Anchor Bar in other cities:
Average (airport) bar; not up to real Anchor Bar standards. Gets the job done but don’t get too excited. Definitely overpriced because of its location (airport) and “fame.”Had the Buffalo Chicken Dip app and some cocktails. The dip was reheated and inconsistently so, but still pretty good, and the tortilla chips were not stale (unlike a lot of other airport bar-style places). The drinks sounded better than they were, but at least they had a cocktail list, so give them some credit.Buffalo “International” Airport is *very* limited on dining options and this might be the best, so worth a shot.
Shameless cash grab by Anchor (but thats pretty much their whole game anyway, capitalizing on their story of being the first wings in buffalo and charging an outrageous price for their mediocre sauced wings) operated by Delaware North. Only real bar in Buffalo Niagara Airport which is a shame. That being said theyre getting 3 stars solely on the friendliness of the bartender I had this time. (James? 🤷♂️) Good dude, personable, deftly handled a busy bar and was engaging with everyone.
Im giving it a rating of 3 stars only because two things on the menu you can only order a 5 piece chicken wing order. Theres no option for 10,15 or 20 piece wing and they only have spicy BBQ sauce and my fiance who is expecting regular flavored barbecue sauce didnt enjoy her chicken fingers coated in the spicy sauce I need to specify that. Otherwise service and the rest of the food was great.
If your looking for a place in the airport to get good wings with some good sauces try out this place. For the airport it’s a cool little bar. I didn’t have the wings but my co worker did and he said they were decent. I had the veggie burger and it had a good flavor to it. I definitely could see me getting a drink here for sure though if I wasn’t on the clock for work.
Legendary names come with expectations. The Anchor Bar, as the originator of Buffalo wings should be a step up from average. We shared an Anchor salad and the Buffalo platter, basically wings and beef on weck. The wings were ok, done properly, just nothing special. The beef was dry (overcooked) and the weck roll was obnoxiously salty. I skipped the roll and just dipped the meat. Besides this, we discovered a quirk. We always have double margaritas when we travel, and ordered their Cadillac margarita. We were told it comes as a double, standard. Neither of us bought that argument, but we also couldnt order an enhancement shot because we couldnt have more than 2 drinks in front of us. Not happy. 3 stars is probably generous.
Reasonable price as a Airpot restaurant in buffaloIf you are early for your flight, you can go and spend your time with you beers and amazing chicken wings and soupsAlso they do have some combo special which can make you feel good ..8 out of 10 for the foodAnd behavior 7 out of 10 🌚
Fantastic. Excellent Service and the Best Beef on Weck that I have ever had. And I try it everywhere because its my native cuisine. The cooking staff is brand new, and some people were in too much of a hurry. This is Great Food not Fast Food. Quality takes some time. The bar tender was too notch too. I just had a Modelo Especial Beer.
Wings were crispy after requesting extra crispy. Suicide wings were good with a unique flavor and not too hot at all. Wings were decent sized, comparable to Duffs. Staff was nice. Ridiculous that you need to pay $3 for all drums or all flats. Was highly disappointed that they didnt have pizza logs here.
The Original wing place, did not disappoint, even at the airport! I had good food and good service. The wings were cooked perfectly, crispy, but not dried out, with a good traditional sauce. I had fries, which were okay, but average. Hand cut, homemade fries would have received 5 stars, hands down. If youre in BUF stop in.
Ive been to the original on main st and now this one. The experience in buffalo wasnt the greatest and this time around was similar. We ordered wings in medium sauce. Being from buffalo Ive had all sorts of wings but im not a fan of too hot and these medium were hotter than anything Ive ever had before. I ate one and my mouth was on fire. After talking with the waitress apparently several customers have been complaining of the same problem. After my second attempt here,i know there wont be a third. I give 2 stars due to the fact that the management apologized. Oh i almost forgot to mention the hair in the cheeseburger.
If not for the bartender, Gary, I would give them a 1 star. Sign says wait to be seated, but no one ever came to seat us. Bartender told us just to sit anywhere. 10 minutes later, after no wait staff ever came, we sat at the bar and had a good meal with great service. We watched as 3 servers and a manager allowed 5 other people to stand around waiting for a table. 3 left, 1 sat at the bar and the another sat herself. When we left about 5 minutes later the person who sat herself still had no server. They literally did whatever they could do to avoid work... mostly talk. I think it was the worst service I’ve ever seen.
Chose the anchor bar at the airport because we were in buffalo and wanted wings. The food was good alittle over priced and there was not the ability to buy only 5 or 6 wings. Had to buy ten. When we asked for straws. Our waiter asked us how many we wanted and showed us the anchor bar policy on every table about saving the environment by decreasing the plastic. That would have been fine but when they delivered our meals they threw down a bunch of napkins and PLASTIC knives and forks! Really. So the policy sounded good but not truly acted on. Finally couldnt get waiter back to table to refill drinks or get bill. Good food bad organization at least in this location.
The Anchor Bar is the birthplace of the delicious Buffalo Wings (thank you!) so when we saw it at the airport it was a must try for us. The restaurant/bar was semi busy but no one was at hostess desk to seat people and we waited a good 10+ minutes and the servers and other employees who were on the floor did nothing but watch us all stand around and wait.... booh! My husband and I both ordered Buffalos Best Combo which is Beef On Weck and 5 wings (choice of heat/flavor) The beef on weck was roast beef on a salted roll with horseradish and au jus on the side. The roast beef was a bit tough and dry and didnt look to appetizing. The wings (medium) were excellent! Service by Matt was fast and friendly. Would return for the wings and maybe try something else (if someone is at the hostess desk LOL!)
Perfect place to eat when looking for below average food at exorbitant prices. Almost $15 for 10 extremely uninspiring wings. Over $9 for a 12 oz beer. Staff looked dejected and ready to cry. Not even the acrid stench of special suicidal sauce could overpower the mediocracy and misery lingering in the air. This despite additional cost of $0.25 per already remarkably overpriced shred of chicken carcass. Patronize at your own risk.
Food is average bar food for a captive audience at an airport. I have not found any really good options at the BUF Airport. Service was also average; our server started out very attentive and then disappeared and we had to track her down to get our check. I will grab a meal outside of the airport in the future.
Had the anchor platter with a side salad and a small beer. Besides being extremely expensive [even for airport food], the chicken was ok, the salad with ranch was totally flavorless and the fries were not much better. The beer was good.Would have gave them a solid 2, but for the ridiculous bill...
Wings here are ok. I ordered the hot and there was hardly any flavor or heat. My wife got the medium and it was worse than the hot. We settle for Buffalo Wild Wings when we are desperate for wings, but this place was worse. I guess I expected more from a place claiming to be the originator of the buffalo wings. But the wings werent tiny and the cup of blue cheese was large.
What do you get when youre in Buffalo NY? Buffalo wings of course! We were so lucky that we actually sat down and had lunch here. I had the combo that came with a sandwich and 5 wings (spicy bbq). The sandwich came with a little dipping sauce and really hit the spot and the wing flavor was delicious. It wasnt too wet, but packed great flavor. My wife had the sampler combo that came with 5 wings - hot, 6 boneless bites - sweet bbq, and 3 cheese sticks. The hot was on point not too much vinegar. The sweet bbq was way too wet, but still good. The food came out quickly and we had plenty of time to board our flight. It ended up being a life saver because our flight ended up being delayed almost 4 total hours and without this hearty meal we would have been very HANGRY!
Probably the easiest way to try great wings when moving through the Buffalo Niagara airport. Also, its worth mentioning that real Western New Yorkers dip their wings in Blue Cheese NOT ranch, so if you want a REAL local wings experience, try em with blue cheese! Ranch dressing is for salads. 😂
My daughter and I were significantly delayed at airport. We needed to eat. She has severe allergy(anaphylaxis) to milk products. We explained it when ordering a plain grilled chicken breast and fries. The girl up front went to kitchen and told them of her allergy. Reassured us they would not use butter, etc. Well, we went back to our gate and ate. Found out that our conecting flight ws cancelled and had no way home. While I was in a line of at least 60 people trying to rebook, my daughter starts having anaphylaxis reaction!! Starts vomiting violently, welts and rash and cant breathe. Seriously, it was a simple plain chicken breast. It made a bad situation of being stranded there much, much worse. I would give them 0 stars but it wont let me.
My fav one. I like their suicide chicken wings. Spicy and I love it. You guys should try the desert, Vanila Ice cream with caramel and fried apple pie. Indonesian people will say Juuuwwwaaarrraaaakkk!!!! it means the best. I like everything in this bar. Onion ring, Oh my God!!! Love it SO MUCH!
Stopped at this location while waiting for my departing flight from Buffalo airport.I lived in Buffalo for a few years while going to UB (University of Buffalo) and I developed a taste for buffalo wings during that time. So when ever I return to the Buffalo area I have to satisy my craving. However, to this day I am not sure who I favor for my choice of THE best buffalo wings between duffs or the anchor bar.Stopped in while my flight was delayed due to freezing rain and my meal was on the fabulous JetBlue airlines as a courtesy. Service was prompt and the waitress was very friendly...well it was after midnight and there were plenty of empty tables so there would be no reason for delayed service. The wings were exactly what I remember and did not disappoint.
The wings were good but my god this is buffalo and the beef on weck had the worst weck I have ever tasted. Youd think theyd know what a weck is around here. Salt and caraway on a horrible roll does not make a kummelweck. At least I know to look elsewhere for food when at the BUF airport. If they cant do buffalo fare right, id assume the same with the rest.
Came here with my family (2 kids under 3) and they had a while back room open but it was blocked off. When we asked if they had a table they said no, we then asked if we could sit in the back area and instead of just having one of the waiters serve us back there they rudely walked past us while saying they didnt have a waiter for the area and didnt offer us any alternatives.Horrible service

2021-09-16Great spot for wings at the airport, kinda pricey but very good. Right now u can only get the 5 wing combo / fries. U cant add any more wings to order because they said theres a wing shortage. But I can order the combo 5xs. Lol Still a must stop when leaving Buffalo airport

2022-05-14The wings were very good, got a little soggy for the last few. Blue cheese dressing very good. Probably not as good as the original anchor bar but way better than most airport food.

2022-03-15I’m confused on the high rating, besides convenience in the terminal since not much is open right now.I wanted real buffalo wings to take back to nyc, so I stopped in.I sat at the counter facing the terminals and the server arrived quickly but I noticed after I ordered the next table he sat he went down a whole script of specials and soups, I didn’t get that welcome..Anywho, The menu that’s posted on here is outdated, they won’t let you purchase wings only, they have you buy a 5pc combo with fries for $15. So I paid $30 for 10 wings and some dry a** fries. They are not worth that— LaNova’s and Franco’s is way better. First and Last time here.

2020-06-21The wings were good. The rest of the food was ok. Drinks were good. Our server didnt take any dirty dishes away. So our table never got cleaned. The utensils were plastic.(I visited before pandemic spread) I guess that caring for the environment is not a priority. Overall not bad not great experience.

2020-02-26This is the second time I’ve flown out of this airport to take advantage of a cheaper flight even with the long term parking fee added.I find it less stressful going through check-in and customs. It’s a nice airport and has a good food court with enough options to satisfy most travellers. I head directly to the Anchor Bar!I ordered 10 original wings $14.50 plus an unsweetened ice tea. Good service and food.
