Went in to look for stickers and ended staying two hours looking through the store. They carry a good variety of journals for art, bullet/organization, travel. I found Fig & Baron, Luechstrum (I know I’m spelling it wrong sorry!), Rhodia, Moleskin and much more. In the back half of the store they have all types and sizes of paper. It’s just amazing beyond words. This place is nothing like a Micheal’s or Paper Source. It’s a whole different level. If you’re in Bk definitely take a look. Site has street side parking only. Entrance and store is wheelchair accessible throughout. Credit, debit, and cash accepted.
Man this is the one stop shop for artists. When Pearl on canal closed I was devastated but this place brings me hope. You can get anything you want or need from spray paint to watercolor and pencils galore. This is my go to art store. If I want pre-stretched canvas Ill go here but I buy my 75 yards of canvas online its cheaper. All in all this art store is the one and only art store that you should be going to.
This was my first visit to this location, and my first in-person since the pandemic began. As befits an employee-owned company, they were taking safety protocols seriously, which is a nice change. In general, these sites are the best-stocked, most pleasing and inspiring stores. Signage is clear, staff is helpful and pleasant.I was sad to lose Pearl Paint, a bastion for many years, but people who worked there were miserable. A&CS is just as impressively stocked, and a much nicer place to visit and shop in.
A comprehensive supply store for both the fine artist and those going for arts and crafts supplies. They have teacher/student discounts, and the staff is always helpful and friendly. Definitely a great place for specialty papers, equipment such as easels, brushes, paints, etc.
I stopped by this morning to get a print framed. Their frame room had abundant options and David patiently showed me a few that could fit my 16 x 20 print, but when I unrolled my print, I realized it had a white border and Id need to cut it - something I wanted to avoid at all costs since Id almost certainly screw it up or at the very least, stress intensely about. They waited for me to call a framer for a solution and then found a (cheaper), larger frame with a mat that complimented my photo well and I could easily slide in.David and Lou were both remarkably patient with me and extremely helpful and I walked out extremely satisfied and grateful for their help. The store is very airy, the door was left open, and there was hand sanitizer at the front so it felt very safe to shop during covid.
After Pearl closed some years back, I was truly bummed. Come to find out, Arts &Craftsman was in my local hood the whole time.I have been going to them for years now. Such a local treasure, and I appreciate the creatives who work there. They are always helpful, and if there is something I am looking for that they don’t carry, on the spot brainstorming sessions occur, and they help me source what I am looking for.
The first time I visited this place, I was blown away about how much supplies they carried. This place is literally drugs for every artists. They have everything from jewelry making kit to calligraphy set and equipments. The store is very big, well organized and the staff is amazing. They’re really good at what they’re doing. Mo is the best, she’s the one who helped me through my search. She was very helpful in terms of knowing which paper I should use for the ink that I was getting. Overall this place is freaking amazing!
This place is absolutely amazing. Theyve more than likely got everything youd ever need for whatever project youre working on.Im not really the most creative/artsy type, but I walked in here to get a frame for a poster and was completely blown away by the size and scope of what they offered. Pretty good prices, friendly staff, quality supplies, nothing to complain about. For me, this is the epitome of a store you can walk into and wonder around for an hour and not get bored. Youll get tons of creative ideas and everything youd need to achieve them is in this store.
Incredible place, so well-stocked, and well-kept. I look forward to popping by whenever I need to frame art (such a wide selection of frames!), pick up tools, greeting cards, or gifts. I discover something new every time — build in time for browsing, this place is huge!
Friendly, knowledgeable staff and one of the last independent art supply stores in NY (RIP New York Central). They have a large, but curated selection and the staff actually use the supplies they sell and can offer personal insight beyond what you get from a label. Ask for Xavier Petromelis, a talented local artist, and Im pretty sure he personally vetted and tested every single one of the products A+C stocks down to the novelty toys at the counter.
Love this supply store. Ive purchased painting and beading supplies, tools, an easel, frames, paper, pens, notebooks and gotten an AMAZING amount of advice from the helpful and knowledgeable staff. Another nice thing is they usually have multiple brands and price points for similar items. So you can try with a couple of student paints and brushes before investing in top of the line, for example. And they are equally knowledgeable AND helpful with both. Great place to shop!
. Really great store. Lots of cool craft supplies. I was expecting it to be more like Michaels but was pleasantly surprised that the selection and quality of products exceeded that of the big box store. They make custom sized canvases which is pretty cool. Will certainly go back next time I am near by.
Absolute best art supply store around. They have the most competitive prices and also offer a discount to students and educators! The staff is *very* knowledgable...you can tell that they are all artists who actually use the products! Artist and Craftsman always has that one weird thing that I need. Dog and kid friendly!
I havent been to this store in 2 years and wow has it changed! Its tripled in size. It has a vast array of art materials. I was looking for hand made paper for collage and I found it.The staff was very helpful. The only drawback is that parking is really tight on this area, but luckily I found a good space on my last two visits. I will definitely return.
Words cannot describe how much I love love love this place. I come here at least once a week. They have almost everything on the market (or at least all the good stuff) for reasonable prices. The store is basically located in a warehouse so you get to do a good amount of browsing of different sections. My favorite part is that they actually carry good brands of paints! I will always support Artist & Craftsman supply.
I kind of want to live in here. Great selection and prices for any art needs. Pleasant employees who arent in your face, but there if you need them. Dangerous place to go if you have time to kill and notions of starting new art hobbies (its very tempting to leave with a marble slab and some chisels).
It was my first time there. I liked the place BUT they arent fully stocked with everything. I went there to get small and medium blending stumps and I was able to get a few packs but they where the last ones. Good thing I dident need more. To know that there is a geunine art community in that part of Brooklyn was very exciting (via there bulletin board near the entrance) so I will go back I just hope they will be better stocked. I still give them 4 stars because of the friendly service and overall experience.
Such a great spot with a huge selection. Been going here for a couple years and its much better than Blick or Davinci. They have better prices and a better selection. The staff is really helpful and keep you up to date on when they will restock. They also have a great kids arts and crafts section. Would recommend to professionals, beginners, and families.
I found the place charming with so many little interesting things as well as a vast array of paint mediums and needs for artists and artisans alike. They have some great gimmick socks and a lovely collection of blank cards, and things for children and hobbyists. The floors are uneven which can be annoying, especially for someone like me who has terrible balance. Thats the only reason for four stars.A great find and great fun wandering around. My first time there and I made a few purchases.
I LOVE doing my art supply shopping here. Nice large selection -- paper, pads, pencils, markers, embroidery, model kit supplies, frames, cork boards, etc. -- and for my needs, Ive been able to find almost everything I need here for my art classes except electric sharpeners. The staff is friendly, you can always find someone willing to help you and when I had to return two color pencils and had ripped up my receipt (I already own the two colors) they were nice enough to grant me my wish. I look for any excuse to come here and browse/shop.
Most likely youll find what you are looking for in your visit to Artist & Craftsman, and their prices are alright. As for the staff, thats a different story. I had a bad and rude experience with one of the employees. I didnt have the teacher id with me so it would have been okay not receiving a discount. But instead, the situation with the employee (dark blonde hair/glasses) was quite uncomfortable. She applied the discount while asking questions such as they dont give you an ID? Do you leave it at school? ...Dont feel like going back any time soon.
I love this hodge-podge artist supply warehouse. Super helpful staff and a great range of supplies. Great for professionals as well as novices and craft makers. I love coming here with my kids to restock for myself as well as family art projects. Everything is logically grouped and easy to find, but it feels messy, worked in, and familiar.. just like a real studio and not a sterile box.
They had the last box of Caran Dache neocolor i wax pastels in the borough and having it has made my week. I love fancy, waxy crayons with a high pigment load. And when I went back to buy a few more individual crayons to round out the set, the boy behind the counter gave me a perfect little drop spine box to carry them in. I love it so much. And even though I was dressed like a maniac, and I lingered in the store for a hundred years, they let me use their behind-the-counter cutting table to fold my fancy papers before I left.Im going back tomorrow for five more crayons.TLdr, This is my favorite art shop in Brooklyn! Also it is the only place in the whole city with a good selection of Neocolor I wax crayons.
This is by far the best art store in all of new york! they have a 10% student and teacher discount wth ID, and the prices are already a little better than most places. they have a huge venue and a wonderful selection. i can always find a great choice of notebooks, especially leuchtturm1917, and great markers/brush pens like tombow. love this store! all the associates are super kind and helpful too!
12:38:31 PM, 03/04/2020.I used to come here for most of my art supplies because their products and prices are wonderful. Then on a Wednesday noon, I came, for oil paint medium. It was totally not busy, with just few customers in store, no line for checking out, neither. So I stood below the sign please form line here, waiting, only to find our dear Laura was too busy with chatting to pay attention to her customers waiting.Oh, and she forgot to ask me if I were a student or a teacher, which they always do to offer discounts. Rude, racist and unfriendly. Dear Laura, you ruined my day, screw you.
We happened upon this place and are *so* glad that we did. I run a homeschool group, and my homeschooled son has become interested in Visual Arts again. We were able to find so many things for his interests and the staff was extremely helpful and knowledgeable. We so appreciate the Educators/Student discount because we will be back a LOT!! You all are wonderful.
I would give 6 stars if I could. This place blows away other general art and craft supply stores such as Blick and so fourth. Their selection is massive will all the standard art supplies (paint, pastel, sketchpads/etc/, but you will also find everything you need for needle felting, stamp making, stone carving, knitting, looms, and framing. A treasure of Brooklyn. The only thing I have found them lacking in is supplies for making stuffed animals, they dont have filling or eye beads.
Staff was nice but store was incredible hot. I get its the summer and all but my wife and I had to put down our stuff and leave. The worker was very kind and understanding and we felt bad just dumping that stuff in the middle of the store. We just could not be in there anymore. Made for a terrible shopping experience. Just a warning to avoid going in on a hot day!!!
I was looking for a local craft store to buy calligraphy supplies and was very surprised to find such a large store with a wide variety of art supplies in Park Slope. The staff were willing to let us poke around and discover the store on our own with minimal interruption, which I really appreciated. When I did need help choosing pens, they were really helpful. They also sell books, small tchotchke gifts, childrens toys, face masks (hello Halloween!), etc. Its a fun store to poke around in.
Awesome place for quenching the thirst of your inner artist. I was looking for a bigger size sketch book for my portfolio with thick Bristol paper of more than 260gsm and encountered this place through Google search. Some amazing reviews about this place led me to explore it for my needs and from my own experience its no doubt that the place deserves everything to be rated 5 star. As it was my first time in the store and I had to find my sketch book in middle of ocean size art inventory, I approached a staff member who not only helped me find all the supplies I needed but also shared technical nitty gritty of the various options. They are quickly expanding the store quickly to make it a one stop for all your painting and craft needs in true manner.
I honestly have no words for this place. I walk in and I always take a deep breath. Lol. It has an awesome selection of almost everything for an artist, craft lovers and for me...paper lover. Its pretty much paper heaven. I love walking around even when Im there to buy just one thing. Recently started a quilling biz...this is my go to place for specialty paper. And the staff is sweet kind and helpful. Always smiling.
They have probably every brand of art supplies like schminke which is something I dont see in art stores in cali where I used to live, it is a big store you could literally spend at least 3 hours just looking at stuff. The only reason I am giving this rating a 4 stars is how expensive everything was in comparison to what I was use to. Just wanted to buy some medium but could not wrap my mind about spending $11 for a small tin of turpinoid. Still you should go check it out.
One of the more complete and better arts and crafts stores in NYC but still not have the full lineup. They lack crafting foam, body safe mica dyes for silicone cast and epoxie sculpt to name a couple of items that a proper big chain would have. But overall competetive price and selection for NYC.
A giant art supply barn! Ive only been a couple times but they had what I needed: last time it was those big fat chisel tip Sharpies that I needed a red and blue one of. Renovations that are supposed to make the street more pedestrian friendly have been proposed for 4th Ave which this place rubs up against, so that will be a good look if they go through, as of now its still a good street but cars go pretty fast sometimes so watch out!
With Pearl paint relegated to the annals of history this is the arts and crafts warehouse of choice. Paint, canvas, pens, ink, framing, paper, paper, paper only begin to describe it. Parking is a bit of a pain being off 4th ave, but there is usually something available on the weekends. Not far from the Union St R-train stop. This is my go to. Also lots of project stuff for the kids.
An artists/craftspersons wonderland! Cavernous warehouse stuffed with a dizzying selection of hard to find supplies for drawing, painting, sculpture, printing, sewing, knitting, jewelry making, etc. etc. A great resource for childrens projects as well. One note of caution, come with something specific in mind, the assortment of items is mind boggling and its easy to get sidetracked!

2022-06-14One of the most stocked and well maintained art stores in Brooklyn. If youre an artist, you can find pretty much any tool or piece of equipment necessary here, from painting, to drawing to sculpting to supplies for any field of art. This place is a literal warehouse full of anything art-related imaginable. Both my grandmas are professional artists who graduated from art school, and this is their favorite spot to buy supplies. Friendly staff who can point you in any direction for something too. 10/10!

2021-07-18Absolutely my favourite art supply shop in NYC. Blick can go take a nap. Love how knowledgeable and friendly the staff is, how spacious and well-stacked it always is, and the good ventilation! (Doesnt reek of dizzying turpentines and such)Pretty accessible ground floor location as well, on a nice safe street for locking ones bike.

2022-01-25This place is fantastic! Whatever art and craft supplys you need, this is the place to go. Staff are always friendly and helpful.Currently they are low or out of stock on certain supplies, but this is a supply issue and no fault of theirs.

2019-05-29The go-to art supply store in Gowanus, serving artists, artisans, craft aficionados, teachers and students to find everything from paints, brushes, pencils, paper, stretchers, canvas and portfolios. The range of materials goes from easy-to-use to very high-quality, professional-grade. The selection of large-format high-end paper is superb, including Arches & Fabriano. I was surprised to find the Lascaux artists acrylics and the Williamsburg oil paints there, as they are both difficult to find in stores. There is a great selection of stretcher frames, and the canvas to go with it. Also... I love their kid section with all the art and craft kits, there is a lovely variety. And most importantly, the staff is really helpful and knowledgeable.

2018-01-07This warehouse has a very unassuming facade along 4th Avenue, so unassuming that one may not even know that its there. Once you enter inside, it becomes a huge wonderland of art supplies that is an entire block long. Sure it looks and feels like a warehouse because it is, but who cares? This is one-stop shopping for artists of all media. There are art supplies here that I never even heard of. There is also a crafts sections for small children and even some magic tricks. Theres also a large picture frame section for those who want to frame their works of art. I brought my daughter here to search for specific art supplies that she needed. We left the place with everything we came for. Also the prices are very fair and can give Michaels a run for their money. All in all, I highly recommend this place as the go-to store for all your art supplies.

2018-09-01Tucked in and unassuming this is a treasure trove of supplies at great prices. I had to put blinders on to not leave with bags full of high quality supplies. A true craftsmans lair. Huge paint, brush, and canvas options and really the only option in south Brooklyn. Cannot wait to return.
