The Amsterdam Castle has a Late Victorian style architecture. After an extensive eco-friendly renovation, the then National Guard Armory was transformed into the now Amsterdam Castle Hotel & Restaurant. The hotel has cathedral ceilings, high above the restaurant bar and dining area. A collection of rooms are available on the first and second floors. With many fine pieces of art, knights armor and amazing decor throughout. The John Fitzgerald Kennedy room, is a reminder of days past. A brilliant tribute, for a brilliant man. This is one of central New Yorks hidden gems. I enjoyed my stay in the cozy and comfortable room, and Im sure you will as well. I will have to take the manager up on the dining invitation, to experience the culinary masterpieces they offer. Looking forward to the official notification.
I truly do not understand the negative reviews about the staff being rude and unAvailable or place being dirty. People are ruthless. Is your room not to your liking? Go get help! From our check in, it has been a wonderful experience. The lovely lady who checked us in yesterday was so kind, helpful and sweet and the gentleman who so generously gave me extra butter cookies upon my request was all smiles and giggles when my tired eyes wanted more coffee and cookies! Our room was immaculate and spacious. The room had a kcup coffee maker, plenty of bottled water and of course tea. The outside was well taken care of as well. We look forward to coming back. Cheers!
The hotel was beautiful! Evey part of it was an experience of being in a castle. The room was spacious and the bed very comfortable. I definitely got the smell if bleach when I walked in. I would have given the place a five star if it hadnt been for our dinning experience. We arrived in the dinning room about 6:30 and didnt leave until two hours later and it wasnt because we were having a good time. We were seated quickly, our order was taken quickly however from there it slowed down. It took about 5 minutes before the bread was brought out then 15 minutes after that the salad, then we were watching the waitstaff running back and fourth with dish after dish for almost an hour before we got our food. When we finally got it it was cold. The scallops were not seared at all and a little over cooked. When we asked what took so long we were told that they got a couple of groups in that were ordering steak. I could see the whole dinning room from where I sat and there werent any big parties. Besides if there were a big party ordering why were the waitstaff carrying a dish at a time?!
I was looking for a castle stay experience and luckily found this one. The outside was very cool, loved the look of the castle. The inside was very cool as well. A couple years we went to Scotland and saw some amazing castles there, the feel of this is very similar to those. I thought they did a wonderful job making the entrance and restaurant area look like a true castle setting. and some of the artwork and furniture in the upstairs area were true to the theme as well. The room we had was very spacious. Didn’t necessarily feel like sleeping in a castle but then again I imagine sleeping in a cold dark stone room might not be as luxurious. We were upgraded to a suite when we arrived which was amazing and unexpected. The hotel was very clean and well kept and the room was amazingly clean. The bed was amazingly comfortable as well. We ate at the restaurant one night and the food was delicious. It was very close to the Mohawk Valley Gateway Overlook and a short walk to the Riverlink Park from there.
Quite the unique location, if you find yourself in Amsterdam, NY. The castle is an old armory that has extensive history for the area, including a reading room where JFK gave a campaign speech in 1960. The lobby is large, boasting an eclectic collection of framed art, armor and other medieval styled content. The restaurant had just opened the weekend we were there and thus we decided to dine with them. The chef is knowledgeable and offers a fine dining menu that is worth the average $39 per plate cost. Dinner rolls and salad, which was delightful, were included. The bar was beer and wine only, but has potential of being a place one would want to hang out at once they get up and running soon. The rooms are large and simple. King bed, large screen TV, sizable bathroom and a fridge. Hard wood floors could use an area rug around the bed and the walls some fabrics or drapes to cut down on echo. Sound from outside the room can be a bit of an issue, given the hard wood floors carry sound from the lobby dining area into the first floor rooms. The bathroom, though it is big, has no counter space. Maybe the biggest letdown. We had to put stuff on the floor and out on the desk outside the bathroom. The staff is very pleasant and proud of their establishment. I highly recommend the stay, when you find yourself in the area.
A wonderful experience! The staff is very friendly and helpful. We stayed here after a long day riding our bikes on the Erie canal trail. They offered to keep the restaurant open for us so we could clean up before dinner. They have secure bike storage and a great restaurant. Highly recommended!
Hadn’t been back home in ages...how cool is it that the Armory has had a rebirth...has to be one of the most unique places to stay in upstate. Staff was great and go see for yourself how the beautiful interior and rooms are. It was my wife’s first time to Amsterdam and she couldn’t have been happier.
This place is quite amazing! Who knew such a castle existed in Amsterdam New York?!? The family suites on the first floor are pretty big and amazing lots of room lots of bedrooms bathrooms. The rooms on the second floor are big and spacious very clean. The staff is very kind and helpful and they greet you at the front desk with kindness. The hotel restaurant is still not open yet but they hope it to be open soon.
We had a wonderful stay. The biggest thing to note about Amsterdam Castle was how quiet it was, little traffic on nearby streets and a quiet neighborhood. Our bed was amazingly comfortable, it was one of the best nights sleep Ive had in years. Our room was very large and well appointed, I particularly appreciated that they had an outlet/USB hub on the nightstand. They did a pretty good job on their remodel, I question some of the choices. A decent facade but anyone with an eye for detail might be annoyed by some conspicuous plywood around the fireplace or other small details.Overall, very nice. Friendly staff, good stay.
The building and rooms are great. Thats why we came here The neighborhood looks a little scary, with uncouth characters hanging out down the hill. Our reception Nigel was so rude. We were handed a key, and before we could ask questions, he started serving a couple who had swooped in beside us. We continued to ask about parking safety, since the parking lot is not in a secured area, and he acted indignant, saying vehicles are secure if you lock your doors. We pointed out that windows could be broken. He said, Not here and literally shooed us away with his hand and started talking to the other couple. We were dismissed. We later had to come back to ask about food options because of the way he dismissed us initially. It is required to order for delivery or drive a number of miles since nothing is open on Sundays in the neighborhood (and a lot closed in the town), and the neighborhood is not nice anyway.
Very nice stay at Amsterdam Castle. The place is beautiful, and very very clean. Our room was layer out perfect. Nice large TV opposite the king size bed. Very large bathroom with nice accessories. Covid going on so restaurant and coffee bar not open. We will be back.
So many wonderful things to say about this beautiful castle.Room:Very very clean and new. Comfy bed, bedding, & pillows. Big tv, desk, fridge, coffee maker. Big, bright bathroom with all new fixtures. Room smelled nice.Staff was very friendly and nice.Decor is unique and beautiful. Soft classical music plays in the lobby. Quiet, ornate sitting room upstairs. Ample parking. Cheap price to stay somewhere so awesome.Only suggestion: bring the wonderful medieval decor theme into the rooms. Thanks!🙂
I stayed at the Amsterdam Castle on Sept. 30, 2020. I was coming from Rochester, NY, and it was raining horribly with visibility very bad. My daughter made the reservations for me and I was happy to get out of that storm. The hotel is a former armory and is conveniently located right off the highway. Easy off, easy to get back on. When I checked in I saw the row of knights in their armor lined up and there was all kinds of memorabilia and pictures on the walls. Very interesting! The room was huge and very clean. TV worked well and it was a large, flat screen TV. Finding 2 bottles of spring water was just what I needed. There was a small fridge in the room so they could get cold. When I woke up the next morning I didnt feel well at all and the staff graciously allowed me to stay. Turns out it was a stomach virus and I cant tell you how much I appreciated the staff letting me stay later. I couldnt have driven any earlier than when I left. Thank you to the staff members I spoke with. I appreciate your hospitality so much. There was no breakfast due to the pandemic but thats okay, I couldnt have eaten it, anyway! ;-(Everything was wonderful! Thank you!
Beautiful place lots of charm. We traveled from Portland OR and have spent time in quite a few hotels. For the price it was by far the best hotel weve stayed in. Very large room with lots of character. The bed was super comfortable. They had a keurig with six pods and nice to-go cups with lids. There were bottles of water in the fridge. The HVAC system was quiet and kept the room comfortable without cycling on and off. Nice leather chairs and a sofa. I would definitely stay here again.
Only suggestion for the place is to decorate the rooms in castle decor as well. Offer upgrades. Such as a romantic or special occasion basket. Offer room service. Other than that..it was a unique and amazing experience. So glad we chose this as our hotel for our 1st wedding anniversary.
The rooms were spacious and very clean. The location was very easy to find. The staff was very friendly and knowledge about the area and the wonderfully eclectic decor. This hotel is a must stay and see. I enjoyed a nice walk that too a WW2 remembrance site, walking bridge with historical information and lovely sculptures and nice views of the area. I have already booked my next stay. Bonus. Only a mile or so away is a place called Stewarts It’s a convenience store that sells there own brand of ice cream. Many flavors are original and meaningful to the area- a must try if your not from NY. I hope they move East.
Great old castle and hotel. Very beautiful, clean and stylish inside. The rooms are huge and very clean. They also have a nice restaurant and bar. Only thing is that it closes early, around 9pm. As does most of the town. Plus there isnt much to do in town. Although it is beautiful town with a lovely scenery. Especially in the fall. I was up there for a paranormal event. Do recommend staying at the hotel.
We stayed at the Amsterdam Castle for two nights. It was wonderful! Rooms are new and clean. Bathroom with two sinks and an amazing shower. Beds are really comfortable. It was so much fun! The staff and owner are very kind and helpful. It’s a short walk to the River link park that spans the Mohawk River. We will visit again!
This was a true gem! The place is spectacular! The staff is extremely kind and friendly. The room was spacious, bed comfortable. We had a gourmet meal at their newly opened restaurant. Highly recommend this place as an alternative to the cookie cutter places generally found along the way
Beautiful and comfortable room! Just the perfect place after a long day of biking. The beds were comfortable and the staff was welcoming and generous by letting us use their garage to store our bicycles and use their kitchen microwave as well. The historical background of the building made it all that more interesting.
My husband and I ended up staying the night here after a combination traffic accident and blizzard seriously hindered our would be road trip. At the time, it felt like a drag to be stuck so close to home on a 20 hour drive (were from Boston), but I am SO glad that we got to take a detour and stay at this hotel. The atmosphere was wonderful. The room was homey. The staff was incredibly friendly (and were very accommodating in trying to get us un-snowed in!). The breakfast was really good.I absolutely would recommend staying here if youre in the Amsterdam area!
Old armory converted into a castle like hotel. Very nice and interesting. The decoration is quite well done. You almost feel like youre living in a different time. Lost a star because the breakfast was sad. Worse than one you would get in a cheap motel. They should either serve a proper breakfast or just not bother at all. All in all still a very good experience. Would recommend.
You know that feeling when everything is right - this is what you feel here in Amsterdam Castle. The first place where even the toilet brash is available, huge rooms, clean, amazing spacious bathtub with good powerful water stream in the shower, workers smiling to you without living the feeling of I must smile to you!!! Now this is my favorite place to stay in the area even if Ill come for only one night.
The staff was decent. The food on the other hand was expensive for what you got (example $26 for a jumbo shrimp dinner that had 5pcs of medium sized.) The meals listed in the menu wasnt what I had gotten. Didnt stay at the hotel, so details are unknown. Perhaps theyre just not used to having a company party there. Maybe next time if we choose to go, itll be better.
After many travelling all accross the US ; I was thinking I could not be amazed by a hotel.I mean ; i feel like a little Harry Potter vibes at the Castle !(Ok I dont need much for enjoy...)The place was really clean and perfectly handled.People working there were lovely.I really recommend you to chose this hotel. Dont be affrais to try new things : this one is 100% worth-it !
The Amsterdam Castle is an absolutely beautiful little gem. The rooms are gorgeous, and the decoration is breathtaking. The restaurant allows outsiders to dine in wich is really nice if you dont want to spend the night and just live the experience. The food was delicious but it took an extremely long time to come to the table (there was a big party next to us, so we understand), but the waitress always checked on us to make sure we were fine. There is no souvenir store which I found odd, but I took so many pictures that I can make my own I guess. Definitely recommend it if you want to feel like a royal, or just want to do something special and unique. Loved it ❤
We came across the castle as we where looking for a hotel in that area. My daughter loved the idea of spending the night in a castle! What an amazing place! Beautifully restored, very clean and the owner was very nice and accommodating. Highly recommend this place to anyone!
The room was awesome and enjoyed the stay with my family, but the service lacked. The ice tray was something that came out of a doll house, we ask for ice and were given a ziploc bag of ice. We had to buy more. We decided to have dinner they instead of going downtown Amsterdam, the food was awesome but the service was horrible. I was there before and the waitress was awesome, but this time they had a few dinner guess and she was overwhelmed and went out for smoke breaks... the other waitress, apparently new was not much help. We had to wait twenty minutes just to get asked if we wanted a drink and 15 minutes to get the drink, then forgotten about again...the waitress did apologize but it was too late. I was embarrassed as I told my family how wonderful it would be, and all we did was wait, and feel neglected, which at $280.00 for dinner should not happen. I always tip very well, but due to the service being horrible I left an appropriate tip...$0.00. The poor service continues with no housekeeping and we had to go get extra toilet paper... of course they had no idea what happened it just kept happening. I guess they get upset when you let them know you had bad service and just keep giving you bad to service...
The menu was limited. Only one salad or one soup to choose from. Some people got 4 small biscuits per couple, but most of us didnt get any kind of bread. You either give to all or dont give at all. The wines were limited to one brand unless you wanted a very expensive bottle. The entrees were fabulous, but pricy.
This place is great. Super nice, very large rooms, interesting architecture and history, a very friendly and helpful owner. And details thought out well, like having enough towels, a really nice bathroom with dual sinks!, and perfect water temperature in the shower, lovely sheets and a ton of space in the room makes for a really relaxing stay.
The inside of this place is incredible. Even just walking through it is an experience and a half. On top of that you get a very spacious room for cheaper than any chain hotel will get you, nice location in Amsterdam which has some great restaurants youll get lost trying to drive to, and the owner is a sweet guy who will cater to specifically your needs. I definitely will be coming back here to admire this place many times in the future.
This was the best hotel Ive ever visited, abroad or in the States. The rooms are immaculate, the service is wonderful. Its quiet, private and clean. Of course, best of all, you get the experience of staying in a real Castle. The history can be felt there, even from President Kennedy. Its walking distance to the bridges and park of Amsterdam, which have a history of their own. A worthwhile visit to a special, unique experience and town.
Originally a National Guard Armory, the Castle has been sympathetically renovated by the owner. the rooms are large and spacious with excellent en suite facilities. the breakfast was not to my taste, far to sweet. Enjoyed the art work in the main hall. Good base for exploring the Mohawk valley.
We did the tour. It was lame and disappointing. The building was beautiful. It was $25 per person. There was food and wine. That was nice but we wanted to know the history behind the castle and decorations. Not one employee could answer the simplest question. The artwork was dry wall screwed to the walls. What a rip off. We have done many castle tours and this one couldnt compare. Skip this tour.
Just checked out of the Amsterdam Castle. Wow. What a place. Nigel was wonderful. The rooms were super spacious and very clean. The most reasonably priced Castle in the country. And Ive stayed in a few. If you are ever in the area of Amsterdam Ny. This is a must. Thanks again Amsterdam Castle for a great experience and making sure that we felt like family. Cheers
Our room was spacious with a king and queen. An additional sitting room, large bathroom and mini fridge. The castle is so cool. The owners were very accommodating. We were bike riding on the Erie Canal bike trail and they stored our bikes for us. The breakfast in the morning was a very nice as well. This was a hidden gem.
We had a girls 2 night stay at the Castle..we had the suite..it was large and spacious..we needed a table to play mahjongg and Nigil, owner, got us one Castle is very clean and service is wonderful..continental breakfast, included in room, was delicious..I will definitely return in the summer. Owner, Nigel, is very accommodating.
Place is DOPE. I mean come on, its a CASTLE. If you dont like this place stay home forever. Lock your door and never come out. Stunning visuals. Beautiful artwork everywhere. Staff was super friendly and helpful. If there was a 6th star this place would get it. Inside the rooms you got a super comfy bed, banging 50 inch TV, two sinks, WHO NEEDS TWO SINKS?? They dont care, you get it anyway. Couldnt be happier with my stay. 10/10 Would recommend.
Unfriendly front desk gentleman to start. Room is lovely, however bathroom trash wasn’t emptied from last guests and walls are paper thin. Listened to children running around and other guests conversations past 9:30pm. Then best part, guest next door snored heavily all night and may as well have been in our room. I will NEVER come back here.
I had a recent stay at the Amsterdam castle. Susan and her husband (sorry forgot his name) were fantastic accommodating hosts. Super friendly and informative. The castle itself is full of history and a comfortable, roomy, and just a fun place to stay. Breakfast was fresh, filling and presented in a great setting in the castle. Try something different than the standard hotel/motel. If you want a friendly atmosphere with owners who care about your stay try The Castle.
A Gem and a true Five Star facility ,I have seen many 5-star hotels with their perks & add ons ,but they come no way close to this ,although I did not see any mention of ratings on the hotel website ,I presume they have left it to the public to decide as perhaps it should be so. I SHALL RETURN.
If I could give no stars I would! DO NOT BOOK A ROOM HERE! Let me just start off by saying this place is beautiful. It is the customer service that is horrible! My fiancé and I are having a very traditional wedding we are getting married in a church and our reception is in a big ball room in Saratoga Springs. We wanted to stay in a nice hotel the night before and we came across this one. We were intending on booking TWO SUITES one for him and his groomsmen and one for me and my bridesmaids. We wanted to get ready here and take our before photos. When we arrived at the castle we walked in and there was no one at the front desk. We waited until finally a man came out and he was rude right from the start no hello or welcome just a do you need something. We told him what we wanted and how we wanted to tour the rooms. He said we don’t book to brides unless they are renting our place for their wedding he said it’s not good PR. He was rude and said if we did rent we would not be allowed to take photos because it’s not fair to the brides that rent that venue for their wedding. He was not friendly in the entire 15 minute conversation we had. If you are a business in the wedding industry you would think that you would want people to take photos of your place and want to get ready there even if you aren’t getting married at that particular spot for the PR. I would never recommend this place to anyone not even to stay in for a night. I grew up in Amsterdam and it’s sad that such an iconic building in Amsterdam has such rude and horrible owners.
We just spent a few days at the Castle. The castle is very impressive. Especially the main hall. The artwork is incredible. The castle is managed (in fact I think owned) by Nigel and his wife, Leslie. Both are very friendly and accommodating. The room we stayed in was lovely. We had reserved a suite for a girls getaway. A suggestion would be that there be two bathrooms for a suite of this size. Also a grab bar would be helpful since there is not a walk in shower but rather a large size tub that you have to lift your legs up quite high to get in. We did mention this to Nigel and he said that a few of the rooms are handicapped access. The continental breakfast was lovely but much too sweet for my taste. Pastries, oatmeal, muffins, coffee, juice. The castle is definitely a place to enjoy. They are diligently working to make this castle a gem for weddings, special events or just a nights stay. I wish them much success in this endeavor.
Horrible experience on my wedding day. I checked in the day before my wedding on a Friday with my wedding dress, flower girl and maid of honor and spoke to the owner myself and explained that we booked the room for 2 nights so myself and 4 girls could get ready for my wedding, the only ones staying overnight would be myself and my groom. asked him about having my photographer take pictures around the castle of myself and 4 girls, the owner said no problem and even tried to upgrade us to bigger room because it was my wedding. needless to say the first night my dress was the only thing that stayed in the room.( we stayed home) the next day my bridal party came to the room to get ready and thats when the horrible experience began. we asked for ice and was told there was ice trays in the mini fridge. well we needed more ice, asked for some more and was given a zip lock bag with some ice and was told thats it no more ice, then someone in my wedding party was told by the owner people pay thousands of dollars for a wedding here and we only rented a room also my photographer was told something similar. well of course I was told about this and I had to have a conversation with the owner on my wedding day in my wedding dress about how rude he treated my wedding party. I asked why did he tell me the day before there was no issues then the day of my wedding be so rude? well the owners tells me that my wedding party was not very honorable for telling me because he said to tell me after the wedding and its kinda hard to say no to someones face. Im so disgusted with my experience at this beautiful place on my wedding day. its a very beautiful place but terrible terrible customer service. I have never been treated so rude at a place I paid to stay at. I would understand if I just took went and did what I wanted BUT because I spoke the the owner and explained my intentions the day before makes this experience horrible. so I will never forget my experience at this place.
This is definitely not a 5 star hotel. The man at the front desk was sure to tell me several times it was a 5 star hotel and the website references it as well. The gentleman at the front desk needs to take a lesson is customer service, he was (undeservedly) condescending and rude and kept telling me how much everything costs and only people from Manhattan could afford it. Incidentally, the rooms are priced less than most cheap chain hotels. Delusional! Cute idea for a hotel but they have a long way to go in terms of customer service and amenities if this business is going to sustain itself.
Beautiful, large, clean suite, comfortable beds, large bathroom with full size tub to relax! Yogurts, fresh fruit and large pastries, variety of teas and coffee for free continental breakfast. The decor is so unique, it takes you back to a place in history, the Kennedy room upstairs, its another time in history. The woodwork is beautiful, unique pieces of furniture, Nigel is such a professional everything was so clean, well taken care of! It was a wonderful experience! I highly recommend going. I know we will be going again. I give it a 10 out of 10.
Charming! Hospitable staff attended to every one of our needs. Newly renovated rooms and a one-of-a-kind great hall arranged with suits of armor. Breakfast included items baked by the owners mother (who worked as a pastry chef), and others from a local orchard. Overlooks a number of great restaurants on the South Side. A quick stroll to the walking bridge over the Mohawk River. Great experience overall!
Okay, its a freakin elegant CASTLE! We were two retired couples cycling the Erie Canal Towpath and had a slight logistical issue. We needed a place to stay and it was getting dark. It was only a wee bit more expensive than the chain motels we had to use two nights, but it was SPECTACULAR!. They secured our bikes for us and guided us to a wonderful dinner just out the front door of the CASTLE. A highlight of our trip. Wonderful hot shower. Good breakfast before heading out and plenty of space to stretch our road-weary muscles and relax in wonderfully soft sofas. I swear, one sofa is like 20 long. The art on the walls was worthy of a great museum. Worth every penny and then some. If you are planning to cycle the ECT, put this on your must see list.
The building is historic and the owner has done a wonderful job of updating enough to make it look immaculate yet preserving the original architecture. My husband grew up here so he knows restaurants and bars you can walk to from here. The walking bridge is only a couple of blocks away and brings history to life as you stroll across it. The rooms are spacious, and nicely appointed. Many rooms have lovely views as the property sits upon a hill. The owner/manager is truly a nice human being who loves the area and the idea of preserving history. What a unique place and a wonderful experience. Our family wishes him well. We recommend the Amsterdam Castle to anyone.
This was quite a pleasent surprise! When I greeted my wife at the parking lot after checking in I saidyou will not believe this place. Walking through the doors to see the great hall with a mix of original and reproduced art work is spectacular. The host took time to give us a tour of the upstairs reading rooms including couches where JFK and his brother discussed whether to continue the campaign. Even with out historical significance furniture, china and interior is unspeakable in its restoration. We will be backPatrick
The Amsterdam Castle (hotel), is the most amazing place to stay. The original castle is 150 years old and much has been preserved, including the Kennedy Room, dedicated to Senator / President Kennedy who presented a speach to the people in the very room in the army operated Amstredam Castle. The very large, stylish hotel rooms are excellent modern facilities, decorated in keeping with the era. The beds are most comfortable. The contintal breakfast is very good. We loved the castle style and extensive art collections. Now in private ownership, this is superb.
If youre looking for a delightful one of a kind experience, reasonably priced as well...check into the Amsterdam Castle in Amsterdam, NY. Amsterdam, exit 27 on the NY State Thruway, has long been a bedroom community to Albany, the state Capital. Centrally located, you are less than an hour from adventures in Albany, Saratoga, The Adirondack Mountains, the Great Sacandaga Lake, Auriesville Shrine & a couple hours from Cooperstown & wine country in Western NY State. Also biking along the Erie Canal is trip back into history.Every detail of the castle is first class... Comfy big beds, large rooms, a yummy continental breakfast, a spacious shower & and a kind & accommodating staff. The nicest surprise for me was meeting the owner, Nigel, a gracious gentleman who takes such pride in his castle & offering his guests wonderful service.Just steps from the Castle is some of the finest Italian food youll ever taste at The Armory Grill.

2022-05-21What an absolutely beautiful place to stay. The rooms were clean as well as quiet with new bathrooms. The great room is simply breathtaking! Beautifully decorated with knights armor, Dutch artwork, and gargoyles. I felt like a princess!

2022-05-27Talk about a historic treasure in the middle of an unexpected area of NY! Take a step back in time and experience castle living. The room was wonderful and the bedding was super comfortable. It was a beautiful hotel. Due to an unexpected situation we did not get to experience the gorgeous dining area but it was certainly pretty to look at while we were there.

2022-05-02This is a cute little castle in the country side that is very quiet with large rooms and beds. The place is kept clean (including bathrooms) and the staff is super friendly, however, don’t expect a normal hotel experience. Starting with the check-in, the entrance is somewhere on the side and not in the front. It was hard to find it in the evening especially when you come with luggage. The rooms are spacious and bathrooms are clean which was great! However, the night got too hot and the AC was disabled due to the fear of AC units freezing. I don’t think its fair to keep it disabled in April/May because that isn’t freezing weather. We could not sleep most of the night due to how hot it was and I would not have guessed that windows can be opened since we’re not used to this in hotels normally. To add to this inconvenience, the telephones don’t have the ability to call the operator directly. The property has regular landline phones and additional headsets are distributed in the rooms. We have to call the hotel main number to reach the staff and I was in no position to do that in the middle of the night. Also, the hotel doesn’t provide breakfasts and when asked, their response was to support local businesses around instead. Maybe the restaurant should provide vouchers/coupons for us to use at these local businesses because the rooms aren’t cheap for such limited service. All in all, while the staff is nice and friendly, if you have no reason to stay in this area/country side, I would definitely suggest to try another place because there are some inconveniences here and doesn’t help while traveling for business.

2022-02-27Great place to go and relax. Comfortable beds, very clean. Restaurant great experience. Take time to check out the photos in great hall. Was hard to find winter parking lot, but once we did all freindly and helpful. Very calming, was what I needed, decompress.

2022-01-15Thankful & grateful for a quiet nights rest ! Cute place to stay . During the winter parking is in the back off of Perkins street . Check in is clearly labeled and marked (you enter in through the dining hall and proceed straight to the check in booth on the left). Felt good to stay in a room that felt more like home and less like a hotel! This was the first sparkling clean Keurig machine I was actually able to use (and felt safe doing so). K-cups , creamer and coffee cups provided . Delicious cookies in the room and 4 bottles of water ! Decent size fridge ! Besides some dust, room was clean . Bed was comfortable . And being a road warrior traveling nurse I was so incredibly grateful for peace and quiet (only 3 other cars in the lot during my nights stay) . Lovely place to explore . The room / castle had such a relaxing energy to it :) . Plenty of food options located near by if the restaurant is closed .

2022-05-05Very beautiful place from the inside and out. Really quiet and enjoyable to be in, along with the rooms themselves being very nice and spacious. The only minor issue we came across are that guests in ither rooms could be heard (even snoring!) So it became a bit bothersome in night time.Overall, a great place to stay!

2021-12-13The room was awesome and the hotel decor was like none other in the area. Parking is not on the block GPS takes you too and nobody mentions this with a sign or when reservations are made. Thats just a friendly tip for anyone booking themselves a cool castle stay. The food service is confusing and very expensive. We never ended up ordering from the castle because the menu was small and not appealing to us. We enjoyed the room tho. Comfy bed and large TV. Windows crank open as well. Huge plus.

2022-01-22This beautiful castle looked like a cool experience. It was very clean. And thats where it ended. The mattresses were garbage, one of the most uncomfortable beds I have ever slept on. Well, tried to sleep, but there were no curtains, so I was up with the sun. We went to the restaurant, where they wanted $48 for a filet mingon, (fine) that was only served medium well. After a long drive, this was not a restful break.

2022-05-28Very comfortable and quiet, courteous staff, efficient. No issues with the hotel itself. The choice businesses were on the other side of the river meaning a long walk or vehicle use though you could get pub fare and beer nearby.
