Rented a Chrysler 300 for a week. Car was new (6000 miles) and had nice amenities. Unfortunately the car was not clean and smelled quite bad of smoke. There was ash in the back sea . Other than making all my clothes smell of smoke, the rental was decent. I brought the smoking up to the return desk and was met with a ok....not the best service at the desk.
Be careful if using travel rewards or credit card points to book with Avis. Id booked a car for two days using points at a rate of $23/day, only to have my credit card charged when I returned the car at a rate of $85/day. After months of disputing this with Avis with the support and documentation from my credit card company, Avis sent it to a collections agency. Extremely frustrating experience that will affect my choice in rental car companies for all future travel.
Called to rent a car told the person I talked to that I had a debit card and did not have a major credit card and asked if that would be an issue. I was told no it would be fine as long as the money for the deposit was on the card. I had a reservation confirmed and had someone drive me 20 minutes away so I could pick the car up. When I arrived they told me the debit card I had would not be sufficient to take the car although I was told it was fine and had a reservation. The person working the desk tried to call her manager FIVE times and got no response which led to us being told there was nothing they could do and to try National to see if they had a car. They didnt. I had to cancel my trip last minute and waste my time and the persons who drove me to get the car time as well. Your agents working the phone need to not give out false information which lead to major inconveniences to a paying customer.
I really liked the Kia Optima that I was given. It served all my needs and then some. And when I came to the Avis counter/desk, the attendants (1) already knew who I was, (2) already knew my preferences, (3) I didnt need to sign/swipe anything to expedite the process, and (4) told me my preferred/plus status and knew that I will come to them again and again.
I agreed to pay ahead for gas and wasn’t told if I had gas left I wouldn’t be credited. I turned vehicle in with a half a tank left and still had to pay for $50. What is the benefit of doing it this way? Plus the first vehicle had bare tires and one with low air. Doesn’t anyone check this?
Car was terrific but check in was a disaster.Agent was pre-occupied with herself and not looking after the needs of her customers. Waited over a half hour while car was already in parking lot waiting for me to drive it away. Keys were right in front of her but she failed to notice them.Avis staff otherwise are exceptional.
Problems with a prepaid rental agreement, website does not explain specific policies of the pick up location (ie which credit cards are accepted - they say they accept Visa but they refused to take it at the counter). Agent gave a general area of where to find the car, but I wandered around the parking lot until I found my rental near the exit. Airport under heavy construction. Next time I will call the location first after getting my confirmation to make sure they know everything requested and no extra charges applied after the fact (I pay an extra $30 for things my confirmation said I had but the counter had no record of it)
I have used Avis many times in the past with no issues. This time I had a car with mechanical prblems and had to exchange it. The car they gave me in exchange had big scrapes on the side and te bumper was coming off. The seat was soiled. Not to mention no cruise control?? I will still go back as I have said this is the first time I have had trouble with Avis.
The car I received was dirty with mud and stained seats that I really didnt want to sit in. I told the front desk agent and he swapped it out for me. I went to the second car and it had fender damage. I opened it up and it had mud in it as well but atleast this time the seats appeared clean. I didnt bother bringing it back being I already was behind on time. Three stars is only because the agent was doing the best that he can to better my experience. Im Writing this review because I feel renting a car should feel like getting in a car you wished you had not this time.
If I could give this joke of an establishment zero stars I would. Terrible service. Just awful experience that ensures I will NEVER rent from Avis ever again. Flying in from Chicago and called ahead multiple times in the days prior to our trip as our flight was scheduled to land 5 minutes before the kiosk closed, provided our flight number and were assured that they would remain open to honor our reservation until our flight landed. We tried to call the location when our flight was delayed multiple times before we boarded and no one at the location answered! Arrived to an empty kiosk and no assistance from customer service, who only responded that the employee must have left and there was nothing they could do - which stranded multiple passengers on our flight at the airport. Shame on them for leading us to believe that customer service was a priority and that in serving a small airport and community with limited transportation opportunities that they would be a reliable travel option. This Avis location is not reliable and has demonstrated abysmal service which points to the lack of service and accountability for the entire corporation. I will be sure whenever recommending car rental locations in the future to say anywhere but Avis
The gentleman named Aaron that helped me with my rental was amazing he was very friendly and very helpful And the pricing was not bad at all I know I will definitely keep renting cars from them thank you so much Aaron this has been the absolute best car rental I have ever been in
Horsehead ny clerk tried to screw us every way he could,didnt answer any questions just tried to keep screwing us,ended up walking away,would never go to them again,enterprise is a 100% better place to go,everyone in horsehead ny should be fired asap.zero stars for these pos.

2022-03-12Signed up with them on a third party site that I was repeatedly directed to when trying to reserve a vehicle. It was my first time utilizing a rental vehicle. I had checked ahead of time to ensure my card would work with them as I have heard that certain rental places only accept credit cards, which I dont have. I utilized them to plan a trip several hours away that I had put a lot of money down on after ensuring they would accept my card. When I got to the airport and went to pick up the vehicle, I was told by a representative that they did not accept my card (it was a card through my credit union that has been utilized as a credit card and a debit card). When I questioned why I was being told one thing over the phone and another by them, I was told that they work with third party companies who advertise their deals for them without following their procedures and that there was nothing they could do. Because of this, I was out of a vehicle and out of $800 worth of reservation stays where my trip was due to last minute cancellation. When asked what could be done due to being lied to on the phone, I was told they could do nothing and it wasnt Avis responsibility what their advertisers did.

2019-01-09While my rental was prearranged by my company, the service I received when retrieving and returning the car was more than satisfactory. The initial paperwork at the counter went smoothly. The car itself, an almost new 2018 Kia Soul, was clean and ran with no issues, although it was not sleek and didnt fit my taste. Overall, a good rental experience.

2022-05-27I needed a car to drive from Pennsylvamia to Detroit Michigan. Upon arriving to Detroit, I needed to return the car early. I was told I could, but since I prepaid, I would not get any money back. Ridiculous!!

2022-02-20Theyre let me make reservation, confirm by email,but when I came to pick up there only accept credit cards to pay for it. Why its does not saying nowhere about it? Why I have to come in person to know about it? Why I can pay for reservation by my debit card and why theyre said its your problem ,what is you dont have a credit card?

2021-11-23Upon arrival to airport I went to avis check in desk to pick up my truck that I reserved. The lady at the desk said I dont have a truck for you because we rented last one out couple of days ago and tried to give me a small suv. Explained to her that I reserved a truck do to my trip for hunting. She said just be glad we have a vehicle for you because the other car rentals dont have vehicles for their reservations. Not sure what that had to do with anything about my rental with avis. She made it out like I should be grateful for not getting what I reserved. Not sure that is a good way to run a business. Needless to say I had to pay some other hunter I met to transfer my deer to be process since I couldnt put it in the back of the suv. I made this reservation over two months in advance so there is no excuse to not have a truck available when you have truck available to rent online. I wont be renting from avis again.

2021-11-13All in all the car got me safely, with fun, from NY to NC. Though there were pricing issues and the original car they had ready for me was the wrong size- but they handled the issue quickly and easily.

2021-06-20The original vehicle was filthy and had pink paint or something all over the backseat. The outside was dirty also. Then on vacation the check engine light came on so I called and waited over an hour and 40 minutes to speak with someone and they could do nothing about it. Avis never called about the car and I had to call back and take time out of my vacation to exchange cars rather than Avis doing it.

2019-05-23No waiting time. No one is waiting outside, so you have to visit the office inside of airport. Return takes longer time because you have to visit inside.

2021-11-17You need to reinforce non smoking rule...vehicle stunk of tobacco. My last rental with Avis the exact same thing. I am looking at different options moving forward
