the parking garage. Terrific grand entry point followed by an institutional grand hallway to the entrance....the magnificent and acclaimed AMERICAN BOUNTY. Then it was ALL down hill from there.Terrible greeting at the door (non-plus), wimpy service. Wait until you hear this, four separate servers asked for a pepper mill, two were reminded more than once that we still had not seen one. Someone finally brought one to the table just before dessert. Over cooked fish, tough steak with too much sauce. If this is the next generation, better get your eating out experiences done now, it aint getting any better with this crowd. Please take a look at the photo of the dessert. What exactly is that? Disgusting is what it is.Asked to see a manager or someone with whom we could relate our concern. Once, twice...twenty minutes. Oh, the same process as the pepper mill. No one has heard of it, or in a fine dining restaurant where we train the best of the best, there isnt one.Never saw anyone that night, but got the business card of someone that we could follow up with. Left messages the following day and the day after that. Never got a response. And for all of this terribleness and lack of concern, they charge regular fine dining prices. Our dinner for four was $250 with tip.Did you know that that students at the CIA protested against the administration on 23 April 2013 (we were there last week). They are complaining that the school has dropped their standards. Now everything makes sense. Dont go....and dont be impressed by anyone who was trained there. Let the experience of dining out do the talking. Boy were we mad.
He dishes are overall pretty simple but are filled with flavor and interesting combinations. The menu obviously changes seasonally so the dishes we had might not be there by the time you, the reader, gets there, but Ill tell you about them anyways.Entrees - Local Chicken Breast and Steelhead Trout: The chicken breast was very well cooked and though too salty, the scalloped potatoes and sauce were great compliments. The trout was fresh and the cabbage served on the side was an interesting combination which I never had before.Side - Delicata Squash Fritters: YUM. Crispy fried squash circles with sugar and cinnamon!Dessert - Warm Caramelized Apple and Pumpkin Panna Cotta: The apple was sweet and juicy while the panna cotta was served with tart pear jam and pear ice cream. I think that addition of the slightly sour pear to the sweet panna cotta was probably my favorite flavor combination of the night.
Best place to eat when touring this area. It is a hidden gem, as you would not think there would be a public restaurant in this school. It showcases the students and the food is always good. It is a cheaper alternative than the more expensive (and more elegant) French restaurant at the CIA.

2022-06-10So much fun visiting the CIA. Love the gift shop, fountains, views & interesting displays up and down the hallways. We had reservations at American Bounty for a Mid Hudson Food & Wine Society dinner. We were not disappointed. The students were so attentive & food was delicious. Highly recommend.

2022-06-21Absolutely fantastic. Everything tasted like the best version possible. The rolls are like a pretzel croissant mix with a wonderfully buttery and salty flavor. The steak was outstanding, beyond tender and perfectly seasoned. It came on a bed of warm potato salad and creamed spinach, both were delicious. The creme brulee was out of this world, I dont think I will ever have a better version of that dessert. And the lemon poppyseed cake was perfectly balanced between sweet and tart with the poached rhubarb and honey ice cream. Cannot wait to eat here again.

2021-11-04We enjoyed the views of the river before heading to the restaurant. We split the smoked brisket appetizer. My wife had the pork belly and scallops and I had the cioppino. We had the espresso mousse to end our meal. Everything was delicious, the staff was prompt and the dining room very comfortable. There is an added 20% to your check to support the schools scholarships and student activities. We were fine with that but it would have been nice to know ahead of time. We will still go back.

2022-02-22You can look at this as paying for culinary students training to help pay their way or for well cooked food you get to enjoy. I think both are applicable. Sometimes they make mistakes, but they always fix it.

2022-04-11This restaurant is within the culinary institute of America and it is completely run by the students. The food and presentation is excellent. Most of the time you need to make reservations for the specific restaurant.

2021-09-29Passing by the area on our way north and stoped by to visit the Culinary Institute of America. Food, services, and the whole experience at the American Bounty Restaurant were great. You need advance reservation in weeks to get a spot though.

2022-01-12One of the restaurants at the Culinary Institute of America, serving as training ground for some of the top chefs in America.A lovely experience, from start to finish. Lovely setting, interesting and varied menu. Essentially, excellent food that is very well cooked and presented. The students serving are gracious and largely well-spoken. Portions make a filling meal, not over abundant to need doggie bags.A clear effort was made to keep a safe environment, with masks required until seated, and a good distance between filled tables.Reservations are required.Highly recommend.

2021-11-13Great food all around, and good friendly service. The only knock is that their vegetarian entrees had tiny portions. They could have paired them with a side or something to justify the price and to ensure that the customer didnt leave hungry.
