Solid neighborhood place I’ve come to frequent! I think it’s great bang for your buck and the food is always good.Randomly I think one of my fav things they have are their salads. Very fresh and tasty. The roasted chicken was dry and just not great but I love the frito pie and their other sliders.
Ordered the brisket dinner with a side or sauteed kale and smoked gouda mac n cheese, the pork ribs, and grilled hotdogs.Ill start with the good- the kale had a great flavor and the brisket was very tender. The not so good-time meat had very little flavor and even with the bbq sauce (which is clearly vinegar based) it didnt give the flavor I was looking for. The mac n cheese was dry and not cheesy- I ended up adding cheese to it when I got home to doctor it up. The ribs were slightly tough and without the sauce there was a heavy pepper flavor to the bark. The hotdogs must have briefly touched the grill. I prefer my grilled hotdogs to have a snap to the skin when when you bite into it and this one was lacking .
Not going to rule them out yet!I enjoy taking advantage of NYC Restaurant Week. This program allows me to try new restaurants. This evening I was excited to try Au Jus, located on Lexington Ave in East Harlem. I selected the NYC Restaurant Week special for $20.21. Im a fan of smoked and BBQ meats. Well, I wasnt impressed. The place was unbusy, so I dont understand why my food was proper preparation, and I received the wrong item? Dont get me wrong; they have potential. But the employees lack customer care and brand loyalty. NYC Restaurant Week is their opportunity to gain new customers, and they failed. So, one star.
Ordered the Whole Chicken Dinner meal. The sides were not properly portioned for 2 people, which there 1st Ave location always gets right. The sides were cold as well and not very tasty (potatoes and kale). The chicken was mediocre. The only saving grace was their BBQ sauce. It was also suppose to come with cornbread, but we just got a crunchy biscuit (not cornbread). I would recommend the 1st ave location over this one.
Man... I hate the direction this restaurant is going. Prices keep going up, quality keeps going down. At least last year, I could afford their beef ribs. Now, not only can I not afford them, but they took away the option to order half portions. It was nice being able to order just 1 or 2 ribs. Smh
WHAT THE HECK HAPPENED TO THIS PLACE? I was there when they first opened, and IT WAS AMAZING. Since then, the prices have kept going up, but the quality DRASTICALLY continues to go down. Do you guys even still smoke your meats?Your so-called smoked chicken is the ABSOLUTE WORST. Its definitely NOT smoked, has the texture of plastic, and is always old tasting.Your beef ribs taste old, BARELY smoked, then reheated in a microwave, or some other meat distroying unit, and the brisket used to be my favorite, but it tastes like your cheating by partially cooking it in a smoker, but mostly in an oven, or steamer. Please go back to cooking, and taking the time to smoke, and offer quality like you did when you first opened.
They have a soft opening so menu items are currently $2 except ribs ($1) until Labor Day. Food is really good. The ribs are smoked and fall of the bone tender. I would recommend this place. If your not sure make sure to try it out b4 the prices go up. Im definitely going back.

2019-09-06I found this little gem of a restaurant by accident and boy was I happy. The food and customer service from Shelia was great! The staff was attentive and I felt welcomed. I had the Oklahoma onion burger, BBQ shrimp salad and the banana pudding....Everything was excellent and the food was fresh! According to Shelia this restaurant has been opened for 3 months now- I will definitely go back. All food sold here is made on the premises...

2019-11-03We usually order from the one on 1st Avenue on seamless... until we realized theres one closer and down the street. The food here is always good! Definitely was craving bbq! We decided to dine in, the only thing is theyre cash only, which was a little inconvenient but otherwise everything else was good.

2019-08-17*Currently cash only* Had two sliders and a Frito chili pie that were super delicious!!! Would absolutely recommend the Oklahoma hots slider, and the pulled pork was juicy and flavorful as well. Not great for groups (biggest table seats 6) but well-decorated, super friendly, and clean. Will absolutely be going back!

2019-06-21New place in the neighborhood. Has about seating room for 26-30 people. Not a complicated menu just straightforward.food is made to order so it might be a little wait. They seem to have in house items like lemonade, barbeques and potato chips. Food I had was good will swing back around if to see if it get any better, check it out.

2022-01-26There are a few Au Jus locations in NYC, but this one is by far the best. Not only is the food fresh and delicious each and every time, the staff is friendly and hard working - and it shows in both the quality of service and the food. I love coming here, and delivery is just as good. Definitely a weekly visit, if not more than that. Try the roast beef sandwich!!

2021-12-10Came here yesterday for take out and as expected service was impeccable, the brisket platter with mac n cheese and cornbread was amazing and filling. Meat was tender and flavorful, mac n cheese was awesome. The cornbread however didnt meet my expectations, it was okay. I always come here when craving brisket. Their sliders are awesome as well. Definitely go to have some great food.

2022-03-01Tex-mex! No question. Excellent food. The jalapeno, pulled chicken sandwich I had was 6 star! Im just not a huge fan of country music — the background — thats all.

2021-09-25I came here because I was craving mac and cheese and was really the few places open still during 4th of July weekend. I was so pleased with their accommodations and the friendliest wait staff. I changed my order from take out to dining outdoors because of it. The beef brisket sliders, white mac and cheese and creme brûlée were so filling and satisfying. They even gave you multiple sauces to try at no extra charge. This place really seems to have a southern/barbecue feel to it and it’s worth to try!
