We first visited Anthonys about 5 years ago when we stayed in Plattsburgh enroute to Champlain, NY for our Global Entry interview. The food and service was memorable, so we decided to go back when we were in Plattsburgh again for another Global Entry interview. The food, cocktails and service were as good as we remember it being.Anthonys has a more formal dining room, a bar and a less formal bistro. They have a bistro menu and a main menu, but both were available in the Bistro area.We sat on the bistro side which has a cosy rustic feel. I drank a santa muerte tequila based cocktail (delicious) and my wife had a glass of white wine (decent selection on the menu). For food, we ate:Bistro Cut New York Strip Steak-with house-made ancho chile-pomegranate barbecue steak sauce, Pasta Bolognese and Chicken Breast Parmesan - all of these were delicious and so was the complimentary crusty bread. If we are ever back in the area, will be sure to eat at Anthonys again.
Upscale dining inan old farm house transformed into a restaurant. We ate in what used to be an indoor pool. It was very intimate and elegant. Delicious food and great service. If it serves as a reference, we came from Montreal (we have great food in Montreal) so we picked Anthonys because it had the best reviews in town. We were certainly not disappointed.Highly recommended.
Usually the food choices around the highway hotels are chains or nasty Chinese/Italian places. We were pleasantly surprised to see that the number one restaurant in town was across the street from our hotel! We walked over and had a fantastic meal! All the food is made in-house (sausages, bread, dressings, and pasta) and fantastic. Not only do they make their own lobster bisque, they also make their own stock for all their soups. They also have a great wine list!
By far my favorite restaurant in Plattsburgh. Fine dining, but with a cozy and welcoming environment. The staff are delightful from the host at the door, to the waitress filling your ice water with every pass by the table, to the server offering daily specials and their full attentive care for your dining experience. Everything is fresh, homemade, and delicious. Compared to other fine dining options in the area I always find the bill matches the value of the meal I order, the prices are fair for the outstanding quality of food you will be served. The chefs make homemade icecream, and tonights flavor was maple candied pecan- excellent, the best Ive tasted so far... I always order the scallop and shrimp risotto there is nothing else like it in the north country. Thank you Colleen for your excellent service tonight, and to every other staff member that made our evening truly special, we were celebrating our anniversary and it was lovely.
This is the second time we ate there for dinner in the dining room. Both meals were absolutely amazing. My husband and I both had the filet mignon, and it was cooked perfectly! The staff at the restaurant couldnt do enough for you. Your water class is always full and there was no rush to move you through. I cant wait to go back for another great meal and beautiful atmosphere.
Wow wow wow!!! There are not enough good words to say about this place! The food 🤤 absolutely delicious!! Everything was perfect, perfectly cooked, looked perfect! Amazing place to eat! If you are ever in the area do not go anywhere else go here! The atmosphere was amazing the staff were so polite. Just an all around amazing place. I’d give it 10 stars if I could.
I have been to several Anthony restaurants, and this one is the most charming. It has a rustic mid-evil tavern feel, the servers ought to be dressed like serving wenches to really make sense in this place. The food was all amazing and the service was great. A bit stuffy and uptight, however I suppose they were professional. Well worth the visit.
First time we have eaten at Anthony s. Definetley wont be the last ! This place us wonderful! From the quaint seating arrangement, to the extensive well thought out menu. We enjoyed every bit of our experience. You wont have any wait for service, as the staff is spot on there to serve you and make your dining experience memorable in a positive way. We just loved it! Thank you so much! We had the escargot, onion soup, followed by filet mignon, one with lobster tail, the other with scallops. The seafood was so light and buttery , it melted in your mouth. Yes! That was a highlight for us both. We ended with cheesecake and creme brule , and a huge smile walking out the door. 😊💜 give yourself a treat, and just go there! Its great!
I heard good things about Anthonys, and I was excited to bring my boyfriend there for his birthday (we traveled an hour and a half each way to go) but it was an epic fail.Firstly, they cooked my entree to be well done and his medium rare. It was supposed to be the other way around so we had to send them back.We ordered gazpacho and it was definitely more like salsa rather than the chilled soup as it was explained to us and as we had in the past at other establishments. They also put my vegetable on his plate. Also, I hate to say this because I love supporting small businesses but while we were waiting for our entrees to be fixed, a bug ran across our table.I kept hoping they would redeem themselves but at the end of the meal, when they were supposed to bring out dessert with a candle on top to help celebrate the birthday, they didnt. I had even called to make special arrangements and I was assured they would let the server know. My boyfriend ordered cake and creme brulee, neither of which came with a candle. We typically dont even order dessert but I had to convince him to because it was his bday. To make it even more awkward, someone else there was celebrating a birthday and he staff had dessert brought out to them with a candle. I spoke with the person who I made the reservation with and he refunded one of the desserts - which was nice but honestly didnt make up for the poor experience and disappointment. A 3 hour round trip drive, 3 hours in the restaurant and $150+ later, sadly, the best thing I can say about Anthonys is that they keep the water glasses filled during your visit.
Dined here on three consecutive nights and enjoyed it. We were three the first night, five the second, six the third, so I got to taste a variety of offerings. My first nights entree was chicken parmigiana and though tasty the breaded chicken was a little overdone, dry. The second night I ordered their sea scallop and shrimp saute and it was superb, with snow peas and potato accompaniments, so good in fact that I ordered it again on our third night. The desserts are all homemade and delicious and the servers attentive and professional.Anthonys has both a cozy bistro wing and a larger elegant room which is multi level and we had no trouble hearing each other in either setting. The decor is woody and even the larger room provides intimacy.I will eat here on our next visit to New Yorks north country and maybe even try the chicken parmigiana again. If they get it right Ill add a fifth star.Recommended.
Overall a good dining experience. They have a great french onion soup and very well put together salads. I have ordered the steak several times here and always order it rare and I always receive the steak medium-rare to medium. Make sure you order the steak a few shades lighter than what youre expecting. The deserts are very good and they have a nice beverage selection. Would go again.
Were traveling through Plattsburgh and this place was highly recommended by our hotel staff. The different selections of food were refreshing to see on a menu and all of the food was exquisitely perfect! We want to give a shout out to the wonderful hostess Nancy who got us seated and made sure that we were well taken care of, even though we were not vips she and the rest of the staff made us feel like it! The food was great and truly indescribable we would recommend this to anybody just passing through or a regular but be prepared there may be a bit of a wait. It is well worth that!
This rating is based on food and service alone. I was here for an event so my meal was completely paid for ,thankfully, I could never afford to go there on my own dime. If you are looking for a special occasion restaurant however this is definitely the place. I could eat their food all day everyday.
The main dining area side is wonderful. However, I have been sitting in the Bistro & it has a nice atmosphere as well. You can order the dining room or bistro menu, so very nice option. Can dress up or casual which is also a great option when going direct from work. They have live music from a pianist some nights, he is very good. The food...great! Options not found other places. Duck, Venison, Soufle..everything Ive had has been done to perfection. The staff is always pleasant and attentive.
What a disappointing dinner! While visiting friends over Labor Day weekend, several locals proclaimed Anthony’s to be the best in Plattsburgh, we had dinner there Saturday evening. Everything sounded delicious and I was torn between ordering the veal or pork. My waitress recommended the veal.Horrendous! The veal was predominantly FAT. When I complained to that same waitress, I was told, that was normal for the cut of meat used. My mistake was in NOT sending it back since I didn’t eat it.So I wound up spending $$$ on a meal I didn’t eat. Anthony’s should be ashamed of serving that inedible plate!Never again!
The most amazing meal that I have had in the town of Plattsburgh ever. The decor is amazing and should be featured in a magazine. The staff was incredibly friendly, knowledgeable and extremely professional. By far one of the best managed restaurants and staff in the area. I had a New York strip that would put just about any professional BBQ or Steakhouse to shame. If you are looking for the most beautiful, romantic and luxurious restaurant in town this is it. Phenomenal job guys I cannot wait to visit you again soon.
Exceptional experience every single time. The meals are always fantastic and this is definitely our go-to for special family occasions and date nights. The wine list is superior and we always love to try something new, not to mention the staff is always delightful, knowledgable and well-informed.
I officially love this place. The food and wine and service were excellent. Especially the food. I had the grilled Calamari and a rare Filet with Gorgonzola sauce. There is live music as I sit here on Saturday night.Ladies: I was even able to sit at the bar and enjoy my meal alone without being harassed ;)
THE BEST RESTAURANT IN NORTH COUNTRY!!!My review is not only based on my amazing experiences dining at Anthonys, but also as someone who worked there as a server for one year, in 2015-16. The quality of the food is always top rate and many people are unaware that Anthonys grows many of their own vegetables and herbs in their very own garden on premises. After nearly 30 years working at Anthonys as Executive Chef and later Chef/Owner Scott Murray is STILL there most days and nights, overseeing every aspect of food preparation and making his house specialties. I have nothing but respect for him. His wife Nancy and daughters Cara and Ali also worked there while I was there and were incredible in every way.The dedicated and professional kitchen staff and front of house staff strive for excellence and made my time there a true pleasure. Much of the staff there have been with the restaurant for DECADES!!! Bartenders Deb and Jimmy are two of the best bartenders I have ever worked with. Jimmy is also a very accomplished and talented artist, who has a one man show at the restaurant once a year -- DONT MISS IT!).While working at Anthonys, I waited on locals, as well as people from as far away as San Francisco, Amsterdam, and Australia, and the universal rave reviews and appreciation of the guests, made it a pleasure to work there. Often, when travelers would ask me where else should we go in this area?, i would say there is not even a close second. Just come back here and try different menu items ...often, they took my advice, and were always glad they did.
Very cozy restaurant with lots of ambience. Nice mixed greens salad followed by duck breast special in currant with wine sauce, rice and veggies was awesome. Glass of Malbec complimented it well. Chocolate mousse cake for dessert was great. Definitely on the pricey side but its fine dining for Plattsburgh NY.
What a find! Did not know what to expect, but it was fantastic! The best restaurant in Plattsburgh! Ive had the pork loin, venison and duck and all were to absolutely die for. If youre in the area, I highly recommend stopping by...you cant go wrong.Service is perfect, too!
A wonderful birthday dinner. They handled all my requests perfectly, including receiving and preparing flowers and having them on the table for our arrival. And surprisingly affordableDinner for 2 with appetizers, drinks and dessert just about 100$. Very well done Anthonys!
Had heard a lot about Anthonys standing out for fine dining from the rest of the pack. The decor inside is comforting, Dim lit, rustic cabin like. The restaurant side offers two menus which might be a tad overwhelming but great to have all those options. The seafood was incredible, actually all 4 of our dishes were. Its easy to find right off the exit on the left so an out of towner like me didnt get lost. Will you spend a bit of money? Yes. Will it be worth it? Absolutely. This is how classic fine dining should be.
For being an expensive upscale romantic restaurant its rough. The decide is random chairs youd find at your grandmothers house, there are random pictures on the wall and loud. Service was subpar as the waiter seemed not to have cared that we were even there. The food they use is frozen, you can tell by how chewy it is. Ive been in a restaurant family for ever, father in law runs six upscale restaurants and mother in law has been in the industry for over 40 years. Creme brulee was prepped well before it was served. The shell on the top just caved and bent around the spoon. Definitely prepped and put back in the fridge for the day. Beef Wellington was alright. Extremely small piece of steak in the middle, like a couple of ounces. For the price that isnt acceptable. The two of us spent over 120 bucks on food that was below Applebees (honestly, it was rough) quality, a loud atmosphere, uncomfortable seating, and wine that tasted like it was bottom of the barrel cheap. If youre looking for a romantic night out with the significant other, look elsewhere. Go here if you want to overpay for a meal youll regret.
Great atmosphere, tastefully decorated, staff were friendly, efficient, courteous. Meal was over the top delicious and dessert was AMAZING fresh warm light fluffy cheese cake with raspberry sauce. Well done Anthonys! Thanks from two biker girls from Algonquin Highlands, Ontario Canada.
The escargot was superb, as always. Filet mignon Oscar, very good presentation, however, two starches? Filet, hot and perfectly cooked. The seafood was refrigerator COLD. Tiramisu, their style, not really to my palate. The young man who served me was in training and needed more! He didnt offer another glass of wine, more bread to accompany the escargot, a glass of water, etc. And after presenting a bill of $76.00 to a solo diner, was presumptuous enough to take 5 $20.00 dollar bills in payment and not bring change. He gave himself a $24.00 tip of 24% for not such good service.
My husband and I decided to take a drive up North to see how the Fall foliage was coming along and get out of town for the afternoon. We came down through Plattsburgh on our way home and although it was a bit early (for us at least) for dinner, wed skipped lunch and were pretty hungry. We just happened to see a sign for Anthonys about 1/4 mile up ahead of us and at just after 5:00 p.m. the parking lot was already half filled, so I quickly hopped on my phone to check Google Reviews to see if it was someplace we might enjoy. And enjoy it, we did! The decor is quaint and rustic with three sections to be seated in, with the middle room being the bar area. When the host greeted us, he asked if we had a reservation and when we advised him that we didnt, he directed us to the back dining room and told us to take any open table. For a moment, I was concerned that the back room might be a bit less amenable and possibly used as an overflow space which in some cases indicates that service might not be as attentive and the menu might not be quite as varied as it is in a main dining room. Much to our delight, neither of these things were true. There were several 2, 4 and 6 top tables. Each had candles and bud vases with a fresh Fall flower & were draped with crisp white tablecloths and matching cloth napkins wrapped around rustic style flatware. There was also a substantial (& spotless) water goblet at each setting. We chose a table for 2 and a busboy appeared almost immediately with fresh, cold water for our glasses. A moment later, our waitress appeared with a bistro menu for each of us and also a main dining room menu as well to choose from. She asked if wed like to hear the specials (which we did) and she described five, providing the details of each and its accompaniments. While she was explaining the specials, the busboy returned with a basket of tasty warm house-made bread and a generous dish of butter to go with it. The menus were clearly written and each one offered many of the same appetizers, soups and salads, but the bistro menu had lighter fare like sandwiches and burgers with a couple of steak and Italian dishes to choose from. The main dining room menu had a large selection of dinner options along with the appetizers, etc. with several options in each of the usual categories - like beef, chicken, seafood, pork & veal dishes and of course Italian specialties. I dont recall whether there was a childrens menu or not, but the options on the bistro menu included several items that kids would be quite happy with. My husband started with Marinated, Grilled Calamari in some type of sauce. There were approximately 8 small whole squid that he said had very good flavor, but he felt it was overcooked which made it a little tough/chewy. For his main dish, he chose the Bison Strip Steak in a Port & Peppercorn Sauce that he said was tender and cooked to a perfect medium rare. He thought both the meat and the sauce were quite delicious. I began with the Shrimp Cocktail, which was comprised of 5 perfectly cooked and chilled jumbo shrimp and a tangy, but not overly spicy cocktail sauce that I believe was made in-house. For my main, I chose the Filet Mignon Oscar, which was also very tender and cooked to a perfect medium rare. The lobster that topped it was plentiful and cooked perfectly & the Bearnaise was delicious. The 3 stalks of white asparagus that accompanied it were quite mushy, though. The sides for both dishes were the same - smashed red bliss potatoes that were well seasoned, but were just luke-warm and a duo of steamed carrots & broccoli that were thankfully not overcooked, but they were devoid of any kind of seasoning. The staff was friendly, professional & attentive, but we never felt rushed. We had a very pleasant evening with very good food. For drinks, my husband enjoyed 2 craft brewed beers & I opted for soda. Well definitely dine at Anthonys again when were in the Plattsburgh area!
Ive had supper a few month ago and had a chance to discuss wines and dishes with the waitress who was very knowledgebale and involved, I realy appreciated that. Being French, the quality of the service and the implication of the waiter/ress is as important as the quality of the food itself (which was really good too :) ) I wont hesitate to go back there, next time I have enough time ahead of me to properly sit and take time to enjoy my meal.
This place is so far the best I have had in Plattsburgh. Lil quaint for our crowd ....but if theres a good meal we will fit in with the best of them. Here the food is not good its great...had scallops , friend had venison, and chorizo sausage...also had homemade apple pie ice cream....this place is phenomenal. Cant wait to return. Sometimes you have to pay for goodness, pricey here but it doesnt matter , it will not disappoint. Well worth the price.#BuddhaReview
Its funny that Anthonys pops up once again on my feed I absolutely love this restaurant many people there have a lot of great memories from over 10 years of visits to this place and all the momentous occasions associated with them if youre going to go out and enjoy yourself in and around Plattsburgh started Anthonys you will never be disappointed.....
We ended up unexpectedly in Plattsburgh on New Years eve. Anthonys was the closest restaurant to our hotel and we stumbled on this gem completely by accident. The staff were amazing, happily accommodating us on one of their busiest nights of the year. The wine list was impressively extensive, with a great selection of French and Italian wines. The menu is traditional and the quality of the food was exceptional. We throughly enjoyed the seafood risotto and the lamb shank. All delicious and cooked to perfection. Anthonys is definitely one of the best, if not the best, restaurant in Plattsburgh.
A real jem in Plattsbugh. My wife had the Coquilles Saint-Jacques, the scallops were devine, large, fresh and tender. I had the Sauteed Pork Scaloppine Saltimbocca, also delicious and tender. My mother in law had the Grilled Eggplant, Roasted Red Pepper and Feta Salad, she described it as euphoric! The eggplant was grilled to perfection and flavorful. The portions were generous and the price very reasonable. The service was professional. The pianist was very enjoyable. We would definitely recommend!
A warm, welcoming restaurant with a menu that is both sophisticated and simple...the choice of offerings is impressive...the preparation is superb...and the presentation us beautiful...the staff are friendly, helpful, and professional...the wine list has to be the best in the area...it us moderately expensive but well worth the price.
I love the building the food was wonderful the staff were great came in got a table for me amd my family had drinks seconds later food was ordered in a timely matter music was great it was songs i new i had a all around good time i would tell anyone who is passing threw Plattsburgh its a place u must try

2022-06-17Just simply underwhelmed. Our friends had visited Anthonys last summer and did nothing but rave about it, so when picking a plce to celebrate our anniversary we decided to give it a whirl. Its an hour drive for us but we wanted something different, so when I started talking about where we were going we heard nothing but positive feedback. We were promptly seated when we arrived, watered and given a drink menu and bread right off....the bread was rock hard....the waiter prompt and trying to be helpful brought a taste of wine for my husband and promptly brought us our drinks, rattled off the specials. We ordered French onion soups as an appetizer oddly heavy but not terrible. My husband ordered the duck special with a raspberry balsamic reduction, the duck itself was very good, however the bed of rice it laid on was bland. There was 2 broccoli pieces on the side with some sort of sauce on it and then pureed carrots....sweet doctored pureed carrots. I thought it was sweet potato would have made more sense. I ordered the filet Oscar, my filet cooked well medium rare just how I like it and the lobster was good. However again...pureed sweet carrots and I actually got 2 pieces of broccoli with no sauce...no butter just steamed. Then there was a weird looking square chunk of something on the plate as well, I was told it was scalloped potatoes? It was horrible it actually tasted like the worst processed cheese i have ever tasted. I ate the filet and broccoli and then went for sushi.....I am extremely disappointed in our experience. I wanted it to be amazing, I found the staff over dressed and lacked the knowledge of the fine dining experience. We hope to try it again sometime in the future.

2022-04-05The ambience is so nice and the food is good. I had the grilled calamari for appetizers and grilled Mahi Mahi. My friend got the grilled duck and that too was cooked to perfection. We are in the area for a few weeks working and we have agreed we will have to go back.

2022-05-20Of all the restaurants in Plattsburgh this is by far the best. The food is delicious and the service is always top notch. This is the one place my partner and I regularly visit and both enjoy every time. It may be more expensive than other places nearby but well worth it for sure.

2022-04-09We go occasionally and it always amazing. Truly first class. I have sales representatives whom travel the USA and have dined at some very top end quality restaurants and Anthony’s always is a topic of comparison. Excellent

2022-04-10My friends took my husband and I to Anthony’s last night to celebrate our 48th anniversary! The table was ready as per our reservation and Jeremy, our waiter was excellent. Two of us had the red snapper special: broiled red snapper over a bed of seasoned rice with steamed carrots broccoli and grilled grape tomatoes. Delicious! One had venison that falls apart in your mouth and the sauce bursts with flavor, My husband had the bison steak and he loved it. Too full for dessert, we ordered a berry pie slice and a special maple creme du brûlée to go. I’m eating that for lunch today! It’s like heaven in a cup! I highly recommend this restaurant. We have been frequenting it for years and have yet to be disappointed. Good work staff and owner!

2022-03-23We eat here a few times a year and I’m always disappointed with the lack of plant based vegan options. Basically there are none, unless you order salad. Removing an animal product from a few dishes is always an option but then the entree is boring. Hopefully Anthony’s will get with the times and start supporting a growing movement of plant based eaters at some point. Iris’s restaurant is a good alternative.

2022-05-31Exceptional service, delicious meals, and the perfect atmosphere for a celebratory dinner for two. The seafood was cooked to perfection. We will definitely be back!
