Went for lunch on a weekday. I ordered a vegetarian thali. The food was delicious, hot and perfectly spicy. Just like it should be. The staff is well trained, friendly. Also got a special sweet dish after finishing my meal. Service was quick, good place to go to for a homely lunch. Although its on a busy street, indoor sitting is nice and quiet.
Anjappar (Southern Indian cuisine) is one of my favorite restaurants in all of New York City. My girlfriend and I frequent the place at least once a month (for takeout now) but often more. I was first exposed to Northern Indian food on Londons Brick Lane. The first time I had it, it was an explosion of wonderful flavors that I had never experienced before. I quickly fell in love then with Northern Indian food, the most popular Indian cuisine outside of India. Recently, I have fallen in love with Indian food all over again. This time I have discovered Southern Indian food at Anjappar. Southern Indian cuisine, Anjappars specialty, has introduced me to an array of incredible dishes and flavors that I never knew existed. And now, Southern Indian food at Anjappar is my favorite food on planet Earth. Lastly, the staff is really lovely, especially the manager. He takes great pride in what he does. I cannot recommend Anjappar enough! If you are looking for extremely authentic Southern Indian food, my girlfriend tells me (shes from Southern India), Anjappar is the place. And if you are new to Southern Indian food, but are looking for a new and exciting culinary experience that will open your eyes at the sheer possibilities of truly amazing food from another part of the world, then Anjappar is also for you.
This is a fine Indian restaurant with decent ambiance. Our piping hot dishes like Crab Masala were excellent, and the service was great. Anjappar Chicken masala was available with dark meat. There is also a nice selection of vegan offerings if my daughter is in town. We will be back again for the bold flavors and proper rice.
When an Indian restaurant serves you bread made from frozen chapati and frozen naan, you dont go there. Period. Needless to say more about the highly priced food and sub standard taste. But still adding more info, ordered Fish 65 and they are using frozen fish, you could easily tell from bland taste of the fish.. the goat meat was frozen as well and didnt taste good. Horrible experience overall.
Great menu. Well sourced and fresh ingredients. We’ve been here many times and each time the food has been quite flavorful with very artful presentation. The waiters are well dressed and very well educated about the food and have always provided exceptional service. Even though it took a while to get my Paper Masala Dosa overall this is a great restaurant that I will continue to visit.
This was my first experience at Anjappar and it did not disappoint. The place was packed when we arrived and we were able to get two seats at the front. I had the pepper chicken, delicious but not really spicy. I didn’t mind though it was really good. For main course we tried the Dindigul Biriyani which was awesome. Definitely recommend.
We had stopped at Anjappar for a late lunch around 4:30 PM. The restaurant is partially closed between 4:30 - 5:30 PM so that the staff and chefs can take a break. But the restaurant was more than happy to seat us and were very gracious. The food was really good. We had ordered the Chicken Lollipop for appetizer, which was delicious. It was crunchy on the outside and juicy on the inside. We eventually ended up ordering the chicken lollipop again. We also ordered the Kerala Porotta and Nadan Kozhi Varatiyadu, which was again exceptional. We also ordered the Idiyappam with chicken curry, the fish curry and prawns 65. All of the food was really good.. Since the chef was taking a break, there were only serving a limited menu, but the staff did order complimentary bowls of biriyani which was also good. We washed it down with two filter coffees. Definitely recommend Anjappar for anyone visiting New York and want to try Indian food. It might not be a fancy restaurant, but it has authentic Indian tastes and should be explored.
Great food, friendly service and the quality stands out. I did take out on couple of occasions and this place didnt disappoint. The food taste, quality and service was consistent. I like the Indian breads this place offers - Naan garlic, Parotta they all seem to be great. Curries we tried Paneer Butter Masala and Eggplant are very flavorful and well made. They have good Appetizers as well. I would say, you cannot go wrong at this place.
I came here with a group of 6 today to have lunch. I must say this place is a gem. They serve the best curries in town. We all had samba biryani, fish curry, Sukka Varuval and couple of curries. Don’t remember other curries name but they were all very delicious. We all left happily.
Food and service was very bad. We spent over 200 dollars for the food but taste was very bad. Biryanis tasted awful. Chicken briyani was just tomato rice with some boiled chicken with no flavor. They were using frozen parottas. They are also short staffed with very bad ambience and unclean restrooms.
Your entire experience once you enter the doors of Anjappar will amaze you!! From the top quality service, to the AMAZINGLY unique and decadent food… There are no holds barred!Every bite of each course was packed with amazing flavours and memorable spice combinations.I encourage you to really experience this in person!!My top choices are1. Chicken 652. Coconut Chicken Curry with Parotta.3.Dindigul Biriyani
VEGETARIANS BEWARE!Smelly, dark, unclean and rude is what this place is. If youre a vegetarian, do not even bother stepping foot in this place. They do not have a separate vegetarian korma or sambhar, all they do is pick out the vegetables and serve it without the chicken and the bones. We called for the korma and rice, they served the korma with bone pieces. When I complained to the server, he for some reason found this funny and started laughing. The chef came out to apologise but all he did was just defend his actions by saying that this in-fact is not a pure veg restaurant. My family and me walked out and dont intend on going back to this place EVER!
We went to Anjappar with lot of expectations.Ordered - Chicken Chettinad - 3 pieces of chicken and it was bit salty. Taste was not great. Over pricedNYT Non Veg Thali - Over priced. Biryani - hopeless, Chicken Curry - Hopeless, Lollipop - GoodOverall - Over priced, taste is hopeless. Any indian hotel in Newark Avenue has better taste and quaity
This place doesn’t deserve even a single ⭐️ too. Had a take out order of Samba mutton biryani, not even a single piece of mutton was cooked . Same with parotta n veg kurma and also Gobi 65, Not even a single piece of veggies were cooked. It was so disappointing after an hr drive and tasting a disgusting food. Just the veg biryani was manageable. Everything had to go into garbage. In the name of Anjappar how could you serve such kind of food. This place doesn’t even come near the door step of “REAL Anjappar” standards. For your information the order was placed on July 2 2022.
Average experience.. in from south India and the taste was more for NEwyorkers .. everything tasted less spicy. Chicken dry item was ok .. poondu kozhambu tasted really good but very liquidy (like Sambar or rasam).. loves the veechu parotta.. gulab jamun was outstanding too.. overall , wish it was more authentic :( good one for a once in a while meal. Service was good and quick .. keep it up guys
Nice Ambience. Suitable restaurant for both vegetarian and non-vegetarian menu. Quality of food is good. Veg and Chicken Thali is available during evening along with Ala-carte. Thali menu is ok. Taste is good. Not spicy at all. Ambience is very good. If the total order goes above $48, youll get free chicken/vegetarian biriyani( to-go or can have there). You can definitely give a try !!!
Location: It is easily accessible through metro 6. The entrance to the restaurant itself is very small. If you have stroller you will find it hard. I had been to this Anjappar 3 years back and it was good in the sense, probably different management. Not anymore. Also the entire restaurant is still remain old and I can see that sofa stitched and adjusted. Then comes the service, we had to ask again and again for stuff like salt, extra bowl. Don’t even think of going to restroom here - it is by far the worst and smallest and you will get burnt for going in. No ventilation. And they don’t clean it I guess. Then when we went this time the AC didn’t work and they didn’t take any measure for working it out. It was 86 outside. Worst experience. Food quality is fine. But thali is waste. Weekday no offers. Also they add 15% tip by themselves even if you go alone. Very rude.
Came for the chicken 65, which is done well here. I also tried some curries (the Anjappar chicken masala and the mutton sukka masala) and enjoyed those as well. The dessert (gulab jamun with ice cream) was good but tiny - too small to share unless you only want a couple bites; just something to be aware of. Note: this is a South Indian restaurant so if you order a north indian curry and dont find it authentic thats really on you. Reminds me of those people who go to a steakhouse and then complain the fish wasnt good 😹
We dined here for my husband’s birthday lunch. It was such an amazing experience. The food quality and quantity were great. Jay was very polite and he suggested best dishes to try for. Great service from you Jay👍🏻Nethili fry is a must try. Will recommend this place for good food for sure. Thanks for the amazing service guys.
Think twice before going to this restaurant.I am skeptical if this is an authentic Anjappar or not because of way this restaurant is maintained and operates. ??? Worst bathroom in any restaurant I have come across. I don’t know how it can still operate in this condition. The bathroom is extremely small and water all over the floor. This brings the question how the kitchen is maintained.I have been to Anjappar in Dallas and it was excellent both in terms of quality, taste and cleanliness. Nayanthra’s review will not attract more customers only a true customer experience will gain business.Mutton Briyani:It tasted like reheated food & less mutton pieces and the taste was not worth the money. The food was not hot.Fish 65:At least it was fresh and hot. Good quantity and the taste was ok, at least better than the briyani. The tables are setup uncomfortably close to each other. Average service.
Visited this place with a group of friends. The menu is very big and you have a lot of choices. I went with the stuffed mutton keema paratha which was really good and my friends had the traditional meals. We also got a free biryani with our order which was nice. The only complaint I have is that the restroom wasnt very clean.
Very good food and a great spice level! We got the mutton chukka varuval, mutton biryani, chicken kothu paratha, and the chicken chettinad roast. Would definitely recommend for great authentic tasting chettinad food! Big fan! Not sure why the rating of the place isnt higher, but yes would definitely recommend for some good spicy South Indian food! Also require proof of vaccination which is a great thing!
Its not difficult to find a good Indian restaurant, but it is not as easy to find a good South Indian restaurant; even more difficult to find one specializing in delicious regional food from Tamil Nadu. Visiting Anjappar Chettinad is like being transported to Chennai. Have a ghee masala dosa.
Fantastic place if you really want to get true authentic chetinand style cuisine. Really enjoyed there chetinand chicken roast , dosa is amazing too. Staffs are really welcoming and friendly. Must say one of my fav restaurant in the city . Definitely visiting again . 😊
Mango Lassi was good. Porgi(Sea Bream) fish curry was authentic and delicious if you like the tang of serious tamarind. The mutton biryani was flavorful and not oily. Fried idli was delicious but as you can imagine, a little oily :) It came with two excellent chutneys.Clean place, though a touch of paint here and there. Server named Jay was warm and welcoming and service was outstanding. We never waited for anything for more than a few seconds.Definitely coming back to try the rest of the menu.
Food is great. Best spicy taste that’s very very unique. Rasam is awesome. Our server Jai was exceptionally polite and friendly and tended to all our requests gave us all the information to pick the right dishes due to our restrictions. Will definitely recommend !!!! And very happy with service and food overall.
Oh my god!! I could travel to New York just to eat here. Don’t judge me. But that’s absolutely true. We went on the thanksgiving day this year and they had a special menu going on. We had the kozhli rasam, chicken lollipop, natu kozhi biryani and mutton varuval. I usually get the crab masala but they weren’t ready with that yet that day so I decided to try madras puzhu smth Kari. Everything was so freaking delicious.
If you crave for Chettinad style non vegetarian food then Anjappar is the place in New York. Food is a bit expensive and the quantity is less. But the quality of the food is ok. Try Egg kothu parotta or mutton Kari dosa. Service is pleasant. Ambiance is good with low lighting.
Food was below average, we got a great service from the waitress but unfortunately she was replaced with a very rude waiter. I order one of the unlimited lunch (only few stuff are unlimited such as rice, etc...) which is kind of misleading. when I ordered extra dessert the waiter told me laterally that I CANT SHARE with my friends, we thought he was joking but shockingly he was serious about it. I will never come back to this place.
No attention to detail. Ordered appam and mutton biriyani. The egg shells were not peeled properly as you can see in the photo. Appam stuck to the plate, was difficult to eat. Chettinad pepper fry was tasting like egg. Extremely overpriced for the service and quality of food
First beware they give 5% discount on the bill to customers if we post fake positive reviews. So any positive review you see is fake. Because the food and service is absolutely worst. I come from their home location - honestly the nyc branch matches nothing like that. I got parotta which was so dry and uncooked and finally i did not eat only. Never go there for authentic tamilnadu food.
Food is not up to Anjappar standards, please improve. Restrooms are too small and little dirty. Price is reasonable as per Indian restaurants. Service need to be improved. Dont cancel order if customer complains about the food being not good. Try to redo and improve. The place is too dark inside. Cant see what I am eating.
Visited Manhattan with family over Thanksgiving. I walked in with moderate expectations since it’s often hard to find decent Indian restaurants around serving authentic food (That I hail from Delhi isn’t going to help many restaurants). But this unassuming place has some amazing non-veg chettinadu items. The pomfret fish, mutton sukka and chicken lollipop, were the star items for us. We also experienced top level customer service. Both waiters really put in the effort and went beyond. Giving 4 stars so (a) you strive to maintain the great quality and (b) you improve the batter of your dosa so that it tastes better, and please also make the dosa a bit thicker.
Best dine-in South Indian (Tamil) food we have had on the East Coast. Our waiter Jay was wonderful and made great suggestions. Every thing we had reminded us of Eating in Tamil Nadu. We had a chicken biryani, south Indian Thali, fish fry, fish curry, chicken 65. Our kids enjoyed it as well.
We spent our thanksgiving at New York and Anjappar was a must visit for us. We took a dine in dinner and it went so well that we went for lunch the next day as well. We orderedSeeraga Samba Biryani - true to its originality taste wiseParotta and Chicken/Mutton gravy - two in a plate and was well beaten and soft. The gravy was delicious with a single piece of chicken or mutton. It was home calling.Chicken/ Mutton Chuka - no bone pieces so it was absolutely delicious to eat.Mutton Keema Dosa - served like a proper paper roast with stuffingChicken Biryani - basmati style BiryaniDesserts were limited to the popular ones so we had Gulaab jamoon served hot and a delicious pineapple rava Kesari with small pieces of pineapple in between. Oh and the Mango Lassi is a must have! I know it might feel like too much after all this but it’s light and served in the right quantity.Great hospitality and good food!!! Highly recommend this place for authentic Indian cuisine!
Enjoyed a great lunch with my family today at Anjappar. We had Biriyanis parottas and a few appetisers. All of them were really good and had true South Indian flavours. Mr.Jey gave us an exceptional service and we were certainly taken aback after our meal !Thanks for the great time. We look forward to coming back.
The food was delicious! Went here for the dosas and was blown away by the quality of the food and the kindness of the staff. Our server Jay was incredibly warm and friendly, and also suggested a delicious mutton appetizer (mutton sukka varuval). Will be back frequently!
Finally found an Indian restaurant. Tried Chicken biryani, parota chicken curry and both were delicious. Tried gulab jamun for dessert but it was too sugary. Great vibe for small crowds. The place can get crowded especially during dinner hours so ordering ahead is probably the best way to go.Bonus is you can get 10% discount on Student ID, make sure to carry one!!!There are many places around the restaurant to walk around and try out different Indian delicacies.
This place has 3.5 stars because of the service. I thought the service was slow but adequate. The floor was dirty but the bathroom is clean. Menu is on a QR code. The chicken lollipop was amazing, crispy on the outside while moist on the inside. The pepper chicken masala was excellent. Everything was well spiced. The naan was nothing to write home about. The meal was surprisingly cheap, $20/pp including tax and tip.
This place is by far the best South Indian restaurant I have been to in NYC. The food is great and they have a huge menu. The staff are very polite and informative. They suggested the seerga samba biryani to us and it’s our favorite now. Our go to place literally every weekend and they never disappoint. Totally recommend. Must try!!!
The food was really really good.It makes me to felt like home ..It reminds my mum cooking ..I almost completed the entire plate..the way they cooked was completely fresh /spicy as we get in india ..i had Garlic naan omg!!!taste smell makes me eat more and the price was good ...
It’s okay. Hard to find good South Indian food in NYC. There isn’t really much balance in the flavors. Probably because they don’t grind up the spices like they are supposed to.In all fairness, I used to like the spot before I had actually tried real South Indian food in Chennai or home cooked South Indian food. I guess “ignorance is bliss.”
The dosa was delicious and the chicken Tikka wasnt bad. It is a South Indian restaurant, so dont go there for authentic North Indian food. The service, however, was terrible. We were seated immediately ona Wednesday evening. We received our drinks quickly. Then we waited over 30 minutes for our order to be taken and then another hour for our food to arrive. They were not that busy and our order was literally the 2 things Ive already mentioned. Lots of complaints later, and the comped us some decent sooji halwa. IDK if this is how they usually operate, but the service was miserable.
I ordered pomfret fish curry omg it was awesome ...it taste really good..one of the best indian restaurant i had my food past these days in united states..tha quantity was more i cant even complete my plate..they served many dishes ..my favourite*(meen kolambhu/chicken 65/prawn masala/)..crab masala
Definitely some of the worst Indian food my family and I have ever had. The only upside was that our waitress was very kind and friendly. Having eaten at the Anjappar in Princeton, NJ multiple times before, we expected the one in NY to be as good as the one we usually eat at. However, it turned out to be the complete opposite. The two curries that we ordered were extremely greasy and had pools of oil floating on top. Both curries were not flavorful at all. When we complained, they said that it happened because they were very busy. Being located in a major metropolitan area, a restaurant is expected to get busy. I understand that working in a crowded restaurant can be very hectic and overwhelming but that is not an excuse for the food that is served to be of such poor quality. It was money down the drain and put simply, the food that we had was not worth the price. We hardly ate the curries. Unfortunately, our experience was not good and we left unsatisfied.
Ordered soup and asked if it can be split as 1/2 in two bowls and the server responded on a hasty and rude voice saying “we don’t do those things... We serve only in one bowl if you want you order two soups or I can give extra bowl” I have never heard such kind of answer before in any of the restaurants and was very surprised.Food was served and was good looking but couldn’t eat as they took a while to realise and give plates to eat.Overall food was good. Liked the seeraga samba mutton biriyani and Anjappar chettinadu chicken.Final surprise was a bill with %15 tip (for a table of 3 ppl) included and was told its written on a the menu card. Additional gratitude was also requested on top of it.Was not happy with the customer service on the whole
My experience in this restaurant was great. I came here with my pals to have South Indian food. It was my 1st time in this beautiful environment . When I 1st got here , I didn’t anticipate this place to be nice and food to be outstanding.Food that we had was chettinad chicken masala, tandorri pomfret, 3 parottas, chicken lollipops, prawn 65, and natukozi biryani. They were all very delicious 😋For drink, we had their special cocktail named chennai coconut, mango martini, and couple of kingfisher beers.Service, here is fast and people over here are way too friendly . Staffs are attentive and their hospitality is great 👍 I’d highly like to thank everyone out there for treating us in such a nice way.Overall experience was great! Will definitely come back with new people.
I just went with my son and wife to have a different kind of Indian food. We wanted something really authentic and different from the usual cream sauce based dishes served in most Indian restaurants. We had a wonderful time and the food was amazingYou wont be disappointed!
One of the worst service I have ever experienced in United states. Me and my wife were made to sit near a bucket which was placed to catch leaking AC water. We ordered two meals which is the basic and the fastest thing that any Indian restaurant could serve but we were made to wait for 30 minutes. After 30 minutes the waitress came with a wrong order. Later she went back. And after sometime the waitress again came back with our order to only pour the hot sambar on my husbands pants. She didnt even have the courtesy to apologize, instead she was rude and walked away shouting at us saying she cant do anything. Ended up walking away with food untouched. So pathetic place to dine. I would definitely recommend not coming to this place if you want to spend a pleasant time. On a special note, the place is very claustrophobic.
If you are a south indian and want to go to this hotel just thinking it has the same flavor and taste of the anjappar brand, please do not visit. The goat biriyani looked and tasted like a masala rice. The paratha was the thickest I have ever eaten in my entire life. The inside of the paratha was not properly cooked at all, probably because of the thickness. They gave me an alternate one. But even that was of the same quality. The taste of the curry was not the authentic chettinad taste that we used to eat in anjappar brand hotels. So if you want to treat it as any other hotel and enjoy the average food, you are welcome to go. Do not go for the brand name. You will be disappointed. Im giving 2 stars for the good service. If not, it will be only 1 star.
We had lunch along with kids and friends in Anjappar. Tasty food but felt bit expensive considering location and proximity. The food is tasty and staff are very friendly. Excited to see an American chef preparing Indian dishes not compromising on the taste which is served in India. Paratas and dosas are yummy.
Very good food but a bit pricey. Some dishes are SP (special price) and are alot higher depending on the time of year which is fine. I was told one of those dishes cost $20 but when done, the price on the bill was $28 which is why the the rating is not 5 stars. Otherwise it was a great experience overall
We went to try Anjappar on our vacation to Nyc. Place is small and tables were setup close to each other. Seating was very bad. Restroom was dirty and looked like no maintanence.Food was mediocre. We ordered chicken 65 and non vegetarian thali. Portions are extremely small and no refill is provided. The meal was not worth the price. They give one non veg curry with meal which was tasteless and lacked salt. Chicken 65 was only satisfactory dish. We asked for check and surprised to see tip was already included in the check. Waiter said they will add tip automatically if it was 2+. We were 3 ppl including little kid. Tip is supposed to be paid for good customer service not to force people to pay it. Bad customer service. Overall disappointed with this place.
Worst ever food i have taken in my life time.We ordered Chicken and Goat biriyani and it’s really worst with very limited quantity for the money it’s cost.Fish fry and chicken 65 fried in the same oil and it’s half fried and too oily. We are around 10 people everyone got stomach upset after the restraint visit. One of the worst ever South Indian hotel.Don’t wast time by going into such restaurant instead search for some street foods which worth a money you spent.
I went to this outstanding restaurant on Saturday with my colleagues. Food out here was awesome. I and two of my friends loved it.I liked chicken lollipops, chicken roast and tandoori pomfret from the starter. For the entree, we had natukozi masala, 2 parottas, masala dosa, pomfret polichadu, aloo gobi masala and 2 orders of garlic naan. All these items were amazing. It had the true natural flavor and the spices were great too.Servers were really sweet and nice. We will definitely go backWill highly recommend this place to you guys!!!
We ordered chettinad chicken roast. It cost us $15.95.. for 3 pieces of chicken..!! Since its a chettinad restaurant we expected it to taste authentic. It was bland as cardboard. We paid premium amount for cardboard..! The tandoori came with a tsp of green chutney which literally tasted like nothing. Just some green liquid. It was the worst Indian food we ever ate in NYC.
There were so many problems with this place. They did not have stuff we wanted. On top of that the dosa we ordered did not taste good. The coconut chutney was just water. There was also a small rock or stone one of us chew into. We asked for something and they said it will take 30 mins even though on menu it said 10 min. By the way beverages come after food and they can’t do custom food requests. Oh forgot to mention slow af.
Food items are too expensive and quantity is not satisfactory as well. The cost of Briyani and Meals is high and the White rice in the meals not enough for a kid itself and you need to get the extra Rice with $3 must. The sides comes with the Veg/Non veg Meals is very less. Doesn’t worth for the penny’s we are spending. If you are a South Indian and looking to dine in think twice before you step in. Had a little bit bad experience.
Was here back in 2016 holidays and food was very tastier...! Now its not the case...! Quality is poor...! Goat in the Briyani was very hard and chicken tastes like a old one...! Restaurant name is well reputed so would recommend to improve the quality a lot and bring it close to the mark...! Highly disappointed...!
I took veg pack Thali, chapati was breaking like papas. rice had no moisture n was not soft. I felt like it was reheated many times. Biryani had no taste. It was channa masala which added some taste to it. Dal was ok. Raita n dessert was served in very small quantity. They charged 18% tip when staff was not humble, careless.Bad quality not worth the hype.
This is my third time to this restaurant and I just keep going back hoping it will be better, but all I get is more disappointment. The restaurant brand is so famous for its delicious chettinad cuisine and everything about this place sings a different tune. The food is simply hot and spicy no flavor and no taste, I end up burning my tongue and tummy every time I go there. They really need to work on their flavors, the spices in the gravy feel so raw.Im sure il go a fourth time jus for the love of the chain, hope they improvise.Interestingly the place always plays Hindi music though a South Indian chettinadu restaurant. 🤔
I had a worst experience in this restaurant. I ordered a Vegetarian Executive Thali. There was not a lot of choice for Vegetarians. It also took them 20-30 minutes to get the order to the table.Poor service, Poor quality of food, fewer choice for Vegetarian. High Price landed up paying $18 that included tax and tip inclusive along with the bill.If you are a Vegetarian Please do yourself a favor go to Chennai Garden that is next door they offer authentic south Indian buffet food for around $10.
A good Indian restaurant with close to authentic taste. Ambience was good with clean tables and cutlery. Staff was polite and humble. Order a starter and main course.Starter was a South Indian dish served with 2 coconut chutneys. It was really good. In main course, I ordered Kadhai Paneer and Garlic Naan. It was the first Paneer dish for me in NY which was not sweet and I loved it. Garlic Naan was good but I have had better Naan than this in NY.Overall experience was good and would visit it again in future.Note: Total check/bill amount include tip as well.
Ordered chicken lollypop which was extra deep fried, almost burnt level. Informed the server, did get a look and nothing more. Ordered chicken biryani and mutton biryani and got mixed when they served the order, as if no idea who ordered what. Again informed them and response was - oh is it. Not good experience when Sunday afternoon it was not that rush. Felt the business runs no matter, so treating customers is not the priority.

2022-04-19This place was super delicious and Im so happy to have found this place. They started off by giving us this extremely flaky starter appetizer with a green/brown dipping sauce, which was so yummy. I loved the texture. Then we got the lollipop chicken, which was super crispy and juicy. Then we also got a dosa, which was huge and flaky! Then we got anchovies, goat biriyani, and chicken curry which were all so good. I would definitely come again.

2022-05-16While their Take out delivery timings are beyond ordinary and absolutely not in acceptable range, this place is great to Dine in and food is delivered to your table with in decent time. Some of my favorites are chicken soup, Kadai varuval, chicken 65, Parota/salna, chicken biryani, chicken sukka and pomfret fry.

2021-08-16Good authentic Indian food! It can get spicy so get ready! The food was good. Service was friendly. If you’re looking for an Indian place in Murray Hill in NYC then I would suggest checking this place out. This is not a fancy place but the food was good!

2021-12-05Great food and service! I tired the kal dosa, iddiyappam, and payasum. Like the ambience, good service, and their attention to making pure vegetarian dishes on request. I would recommend this place for a nice meal with authentic Chetinad spices. Also like the ambience with a great Indian accents.Covid rules: The restaurant staff checks for proof of vaccination before taking a seat. This restaurant does not have an outdoor seating option. They have dine in and take out options so I recommend carrying the proof of vaccination with you to have a smooth dine-in experience.

2022-05-08So yummy briyani’s and we definitely loved the kothu paratha. Definitely recommend to all our friends

2021-08-14Delicious South Indian food.I wish the individual plates were not made of plastic, which made the dinner feel cheap. Otherwise no complaints. My students confirmed the food was authentic if not lesser spicy than what they used to have in India, perhaps to accommodate milder American palates.Noteworthy were the (bread based dish) kothu parotta and the mutton (platter) chuka.

2022-01-02Every time we are in the city (we come from Denmark, Europe and are back in NYC once or twice a year) Anjappar is one of our favorite restaurants. I personally love the dosas especially the masala dosa. The waiters and owner are very friendly and the food is sooo good.
