Adopted our beautiful fur baby Suits from here! They treat the animals so well and are lovely people. Thank you for everything that you do!Update: Our boy is so lovable and thriving. When you adopt from ACC you are literally saving a life. We couldnt have asked for a better fur baby!
If I could give zero stars, I would. This place tries to make you keep an animal no matter the danger theyre in. A lady Cynthia called me after I filled out a form on the website to surrender a cat and informed them that I took the cat from a lady who was going to throw it on the streets. I had no plans in keeping the cat as I have a large Doberman pit who wouldnt get along with her as she did another cat we had when she was a puppy. Cynthia wanted me to force the cat to remain in my home and did not care about its safety to take her in. I had to take other measures to get her to better. This center does not truly care about animals. I really believed they did and they lie like they really care for homeless and abandoned animals but they dont. They will try and talk you into keeping a pet if you want to surrender so dont bother with them. Take other actions to rehome.
I got this perfect girl from here, they were so nice and welcoming. They explain everything to you about being a new owner to a dog, any specially if you have a dog already they explain what you might have to do to get them together. One small thing that some of the staff said do not say is do not bring your dog if you have one already and then trying to get a new one. Cuz you have to travel back home separately, so no fights go on in the car

Very good animal shelter, we are fostering our potential dog from here. Their appointment making system is wonderful, we just had a visit with the vet in nycacc and she was very compassionate and even came outside to give us more info on our dog (very sweet of her). The foster care team (Tash) replies promptly and so does the nurse. Our dog is very sweet just as they described, they gave us all the supplies needed and we can even request more if needed.We were originally supposed to get another foster dog but she got adopted by the time we reached there, and Tash gave us more options to foster and here we are with our sweet June (our dog) :)!They even do cremations for animals and all welcome surrendering animals (which why would u!?)Overall very good animal shelter and plz foster/ adopt from here coz they never euthanize animals so they have manyyyy dogs that need a home!
The final resting place for my Best friend. They were amazing in making me feel loved and compassionate. They even sent me a card with my Puffy s prints to remember himBy. Puffy is gone but hes never forgotten.Thanks ACC. Please give to them. They are Angels 😇😇😇.
Excellent. Adopted my new kitty and was provided great customer service by Demi which included both email and telephone follow up. Always good and wonderful cats of all sizes and breeds. Adopt dont shop.❤️

The Animal Care Center is an incredible Organization. Surrendering my kitten was the most difficult thing I had to do, but the ACC team members were compassionate, patient and professional. This place is a gem. I cannot say enough great things about the ACC. Special shout out to Cynthia from ACC Brooklyn who was my guardian angel. Much love

They euthanize perfectly healthy animals when people are unable to adopt locally. A handful of people were offering to take Luna who lived out of state, and with over $2,000 in pledges which would cover the transport plus some that should have been a no brainer. Instead they euthanized a perfectly healthy 2 year old pitbull who was surrendered and abandoned by her family. Absolutely disgusting!
Got my sweet lazy boy from here! Adopting Horizon was the best decision ever :) Process was easy and everyone was very nice
The experience was great , the staff members was Friendly it just sad they didnt have a cat that was in good health conditions that I could adopt . I understand times are hard but fighting this mice are harder . I would recommend everyone to here and save a animal life and give it a good home 🏡.
ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE WHAT THIS OLA E DID TO BONDED BROTHERS! BEWARE!!!!!!❌We officially terminate our partnership with ACC New Hope Animal Care Centers of NYC (ACC)as we are not willing to continue to work with an unjust system.❌Dear friends, animal lovers, and all rescues:We would like to inform all publicly about an incident that took place at Manhattan ACC between 03/17-03/18/2022 with Strays Hope for Life cat “Tom”, ACC #138169, who was surrendered by an unknown person (not the original adopter) to this high kill shelter, along with his brother, Jerry. MACC adopted out Tom ❗️“in error” ❗️without allowing the legal holding period to expire, and with the knowledge that Tom was registered by Home Again Microchip to SHFL Rescue. Prior to Tom’s adoption, MACC had been informed that SHFL would immediately take Tom back to their possession from MACC the moment the “holding period” expired and Tom could be relinquished to the rescue.On March 17, 2022 at 1:58 pm we received an email from MACC New Hope team, stating two of our cats, Tom 138169 and Jerry 138167, were surrendered to MACC by an individual. All of our cats are microchipped to SHFL to ensure the cats would be returned back to us in the event that they are lost, dumped by the owners, or surrendered to a shelter. We responded to this email on 3/17/2022 at 2:10 pm stating we were going to take BOTH of OUR cats back ASAP and asked what time we could pick them up. We were told, since the cats were not surrendered by their original adopters, they would need to reach out to them first and would let us know. Again, the cats are microchipped to SHFL and we are the original owners ( the screenshots from the Home Again account were attached to the emails). 3/17/2022 at 4:35 pm we were told the hold should be released very soon and both of our cats would be placed in our name and released to SHFL.3/18/2022 at 1:50 pm we were informed by that the hold was released and Jerry 138167 was in our name, but Tom 138169 was transferred to the Adoption center and already was adopted out in ERROR! This is absolutely unacceptable. ACC had no right to adopt out our cat, whom we claimed within 12 minutes of the original email. They blamed a “brand new” adoption counselor as if that justifies this mistake (if you go for the surgery and brand new doctor cut the wrong part of your body, the doctor is still liable even if new). We asked MACC to return our cat ASAP but were able to pick up only Jerry. Not only did MACC misplace our cat, but also split bonded brothers who had never been apart since they were born three years ago. In addition to Tom’s adoption to the general public by MACC, and their inaction to correct this error, they then proceeded to remove Tom’s microchip from SHFL’s private Home Again account without SHFL consent.Poor Jerry is completely distressed, crying nonstop, looking for his brother and refuses to eat. We have asked that MACC contact the person they adopted Tom to in order to facilitate his return to his brother and SHFL rescue.ACC New Hope supervisors and staff have been emailed multiple times asking for help to have Tom returned to be reunited with his bonded sibling, but all emails have gone ignored.How many other cats and dogs have been failed by ACC errors only to be swept under the rug? How many owners and caretakers have been left heartbroken and discarded by ACC carelessness and apathy to their errors?
I recently had the terrible experience of finding a badly injured, abandoned but still friendly cat. I brought him to the ACC, and they were so kind and compassionate. The cat couldnt be saved due to the extent of his wounds, but they gave him a humane end. I know the ACC tried to place as many pets as they can in loving homes.

Love the place, staff are so loving, understanding and caring.. the downside is there is no parking near by.. I tried and tried to find parking, I ended up parking in a company driveway to surrendering a end of life 23 year young, female cat 🐈
My dog and I have been happily together for almost four years now Thanks you to the ACC. You work miracles and I appreciate that you work as hard as you do. My dog is a joy who has changed my life and opinion of pit bull breads overall. He’s the most emotionally in tune and calm animal that I’ve ever met and a near perfect dog overall. (Would you believe someone tied him to a poll in the Bronx and left him to die?). I’d like to do more than speak to that that individual but overall must be thankful as it brought the dog to me. Figaro, the dog, came home with me from the shelter many years ago and unfortunately after only a day came down with pneumonia, becoming very sick. It is always a worry that a dog may catch kennel cough or worse especially after being “fixed”. In any case the ACC covered the emergency costs of the treatment and hospitalization. This act of kindness has always stayed with me and I’ve worked everyday to pay it back in small ways by taking care of this beautiful creature. Figaro has enjoyed the snow, the beach, flown on over 20 commercial flights across the country, swims hard and plays soccer like a champ. It’s nearing time to adopt another I think. I would NEVER pay for an animal and never encourage it when so many beautiful souls are waiting desperately at the ACC for a home
I know have one of the best dogs ever his sweet gets along with other dogs well and his adjustment was also great.
So glad to adopt my first cat Luna here！！Employees and volunteers are very professional and patient. Now almost 2 months passed and Luna grow stronger lol，and she sleeps with us every night and stays with us often😊😊😊
Waited an hour to see adoption animals and they refused to let us see any small dogs without an appointment. They are the worst.
I adopted my dog Max from here. Nice staff, very helpful. My new dog that was given to me got sick and I took her to the animal care center and they are helping her. Im very thankful.
Supervisor that I meet due to my dog being poisoned was very unprofessional and rascal uncourteous in handling the situation. Would not recommend they don’t stand for animal rights killing cats and dogs. Poor service from the management but the team that handle the animals are very gentle, extremely professional

I’ve been a large dog foster for ACC for years, and recently adopted my (23rd) foster from them. They are truly the most compassionate, amazing people I’ve ever met. Absolutely committed to the wellbeing of all animals. Thank you for everything that you do for this community, ACC!!!
Wonderful staff especially Danielle Miranda. She was very helpful and explains every details about the cat and the adoption. Danielle also advised me about the food and the cat medical. Thanks to Danielle Miranda I was able to take home a beautiful cat name Sentry. We love him already!
My friend adopted a dog in december at the east harlem center and we were not expecting the experience or services we got. Im not one to write reviews but I feel like I must being that this place has a bad rap. We were blown away by the service we got from the staff members there, they are KIND, CARING and SPECIFIC with you on the animals. I wish that I could remember the name of the main girl who helped us because she was absolutely incredible she was the behavioralist supervisor there. She was extremely helpful and knowledgable. She was truthfully listening to what we were saying too. We appreciated the honesty coming from her, you dont get that everywhere, a lot of places push animals on you but you could tell she wanted to make sure we were comfortable and we were. Everyone was genuinely happy for us when we made it official too, you could tell theres a lot of love here and I want to make sure others know it.Thank you so much acc, we appreciate you and your amazing caring staff. You guys are angels.
I had a great experience with the staff. Very pleasant. We had to euthanized our Yorkie, Mickey. They made it smoothe and easy process. We have been coming here for our services for our previous animals. Parking is not great if you coming by car. Need to make sure someone comes with you and stays in the car.
I adopted my beautiful dog from here, however their system is completely ridiculous and none of their employees besides Jacqueline and the male manager are compassionate and know what they are doing. Do not use the app to look to see if a dog is available, it is not updated frequently and I lost the dog I wanted waiting like that. Also some ppl say don’t call to check pet availability status, you absolutely can call, that is not true. Tip: Small dogs are what everyone wants so if you are looking to adopt a small dog come at 9am, with your application filled out and documents ready, even though they open at 12pm for adoptions, IT IS FIRST COME, FIRST SERVE, EVEN IF THEY LEAVE A “NOTE” saying you’re interested in getting a particular dog the day before, It doesn’t matter unfortunately. They WILL give your dog, that you were noted as interested in their “records”, away to someone else just simply because they arrived before you which is horrible! Anyways, the one star is to praise my dog Bangle James Windham, whom I found there and not for the shelter. He’s too good for that place and is in such better care now.
The saddest day of my life was when I had to surrender my dog due to aggressive behavior. The staff there is very caring and when I broke down during the process they were very empathetic to my situation.
They helped me with my budgie who died...ugh such nice staff and left feeling better because of hiw compassionate they are.
On 10/2/21, I went to the Manhattan Animal Care Center on 110th street to start the adoption process for cats in need. I checked out the website and called several times to ask about the adoption process (which I didnt find on the website), but no one answered the phone. So I decided to just go in person. When I got to this shelter, “Sarah” (if that’s her real name) had just finished talking to another client when I asked her, May I come in to see some of the cats, so that I can possibly adopt two of them. I was immediately greeted with an attitude. She was not friendly, at all. She shook her head and said that I needed to make an appointment in a very dismissive manner. I was confused because I was able to just walk-in to other shelters. But, I also understand that different establishments have different rules. So I was willing to just go home and make an appointment, like she instructed. In my disappointment, I said something to the effect of, I thought it would be a little easier to adopt needy animals, given the fact that they are homeless. I then proceeded to turn and go on my way, when Sarah rudely said, Well, adopt somewhere else then. I was utterly disgusted by that comment.This employee (she has black hair and wears glasses) should not be working with the public with an attitude like that...especially if she is pushing prospective adopters away. I also work in service to the public and I understand that clients/customers may say things out of disappointment at times (although what I said was not rude at all). But as a professional, she should not conduct herself in that manner.After the incident, I spoke with three employees (who were walking together out of the premises) to ask who I could speak to in regards to this. One of them shook their head and said Yeah, thats how she is ... and eluded to the fact that this wasnt the first time clients have complained about her poor behavior. This is unacceptable.Those animals at the shelter deserve better. Im not sure if this is a kill shelter or not...but if it is, then that makes this situation even sadder. She has probably pushed away dozens of people willing to adopt animals on death row.
Volunteers Needed Badly from what I saw!!! ...Overall its a rescue shelter... Animals need to be recused, however they need more volunteers. Our pet ended up being partly deaf and with a parasite..... the shelter had no clue prior to the adoption 😞. With that said we adore our rabbit and hes probably the most spoiled rabbit ever! We do plan on adopting one more rabbit or fostering to help because you can tell they need it!!4/14/2022Update: We just adopted our second Rabbit and cant wait to take her home after her surgery. Guys this place might not be ideal for animals BUT we can do our part and adopt or foster them.
We adopted both of our beautiful cats from this NYCACC location. The staff and volunteers are generally helpful (sometimes youll run into a grouch, but you roll with it). The cats are clean and well taken care of. After we adopted our second cat here, she had some unexpected health problems. They stepped up and helped us cover some of the animal hospital bills and now our girl is healthy and happy. They do great work.
We just adopted our cat from here and it was such a smooth and easy process! Everything moved quickly, they were super communicative, and we’re so glad to welcome Baby to our family!
I was very upset I had to put down my cat after 14 years when I walked in the staff was so compassionate sincere very polite and made my horrible experience alot easier I know shes in a better place.Thank you to the staff.
The staff was friendly and concerned about the dog I am adopting. They are not out to bleed a persons bank account. Gave me a voucher to bring the dog to the Vet for a free checkup. Will have the animal fixed when slot available. I named her Star. She fit right into my home as if she was here a long time. She does not bark at anyone anymore. She only wants to go after a squirrel, but calms down when I say uh uh. Star has rescued me, since my retirement I felt lonely. I told Star, we will take care of each other. My family loves her as I do. Thank you ACC of NY.
Presently I have not had a chance to really connect with staff. Am intending to go back to have a real chance to go inside - past the front door - am anxious to adopt a pet 🐈.

They gave me my beautiful baby Egypt. The staff members upstair are helpful and nice . first floor can get a lil more training, but overall so far so good. I already referred many ppl.

Helpful Animal Shelter.They offer many services. Their main goal is to find homes for the unwanted & discarded dogs and cats.For a very, very small charge to help process adoption, spaying, neutering, pet care and chip implantation to find your pet if it should get lost. I had some time in a private room to get to know the pets individually.Then youll be on your way to sharing a home with a friend in need. Remember, you might have to wait a day, or two for the spaying/ neutering. Like everything in life, if things dont work out, you can return your friend upon filing out paperwork. No complaints.
I’ve adopted my cat in July 2018. She’s been a great addition to my family. This facility made it really easy to adopt and within the same day. They also gave me a free voucher for a vet visit, she had already gotten a few shots, they gave a little toy and rug as well as a big bag of food. I’d recommend to his place to friends. The staff were really friendly!
Staff Very honest about the animals health needs and as a customer you make the best decide for the animals before you adopted, they also has frosted animals temporarily. The only thing I would suggested is that ASPCA find a way to treat kennel cough for all dogs together as there place in the shelter, dog place in the shelter for more then 24 hours Catch kennel cough, treat dogs as one unit and allow them to live and a health enviorment before enter into home, cure kennel cough before send them to a new family. Beautiful animal very concerning if you have other health animals in the home.

I adopted a bunny from there and was told I would have to bring him back for his neuter and would be listed as a foster until he received his surgery. The counselors told me he would be in the care of the team for 3 days post surgery so that he could be monitored and administered pain medication for 3 days after his surgery. While he was in their care, nobody gave him his pain medication. Not even an apology was offered. How cruel could the staff be to not administer any pain medication after they told me he must stay there for 3 days for that purpose? I could have taken him home and monitored him myself and given him the pain medication he needed. I called to ask to speak to a manager and was only given the general adoption email and was told by the woman who answered the phone that Hugo already spoke to me. Well Hugo is a liar because I don’t know who he is. What a terrible and cruel place for animals.
I love that this is a NO KILL animal shelter. Theyre kinda slow with answering the phones but I can see why , they give these animals alot of care. Ive adopted 2 cats from here. Id definitely recommend this place.

I adopted My BEAUTIFUL daughter a German Shepherd named Reign. Shes wonderful and the staff at ACC are AWESOME PEOPLE.
A friend found that her neighbor had died and left a cat behind. Police took the cat here. My friend got them to keep the cat here until she could find a someone to take her. She was scared and angry and hissed a lot. They kept her separate. I offered to take the cat. They were very nice to me, took care of the cat, gave her her shots and a chip. Checked back to see how she was doing.
The cat adoption program was only one day & it wasnt disclosed as that. I traveled from bklyn to Harlem . Got there & was told that it was a one day ONLY adoption drive for kittens. My family & I are pet lovers for over 5 decades. 3 of our pets are buried in my front yard under the rose Bush that my parents planted in 1968. Just a month ago we had to put our cat of 16 years to rest. Had him cremated . He looks just like Morris the 9 lives cat. The visit was not a good thing.

The staff here where so kind and friendly very compassionate about peoples feelings. It was my first time visiting this animal enter due to my cat passed unexpectedly and the Fordham center in the Bronx location was closed. I was very impressed by the warmth in here as care takers will come again if I need to thank you Staff members.
Staff was very kind and sympathetic towards the loss of my cat, Chelsea. I wish I had known about this place before my cat passed. I also received my paw prints very quickly.
Unprofessionalism among the staff they never get back to you when it comes to receiving information or even “adopting” a pet. They will always get back to you when they feel like it or they just won’t. Let’s not forget the negative experience I had with one of these “workers” tried to have the audacity to not believe me that I was frosting a vicious and aggressive cat. After being attacked by this animal they STILL put it for other people to adopt. Wow I seriously hope the next people to adopt this vicious cat doesn’t go through what I went through and this cat name is Raider with an ID of 118225.

I adopted 2 kittens from this facility and I am very happy with my decision. I am not happy about the second time around. We couldnt go inside and view the cats, dogs, and rabbits but I know Covid has changed the world... During the adoption process, I had to do a video call which was ok but not what I wanted. I enjoy in person interactions. Hopefully, things will change soon. Overall, I love my Binky and Mikey ❤️.
I rescued my cat Mackie from here and here as vaccinated, treated and cared for by the staff here. It is a great place where the staff truly cares about the animals. I recommend you checkout the selection of pets up for adoption.
To the best of their ability, they eased the pain of a deeply sorrowful situation. The staff had a compassionate and gentle demeanor while addressing my husband and myself, and somehow, in some way, that really did help.
I want to thanks NYCACC for helping me and my husband find our furry baby Benji. I came there in July and hes super happy and sweet. He loves to cuddle a lot. I just want to say thank you again.
Here’s my thing. They may take care of the their animals but they DO NOT clean after their dogs! I happen to live just around the corner from this place for OVER 15 years! They absolutely do walk their animals but they absolutely DO NOT clean after them! Leaving piles and piles and piles of poop fromThe beginning to the end of the block and that is no exaggeration! I hate it! The streets reek of urine and feces from the carelessness of simply not cleaning after their pets! This is not okay guys. Please do better with this. Other than that great work on everything else

They dont let you see any animal refused to let me say any one, at same time I filed request many times to adopt they never responded. Im not shore why this shultter is opean if they refuse to let people see to adopt at same time never respond to any adption request. While the animal are jailed they probably get $ and donation that they dont let people adopt them while keeping them jailed for the money they get on them

I’ve been volunteering at the ACC since 2019, and everyone who works there is a joy to work with. As a city funded shelter, they have to take in every animal, but they do their best to find every animal a home and provide them the best care possible while they’re there. Consider adopting from the ACC!
Amazing place to bring your dog or cat here. We had to euthanize our dog and the staff is very compassionate to both the animal and their owners. The love they show for what they do is above and beyond. They are inexpensive and are open seven days a week. I liked the fact that your wait is only ten to twenty minutes. Consider this center when your pets need any kind of care, they are a for none profit organization. If you like to make any donations or just simply would like to volunteer your services theyll gladly appreciate it. I had a great service here.
We adopted a beautiful sweet cat. They followed Covid guidelines when we were there. Staff was very nice and was efficient in getting the paperwork done. They also do a Zoom call for new adoptions which we found helpful. A great way to follow-up with questions you may have.
Seems maybe they have new managers/supervisors or whomever the people are over the volunteers that show you the animals because my daughter and I had horrible experiences here. Pre-covid we tried to adopt a cat a few times and were either shot down, excuses of the pets health - but next day the animal was conveniently adopted by someone else, to outright prejudice behavior from a head person over the volunteers. Since its run by the city what would be the need to report it? They are covered by the union more than likely, so they can get away with it.
This place and places like it are absolutely necessary. The care these ppl provide to these beautiful animals is something to write home about.
The staff is very attentive to your needs, Professional, and very courteous. Theres an array of animals there. The ASPCA sent me there because they have limited amounts of animals

I felt like they really dont want to let me adopt a pet dog or cat .They hold on to the good wealthy cats and push the sick ones for more money in medical cost .I dont have a problem helping a animal is just try to help me adopt dont try to scam me .

I would not recommend this place. I understand because of the pandemic things are a bit hectic but this place seems to be disorganized from the start. I emailed them asking about a specific cat I was looking at. I currently have a dog and was looking for a cat that was friendly, and has been exposed to dogs previously. The cats description said he has lived with both cats and dogs previously and gets along with everyone including kids. Said the cat was friendly and quiet. When I reached out I specifically asked what would be my next step so I can meet the cat. Their response was they are not letting people meet cats and then they gave me the cats bio, which I obviously already saw online. Then when I questioned How do I adopt a cat if i can’t meet him. And then they replied saying I needed to fill out an application then set an appointment. A little annoyed because that should have been the first answer I received. After I filled out the application I received a phone call telling me more about the cat. According to the notes on the cat it seemed the complete opposite than the bio online. She said the surrender notes the cat was viscous and scratched and /growled and bit people. Which made me a bit wary. Then I asked if I could have my dog meet the cat before adoption but they also do not allow this. Then she said I could come in meet t cat and take him home the same day. And I specifically asked do I have to take the cat home the same day. And I was told yes. They do not hold cats. Which I understand not wanting to put a pet on hold. But at the same time this is a big decision and i asked what if I wanted to think about it. I would not expect them to hold him but could I think about it then make a decision the next day if he is still available. They pretty much toldMe I could only meet with the cat if I had intentions on taking the cat home the same day. She stated they do this because it is a government funded shelter and they like to get the pets out ASAP. Which I understand. However, I have adopted from many different types of shelters before and I have never been pressured to adopt an animal if I was unsure. Usually at other places the staff has been friendly and would want me to meet other pets because they want to make sure it’s the right fit because if it is not then that just means the animal will be surrendered to a shelter again. When I responded stating I did not feel comfortable with the pressure she tried blaming the pandemic as the reason they want you to leave with a pet the same day. Which is not how she explained it the first time. I think this place tries to pressure to adopt too quickly which can cause more harm to the pets. I have reached out to other shelters and they all agree that this is a big decision and that someone should not feel forced to take a pet just because they came in to meet him/her. But to make sure they are a right fit. I will be going to one of them instead.
I liked it to adopt my new kitty, but its animal jail. It so sad. I wanted to take tthen all home. The staff. Has been awesome!!! Very positive and upbeat. Kudos to everyone who works there. They’re run by volunteers and you get what you pay for. Don’t expect them to respect your time, but they are a no kill shelter, so that’s nice and they do a lovely follow up after the adoption.
My Aunt had to come in to put her cat to sleep. The woman who helped us was very cold but she claimed to love cats but she seemed like she was in a rush and was very sarcastic and had a answer just a attitude .There was no sympathy or compassion . Now i know its bot the place but that lady needs to work on her way of talking to someone when someone is losing a loved one . Pets become more than that their family . The good think though is they waived or fee . But my aunt dont remember a fee happening with her first cat
Family and I just brought our senior and failing dog in for end-of-life services. The staff were so sensitive and compassionate while handling the process from start to end. While we weren’t permitted to be with her during the procedure we were allowed time with her afterwards and were so touched by the care staff take to ease owner pain. Our pet was thoughtfully and lovingly laid out for us to say our final goodbyes. We are allso grateful for this.On another note, I am so impressed by how well this center manages pets and adoption on what has to be a shoestring budget. The center offers so much pet owner support. It’s a wonderful service and thanks to all who volunteer to keep it going.
The staff at the Queens location made the worst day in a pet owners life just a little bit better. I relinquished the remains of my Border Collie who I adopted at 9weeks old. When the staff inquired how old my dog was I told them she was 19years 10months old. I didnt realize twenty years had transpired since I adopted her as a puppy. The staff including the buildings and maintenance workers installing the fluorescent light fixtures gave me hugs and told me I did a great job of caring for her.
It was great to find a place that did not commercialized the dead of my beloved dog. I was appalled that some places would charge uo to 700 to put a 17 year old to sleep. My four legged son passed at home and I trusted them to treat hi final job with dignity. My love and respect always
While not the most beautiful facility, it seems that they take good care of the animals. We rescued a cat here in 2017 and he is an angel! They also were quick to squeeze me in when he was sick from being in the kennel and gave me medications for him for free. Please rescue if you can! Super kind staff.
A month ago I brought a rescue kitten who had pneumonia. I had exhausted my bank account at vets trying to save her. I have ten other rescue kittens too I’m caring for and was in over my head. The staff did everything in their power to help me. They struggled to find somewhere she could go to get help. They really tried everything they could to help. But the kitten needed pretty intensive care. In the end, a vet assessed her and concluded it was pretty hopeless. She’d very not likely survive even if she had unlimited medical care. She was in fact dying. I was shattered. I love every kitten I rescue and foster. But the staff there were as kind and supportive and compassionate as anyone could be and made a heart breaking situation more bearable. I was there for hours and in that time witnessed a such an amazing level of professionalism and compassion from every single staff member. So many animals came in during that time. Even a tiny little baby bird that had fallen from a nest. And the staff handled it all like true pros, never flustered, always patient, and with boundless compassion. Although it was a sad day for me, it inspired me to keep doing rescues and to keep trying. I am donating now and I would encourage anyone else who loves animals to support this shelter in any way you can. Adopt from them. Donate. Volunteer. They are an irreplaceable gem in this city and are amazing at the monumental task they face.
We adopted our first dog here almost 2 years ago and the lady that helped us was great. We showed up just before closing but she was patient and walked us through everything. She told us upfront of his possible behavioral problems and challenges that may be in his future. She also recommended food and supplies to be prepared for a dog. We have spent over $2k on his training plus some health-related issues the first year we had him (he was completely untrained). Now we get comments all the time on how well behaved he is both indoors and outdoors from both friends and strangers. However, I feel like she may be the exception to a majority of the staff that works at the desks (the volunteer are usually helpful and nice).Now, 2 years later, we have been coming back every few weeks to find a second dog to add to our family, and the staff (especially the elderly ones) seem like theyre gate-keeping. The elderly lady was very rude and accused us of going into the wrong room or misreading the sign even when we had gone downstairs to double-check. They later realized it was a mistake on their end but no apologies were given for their rudeness. Maybe its because my bf and I seem really young so they dont feel like we would be responsible owners? Who knows. I have heard other things about their staffing that I dont want to get into here. I was really disappointed that the original girl we adopted with no longer worked there. As much as I would like to provide the animals here a home, I think Im going to go to another rescue. The workers here make the environment extremely uninviting and a bit uncomfortable, especially when you are trying to inquire about an animal. I had actually wanted to volunteer and donate to acc as well, but I think Ill find another rescue thats a bit nicer.5/5 if I had rated this place in 2017, but 2/5 as of today.
They eased our minds for Marley, from nyaccboroughbredbrooklyn that we are fostering to adopt. She came in estrus and had a lot of blood. She is 8 years old. She needs to be spayed but otherwise healthy dog. They were very nice, good care.
Ive lost many chances of taking any dogs home especially after being told that they were available for adoption. Im not sure what it was going to take to get a chance but I kinda gave up after the first three attempts. I was lucky enough to get a response from one of the beautiful pups but the next day the post was taken off the website.
This is a great animal shelter. The people are helpful and knowledgeable since my first phone call. The dog walkers and the front desk were sweet patient and helpful. They are not biased on sex, race, and are LGBT friendly . I would recommend anyone looking for a new best friend to adopt from ACC . I went there to adopt a dog and left with a new best friend. My pit is very sweet loyal loving a protective of me . Go and find your best friend too!

The volunteer I had was really helpful with the adoption process, even with the DOH hold. When I finally was approved and could pick up my cat, she helped recommend different brands of cat food and litter. She was really great and patient in answering all of my questions since it was my first time owning a pet fully on my own. Yes, the place smells and is loud, but its a shelter. The animals themselves and their arrangements were all clean and cared for, and thats what matters.
We rescued our 3rd dog from here within the last 10 years. The experience has always been wonderful and the staff are very kind. Thank you all for completing our family.
Lively atmosphere full of people who genuinely care about the animals they look after. You can tell that everyone works hard to keep the residents as happy as they can be in a rescue center.Top tip - go when you are able to immediately take your pet home. This is a busy center with a huge flow of animals. Theres no guarantee that an animal can be placed on hold for you if you need to think about it. Dont let this deter you though!
I started emailing them on November 7th to set up an appointment to meet these beautiful animals. After I received some pictures of the three dogs that were coming tomorrow, November 12, I have not heard anything from them. I have texted and called on numerous occasions to try to set up an appointment and no response. I’ll be going anyway tomorrow to try to make my kids happy and if all goes well, i’ll fix the review. Until then however, 0/5 from me.
The staff was very friendly and helped me throughout the process. The dog I was going to adopt had just had surgery that morning so he was still medicated. I was told that I was still able to adopt him that day but I waited to come back the next day to be able to interact with him without being medicated. By the time I got back the next day he had been adopted but the staff was more than helpful on informing me about the other dogs they had at the shelter.

Ive had many friends who adopted wonderful pets from here. While I havent done so myself, I definitely would go here first before the other shelters. After my dog passed away, they were compassionate, helped me move him, and offered cremation free of charge. Thank you for making this process just a little bit easier on me
Very nice place to adopt from! Though I didnt adopt, I heard AMAZING stories from my friends (besides one of them) I will soon get a feline friend, and maybe a job here! One thing I wish for this place to change is the website and app. I heard the price where $25 for a 5 year old cat, but my friend had to pay $127, which surprised me a little. Maybe be a little for accurate in your website?
I lost my little feline best friend last week and went in to put him to sleep. Ive had my cat for 18 years and it was the hardest thing Ive had to do. The staff here was helpful and caring. They really seemed to give a lot of attention to my friend in his dying time and I cant thank them enough. I couldnt stop crying coming home. Not only because Id lost my only friend here in NY but the fact that someone else seemed to understand the hole that was left in my heart. Thank you guys so much. And Im sure my little one thanks you too.
I had to bring my pet here to have her put down due to chronic illness. They were reasonably priced compared to the private vet . Although I did have to wait a while, once it was done I was able to see my love afterwards, and I cant thank the staff enough for how they had respectfully treated her. She was beautiful, and I would recommend them for this service. It is a sad time regardless, but its the small things that matter and I am grateful for the extra steps that they took.
They care about the animals! You have a staff that knows what they doing they have volunteers that come and help the staff with walking the dogs that are there. I brought a stray cat because I couldnt take care of it my self immediately the vet checked it and did everything necessarily to make my animal comfortable. That gave me the scenarios what could happen to that animal, and after signing the paper he said that I could check up on her with her ID number. I know now that she is in the process of being fostered to adopt. I saved this kitten lives and they help me keep her alive!!!
I picked 2 dogs from there last week. I found them online and put the deposit on to hold them.Within a few hours the staff had called me and gave me updates and info about the dogs.The staff is great. Down stairs at the check in yes they seemed rushed, but if you spend any amount of time in the lobby you will see why. They are swamped with people bringing animals in.I arrived late in the day Monday so everything couldnt be finished up on Monday. when I arrived at 5:30PM Kira and Nicole were the only ones doing adoptions. I think there was about 10 people waiting for an adoption in front of me. Nicole introduced the dogs to me and let me spend time with them. After not even taking lunch earlier in the day and adoptions closing at 7 I believe she still stayed until shortly after 8, to see how the dogs were together and spend time with them. The vets had left so it was too late for the appropriate shots. Nicole was off the next day but Kira offered to get their shots and everything done first thing, and that I could arrive early the next day as I traveled over 3 hours to get there. When I arrived Tuesday she had already made sure the dogs were taken care of. We finished up some paper work and I was pretty much on my way. Kira is very knowledgeable about the behavior of the dogs. She spent a few minutes giving advice and I was out of there.The 2 dogs had kennel cough but that seems to of been cleared up within the week. They are very playful, and trainable. They walk great together on a leash, and play ball and listen very well off the leash (I live in a wooded, secluded area). I couldnt be happier with the dogs Missy and China.You might experience a wait there but that is because it is so busy. Even the staff cleaning the cages all had positive attitudes. Please please give this place a chance if you are looking for a dog!Thank you!
Site says they’re closed at 6. They decided to close at 4 with a line outside of people some of which who had appointments to pick up animals. It’s horrible that there is a call to adopt animals but the people running the facility are a huge barrier. Will go elsewhere!

Do not go here. We were told it would be a two hour wait before we could even begin the adoption process. We arrived just after 12. There was no place to sit and wait. We stood in a narrow concrete hallway. The staff was not helpful. Go to the ASPCA on 92nd street. We bailed and found our new kitty at this ASPCA branch. The difference was night and day. The process still took us all day because we toured all of the cats twice with no problem. The facility was clean and cheerful. The employees were on-the-ball and extremely helpful. They were very thorough and helpful. It was a great experience.
The staff are incredible there! They make the worst day when you must say final goodbye to your fury friend, a little easier. After all is done they sent me a card with with their condolences and my beloved Nalas paw print.I cant imagine how hard and dedicated they work all day, even with Covid around to make everything goes smoothly. I recently dropped a stray cat off at the center and was very impressed by the care given to the animals, responsiveness of the staff and the thoroughness of the adoption process. I found the space very conducive and staff very attentive to the animals comfort and needs. The adoption services provided a very thorough package including vouchers for dental and medical check ups, vaccines, spay and neuter, blood tests and counseling with staff regarding care and any other questions. I highly recommend this organization for anyone looking to either adopt or hand over a found animal!
Id really like to thank Sydney and Jenna for their help with my dog adoption. I cant imagine how difficult it is for the ACC to fulfill their mission and serve NYC. It was clear to me that the entire team works with compassion, dedication, and professionalism. Please consider a rewarding adoption here for your next pet.
Hats off to all the staff at AC&C. They take a lot of stick online I see, but I seen nothing but good care and attention being given to these poor dogs and cats.They take extra care to dress the dogs with little scarfs and stuff so theyll look cute in the hope that someone will adopt them. The dogs know too. Theyre all looking at you with big, sad eyes when you go in to look at them. I said to the staff that it must be great getting to work with all the animals and then they look at me like Im crazy. Then I realize what Ive just said ... they get to know and love these animals but a lot of them have to be put down on daily basis because they are not adopted and they dont have the space for them all. Yes, the place smells cos, guess what? .. its full of dogs and cats! As far as I could see, all of the cages were clean, had food and water. I found the staff to be nothing but friendly and helpful. I would urge anyone looking for a pet, instead of going to a puppy farm or a pet shop, to check out your local shelter. For a minimal fee, you can have a dog, already house-trained, spayed/neutered, and with all their shots. All of the dogs are assessed too for behavioral issues, so it wouldnt be worth their reputation to give out a dog with problems.
Beyond amazing I would give them 100 stars if I could!! There was a young blonde who help is out (my mom and sister) she was very sweet and compassionate the entire time and explain everything as we were there to put down my sisters cat. It took about 15 minutes and we did get to spend time with the body afterwards which the set up was beyond what we expected. They treated the cat with such respect and us as well I would HIGHLY recommend this place to anyone and the price was very reasonable.
I adopted a small dog from here a year ago. He was on the at-risk list and I felt a connection to this dog, like I had to save him, so I paid a deposit online. When I walked in at opening time the next morning and requested him they told me they hadnt received my deposit (it was on my credit card bill, they definitely received it), and they made me wait a full hour, then got him from downstairs. I was disturbed sitting there waiting, wondering if a dog had ever been euthanized simply because they didnt realize someone had put a deposit down . . . and why werent the at-risk dogs up front and center on their last day, given a fighting chance?I knew the dog I wanted was a stray but was surprised when he was brought up to meet me, he was the worst thing Ive ever smelled. His coat had grown into an eye causing infection and his rear was covered with dried feces. I knew he had been at the shelter for 9 days, and I was surprised. I would think the city would pay for a quick shave and T-shirt for these poor animals but I guess they dont give the shelter enough money for that, which as New Yorkers we need to get together and change-- he might not have ended up on the risk list if he had a decent haircut!Next I was grilled by a volunteer, which I felt was a bit over the top but coming from a good place. Im clearly mid 30s, well off, already have an elderly dog, already have experience caring for elderly/ill dogs, already have experience with the breed, own and live in an apartment just ten blocks away in a better neighborhood. I listed a friend who is the director of development at an internationally renowned vet hospital as my personal reference on the adoption form, and my longtime vet for my current dog, and this volunteer made me sit and wait while she called them. She asked for proof of my current dogs vaccination history etc. Part of me thinks thats great, but also disproportionate to the dogs need: at deaths door, wouldnt any prospective owner who is not abusive be good enough?After confirming my references, she warned me that this particular dog would cost me thousands in medical bills, and told me I had to surrender him back to them if I ever gave him up. Again, I think her intentions here were good but might also scare some good people off. First of all, in the year Ive had him the dog has cost me less than $1000 total in vet bills, and Im a paranoid owner who takes them in for any little thing. Hes happy and healthy. Ive spent five times as much on grooming, food, clothes, toys, and doggy daycare. Secondly, I would never give an animal to a kill shelter, I would find him a loving home or keep him despite the inconvenience, so I think thats a weird expectation of adopters. Anyway, I was happy to pay extra for the dog (I was never refunded that original deposit) and was out of there with him in about 3 hours.So why 5 stars? If we dont adopt these animals, their lives are literally over. People who left 1 star reviews because the staff doesnt pick up the phone or the building smells bad or you think $150 is too high an adoption fee, shame on you. What I saw there was sad and what I went through was awkward, and for exactly those reasons I will never get a dog from anywhere else. These animals need us! I also signed up to give a small monthly donation after receiving ACCs email blasts because they clearly need it. My advice for anyone who wants a cute loving animal is to go prepared, with a few hours to spare, and ask specifically about the at-risk animals. Their admin isnt streamlined, their facility isnt pretty and the animals arent happy, but everyone is doing the best they can.
I would highly recommend this place. All of the staff members were so sweet and caring. They were willing to answer any questions we had and helped us find the perfect pup. Especially Dante, he was such a pleasure to work with and really cares. A perfect shelter to look for your new fur baby!
I adopted my sweet Dutchess @3 years old, 7 years ago from here and Ive been very happy. paper work took a while plus she was getting spayed. staff was very nice and attentive but, they do let you roam around as the previous reviewer said, maybe not enough staff back then i dont know about now. Im planning a visit today.
I had to put my dog to sleep. That was very hard. The people in this place where so gently and caring to me and my family. As hard as it was they really helped us through it. After it was done they gave us a viewing and last moments with her. My bog was covered with a white blanket and flowers. They really cared. I want to thank them for that.
I went here with my mother to donate some dog items from our wonderful dog Shadow, whom passed away and we adopted him from here 12 years ago. As soon as I came inside I felt a bad presence, the staff members looked liked a bunch of drug addicts. The two female front desk receptionist were rude and impolite, both of them looked like they didn’t want to be there. Even though we came to do a good deed on our part, but I’m embarrassed to say that this place didn’t look like an animal shelter. The staff on the 2nd floor had no clue of any questions we had to ask them, except for a volunteer name Jose. God Bless his heart, we saw a small dog who needed a blanket to be change because it was covered with urine on a dog named Chummy and gladly he changed it for the poor dog. This place needs to be more compassion working with animals, even though there are some that care like Jose! But not all that volunteer care here and it’s a shame and a total disrespect towards these animals who are just looking for a wonderful home and to be love.
In this place I adopted a few months ago a two-year-old Chino who was at risk of euthanasia due to his heart problems (as they said). I ventured to pick up the cat and I do not regret it. I don’t know how the former owner could have such a cruel heart to bring such a soft calm and kind cat to the shelter in reason of “move”.If it weren’t me, Chino would not have been there since the cat had virtually no chance of adoption.And no time. He was shocked for another 3 weeks while living inside my closet but now he is the happiest cat in the world. His name now is mister Cooks.p.s: I have a convincing request to the shelter: give the animals more time than they have.Thank you.
I got two kitties from their mobile adoption van in April. They had already been spayed, microchipped, and had all the shots that they could get (one was too small for some of the shots). The process was quick and efficient and I thought the adoption fee ($100 since I was adopting two) was reasonable, considering what spaying and shots cost. A couple months later the foster coordinator emailed to check in and to ask for an update, since they had both been fostered prior to being put up for adoption. The cats are both really sweet, and Im glad that I rescued them from the city run shelter. It sucks that they have to euthanize so many pets, but I feel they do a great job trying to find homes.
All the cats that was there had a gingivitis problem that will cost me in total $500.00 and up for the treatment they were cute but they all was sick with some type of illness I did not take a cat home that day, I decided to get one from the ASPCA
Wow, Ive never been to an animal shelter like this!!!! Everyone here including staff and volunteers are super educated on the animals the foster, patient, loving, caring and all around good samaritans!!!! They truly have a genuine love for all animals!!! ACC offers a variety of animals here not only dogs and cats, they also have Guinea pigs, bunnys!! Adoption fees are reasonable, but if you are interested in a specific animal they have a first come, first serve protocol, so if you are looking to adopt please come here.... trust me you wont regret it 🥰🥰🥰🥰
2nd time going here. Had to say my goodbyes to my dog but because of covid I could go in. It was difficult but they always been nice. In the mail they sent this which was lovely and now I framed the paws just have to get the paper framed so I can put the paws together with it.
I dont understand why they are not open. All kind of signs saying its b/c of Covid. Covid has come & its fast leaving. Had many cans of dog food to donate. Just left on bench outside & hope they get them.
Im not entirely sure about how to feel about this place. You can smell it from outdoors and it gets worse after you enter. The place seems over crowded and under staffed. We were warned that the cats up for adoption could become sick before being spayed/neutered. And noticed that sick cats were kept in the same place as healthy cats. The cages also looked like no one had cleaned for a while. I would be very cautious before adopting from there.
Horror Update I was promised a full refund on her vet bills for the mites found in ear because they obviously didnt give her a full exam as promised on the adoption contract and I have been going back and forth with this Manhattan Adoption Supervisor since Jan 11th for my refund and havent received anything yet and its May 6th. Im just going to report this and enjoy my cat in good health.2 week update unfortunately when i took my kitten to a outside veterinarian I discovered she had ear mites and an upper respiratory infection. Now the cold is common with adopted animals however they claimed to have given her a full exam that is included in your adoption fee but they obviously did not due to the disgusting things my vet found in her ears. Now im stuck giving ear drops in her ears and antibiotic down her throat twice a day for 10 days. Also I kept in contact with a lady who adopted my kittens sister and she has the same problem. Luckily I took her to go get seen so please be careful and be cautious. Good luck finding your family!First review! The kittens there go pretty quick but I got lucky and found my baby as soon as I got there. The adoption process was fast i got her in 3 days right after her shots and she got fixed.
I got my dog there a year ago. I fell in love with him. They took good care of him while he was there. When I got him home, a day later he started coughing. He had Kennel Cough. They gave me his medication with no problem as promised.I see the staff doing a great job caring for the animals.
Really helpful! I was super nervous as a first time cat mom. Ive never been a cat person but this was the third shelter I went to! I was just about to give up trying that day, when I found this on google. I walked in and up the stairs. You sign in, and then you can walk into the rooms with the animals. The cats are all in little cages, but they have little compartments to sleep in and use the bathroom in. I was impressed. The room was very clean, and while I was there I saw them clean the floor at least twice.The cats have signs on them saying whether or not they were neutered, where they were found, medical history, ect. They say whether or not they would do better in a home with kids or other pets, or if they would be better with an experienced cat person. I then sat down and told the lady which cat I was interested in, and she gave me an extensive summary of her. The adoption process did take a while. I went around 6:30 pm on a Monday. There were only two people working at the desk, so do allow at least an hour to fill out paperwork and such just to be safe. They are thorough, and while its annoying you have to wait, they answer your questions and leave you feeling ready to be a new pet owner. I had a really good experience here. They gave me a vet coupon valid for 10 days after adoption which is great because they offer neuter/spay included in the adoption fee (which ranged from $25-$75 for cats), so if they have any complications (which mine hasnt) you have somewhere to go.The only reason I rated it four stars instead of five was the smell. I know it cant be helped, because there are a lot of animals here, and the rooms with the animals themselves are well kept and clean, which I very much appreciate, the smell was unpleasant.Overall, though, I am very pleased with my experience at the ACC on 110th street.
I STRONGLY support saving the animals here, but I also recommend another location.Terrible employees/staff here. The wait was well over an hour. For most of that hour, those of us waiting, were given no help. The staff just lets people roam the hallways with no direction. When I was finally seen the employee (Trisha or something) handled the puppy aggressively and then claimed that it was the dog that was the problem. Clearly it was this site with the issues. Roaches were everywhere, the kennels were badly looked after, and the place smelled awful. Im going back to adopt my Dog, but it will be the last time I visit this place.

Definitely dont recommend coming here. One staff tells you one thing and another staff tells you something else. I exchanged more than 5 emails with a staff here. I wasted my time traveling into Manhattan from Queens with my son for nothing. The staff couldve save me the trip by telling me the dog was not up for adoption period. And if she didnt know, she couldve asked the adoption counselors. Thats the purpose of working together as a team to make sure that pets get adopted. In my opinion, there is no organization here.
I recently surrendered my cat to them - the thing itself was the worst that I have ever done in my life, I love my baby and raised her since 8 weeks of age, I also took her from the UK to the US. However, due to my change of work schedule and apartment regulations, she became unhappy staying at my place. She was a very playful cat that needed lots of interactions and entertainment. I had no choice but reaching the ACC and they kindly said they could help me. I blamed myself badly but their staff were very patient and understanding. My pumpkin only spent 5 days there until she found a new loving owner. I wouldnt say the whole thing was a pleasant experience because giving up on animals is upsetting, but ACC has done their best in this situation to help me and help pumpkin. In my opinion they were very professional. I appreciate a lot.
I had a great experience. I went for my first time on 3/3/18 and the staff was very nice. I brought in some donations and saw the all the animals on the top floor. I didnt get so finish the lower level but i will come back soon. Over all great place and the volunteers were talking to the animals in a sweet tone.
The staff and volunteers are very knowledgeable and helpful to people coming in to adopt an animal. They have all the health details of each animal and even their temperament. I would definitely recommend visiting if youre looking for a new pet, we had a great experience there!
This was the only place that didnt ask me for a credit card before looking at my dog, Trouble. They were very knowledgeable, caring and respectful towards the situation my dog was in. Trouble was in alot of pain. He was crying all Wednesday morning. I made a few calls and found Animal Care Center located on East 110 st in East Harlem. They try to Help to everyone.I was blessed to meet Cecilia, one of the staff members who took great care of my dog. She expressed to me about available grants that I could apply for that are not too expensive to pay hospital bill. She helped me apply and I and Trouble was as eligible. Trouble had emergency surgery for a Hernia that could have taken his little life. Today, Trouble is doing very well. Thanks to ACC.I cant express enough on how greatful my family and I are to Cecilia and her team. She took quick action, made necessary calls and directed me on the right path towards my dogs recovery. The whole team amazing. I recommend this dog clinic to everyone. In the course of 45 minutes while waiting for for my foster kittens to see a vet, I saw: three people come in for animal surrenders, a police officer bring in a found dog, a crazy guy yelling at the staff claiming they touched his snake(?), a woman bring in an abused dog who was left tied to a fire hydrant, multiple families come in to look at the animals, and the best part- about 10 staff members came out to say a joyful, tear-filled goodbye to a newly adopted dog who had been at the shelter for a very long time. Every single person was treated with patience. All animals that are surrendered here (and boy, are there a lot) are taken in. For the sheer scale of what the ACC is dealing with, they are doing an incredible job. The receptionists, the volunteers, the foster staff... Everyone is an animal lover and has patience for even the rudest and craziest of people. Remember before you adopt a dog or cat, remember it is a commitment for the LIFE of your animal. If you are not comfortable with that commitment, then DONT get an animal. So many of these dogs and cats were brought in my owners who couldnt keep them anymore. Well done, ACC, you do an incredible job dealing with an incredible problem!
I went to this center today with my adult daughter who was looking to adopt a small size dog. The lady that finally took care of us, became very rude when we started to ask questions, we had never been here before, we were just trying to get Information bc we were informed the dog we wanted had not seen the vet yet and could not , therefore, be adopted yet, so we started to ask questions. She seemed bothered and became rude. Now as many questions as the lady b4 us asked, you were patient, friendly and polite, however, you become rude when we were trying to ask questions about a dog we want to adopt, is it a racial problem, we are Hispanic and the lady b4 us caucasian, as was the employee, could that have been the problem?I will never, ever, go back there again. I feel for the animals, but I will not return to that rude place again, very bad customer service at least on the second floor processing desk.Our first stop had been to the ASPCA, where they were friendly, courtious, caring and answered all of our questions. Unfortunately, we did not find a pet there, which is how we ended up in the above mentioned dump with the rude employee.
My son and I went to the animal center at 8:30 a.m. the website says they open at 8 a.m. so we tried to be there early. We were not informed until we got there that we had to wait until 12 noon to see the dogs that were for adoption. It would have been helpful if they have put that on their website because we came from another Borough to view the dogs. Moving forward it would be a good idea to update the website with the exact date and times of services.
Great animals, very incompetent staff. Staff lies and are not good people. Sad to see so many others with similar issues and no changes.
Went to the facility hoping to adopt a guinea pig but found out after spending time with the animals and waiting to speak to someone that none of the female pigs were ready to adopt as they hadn’t been spayed and it could be a month before that happens. Anyway my kids were very disappointed since we could not wait that long. My main complaint is that the guinea pigs should not be advertised on the web site until they are spayed or neutered. We would not have spent our time coming and waiting to see if we could adopt one if they were not ready to go within a week. The woman who showed us the pigs was kind and helpful. The only other complaint is that the place smelled horrible. Really needs to be cleaned with bleach and water. Or maybe there are just too many animals in the space .the pigs and rabbits did look well cared for. But when you walk in the building it smells like a barn.
One of my cats was very sick and it seemed euthanasia was the best route to go. I went to one location and was told they can get all my info and then I could take her to the main city location and they can take us immediately. When I got there, it was quite the opposite. It was busy and noisy. There were several people waiting with large dogs. I was already extremely uneasy because of our unfortunate circumstances and I cant imagine it was any better for my ailing pet.
Staff was professional and polite. There is no greater value than saving the life of a homeless pets.
They definitely engage in discrimination practices. They once wouldnt allow me to adopt a Persian, giving shady reasons then claimed to send the cat to an undisclosed foster home. I inquired about that same cat after midnight, online and they snatched his profile down, a few minutes later. A White couple who inquired abut the same cat had the red carpet rolled out for them, was allowed handling and was given all of the cats health history. I was not but the White couple told me what they had told them. The adoption supervisor claimed I would be a better fit for a healthy cat but they play games and make up excuses. I went yesterday to try and adopt a Siamese who was posted online and they claimed she was being held away from the other cats and I couldnt see her. I asked why and they claimed she was being (once again) on hold for a foster agency. Foster agencies charge three to four times the adoption rate of shelters claiming they are special breeds and pretend to have paid for the cats medical care when the shelter did that. Much older cats, violent cats and one eyed cats, I am welcome to but twice, I have been denied a pet of my choice from this place, while they supposedly send these off to fosters or White people. Being a high kill shelter is not the least of their evil. Before that, I called them for an animal pickup---abandoned kittens. They had a truckload of excuses as to why they couldnt pick the kittens up for four days in a row (meetings, trainings, busy vans) but will yell at you if you say you cannot keep the litter another day. The place is just shady.
I adopted my dog from here about 4 years ago and I still remember the fondness and love they had for the animals in their keep. Do they euthanize animals? Sure! Those appalled should then create a haven for the animals on the list, or donate enough funds to cover having all those unwanted animals. Dont blame them for a problem created by ignorant owners, they are doing the best they can and a number of their staff are actually volunteers. So if you want the survival of these animals to be a priority, speak to your elected officials about funding for these places, volunteer or simply keep your rude and nasty comments to yourself!
While I truly appreciate what they do I would just go to the ASPCA on 92nd. It is so much better organized and structured. Was told to pick a kitten then report back at which point I did then after 15 min was told that cat was not available yet the other employee said it was. Was told to select another but he would come with me to tell me which ones were available or not. I just left and went to the ASPCA and had a 10x better experience.
Had to take my dog and the attention and carenwas exceptional. I and my dog was treated with special care and love. I dont have no doubt my dog will get a better home soon
Staff and volunteers caring and attentive to the animals whose cages were clean with food and water. Theyre busy and youll wait to adopt a pet but overall impressed with their operation, Ive adopted 2 wonderful cats.
As a foster, I did not like the way I was treated here. They were not as friendly as I would have hoped. From the moment I met the foster team I felt uncomfortable with them. I felt they were giving me strange looks and were not very personable. They didnt even ask me my name...and I found out after about and hour, they werent sure who I was (couldve been solved if theyd asked my full name from the beginning). In addition, they did not give me any information about the dog I showed up to foster. All they told me was his name. I asked about his age, but they couldnt tell me. They didnt even tell me where he came from. They almost sent me home with him after a brief walk (but he looked pretty sick) and I had to ask them to have someone check him out. It wasnt until after I pointed out that he looked sick, that they called the vet out to check him. They just gave him antibiotics and sent me home with him...still no word on if they had ANY information at all about him. I recently returned the doggie (after a destructive incident in my apartment) and they still werent very personable. Like they had nothing to say to me.They need to work on being more personable. I hope the dog gets adopted soon, because he was a good boy. I also hope they share more information with other fosters, because I am extremely disappointed in my experience working with ACC foster program. I hope they do better and that my experience is not the norm. Im saddened by this
Great place!! The service was amazing, everyone was very sweet and friendly. They helped a lot and knew everything about their animals! The adoption process was nice and they helped a lot with any questions and how to take care of your new pet. Very helpful and a very pleasant experience!
Its not the staff. They are wonderful. They are working in a stressful environment, animals most recovering from a condition. The cats I saw, were all sweet and cute. I was afraid to adopt a cat from a stressful environment likely unready to move into a new place
I adopted a cat here few months ago. I had an amazing experience. All the staff is nice and they really love the animals. You can even play with the cats to see if theres a good alchemy. Highly suggested... Its also cheaper!
ACC has come such a long way toward making the process of caring for many homeless, abused, and neglected animals a more humane and compassionate one. Volunteers and staff are wonderful. There are programs to work with partners to place animals, mobile adoption events, foster opportunities, and of course all with the goal of saving lives and connecting animals to loving families. Best of all are the beautiful animals who are looking to give love.
Well what can I say my partner and I adopted a rescue and have fallen madly in love with him. The people were Uber nice knowledgeable accommodating and really love animals. I would urge anyone to go there to adopt a pet or even volunteer. They give you everything you need for your pet to start off with. We are going back to get a brother or sister for our little Bowen. Please please adopt a rescue.
I had to surrender my Chihuahua mixed today. It broke my heart. Ms. Shannon head coordinator was so comforting in my time of need. She knew exactly what to say to reassure me that I was doing the right thing for my dog. Thanks to the great Staff at ACC. I WILL ALWAYS 💗 YOU Ms. Bougie

I adopted a kitten from the Manhattan ACC Broadway adoption event and couldn’t be happier. The adoption process was easy and the young woman who helped me through the adoption was extremely pleasant and knowledgeable. You could tell she truly loved her job and the animals. I know the ACC’s often receive a lot of backlash but people need to remember this is an open intake shelter, they are doing the very best they can. If the public is looking for someone to be upset with- be upset with the backyard breeders, the owners who aren’t getting their pets fixed. They are the problem. Anyways- can’t thank you enough for the adoption of my little Lee, he will be a cherished part of our family for the rest of his life!
Not a bad place, really. The employees are very warm towards the pets and clients and there is plenty of space where the pets are kept. The people there are super nice and smart about their area of work. The only bad thing about the place is that the first floor is a bit hot and it smells like cat pee. It can get really nauseating; it makes it feel like youre in the elevator of the projects.
I had a great experience there - the counselor took time and answered all of my questions. I came in on sunday eve and saw blueberry so wanted to start the process but they said its too late theyre closing at 6 (it was like 20to) so i came in yesterday (tuesday mlk on monday)at noon and everything worked out! So yess if you are serious about adopting an animal there make sure to come at times not much crowded and dont come in like 40 min before closing. When there are tons of people it will be hectic and questions maybe not answered. The animals are kept in cages and you can ask the counselor for a detailed description - make sure you know the color coding for behaviors! Those taking care of the animals did a great job (i spent half the afternoon there so got a pretty good pucture) constantly trying to comfort and pet the animals - again it wasnt crowded! These animals are on the death row so if you really want to rescue an animal thats the place to go - as for the costs i didnt think its expensive 50 for an adult cat and 75 for a kitten - at the end you rescue an animal and thats what matters. The adoptation process is lengthy but they are doing a good job providing you with all necessary information - i had a good impression of the people working there but as said the conditions arent perfect but you do rescue an animal and thats whats matters to me personally!!
I got my amazing pit here and she has melted my heart. I love her! I love this place for bringing us together. There are a lot of animals that need homes - if you love animals, and you need a pet - theres no better place.
Adopted a kitten but it turned out that it was already sick when it was in the shelter. The staff did not mention the healthy issue. It is a torture to bond with a kitten and then have to spend lots of time, money and energy to cure it. I will never adopt animals from this shelter. Besides, the shelter is smelly and staffs are always busy (some of them are friendly though).

The staff were very friendly and accommodating. They assisted me in scheduling an important appointment for my cat with one of their vet partners who provide low cost services.
A friend and I went here to adopt a pet, and the staff was very rude. When you ask questions they had these attitudes as if the customers were bothering them. It was if the staff were hiding to keep from doing work. I feel if you dont want to help customers adopt animals, maybe they should stay home and let someone else do the job. The reason why so many animals are put to sleep, is because the incompetence of the staff. Like to adopt a kitten is 75.00, then they hit you with a 150.00 fee out of no where. The customer service of the staff is horrible and they should all be replaced with people who can do the job. I would never go to this place again, nor would I recommend any one to go here either. They are disgusting and I feel sorry for the animals.
Saw a kitty on the online app at 8am yesterday morning that we really liked for our 10 yr old daughter & immediately emailed them. Went to the 110th location & spoke with Emily who said the cat was in transport to a foster center, she said she emailed our appl to them, they will call us but no worries- the cats ours since we’re the first ones to put in the appl for her! Later that evening we get an auto email back telling us that the cat will be at a foster location in Bowery today from 10-6pm. We were there at 9:30. A women was inside, The door was wide open, I walked in & tried to speak to her & all she kept repeating was - we’re closed, we open at 11- as she walked towards me kicking me out. I then called 110th Street, spoke to Stephany who said Emily didn’t put the appl but she will reach out to the foster care & send my appl. I went to eat since we were 1 1/2 hrs early. Came back at 10. 3rd person on the line. Saw our kitty right away! Ran to her! Went in & asked Jennifer. She said dn receive anything. We had to fill out another appl in person & by the time I was done, someone who got there much later than me had put the appl in first for the cat! Jennifer told me the cats not available anymore! I tried speaking to the guy that was getting the cat, explained our story & begged him if we can hv the cat. He said no! That he was there at 11am & wants the cat. I called Stephany back & she said she did call & speak with Jennifer at 9:30am & told her that we were there & wanted the cat! I even put Jennifer on the phone with Stephany & she explained! But Jennifer didn’t budge! She acted as if she knew nothing when I explained it to her prior to calling Stephany! She just kept saying first come, first serve! BUT we were first!!!!!!!!! She was rude & unprofessional! She turned our happy process of adopting a cat into just a negative experience! I have adopted 4 dogs from them & my friend adopted a cat a few weeks ago! Never have we encountered Jennifer & hope never to again! She never smiled at anyone! She was rude to one of the other volunteers there that tried to help us! I do not understand why she’s even there! The work they do is rewarding & fulfilling & she seems like she’s just miserable! Doesn’t fit what they stand for! I would NEVER refer anyone there after today’s exhausting experience... Gave it 2 stars because everyone else was nice & the volunteer lady that tried to help us was so sweet!! Wish I caught her name!
Animal shelter well staffed with volunteers that seem very concerned for the animals under there care,clean and attentive to the needs of animals under there care receptive to answering questions pertaining to animals. The only issue is the processing of incoming animals and animals under there care to clear them for adoption is long thus animals linger too long eventually adding to there stress and they begin to come down with ailments which create barriers to there chances for adoption.
Please Adopt from here! The reason this place is sometimes dirty or the staff isnt always the friendliest is because they are a city run shelter. They are understaffed and rely heavily on donations and they must accept every cat and dog that is brought to them.I hate the fact that they euthanize animals and I believe they do it quite unfairly. I came from long island to adopt a sweet pit bull mix who was going to be euthanized due to his kennel cough. He is the best dog I have ever had and I could not be happier with him. I waited several hours to adopt him but it was well worth it in the end. Not only did I get an amazing best friend but I also know I saved his life from this terrible place. Please rescue your dogs and cats from here, you will not regret it.

I find it funny how every cat I was interested in, when I went to inquire about him/her to the receptionist the results she pulled up on the computer said it had already been adopted. Yet the info attached to the cage made no note of her claims. This was my favorite line: Atarah is not adopted but on hold. We dont normally do that however a mother and son came in to adopt but they needed a Spanish interpretor for their consultation on taking the kitten home. After getting service like this I just turned around and left. Basically it was decided before I could even make a case for myself that I dont provide a good home for a pet and its a shame that a persons prejudice can cause these animals to continue to not have homes. The staff try to play the card where they say Its to lower the chance of the animals ending up back in a shelter. That can be really emotional damaging to the animal. But in all actuality its about their own egos and power trips. The adopt, dont shop movement is only for a certain demographic of people. Ill be looking into my local pet store/breeder.
A super loving and wonderful shelter. Theyre the only open shelter in NY, meaning they take in any animal the city or people send their way. With a 95% placement rate, this shelter is doing some amazing work. The staff and vets on site and incredibly knowledgeable and helpful.
Although when I came here I had the misfortune of not being able to bring back home with me a cat or dog of my own, I received the best customer service possible here. The employees and volunteers are so informative and in no way do you feel pressured to take home an animal that doesnt feel right for your home, the way that some pet adoption places do,At Animal Care and Controls Manhattan location, the workers genuinely care about you and the animals
Ill never donate again ill tell you that much had a cat stuck on my buildings scaffold for 2 days I cant reach it and it hasnt eaten in 2 days someone threw it out and ac&c said theres nothing they can do because they dont help animals on scaffolds and fire escapes and if its not injured they definitely cant help does starving to death count as injured?
I adopted my first (of now many) Chihuahua, 17 years ago this month from the ACC of Manhattan. I was going to leave without adopting when this kind older man who was moping the floors stepped in and changed the course of my life. He asked me why I didnt adopt anyone? I told him the dogs were all too big for me and my lack of experience. He said you didnt see the small dog room? I said, no its ok I hate small dogs. He said. you hate small dogs? Well then I got the perfect dog for you. He then proceeds to lead me to a cage with a little brown Chihuahua in it. I said, no way this is not a dog, this is a Chihuahua. He said, I know, this guy is real cool, hes a tough guy, he walks like a bulldog, take him out and get to know him. So I did. And it was written. I think of that man EVERDAY of my life, had I not run into that man (older black man, janitorial position, navy blue uniform 4/2003) my life would have ended up in a bad way and I would have never adopted a Chihuahua. Ever. Over the years my Chihuahuas have saved my life and vice versa. If anyone at the ACC knows who this angel of a man was please let him read this. He was one of my guardian angels, I know this for sure. His moment of care and concern for myself and those animals on death row changed the course of my life forever. I have since adopted/fostered/rescued 9 Chihuahuas and taken in over 100 cats and kittens off the streets. All because of this man.I know working at these shelters is a tough job but these people do try and if you see the stats they have improved in all aspects dramatically since I adopted from them.God Speed to all.
I was not able to find a cat that fit my lifestyle at ASPCA on 92nd but they referred me to ACC. Met with a very helpful and friendly staff member and met the love of my life, Mr Frost Lee, a stray beautiful male black cat. Adoption was easy and the other staff member who helped with paperwork and interview was excellent. Cannot thank you guys enough!
Recently visited, people arent left to roam around anymore, the counselors are in the second floor ready to help. I just adopted another cat and Im happy. process was easy, always a good amount of pets available

I was prepared to be sad when I came here to adopt a cat. The opposite happened. The staff here is great. They take care of the animals. I was blown away by the kindness to the kitties. Thanay went out of her way to help me.
Staff is nice but there was a lot of miscommunication. I was told my pup was healthy but i could not take him home until he was fixed as per law, then i was told I had until the same day to pay the reunification fee but wasnt told I needed exact change after going to a local store to get that I was told not to pay until the day he was coming home because there were no receipts but called the day before to be told I had to pay or he would not be able to be sent home then called day of to be told despite being told he was healthy he had health issues which he cant go through with the operation and i would recieve part of my money back in 6 weeks and oh.. he has a cold now.. this was all about 4 days but the first day they were very nice so I didnt mind

They were very caring and understanding when I had to put both my boys down. They were so apologetic and let me take as much time as I needed before they were put down and after. My boys health issues became worse when my aunt got sick and passed within her 69 days in the hospital on life support. They understood and saw how bad my babies were.

If I could give zero stars, I would.I recently adopted a kitten from here on exactly June 22nd. It first started with a few days of bliss, new kitten, playing with him and running around. Then I started to notice some lethargic behaviors. Uninterested in food, toys and water. I began to worry. His eyes seemed extremely pink around the lashes and watery and all he did was sleep. Took him to the vet about a week and a half ago and came back home with $75 less in my pocket for some antibiotics to treat his possible sinus infection; the same price I paid to adopt him out of this shelter. That same day I called the shelter to try to talk to someone about his condition, since his medical history stated he was apparently healthy. A week later, his condition did not improve. Now today July 14th, I am $177 in debt from another vet for taking x rays to see what really is causing the phlegm in his chest and congestion. Plus the $150 for the adoption fee and antibiotics.My 2 month old kitten adopted barely a month ago from this place has pneumonia. Something I was not prepared to handle and something this kitten is going to have to bare with me in order for me to figure out a plan.I have called repeatedly to get someone to talk to, for anyone to help me with this situation, and they either dont answer my calls or pretend not to hear me on the other end. I do NOT want this kitten to DIE.But Thank You, AC&C.
Senior manager John was very rude and unprofessional. They ghosted my 3 applications, were very rude over the Email, and they deleted my wife from their Facebook group. This is literally the worst shelter in the Tri state area. Find a lovely animal elsewhere.
I visited today in the hopes of adopting a rabbit and I left insulted upset and with no rabbit. I was told that as a 22 year old I would need my mothers permission to adopt a rabbit even though I was the one financially responsible for all animals in my house and would be for the rabbit. I then went into the room with all the rabbits and was then subjected to what felt like a police interrogation by the volunteer. She had some concerns which fully understood but I have owned rabbits for many years and the volunteer was not willing to compromise in the slightest to help me take a rabbit home. I felt judged and a lot of attitude when all I wanted to do was give a loving home to a rabbit in need of one. I will never go back and I feel very sorry that another rabbit has to live out its life in a shelter simply because of the rude and inappropriate attitude of the rabbit volunteer.
I hate people talking to me like I’m an idiot based on my nervousness. I find that places that treat me poorly are immediately blacklisted from further interactions. I rarely make exceptions.Went to the ACC on Friday evening to take a look at cats. Finally have The Holy Trinity of Stability.I’m exhausted after a long day. I walk into the shelter and I’m nervous. Didn’t seem safe to me to just waltz up the stairs so I wait for the receptionist. They tell me I can go take a look at the cats.Go upstairs, ask another person if I can go in just to double check. They tell me to check the cats out and I could take an application if interested. I didn’t go there to just check them out and leave, I intended to find a cat! I’m excited!And meticulous. I read all the kennel cards and notice there’s a variety of colored stickers. Some have letters, some don’t, and there’s no real way to tell by reading the cards if they have any important behavioral or medical issues. Some of the cards have some information but there is no consistency. So I do what any mildly neurotic person would do: inquire about the organizational system. Simple questions when the entire kennel card revolves around this system.I’m told that A or B is okay. But that explains nothing when they don’t know what I am looking for to begin with, and they have no idea what my previous cat experience is like. Pretty much on my own at this point. Pity.Don’t stick around after that but I ask about interactions. They tell me come whenever, bring my child, and take an application. However, I’m not pleased with being spoken to like I don’t know what I’m looking for in a cat. And I am especially not pleased with having my questions dismissed like I’m the idiot because I don’t know what the colors and letters mean.I take the application with little intention of coming back, then immediately tell everyone I know about how I went to the ACC and they treated me like dirt.Sunday. Go to the ASPCA. Won’t adopt to me because my child is too young. Naturally, my child’s upset that after all the research, reading, learning and preparing, they can’t have a cat because a stranger deems them too young.Sad day.Determination and spite drives me, but enough about that. I’m saddled with litter, a litter box, and food because come hell or high water (or the USPS ignoring a redelivery request), I am going to be prepared for a cat. Today, Sunday. I walk from 92nd to 110th to the ACC armed with limited knowledge of this organization’s organization and Karen’s “Can I speak to the Manager?” voice.I enter the cat room, and I find a volunteer. I ask about the organizational system again and am surprised that the person not only answers all my questions, but is extremely knowledgeable in general. Very kind.A stark contrast from before. I immediately relax. I talk about what I’m looking for. She encourages my child to explore and allows us to interact with the cats of my choice. I am cognizant of a cat’s needs and I explain that I have been researching and double triple quadruple quintuple checking my info.I also tell them about my previous visit and how I was close to never coming back based on that.They were appalled, but happy I decided to give them another chance. I appreciate that they were much more helpful this time. Im happy to welcome Paisley home after shes been spayed.Would I direct someone to this shelter first? Only if they had steely resolve and patience. Would I give five stars? Absolutely not.To the organization itself: You need more training for commonly asked questions and concerns, and communication skills especially since there was such a dichotomy between one experience and another.Regardless, I imagine that your image would’ve been forever tainted if I had been able to adopt from the ASPCA that day. Irredeemable, irreparable. I imagine it’s like that for a lot of people already for similar experiences to my own.You have a lot of good people there. You need more than you have. Good luck out there.
NYCACC adoption employees were extremely thorough, patient, and genuinely want to help these animals find their forever homes. Come here at least 2 hours before they close if you’re hoping for same day adoption to have ample for researching medical histories and to complete application process!

I found a dog that had been abandoned in a park and I turned him in to this ACC. The intake staff was very friendly and seemed to really care about the dog. He looks really happy and well taken care of in the pictures they posted of him now that hes available for adoption.
Adopted a rabbit from here 3 months ago and could not be happier with him. The rabbit volunteers I was in contact with were also very dedicated and helpful. At the end of the day, its about the animals and giving one a home. And, they have so many that need them.

2021-12-31I adopted my lovely cat Rosie from here back in August. It’s not a happy place, given that it’s filled with homeless animals and is extremely crowded, but that’s all the more reason to support this facility and adopt or foster an animal from here.The process in August, and I believe it’s still the process now, was you 100% need to make an appointment on their website to come in to see the animals. Many animals (at least cats) can go home the same day; some are finishing up medications and need to stay for a few more days or weeks, but they’ll hold the animal for you until they’re ready to come home. I brought my kitty home the same day, and in the past four months, we have bonded very well. The adoption fees are very reasonable, and the application process is quite easy and straightforward. Outside of making the appointment to come in, the adoption process was literally a one-afternoon affair for me. I could not be happier with my decision to adopt from ACC!

2022-01-12Where do I even begin. You all are amazing. My dear coco passed away while I was in NYC this weekend. You all made this traumatic experience just a bit easier. I just got my baby’s paw prints in the mail with a nice card and just wept. Thank you for taking coco.

2022-03-03The staff was very friendly and kind. They made sure we would get a perfect fit and we did . We were so happy to adopt Henny ! She is so funny , full of energy and very loving ! She just needed a home where she can consume uncontrollable love 24/7. My husband and I are definitely looking forward into saving another friend from this center down the line ! I recommend 100% you will meet your match here ! Also same one day processing time if you serious about adopting.

2022-07-06I adopted my baby boy Shadow today and cant thank ACC and Isabella enough for everything they provided to get me ready to take care of him. Shadow is already the love of my life and he was so well loved during his stay here. Thank you to everyone for what you do for these animals they are lucky to have you!

2021-08-29My wife and I picked up our dog from there recently - the dog was starting to develop some slightly aggressive habits with other dogs since she was living in the shelter.We took her home and in 4 days shes really settled in. Super friendly with everyone just wanting to cuddle etc. Visiting the ACC is hard because you want to take all the animals home. The staff are friendly, kind and supportive.If you have the time and energy to put into your pet, then adopt one from here, save a life, gain a best friend and do some good.

2022-06-23FEB 2021 **IN PERSON**(my INITIAL phone experience was not a particularly positive one...but I will chock that phone experience up to bad luck. My second phone experience was excellent and the individual who called me was extremely knowledgeable and gracious.) Today I went in person (I had an appointment as per current covid regulations) for a first meeting of a dog in need of fostering/adoption. Due to covid restrictions there is a strict protocol to follow and I would imagine this inhibits more people from getting involved. It was absolutely worth the wait and effort-- and I am glad I did not allow my initial negative phone experience to influence my decision to move forward with an in person appointment. I interacted with two staff members and both were professional and very nice. The staff member who brought out the dog for me to meet was extremely knowledgeable about the dog and very personable. She was honest and direct with me and we discussed the positives and possible drawbacks associated with this particular dog. I happen to be very experienced with fostering, rescues, and the general handling of abused/unpredictable/possibly dangerous dogs-- however, I was extremely impressed with this staff interaction and if I had been an inexperienced, unsure individual I am confident the associates would have explained all details&requirements and risks at length and if they deemed me an inappropriate match they would not moved forward with the meet and greet.FOLLOW UP 1 YEAR LATER:I ended up adopting the dog I went to see. He is absolutely one of the most wonderful dogs I have ever had. Hes extremely intelligent, takes commands in two languages, is wonderful around children& adults, is playful& trustworthy with other dogs large and small, and lives happily with a parrot and two snakes who are handled several times a week. He had been classified as a biter/ dangerous dog and I can only guess that he may have been suffering from trauma or kennel stress during his evaluations because while hes an excitable and athletic guy hes generally extremely sweet and a totally trustworthy big boy.

2022-03-03My family dog died unexpectedly on Saturday and we took his body to the Animal care center. The staff was very compassionate. They cremated our beloved Monchy and were kind enough to send a personalized card along with his paw prints. During this very difficult time it was great to feel supported by this amazing organization.

2022-06-25My reason for coming here was very sad but this place is truly wonderful. Someone named Eric helped me & my fur baby, he was polite, helpful & respectful. The place is very clean, all staff & volunteer members helpful. I will continue to come here & to donate as well!

2022-06-21Workers here are nice, specially Erick who help me reunite with my dads pet. Even though its his day off, hes tryin to help me. He has a lot of patience and very helpful. I highly recommend him if you need help about pet.
