One of the best pool halls I have ever been to. The waitresses were kind and polite. The atmosphere wasnt smokey or bad smelling. I drove 90 minutes from Connecticut for a pool lesson with one of the best players to ever hold a pool cue, Thorsten Hohmann. And even though I was handicapped, he was excellent in his delivery and methodology. He made me feel comfortable and made sure it was worth every penny I shelled out. Learning from him gave me hope and optimism. Heck, he even helped us find a parking spot after driving around the block a few times - because as you know, its NYC. I have nothing negative to say and I cant wait for my next lesson in the coming weeks. I highly recommend Mr. Hohmann and Amsterdam Billiards to anyone.
What a great place to spend an afternoon. We randomly stumbled upon this place and decided to go in and shoot some pool (billiards). The tables were very well maintained and the atmosphere of the place was really nice. In just observing others, there were a lot of great players. You pay per person by the hour and the rates do differ from weekday to weekend. Overall a great place to kill some time and sharpen some skills.
The staff here is very good at checking on you and are friendly. Plenty of open tables due to Covid-19 however Ive seen this place packed before and I know it will again soon. The price for the location is ideal a bit pricey but the fun you will have is more than enough to keep you coming back for more fun
Location is a bit dated. The prices were a bit steep but then again they arent that many billiard spots in NYC. The drinks were okay. But I do recommend the personal pizzas. They were pretty tasty for bar type food. There was a older gentleman working the front and he seemed a bit disgruntled. The waitstaff was a bit aloof. Overall the place was okay, we played pool. But I doubt that Id come here again.
One of the great places to relax and chill with your buddies. You could even pick up some games of pool with others. They offer a wide range of games such as pool, darts, beer pong and table tennis but would have to pay extra. The bar and drinks in general are great, but most of all, the place is spacey!
I absolutely love Amsterdam Billiards. I started coming here in 2008 when a show I was working played at Webster hall across the street.Having since moved to NYC in over a decade ago I have been consistently going to Amsterdam. Ive taken friends and family when they visit from out of town and my now wife and I had our second date here.I am so thankful that this institution survived the pandemic. Amsterdam Billiards was the first place my friends and I went to when we felt safe enough and were vaccinated. If youre looking for an awesome, quiet, well run establishment to play pool and have a couple drinks then this is your place. Oh also they have ping pong, darts, beer pong, and a few other ways to make a great night. Do yourselves a favor and stop in, you wont regret it.
Can’t really ask for more in a pool hall. Servers were attentive. I went here with a friend and for this age we’re in what they do seems to fare well. Just a temperature check and waiver. Lots of tables so there was no wait. We had a good time. $32 for a table rent and then charged by the minute.
Sure the billards tables are nice and plentiful but its too overpriced to be worth more than a brief visit. Pay close attention to the prices, if you bring a bunch of friends to hang out for a few hours you could easily be looking at a $200++ bill, not counting drinks.
Very relaxed atmosphere. Excellent for grabbing a drink to catch up with a friend as its not too loud to hear each other, but sufficiently busy that you dont feel youll be overheard.Small caveat might be hard to get a table for every long if you go there in league night, but the bar is still a good spot to hang out.
Super friendly and great place to hang out and play pool. The staff is super friendly and the drinks are actually very good especially considering the prices. Theres more than enough tables that you dont have to wait and youre guaranteed to enjoy yourself. The atmosphere is very relaxed and theres no pressure and nobody gets in the way of each other while theyre playing pool. Highly recommend a good place to relax.
I recently came here with a friend to play some pool late at night. We were told it would be a 45 minute wait before we got a table, which was fine because there were plenty of places to sit down and chill. The tables were in great shape, and everything was in good working order. We had a great time and would definitely come back.
We visited on Saturday night from 7 to about 10ish. Good place, well maintained, clean, quite crowd. Everyone pretty much interested in playing pool, no fooling around. They have plenty of tables. $15 per person per hour. Min 1 hour, after hour they can count per min (based on the same $15 per hour). Drinks selection is so so, but acceptable for this place since its to play pool really.
Very cool place to hang out and shoot pool. The hostess is an Asian woman who was very sweet to us and makes you feel very welcome. The waitress service is great. They have a full bar and it is a very large billiards hall. Price for playing an hour of pool is great for the city. Nice friendly environment. I took my 11 year old son and his friend and they had a lot of fun. No pool hustlers here, lol!
Good prices on pool tables. I only stayed a little over an hour. My lady friend and I had a blast. The server was friendly and courteous. The drinks were ok a bit pricey but not too bad. I would come here again with more friends. This place seems more fit for large groups than couples.
Staff is ok. Bartenders at the bar are so so. However the ladies that serve drinks to the tables are quite polite and friendly. Some of the staff issuing the pool tables are not as friendly. This place was a 3/weekly visit . On twice of visits there were competitions going on which is understandable however the inconsistency of the staff for estimated time were off. Found a better place in BK with better drinks and tables. Need some service recover Amsterdam.. you lose customers this way.
I am not a pool player, so I cant speak to the quality of the tables. I can say that the beer was cold, the staff was friendly, and the service was excellent. Apparently, it takes a long long long time to get food, so if you want it, order immediately. Its convenient to Union Square, but if you are reading this, you probably already know that.
The servers are b-u-s-y, so be sure to take advantage of their attention when they are able to speak with you. The drinks are overpriced and the food selection is *very* overpriced, but it is a pool hall after all, so how else will they stay in business. Overall if you have a healthy enough paycheck to afford to play, there’s really no competition so Amsterdam wins by default.
This is probably the best place to play pool in Manhattan whether you want to sharpen your skills, spend time with your significant other or to have a fun night with your buddies.... Its big and very dynamic. Full bar and great service are definitely a very nice addition to the pool experience. Sometimes its hard to get a table in the evening, probably because the place is super popular, but still Id definitely recommend to anybody.
The atmosphere is fun but was surprised to find that even though the entire bar was empty at a non peak time they were charging $12 per person per hour to play... So instead of staying for 2 hours to play and buying many drinks, we left after only one drink and no games... Business model seems a little off?
Probably the nicest pool hall I’ve been to in my life. Lots of wood, nice bar, waitress was VERY nice and considerate, took good care. Tables in above average condition, balls polished! Music got a little yuppy. Little pricey for the table. Really polite staff. Love the Amsterdam!
The wait may take away a bit of the charm and character of the former (many many years ago) Upper West Side haunt, but frankly, once you and your friends get your table youll forget all about the wait and be ready to rack em up and see there is a Willie Mosconi, Minnesota Fats, or even a Black Widow (Jeanette Lee - and she is amazing to watch!)Pool, years ago, was played in smokey, dimly lit halls, usually off the beaten path, and frequently with somewhat sketchy characters in and around the place. But this place, founded by brothers Greg and Ethan Hunt (no, not the Mission: Impossible character!) and comedian David Brenner back in 89 really set the bar for a place that was accessible to anyone with the desire to learn or play and the time to do it. They host numerous leagues of all skill levels, have many patient and skilled teachers available for lessons, and run a very tight ship in terms of getting people on a table. It can be a bit pricey, but if you like shooting a little stick, this is a great place to go.
Huge pool hall with solid tables and good quality sticks. The staff is reliable with drink orders and the fees are pretty reasonable (we played about 9 games for around $60. I booked a table during league night by showing up a couple hours early and putting my name in and left. This worked and I was able to get right on when I came back. Seems tedious but if you have to wait all night to play youll go crazy, better to see what demand is like in advance.
They take advantage if you’re drunk. I had an “open tab”, but they closed it on their account. They forged our signature and gave themselves their own tip. We never received our receipt. After we tried to sign for our account they told us we had already “signed” even though we hadn’t.
A good place to go for some billiards with some friends. Seems like they have events too. I was a bit surprised by the older crowd but I suspect it had to do with what was going on. Seemed like a lot of regulars there. Equipment is in decent shape too. Very big place. Biggest con is price. Pool was very expensive as were the drinks—even by manhattan standards.
Im a big fan of Amsterdam Billiards Club! Its the definition of a dive bar... very relaxed and chill atmosphere. It doesnt look like theyve changed the decor in 50 years, but it works. They always have a variety of good beers on tap and the bartenders are pleasant. If you are in the area and youre looking to unwind, socialize, and drink good beer, check out Amsterdam Billiards Club.
We decided to visit last night my husband and I, and we were looking forward to a game of pool and a couple of drinks after our busy doing tourist stuff day. We were shocked that they tried to charge us $60 dollars for the hour, seriously is that for real absolutely ridiculous, when you can pay €2 per game at home. Needless to say we didn’t play, it was bad enough that we paid $30 for 2 drinks. I know we are in NYC but this is day light robbery.
Amsterdam Billiards is a great place to grab a drink or some food and shoot a game of pool. Tons of space, clean, nice tables, as well as good food and drinks at decent prices. Friendly staff too. If youre looking for a place to have a game or three and hang out with friends this is a great choice.
Good pool place for beginners and pros. Usually you see only Older people here playing pool and chilling. Prices are reasonable, staffs are friendly and helpful. Atmosphere feels laid back and chill. Overall great place for pool and tournaments are held here for the pros.
My home away from home! One of the few classy pool halls left in NYC that doesn’t feel like a nightclub where you can’t even hear yourself speak. At ABC, you can shoot a mean game of pool, play darts and beer pong by the bar, enjoy your favorite libations or try a creative cocktail from the talented and beautiful mixologists, or just throw a great company party. Yes, there is often a wait for a table because the vibe here is just that chill. The food here is catered so be ready to order ASAP upon arrival if you’re walking in hungry. Still standing- I knew this place as Corner billiards -appropriate with its geographic location. Management is much better now though place looks nicer and prices are still decent. Added plus -its open in the afternoon so you can play casual games in a virtually empty pool hall, and hear some good tunes
Me and 3 of my friends went today for billiards , my friend mentioned that there is going to be only 3 of them playing, so it was understood that the 4th person is not going to play, but at the end even after mentioning he charged us for 4 of us.That was very disappointing, I would definitely recommend others that if you are not playing make sure the person who is at the counter should write it down somewhere, because he tends to forget. We just felt that we were cheated!
Went here on a double date last night. Place is huge, they have a lot of pool tables available. Place is for 21+ year old so you dont have to worry about annoying teenagers (Must have ID to enter). When we arrived around 8, the place was packed. However, we only had to wait 10-15 minutes (They have a lot of seats where you can sit and a bar). My boyfriend ordered a shot of whiskey, my friend boyfriend had a glass of water and my friend and I had a shot of patron it came up to $44! Then when we were done with our games (hour and an half) it came up to $78. Good place, but a bit pricey.
Yes, yes, and yes. Haha I love this spot - either for drinking at their classy, wavy designed bar (nice lighting), or for playing a game of pool with one or multiple people.Enough space so you are not crowded on top of the next table.Bonus: You can also play darts or other types of games around the bar area. This seemed popular for afterwork happy hour people.
7$ bud lights and 15$ chicken tenders worst than the dollar menu. Something doesnt add up. It is a nice venue to bring a group. But dont expect to find your bride here anytime soon. Bartender tried charging me for 2 extra beers and argued with me when I told her facts. Womp womp
Certainly one of the best pool hall in NYC. With more than 20 professional billiard tables, dart games, and an overall smooth vibe, both experts and amateurs can go and play there. Although the hourly rates for the tables are higher than other pool hall or bars, its worth the difference of quality. However, the personel tends to monitor the customers too closely,
This have to be the best billiards Ive been to. The one in my home town was a crappier place. After I found out the Black Widow used to worked and played there. I always stopped by and play for a hour or two. Great drinks selection, and also I would love to come at night see how lively this place is. may be next time. Im still a rookie pool player. Quality tables and cues, my only complaint is the cue ball itself having the red dots kinda mess up my game a bit but gives me good practice. I go here every year or anytime Im in town.
Other reviews have described this as a hip place with a young crowd and have said its busy with a wait for a table. Ive only ever been on a weekday in the afternoon and its nothing like that. By day its quiet with an older crowd either practising alone or shooting straight pool for hours.Amsterdam is a good hall with around 30 tables, all of a decent standard - not fabulous but by no means shabby. House cues are generally pretty good too. There are also a few billiard tables converted for ping pong and a foosball table if thats your thing.Prices in the daytime are reasonable at $7 an hour (perhaps more for more people - that seems common elsewhere but not tested here). There is a full bar and a server will take orders at your table after a certain time. All in all this is a good pool hall and great for getting in some practice. There are a few different leagues run here also which take place on different nights of the week.
Good place with an authentic atmosphere and some modern style beer pong table, fuzzball, and darts to help wait in line for the next available pool table. The line might be longer in the late evening, otherwise very nice and cool stuff, definitely recommend visiting for a game of pool!
Great place to shoot billiards. There is a wait for a table but while waiting you can take advantage of the foosball table. The table is slightly tilted so you might have a disadvantage or an advantage depending on which side you play. This spot is so chill. Youre guaranteed to have a good time. Young crowd.
Proper pool hall, best one Ive been to in Manhattan. Huge space filled with decently separated 9 foot tables, each with seemingly well kept cloth. They also have ping pong tables, and one snooker table. Food is served here - though, only the fries are vegetarian - and there a fully stocked bar.
If your over sixty, dont go. This was my husbands dream to play at Amsterdam Billiards, and he is a good player. We finally had the time on our last trip to NYC. According to my husband the tables were ok, but a little close together. We waited over an hour for the table and it was a week night. Couldnt get the attention of the waitress, had to go to the bar order and pick up our drinks. We are in NYC once a year mostly on business. The staff and management were the rudest people I have encountered in NYC in years.
The only time I came here it was for a 9 ball tournament, walking in I felt like I was in a real pool hall. It was what I always imagined the inside of a pool hall looked like (based on a lot of 1950-60s TV and movies...) I was used to small bars with a few tables, Amsterdam just blew me away. When I went there, two of the top straight pool players in the world were having an exhibition match. All of the tables had marks from the break lines as well as the racks but the tables still played very well. Im going to be working in the city soon so its very likely Ill be joining a league here.

2022-03-06Excellent fun! Excellently social and the atmosphere is cozy. The drinks and the game is smooth, to be shared with friends and those you enjoy. Prices are great, service is great. Situated in the right spot, at the right time, for the right reason... fun! Highly recommended!

2022-02-07I have been coming here for so long now, and i can never get enough of this place. The Vibe from the staff is extremely friendly, fast, and professional. Drinks are good but food isnt the best bar food you can find out there, tho you are here mainly for the fun of playing billiards and having drinks with your friends. Me and my brother come here so often like literally almost every weekend, and we even come here with friends, and we always have fun. Seriously this place is like the local playground for me and my brother, we come here play some games and always have fun!

2022-06-26Guys I have to to tell you. This place use to be the blast with previous owners and management. Now it’s a total disaster regarding ethnic people of color discrimination from the present owner I’ve just experienced. 15 year plus support with previous management after returning from a two and a half year Break due to the pandemic. Finally I’ll never be back until this present owner as of 06/25/2022 is no longer running the show at what used to be Amsterdam Billiards. For now. I’ll use my finances elsewhere. To the rest of my people from my ethnic group color. See how will they treat you and make your own choice when it comes to spending you hard earned money to receive zero respect and Racial Profiling and hope this info help him to stop his unacceptable behavior.

2022-06-26Pretty expensive for a place that doesn’t have to do anything - $17 per person per hour if a group of 3-4, $18 for 1-2. PER PERSON! Drinks are also overpriced. Nice concept, but there are better pool halls with better drinks at a lower cost. Chart for pool pricing isn’t explained well and is super confusing so feel like we lowkey got scammed

2022-07-02Good space. Came last night at 2 am and it was closed. Website says its open to 4 am. Staff was really rude. Not returning. Taking my business elsewhere

2022-01-13Very nice place. The tables are well kept and clean, the staff is friendly, efficient and attentive. Loved the vibe and energy of the place super chill good music and ambience. The price to play 8 Ball is around $15 dollars per person per hour which is reasonable and fair in my opinion. Only been there once but going back very soon.

2019-11-21This place is really nice on the inside, the staff is very friendly, and the prices are reasonable for games. Drinks are what youd expect for Manhattan, but not completely unreasonable. I would definitely recommend this place to my friends and family.

2022-03-04The tables and house cues are okay. The layout of tables is extremely strange, its like a maze. Usually pool halls are more neatly laid out. It does feel cozy though.Theres more of a mix of serious pool players and casuals here compared to other pool halls, which is not ideal. The beer selection is pretty bad, they had no IPAs when I was there. The customers sitting at the bar were also quite rude to me while I was ordering. Its not a very comfortable place, there are better pool halls in Manhattan.

2022-04-26Decent tables is the only redeeming quality.Prices are crazy, service is bad. I was even charged more than the menu said and told I had to pay the higher price because the menu was wrong. Terrible way to do business.
