Art Bar in other cities:
I used to love this place, but now the people who serve are terrible; I refused to pay a tip already included in my bill, which I disagreed with because of the behavior of the waitress named Camila, who was rude and made me feel uncomfortable in every interaction. When I asked for that, the manager suggested giving the tip back to me because I would need it for my bus. They are the rudest, most impolite, and unfriendly people I have ever met.The music and atmosphere are excellent; I still love the place, but not the people who work there.
The waiters were charming and in general we enjoyed our time there. Unfortunately when we were about to leave the the lady bartender behind the bar was very abrasive(!!!!!!!), aggressive and rude. Screamed the entire time we were there and decided to answer our question with sarcasm and accusations. Very unfortunate ending to our night, wont return there.
So small. like a hallway jam packed with people you have to shove past to get anywhere. only to find a dimly lit weirdly decorated little exposed brick den at the back. meh drinks. bad loud music. dirty. boring crowd of old millenial types. not a cool place, very walk in walk out.
The food was amazing but the staff my party encountered was very unpleasant. The woman behind the bar was engaging and friendly to other patrons in the establishment but was very short and nasty towards my friends and I. I would recommend this place but after my recent experience not so much
I had the best time here. It was our last night in the city and not only did Alexis (manager) make sure we had a nice table but also the best experience. If you dig the speakeasy meets art vibes over some martinis go to this place & you wont be disappointed!!Cant wait to be back again soon!!! Xo
Happy hour is unbeatable. Every day from 4-7pm with $5 well drinks, wine, and beer. Im in.The place was very busy but has the vibe of a chill local hang. You could easily sit here for a few hours.Even when they were busy, the waiter came over a few times to check on us. Appreciate the service!
One of our favorite bars in NYC - decent beer list, stiff pours, and a good mixed crowd and fun vibe. Service can be a bit slow, but everyone is pretty nice and we’ll-intended so it’s easily forgiven. The back seating area is pretty cool with some great art, worth checking out. Also appreciate the outdoor seating with heaters
It was cold night when my friends and I went. Small cozy place. The waitress was beautiful and sweet. Some guy kept on talking to her at the bat either employee which caused her to make us and her other customers wait for drinks. The bartender was too bust talking so some Asian guy at the bar and didnt pay attention or offer to check on the tables while the waitress was busy.
The drinks were watered down and flavorless, the music was too loud to be able to talk and socialize. We even asked to lower the volume a bit so we can hear each other talking, but got a quick dismissive cant do. I dont understand why I have to yell over the music to be able to have a conversation: this is a bar, not a night club. One extra star for the cute interior. Will not be coming back!
Tl;dr: (1) The couches in the back are the place to go. (2) check out the martini listI often find myself really liking 1 or 2 drinks on a cocktail menu, but there were at least 4-5 that stuck out to me as something I would like. The couple I tried were tasty, they even threw on a game I was hoping to catch the end of, and they have couches in the back (gotta love a place with couches). The couches can fit larger groups (especially if you grab multiple since theyre so close together), but they seemed hard to get hold of, and theres not really any standing room; so, if you head there with a group, just know youre gambling a little. It was just a couple of us, so we were able to grab a couple seats at the bar for a while and then snag a couch towards the end of the night. The food was actually better than expected too -- nothing phenomenal, but definitely good enough to stay there an eat instead of our original plan to go elsewhere for food. The food also came really, really quickly. The martini list had great looking drinks on it and were fairly cheap. Also, we didnt try them out this time, but they had jello shots in syringes, which seem a bit silly but fun.
This place is gross. They keep the lights dim for a reason. Also they are lazy as hell and refuse to split checks. I even asked ahead of time, then when it came time to pay refused to split the check. With so many great bars in this area I wouldnt waste my time at a place with below average food, ugly art, and poor service.
Discovered this place on my most recent trip to Manhattan and spent two of my four nights here. On the first night my friend and I sat in the bar area and on the second night I settled, alone, cozily into a couch in the back, nursing a few beers and snacking on some potato skins for hours while I read my book and listened to the good playlist. It reminds me of the homey bars I frequented in Galway (Blue Note), where I could easily find a quiet corner to keep my own company but still feel a part of a social environment. These types of places are so lacking and precious compared to the typical American bar thats all noise and uncomfortable seating (if there is seating at all). I cant wait for another excuse to come to the city and return. Not too expensive and the kitchen is open late, too!
We had the best experience at Art Bar! Delicious food, amazing drinks. And the staff, Alexis, and Aaron as bartender made us feel like we were old friends! Such a cozy atmosphere, with the fireplace in the back and following all protocols to keep everyone safe! Well done Art Bar!
Visited on Saturday. The cocktails seemed great, although I was not able to try more of their menu because the waitress forgot to bring us our second order when we asked for water. We were under a time constraint. Overall, it seems bars/restaurants right now are struggling with not having enough staff and this isnt their fault. I was definitely disappointed and am wondering if this was done in order to get us to leave so they could seat a larger party. : ( Larger parties were getting their drinks faster and had more attention at this bar. If that is the case, that is subpar service, hands down.
Aaron was the worst bartender ever! He was clearly drunk and he was so rude after he was so drunk and it was honestly disgusting. He literally yelled at us and charged us for 10 drinks when we’re literally 7 people and it was so rude. He then proceeded to yell at us and my friend because we were trying to understand why we were being charged so much and he said he was drunk and didn’t care it was horrible, honestly disgusting. Will never come here again.
You can never go wrong with an Art Bar happy hour! Great drinks & food. Try the brie melt baguette, its delicious! Very friendly bartenders. The front area has a more bar feel and the back hidden speakeasy area is more relaxing and more of a lounge with pretty cool art work.Go early as it gets really packed. Love this spot!
I recently decided to meet my cousin here to grab a drink and Im happy to be able to try a few new bars in the area. The bar is pretty small and it does tend to get pretty crowded. We were seated at the bar so I am not to sure how table service is as I didnt see many employees waiting tables.I had a margarita which was on happy hour that winded up being $4 which was pretty good. I decided to order the grilled chicken sandwich with honey mustard. I was a bit hesitant as I didnt see too many people eating nor was I able to find many pics of the food. Surprisingly the sandwich was actually really good I wished it was a bit bigger. The meal was less than $10. I think pricing is great especially for a bar in this area, if you are able to pass by during happy hour you can grab a meal and a drink for less than $15!
Liked the place, chill vibes, good drinksAccessibility 2 stars:- the outdoor seating on the side walk was at an angle- 1 small step to get into the bar- enough space between tables and bar that you could get a wheelchair by but people would need to move their bar seats out of the way, tight squeeze- back area has some very nice seating, only got a quick look at it but i think some of it was raised/on a platform- bathroom (theres two I only used one of them) isnt accessible at all, too small to fit a wheelchair and the toilet is placed facing the side of the sink so there is very little leg room/space to get onto the toilet, no grab bars- I didnt ask about any accessibility options that they have (like a temporary ramp) so idk about that
Delicious burgers with great sweet potato fries. I like the relaxed atmosphere featuring roomy bar seating and generously sized clamshell seating in the front room. The back room has a throwback feel with comfortable couches and low level seating. The food and drinks were priced right for portions. My server was knowledgeable about featured drinks and made great recommendations. I will return soon!
Worst experience in my life. When we first arrived the host/bartender told us they were full when we asked what was there % she couldnt answer us. After that 2 white skinned people came and she let them in to sit. This place is not lgbtq nor black friendly but they had a flag inside. Which is just for show. We had to sit in the cold and wasnt checked on. The drinks wasnt up to it standards. It was so disappointing for my first time going. I wish I never went there. FYI you should change your host/bartender to a more Hispanic or black friendly person. I dont recommend Noone to this place.
I’ve been coming here for about 8/9 years! I love the vibe of this place and the cute back area seating. The fire place and wall art add its own unique touch! The food has always hit the spot as well! The servers and busboys are very sweet and attentive always! However the Bartender’s have a chip on their shoulders. They are super nice to their regulars but everyone else they are a bit rude and seemed annoyed. I’ll never understand when you work for tips you act this way. I will always come back to this place but I’ll definitely always sit with a waitress;) for all new comers I recommend just walking all the way past the bar and find a table in the back.
Very nice atmosphere for a first time link for drinks. The bar staff are friendly and accommodating. The lounge is excellent for conversation with nice background music playing the whole time. The drinks were mixed well. ALL are welcome at the Art Bar lol. Didn’t try the food but the place gets a 5 off the service, pricing, and pleasant environment 👌🏿
The front bar comes off as a pretty generic bar, but the back room is where the magic is. Dark and cozy, there are plenty of sofas to choose from to sidle up to your sweetie or have a heart to heart with your friends. Maybe not the best place for a first date since the music is a bit loud. Good happy hour. Loved this place!
Another date spot. Front looks like a dimly lit 70s diner but when you go past the curtains it’s a more intimate setting. It can get crowded pretty quickly. The couches are vintage and some can be raggedy but the little fireplace and the art make up for it. The drinks are strong and delicious. I love that their happy hour lasts until 10pm.
Looks unappealing from outside but give it a chance and itll make you love it. Really nice atmosphere inside with good music and a decent bar. Beer on tap is a little restricted but they have bottles and cans. Didnt eat but the menu is what youd expect wiry burgers, dogs and other pub grub. Will definitely return if Im in the area.
If youre looking for a low-light, artsy, chill yet lively, conversational space to drink and catch up with your friends, head to the lounge at the back of the bar. There is enough seating to feel cozy but not crowded. Music is present but not too loud to overpower the conversations youre having with your friends. Music ranges from pop and hip-hop to 80s throwback depending on the time and vibe. Art Bar is a great go-to bar as the first of many stops to your night, and if it ends up being your only stop for the night, no one can blame you.
Art Bar is one of my favorite bars in the city! It has a chill vibe, a good happy hour, and the bartenders have always been really nice to me.The first time I came here I didnt realize that there was a room in the back with cool art and cozy couches, but now that I know that I try to visit earlier in the evening, before it gets crowded, in order to maximize my chances of getting a couch back there. The vibe up front by the bar is still cool, but I just really like the ~aesthetic~ of the back room tbh.If you need something kind of refreshing, try the green tea cocktail. So good!
This used to be my absolute favorite spot in the city until it sort of became more popular than it had room for (hence the minus one star). The first time I was there I didnt even realize that there is a huge back room with lots of comfy couches, a fireplace, and the eponymous art. Their happy hour prices are ridiculously cheap and their food (although definitely bar food) is really cheap and pretty good. Very LGBT-friendly.
One of the best happy hours in the city until 7. Despite the neighborhood preponderance of sleek and soulless restaurants and bars, Art Bar still feels authentic and just divey enough to allow you to feel comfortable drowning your sorrows alone. The back room with couches and coffee tables offers a more private and quiet environment if youre more in the mood for an intimate chat. The food is good too and not overpriced.
This is one of my goto spots whenever Im in the area, and Im always introducing someone new, so I can put them on! With Covid, I believe the lounge room in the back is closed, but the atmosphere is still warm and inviting. This place is best visited during the Fall/Winter months!
Loved the atmosphere! It is more than just the front part of the bar - go in the back with all the couches and darker lighting. Met some friends here for happy hour (daily 4-7p) with half price draft beer, well drinks, wine. I had a special martini (lychee) and I love that it came with an extra half glass of the martini in the shaker so it was like a drink and a half! They also have inexpensive pub food. Can’t wait to go back. Has to be one of the best options in NYC for a cheap night out.
Great happy hour and the burger is incredible. There is never any rush or pushiness here, the service is warm and welcoming and the drinks are strong. Be sure to arrive early to camp out on one of the couches in the lounge. The place is truly versatile, meet in the back with old friends or colleagues or play the barfly and sit at the bar right after walking in.
I love Art Bar. One of my favorites from the city. Its chill, fun, art for sale, its cheap. HH is until 7 or 8 but its great, $4 beers and wine and their martinis are the best with so many options. Tbh the only martinis I like are theirs. It looks fancier than it is in photos haha. Just a great place to hang with friends or with a date in the back.
Art bar is amazing. Its definitely one of my favorite bars in NYC. They have the best happy hour (half price I believe) and the best surprise back room. Its a pretty cool, average bar when you first walk in but make sure you walk all the way through to the back, theres an amazing room with couches and ... art.
Art Bar is completely unremarkable from the outside. Looking at the facade and peering in through the doors, I mistook it for a dive bar until I finally walked in. The front bar area isnt too special, but I was blown away by the backroom. Complete with a fireplace, this room was the definition of cozy and intimate. It was relatively quiet and comfortable the two times Ive been there. It makes for a nice post-Corner Bistro night cap. If youre out early enough, take advantage of their 2-for-1 happy hour special.
I really love Art Bar and would visit frequently after work on Fridays when I worked in the city. I feel it just has a certain charm about it! They always played the best music (and Im sure they still do!), which truly fit the overall vibe of the bar. Since I stumbled upon the Art Bar, Ive always felt it has this uniqueness about it. In fact, I still havent been able to find a bar that I have such strong sentiments about. Ive since moved many miles away out of the general area, and I look back on Art Bar with very fond memories. I hope to visit again on my next trip back!
Fun place that harks back to the Village of some time ago even though few of the patrons do. You can talk here, enjoy drinks at friendly prices and ponder where the art in art bar comes from. Maybe Art was the original owner or maybe art is talked about here. We came here with a group of photographers and had a great time. It is probably better than 3 stars
Dive bar, with decent drinks and typical bar food. We had the nachos, and their jalapeno margarita and chocolate martini (on separate visits), they were all good. I would go back again as it is pretty inexpensive, they also have a back room with more seating. Reminds me of a speakeasy which is fun.
Cool place, a shame the cocktails are terrible. Had to return an old fashioned it was so bad - there was a layer of unmuddled sugar at the bottom - apparently the manager made it and she and the waitress were very rude about my sending it back. If you go just order simple drinks or beers.
Very slow service. Server was rude (did not know prices of items on the menu, wanted us to hurry up after being 20 mins late to take the order). We were a party of 6 and all our cocktails came out awful. When we complained the server said this is not a fancy bar. Please dont expect anything.
Super cool bar with a lounge feel in the back. Everytime I visit, which had been at least five or more times, I feel at any minute Andy Warhol, Keith Haring and/or Jean-Michael Basquiat are going to walk in at any minute! Make sure to come during happy hour from 4pm till 7pm. A dollar off all draft beers!
My girlfriend and I really liked this place. It is very unique and cozy but thanks to the bartender we will not be coming back. We ordered wine -we didnt tip her right away at the front because we were going to keep ordering later- and sat on the back couches. We were cuddling and ocassionally kissing but that was it. At some point she came in yelling at a group of people who had reserved the back area because they were seating all over the place instead of their assigned seats. We thought it was a little rude but kept on talking. But then she turns to us and yells, guys, keep it pg13, there is other people here and you are being recorded by the camera of the place. Lets not make other people uncomfortable. We were shocked, not only because there was no need for her to be condescending, but also because she embarrassed us in front of everybody. Dont take me wrong, I get it if you want to have a certain vibe as a bar, and I respect it if someone felt uncomfortable with two women being affective to each other, even though this is NYC. But she didnt have to make such a scene when we were not even making out. She could have been more professional about it, Keep it pg13? In a bar where everyone is 21+ and able to mind their own bussiness? Really? That was uncalled for. My girlfriend and I felt very uncomfortable and left right after. I couldnt believe this was because she thought we were not going to tip her, since she was being rude to other people as well. They should really consider on firing her.
I used to frequent this bar a lot, would bring friends from out of town and st one point it was my favorite place in the village. Unfortunately last time will most likely have been the last time me, or my sister go there. From the getgo the waitress was inspecting my ID and asking me where the dob on it was, not that difficult. It’s a regular state ID, not a passport or anything. That wasn’t that big of an issue, the real kicker was when we asked for the receipt there was an automatic tip added which was about 19%!!! I was shocked, never have i had anyone add their own tip before, especially for a party of two. I’m not sure if this is some form of new procedure or not, but it shouldn’t be tolerated and is almost discriminating. My sister is a waitress too and has never seen, nor done that before. You guys lost a loyal customer, just saying! Plenty of great spots in Brooklyn.
I used to work near this place, and theres not much else in the area that serves as a casual, just-slightly-better-than dive option. Drinks are meh, as is the beer selection, but it can have a fun crowd and the fireplace is great in the winter. Had some great times in big front booths as well.
Cute place in the west village. I came here on a second date and sat towards the front of the bar. I’d recommend going towards the back and sitting in the dim-lit room with couches since the front was a bit loud for having conversations. I got a cosmo and it was great!
I am a native New Yorker and will keep to the directness of how we are known to be :)Food: Good. Have the burger.Drinks: Great. I recommend going during their Happy Hour its the cheapest game in town.Space: Art lines all of the walls of this modern bar/lounge. The main bar is is always crowded during Happy Hour, but the back room offers a reprieve from the mad rush to the bar.Scene: Happy Hour. Afterwork. Date night. Singles scene.Crowd: 20-40s Afterwork crowd. Pick-up scene. Single scene.Service: Good considering its crowded.
Really cool spot with a nice backroom for bigger parties. Really like the art here as well - my favorite piece has to be the last supper remixed with famous icons from the 20th century. Food is pretty good - I recommend the Santa Fe wrap. Also had calamari, which was better than average, but nothing out of this world. Would go here again
Despite a full crowd, I have never had a problem securing a seat for myself and my party. On top of that, Ive never had to wait for more than a few minutes to be served, and then to be served thereafter. The drinks are amazingly strong for what you pay and the noise level is just right. A win all around.
Art Bar is fun for a big group. There are not a ton of places Ive found in this area that are super conducive to large groups, but the back room at Art Bar is perfect and fun. Drinks are reasonable and cocktails are interesting and creative, but it sometimes gets super loud and crowded.
Great venue. It felt like the staff were playing a prank on the clientele where they were as impatient and rude as possible without the customers leaving. This ruse was successful for a solid 45 minutes before I caught on to the silly game they were playing! Good drinks, good couches, good john, awful service.
Boyfriend ordered a burger, which turned out amazing. Chicken sandwich on the other hand was not that great. Cheap coctails but great in taste. Cozy place. There are two tvs but you cant see them from every sit. The bar tender was very professional and kind. Will come again.
Giving this place one star only because zero isn’t an option. After being seated for 30 min and nobody taking our order we finally ordered some drinks at the bar- the waiter finally came and then we told him we had drinks underway at the bar because nobody took our order. The waiter absolutely freaked out at us and told us we were rude, etc. He had so much attitude and all he had to do was take our order. Instead of then taking our food order he walked away.
A tale of two bars...the front room is cramped and uncomfortable unless you have a booth, there arent many. The back room is cozy with a fireplace as long as its not too packed it can feel warm and intimate. Great place if youre in the nabe for their 2 for 1 happy hour deal.
Walk into a dimly lit art deco dive bar complete with work half round booths. Venture deeper, past the curtain, and youll discover a lounge room with people curled up in leather chairs around shared bites. Happy hour 4-7pm every day means half price draft beer and house wine.
Heres what you need to know:- The real party is in the back. Like seriously, walk all the way through the bar, past the bathrooms and through the velvet curtain to the separate seating area- Back there youll find big comfy couches, a fireplace, and exposed brick walls covered in a rotating selection of artwork and one classic piece thats always there; a 80s re-interpretation of The Last Supper featuring iconic artists of the time- Solid happy hour everyday from 4-7pm, good late night snacks, and a joyous experience end to end
Love the couches in the back. The food is cheap in pricey, but rich in flavor! You cant beat a tasty burger with fries for $7! The wait staff can be a little absent minded and sometimes rush while taking orders, so theyll have to double back to ask you what your order way again.
My friends and I popped in to grab a drink but it was absolutely packed, and it was before 8pm! I was shocked. We did, however, get to see the possible Keith Haring up front near the door.Lots of art all over the place - duh - and a really cool vibe, nice and dark but as I said, PACKED!!
So Iam not that guy that likes to go on google to write a negative review especially about bars but last night was the most disrespectful experiences Ive had at art bar. Our server last night was so rude and condescending. For starters as we walked to the back of the bar she rudely pushed me and my friend out the way. It all started with my friend (A female) asking for a glass of water when the server took our drink order. Upon dropping the drinks My friend asked nicely can she have some water because shes feeling dehydrated. The server goes on this rant, literally a rant basically talking to my friend as if she asked for anything other then the drink she requested for no reason other than how she was feeling. After my friend ordered some fries she asked if she could have salt and the server than rudely says to all of us Does anyone else want anything else. And I know that sounds like great service but her attitude, tone and just vibe was so nasty and rude that my friends and I just looked at each other in shock. Like what is up with this woman?. I understand how bad it can be working in the service industry but all three of us actually work in the same industry and never seen a server act like that. My friend who she offended could not even eat because of the tension with this girl. So she asked the server if she offended her in any way because that wasnt her intent and the server goes on another attitude rant about having to pour the waters by hand, she doesnt do that, the busser does that. It was just awkward and really rude yet again. We as paying customers should never be subjected to that kind of vibe for no reason other than asking for what we ordered. I come here often but her energy and vibe will make me never come back here again.
I like Art Bar because if you find a seat than its cool, but otherwise its crowded, a bit loud, and apart the fact that its kindof interesting, its not all that fabulous of a location.Even when you do find seats in the back, they are pretty crammed, the tables are small and sometimes awkward.
If you ever want to deal with a bartender whos putting her ego first before the customer you def need to come here. Alexis is the worst bartender in NYC, and I hope she will leave this place soon to bring a new wind to this place. Old, unprofessional bartenders must work in retirement houses and serve juice for older people.

2022-01-17I really enjoyed my time in here with my sister. The vibe was cool. Inside in the back is awesome. It was pretty packed night. Happy hour drinks weren’t too bad. The bartender was really nice. The food was good. Really no complaints. Only thing would be, some of the music didn’t always flow with me.

2022-01-21A nice place to drink a couple of cocktails. Good music and a cool atmosphere. The fries and snacks are also good. Its necessary to show the vaccine record and ID at the entrance. I attended on a Thursday night and It was full, so I had to wait to get a sit, but you can reserve in advance. In the back of the bar are the best seats.

2021-09-04Very cute and friendly dive bar! Outdoor seating available and the happy hour deals are ones that you can’t beat… especially when happy hour is 7 days a week! Aside from happy hour, their prices are very reasonable and the locals/staff are so nice; it creates an amazing atmosphere! I have not tried the food yet, but I will be back!

2022-02-10Great ambiance for a chill hangout. The area is not too big, but cozy for a party of 2-3. The food was not badly priced and mixed drinks were strong enough. I personally did not enjoy the happy hour wine much, but the price made up for it. Would recommend if you are looking for something cute and lowkey.

2022-04-22A popular pit stop for the village locals and visitors alike. Can’t beat their happy hour. Eclectic and vibrant atmosphere. Great drinks and friendly services. They have some good bar foodoptions too. One of my favorite go to spots in west village.

2022-03-20I met some friends at this bar. Its really quite small, with a very narrow space between the booths and the bar. I regularly had to lean out of the way for people moving by, and the booths werent very wide either. They had a reasonable cocktail list, so its not a bad place, but not my first pick.

2022-07-05Cozy bar with lovely staff. Delicious cocktails and snacks. I liked the painting on the wall, pop culture version of the last supper with contemporary artists and actors.
