Amazing quality and insane quantity of food!!! My girlfriend and I love coming here because the food is so fresh, tasty, and fun. The meats & sauces taste terrific and the service is friendly & accomodating. There is so much food that comes with a single meal order, so we never finish, but are super happy to have leftovers the next day!
We love the food and have been regular customers since before they moved to the new, larger location. I don’t know if they are growing too quickly or if something has changed in management (don’t think this is the case) but the combination of price increases and discourteous front counter/phone staff (wait staff are always good) are very disappointing.Another peeve is the frequent errors with take out orders. They seem to be improving on this but it isn’t uncommon for an order to be incomplete or wrong in some other way.I hope when the revocations are complete they will refocus, the food is too good to have to find another Greek place.
Not overly impressed at all. First a shredded salad which was more like taco shredded ( very fine) and the salt content of their food is crazy! Asked for grilled chicken and got tough cubed chicken they probably use for chicken souvlaki… Hot over the Greek Salad… made everything wilt .. what a waste of 40$ . First time there since they moved , last time . What a disappointment! A shame Greek Village closed so much better !
We came in on Friday night around 7:15. Got a table, sat down for about 25 mins. Not one person came over and said hello. We couldn’t even get water. Horrible service. The biggest shame is the food is delicious. Service needs big improvement. Your better off ordering it to go.
Need to change my review! We ordered over $70 worth of food on Uber eats. Including hummus and extra pita. I called to let them know they did not put a single piece of pita in our bag. They automatically said we will refund you for the extra pita but nothing more. I said how do you eat hummus without pita?So rude. Then they called back to see where we were at with the pita situation. Finding a new place
Much better location than previous. More room to eat comfortably. Hot appetizer was good. Nice variety to sample. All meals came with soup or salad & potatoes or rice. Taverna burger was huge and had lots of flavor, especially spicy feta sauce. Had the gyro sandwich - basic - but very salty. Meat was a little dry, sliced too thin, yogurt helped a bit but it didnt have some thicker pieces which would have retained some moisture. Service was on point - fast, friendly and checked in several times - which pushed this to 4 stars. Definitely would recommend a lighter touch with the salt in all the food - its on the table for those who want more of it. Would come back to try other dishes.
Meat in the Chicken souvlaki and lamb gyro were very dry. Ordered two different types of souvlaki but could not see a difference. Spinach pie was salty and phyllo was soggy. Falafel dry as well and they forgot tahini sauce.Salad was decent but overall, very sub-par food. Paid $200. for very disappointing meal.
Very disappointed with my take out order. I spent $44.00 for a hamburger and Falafel Platter that was a really disappointing. The hamburger was prepared as if it was a Falafel and the Falafel was given to me in a tin container with only the Falafel rounds. There was no lettuce, Tomato onions and above all no Tahini sauce. I let go of the fact that I paid for a platter and what I received was a Falafel put in 2 separate containers but was offended that after paying $20..00 dollars for a Falafel Platter (we are talking chick peas people) I was not given Tahini sauce and was told that I would have to pay for it cause it does not come with the Falafel. Being a New Yorker, I have enjoyed Falafels all my life and it is un heard of to eat one without Tahini sauce. Will never bring my money to this establishment again. And everything was overloaded with garlic.
I ordered the lamb kabob and it was so hard I had to return it. I was with company and did not realize they still charged me for it. The next day I called and they refused to refund me for the returned dinner saying they have me a dessert on the house in stead. So I basically paid $28 for a free piece of cake on the house. DONT GO THERE.
Wow. My family has been coming here for 15 years and this is our last time coming. Terrible service, waitress was extremely rude and our order was over an hour late so we got it TO-GO. She didn’t even apologize or offer any type of discounts. We will be contacting the owner, John.
Somewhat of a long wait but not unexpected on a Saturday evening, and well worth it. Food was fresh, flavorful, and rich, nicely presented, and portions were generous. In addition to a couple of fish dishes we had a lamb kabob and meat stuffed peppers. We also had a delicious appetizer of haloumi-stuffed red peppers. And we enjoyed a bottle of the house red wine, a dry Greek wine. Very good. Staff was also great. Helpful, available, and friendly. Our third time here. Recommended.
When in Rome, we Greece, or wishing you were in Greece for a terrific lunch, Stop at the Athenian Greek Taverna...so much good, so fresh, healthy and delicious! The service is prompt, the restaurant is clean and you will leave full! I must try the desserts one day, they look delicious, but way too full by then to enjoy! Stop by...soon!
I went with my family to celebrate my son’s birthday. We have been going to this place over 20 years, when it was a much smaller, much more quaint, friendly atmosphere. In tens of the food, the rest of my family felt their dish was good, except for my wife who found it overly salty. I had the hot appetizer as a meal and was very disappointed. The spinach pie AND cheese pie were deep fried, which they should never be. The Greek sausage was very salty, and the hummus was dry and not very fresh. In addition, they played only Spanish and Italian music!!! If I am in a Greek restaurant I want Greek music!! That is ridiculous!!
The grilled Octopus is always a must order. It’s always so tender. But if you get the Saganaki as well, try layering some of the melty cheese with a piece of octopus on a soft pita. You will not be disappointed. The crabmeat stuffed Salmon Fillet was deliciously cloaked with their creamy avgolemono sauce. Just thinking about it is making me hungry for more!
Great place! I definitely will be going back. The food, drinks and service was amazing. I went for Valentine’s Day. Everything was phenomenal. The manager/bartender gave us suggestions, recommendations and knows how to make an amazing mojito. I highly recommend athenian taverna.
Enjoyed the huge greek salad with chicken. Tzatziki sauce was excellent. Eggplant dish was seasoned well and a nice plate for lunch. We took notice of the nice interior and weekly specials. Server Sophia was both attentive and constantly scanning our table as this was out first visit.
Absolutely loved the food here. I actually came for the music and after one bite of my food fell in love with the Taverna. Service was great. Loved the menu and the food was superb. They have indoor and outdoor dining...but I think they need to make it more clear as to how you seat and order for outside dining. Other than that, I have no complaints. It was crowded and parking was tight, but I highly recommend this place. Looking forward to my next visit and this time I am putting my diet on hold for the night!
Have to say, I’ve eaten here a multitude of times and the food has always been great. I know every business is short staff, cooks, waiters/waitresses/busboy, etc… However, reading some of the replies the owner is making has really soured me on this restaurant. A tad bit of humility would probably go a long way in their favor. People pay to have service performed in a timely matter, when it’s not done as such, you could try to correct it for next time. Apparently he/she has never heard “the customer is always right”. Sad.
Excellent food in a nicely appointed place, however, the service is off. They do a big take out business, which really slows the kitchen down for diners and there are way too many people waiting to leave with their orders that crowd the dinning area. Also, the wait staff is either too thin or has too many responsibilities other than taking care of patrons, but to be fair that is fairly common these days with the post covid labor issues.
We ate there on 1/9, the tables, utensils, and plates were dirty. Asked for new flatwsre and dishes and cleaned the table. Soups were tasty but salty, diet coke over 3 dollars.. spinach pie was good. Regular gyro was nothing to wright home about same fare as any carnival at a Greek church. Regular greek salad was pre made and I get preping ,but it looked so sad and boring, I didnt eat it. Lack luster atmosphere. We were hoping for more but about 75 dollars later for lunch it wasnt in my opinion worth it. I hope they do better and I wish them good fortune.
Best greek food I have ever had! My husband and I just took his mother here for dinner a few days ago for dinner and all of us could not stop raving about our meals! Everything from the appetizers to the last sip of coffee was perfection. Service was speedy and very friendly, prices were very reasonable, we are already looking forward to going back soon!
I had a disastrous meal here . Although the new location is attractive, the service and food were awful. I ordered the house specialty: Yia Yia’s eggplant. It was a laughably small portion but more importantly, it was cold, bland and inedible. I literally took one bite and left the rest. My dinner was the side of rice and a few bites of a very average Greek side salad. I didn’t bother to ask for another meal as my friend’s kabob was burnt and dry. Our waitress meant well but she couldn’t answer any questions about the menu and actually had to confer with another employee to see if we could get our appetizer of spanakopita split in half, which was super weird. Even weirder , she told us the appetizer could be served on 2 separate plates but then brought it out uncut on a single plate. The restaurant was not at all crowded so I don’t understand what the problem was. I will never return and do not recommend.
We decided to give this place another chance after a bad experience a year or so ago. Calamari was ok(a little oil saturated). The gyros were expensive and were essentially a salad, very little meat and the fries were not cooked.they are very nice people but we will be looking elsewhere.
We have gone to this restaurant a few times food was great, before Covid. Tonight we wanted Greek food so we got here at 5:30 and we got our soda and placed our order, well we sat for 40 minutes waiting The octopus taste like rubber and didn’t look like octopus!!! and was horrible I don’t know what it was I returned it. Our salad was nasty, lamb was raw the chicken was burnt . What a disappointment I will never return here nor refer anyone nothing like leaving hungry!!!!!! And paying for a nasty meal if you want to call that a meal.
This was the 3rd try. I kept thinking, the reviews are great maybe it was an off night...but after 3 attempts I have to say...the food is just not good. Even the basic gyro is mediocre at best. The soups are terrible, the octopus was stale and gross. I cant imagine that I hit them 3 times on bad nights...I gave them a fair shake and will not be going back.
I have been going to this Restaurant where they were located across their current location. The place was managed by his Original Owner, who my co worker and I used to call him Pa. Excellent service, fresh food, good taste, clean place , elegant, plenty of wines brand to choose to drink. Good music..The Spanish customer food server is very polite, attentive, working there for more than 10 years. I definitely will refer this place to go visit.Good job. Congratulations on your new location.Windy Goglas.
Will you been coming here about four years already the only problem I have is the service is terrible the waitress always has an attitude manager the manager is a great guy he understands people but if his servers nicer we will definitely go back last time I was there there was a hair in my salad the server Was saying that it’s my hair but the problem was I have a gray hair the hair was black until I got the manager and then the manager said you are absolutely right the hair is black like to service hair it wasn’t about the six dollar salad but she was literally going wor word with me like I was wrong number
Poor quality food. French fries were old, stale, oil soaked, inedible. Gyros, the pita bread was stale and portion of meat was sparse. Large Greek salad with chicken the feta cheese was barely there, tomatoes were cut VERY rustic, was given a small tiny cup of dressing for a large salad and finally the chicken was so dry & salty it was enough to make you choke & get edema at the same time. Very disappointing especially for the price we paid and considering we used to come here regularly prior to the pandemic. Sadly everything has gone down since.
Food is good. Usually big sizes. But the is the funny part that got me laughing. Last time I purchased the Greek salad it literally came with one Olive. When I spoke to the gentleman on the phone today I asked him why it only comes with one Olive and he said because its a small salad. He said a medium salad gets three to five and a large salad gets 5 to 8 olives. Is this really serious???? 1 olive for a salad. This is sad. The salad is full of tomatoes lettuce a tad bit of feta a ton of onions and one Olive. This is cheap!
Very poor service and food was dry. If you’ll notice the negative reviews lately you will see a trend. Stop blaming a pandemic especially when you have all tables being utilized, no masks in place and your doors are open. It is the lack of attention to detail. It’s poor management, and based on whomever is responding back to the negative reviews in such a disrespectful manner, it’s poor leadership and self reflection. Instead of blaming the customers who are spending money at your establishment, how about you apologize and offer them a meal on the house? That would go a long way rather than blaming the customer for your lack of service and quality. Looks like I’m in search of a new Greek restaurant. Best of luck.
Terrible takeout experience x3. We have been coming to the new location since it opened and typically either take out and pick up ourselves (which hasn’t been great but we come back) or eat in when it was available before Covid. Tonight we ordered through Uber eats. Uber eats came quickly and none of this was their fault. Our order came fast...however, my husbands meal was missing, as was our extra pita and any salad dressing. When I called, their response was to call Uber Eats and say we were not happy. I explained it wasnt Ubers fault there were items missing! The number they gave me to call was not to report missing items. The manager should have came on the phone and offered to have the item delivered instead of making it my problem. My husband was without his dinner and they didnt see that as their problem which is an issue. We dont live in Commack which is why we had the order delivered. $75 later we are not happy how this was handled and wont be returning.
The food was top notch and Sophia gave ☆ service. Even the Manager stopped by to check on my meal. This place gets better as the years go by. It was always great, but they improve the food, service, location, and ambiance as often as possible. You gotta love a restaurant that doesnt get complacent and hires a phenomenal wait staff.
Laura (the manager) is AMAZING, I just go there for her service! Every time I walk into the restaurant, I feel as if I traveled 40 years back to my days in Brooklyn, having conversations with my mom and grandma. Laura is so hospitable, warm-hearted, and passionate in what she does, to me it’s just worth going there grabbing a drink at the bar, and just chatting with Laura! I highly recommend it!
Went with a party of six for first time. Nice, clean location. Very polite and friendly staff. Nice menu. Great appetizers. Main dishes arrived a little longer than we would have liked. Dishes were hot and looked very appealing. Portions are very nice. Three of six in my party enjoyed their meal, and the other three found their meat to be dry and not as enjoyable. Location was very busy. I think if you have a specific dish that you enjoy it can be well worth your trip. However, although the overall experience was a good one, Im not sure there was anything that I would yearn to go back for a second time... Greek food aficionados will probably disagree.
What a great restaurant. The portions are huge. I had a small Greek salad with chicken souvlaki. The salad is huge. Before the meal we got pita and tziki sauce and Orzo. Both were delicious. The service was great. The chicken was spiced so well that it was delicious. I would definitely recommend this place.
It was OK. The staff was so helpful it became annoying. While trying to have a conversation with old friends the help was so worried about cleaning off the table and reaching in front of us while still eating. Get some manners. We were also blinded by sun light, after all the times they came over you would think someone would close the blind without us having to ask. ATTENTION to detail matters, not the traditional manager walking by as we are leaving to ask how was your meal.Food was OK or I would have rated the experience a 2 star. Pricey $$$ for Greek food. Second time Ive been there and probably my last.
Beautiful new place and the same excellent food and waitstaff. Not sure if the ventilation system is working but there was a haze when we walked in and my clothes smelled like the food when we left.Gorgeous setup outside, too. Could use more seats for people waiting because two elderly couples sat at the bar (not drinking but needing to sit) and those that wanted a drink were annoyed.Cant wait to go back... Love Laura the manager, always smiling, welcoming and accommodating everyone.
I used to go here all the time but I must say I don’t think I would revisit. I ordered a salmon salad and let me tell you the price was not worth the salad I got. For $22 I was expecting a decent sized piece of salmon but it’s was a sliver. My brother got a burger asked for medium and it was very well done. I don’t think I would return, probably just buy the dressing myself and never order food again. The price increase really did the place dirty- shame.
My experience with this place both times over the past 2 years was not impressive. they just seem more concerned about their image than the quality of their food. i will probably not go back a third time, but if i do i really hope they improve their food. it has potential, but i really was disappointed in the price/quality ratio.
We were greeted warmly and seated quickly. They even insisted on moving us when they noticed the sun was in my husbands eyes. Our server was very friendly and attentive. The food portions were large and everything was delicious. The lemon potatoes are to die for. Definitely recommend checking this place out.
My girlfriend and I had lunch there on Sunday. What a great experience, start to finish. We got sat right away, and were greeted by our server right away. They had a very team oriented service. Just about every server had a hand in creating a great experience. They were all anticipating our needs and as a former server, I can appreciate good service. The food was good to boot!
Went to the new location for the first time. Overall the food was decent a bit on the salty side but not bad. I was however extremely disappointed in the octopus entree that I ordered. It was a takeout order and the octopus was extremely over cooked and almost inedible. If I didn’t have company over I would have brought it back as it costs $25 and was horrible. All in all it was just an ok experience for us.
I just left there after having dinner. The gyro platter was ok, the Athenian salad was fried panko bread crumbs sans eggplant and chicken. Dry and inedible. I have eaten this before and it was very good. When I asked for more dressing, however, the girl at the register asked for $1.75 more. I explained I wasnt looking for additional anything just enough to cover the salad. She didn’t care. When I mentioned this to the manager, I think Laura was her name, I was told very abruptly “ I don’t make the prices here! “. I can’t believe that is the proper retort for a Patron that just spent 80$ on food and drove 30 minutes to eat at their establishment. Not to mention no table appetizers ares served due to COVID. I don’t get the connection cause if I paid she said I would get them. I would never go back again, apparently they don’t care or need my business. I’ll take my money and eat elsewhere better food and get a better attitude for sure.
Awesome food, delicious gyro, very good avgolemono soup (lemon, egg, potato, orzo rice), amazing Tzatziki (sauce). Probably the tastiest Tzatziki in the NY, NJ, CT metropolitan area Ive had (and Ive had quiet a few). Above priced food, but worth it. VERY clean place/location. Covid friendly. Fast service, even when very busy.Need I say more. Sure, I will.Worth the extra few minutes drive & extra few $ to get very high quality food and service. The employees were MORE than friendly and explained the menu (if need be, for my buddy).
Comfortable, cozy, family friendly. The food is delicious and big portions. First time here and was not disappointed at all. Everything fresh and delicious, the salads fresh and beautiful, the pita bread soooo fresh, the hummus and yogurt dips delightful, the meats savory and delicious. Great service and caring staff, highly recommend.
Ordered on 05/09/20 - We were looking forward to going here but unfortunately not the best experience. The young woman who helped us was not friendly. We ordered a Greek salad with chicken and the King George gyro, which came with a side of avgolemono soup. The soup was good, not amazing. The salad was very big but not flavorful. The gyro was bland, the pork was tough, and it was filled with mostly shredded lettuce. For an $18 salad and a $15 gyro, I expected more.My opinion - the food was a bit overpriced, the quality of the food was okay, and there are better (and friendlier) Greek options in the neighborhood.** UPDATE** 05/13/20 - Interesting response from owners. We ordered on May 9th, Mother’s Day was May 10th, not sure what was disheartening. Might be time for them to evaluate who is responding to Google reviews, to say the least.
Food is really good. I had the Mediterranean salad. Order the small if you are eating it by yourself, it is an extremely large salad.Service was very good as well. The only reason I didnt give 5 stars is because of how long we had to wait from the time we ordered until our food arrived. We were the first customers of the day. We arrived at 11:10 am. Maybe they werent set up yet....
Delicious greek food. The food was always very very good, since they moved it has become excellent. The bar is a great addition, the new location is nicer and roomier. There is enough culinary talent in this restaurant to go to the next level. Specials on fish and other entrees should be added on weekends, based on deliciousness, this taverna would compete easily with the higher end restaurants near by.
The food and service was GREAT. Sherry was our server. She was very good especially because we were a bit demanding. (Sorry Sherry). We had the lamb gyros, spanakopita and my sister had The Apollo. The chicken was a bit salty on that. Everything else though was really good.
I just came in for a salad and I was very much impressed. The large salad was huge and had FRESH pita bread . The best pita bread Ive ever had . Their dressing was delectable and I also got string beans which were seasoned perfectly . All in all i would come back for sure .
Excellent Gyro - OK ServiceUpon sitting down, we were presented with plates of pita slices and greek cucumber yogurt sauce, as well as orzo and tomato sauce. Both were absolutely amazing. The lemon soup was excellent, and the gyro was stuffed!! My wifes chicken was perfectly cooked and not dry. The only thing lacking was the service. It was quite clear that the server wanted to be elsewhere. Would definitely recommend!!
Just ordered take out and this was easily the worst Greek food that we’ve ever had. My parents ate there 2 weeks ago and it was excellent. The chicken Kebob was super dry and tasteless, it soaked all of saliva out of my mouth had to drink multiple glasses of water to rinse it down. I wanted potatoes with lemon all I got was Lemon with my potatoes l. As a Greek I’m highly disappointed. Wouldn’t order take out from here.
Only thing keeping it from 5 stars is the pace of the service. Have been there twice and both times food has been amazing. Have been in search of a good Greek place after the Mediterranean in Huntington closed. This place may have finally stopped our search. Baklava isnt up to Mediterranean standards but is good.
First time since the move. Food is just as delicious as before. Portions are slightly smaller. Some staples are no longer on the regular menu this includes pastichio and moussaka that are now only on the catering menu. I would recommend any of the specials they are always outstanding.
The food was very good, lemon soup, pork souvlaki and the pork lollipop. Hard to get items with dairy allergies. Slightly slow wait time to get food and to get water refilled, there was an issue with our order and their customer experience was very good in remedying the problem.
TAKE THE STEAK OFF THE MENU!!!I was served the saddest steak that I have ever seen in my life. I guess that’s what I get from ordering a steak at a Greek place. Its description and price got me. To be the most expensive item in the menu it gotta be a good steak. The “14oz” steak seemed to barely have 10oz, no sear marks, it looked like it was boiled. It looked disgusting. Serve with 1/8 of a lemon and a tiny container of rice on a HUGE oval plate. It was really sad. I wouldn’t order it for 10$.Staff was helpful, they offered to get me an extra steak for free. But I ended up ordering something else. The new location is beautiful but I feel like the food was better at their other location. They didnt charge me for the steak I didnt have.Go there for slightly overpriced but kinda good greek food, nothing else. Rice is meh, garlic yogurt sauce and pitta are good. They get 4/5 for having the nerve and confidence to out that little shoe sole in front of me and expect me to pay 29$ + tax. I don’t want to be overdramatic but I felt offended.
Awesome food, just visited the new location and it’s beautiful, roomy and the food is great as always. I had chicken dish with feta it was awesome and we had octopus appetizer which was delicious. Highly recommend them and we love supporting local family businessCheck them out !!
Athenian Greek Taverns was phenomenal. The food was delicious and plentiful. Pita with tzatziki and orzo is complimentary for the table. I highly recommend the eggplant and the spanikopita. Samantha was our server. She was polite, professional and friendly. Try to make reservations ahead of time. Understandably a very popular place!
Floors are slippery.... So right away you question the cleanliness. Menu had old food stuck on it.... Again cleanliness. Place order, our table gets the salad and soup served right away. Salad was awful, shredded iceberg lettuce that already was turning brown, mushy tomatoes. Put that to the side. Now we wait and wait and wait for our food. A gyro, a souvlaki and a salad. Waited so long a server that must have come off of break asked us if she should get the check. We told her waiting for our food. She eventually brings the food (never saw our original server after he took the order but he was still serving others). No one ever came back... So no one could ask how was the food, would you like a refill, would you like anything else. Needed a refill.... Didnt get it. Couldnt eat my souvlaki, it was cold, dry and just doesnt taste good and more mushy tomatoes. Left more than half of it. The salad my brother ordered was drenched in Olive oil.... He left over half of his meal and he eats everything and couldnt do it. My mom said her food was cold as well and dry and not good. Now just trying to get someone to acknowledge us so we can say something or just get the check. Finally we got up and asked for check at the counter. Absolutely ridiculous service. Horrible food. Will never recommend to anyone.
Update.11/20. Got take out today. Well set up now for take out with pandemic. NO INDOOR AT ALL. Take out wS just as good. Well packaged for travel11/19 First time there. Outstanding!!!. Chicken roll stuffed with spinach and feta cheese, in a lemon sauce. A delicious Greek dry red wine. The absolutely best Tzatziki I ever tasted. Good luck in the new building. We will be back.
What an amazing Greek restaurant. We were greeted by Laura. From then on it was absolute Bliss. We ordered the grilled octopus, A traditional gyro and the chicken Aktrata. For dessert we had the Galactouboureko. A custardy filo dough honey and cinnamon delight. I would highly recommend this place
Best taste I have had outside of Greek town in Toronto, Canada! I have traveled to many places in US and this is the most authentic and tasty. Ordered take out twice; it was fast, clean and no nonsense! Portions are generous and affordable. Great family food! Best dish for me was the Greek salad with Chicken! Yum!
Ordered take out for 6 recently. Greek salad, Gyro meat, roasted potatoes w/ lemon, appetizer tray of feta, hummus, olives etc all were very very good. Roast pork and 1/2 roasted chicken both flavorful if slightly dry. Stuffed pepper got raves. Plenty of salad dressing and yogurt sauce was included, and everything was carefull wrapped to avoid spills on the way home. A staff member carried my order out to the car, a nice touch. Highly recommended!
In my opinion, this is THE Greek restaurant to go to in Suffolk County. The generous portions, authentic taste, and a home-like warm atmosphere are something I always look forward to. The yogurt sauce and salad dressing are well known and delicious. It is very reasonably priced considering the quality of REAL Greek food you get at Athenian. The staff makes you feel like part of the family and are very genuine. 5 stars.
Love the brothers & their food, been going there over 20s. Al little while ago I Stopped in to pick u up take out & they asked how’s the family, we’ve missed you. I started crying & told them my daughter passed away on thanksgiving 2017. They were shocked & graciously would not let me pay for the food. I can’t say enough nice things about them , terrific food & care about their customers. Sincerely maureen morrow
This place is my go to whenever I want authentic, delicious Greek food. They have a nice menu and the owners are always very hospitable.I love their mussels in Athenian sauce, their yia yais eggplant, their gyro, their orzo in tomato sauce, the list goes on .there isnt much I havent tried and loved. Highly recommend
First off, their tzatziki sauce is some of the best that I have ever had. My grandmother and I, who I ate with, are kind of tzatziki sauce connoisseurs, and we are both repeating the words “that was awesome” 30 minutes later. I love this place and we will eat here again. Try it!
This place was semi-legit. I enjoyed the flaming saganaki, tzatziki, and grilled gyro. My USB and liked his grilled octopus. The chicken cubes were pretty dry. I liked the dolmas, which werent served cold, but they could have used a little more lemon juice. The servers are nice but not attentive; no one to Refill water or get napkins when u need. The food takes a LONG time. I would come again for the better than average food.
My son and I went there for lunch. What a hidden gem! Incredibly authentic greek food. Fresh ingredients and a friendly wait staff. If you love Greek food or if youve never tried Greek food this is the place for you. It also seems that they have a very active take out following as well. The souvlaki and gyros were great and the walnut cake was to die for - I had to stop my son from licking the plate.
This place is such a rip off. My wife ordered a salad with chicken and they gave two pieces and charge $20. Everything there is extremely expensive and they charge you an arm and a leg for extra side of yogurt. During the height of the pandemic none of the workers were wearing masks in the back room and there was somebody at the bar having a drink in the middle of April with no mask! Rip off!
Delicious from the sauce to the appys, salads and entree, you cannot go wrong. We have eaten here many times and every time has been delicious. The wines are spectacular and they even have gluten free pita!!! Johnny is an awesome host ... eat here and you will definitely enjoy some authentic Greek cusine!
Awesome and friendly service, with amazing food!Had their special of the day, barbeque lamb with lemon potatoes. Could not decide on what to order for dessert, so I ordered a platter and enjoyed a little of everything!Hope to return to Commack again just so I can stop by for another visit!
Years ago when I worked in commack this place was great. Yesterday I had to throw out my 16 dollar lunch. I ordered a large Greek salad with Chicken. I got shredded iceberg lettuce, dry chicken cubes, canned grape leaves, that all tasted just bland and somewhat old. Chicken may have been pre cooked and reheated. Im struggling to find a reason to give it one star.
As a Greek I found this place lacking. Serving gouvetsi to the table was a great touch and gave me high hopes. But I found the food to be salty. I ordered yiannis gyro but it was disappointing. The idea was great but the execution poor. The spicy feta melted and oil was dripping out from everywhere and through the pita. Onions and tomatoes were also heated up and were more sauteed then fresh. I really liked there spicey tzatziki.
Amazing and Fresh Greek Food! Everyone there is so friendly and with the news of them moving across the street, just makes me excited even more!!! The lamb kebob was to DIE FOR!! And the Chicken Soulvaki just melts in your mouth! If your in the mood for some Greek Food this place is the Go-To Place!!!!
Theee best Greek restaurant in the area ! Everything is always super fresh. Every menu item I’ve had always has so much flavor. I loveee their salad dressing!! ❗️Must try the Chicken Souvlaki, it’s amazing. Also the staff is great always super friendly and attentive even when they are crazy busy! ( Take out is my go-to it’s always just as good as dining in )
Awesome food , nice atmosphere, I loved it so much I started to use them for catering for my job and I get RAVE reviews. One of my doctors wives said that she is VERY fussy when it comes to her food and will make the trip to eat there it was so good, Try it you will love it!!
Ok here is the deal. I have been to new location now 4 times, today might be the last. For whatever reason the food just isnt same as it used to be at old location. The Tzatziki sauce is not the same as it used to be, its more of a cucumber tzat and had several ppl confirm. That was the calling card for me but now has changed. Everything while seemingly the same, just feels off, and or a tad lesser. I see for the most part faces from the old location, so I dunno if its same chef or not. I had this Greek place # 1 on Island at time. Sorry to say no more, and trust me I miss it and not to come here to put you down. Just hoping to a return to form.
The BEST greek food ever! Alex is awesome and very accommodating. We catered another birthday party at my house today from them. Once again, everyone raved about how great all of the food was. The staff is very patient and creative with us to create an order that everyone will enjoy. A ton of food for a great price. Having an event catered by Athenia takes all the stress away from planning your special day. I highly recommend you think about them for your next event!!
I have never been treated better anywhere in my life!!! Chef and owner treated my husband and me to a couple glasses of wine and a house made dessert that will rock your socks and I cant tell you how much that means! Lets talk about the food. . . The octopus was spot on!!!! Perfectly poached grilled and chilled chef came out and described his process and I couldnt be more impressed. Salmon. . . I DONT ORDER SALMON FROM ANYWHERE ELSE Im talking in the world bc they always ruin it! This is THE BEST salmon I have ever had! I always order it to go which is why we sat in bc its always perfect!!! Btw they have gluten free pita which is a God send bc I have celiac and cant enjoy bread that I live but now I can!!! I wish I could leave 1000 stars!
With two brothers at the helm of this family run local Greek in Commack, the fare here is delicious. They do grilled fish of all types perfectly. Ask for their fish specials which you have a choice of 3 ways to be prepared. The EVOO option is our personal fav. The traditional Greek plates are also wonderful and portions are extremely generous. Its our favorite local Greek go to. Enjoy.
The service, atmosphere and the food was delicious. The chicken orzo soup was very rich, plenty of chicken and very homely. The pita bread was very fresh.I only have a couple of gripes:The gyro melt was a bit disappointing. It is just meat and melted cheese on pita bread with tzatziki sauce on the side, there is no lettuce, tomato or other toppings. Meat was a bit overcooked. The tzatziki sauce has WAY too much garlic to the point of being overpowering, leaving too strong of an aftertaste. My body/breath smelled like garlic well into the next day, even after several teeth brushings/mouthwashes.I dont mind giving them another try. The price and portion are very fair, it is a very nice and clean place, and the service was fine. I will probably order a more meaty gyro and hopefully the tzatziki sauce was just a fluke. Please ease up on the garlic!
Ok to start off you should be ashamed to even call this Greek food!!! I am 100% Greek have been to Greece every year for the last 30 years and have eaten all over Greece. To start with the appetizers I wouldnt even feed to my dog thats how bad they are! Mostly store bought stuff that has NONE of the Greek tastes in it. The grape leaves well lets just say they belong in the toilet! Everything I ordered was horrible either way to much garlic which over powered the bland crap they claim is authentic Greek food or bareley anything on it and taste horrible. You are very lucky you are in Long Island because if you came anywhere near queens and Astoria You would not make it more then a month. Your prices are extremely inflated which if the food was good I wouldnt mind paying higher prices but the fact that the food was barely even edible was a joke paying those prices. I think you better go back to Greece and ask yiayia to show you how to really cook or at least take out the authentic from your Advertising from one Greek to another how do you sleep at night selling this garbage!!!!
1hr and half wait for food that was suppose to be ready in 45 minutes..best part is when I got home they forgot my sons meal..when I went back the owner tried to blame me that I didnt check bag when I left. Totally rude and food is soo oily and going downhill..last time I give them my business..stay away
There are lots of great Greek restaurants on Long Island, but Athenian is one of my favorites. You can tell the owners love what they do, it shows in the food. My favorite dish is the Horiatiki, a traditional Greek salad without lettuce. Add some gyro meat to the salad and youve got heaven on a plate! Check Groupon and Amazon Local for deals to this place. They run them frequently.

2022-07-10Strongly NOT recommended!!!Chicken souvlaki platter was salty and dry, roasted lemon potatoes were extremely oily and salty as well, fries looked like leftovers. I guess people go there for the drinks.

2022-08-08I had Mediocre food and weak pineapple vodka. Example: the lemon potatoes were too oily. I sent it back, and the bartender kindly took it off my check. Another example: I have had much better rice pudding. Last example: the $16 pineapple vodka barely had any vodka. DO NOT GO OUT OF YOUR WAY TO EAT HERE. The best Greek Tavernas are in Queens.

2021-10-23Food was really good! I was mad that I waited so long to try it. I got the Janni gyro with a side of fries, that came with delicious spicy tzatzki sauce. The meat was seasoned wonderfully and every bite was perfect. The pita was lightly toasted but not over crisped which is my preference. My wife had a small Greek salad which was still a very generous portion. Will definitely be returning!

2022-08-02We heard so many good things about this restaurant so my husband and I are glad we finally got there. The lovely waitress was helpful and seemed happy we were there. They give you the most delicious tzatziki sauce with pita bread and an orzo dish hello. We had the eggplant appetizer and shared a very big delicious salad with a Greek spring roll. It was very affordable. Even my leftovers are delicious. Definitely going back

2022-07-14Cannot recommend at allMessy main course, too salty, barely traces of feta in greek salad, mushy fries, not a great service, and not inexpensive either. I dined in and they brought me food in the bag. One (1) napkin. Liquid tzatziki… just no

2021-09-17Absolutely amazing service. We started with a margarita flight which was incredible. The food continued to wow and impress. Only superior to the food is the service we received. Such friendly and attentive staff. Not just one but all. I highly highly recommend.

2022-04-23A hidden Gem in Commack. Great food and the best staff /Owners. Great for Appetizers, Seafood, and Gyro platters. Easy to see right off of Jericho Turnpike servicing Commack and the adjoining areas of Suffolk County. Plenty of parking and a wheelchair accessible entrance. Clean facilities. Public Restrooms. Reasonably priced. Desserts are a must. Excellent new location! Highly recommended!!!

2021-09-13Horrible food…BEWARE!!! Food was drowned in oil and salt. Ordered grilled meatballs as an appetizer, they came out looking like they were deep fried in oil. Sent them back. The lamb in the platter was stale, I mistakenly ate half the dish due to extreme hunger and got food poisoning. I vomited 3 times before I left the restaurant and once more in the parking lot. My wife wisely did not eat more than 1 mouthful of even that.Staff is nice and friendly though.
