I understand that car rentals come in classes...I rented a Ford Transit 15 passenger van which has all bucket seats and aisles and is a more premium vehicle. What I received is a Chevy Express which is a cargo van with seats.I called national customer service and the rep on the other end said it was a similar class vehicle and there is nothing to be done. I asked to speak to a supervisor and he said there is non available and he hung up.Last time renting from Avis...back to Enterprise.
Do yourself a favor and don’t waste your time here. This was my husband and I’s first time renting a car. My husband payed online on Monday, today Friday we were due to pick up the car. Unlike the other reviews they actually had cars this time, but of course.. they didn’t want to give me the car we had payed for because I didn’t have a credit card on me that had $100 on it. As I’m sure everyone can relate my credit card takes 2/3 days to update the balance. Point is: no where in the fine print did it say we needed a credit card when we had payed with our debit card online. The lady behind the counter insisted that “it’s in the fine print” i showed her our confirmation email and the website which, of course, said no such thing. Rather than trying to help me, when asked what should I do? She smirked gave a little giggle and said “try going where they take debit cards” and turned to the next costumer. I could go on for a while about how terribly unhappy I am with this experience but, I’m sure as you can all see from the other one stars, this place isn’t worth the headache. Oh ps: today’s my birthday, thanks lady for the headache!
If I could rate them at zero stars I would. I reserved a car on a Friday evening to drive to North Carolina on Saturday and fly home on Sunday. When I got to the lot there was one SUV there, and I walked in and mentioned to the guy behind the counter that it must be for me, and he replied No its not. I was surprised by how rude he was right off the bat.I told him I had a confirmation code and when I gave him my name he showed me a list of names and reservations and said The car isnt for you, your name isnt on the list., then he stared off as if I wasnt standing there. I tried to give him my confirmation number and he said I said have no car for you and continued to stare out the window. I wound up calling the toll free customer service number, and after 25 minutes of confirming my pickup and drop off locations, the operator insisted I had a car there, and asked to talk to the guy behind the counter. He refused to speak to the operator through my cellphone on speaker, and said they had to call his landline if they wanted to speak with him. As I waited on hold for the operator to call the guy behind the counter, my call got cut off, and the landline never rang. The rep behind the counter got annoyed, asked me for my confirmation number, looked it up, and said You made a reservation for 3pm. Its 4pm. I had 3 cars here at 3pm, one was yours, and I gave it away. Next time get here on time.Basically, according to the worlds worst employee, I went from not being on a reservation list for a car to being penalized for being late so he gave my car away. I had always thought if you reserve a car at 3, you start paying at 3, even if you get there at 6. Isnt how that works when you rent a car from the airport? If your flight is delayed you still have a car waiting for you? When I inquired about this with the rep, he said Thats not how it works here. First come, first served. Get here on time next time.I left the location and tried calling another customer service operator only to find out the guy at the location deleted my reservation from the system and there was no record of my reservation or my calls. To add to this mess, there were no available rentals within a 50 mile radius, so I had to drive my personal car 10 hours to NC on Saturday and drive back home on Sunday, and I was penalized $150 by the airline for canceling my flight.Clearly the employee there hates his job because as a customer service rep, he couldnt care less about the customers. I highly recommend staying far away from here. The owners of this franchise should be embarrassed.
Suzette (apparently the manage) was the rudest and most unprofessional person we’ve dealt with at any rental agency. She was hateful from the moment I walked in. When I commented on the bad smell In car I rented she said “our cars are fine” and “if you don’t like it go somewhere else”. They are the worst agency in the area. This woman really seemed to hate her job and all of her customers. She was talking badly about the previous customer when we came in. The lot is dirty and the staff is rude. Go anywhere else...
I cannot speak more highly about this rental location!!! The staff was swamped with customers but I noticed that each one was not given the “rush job” and when it was my turn Suzette was the sweetest most informed asset to this company. She knew pricing and cars at the tip of her fingers! My rental and return could not have been easier and I saved a few bucks. Thank you Lynbrook rental. Please don’t hesitate to use this location!
*** AVOID AT ALL COSTS *** The entire staff that runs this location are SCAMMERS, LIARS, CHEATERS, UNETHICAL, CRIMINAL, and RUDE. There is no possibility of having a positive experience here. I am a repeat Avis customer on a major corporate contract. I normally love Avis, but this location is like going into a battle zone. It is hard to imagine that they get away with running their business the way they do. They NEVER have the car class you reserve and they will lie or make up some story to blame you for the reason they couldnt fulfill the reservation. I have been accused of being late and therefore forfeiting my reservation just 15 minutes after the designated reservation time. I was actually YELLED AT by the man that works there for being late. Ironic because half the time you show up there there is sign on the door that reads be right back and they dont return for an hour! I have also been accused by the same man of damaging a vehicle when the supposed scratch wiped off with spit on my finger. I have been told that I will be charged $30 per gallon for gas if I return the car less than full so I returned it to JFK instead, knowing that this location would somehow find a way to charge me. They dont clean the cars so when you have to take a car filled with the last customers trash and dirt. This last time they actually told me that they intentionally do not clean the cars in the winter because it is too cold outside. NEVER EVER AGAIN will I rent from this location - such a shame because the location is so convenient.Thank goodness the management team and staff and JFK offer over-the-top customer service. They refunded me 50% of my last rental and told me they would escalate to the regional president. I would encourage anyone with similar experiences or problems to escalate as well. I cant imagine Avis wants the Rockville Centre staff representing their brand.
Absolutely the worst customer service. Upon picking up our rental, Suzette spoke ill about the previous customer with my fiance and I. She had no problem dicussing the transaction prior to ours, so unprofessional. The phone rang for our entire check in process and she did not think twice about picking it up, as a matter of fact she laughed saying Its close to closing. It seemed as if she wanted to do the bear minimal. We did not get the car we reserved orginally as well. She claimed the tank was filled when we picked it up but that was a LIE. We had her change the paperwork... but told us it wasnt a big deal.During our trip we had to extend. Trying to get in touch with a person at this location is IMPOSSIBLE. I spent 4 hrs calling and the phone call kept getting pushed to the call center and they were unable to help me with my request. I was told only this location could help me... yet they NEVER pick up their phone. Finally we called a location 2 miles away and they assisted with great ease. Upon returning the car Suzette inspected the car and insisted we had a dog or cat in the car and she would have to charge us $250 for an extra cleaning fee. We explained that we just took the car for a full detail and there was no pet hair. We explained we definitely didnt have a pet in the car she said we would be charged regardless that she wasnt going to argue but knocked the price down to $100. Not wanting to be charged we took the car OURSELVES to the gas station to vacuum whatever imaginary hairs she was seeing. She still charged us $50. She completely dismissed us as she handed us the bill. She explained that she didnt need to give us an explanation and would call the police if we did not leave the property.Suzzette IS A LIAR AND A THIEF. Avis should be ashamed of this representative.
So sad I didnt read the reviews before renting . I rented a car for 7 am confirmed . Then I get there 7:30 . She said come back at 9 . I had to take a flight and it made me spend 50$ extra on ubers and delayed flight . This place is unprofessional someone needs to fire the lady with her bad attitude. Then I looked she had like 5 vans and 3 cars . Dirty. But she should just take 30 mins more to clean , not 1 1/2 hour . Someone fire her stay away from this Avis ! Waste of time ! Im a tourist! I spend to much money to get scammed
Sketchy and unprofessional- read before renting!I tried to rent an economy car from this location a few weeks ago and was told I could have one of the two Crown Victorias on the lot. This hardly being an economy car and me being a petite woman I had to refuse the huge vehicle for safety reasons and the woman at the counter didnt mind the inconvenience one bit. Even though it was not the only car on the lot or Avis location in the area, she said there was nothing she could do and sent me off without a car.Much to my disappointment my company rented from the same location yesterday and I thought that had to be a fluke and give them another shot.I should have gone with my instinct, this time was far worse.First I was met with a be back in 15mins sign with an employees phone number on it. I hesitated to call but after 20 minutes I did and the gentleman told me he would be back in 10. After some time he finally returned a line had formed and he was clearly upset he would have to help us all.After making a rude comment to me about being late from my reservation, i reminded him he was just gone for 45 minutes and he argued with me that he was only gone for 10! How childish and unprofessional! Everyone on line had been waiting outside for at least a half an hour!I was then told I could have the infamous Crown Victoria. When I explained to him I couldnt accept that car he rolled his eyes and told me he had nothing else, even though again the lot was full.I thought all this was crazy enough but when he offered that same car to the lady after me she refused too and got the same treatment. I was shocked! I dont understand, what they would have given her if I originally took the car? They had to have something else available but he outright REFUSED to accommodate either of us.Even if you have to pay a few extra dollars, go somewhere else. This is a terrible service for people in need of transportation.
Got lucky: great car and experience.. reservation in this business doesn’t mean much, there is a huge disconnect with inventory. Rental folks don’t try to make experience a horrible one, it’s just demands and expectations need to be adjusted to situation, always call ahead and read fine print...
If there was a ZERO star rating available, that rating would accurately would sum up the experience we had with TROY at AVIS/BUDGET on Sunday 12-9 at 2:40pm. My brother, his wife, and my 9 month old niece flew in town for the weekend from Miami. His inbound flight was delayed and we were unable pick up his rental car at Enterprise since they closed at 1pm. We were able to book on Expedia a compact car for $40 for just one day at this location. When we walked in the rep (Troy) advised that he had no CARS except SUVS at a rate of $100. We told Troy that online there were several classes of cars available at this location and plenty of cars in the lot. If he claims that he ONLY had SUVs, then in the interest of customer service and HUMAN DECENCY perhaps he can rent us the SUV at the same rate. Well TROY went on a unprofessional rant .. WHO TOLD YOU TO BOOK ONLINE?! I HAVE NO CARS! . I told TROY that he should absolutely not be employed in customer service industry if he cannot control his temper and especially if he feels like he can YELL at customers this way. I said I am positive that Budget car rental would not appreciate having an employee talk to customers that way. TROYs response was WERE ARE INDEPENDENTLY OWNED . EXCUSE ME? I said to him the sign behind you says AVIS/BUDGET not Troys Car Rental, therefore YOU WORK for BUDGET. He said he doesnt care, that he has no cars and we need to leave. We left and I called Expedia and the rep was able to speak directly to their Budget contact and Budget advise that they reserved an intermediate car for us for $46 at the same location. I asked them to please make sure that we will have no issues with this new reservation since TROY was extremely unprofessional and adamant that he had no cars. Expedia advised that their Budget rep spoke directly to the location and our car will be waiting there as long as we get there by 3:30. I even received an email confirmation at 3:08pm directly from BUDGET, not Expedia, advising that we have a reservation for a car at $46 rate at the Sunrise Highway location in Lynbrook. We pulled into the full lot at 3:10 pm, and my entire body had not so much as stepped into the office when TROY yells out... I AM NOT RENTING YOU A CAR .. I DONT CARE WHAT THEY TOLD YOU... I said WHAT? .. He said that he spoke to his MANAGER (blatant LIE) and that he told him that we cursed at him (?????) when we came in the first time and that he will NOT rent us a car. I have worked in the customer service industry for over 30 years and I would not to curse at anyone no matter how rude and belligerent the behave. His complete lack of professionalism was NOT warranted and there was nothing that we did that would justify him refusing to rent us a car we reserved on Expedia and the subsequent car BUDGET reserved for us. I was calling and calling the manager (since the managers business card was on the desk), but there was no answer and the mailbox was full. We had enough... we left and decided that the best route would be to contact Budget directly and file a complaint (which we did via Facebook).All my years of renting cars and I have NEVER had this type of experience and based on the other reviews, this particular location has a history of problems with customer service, a few are specifically about TROY! (and he remains employed here????) .I hope that upper management reads these reviews and reevaluate the way that this location does business. I will NEVER use Budget again and thank goodness that there are so many other options of car rental companies that actually care about customers.
Total joke.... I thought the previous reviews may have been exaggerated but I went today to pick up my car which I had a reservation for, and was told their was no cars. One of the workers as soon as I exited my friends car told me don’t let them leave you before I even stepped to the desk. No call to prevent me from wasting time not an attempt to correct the situation since it’s a problem they caused! Never again horrible horrible management.
Rented a minivan this weekend to move around some luggage. Picked up the van with seats up, returned it with seats down. When we returned the vehicle the manager at the Lynbrook office insisted we had pets in the car (WE DID NOT!) and charged us a cleaning fee even after we assured them we had no pets of any sort in the car. Suggested that perhaps the previous renter had a pet but wasnt detected since the seats were up when we got it. We reiterated that we had no pets again but wouldnt listen to us. So much for the customer always being right. NOT AT AVIS LYNBROOK!
As usual , Suzette from the Avis rent a car at 55 sunrise hwy . is Pleasant , professional and very efficient . Suzzette is a customer service expert at every level and makes renting from Avis in lynbrook a great experience. The cars are always clean and in great condition .
There does not seem to be a lot of effort to have the cars cleaned so that customers feel comfortable (I spray & wipe down any car I get, though I would do that anyway) The location (Lynbrook-Rockville center is not very customer appealing in terms of cleanliness and curb-appeal for lack of a better term. The car that I picked up this weekend had a nail in the tire, which I didnt know until I went to get in the next morning and decided to check the tires because the day before the low pressure indicator was on. More attention needs to be paid to maintenance of the vehicles.
Horrible customer service from the woman that works here. This location gets so many complaints (see Yelp also) that its a wonder that this company who typically prides itself on good service continues to let this location tarnish its brand. Rude, unprofessional and cars are hit and miss.
Suzette is very ignorant. The establishment is extremely unprofessional. They will not work with you to make the experience seem fair, they will make up fees to add to your original balance. Belitting experience by Adults with a combative ora. Be ready to call your bank and report the improper tansaction. Suzette was asked for the balance before i paid and literally said the balance is given after you pay that she couldnt see it until after payment. I knew that is not how business is conducted but I continued with the transaction because as i was trying to help her realize i am paying without knowing how much im being charged she claims she felt “i was attacking her” great! Just charge me & let me be on my way smh.
Absolute rip off. Tried to make us pay $250 for minimal sand on the floor. Then tried to charge us $40 for an extra hour of time even though we were there an hour EARLY but the moron behind the desk was taking his sweet time. This idiot, named TROY, was trying to rip off EVERY PERSON IN THE PLACE. We will NEVER USE THEM AGAIN and highly recommend no one else uses them either. STAY AWAY!!!!!
Worst place would never rent a vehicle from this place again.. Guy wanted to charge me $25 dollars just for a gallon of gas missing saying it should of been full when you returned the car and he gave it to me with a little over half a tank ..I recommend no one to use this place and if you do record everything before leaving the lot

2021-09-03Avis used to be the leading company in rentals. Most of the rental office seem rundown and very dirty, during the age of covid this is very scary. The cleaning of the cars are always rushed, therefore leaving the impression that they are halfed clean. It is very annoying to have pre-reservations and half to contantly wait for ONE person to check you in, then run out to half clean the cars. And the rental prices have gone through the roof. I understand inflation but you used to run in and be able to get great weekend deals! To spend hundreds of dollars with declined service is very disappointing to say the least.

2021-08-08I booked through Expedia for a Premium version SUV for my trip. Two days prior, I received a confirmation about my vehicle and it was ready to go. I went to pick up the vehicle the day of , the vehicle was not available. Instead I received a van. Would not recommend this place !

2018-08-24I have been renting cars for the last 10 + years and this is by far the worst experience I have had. I made a reservation a few weeks prior to my trip. When I got to the location, I was told that there was only one car available in the size that I reserved. Even though the car was classed as a mid size suburban, it was similar to a COMPACT car. I couldnt even fit my family in the two back seats. the worker informed me to call customer service once I returned the car. After I returned the car, the manager was there so I figured I would get better service - WRONG! She was so rude and disrespectful to me. She told me that there was nothing that could be done.She also informed me that there have been so many canceled flights and parents taking kids to college, so there werent enough cars. So then I asked her what is the sense of making a reservation online if youre saying that a car will not be reserved for me ???? She informed me that nothing can be done and asked me to leave the property. Avis/Budget, you have lost a customer !

2021-07-25The car I was given smelt like cigarettes, I had to buy febreeze and spray the car so I coukd tolerare driving without putting the windows down. The car looked like it hadnt been vaccumed in some time and there was a dirty sock in the glove box

2019-03-17I rented a car from this location on Saturday, March 16, 2019 my experience was pleasant. When I arrived at 10:50am for an 11am reservation the car I reserved was getting detailed (washed and vaccumed). I patiently waited and received the car in immaculate condition. Upon returning the car my experience was equally as pleasant professional and quick. The staff at this location were very kind.

2020-09-04I was very happy with the service. My only frustration was I had an upgrade code and the location didnt see the upgrade when I checked in. This is the second time this has occurred. My issue isnt with the location but why is it when I book online and add an upgrade code, when I pick up the vehicle, they dont see the upgrade on the reservation? I left Enterprise to go to Avis and its very frustrating. Thank you

2018-06-21Worst experience ever. I will never rent from Avis or Hertz again. First time I had a reservation for the weekend and when I arrived their parking lot was EMPTY. Not one single car on the lot. I was told that they had no cars and that they did not know if and when they would show up. Was told that it was up to me to call other locations to see if other locations had cars. Called all locations in Long Island and was literally laughed at at every location. Had to rent from another company. I decided to try again to rent from this place a week later, prepaid figure that it would help. Went to pick car, this time there were cars at in the lot. Waited 30 min to be told that my car was not there. Same thing o dont know when or if its coming in or not. There was no apology no empathy. It was like I was making them work. Not even an offer to upgrade for any cars. Just sorry your car is not here....It makes no sense to me on how your run your business. You need to close up shop and retrain your entire staff fleet.. Im surprised that you guys can even run this company

2014-12-10I have rented from this particular location well over 6 or 7 times in the past month. they are always professional with me and have always treated me with respect and dignity. Troy and his team are hard working and go above and beyond to make sure that my car is ready in a timely fashion and everything is in order. I would highly recommend them. I dont remember the girls names at this location but both women who work behind the counter are awesome as well. My experience at Avis Lynbrook is fantastic each and every time.
