I almost did not visit this store on my recent trip to NYC. At last minute I popped in and I am glad I did. I visited 5 yarn stores while in the city and I can say this was by far one of the better ones in terms of customer service. The selection of yarns is great too. They carry lots of what other stores do not. Very welcoming staff. I can always tell how good a shop is if they have customers sitting and working on projects. This store had that. The ladies and men working on their projects seemed to be having a good time and even the employees were interacting with them. Makes me wish I lived in NYC to be closer to this store.
I’m a serious knitting hobbyist and have been coming to Annie’s for years. They have an excellent selection of fine, wearable yarns in a large assortment of colors, carrying big name brands and small local and international craft yarns alike... they are always well stocked and have a knowledgeable staff. Of all the stores in this town, this is my number 1 stop for stocking up for projects—multiple in-house tables w/ chairs makes it a great place to work out ideas and contemplate projects/purchases. All around great place! And today the staff did me an EXTRA solid and let me in right as they were closing to let me grab that last skein I needed to finish a holiday blanket project... thanks Annie’s!!
BEST craft store on the east side! The store is pretty big but still organized. There is an extensive selection of needle point projects as well as knitting and crocheting supplies. The prices are some of the most reasonable Ive seen in NYC and the variety and quality of yarn is quite impressive!
We spent the entire afternoon in the shop. What a wonderful store. The staff was very helpful. With 2 tables available for open needlearts and yarn activity, the store was full of people who were laughing, visiting, being creative and making new friends. Wish I lived closer. Do not pass up an opportunity to visit this store. Plan for some time as the selection is excellent.
While I was visiting in NYC I stopped by to take a look at this shop. When I walked in, I was immediately greeted by the staff and was shown happily around the store when I asked for help. A woman named Kiana explained to me how the store was organized and was so happy to help me with all of my questions! Kiana helped me find all of my supplies with a servant heart and a smile! She took a look at my pattern and made excellent recommendations, quickly found the yarn I needed, rewound the yarn for me, and sent me on my way with confidence. I so wish that I could fly from Louisiana to NY so I could visit anytime I want! Annie’s has a huge inventory that is well stocked and expertly organized. I adore this shop and will now ALWAYS stop when I visit my family in New York.
I visited Annie and Co. during the NYC Yarn Crawl for the first time and all I can say is WOW! This place is a dream, I was so taken in by the many different craft items available to you, from yarn for knitting or crocheting, to needlepoint and cross stitch canvases and threads. I think the highlight of my visit was the all you can fit $5 plastic bag which allowed you to purchase as many pattern magazines/books that you could fit into the plastic bag provided for $5!!!!!! The staff was extremely pleasant, even though the store was super busy, and were able to answer my various questions as well as assist me with my yarn purchase. I liked it so much that I returned the following Wednesday for their stitch and sip night :)
Im like a kid in a candy store when I come here. This my first port of call for all things knitting. The yarns just inspire you to KNIT! The textures are great. The colors are vibrant. The quality of all their yarn is the best Ive found. The ladies are pros. Bring a project, theyll show you how its done. Bring a problem, theyve got the solution. Nothing is too small or too big for them to fix. Theyre just terrific. Thank you, ladies. You have the best shop in town.
This place has excellent selection of threads and canvases for any needlepoint style. Helpful staff and pleasant atmosphere. Havent made use of the stitching evenings yet but hopefully one day Ill make it in. Only local. Place I visit when in need of threads or new projects!
The women who helped me select thread and choose colors for cover were helpful and friendly. When I went to pick up the finished product, the woman was rude and impersonal! She could have handed me groceries. She handed it to me - no comments, e.g. “It looks lovely or are you pleased?” When I tried to say something, she ignored me! The person who took my credit card was also rude. In the middle of my transaction, she started talking to someone else! Just be aware!!!With tremendous disappointment and a very empty feeling!!
Think Tiffany and Nordstrom when it comes to Annie & Co. You walk in to a dazzling display of the most jeweled colored needlepoint cottons, silks, ribbons its amazing. The same is true for their yarns. The selections are so numerous it is so hard to choose from. Its like going into Tiffanys wanting to buy everything. The canvases are beautiful. It is like a candy store where you want everything. Enough said about the selections the service is phenomenal as if your are in Nordstorms. They are so helpful with selecting pearl or cotton floss to specialty items. They do it because you can see they enjoy what they do and they want to help make your finished products something to treasure. Everyone is smiling and they make the whole experience one of sheer joy. You cannot go wrong with this wonderful place. A special thank you to Beth & Anita for their creative ideas and their helpfulness.
Annies is my home away from home. They have an incredible selection of yarns and needlepoint. The staff is fantastic, friendly and can assistyou in any knitting or needlepoint question you may have. They also offerclasses for knitting , crocheting and needlepoint. It is so difficult to walkout the door without at least one project.
Annies is a very special place! It is not just a knitting store. It is a place to go and share great conversation, laugh and talk while you are knitting, doing needlepoint or crochet and much more! As soon as you walk through the door, the great atmosphere sucks you right in!
Came in to check out the place and see if I can learn more about knitting one of the Youtube famous big knit blankets for my Mom. I had to be buzzed in to the store.Which I thought nothing of at first. When I asked a question to the older lady with white hair. She took me to the yarn.I asked a few additional questions on how to sewing it together and she informed me and then I said thank you.She then persisted to stand a few feet away pretending like she was moving yarn. The SAME yarn she rolled around in one spot for a few minutes.Feeling uncomfortable like she was making sure I wouldnt steal I left.NO THANK YOU! Please shop at any of the other knitting stores.I will get my yarn from Amazon.
A Facebook needlework group pointed me in the right direction suggesting Annie & Company. I am a visitor to Manhattan. This store exceeded my expectations in service, friendliness, content, and atmosphere. The canvass designs are limitless and yarns brilliant. I will be a returning customer in person and online. Thank you Annie, for saving the passion of thread and needle.
Just went here for the first time and did not have a pleasant experience. As I perused the store to see if I can find something I liked, the staff was deep in an offensive conversation. They were so aware of what they were saying that the conversation then shifted to how being judgmental is ok (they were body-shaming who they were talking about, among other comments). I wasn’t even acknowledged as I left the store, shaking my head, because they were so enthralled in this inappropriate conversation. I won’t be going back to this store. I will be taking my money and business to companies owned by Women of Color. Additionally, if you read carefully through the reviews you will find a pattern, the 1-star reviews are mostly from People of Color. Your racism is showing...
I was a bit disappointed when I first went there. Reason being, is the girls at the front count were unfriendly. Try to ask a question and you get the feeling from the way they responded that you should be able to find it yourself. Secondly, you would have one particular sale person overly helping you to the point it becomes a bit annoying until you realized youre being watch! I decided not to come back. I found a much better place where the employees are friendly and professional.
THIS ESTABLISHMENT RACIALLY PROFILES THEIR CUSTOMERS. Ive have never recieved such a mortifying shopping experience in my life than at this unfortunate store. My mother and I were constantly survailed by staff and there was a noticable and rather ethnic change in the music that I found myself becoming more irate at the obvious form of racial profiling. We have the means to pay but as people of color we are seen as less than and I hope that other people of color do not have to undergo the same experience that I went through. They also seem to over sell their products for certain clients like myself and steeped discounts and attention by staff was given more so to White clients than to my mother and I.

2022-08-19Annie’s Needlepoint is not as service oriented as it was when I went 20 years ago. The staff is not as knowledgeable and the faces are not as friendly. I sent In my needlepoint to finish and make into a Challah cover. After waiting 3 months to complete, the work is just mediocre.I will likely not return.

2021-01-19This yarn store is huge and has an AMAZING selection! They had yarns that I wasnt even able to find online, and they had many many colors. They have a nice selection of domestic and European yarns, in varying weights and textures. Everyone who works at this store seems to know their yarns! I live around the corner so Im going to be back many times.

2022-07-28This shop claims to be LGBT friendly, but it is not. Staff has been unenthusiastic, unhelpful, and rude to me every single time I have been here. The last time I went, the employees started talking about me and my dog while I was still in the store, and made me and my friend very uncomfortable. I was a regular customer since the yarn they carry is very nice but this is not the shop for you if you don’t fit the in with the demographic they want to attract.

2022-01-31Smaller store but cozy. They didnt have a huge selection of yarns but they do carry some well known yarn brans like Hedgehog Fibers and Malabrigos. Prices is on the higher side but that is to be expected from a premium craft store. They have items for knit, embroidery and crochet as well as pattern books.Overall its a good shop in the upper east side.

2021-12-31This store has a broad selection of yarns for every project imaginable. The best part of this store is the breadth of knowledge of the staff and the willingness of these women to guide and advise on projects, and problem solve when you find yourself with a knitting dilemma. Their classes are very good too.

2021-12-10They have a large selection of yarn but the person who just helped me only wants to sell crochet hooks to people who already know what size they need. If you don’t know or aren’t aware that it tells you on the yarn packaging, she will make no secret of her utter disgust. She was so rude I left without buying a hook.

2021-10-01I always go into this neighborhood store with high hopes and walk out disappointed in the experience, and usually empty handed. They simply lack the attentive helpful service I find at other smaller shops. During my last visit, I had a list of needles and yarn for a simple knitting project. I was dismissively shown three walls of yarns, some of which was the weight I was looking for. Unfortunately many skeins were missing the weight information, and the organization of weights and brands baffled me. The basic needles I was looking for, just as we approach the holiday season, were surprisingly out of stock. So disappointing.

2020-11-27This shop has a great selection of goods for fiber arts but the customer service left something to be desired. They dont hold items for any length of time if you need some time to decide, which is unusual in my experience of working and shopping at yarn stores. And the person I worked with wasnt very nice about it and seemed like she had never been asked before. As an aside, there were several people working but one person at the register (helping the person in front of me) and she needed help and the other people were not really team players and the surly clerk took her time to show up. I dont know if Ill go back because there are nicer places.
