Avenue Cafe in other cities:
This was my second time here and It quickly turned out my favorite restaurant, the service was great although they were really busy but the food and drinks were sooo good I have no complaints, outdoor seating is well organized had a great time definitely recommend it!
Place is amazing, from the ambiance to the hospitality. I always come in here for the Avenue club sandwhich I believe it is called but, the shrimp scampi recently caught me off guard. Its a great establishment and the service is always on top of everything. One of the lady server is nice and hospitable. Will make this establishment a regular for quick bites for lunch or brunch!
This place is just ok. My friend lives in Astoria so after work we often go for early dinner and drinks and we go to Astoria. She chose the place. I had been here twice before with her it was just ok nothing too great. We ordered a few appetizers to share between the 3 of us. One was calamari. It was well seasoned, crispy, not oily and a huge portion. The second was a plate of several things haloumi (I forgot the correct spelling) grilled cheese, grilled ham, greek sausage, chicken skewers, grilled pita, tzatziki. Everything on this plate was cooked on the grill. It was good. We also ordered spinach/artichoke dip. That was pretty tasty but they didnt serve enough chips for the amount of dip and we had to ask for more. My friend and I ordered watermelon margaritas. They werent really that good. I only had one because of that. The waiter kept coming and trying to take our plates while we were still working on our food.
Service was subpar, I waited at the entrance for about 5 minutes to get a place at the bar, even tho the place wasn’t crowd and different servers were looking at me, as If I was suppose to go and grab a table by myself which would be rude of me, I think. However I waited patiently until a lady came to me when she saw more people behind me. finally I sat at the bar, the bartender wasn’t rude, but not the best. He asked me if I was an student ? what does that have to do with me as a costumer ? but okay.I ordered a glass of wine and the soup of the day;he recommended me to try something else but really I was on pasta mood.At the end I ask him the bill, he gave it to me, I paid for it, but when I was signing my bill he came to me like wait wait!!! I was like what? and he said oh no it’s okay, (I think he got confused with something on my bill) I asked for my actual receip and he gave it to me completely wrinkled. There are small things that make your visit to a restaurant pleasant or not, and this time I have to say it was unpleasant.Hope one day I come back and change my mind.
Really nice place! Servers were so helpful and perceptive (offered me a quiet table because I was carrying my laptop and work files). Bit on the pricier side but food looks and smells amazing. My order wasn’t anything special but I kept seeing them take out amazing looking sandwiches and other stuff. My order came really quick and the waitress heated up my latte when it was cold! They were SO NICE. Did not mind paying a bit more.
I heard this place reopened recently, visited it on a Sunday evening (came around 7.30pm and sat outside).First, we didnt get our drinks order taken for about 20 min after being seated. I saw other tables leaving for the same exact reason. The female waiter had no idea what a hot toddy drink was, I had to write it down on her notepad so she could ask the bartender if he could make one. 10 min went by and our table was approached by a different male server, who took our order once again and did not apologize for any delay. At that point I suggested that our drinks should be on the house and wed like to speak with a manager. We finally were presented with the drinks by the waiter and he mentioned they were in fact on the house. We then ordered a Greek salad and a pizza. The salad was rather a lettuce salad than a Greek, with barely any cucumbers or tomatoes. The pizza was okay but since the crust and layer of dough was thick it didnt cook through in the middle. It took us another 30-40 min to receive the check (I asked the waitress twice, she reappeared again) while the table was full with dirty plates that werent cleaned up.Overall, inattentive and slacking service, so-so food and not very strong drinks. I wouldnt come back here. 3
Came to Avenue Cafe for brunch and had a fantastic experience. Andrés was our bartender. Not only did he greet us immediately with such a warm presence , but his drinks were spectacular. Try the espresso martini, it’s to die for! I definitely recommend this restaurant.
The food is overpriced and it’s pretty basic. It’s not terrible but it’s not amazing either. I ordered the Avenue burger and it was pretty dry as the house sauce was not on it for some reason. My boyfriend ordered the classic breakfast and the pancakes were burnt and everything else was just bland. I’m sure we just ordered the wrong items, maybe i’ll come back another time and see if something else is better.
I’ve been here twice and it was amazing! The CALAMARI is perfectly cooked and marinara sauce is tasty. The food has a good portion. I got the shrimp scampi pasta and it was delish! Their cocktails is so good I got the strawberry lemonade because I like sweet cocktails! FYI if you are paying credit or debit there’s a card fee of 3.33% (not sure exact percentage) I paid by card and gave the server a cash tip because I know they appreciate cash tips than card tips. The cheesecake is good as well. Would highly recommend this place for food and drinks plus prices is affordable.
This is the worst place ever as a black person going there for the first time I felt so uncomfortable with the white men staring at me and my sister it’s so awkward being cat called by them and they make it so obvious that they stare too like y’all haven’t seen a black person before or what💀
This restaurant definitely caters to the “single male” population. When we came in for brunch the table of men next to us clearly had trays of oysters. When we tried to order the same, we were told that they aren’t on the menu. Okay. Then the waitress proceeded to only cater to the male tables, as well as the manager, who blatantly ignored us. Before we even got an appetizer, the table who came in after us had already finished their entrees. The only reason they are getting 2 stars was because their hummus was actually very good. Many other great restaurants in the neighborhood to spend your money. Also don’t forget their “debit/credit card charge”.
There were 2 twenty year old men screaming at the table next to us and the manager and waitresses did not do anything. I mean they were screaming from the top of their lungs all night long. I had to almost literally cover my ears it was so loud as the profanities were flung as I sat with my girlfriend in terror. There comes a point where the management has to do something but I guess rather than lose one customer the manager would rather terrorize 7 other customers who sat around these loud mouths. A horrible experience at this restaurant...never again. And the food did not make up for his nightmarish experience. Stay away from his place as management and wait staff dont giveva darn about you.
Everything was excellent. Our table had quacamole and chips (the chips were seasoned so well), pizza, chicken Alfredo (the sauce was so creamy and delicious), salmon burger and regular beef burger and fries. We had zero complaints, everything tasted delicious and will definitely go back again.
Nice to the eye but food is plain awful was undercooked and pricey, was very dissapointed, steak was hard as rock, dried not flavor, salad tasted old, the services was pretty bad saw our waitress once and that was to pay the bill. Usually greek restaurants are great... I guess this place is just for a crowd that wants to listen to house music and drink.
Very beautiful design- that s it. Food is terrible- mexican fire in the mouth. Young guy - curly hair ,arabic appearance- soooo annoying ,every second with water, dropped water on the table, ugle piece of close for table. Awful. And food full of jalapeno. .Same taste. Waisted of money.
I would have given this place a 5 star if I had known beforehand that if you pay with card youll be charged a service fee. So for my meal of $150 I was charged almost $7 on top of that for using my credit card. Its sad because the service, the food, and the ambiance everything was really good about this place. Idk if I would go back
The service was horrible, we waited for more than 15 min for the server who never came. We asked 3 times the hostess to bring someone at our table for our prder but that never happened and on top of that we were with a baby and no one seemed to care to come at our table. When we left the hostess saw us and didn’t even apologize for the horrible service and on top of that she was rude and not welcoming nor professional. Im too disappointed
I will give the 5 stars for the waitress named Blerta , she was so correct and nice to us, the order comes on time without late that happened other times i was there., me and my friend felt very comfortable with her service, so i wanted to thanks her here.Thank you Blerta 🤗.
Chill, kind service and decent food at affordable prices at this Greek-influenced club / restaurant / bar / diner. The waffle plate is huge, with 4 waffles & eggs & potatoes & meat. Other items are more reasonably sized. My friends love this place. I go along because its a low-key atmosphere. No decaf drip coffee.
We came here on a Saturday afternoon in hopes of having savory crepes. We couldnt order them because they only had the brunch menu available, so we ordered brunch burgers instead. They were good, but not the best Ive had. The bread wasnt as soft as Id like and the meat could have used more seasoning.
My first time in New York, I decided to give Avenue Cafe a try due to their excellent reviews. Their coffe and desert are exceptional. I had some personal complications but they were very helpful and the manager seemed to be more than happy to help.. Overall a great experience right in the center of Greek Astoria.
This place is weird. The staff tells you from the entrance that youre on your own, you buy your drinks from the bar, you buy your food from the counter. Fine. The moment you sit down other staff comes asking you over and over again what will you have. Then they guy that told us were on our own showed up and posted himself standing next to the table and staring at us. My husband had already gone to the bar to get drinks but now they are attempting to serve us. Weird!
Walked in with my wife on a packed Sunday, and the hostess said she had a table opening up. 3 guys came in, stepped in front of us, followed her to the back and took our table. She let it happen, then said we had to wait.I have no idea if the food is good there, and I guess Ill never find out.
Horrible service! Hostess skips the line for too many times and let me wait on the pavement too long. If I was the third on the line, lots of people behind me sat before me because the hostess or the owner knows them or I don’t know what and they don’t even apologize.
7/4/17 around 8:30pm. Your hostess tonight was clueless and horrible. As the customers approaching your hostess stand - Whats your soup of day? Hostess - I dont know, is that on the menu? We laugh and she comes back with thats not my job I just seat people. Sure, thats correct. Youre great at doing the bare minimum. To bad you couldnt seat us because you told us you dont know the soup of the day, if its even a menu item, and that youve never eaten at this location. We went down the street to the Shady Lady where they could answer our questions and serve us.
I ate at Avenue Café last night with a friend it was my first time I had grilled chicken Caesar salad and that coffee latte and for dessert I had crapes with NewTele chocolate and banana let me tell you I had an amazing experience the food was unbelievable delicious and fresh that dessert was delicious as well I will definitely come back Service was overwhelming I would definitely recommend this place to anybody thank you for great service and great food Ronnie.
It is in a very well decorated place, with great pleasure. The service is very good and the food too.Very cool in summer with the windows open and listening to the music from the terrace they put on the outside .... it seems part of the place to open completely. In winter it is very cozy and warm .....In the foods that put ketchup they put the typical dwarf containers and have to be asking all the time to put more ... and mayonnaise ....
The food is good but the service is terrible, they put waitresses who believe that just because of their presence they deserve to be called waitresses but they do not serve, they are not attentive, the food arrives first than the drinks and it is not that the drinks are not ready but that the waitress forgets to go for them, there are times that it is more worth leaving appearances and putting people who know how to work because the place is beautiful and the food is good but the service kills everything, they go 3 times I go and 3 times bad service of the waitresses

2021-08-12This place is amazing. Great decor, great service. Lots of comfortable outside seating. Cecilia the hostess was extremely welcoming and made us feel at home. Our server, Mariana, was great. Prompt, friendly and great service all around. The steak, mussels, salad, octopus, chicken skewers and hummus were top notch. Highly recommend. The coffee and dessert was also amazing.

2022-05-31Came for appetizers ! Not my first time here but first time reviewing it. I love the wine list specially the selection of Greek Wines and the Rosé Jean Luc Colombo. The appetizers were hummus and tzatziki from the happy hour special and the oysters. Service was ok.

2021-08-21Easygoing, busy and chill place with good food and coffee. Sometimes the service is a bit slow. Brunch options are good. Didn’t love my chicken waffle but that’s just a matter of seasoning that I didn’t enjoy, it doesn’t mean it’s not good in general. Dessert waffles were great. The place has a good vibe to it and diverse guests.

2022-04-23The food was absolutely wonderful. But better than the food was Peter the server. He was so nice and really took time to make sure we would like his recommendations. We loved everything. Eddy stopped by our table and we had a lovely chat. From the nice red headed hostess to the server to the management, the ambiance and food. I cant wait to come back.
