My stay was outstanding. I received wonderful care from nurses and aides at all shifts – no job or task too hard when it comes to giving patients excellent care. And it’s always done with a smile and pleasant attitude. Regarding rehab, Excellent doesn’t begin to describe the level of care and support I received from my physical and occupational therapists. My stay was happy and unforgettable because of them. I finished every session with a feeling of accomplishment, really getting better every day. I am grateful to everybody for doing a great job and making me feel at home.
I want to thank the entire staff for the incredible care of my mother. She received excellent nursing, aide, rehab, and medical care. Everyone we encountered was courteous, friendly and made sure my mother felt comfortable and involved with all aspects of care. Every time we visited, she was in good spirits and felt comfortable and safe throughout her five weeks of recovery at Mary Manning Walsh Home. We cant thank the entire staff enough for the respect and excellent medical care she received.
I commend this facility for its professionalism and extremely high level of Rehab. Our family witnessed it with my 90 years old mother who was admitted to Mary Manning rehab after she fell and had to undergo surgery to repair her fractured femur and a broken wrist. With staff’s encouragement and guidance, my mother has improved. Her mobility and confidence got better every day due to the superb therapists who were willing to go the extra mile when needed.
My grandmother was there recovering from a hip surgery and after being there for less than a week, she fell out of bed and fractured her hip right below where she just got surgery on. We had put our faith in this home after hearing such wonderful things but what I dont understand is why wasnt my grandmother being watched closely. Completely unacceptable and shame on you! My grandmothers body has been through enough trauma!
Shockingly inept place. They were supposed to provide physical therapy to my relative and help them after surgery to be ready to care for themselves at home. After two days of providing 20 minutes of therapy a day, and not having prescribed meds available, they declared she was ready to be discharged in two business days. I have never been engaged with a place that was so incompetent and unable to provide the basic functions it professes to offer. Its an appalling organization.
My mother was recently discharged after being on rehab floor for one month. From the beginning, she was assigned to excellent therapists. At the onset, they took the time to build rapport with my mother. They showed patience and compassion trying to find ways to motivate her to stand, transfer and walk. In addition, they were focused and dedicated to being sure she accomplished her therapy goals. They showed creativity and ingenuity. In the end, my mother’s progress was better than we had hoped.
I was just a resident of the HSS Floor (8th) HSS STAFF - OUTSTANDING - ATTENTIVE - Supportive Caring - cannot say the same for the overnight supervisors of MM coming to 8th floor and verbally abusing and intimidating staff at 3am - very unprofessional - and prevented staff from attending to patients she had awakened with her tirade
My husband was admitted to Mary Manning Welsh for an injury that required rehab this summer. Due to Covid, we were not allowed to see him except for window visits. When such an event, crisis occurs I understand that protocols may lax, but you think a large facility like Mary Manning Welsh would have found ways of handling the new issues they now face. I had to call EVERY DAY just to find out where, how, my husband was doing as doctors, care takers, would go weeks without a response. My father had several falls in the facility, which we were not notified until days after they occurred. My daughter and I were allowed to set up a window visit, which was the worse experience ever. To see my husband from the street side walk through a window, a man who has trouble seeing and hearing, also suffering from dementia, and have him try to communicate through a glass was horrendous. My daughter noticed that his jaw looked off. When we asked the nursing staff if he suffered an injuries we were told no. We also had a lot of trouble with ill experienced Social Workers, who may have had too many cases on their hands or lacked general knowledge. My husband ended up in the emergency room months later for heart problems. Upon in the ER the doctors asked if they could do a CT Scan of his head and neck and there they discovered an old injury from a fall months ago that showed he broke his jawline. I find Mary Manning Welshes lack of ability to have noticed my husbands jaw and my daughters report of it, disgusting. I contacted the Director of Mary Manning Welsh to discuss my husbands care during his time there and a social worker who lacked experience covering his case, but no one ever got back to me. I am not seeing, having had to deal with nursing home the last year of my husbands life, how terribly managed they are. I would suggest Riverside Rehab and Long Term care as they seem to be better experienced, equipped to take care of the elderly. It also makes me sad to see the old and the lack of 5 start treatment they deserve, go on undeserved.
Ive been there twice and was welcomed back the second time. Therapy is great, especially with the Covid restrictions. Staff is caring. They excell at the important stuff. In other areas like food, they are good enough.I believe they are the best sub-acute physical therapy rehab in Manhattan.
Overall, I would rate our experience as Good. I want to say a big “Thank You” to Rehab department at MMW. When my mother was transferred there for rehab from the hospital, she was unable to stand or walk. Her occupational therapist was instrumental in helping my mother regain her daily living activities. She was very caring and patient in providing therapy to my mom and deserves a special recognition.
While the Center itself is very nice, facilities, rooms, physiotherapists, the quality of care is lacking, especially with the nurses. There is generally a lack of compassion and caring among the nurse staff, though some individual nurses are better than others. When you need immediate assistance the nurses are not responsive often taking more than half an hour to respond. My mother asked for a bedpan the first day she arrived and they forced her to go to the bathroom with assistance and she was not able to get back up off the toilet and the nurses eventually gave up and left her there there for two hours and then brought the lifter. She needed a the toilet height extender but they said it wasn’t available, that would helped her get off the toilet much easier as it’s currently too low. My mother asked to see a doctor for 2 days as her foot was completely swollen and no doctor came and the nurses kept saying they informed the doctor but no one followed up. On the positive side, the physiotherapists are very good and encouraging.
My overall experience at Mary Manning Walsh has been very helpful in my recovery. I had a major surgery on my fractured femur, hip and knee and I thought I would never walk again. With the patience, determination, empathy, and expertise of my therapists, I was able to go home with a rollator and now getting better every day with the outside therapy. I highly recommend this Rehab.
What is happening at Mary Manning? I have had two friends who stayed there at different times a few years ago. I was impressed by the quality of care and the professionalism of the place.Today, I called to inquire about the current visiting protocol since we are now in quite a different situation with Covid 19.The first person who answered, without any greeting that I had reached Mary Manning, angrily barked, literally, YES, and transferred me to an extension where I got a recorded message that the voicemail had not been set up.The second call, a man this time, was equally rude. After asking me to spell the name of the person I wanted to visit, he told me I could not visit in the nursing unit and hung up on me before I could ask why she would be in a nursing unit when she should have been in rehab. The third person, although more polite was still not more helpful.I later found out from my friend that she had been put in Nursing because there was no place for her in Rehab at the moment. It is not acceptable that the staff would not have been made aware of this fact and I am appalled at the way the phones are handled, the rudeness and the complete unprofessionalism. How can this be allowed by Mary Manning management?More importantly, with these attitudes, one wonders about the quality of the actual care.
My father was admitted to the Dawn Greene Hospice on the 15th floor of the Mary Manning Walsh Nursing Home (run by the Archdiocese of New York and the Sisters of the Precious Blood), and the nurses, aides and support staff there are outstanding. The hospice has only 10 beds, so the nurses and aides are able to be very responsive to the patients needs. The environment is very peaceful, and care that my father has been given as he lives out the last weeks of his life is top notch. I cant say what the care and atmosphere of the rest of Mary Manning Walsh nursing home is like, but the hospice and the people who work there are angels with hidden wings, as far as Im concerned. In particular, I really appreciate Sister Deirdre, who has visited my father every day since he arrived, to talk with him and to pray for him. The Hospice doctor is very compassionate, and very clear in her explanations of the progress of the final stages of cancer, how it affects our loved ones, and what the staff are doing to ease their patients last days. The hospice is kept very clean, and definitely doesnt have that nasty nursing home smell that characterized such places when I was young. My family has not had any problems at all being connected to the Calvary Floor nurses station when we call to find out how our Dad is doing, and they are very happy to transfer the call into my Dads room when he is awake.
My mother stayed in rehab for almost 6 weeks after a fall and 2 pelvic fractures. She is now home and able to walk again; however, when she arrived at MMW from the hospital, the pain was excruciating. She was very weak, unable to move because of pain, and needed at least two people for assistance. She was also very depressed and we were both uncertain about her future. Despite our fears, mom’s recovery process was really amazing. Nurses and aides attended to all her needs, they were very kind and caring. Her occupational and physical therapists were outstanding. Their professionalism, patience, and encouragement helped us both a great deal. We are truly grateful!
While staff at Mary Manning Walsh is exemplary, I would like to make special mention of my physical and occupational therapists. Rehab is not meant to be “fun” but they both made my stay at MMW far less painful on every level than I could have imagined. They were always positive and gave me the most encouraging pep talks when I was at my most anxious. Both pushed me to work hard but knew just where my limit was and pushed no further. I truly looked forward to my sessions.
My mother in-law stayed here after a hip replacement. They continuously messed up her blood pressure medicine for an entire week, even after numurous conversations with the staff. Im just grateful she had her wits about her and knew the dose was wrong. They also gave her a hard time about wanting less pain medication. They are seriously understaffed and have too many patients for each of them to get good care. There was a long wait for anything to get done or to receive things like an elevated toilet seat (basic item after a hip surgery). The cleaning crew kicked everyone out of their rooms for half a day to mop the floors. They advised everyone not to bring cash but then didnt accept credit card for things like a hip kit. It was like staying in a bad hotel. For all the money they receive, they should have more staff.
Please don’t send your loved ones here. This is legitimate. Mom is in short-term sub acute rehab. Her care has been sub-par and inexcusable. Some people are ok and some are caring but most are apathetic, lazy and don’t care. Choose an alternate rehab in NYC or elsewhere. Legitimate lawsuit situations. Selected facility based on laurels and hospital recommendation. We were in a bind and seemed best option. Thought Mary Manning would be equipped to handle. Mom has moderate Alzheimer’s, CHF and suffered a fracture from fall. Was pretty alert and independent through date of fall. Now practically catatonic. Understaffed, administer wrong meds, left mom unattended and she fell only to be found on the floor awhile later by a doctor making rounds. It’s all the horror stories you don’t think can happen to you - but they did. We now have 24/7 aides at cost of almost $1,000 day. Complicated to move her. She’s in worse shape than when she arrived. Me and brothers are professionals, responsible, involved. We understand her situation and risks and are realistic. This facility may have been good years ago but please don’t let them fool you. Independent agency we use for our high net worth clients at work advised that the facility would be a C+ at best and no longer provides care it once did.
Your Rehab is a blessing. My physical therapist was knowledgeable, professional, motivational and kind. She always explained targeted goals and motivated me to work despite pain. She made me feel confident in her and her therapeutic skills. I went home knowing she is a blessing and that I am lucky she treated me. I give rehab five stars and four stars for the overall care.
I was truly impressed by the caring sensitive way the aides took care of my needs. They responded promptly to my needs and thorough in making sure I wouldn’t develop any sores. If I needed anything, they would respond on a moment’s notice. My nurse was concerned about my recovery and always ready to help and provide answers. I was blessed to be under their care.
I almost let negative reviews deter me from bringing my Dad here following his hospital stay---and with all respect to others experiences, I must say we had an excellent stay. The PT and OT was first class, the doctors and nurses very responsive, the aides kind and most professional. The only weak link was the food---I brought my own dinners for my Dad. But, really, we had a highly satisfactory experience and my Dad is leaving, a new man!
I am eternally grateful to the staff of Mary Manning Walsh for their time, patience, and professionalism. Rehab therapists have been an invaluable asset in helping me regain mobility and independence in my time of need. I cannot thank you enough for the helpful services and care you provided.
A dear friend had one rehab stay at MMW two years ago. Her treatment was excellent. The staff was warm, caring, and knowledgeable. She is about to go for a second stay after a second fracture. We are delighted, and greatly relieved, that they have a bed for her again. I would happily be a patient there myself.
My Mom was very lovingly cared for on the 10th floor. She came to this facility scared, anxious and in a lot of pain. Her aides, nurses, housekeeper and other staff always consoled her and brought joy into her days. It is awesome when people so lovingly do all their work. Thank you all for your smiles, cheerfulness and hard work!
I dont even want to give this place a star. My grandmother is currently here for rehab after suffering a stroke. The care that she is receiving is terrible. The staff has no bedside manners. No one introduces themselves when they come into her room, they come and go as they please. When she presses the call button, sometimes they come, sometimes it takes over 30 minutes. When the nursing staff goes on break, they all go- they leave one person to care for the entire floor. My grandmother is a fall risk- she has fallen out of her bed 3x in one week. There is severe lack of care here. Stay away from this place if you are considering bringing your loved one here for rehab. Not sure how this place got a five star rating. It is awful.
I have been very impressed by the new doctor who took over the telemetry unit. She is very caring and shows real interest. The nurses and aides are hardworking and caring people. We are lucky to have such professionals taking care of us.I give this facility 5 stars for sure.
Rehab team has been extremely helpful to my recovery from a traumatic incident that left me unable to walk. I was transferred to Mary Manning not knowing what was in store, since nothing like this has ever happened to me before. My therapists were professional, attentive, caring, and a major reason my recovery went well.
I am grateful for the exemplary care I received from MMW rehab therapists, doctor and nursing staff. It had been a very difficult time for me, but it could have been much worse without the dedication and expertise of MMW personnel.I admire the competency, dedication and genuine care of PT and OT. They were truly inspiring, encouraging, very supportive, and genuinely concerned. It is because of them the positive atmosphere, I happily home now, able to walk again!
Kudos to nurses and aides. My nurse always had a smile on her face and was always in a cheerful mood. She was most accommodating and has helped me with everything I needed. And she did it so graciously and comprehensively. My aide was as helpful as could be, always cheerful and amenable to any task that was necessary and to anything that I might need.
Place is clean but my mom fractured hip and not mobile and if we are not there to ask for attendants, she gets no care. She has twice gotten very dehydrated and constipated. It is very frustrating but we have had to have a family member at the facility more or less 24/7 to make sure the attendants and nurses do not take 3 or more hours to get to her. When we are there, they are responsive but only because we have been a constant presence. It is very very unfortunate. And tonight we are paying several hundred dollars we do not have to have someone sit in her room and ask for a person to do their job and either provide light nursing care or clean up services or just check on our mom to make sure her oxygen is still running. She needed CPAP and often that stops working properly and then her oxygen saturation drops and she needs someone to make sure she gets back to normal. And this is a top facility. If your family member is mobile this should not be an issue but they ignore
Documenting my Dads experience publicly because of bad past experiences at Rehabs. So now I will rate daily while he currently receiving services. DAY 1 arrived at 1:15pm or so, Nurses and Therapists very attentive, came to greet right away within 2 hours of entry. Asked for a lunch tray for my Dad also received right away from Day Nurse. No clue who the Day shift Aide was as I never seen her or she didnt introduce herself to me. Asked the front desk clerk to speak with Admissions and was told they are in a meeting they will come to my Dads room (didnt happen but a courtesy call could have been made). 1 star deductedNight Shift Aide is 50/50. Rang bell for assistance with cleaning my Dad up. She came to the room as I was talking with Charge Nurse and out the corner of my eye I saw her turn off the call button. She waited until I finished speaking with Charge, asked me what did I need. Told her my Dad was soiled and needed help to change him, she tells me to wait because its shift change, now Im confused because why did she come if we have to wait. So I waited a little, watching my Dad pull at his diaper and went to ask for supplies because no one should have to wait to get feces off their skin. While seeking supplies the same Aide was standing in the hallway chatting casually with another Aide which sent my pressure up. I asked for the supplies, cleaned up my Dad and she comes in saying oh you finished already knowing she took way too long. I said its not healthy or right someone should wait so long to be cleaned when they called for help and help came but didnt help like they were supposed to. She had the nerve to tell me that we didnt ring the call bell and I know we did cause the Therapist showed me exactly what to push and I did, even heard it ringing. Let alone I saw her turn it off but she didnt know I saw her, smh. After I called her out on her actions, she then assisted us with other things, gathered clothes so my Dad could at least start Therapy the next day because we didnt have any clothes coming straight from hospital but didnt come back in to check on him as the night progressed. I changed him again by myself. (took away 1/2 of a star)Night Charge Nurse was attentive to my Dads care as well. Examined him and stated what was needed to help keep him comfortable. Whether it was put into place, check back tomorrow DAY 2. Reviewed his medications and requested Doctors input but no call as of yet or any updates of any changes. (took 1/2 of a star)Night medication Nurse was also very attentive. Asked how my Dad takes his meds, with what and gave exactly what was stated. Administered meds with care taking the time to wipe away any residue left behind. Then took notice that I was there past 9pm and offered me a place to lay down to get some rest. I decline but was happy to know overnight accommodations could be made.Upon leaving spoke with Night Charge Nurse to have someone check on my Dad to make sure he was clean and dry.Encountered Night Security at least the one sitting on the lounge chair chatting on his cell phone who was very abrupt. My first time at the facility at night not knowing that the front doors close at 9pm or how to exit and he points and mumbles something. Clueless I say excuse me? and again abruptly tells he me to follow the carpet to get out. (took away 1/2 star for that experience)Food tasted good (cause I tasted before giving to my Dad), portions are good too and my father ate both meals without issues. (added back 1/2 of a star)All in all DAY 1 was okay but could have been better. Returning tonight to see how Dad is doing.
5 stars for the staff. 0 stars for management. The staff is visibly overworked. You should expect critical services to not come in a timely fashion, and for the staff to make mistakes due to being overworked. Also, the communication and coordination between departments is poor.I squarely place the blame for the dysfunctional environment on the management, not the hard working employees.
My mother-in-law is a resident at MMW. I have seen her caregivers attend to the needs of the residents in a very caring manner. They make sure that residents have their bath, food, and daily meds. They work hard and go out of the way to help everyone. We feel save and confident that mom is well taken care of.
When I arrived at Mary Manning Walsh Home after surgery I was quite weak. After a week or so, there indeed was a difference and I am grateful to everyone for excellent attention to me. I am also indebted to my physical and occupational therapists. Thank you for being there!
My mother, the most wonderful woman in the world, had to stay here for a while, and its a shame.I hated every second she had to spend here. It is horrible! The nurses and staff do not care about the people they are paid to care for! Not even house keeping does anything. They leave the rooms filthy. I wish I had a house, not an apartment, or my mom would have been with my family and myself, so she could at least have had her dignity. I wouldnt recomend this place to anyone! It is shameful that the employees at this nursing home take no pride in their work and good people have to pay for their behavior.
Loved MMW. The Pt rehab was great esp PT John R. Very professional and knowledgable. The staff on 11 were also professional and caring. Sister Deidre and Sister Michael Mary were very kind.Security personnel of patients needs reviewing and supervision. Perhaps more compassionate training.
My aunt went into their hospice care on the 15th floor in the end of January and passed away there on March 2nd. She received wonderful care. The doctor is a truly an angel sent from God. She is kind, honest, compassionate and loving. The nurses and aids were so devoted to all of their patients. I truly believe they are doing Gods work here on earth.
Unfathomable incompetence, negligence and worse at every level. Finally when we tried to get my mom out of there - no one would answer phones, only voicemail boxes that were full - we could reach only one person and she told us it would take 72 hours to get an ambulance to move her. So many things happened that were beyond your worst nightmare. And there is no one to reach to address problems: after 4 days of trying to reach a social worker - no luck!Stay away from this place!!!!
I am grateful to everyone at MMW - doctors, nurses, aides, therapists, and support staff. Together, they brought me back to health, made me smile and look forward to each day despite my pain. And they did it with grace, love and care. I highly recommend this facility.
I have serious doubts about this place. My mother is there right now.. has been for about a week. The elevators are often on the fritz, leaving just one elevator for the whole building. I waited 8 minutes for it to reach the first floor and it took another five minutes to get to the 13th floor because so many people needed to get on and off. Trying to leave is even worse. When I call my mother, they repeatedly disconnect me or misdirect the call, then reprimand me for reaching the wrong department. The floor my mother is on has one nurse for the whole large ward and you are lucky to see her for longer than it takes for vitals to be taken. Some of the people have been very nice, thank goodness, but overall I get an impression of indifference and a poorly run facility. At one point my mothers alarm was triggered when she moved too far from the bed. No one ever came and I figured out how to disarm it myself. When she first arrived, her TV was on and the remote was gone. It stayed on for 3 days.I did some digging and found this 2014 article in the Gotham Gazette; Mary Manning Walsh is one of the lowest-rated nursing homes in Manhattan, according to the federal Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). It is one of the two nursing homes in Manhattan rated one star (out of five) in the health inspection category. The CMS equates one star with much below average care. The average health inspection rating for the 18 nursing homes in Manhattan is 3.5 stars. The CMS gave the facility only two stars (out of five) for overall quality, whereas the average rating in the borough is four stars. The CMS equates two stars with below average care.A higher-than-average percentage of short-term residents at the 362-bed nursing home suffer problems with bedsores, according to data compiled by the New York State Department of Health. The data show that 2.2 percent of residents at the facility have bedsores that are new or worsened, compared to an average of 1.4 percent statewide and 1.3 percent the nationwide. In another health-related matter, Mary Manning Walsh was fined $6,500 last year for excessively hot water in the sinks in residents’ rooms. State inspectors measured water temperatures as high as 136 degrees – hot enough to blister the skin after 10 seconds of exposure, according to safety guidelines.Other deficiencies reported by CMS and state Health Department in the past three years include errors in administering medication, failure to report medication errors and failure to store and cook food in a safe way. Inspectors also reported that 15 percent of the residents at Mary Manning Walsh exhibit symptoms of depression, compared to an average of 12 percent statewide and 6.6 percent nationwide.Jpiece in the Gotham Gazette:
PT and OT in the home were very good. The food however was terrible. There was an alternate menu and supposedly if you called prior to the meal you could order something different however many times that did not work. Nutrition is extremely important after any surgery. Most of the staff was accommodating.
I can not even give this dump a star. My mother was there for a rehab after a broken hip. She was released with no supervision. I picked her up with no medical history, or any instructions on after care. Then the administration called with sincere apologies, trying to apologize. They were claiming to have gone over discharge with my mother who has dementia! If you can go any other place save your family member from not being properly cared for !!!
My aunt was at Mary Manning Walsh a number of times for rehab. WHenever she went there she always went right back to way she was before she entered Mary Manning. The staff at Mary Manning is the best. I have to say that the staff at Mary Manning Walsh is a caring compassionate staff. My aunt passed away on December 27th at Mary Manning and she died with dignity. I would recommend Mary Manning to anyone. My aunt loved Mary Manning and if she wanted to die anywhere she said that it would be at Marry Manning.
My cousin has been there. They told her that the craft classes were not for here. Se had to sit there and make things for them to sell in the gift shop because they needed the money. There are strict laws against residents being told they must do slave labor.I have checked the ratings of the facility -- is is dead least of all nursing homes in the 5 Boroughs of NYC.
I dislike this place because of their lousy aides in 2nd floor especially. When their patients move their bowels, they hardly attend to them on time. When the patient s companions try to call on their attention, they verbally abuse the companion. In a nutshell, they are very nasty.
If you do not care about staying alive and you want to die a horrible death this is the place for you. Food = 0, staff = 0, care = 0, chances of dying because of the lack of care =10, bedside manner = -10, management = -100, ckeanliness = -500 killed 5 cockroches in first 10 minutes and 5 more appeared in first hour, STAY AWAY IF YOU CARE ABOUT YOUR LOVED ONES.

2022-04-10My 92-year-old mother-in-law needed rehab after complications from a heart-valve replacement procedure at NY Presbyterian. We looked at Google reviews after Mary Manning was recommended by the staff at NYP, and we almost chose another facility (with only marginally better reviews) because of the frankly terrifying 1-star reviews here. Luckily we decided to go with Mary Manning on the strong recommendation of a couple of doctor friends. We were very pleased with the facilities, the staff, and the overall ambiance of the place. I feel sympathy for the other people who have written terrible reviews of Mary Manning because they lost a loved one here or saw their condition worsen. I obviously dont know the details of their specific situations but I think its fair to remember that elderly people who end up in a nursing-home facilities are usually quite fragile and often chronically ill. I didnt see any behavior or witness any actions (at least on the rehab floor) that suggested there was a culture of negligence or ineptitude here. My mother was in a nursing home in another state for nearly two years, and it was considered to be one of the best in the area, but it pales in comparison to the cleanliness of this place and the competence of its staff. To the latter point, the supervising nurse (Beverly!) on my mother-in-laws floor gave us her cell-phone number the first time we spoke with her, never hesitated to pick up or return calls quickly when we werent there, and always made a point to check in when we were. My mother-in-law is now back in her apartment after 10 days in rehab. While Mary Manning is certainly not perfect (the food, as has been mentioned elsewhere, is not so great), its quite good, and it certainly worked for her. We are all deeply grateful to the staff who took such good care of her while she was there. (Also, FYI, they had a very stringent Covid policy -- visitors had to be tested every time they visited -- as of one week ago.)

2022-07-10I had the most wonderful care at Mary Manning Walsh at 72nd street and York Avenue. I had fractured my pelvis and was in the facility for a month. The incredible doctors and nurses and staff brought me back to being able to walk (with a cane) and were simply superb. I will be forever grateful to this great rehab center.

2022-04-08My mother was on the 13th floor for 5 weeks after hip surgery. The staff was kind and competent and she particularly liked her therapists. Admin was responsive to any issues we had and very helpful even regarding issues that werent strictly their responsibility.

2022-04-26This place is awful. Today the aids on the fourth floor were fighting, and security had to be called to break it up. My husband was doing well at PT, but it was stopped with no explanation. Now he can’t get out of bed.Tremendous shortage of competent aids, doctors, and nurses. We would like to bring in private PT, but are not allowed. At the height of Covid they asked on the sign-in sheet if you had been vaccinated. Many people wrote NO. There are rarely two competent aids available to get him in a wheelchair. We still don’t know why he is in terrible shape. We believe it is due to neglect at MMW. His mind is perfect. Sometimes he gets his meds, and some times not. They say it has to come from New Jersey!

2022-06-02I would never go back. I had read good reviews and was hopeful. But it was an unpleasant experience. I was stuck there for weeks. The food was OK. The physical therapy was sufficient. The staff was hostile and acted like they were doing us a favor. On arrival I asked for a glass of water and was given hot water. When I asked for cold the attendant said, oh no, another complainer. But the worst, which may seem trivial was the “beauty “salon. I went three times as I needed my hair washed. The first time the hairdresser dried it with curling tongs and said it was easier for her. The second one wouldn’t let any of us seen ourselves in the mirror. When I asked why she said that patients only want alterations if they see themselves. The last one said to me after she had finished, that I looked more beautiful than her, and all the men would want me. I decided she meant well and I should educate her. I told her she was young and pretty and I was over 70 and had lost a lot of weight and I knew I wasn’t beautiful. I told her it was hurtful even though she meant well, as it reminded me of when I was young and beautiful. But there was no stopping her. She kept it up till I was in tears. Look she said, wheeling me to the mirror and putting her face next to her, see how beautiful you are. I was reminded of that awful scene in The Elephant Man movie. This might seem a small thing but it’s bad enough being old and sick. The facility was constantly running out of gowns - this was pre-Covid. The “entertainment was aimed at the over 90’s.If you aren’t Catholic the TV masses might annoy you.Hope this helps.

2022-04-24Understaffed ( one RN for 16 rooms), medicine administration in violation of professional licensing laws. Meds witheld x 2.5 hours despite reporting excruciating pain. NO liason with HSS surgeon. On site MD did not read medical history and arbitrarily tried to prescribe a medication that HSS had discontinued and was contraindicated.Fall precautions ignored. Incompetent, dangerous, unethical facility. I would not board my pets there.

2022-04-15Those pics of POC are a crock. They try hard to avoid admitting them. No matter what insurance you have theyll find an excuse to keep you out. Either they dont have room or they dont accept your insurance. This is coming from a medical professional. A journalist investigation is pending

2022-03-11My father was re-hospitalised with sepsis and kidney failure after spending three weeks at Mary Manning Walsh following abdominal surgery. This was after he was almost sent by MMW for a blood transfusion because a nurse read the results of a blood test wrong. Shocking levels of incompetence and neglect. Do not put your loved ones in this place.

2022-01-28My aunt died of an infection in her blood or in simple words negligence after they didn’t clean her bed sores or rotate her she had her leg amputated because she caught such a bad infection. My cousin should have sued them but she was so emotionally damaged and drained she didn’t want to deal with it. Til this day I wish she had.

2022-04-11Nasty people answering the phone. They say Security and then you talk, they say they cant hear you but then they transfer you off into oblivion. It would be nice if the direct number didnt go to Security, unless those are the only people onsite. Geez, who would want to go there?
