This restaurant is no doubt one of the best place in the neighborhood. Always when I come there I am highly satisfied. They preserve their high level service and the topmost level of dishes they serve. You definitely will enjoy this this restaurant. Warmly recommended.
I have a weak spot for eateries that are just themselves. I was hungry and had the sausage gravy breakfast bowl. it was really good. Coffee was fresh and hot. Waitress was polite and attentive without making me feel like they were turning tables. A great neighborhood establishment.
Your classic local home town restaurant. The food is consistently good, portion sizes are awesome for the price you’re paying, and the waitress (I’m not sure of her name but she’s been there for so many years) is the sweetest person. Their specials are decent and I go back time and time again. Worth the stop if you’re passing through- and if you’re local, you probably already know how good this place is (you don’t need this review to tell you)!Edit: came to restaurant today and got a BLT with cheese. No cheese was on the BLT when the sandwich was brought out, so I pointed that out when I paid. The waitress yelled to the back (to the cook) “you didn’t put any cheese on that BLT?!” and then said she was going to adjust the bill. The price she charged me AFTER taking off the cheese was MORE than the price that was on the ticket with the cheese.
Dropped an elderly friend off in Port Jarvis and stopped by to have lunch. Friendly local place, popular with locals, ordered burger with toppings and fries. Burger was an 8 oz. Monster and the fries were both Hot and Not Greasey! Enjoyed that and a home made cookie at the counter. Will stop there again on Sunday, when I go to pick her up! If youre in the area-stop by-you could do worse!
Fantastic burgers, authentic home town diner filled with Americana. The food is very good quality, expertly prepared and truly delicious. Prices are reasonable. Portions are large. Service is fast, friendly and professional. Great top quality diner located convenient to Exit 1 off RT 84! Easy in, easy out. Great dessert options. Highly recommend for travellers and locals alike.
Fun little restaurant with friendly and helpful staff. I had a hot pastrami on rye that was piled a mile high and tender as could be. My wife had the meatloaf sandwich and quite enjoyed it. We didnt do any desserts, but they were very tempting sitting at the counter. Well definitely be stopping here again the next time were in the area!
Excellent service. Can handle groups. Good food.Definitely lacks the curb appeal and the interior has a short ceiling. Did not think I would like it nor that they could handle our group of 23 people. I must say that we could not have a better experience. The waitress was great. She was the only one working and was effective with everyone (not just our group). Amazing with the kids. Meany Burger was good and were homemade patties. Not a fan of the ice tea (sweet tea). In sum, the service was excellent.
The very long wait was not worth it... To be fair, we arrived to a full house. The waitress advised there would be a wait. We grabbed a two-top table by the bar area and ordered coffee, water and our meal. Coffee cups are tiny and were filled only once during the nearly one-hour wait and the waitress slopped coffee all over the saucers and table. We never saw her again in the 50 minutes we waited for our food. We finally received water glasses just before the meal. Blueberry pancakes were OK but undercooked in the center, over-easy eggs were cooked well done and the side of bacon was two tiny little strips ($8.95). My husbands biscuit and gravy bowl was average. Maybe they were just having a bad day but I doubt well be back to find out.
Been coming here since I was a kid. It had been about a decade before my visit today but the food and service are as good as ever. Im not in the area much but when I am I have to stop in. The chicken in a basket is especially good. Highly recommended for some great homestyle deliciousness.
I had the Meany Burger and my friend choose the Fish and Chips. The burger was excellent. Tender, very juicy and cooked a perfect medium, which is what I ordered. My friend enjoyed his meal. The fish was crispy and fried just right. Although the fries were not fresh cut they were acceptable. I would definitely stop there again when passing through PJ, NY.
My son and I stopped here for breakfast on way to PA... Wow delicious eggs bacon pancakes and fresh preserves... Coffee was great. staff were very friendly. Many old local pictures dress the walls ... I look for these kind of places because lifes too short to eat at a corporation
Stopped for a quick breakfast and it was anything but quick. Waitress was good but cook couldnt handle12 or so customers. Bacon was overcooked, as well as the over easy eggs. Fried potatoes were in large chunks and had no seasoning at all. Jelly was served in Tupperware container. Overall I was not impressed. Wont go back.
Well, the only positive is that the name of their signature burger is very fitting! The Meany burger, served by the meany people! Very unfriendly place of business. I came with my daughter and felt very unwelcome, almost like I was bothering them by coming in there. Thanks, but no thanks!
Horrible service waited an hour to get refills on our drinks, took over an hour to bring out food and when it arrived the order was completely wrong. The food wasnt cooked all the way and what was was cold by the time it was served. There were eggshells in the scrambled eggs and the pancakes tasted like cardboard. Definitely would not recommend
So, its WOW! time when I went to tco my crdt crd bill after our long rd trip from the Midwest to Cape Cod. This was our very 1st place we stopped when we got to NEW YORK & I really felt the owners were from back home as they conversed with us as we were family. The Breakfast was amazing with corned beef hash crisped up the way I like & not greasy! YUMMY!Wished we could have stayed to do lunch also! So very homey (country style) with the decor, clean & very decent priced! (Was expecting a lot of $ in N.Y.) Constructive feed back would be: perhaps update the 1 rest room just a bit. And recall something odd with floor slanted? The Door? Not a deal breaker for us & would certainly go back again.(& pssst! For health reasons may not want to serve jelly in an open tupperware? How many will lick a knife & reinsert to get more?)This is a great family, all American Restaurant to welcome travelers!
Arlene n Toms were a planned designation for Wife, daughter and I after visiting Space Farms Zoo and museum. We found it on Google food looked good so after the Zoo we drove the 14 miles to go. Arlene n Toms is a cool cozy homely diner. We were greeted upon entering told sit were we like window view is cool. Right now its road work going on so thats that.Enough small talk lets get down to business why are we here. Drinks wife ordered cranberry juice my daughter and I ordered coffee. I just my daughter wants to be grown like her Dad. Now now youngin this isnt what you do stay in your lane LOL. French toast, scrabbled egg and bacon is what my wife ordered pancakes and scrabbled eggs my daughters order. Now when I see corn beef hash on the menu I stop reading. This is back in the day eating for me childhood food.Corn beef has platter is ordered hash eggs over easy home fries and rye toast. Daughter pancakes had a hint of vanilla in it nice touch. Wife food looked good and it must have been cause she cleaned her plate lol. Eggs were scrabbled hard with cheese perfect for wife and daughter. Ok enough of that lets talk about the hash is it homemade no thats not what I remembered its from the can and I am ok with that. Eggs over easy good home fries crispy but not hard and dry nicely done. Coffee refills for me daughter tapped out on first cup went with cranberry juice like her Mommy. We like the setting like the food I like the drive wife didnt like the drive lol. Owners having small talk with us keeping it engaging. All in all nice first part of the day.
Went there with my boyfriend and we waited 20 minutes and the waitress didnt even ask for a drink order. We got up to walk out and the waitress then said Im going to be with you in just a minute. I really wanted to try this place from passing by all the time but now I will never go back and will tell everyone not to go.
I have dined many many times at Tom and Arlenes for breakfast lunch and dinner ..the staff is very nice & friendly.the food is very good especially breakfast .I have only 2 complaints.# 1 is they use canned vegetables.and #2 The MENS bathroom smells really bad .and it could use a make over.and some sort of deodorizer or air freshener

2022-02-03Everything was over the top. The best burger I have ever had. It was so huge they had to put it on a hard roll. The beef was just seasoned perfectly

2022-03-26Havent been here in 20 years and looks exactly the same. Service was quick and breakfast was good. We got basic eggs , Bacon 🥓 and home fries. Prices were average for good portions. Place looked clean except the only thing that made me look twice was the condition of the salt and pepper shakers. They were a bit dirty and grimy and looked like they hadnt been cleaned since I last used them 20 years ago. Overall quite Good 👍😊

2021-06-06This is the best place to eat in Port Jervis! If you love burgers, YOU HAVE TO GET THE MEANY BURGER! An 8 Oz. Beef patty cooked to your preference with American cheese, bacon, more American cheese and more bacon and one more slice of American cheese with lettuce, tomato and onions. Now thats a burger and its sooooo good. The place has a very rustic setting and is very relaxed. Highly recommended!

2020-10-10Very nice little restaurant/diner about 10-15 minutes from Hawks Nest. They have everything from shrimp poppers to perogies, but come here for the burgers which are incredible. Choice of fries too; wavey, steak and sweet potato.Reasonable prices and food was quick!

2019-05-05Was passing thru and decided to give it shot, glad I did. Food was delicious and the service was great. Relaxing atmosphere. I had the sausage breakfast bowl and GF had pepper jack omelette. Never had a disappointing bite. Mens bathroom decor was a little questionable; the stickers reminded me of a kids room.

2018-06-27Ok went a lil crazy today with a half of two different meany burgers, yes theyre called meany burgers lol. 4 cheeses, onion, tomato, bacon. Was delicious. I tried one regular and one veggie burger. Great taste. Fries a lil well done but that happens. If I werent in a hurry Id have them redone. The desserts in here look so good and theyre homemade but cant eat all that sugar! Oh, watch your step at the door, I tripped and apparently many others do every day too.
