Animal General in other cities:
All the staff and Vets are professional , caring , organized and wonderful . Dr Shea has been caring for Chloe my Labradoodle for a few years now and has performed 2 surgeries on her . She is compassionate , caring , and very professional . Always returns a call and will answer any questions an concerns . The staff always follow up to check on Chloe post surgery . We are fortunate to have Dr Shea as Chloe’s Vet. Again the team of Vets and staff are wonderful, always. Since the pandemic , Animal General have implemented a very safe protocol with comfortable bench seating outdoors .I highly recommend Animal General .
I have been taking my cat to AG for years. When she was 10 years old she was diagnosed with congestive heart failure. I attribute Dr. Yangs expertise to saving her life - shes now 16 and goes in for an echocardigram every year. She also tore her ACL when she was 14, and again AG did right by her and called in an excellent surgeon to repair her knee. She goes to AG regularly and I trust their judgement and am grateful for their service.
We took our cat for her wellness check - Whether it be making the appointment, speaking with the people who bring the animals back or meeting with the vet; everyone was so incredibly nice. I know that our cat was in good hands. Also, the vet really gave us great advice! She talked us through everything they wanted to do (shots, FeLV test, etc) as she was a kitten from a shelter. It made me feel like they had the animals best interest at heart. Ill definitely be back!PS: They must have treated her well because when we got home she was already ready to play.
Since Animal General has gone corporate, the service and pricing are almost unrecognizable. Add in the surge of individuals adopting animals during covid, and you have a recipe for disaster. Amimal General has consistently accepted new business despite the fact that it doesnt have capacity to acceptably treat or service existing customers. On numerous occasions, theyve sent our dog home with incomplete or wrong medication. Theyve tried vaccinating our fully vaccinated puppy while she was visiting for bowel concerns. Weve left with $400+ bills for run of the mill check ups. Being unresponsive, misdiagnosing and mistreating animals, and then price gouging customers is NOT an acceptable business model.
This place is truly amazing. All the vets are so caring and compassionate. My puppy Cinnamon doesnt even get nervous going in. She wags her tail and wants to see them (even after they gave her shots!!). We normally see Dr. Stuchin but all the doctors are so great. Dr. Stuchin was on vaction this week and she texted Dr. Pines and asked her to check on Cinnamon who had been sick. It was so nice! My only comment is that it can be expensive but I really believe you are getting top quality care.
Animal General is AMAZING. When I found a rescue kitten just 2 weeks old not one other facility would help me. They took him in and cared for him for 6 weeks until he was 2 pounds and ready to come home. Thomas is now almost 3 years old and doing great. Since that amazing experience they provided me I quickly switched vets and now take my Emma there too! Why is AG amazing? They are most professional. The quality care they provide is superb. Their doctors credentials are excellent. I trust them. Their prices are in step with others in the neighborhood. Always helpful and warm they treat me like family. Thank you AG for your OUTSTANDING CARE and LOVE of my pets :) Arlene
I was a brand new client at Animal General Hospital on the West Side and had a very sick dog. Dr. Geer could not have been more responsive, caring, insightful or willing go above and beyond to ensure my elderly pet with complex symptoms was properly diagnosed, medicated, and headed toward recovery. She made herself continually available by phone and email, and responded immediately to my updates (and panic). Her smarts and patience—and relentless kindness—made all the difference to the management of this crisis and my dog’s return to health. I am forever in her debt and so grateful to the desk staff at Animal General, who facilitated last minute appointments and prompt access to needed medication.
Great staff, from front desk to the vets. Theyre helpful and really want your pet to feel great. They know people can get flustered when people are sick and dont let that get to them. Plus, they go above and beyond to follow up with you. Their hours are a great plus, hard to find vets open so early or so late, very helpful for people with regular 9-5s
Ive been bringing my cats to this clinic for years. So far, my experiences have been really good. Nice facilities, trustworthy doctors, great techs. It was very important to me that when my cat got cancer the vet didnt try to get us to do expensive treatments. And complimentary nail trims are a great plus for those of us with difficult beasts!
I recommend Animal General with all my heart. When I adopted from them, I was so impressed by the staff I continued to use them as my primary vet, even though they arent conveniently located for me. The doctors are knowledgeable and compassionate. When the wonderful Dr. Klafin was out, the other vets were able to step in and provide seamless care. They were able to navigate my pets chronic health issues, even when he had an atypical response to medication. Every staff member is helpful and pleasant. I wish I had healthcare like this for myself!
My husband and I trust Animal General for all our pets medical needs. The staff is warm and professional. Doctors are excellent. We dont mind traveling from Throggsneck each time. Whenever we have the need to bring them in staff are able to accommodate our needs. I wouldnt take them any place else. My insurance claims are filed without a problem which is a plus. I recently registered Bo and Bear with Camp Canine for Day Care and Boarding where staff there quickly recognized and had great things to say about Animal General. A great confirmation in itself.
I adore Animal General. More importantly, my dog Lulu, an English Springer Spaniel, has friends there, beginning with Paul Howell, various other doctors and techs, and dear Mary, who fields my many needs with aplomb and wit. The doctors are caring and endlessly patient. Weve had a long year of treating an issue with my pet and Dr. Howells patience and steady hand has made the difference between a withering experience or one buoyed by hope. Do not hesitate to have your pet cared for at Animal General.
I have had only good experiences at Animal General. Dr. Stein did a fantastic job spaying/neutering and doing a checkup for the three kittens I rescued and fostered. She has been very helpful with my followup questions. The receptionists have also been very professional, caring and helpful.
My daughter found Animal General when her cat got very sick, and the one thing she likes the most is that you can call them at anytime and someone will answer all your questions. They provide you with in home remedies or they can advice you on weather the condition needs a doctors opinion. Price wise, theyre very budget friendly. I highly recommend this clinic/hospital to anyone who has a loving family pet.
Rest assured that you will find the best veterinary care here at Animal General. Ive been bringing cats and dogs here for a number of years. The care and guidance is the best around. And the staff overall is a caring and efficient team. A very positive, supportive experience every time.
I had a wonderful dog from her birth in 1988 until we euthanized her in 2004.We lived primarily on the upper west side, and also in the Catskill Mountains and Long Island. We had vets in the 3 locations and tried several doctors over the years.Without a doubt, Animal General and Dr. Paul Howell are at the top of the profession. He exhibits extensive experience, wisdom and understanding. In 2014 a new rescue dog joined my family. Over these 3 years I feel we have received top of the line care and advice , and you all know how important our dogs are to us in this era.
Ever since our poodle took part in puppy play at Animal General 10 years ago, he has loved coming to Animal General. He has had a number of health issues, and through it all has been treated by terrific vets and a wonderful staff. I am so very grateful to director, Paul Howell, and his fellow veterinarians for keeping our poodle healthy and happy.
I have been going to Dr. Howell and Animal General since I got my first rescue dog, Peppy in 1992. The staff at Animal General are caring and kind to me and to all my animals. They have been there for me and my dogs through the good times and tough times. I highly recommend them.
I cant recommend or commend Animal General highly enough. Ive been a client for 20+ years and my animals have always received compassionate and professional care. I can always trust their doctors advice for both routine and complicated medical treatment. They treat my hard to handle pets with the same attention and patience as the easy cases. Viva Animal General.
Ive been using the services of Animal General since I adopted my rescue dog Dakota last November. They have been extremely welcoming and thorough (I consider returning phone calls in a timely way and following up medical procedures with phone contact extremely thorough). It appears to be very well run and maintained
I have been going to Animal General with my cats and dogs for nearly 30 years. The staff is attentive and compassionate. The veterinarians are excellent diagnostitions and my confidence in the hospital has only increased over the past 30 years. I wouldnt go anywhere else.
I have used animal general for all my cats over the years. The vets, nurses, techs etc have all been kind to me and my cats and more importantly excellent professionals. AG has helped me as well my animals get through some pretty bad experiences - except with their help medically and with their compassion we all survived well. The worse was when my cat, an AG adoptee, got breast cancer. But they got expert surgeons and pathologists and Kitty and I survived. Sometimes a cat just gets very ancient and the ailments they have cant be cured. They came to my house so I could hold her during her last moments. AG is a very special place and I would encourage you to trust your pets to them. I cant sing their praises too high, they are that good.
I have been bringing my dogs to Animal General for nearly 18 years..and I have relied on them for the best care and I have never been disappointed. My previous dog, Mugsy, lived to almost 17, and we depended on them, from the time she was 8 weeks old...thru 2 oral surgeries and wellness care for her last 2 years, as she was determined to keep going despite her age. My new boy, an adoptee from Puerto Rico, arrived underweight, and needing a lot of nurturing and care. With Dr. Howell and Dr. Yang overseeing his health, he is now thriving, with a thick, shiny coat and bright eyes. I continue to recommend Animal General to dog friends...and I especially am reassured by their continued interest in keeping up with the latest research from veterinary schools. And their love of dogs.
I have been coming to Animal General for many years. The doctors are fabulous, especially Dr. Howell and Dr. Yang. I would never go anywhere else. You always get one on one special care. All the people who work there are terrific, especially Joy and Mary. I would never go anywhere else with my animals.
We dealt with Karen Mcqueen there and she was horrible. What a bad experience we had there because of her. Her customer service is just, no words. After looking her up personally online I see she has a habit of reviewing business with no care of the impact. I would steer clear of this place if she is still working there.
From her puppyhood to passing, our beloved Gracie received the kind of care we would wish for all our family members. The clinical and support staff were always kind, responsive and medically expert. And over our 14 shared years, we were so grateful that the people of Animal General were as comforting to us as they were to Gracie.
Penny Lane was adopted 14 years ago at Animal General. She has long-standing chronic medical issues, and she has been so well-cared for by Dr. Howell and all of the wonderful staff at Animal General. I highly recommend A.G. and will always have my pet cared for there!
I brought my cat in for his routine shots and found out his top canine teeth needed, most likely, extraction. Dr. Yang explained the procedure to me thoroughly, checked and triple checked that the teeth did actually need to come out, and recommended I schedule a dental. After scheduling the dental exam on the phone (which was incredibly easy, and the person I spoke with answered a lot of questions for me), I brought my cat in to become semi-toothless and have sparkling remaining teeth. Jennifer called me when the procedure was done and updated me on my cats status, saying those 2 teeth 100% needed to come out according to the X-rays, but the rest of his teeth were in great shape. She answered a plethora of questions for me as well, and told me when I could come get my cat. When I picked him up, she went over home care instructions with me and again updated me on my cats status. She also informed me hed been given a long-lasting pain killer and antibiotic injection, so I didnt have to worry about any medicine at home - hooray! My cat, who is 4.5 years old, was immediately playing and eating as soon as we got home and his recovery has gone absolutely smoothly. I would highly recommend Animal General - they remind me of my beloved veterinary practice in Austin (Brodie Animal Hospital), so its been great finding a veterinarian up here who reminds me of my last home.
This place is fabulous ! Dr. Shea shes super kind, alert, efficient and her interest is really the well-being of the animals. And for that reason I believe they are the only veterinary ,that do the TITER test before any unnecessary vaccinations. This is the most important thing for the health of your Pet. The majority of vets. they ignore the dangerous of over vaccination and continue to do so.Just for this particular reason, they stand out of the rest in name of Mother Nature. This is the best place to take your pet to.Honest and Respectful Animal Practice.Thank you, good people!
My wife and I have been taking our cats to Animal General for more than 25 years. Before that, we went to other Upper West Side vets—but they don’t compare. All of the people at Animal General are helpful, friendly and caring—to pets and their owners. We wouldn’t go anywhere else.
I have used this place off and on for many years. Basically I only use them for emergencies now. They are very crazy about charging for their services. Recently, my dog was being cared by a friend while I was away. The dog had diarrhea . My friend took him to animal general, they said they found nothing wrong with him, Meanwhile they charged my friend $515 for this diagnoses. This is in line with other experiences I have had with them. I have had to question charges as they sometimes charge for things I did not receive. Medications for example. In addition I have never got the same veterinarian twice, which makes me wonder what their work practices are. These are the reasons I no longer use them.
Dr. Howell is a Doggie Rock Star! My sweet Maizie has been suffering from ear infections and has had various treatments, but unfortunately the infections still returned. But Dr. Howell tried something different and it totally took care of it!!!!The Staff and all of the vets there are wonderful and caring. I would never trust my baby girl with any other place than Animal General.
I have been at Animal General for almost thirty years! It keeps getting better and better!!! Dr. Howell and Dr. Yang are amazing. Vet tech Jenn and all the staff show so much care for all the animals. Little Gabriel and I are grateful to be in their care.TWO PAW UP!!!
I have been with Animal General for something like fifteen years. they have treated my variety of populations - dogs and cats - with compassion for both the animals and for me. Prior to being with them I used various resources including Animal Medical Center (Im glad its there but its hideously expensive). But Animal General is now my go-to animal center.
Where do I start? They’re so good and caring, SERIOUSLY! They took such good care of my Lola before, during, and after her surgery! They’re so helpful I couldn’t get her to take her meds so they would give her injectables and keep her while we were at work, always, ALWAYS called to follow up and check in after every visit. So attentive and caring they actually listen and really help you to find a solution! Dr. Freedman was so helpful when they first diagnosed Lola and spent time researching and reaching out to specialists to help us find treatment options and solutions. They’re honestly such great caring people I’m so glad I found them. I pay for a banfield wellness plan but haven’t gone back since I found these guys! Thank you Animal General staff for taking such good care of my Lola!
I am Juana Mendoza. For many years I have been a client of the Animal General and I have always been very satisfied with its services. At this Cli-nic my cats are comfortable treated by its highly qualified veterinariansand as well as with all the staff. In addition the Animal Generals cozy atmosphere invites me and my pets to visit again.
I have, over the course of 30+ years and through several well-lovedpets, been a patient (and a fan) of ANIMAL GENERAL. In fact, I have joked consistently over that period of time that I would be happy if only I could find a personal physician in whom I might place the same degree of trust as I have in Paul Howell and the staff of Animal General. Simply the best.
I am still boiling mad over this. After shopping around for teeth cleaning for 2 dogs in NJ and several New England animal clinics, we were pleasantly surprised when we found Animal General quoting reasonable prices. We made an appt to for an office consultation. On that day, the doctor told us there was a sliding scale of prices. Everything seemed to appear routine especially given that my 2 dogs both had teeth cleaning done 2 years ago in Omaha NE at $320 each. They quoted us $348. On the day of the cleaning, I get a call that all went well and that one of my dogs needed 4 teeth extractions because they were loose. I have no idea why the doctor didnt tell us that on the day of the consultation. If you cant tell they are loose on the day of the consultation, they are not loose in my opinion and certainly fine for my dog. So after having paid half the cost ($348) of what we thought would be ~$696, I show up and my balance is $860! - bringing the total cost to $1208. This is not how business should be done. You cant just increase costs like this without informing the client. Thats more than double what the client expected. That can put someone at great financial risk. While I appreciate their judgment, I still have to pay for it and that should be my choice. I have to prioritize costs all the time even with things I need. I would have been happy going on again for teeth extraction on another day. Its unethical to do this to people.
Kindness and professionalism are the rule at Animal General. The doctors, nurses and technicians never fail to deliver top notch medical attention, delivered in a caring way. 4 different dogs Ive had and continue to have prove that this consistency is something we can rely on.
This was the only vet in the area that stepped forward today when I found a dying bird in the park. They were caring and considerate and truly went out of their way to help an injured animal without profiting one dime themselves. I will be bringing my dog here from now on. A vet that puts a love of animals above a love of money is rare in Manhattan, and they earned a new patient and a ton of thanks!
I will not say is bad or good. I will let you decide. My sisters cat fractured its leg and needed X-rays and a cast. Initially she was given a bill of $3000.00. My sister who is a college student told them she could not pay that. SOMEHOW the bill was reduced to $900! When it was time to remove the cast they told her $800. My sister a college student (once again) became anxious because she obviously couldnt afford that. I called the clinic to inquire the price of taking off the cast AND the secretary couldnt tell me at all and began to mumbled. She put me on hold and came back and said that the visit was $85 + X-rays which START at $189. I asked why does it START at &189? She said in case they need more?
This review is for the wonderful young lady who works here that took in a pigeon I found when no one else would help me. A few weeks ago I found this wounded pigeon outside in the cold, and everyone I approached ignored me when I asked where I can go for this pigeon to receive medical help. I ended up going on google searching for a animal hospital close by and this was one of a few hospitals that I found. When I walked in, it looked like they were getting ready to close, however the nice young lady (her name was Chaya) listened to me and accepted the pigeon from me. She didn’t turn me away like the other people I approached. What a wonderful and lovely young lady. May God bless her wonderful heart!

2022-01-15Kind and thorough. Ive been taking my cat here for years and am thinking of switching my dog to come here as well. My cat can be a bit of a handful, and they always assure me that they can handle him and are happy to do so. They tend to have more convenient hours, be more flexible in accommodating emergencies, and they are super responsive and communicative - checking in after visits etc. I also appreciate their approach to Covid compliance, though I can see how it would be frustrating for some to not be able to go inside with their pet. It really feels like they are responsibly public health focused.

2022-05-27I took my late senior, and now my current puppy, to Animal General, we have seen all of the vets by now, and we absolutely love this practice! All of the doctors and staff are extremely smart, professional, and have outstanding bedside manner with patients and pet parents. My senior was a complicated patient, but the doctors always handled his medical problems well and took fabulous care of him. When he was sick with cancer, Dr. Pines always took my calls and advised us, and when he passed away we received calls from Dr. Pines and the front desk to express condolences and talk about his passing. It meant so much to me because I could tell that my dog was truly cared for. When we showed up, people recognized my senior, and when I call the staff recognize me and are always quick to help and so friendly. I cant say enough nice things about Animal General and all the doctors and staff here! They truly do a wonderful job, even when I was not living in NYC I would travel to and from appointments because I trust this practice, and they deliver such a high standard of care. And of course, they are AAHA accredited!

2018-09-21Dr Shea is Xenas FAVORITE DR EVER!!!! Meaghan is amazing and so is the office manager (I want to say Theresa), please forgive me. They have ALWAYS been good to me and my baby girl. I would NEVER go any where else. If you EVER have a issue with your animal, I swear by this place. They really care! My baby girl is a blue nose pitbull and they have no fear in the world thus I know she receives the proper care. I love them and they are our family...

2019-10-05Wonderful group of professionals who genuinely care about your furbaby. Weve been going there for decades. The vets follow your animals case carefully and call and do outreach/education to make sure you know how to do everything (eg giving insulin shots). They discuss with you all of your options. Weve had routine care visits, some serious illnesses with our pets, travel documents to be processed, and sadly cremations that they have handled with professionalism and compassion. Highly recommend.

2021-06-27Such a phenomenal experience with Animal General. My pup had an emergency situation on a Saturday and they squeezed her into their schedule without a problem. Each person on staff who I communicated with was beyond compassionate, transparent, and empathetic. They clearly understood the stress associated with an emergency vet situation and assured me throughout the entire process that all would be okay. From initial call to pick up, the team provided frequent and clear updates on my pup’s status and I felt I had a clear understanding of everything throughout the entire process. I couldn’t recommend Animal General enough! If you’re looking for a place to take your pet and trust that you can be at ease, look no further.

2022-05-18I found a tiny little bird outside my apartment and didnt know what to do.... but because of this institution, that little guy has a chance to live and fly. If I had left him there on the streets, he would have been rats food... so thank you Animal General! You are saving many lives

2017-02-22The days of the phone call check in after an appointment are all but gone but not for Dr Howell who wanted to simply check in on our pup Dr Tim Whatley who had a case of giardia. Hes took great care of Whatley and follow up was kind and welcome! Love this place for their gentle care and the time spent educating us! Would recommend in a heartbeat!

2022-02-01They take excellent care of my boy. The staff is lovely and so kind to all the pets. Their hours make life easy too!
