I asked about the price of a gem and when I was considering purchasing one in my price range the sales associate must have thought I was taking too long to consider. He offered to show me something that might be better for the price range, which I had not said out loud, he showed me to the $10-20 tumbled stones. His tone was beyond condescending. I may not look like the typical person to spend a lot of money someplace but thats no reason to be judgmental or quick to assume.
The quality of these minerals is outstanding, but be prepared for the price! Many of the rocks and minerals found here are comparable to those found in the best museums in the world. There are, however, some inexpensive items... Anyway, even if you do not end up buying anything, the experience of visiting the store and talking to the knowledgable personnel is worth your time.
Beautiful store with wide variety of mineral and creature specimens! Range from around $$- $$$$$$, this is truely a place worth visiting. Staff were friendly too, they answered my questions and let me hold some very precious specimens. I was able to get a pink amethyst piece for $50, which is not bad for a professional store located in an expensive area.
This is the best store ever just went to see these AMAZING STONES! Guys if you see this please go i want to be a geologist if you see is a worker who is a girl tell her that the kid who wants to be a geologist sent you. Ask for Mrs.Ruth she is very nice and helped me learn more facts on the stones best service and a very fun place for your rock collection.
My goodness! This place is heaven for those who enjoy crystals, minerals, precious stones and alike. Gorgeous store! What a great energy field. For my surprise I was able to afford a few gorgeous stone and the crystal bowls for meditation and relaxation. If you are looking for good quality, original stones, plus courteous and knowledgeable staff, here is definitely the place. Ill certainly be back here again soon! Namasté!
Amazing!! Ive passed this place many times and thought it was too expensive because it literally looks like a museum that only sells big display pieces. To my great surprise, they have many affordable pieces and lots of rare crystals, beautiful nn pieces, they also sell smaller crystals for great prices startingnas little as 3 dollars. Its a beautiful location great energy, sales peooe dont harrass you but do let you know that if you need assistance they are there fo assist. They place each crystal purchased in its own separate black velvet pouch and I love the shopping bag as well Black with Gold lettering, this is important doe those purchasing gifts the packaging is just as beautiful as the product. Highly suggested. Will definitely be back.
Easily one of the most satisfying mineral and gem shops I have had the privilege to find and visit. Astro Gallery is curated like a museum, and rightfully so with the quality specimens and sculptures. These are minerals for your eyes to feast, but your hands to fold behind you... or in expressions of awe, against your face should do (probably my default look walking around). I purchased a quality Septarian Heart before leaving, although there was a decent variety of tumbled and small specimens to choose from. The staff was also kind enough to let me take photos, and I regret not taking more.I will plan to visit every time Im in NYC. Theres a glorious dark room straight back, so definitely take a city break to bask in the gemmy glow.
Incredible store full of one of a kind items. Staff is very friendly and are passionate about these amazing gems and other specimens. Robert was particularly friendly and helpful and helped me pick out a great piece of opal! I will be recommending this store to anyone going to the city now as a great stop to see incredible gems, fossils, coral, and much more.
Dennis is a Exploiter of Small Miners from all over the world.First of All, Dennis, the owner is a bad person, liar, and does NOT pay for the Crystals he sells. His store is built from Exploiting small Miners from all over the world. At first he seems nice till you trust him, then he makes a huge order and vanishes. If you have a ethics, please go somewhere else.
Awesome mineral, gem and fossil store!! As an amateur rockhound, I revelled in all the minerals I had not yet met. So much variety in specimens, products and price points!! Even if you are not into rocks, it is a great stop to see natural beauties from all over the world!
I went in the store more as a tourist. I could not afford the beautiful things inside. That however did not stop me from taking a million pictures. And the staff was kind about that. They didnt hassle me or make me feel uncomfortable that I wasnt a true customer. There was some very unique things inside this store. It almost resembled a museum. Definitely worth going inside and taking a peek. And if you can afford something even better! 🥰
I absolutely love this gem in midtown. Whenever I am in the area I stop by to see the new inventory. From dinosaur bones, to bear skeletons, to preserved specimen to the most beautiful gems on the planet, this gallery is quite breathtaking. You can pick your own rough gems and have them set into jewelery, or pick from the various beautiful premade jewelery. Make sure you stroll through the back room with the rarest and most beautiful gems on display!
What a marvelous gem store! We stopped by one rainy afternoon on a whim and were completely blown away. Its inventory of crystals is stunning, and one can spend hours perusing the displays and shelves. All the salespeople there were friendly and welcoming, but as complete novices, our salesperson Ruth was especially kind, patient, and extremely generous with her time. We’ve spent two fruitful afternoons with her and learned so much already. We will definitely be going back!
This fun store is great for a free trip for the kids to see minerals, geodes, fossil and mammalian skeletons. More of a science trip than a shopping trip, kids will love this. In some ways this is better than the tired exhibits at the American Museum of Natural History. The staff are friendly, knowledgeable and take the time to interest the kids. This is what the museum should be like.
The store itself has a wonderful atmosphere. One of the employees, Robert was extremely helpful, and a wonderful conversationalist. He helped me and my girlfriend pick out stones for our anniversary. He even showed us his personal collection of stones that he carries with him.We will definitely return!
Gorgeous shop, one of my favorite places. They have less expensive gifts in the tumbler stones section, and they have something good at pretty much every price level, including some extremely awesome rare gems in the back. One day maybe I’ll have a house where I can display specimens like they have back there :)
This palacial expanse of unadulterated crystal bliss has everything you never knew you needed in crystalline brilliance! F@#& I really love this place. My first time (and second) in their back room literally made me weep tears of joy. Cute spot for any couple or small geoup of friends.
Quite amazing store! The prices are painfully high as others have commented, but the selection of specimens is impressing. I recently visited the store with the family and stated bluntly that this is beyond my budget. Nevertheless, we felt very welcome and were encouraged to look around and take pictures. In the end we left the store with a few samples from their budget-selection and a very happy son.All in all, I certainly recommend a visit to this store :)
Great Rock shop for new buyers with a huge spending limit. Nothing too rare on the shelves and some specimens were cool, but they seem to care more about size than beauty in my opinion. I wanted to buy something here but could not justify any of the prices. If youre an avid collector who visits shows this is just like another museum where you wont buy. There is definitely something to be said from buying from a trustworthy source, so I would say you can buy here with confidence. They had some pretty jewelry too and those prices were not bad. Definitely a must see if youre into gems or mineral collection. Id give more stars but the prices were painfully steep.
I have shopped here many times in the past and have spent quite a deal of money. Anybody that has ever been here knows that the price tags here a very high! That being said, the product in the store is simply beautiful and breathtaking. As I said before, in my previous times in the store, I went there and spent a great deal of money on their merchandise. However, I have noticed in the past that the sales woman is very abrasive and I just laughed it off and humored her. When you were spending that kind of money in the store filled with healing crystals you would think the person selling it to you would have good energy, not the case here. You go in there and she shares personal stories that are totally inappropriate, makes fun of other customers and really just cares about making a sale. Not to mention they brag about the discount they have today which is every day LOL and how is it possible to take thousands of dollars off of a price of a crystal unless you marked it up drastically to begin with? So I went in for something small, I even brought friends! She saw me and gravitated instantly. She automatically showed me the most expensive things in the store even though I was not interested. When I looked at something small she told me it was ugly don’t look at that. Again telling me inappropriate stories in front of my friends that were disgusted by hearing them. Finally when I was trying to make my purchase which was much smaller than usual that is when I overheard the male manager. He said “ hey.... you got him? He going to buy it?” She said “no, he has financial problems now.” So, on top of being bombarded while shopping, embarrassed in front of my friends because of the gross stories and being pushed into buying something that I don’t want..... now the manager is trying to hustle me too. Like I mentioned before in such a beautiful store with crystals that are supposed to make you feel better and heal your soul you have toxic energy walking around basically trying to sell you products for thousands of dollars and justify it by saying, “well, that’s the before discount price!” To be honest I don’t even want to go in there anymore and I rather shop off of a website. My friends describe her as horrid and Unprofessional. They see everybody as a price tag and when I told them I didn’t have the money she suggested, that’s what credit cards are for! Also, based on information shared by employees, i would be uncomfortable walking around in that store if I was a person of color. Just a heads up
I am extremely shocked by the way you seem to make fun of the litigation that has been going on for the past three months.I havent received my order since December, and you refuse to reimburse me. I would like to remind everyone who will read my article that reimbursement (regardless of the country from which you buy) is an international rule that the seller must respect.Given the high number of Internet users who are in the same situation as me, I invite as many people as possible to write to the Federal Trade Commission, the European Consumer Center or any other association linked to national consumer protection organizations.Once again, your practices are shameful and customer service is deplorable. You block calls, and deliberately refuse to answer our emails or calls. You sell minerals at extremely high cost, be worthy of the products you claim to be able to deliver.I wish you a good day, and may this message be passed on to your owner who does not wish to answer my requests. Do you know? The famous phone call where you shouted and hung up, it does a great job for a store of your prestige.Yanis
I purchased an amethyst geode sphere from their website and was completely blown away by their knowledge, friendliness, professionalism and promptness in assisting me with my purchase. The sphere was packaged incredibly well and shipped quickly. Great job and you now have a life-long customer!
This gallery is an education and a museum of sorts that rival the American Museum of Natural Historys tired mineral and gem collections. Well lit, with staff clearly trained and enjoying their jobs in educating the public this is a great place to take kids for free for a science lesson they will surely love. The geodes and colections are beautiful. It is impossible to think you could leave here unimpressed
I found this gem of a place just walking down the street today and the owner(I believe) was very nice and very knowledgeable, he even surprised me and my friend with a small gift at the end. It made our day. I fell in love with the big, gorgeous specimens they had and it literally felt like I was in a museum. I highly recommend anyone to check out this place. Will definitely visit again for my next crystal purchase.
First things first: youve gotta be LOADED to really shop here. The items on display here unique and precious and, if youre a fossil or gem collector, invaluable. So its pretty much a little museum where the displays are for sale. And do they have displays! 450 million years old trilobite fossil beds, Iridium soil deposits from the impact that killed the dinosaurs, amethyst geodes larger than your head; I once even saw a femur of a T-Rex (price not listed). A very cool place to visit and do some window shopping.
My brother brought me to the gallery to look at some gems and crystals that he absolutely adored, from visiting weeks prior. I believe the store managers name was Richard. He was absolutely more than helpful. Any question that we had about what we saw, he eagerly assisted us. The store was closing, and he didnt rush us out, even though all we had to purchase were a few very inexpensive stones. We visited around 4/2/2018, before our trip to Madrid, Spain. He gave us enough knowledge to be able to identify what we wanted while we were in Europe, and that helped us out tremendously.
All the positive things they have with the beautiful products they have, they manage to vanish with no delivery and customer unfriendly behavior. The product, a bowl worth several thousands of dollars, was never delivered. The company is so glittery, one gets blinded for bribe. One year later, dozens of phone calls and emails: not one was responded. Yes they picked up the phone. Promised to find out where the problem was. But nobody called or emailed back one single time, even the CEO #Dennis Tanjeloff. So unfortunately lawyers have to communicate now. Good luck when you buy something here, dont let them send it.
You will get a 5 star experience here. Coming from out of town we decided to stop in and view some crystals and minerals. The storefront is beautiful and very well organized. Once we stepped in the back room where the high quality crystal specimens are. We had a great conversation with a man who works there. He also pointed out some of the newer specimens they have got in recently. If you are a rock hound or just into crystals this place is definitely worth checking out.
Where else can you see a cross section of the crystallization patterns of meteorites! You can hold them, too! And even take something home for any budget! Fantastic gallery! Great people work here, too, and the guy who runs it is very cool. Def a spot to hit when near Bryant Park! They get new specimens in often, so its a regular stop of mine!
Theres a huge selection of precious and semi precious stones and minerals. The first place Ive encountered where fossils were sold as well. Huge isnt exaggerated here as there pieces from all over the world. The prices range from small $3 shards of crystal and nuggets, to geodes worth my annual salary. Overall, it has stuff for everyone.
My son has been into rocks and gems for several years now, this place was awesome! Easily the best rock/gem store that weve been to... They have huge gemstones, small gemstones, fossils, etc. Prices ranged from a few dollars to hundreds of thousands of dollars for huge pieces. They had jewelery, rocks, tables, bowls, tissue holders all made from gemstones. We were in awe. Its a must if you or someone you know is into gems.
Randomly stumbled upon this store and had the pleasure of meeting the one man named Robert. First off to me this place is better then even the natural history museum because I can buy the things I loved, secondly I purchased the best gems of my collection at affordable prices, and thirdly Robert was amazing at assisting us and enjoying browsing through his own stuff as much as we were!! Definitely recommend!!
Amazed to see the criminally overpriced selection offered online. A piece of Cobalto Calcite that I would sell for $300 is priced $4,699.99. And it’s now 15% off! Hilarious. If you bought from this place, get a lawyer. There has to be some kind of law against this kind of markup!?!
If you love crystal anything, check this place out! They have fixtures, table toppers...and tables! Little pieces on trees and jewelry-style crystal accessories. They even have a fine-crystal section with pieces that look like they were frozen half way through there formation process. Prices range from cheap trinket prices to thousands for people-sized collector pieces.
Loved every bit of this store. The quality of geodes and crystal was amazing. So many sizes from a few ounces to hundreds of pounds. They have fossils and petrified bones from many ancient species from water life to land walking dinos. Such a cool cool experience. Nice staff that were completely fine with people just walking through and admiring the beuty of it all.
What an amazing adventure, my young grandson and I had today! We went, by train, into Manhattan, to visit the Astro Gallery of Gems! Both of us love minerals! My grandmothers mineral collection was left to me. My six year old grandson, who already has a passion for minerals, wanted to visit the Astro Gallery. Today, for us, was magical! The people who work there are so helpful! Ruth, who helped us explore, was wonderful!!!
Wonderful selection and amazing collection! Im no expert in rocks or minerals, but it doesnt take a collector to appreciate the rarity and splendor of these gems, precious stones, fossils and jewelry. Spending about an hour in the store with my friend, we were spell-bound with the marvelous displays which gave us a calm feeling just being around such treasures from the earth. It is a rare sight in the city, and a true oasis. Furthermore, the staff are incredibly knowledgable about each of their unique pieces and very approachable and friendly. I recommend stopping by and checking this out the Astro Gallery of Gems!
I love getting loose stones here. The prices are a little higher than you can get online, but nothing beats seeing the good before you buy. They usually have a decent selection of the more common stones like garnets, but they also have a large variety of matched and single stones.
The sales people were colder then the stones. I dont like people following me around when Im shopping. One man pretended to be interested in something just to stand next to me and watch me. A woman sales clerk walked by me and stood standing right behind me the rest of the time I was there. I ended up buying 4 beautiful stones. I had more on my list but because of the energy in the room, Im taking my business elsewhere.
Beautiful pieces on display, totally free to look around and take photos of some one of a kind pieces. Unfortunately, the store associate I worked with had no idea what any of the gems were that I picked out to buy and insisted one of the pieces I picked was a more expensive gem, that it couldnt be what I said it was because it doesnt come in that color. Ive been working with gems and crystals for years, I know precisely what colors the one I picked out comes in and what she was saying was wrong, I believe she was just trying to get me to pay a heftier price. Know what youre buying, take photos of the prices with your phone so you dont get swindled.
I enjoy being left to browse without having to awkwardly disengage from sales pitches. I DONT enjoy being shadowed without a greeting or offer of assistance. My friend even made a purchase and we were continually followed around the store. Dont waste your time or money here (unless youre fair skinned, of course).
After visiting this store today and taking photos for my mother, who was unable to attend my trip to New York City, we were rudely interrupted by an employee who told me in a very abrasive way that we could take pictures of some displays. Not all of them.I walked out with $800 cash that I had set aside for this trip specifically, and spent it elsewhere to purchase an Amethyst that I had come specifically to this store for.Maybe just a reminder not to judge a book by its cover. You lost money and respect here. Not that we think anyone really minds, considering the service we experienced.
Really cool place! Stopped in here just passing by to see what it was and blew 40 minutes of the day! Easy to lose track of time in here. Even though we clearly werent going to purchase anything the sales people where very nice and explained how these are mined. Stop in if youre going by its worth a look around.
Let me first start off with the fact that I am not new there. I am recognizable and I often come in with someone who is into crystals or who does have the money for the kind of stuff they sell. I have even spent money there. But I face racism by the same hosts, and thats when I take a few month break each time.Mind you I am half white half black gentleman, all Jewish. I wear ankle high Aldo shoes and a casual coat brand that you often see Caucasian people in (by an Asian caucasion couple in park slope). I also graduated from a special art HS with a regents diploma and very into business. I go in for inspiration sometimes also. Well dressed, mature attitude. And raised by caucasion people for the most part so I speak like them. The only thing is I am short and slightly tan.Ill just use the last example for your perspective. The last time I was there the racist male host wasnt there but the woman was. (Like I said I am not new there, and Ive seen her there time before. She is memorable because she was racist each time.) I go in. Some white people, maybe tourists come in after me. We are all wearing the similar coat. The high ticket items are too expensive for them but she is polite to them. I look at the beauty of crystals and I might get a $30 or $50 peice. I also interact slightly with others around me and make sure to stay in view of the host and guard because of my past experience there.I havent seen that guard before but she eggs him to follow me around and I pretend not to hear. He questions me, and I say the truth about why I am in there. I am not offended by him because he was polite and didnt want to do this. And I am not afraid because I never stole or have a criminal record and I like cameras. I point out how one huge crystal looks like a hand. And he says people come in and point that sort of stuff out often. He is friendly but we awkwardly had nothing else to say each other.By now he can tell I am not a black male who is going to rob them. He assures her, and she tells him to still watch me though because she doesnt trust it. So I didnt buy anything, I left. This is why I dont often. I did have a nice little interaction in the back crystal room with a white woman who they didnt feel they need to follow before I left. She was taking photos (which arent allowed by the way). But we only interacted about a crystal we found mutually intricate.Nobody in the store felt threatened by me. And nobody in the store bothered me except the racist female host who keeps on each time. I am not a kid, I am 23. And well maintained hair-wise and in facial hair.I dont deserve racism and neither do you. Nor should you support it.
The Geodes and fossils were great but there were stones in settings that were very likely grown in laboratory conditions - I was told I could not take a video and my wife overheard one staffer tell another to watch me. Felt like a common criminal. We have a gem export license from the Gem authority in Columbia, Sri Lanka and can pretty much see the stones coming out of Chinese labs. Yes they have the same chemical composition and the same refractive index but the origin is not the same.
Prejudice and pompous... Two words to describe the associates at this business. Went inside to get a stone appraised, the customer service woman walked away from me twice and acted like she didnt want anything to do with me. One of the worst experiences Ive ever had in New York City.

2021-11-23Ive actually purchased from this gallery online many times, so I was thrilled to bump into it by chance and see everything they had out on display. Gems, natural history, meteorites, beautiful crystal displays- pretty much anything a lover of nature or science would appreciate for beauty and character.

2021-08-07Awesome store filled with cool rocks, gems, and fossils! It’s almost like being in a rock museum. They have so many cool things to look at and they don’t mind you just walking around and looking. Definitely a fun place to stop by and you could get some cool home decor here.

2022-02-22Beautiful store, many of the specimens were very high quality and larger than I generally tend to see. While there the staff is complaining about how many people were looking and not buying. I found the prices were about six times higher than I usually pay. I go to rock and mineral shows where you have amazing variety lots of competition and prices are good. Specifically I looked at their dragon eggs I usually pay about $100 for a 8 in by 5 in nice dragon egg, the same size there was $600-700. Again, they did have larger specimens that Im used to seeing for sale so cannot really compare prices on those

2021-08-04Lots of cool and unique gems and materials at this store! There are a ton of lower priced smaller items and its fun to just look around through all the large pieces. Were happy with our petrified wood!

2022-04-07This is my absolute favorite spot in the city. They have fossils, preserved species, rare gems, corals and precious stones! It’s right near Bryant Park if you want to take a walk through after lunch or before a Broadway show and see incredible specimens and species from in some cases millions of years ago. The manager and store employees are incredibly passionate and if you show that passion will engage in stories about the pieces and possibly even take a few out of the case to explore more closely! Highly recommend. A museum without a ticket and honestly more interesting and rare finds!

2022-03-26Really unique and interesting store with gems and minerals that range from a few dollars to tens of thousands (and probably more!). PJ helped us around the store and was so nice and knowledgeable about everything. The store also has cool items like pieces of meteorite, fossils, shells, and fine jewelry. Highly recommend!

2021-10-18Very cool! Whether youre looking to window shop or not.. just amazing.
