Apna Bazar in other cities:
This is a big store filled with lots of interesting products. For a non-Indian, its always an exciting adventure of discovery. The store is well stocked though seemingly poorly organized but thats part of the fun of shopping here. Biggest gripe is that most items have no prices on them, but we always find their pricing to be very good. When we shop here, we move slowly trying to figure out what some of the foods are, yet other customers dont seem to be bothered by our lollygagging.
Good store, meat section staff can be increased. Lot of people hanging around for the meat but the butcher was busy in the back. Also even if you pick up pre cut meat you have to pay at the meat counter. I found this out at the final till when the cashier told me to go back and pay for the meat. Makes no sense. But otherwise good selection of Asian Middle eastern products and Halal Meat
Great place to grab all things youll need to make authentic indian dishes. Good selection of produce. Freshest spices i have ever found and they have everything in multiple sizes to fit usage and budget. All kinds of rice. Many varieties of flat breads. Still discovering items in the freezer section!
I usually get everything I am looking for when I shop here. The prices on certain items have gone up but I am sure that is because of the pandemic. Still cant get taj mahal tea Bags and bhagwati debra and thepla. Overall one of my favorite stores for Indian grocery.Be careful going on a Sunday, it is insanely busy but luckily checkout is fast!
It needs more care. It should be definitely much cleaner. It needs lots of cleaning. The vegetable areas are unkept, dirty and very disorganized. The floor is dirty. The cashiers are not so friendly. It must be a lucky day for you to find a friendly cashier and sometimes theres English barrier to understand what they say.
As you enter, the aromas are out of this world. the spice mixture of various varieties of foods all combine into one grande middleastern/Indian bazaar like atmosphere. the Ancient is very simple - the store is packed to the tee with goodies from various countries. you can find a lot of this here from Turkey, India, Iran, Bangladesh, etc, however there are some improvements to be made. There could be better descriptions of the items for those of us that dont speak or read the language. the could also be aisles with names what they sell in then. still, going there is an experience not to be reckoned with.
Great selection for spices and herbs you wont find at other supermarkets. I enjoy shopping particular health and beauty care items but on my last visit I noticed that their prices have jumped dramatically. From now on, Ill order these same items online. No need to go 90 minutes out of my way and pay tolls - no longer cost effective. Will visit store only when Im in Long Island already, otherwise Ill be shopping online for all my Neem products.
This is a very good market and we love to shop here but on 3/27/2021 we have a very bad experience at about 9.45 AM at Apna Bazar Hicksville NY , My wife used the bathroom and there was little water spilled on the floor, the lady supervisor started shouting on her that you made all this mess clean it. The way she shouted and talked to my wife is totally unacceptable and non professional.
If youre into trying different cultures foods apna bazar is a great place to find ingredients. The staff is always helpful. Im physically challenged the ladies help me in an instant even do the shopping for you. Theyre not all talky and i like because constant pain is always with me. I just want to shop and be done. The prices are good for the quality on veggies. Meat fresh and tender. Prices can be be a bit steep but worth it. Large parking best to go in mornings otherwise evenings can be hectic. I truly love this place here in Hicksville.
They need to check their product’s expiration dates and get expired stuff off the shelves, before someone gets sick from food poisoning or other related issues. I bought few things that are from a freg, and navy have mold around the cover ring. So disgusting. I would never go back there.
This is a clean and modern ethnic market that is geared towards the Asian Indian community. There are plenty of products here that you dont have to be Indian to appreciate. Bread and dairy departments looked clean and inviting. Fruit and vegetables have always been top notch. If you love all kinds of kitchen gadgets, this is the store for you..
Talking way of cashier is wasnt nice last night Im going to buying some thing I show Tobago products to the cashier its expire ,she give me great answer she say if you want to buy buy it other wise leave it supervisor dint teach them how to talk with the customer I request to every one any thing they buy make sure check expire first
It used to be a great Place. Selection of item are good, but People working in Store lack Customer Service. There Managers are Rude and Careless. They have no manners to talk over a Phone with Customers. They expect Customer to have knowledge of Weighted Bag Item in their Store in Memory. They treat their Customer with Contempt, because there Product are Clean and Prevailing Below Market Price. In Order to Succeed, They need to have better Customer Service and Better use of Technology like App Service to avoid these kind of Reviews. They Should have a Diverse Workforce, and not Middle Age Asian Women, Whom Language Skills are limited and their Customer interactions are very Expressionless.
I heard from many people that this store had great deals and a good variety of products. I was in search for a milk cream that I couldnt find anywhere, they did carry it but in so many Brands and in so many different names that I did not understand on the containers so I had to purchase all of them. The only thing I feel is a good deal is there fruit and vegetable prices. It was an okay experience I feel that I rather get vegetables by my place then drive far away just to get to the store. Like I said I was looking for a milk cream so far Ive open two and it didnt come out as what I needed.
The groceries are good but i found inflated prices on some items. I went to buy a patanjali almond oil which i bought earlier from maharaja farmer market in Hicksville for 7.99. The same oil is listed 13.99 at this store. I ended up going to maharaja to buy the same oil since i needed a few of them. They need to put competitive prices, not double them. There should be a price control for items which are imported from India. I checked their section where they put imported oils, cosmetics and essence sticks, i found everything inflated. Groceries are undoutedly good quality and competitively priced.
I loved this place and still go, but they added a halal meat department last year which ruins it for me. It was nice to be able to walk into a vegetarian supermarket. But that’s over. I mentioned it to one of the checkout ladies one day and she said, “I know... I’m upset about it to.” So, I go here for veg and for what I need to make Indian food and for the feeling of an interesting culture. For sweets, go a mile south to rajbhog cafe, which makes fresh Indian sweets and has beautiful decorative boxes for them if you want to bring something special and unusual to a party.
Good Indian grocery store. With almost everything and lots of deals. Fresh fruits vegetables, produce, grains, indian snacks, frozen and many more. Biggest plus is that it I open for 24 hours 365 days. Located at a very convenient location.Like this review of it has helped.
Great store for all-round Indian groceries and for cheap groceries in general. They are open 24/7 which is ridiculously convenient for someone like me. The store is a bit crammed and doesnt feel like the cleanest place, but youll drop those impressions when you see the price tags. Its very economical to shop here.
Walk in any time any day, the meat department guy doesnt wear a mask and keeps coughing every minute. Disgrace... No distancing, no rules, typical Indian store. Should be shut down. Next time will post a video. Top of that, the owner guy was sweeping in an isle with mask in his neck..... Too bad ! !
Huge variety of groceries, vegetables, frozen foods(🐟) and spices.Halal meat is also available. Restroom is clean.Isle are well organized. Had problem in finding roti, at last found in the diary section. The utensils are over priced. Better to avoid those as you can found them at a better price online.Representatives are helpful. Vegetables are not that fresh but its okay type.Overall nice experience.
Really good place to go grocery shopping. Fresh vegetables and fruits and to top it all prices are very reasonable. Just go and find out. I travel 29 miles to get here instead of going to Jackson Heights. No problem parking they have their own free parking. The extra money I spent on gas is the money I save in price difference plus I get the freshest stuff here. Everyone should go and visit this place.
A great place to shop for all kinds of South Asian delicacies. The only issue I have with this place is that the cashiers never smile or greet back, not even once among all the countless weekly trips Ive been doing for the past decade, saying good morning, hello or thank you every time without any replies.
Purchased 6 pack of mango pulp, usually it takes me 5-6 months to go through it. now I find out it expires next month, as we are at the end of this month. it was produced 2 years ago. not practical for me. Called The store and wanted to speak to the manager the lady who picked up the phone said that I must call back to speak to the manager even though I offered my name and number she refused to take it..will see what happens
Its a good place to buy Indian grocery but not the best. The vegetables arent usually very fresh and there are limited quantities to items. Its a small place but a favorite among locals who have been going here for years. But I think the prices are the same in other popular Indian groceries and the quality subpar.Nonetheless its a place to get your common Indian kitchen veggies and spices.I live nearby hence this is a go to place for urgent stuff. The worst part is when your fellow New Yorkers leave their carts on the parking lot,I frankly hate this attitude. It wouldnt kill you to have some community sense and be well mannered.Overall not my first choice to go but if you still like the whole Indian bazaar experience you can try this place.
Prices not listed. Cashier charged what ever he wanted. Extremely rude and incompetent when asked to check the prices. Vegetable, fruits rotting. Very unclean and unhygienic. Will never go again. Dont recommend anyone to go either unless you want to get sick with expired date milk, cottage cheese and grocery.
3 weeks ago my father went there to get groceries and he was charged twice.. We went back and spoke to the lady manager who was not help at all. Since then weve been calling the Sterling national bank to dispute the charge but they are not able to help us because Apna Bazar claimed finance twice.. Im gonna report the store to Better Business Bureau.beware when you do groceries at the store check your bank accout they gonna charge you twice and not give you your money back. Please DO NOT do groceries at this store thank you.
Great place to get fresh vegetables, fruits, all types of rice, flour, spices, legumes, oils, nuts, seasoning and so much more. Indian supermarket but has regular groceries like eggs, bread, milk, canned items, huge frozen section, cheese, and you will find things like ginger, kale, beets, and huge variety of fresh produce. Down side is that sometimes produce is old and already starting to break down. I would avoid buying it if its going bad unless the prices are significantly reduced.
They have a lot of variety from various ethnicities. Its not just desi. Overall experience was good. The only thing that I didnt like was that alot of the items were missing prices. So deciding what to buy was difficult. I actually didnt purchase some things because I didnt know the pricing. I know I could have asked at the register but deciding which brand to get would require taking a sample of all of them to the front. Next would be the unorganized and disoreintated dairy isle. Those were the two things that I didnt like. Overall big store and alot of options. They will have any desi food you are looking for.
This establishment is the closest thing you can get to being in india without actually going there. the smell is so contaminating that my clothing smells for days after i visit. the prices are fair and the staff is just all over the place. i can barely pronounce the food they sell but yet they always seems to surprise. every time i visit i wonder why i go back but it always turns out to be an interesting experience. i visit this place from time to time to get the things i wouldn’t be able to anywhere else.
Huge shopping carts and a small store. They have every kind of basmati rice grown on earth. Decent pricing, but questionable quality compared to the City, in my opinion. I didnt feel comfortable there and cant really explain why. Maybe it was because i asked a stock person for help and he treated me like I had leprosy!
Very good place for groceries for Indians. Good quality vegetables for low prices. The place is very crowded over the weekends. They try to keep the shop as clean as possible. I believe they are also starting an Indian snacks center in the back which would be open over the weekends. It is mostly understaffed but you could eaeily spot many items easily. Parking is limited but you could also park across the street near the Dollar Tree. Overall good place to shop for groceries.
Unfortunately there is no option to give less than one star. Most products are either expired or near expiration date. I would advise to avoid meat department at any cost. Meat products are not fresh. Seems like weeks old stock if not months. They have no experience in preparing/cutting meat correctly resulting in shredded bone pieces everywhere.
Bhindi just after a day I brought...see in photos and I garbage veg hara kebab it was rotten and when I checked the expiration date it was 2018 ...its a request to Apna baazar management atleast discard expiry date items.....sir why should I lie just because of $3.99?....Generally I dont keep receipts but ur ur bad luck that I got it some where...check the video because its too long to take a photo of it
Nice, big grocery store for Indian, Pakistani and Bangladeshi customers. Variety of stuff from fresh produce to cooked frozen food. Affordable prices. Highly recommend it. Open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Great Ramadan, Diwali and Thanksgiving sales. Recently opened up a halal meat joint in collaboration with As Salam meat. All kinds of meat including goat, chicken, beef, veal available. Meat shop open till 9 pm. Take Qurbani orders too.
Once among the largest Asian markets in the state. Over-crowding is common, ear-piercing noise around peak hours and attendants can be less than helpful. This place is one of the better Indian-Pakistan stores youll find anywhere, but it has its downsides as usual. Be sure to pick a register with a medium-sized line and stick to it no matter what, as getting moved to a new line quite often results in awkward situations with other shoppers shifting as well. Make sure you find an item with a price tag affixed as cashiers have no problem entering prices on-the-spot with confidence. Looking forward to seeing a Halal meat section in the back of the store.
I went there today to do shopping and there were few things i was not able to find i ask 4 employees to help me or atleast tell me where i can find those things but 3 employee was so rude they dont know how to talk to customers and didnt help me 1 employee he doesnt know about the stuff i was looking for i really had a bad experience in my life.
Worst experience ever. I came with my dad today. Never coming again. We came to get a vegetable that we heard they sell here. We found them but they were gross. There was bugs all over them. Needless to say I was grossed out. My dad wanted some oranges so he packed a few. We didnt count them just put them in a bag. We get to the counter register 1 Im not sure what the ladys name was but she was very rude. She grabs the bag and asks how many and we say we arent sure we didnt count. So she starts counting them through the bag and asks if theres 9. We say okay but we dont know. She then rips open the bag and starts taking them out and putting them in the grocery bag. Then she only puts half in the bag. The other half she leaves in the ripped bag she had and just pushes them in the same bag. We ended up leaving the money and left. Once again never again
Seems like theyre building a butcher station in the back (like how Maharaja does it). Cant wait to see the end result. Fairly good store; good prices. I generally wouldnt get things like dragonfruit there bc I can get fresher dragonfruit in Flushing but their produce section seems nice. I think they have an organic section where you can get organic haldi (powdered turmeric) and the like which is nice for those who want it. They were the first place I found that kept Himalayan pink salt at a reasonable price. I like their oil section because they have oils like pistachio oil, macadamia oil, roasted hazelnut oil, etc--all good for hair! I think this location started keeping organic virgin nonrefined coconut oil to compete with Patel Bros. Patel Bros definitely has it, I didnt look too closely here as I have enough coconut oil bit I definitely saw organic coconut oil--whether it was virgin and unrefined, I cant tell you. Itd be nice if they did because I wouldnt need to make a separate trip to Patel Bros for just one thing. Fairly happy woth Apna Bazaar. Ive been told that Patel Bros has better quality daal (lentils) and their dairy lasts longer than Apna Bazaars. I havent had any trouble with Apna Bazaars milk before (though I havent bought it from here recently; I pick it up a bit closer to home now). I usually dont buy daal so I cant greatly comment on that either..just thought it should be mentioned as a precaution. Their spice section includes things like fish sauce and various curry sauces (Thai red curry; Green curry; etc). The Thai red curry is pretty good (though I dont follow tje instructions on the back, I doctor it by cooking the veggies and chicken, adding some of the sauce instead of the whole thing, add extra red chili powder and coconut milk). Havent tried the green curry powder.Only thing Id really like to see--a weighing machine/scale to weigh your veggies.
DONT Buy anything from ,meat department they just open, everything old meat chicken any kind beef or ground beef , everything I cooked and eat I have stomachaches, NOT healthy meat, Other stuff in store so so mostly stuff in this store left over which they cant sale in other big stores, or close to expire date sometimes you find fresh vegetable or fruits some stuff its ok, But definitely meats are old it ll make you sick ,I shop like $150 meat and I waited till I cooked everything to see, everything I cooked makes me sick, just wanted to make sure before I make the comments shopping was about 4 weeks ago
The store it self is ok but the meat section is really not sanitary at all. I purchased lamb chops, they are expensive, spent $22 dolars on 2.5 pound of chops, but thats not a big deal, I came home and cooked it, I swear there were at least 10 pieces of male hair black and blond. I had to throw away the whole thing. $22 down the garbage. I called the store maybe 10 times and no answer. They dont like to answer their phones. DO NOT BUY ANTHING FROMTHE MEAT SECTION! It is grossssss
Cashier are very rude and non coprative. EVERY time over charge. Charge money more than posted price. And all so if you buy one bag of rice they charge two bag.because no one to much pay attention on bill.and some people did not want to go back.because they come from fare away. Plz all check your reciept slip.
Be careful with billing lady . They will extra charge you . They sometimes add extra items or they just add more cost on the items . Even you chase them they will not even apologize for it instead they will balim on it that we did not check it 😃. And obviously most of the items expired
Really Fresh vegetables, fruits. Price is really good. You can get all the deshi groceries here and its cleaner than Patel brothers. I dont know how they sell things in cheaper price. For example, Walmart / Shoprite/ pathmark everybody sells Tetly Tea near about $4.5, here its less by a dollar! Also you will get all kind of rice over here. Only one thing i did not like about them is Sweets. Not good at all.
West meets East at this slightly off-the-beaten-track of North Broadway/106 (across from Dollar Tree & PetCo) supermarket. When the baby ataulfo mangos are in season, its a MUST to purchase a case. They are hard to come by, super silky and sweet. Here they are a bargain, elsewhere, expensive. Also, the unsweetened powdered chai tea packets are so easy to make, filling, and very tasty (personal favorite is ginger chai and cardamom chai). The aisle of European and Turkish biscuits are also very reasonable and so many varieties to choose from, perfect accompaniment with chai. The produce is decent and the frozen Indian food is quite good. Not too clean looking, definitely in need of a re-do.
The cashiers are very racists towards the hispanic. They dont say anything and when they do its always in a rude way. They also leave all the groceries their for one to bag when it should be their job. They have enough money to open another supermarket but not enough to pay someone else to bag if the cashiers are so lazy. But if their is another colored (indian, trying not to be racist) person they are always so happy and very chatty. But with the gispanics they just murmur alot of things that we cant understand. Very bad personall in my opinion. Very dissatisfied.
Terrible customer service. Poor quality packaged food, flour has massive worms and when you call to complain they say that they simply dont care. And when you would like to speak to the manager he never wants to talk. Do not recommend at all. Would rather give 0 stars if possible
AVOID THIS PLACE!!!! I went to shop here after a long time and it was like going to a landfill, flies all over the place, rotten smelly vegetables...I saw ginger that had fungus growing on it..trash all around...completely run down place, does not seem like anyone supervises the store!!!!
Worst Grocery experience ever. I bought Shrimp, fruits, noodles and soups. Was worth about 57$. The shrimps were expired. Didnt have any expiration or manufacturing date. When I opened it up it smelled really bad. Fruits were mostly rotten inside. Noodles were okay but still expired. Never in my life I will shop again from this store.
My wife loves this place the vegetables and the fruit are alway fresh and delicious the people who work there are so nice and friendlyI have recommended family and friends and they have thank me and couldnt believe I have held this secret from them lolI wouldnt go anywhere else
The store manager Rana he had a very bad attitude if you ask him about some stuff he will never help you where it is these kind of people doesn’t deserve the post of manager he should help the customers first but he and his another employee was talking and doing timepass

2022-02-08One stop place for all your Indian needs!! You name it and it’s available here. Huge variety of veggies and other household needs! Slightly messed up aisles as the stocking up of inventory is usually in progress at the same time .It’s quite dirty and unhygienic though towards the restrooms area though , however surprisingly the loo is pretty clean . Women restroom has a diaper changing station too.Only problem is they’re way too expensive . Things are very costly almost double & triple the MRP I actually spent in India. I guess that’s the price one has to pay to find Indian things in a different country than your own!!However you got to buy what you got to buy , right ? So be it then.Recommend only in desperate needs !

2021-12-27Nastiest place I bought 4 fresh coconut, came home in 20 min and cut first coconut its rotten , the second one rotten again tried to do the third one thats rotten also, so called the store told them hoping they will be sorry for selling rotten coconuts and ripping off our hard working money , but after calling the store they told me they cant return or exchange cause they are not responsible for selling this rotten coconut !! So if you know you cant guarantee its fresh or rotten then why on earth you selling them? Each was around $4 I believe but its not only about money its about being honest and doing business.

2021-11-11Better than any other Apna Bazaar in New York. Clean, organized and plenty of room. I highly recommend this place to visit at night. Having a parking lot is a great way to go.

2022-02-23This is one of my favorite places to buy fruits vegetables spices and ethnic products. They have a vast selection and the store is always well stucked. The store is clean and well organized. The fruits and vegetables are fresh and extremely reasonably priced. They carry many kosher products

2022-04-17This supermarket is filthy and smells very awful. Employees don’t wear uniforms. They also sell rotten produce, food and drinks that expired and smells very bad. This is a zero star ratings. This supermarket will go downhill for good. I would not recommend this supermarket to anyone.

2022-03-22Was in this store twice past few months. Prices are never visible, the store is not clean , there are animals inside. I saw birds flying and eating out of bags of flour and rice . When I mentioned it to the cashier she said we know but no one does anything about it. I grabbed some food I needed and it was way overpriced, but I did not know until I got the recipt because nothing is listed. Then when I got home the food I got was all broken and messed up. I can buy cheaper kibbeh in a regular grocery store thats not broken.

2020-07-09Pretty awesome store and I appreciate the fact that the hours were sold monthly especially when many businesses are closing early. Definitely some place to check out if you’re in a neighborhood and need a variety of groceries and or produce.

2022-06-07Sounth East Asian grocery store. They are selling very low quality produce in front of the store in discount price. Need to be very careful purchasing those fruits and vegetables as some of them already start rotten.
