Excellent service with Dawnette. She was very friendly and accommodating. The car was also very nice and well kept (a few scratches and dings, but these were noted as preexisting before I even sat in the car). The only reason I did not give 5 stars is because of the etoll policy. It was a little confusing for me as I am used to other rentals that just have the ezpass and there is no need for additional thought or fee. I had to switch cars so I could have an ezpass. Not a huge deal, but could be something that is there regardless if the customer goes through a toll or not.
Absolutely bad experience returning the car on Monday mornings, almost every return it happens. There is a person Sophie who is a nightmare to deal with, every time I am being overcharged vs. the original reservation/contract. When asked about extra charges, the answer is always I dont know, this is the system, not me. Never says I apologize, most importantly, she is never able or never willing to fix/remove these fraudulent extra charges. Somebody needs to train her how to do her work in general because dealing and resolving problems is part of the responsibilities, and in particular she need some training/refresh on how to talk to customers properly and not being rude and with attitude like get lost, dont bother me. She also claims that she doesnt know her supervisor/branch managers name. Every other branch provides the business manager card or at least a name, except when Sophie is on duty. This is such a shame-I sometimes pay more at other companies to avoid dealing with Sophie on Monday mornings.
Loved the agent, she was sharp and wonderful and perhaps too good for that position? That said, they had one person in the place and needed 4 or 5 to handle the load. Also, they did not have the car I had reserved and that put me in a larger car but somehow, despite it not being my fault I was required to pay more? Not OK...
I would give 0 if possible. I made a reservation and it was confirmed, showed up in the morning and they had no cars. Then told me they weren’t sure when they would have cars. And then told me they couldn’t do anything, couldn’t even call around. Had zero compassion for me or the others waiting.
I reserved a car from the facility at West 43rd street, New York, NY and discovered that the facility, the date of the pick up, would be closed. I havent received any email notification from Avis about this and had to go through a whole process to reserve another car from another facility. The only option for me to have a car through the holidays was to reserve it for an extra day and I had to pay the extra day myself. After a long process, I got a case number and the agent confirmed that the amount for the extra day will be subtracted from the total cost. To my surprise, when I returned the car, I got a receipt for the full amount. Very disappointing. I would never expect this from Avis.
This location is a mess, saved only by the wonderful woman who seems to run every aspect of the operations (wish we had gotten her name) and was incredibly polite and helpful.When we got there, they didn’t have any cars in the class we had prepaid (compact SUV) and they gave us a massive minivan. When we returned the car, the parking attendant Frederick was very unpleasant. He took quite a while to do some checks on the car, couldn’t seem to figure out to turn it on, and then was yelling at us without his mask on. The helpful woman working there came and sorted it out and apologized. We hope she gets some help, it seems like she is somehow making Avis 31st St function all on her own!
Your associate Nataly from the Midtown location was beyond helpful and very nice. As we briefly talked, I could tell she was having a long and somewhat stressful day. She was completely professional and genuinely cared to ensure everything was perfect. You have a great employee working for you and should deserve constant recognition. Everything from pick up to drop off was seamless and had no issues at all.
Reserved a car same-day for 11:30 AM. Did the remote digital check-in. Arrived at the rental office at 11:20, drove off with rental at 12:20. Need I say more? In my 15 years as a NYC resident I’ve never had such an incompetent experience as I did yesterday renting a car from your company.
The lady that served me is fantastic. I believe her name is Dawnette, but I could be wrong. Anyway she is always professional and helpful. She remembered me as a frequent user and she always helps to make sure I get the best value possible. For that reason I will always go there first.
The car was clean. Exactly as promised. Excellent customer service. Dawnette at the customer service desk was very professional and enthusiastic. I was greeted with a smile and she pulled off a miracle. There were no cars left at any rental agency in NYC and she was able to help me. It is because of Dawnette and professionals like her, that I will never go elsewhere.
I got the car with empty tank. I was told that it is fault of previous client that returned without tankful. Since Avis rental is in city, they are not allowed to keep fuel to refill. Understood. I was told when I return the car with tank full, they will refund me money. I did just that as it is easy to top off tank. It took me 5 phone calls to get the refund. The refund came with a warning that in future, I should not put more gas than the level it was when renting out. BS. Bottom line, this site will give you empty tank car!!!
Wow! Im so grateful to have stumbled upon this location for my car rental needs. This location offers amazing customer service and attention to customer needs and concerns with real human detail. Their prices are competitive and fair. Vehicles are clean and impeccable. The reps at this location Camille and Xavier, have listened and attended to me so ethically and professionaly, that has convinced me that exceptional customer service still exist. I will definitely recommend Avis car rental and their Madison Square Garden location to everyone I do and dont know. Thanks.
This is the worst car rental pickup location in Manhattan. DO NOT use this location. We had an 11 AM pickup time (prepaid), arrived at 10:50 AM and did not get the car until 11:40 AM. Screwed up our entire days plans. And to top it all off, the car smelled like a mixture of a wet dog and rotten fish.And when we went back to return the car, they printed us a receipt with an extra charge of $42 for being under 25. My husbands name was on the reservation and he is 37. Beware of this scam to attempt to collect more money. Absurd when theyre already charging $200/day for a Jetta-sized car booked 3 weeks in advance.
I just need to thank you so much. When we arrived at the Penn Train Station in New York and found out that there had been a derailment all departures had been delayed. I had my 3 daughters and 3 granddaughters with me. I immediately went to your Avis facility and there was a long line. I then call your rental number and was told there was a 7 passenger van at that facility and he set me up with the rental. When I got up to the counter (April 3rd) around 10:30am your young lady handling the counter was awesome, I wish I had her name. She had a load of people to help and she never lost patience and everybody was just amazed. She was so nice, so helpful and I just hope you can figure out who this is was and compensate her accordingly. She was so busy helping everybody and she did a great job. I got my family and like she said the van was already for me and we were on our way. Thank you for making this day turn out to be a good day - a long ride home back to Virginia - but because of your company and your employees it was good. THANK YOU!!!!
I was quoted a pay now rate including taxes. I chose and paid then I got a reservation confirmation with a 10% higher rate. It keeps happening for all reservations made on Avis app. I called and was promised adjustments and credit but none happened. I have upcoming reservation same issue. And rate didn’t change between clicking button to prepay and quote. The same lower rate is still quoted for prepaid reservation when I start all over. It is a scam and I will report to consumer affairs
Lots of negative reviews, but my interaction went as smoothly as can be. From the manager to the employee who pulled the car up, everyone was helpful and friendly. Should I have a need to rent a car again while Im in NYC I wouldnt hesitate to rent from this location again.
It was the worst experience we have had with a car rental company. Unorganised and rude with no consideration for the customer. After pre booking a specific 7 seven seat car months in advance because of the amount of people and luggage, they were unable to provide it or a similar model at this rental location. Instead of bringing the car to the rental location we specified because of its ease and convenience, they made us drive to another rental location 15 minutes away to pick up the correct car. This wasted our time and was a result of their poor organisation. The other Avis rental location was just as rude and unorganised at this one. The total experience took 2 hours 30 minutes, just to hire a car with no apology or compensation offered. Don’t waste your time go to another rental company.
Absolutely the worst rental car experience ever.Please be warned that at least one employee at this station tries to rip off the customers.I booked over Orbitz a car for 3 days included salestax for 170$. The Avis employee who is working on sunday morning ignored my booking totaly. First he tried to sell me a car I did not booked and told me that is is discounted. Then I saw the Price: 370$.Next try: still not the car and not the rate I booked --- but hey I am in a hurry and just want to enjoy My Holidays - lets say okay to that. At least the car has a build in GPS and therefore it is a nicer car the employee said. The car hasnt had a build in GPS. The employee gave me than a portable GPS and told me 3!! times I will not charge you for the GPS. But hey - still he charged me 50$.My fault I signed the contract but my bigger fault was absolotely that I trusted in AVIS and the Avis employee who did everything to rip of me as the tourist who just wanted to have a great trip.Thank you Avis for this experience - since I am a sales guy,too I have plenty of experience with rental car companies all over europe and with customer service. What happend at this place is just as bad as you can treat a customer. 0/10 Points and for sure last Avis experience for me.At the retourn Station (EWR) i spoke to the Manager and he promised me that he will follow up on this Topic and will come back to me. Very nice desk clerk, confusing layout. Get ticket validated and then get out of garage in 5 minute limit. Suggest to let attendant bring up car and go over damages, etc... get yourself settled, mirrors and so on, THEN go validate to exit garage. It is a little awkward but extremely convenient to Penn Station. Nice car, I will rent from this Avis again.
Best Avis location I’ve ever consistently experienced.The lady in the mornings (forgot her name, but her hometown is Jamaica) is the most friendly agent. Xavier in the evenings is super efficient. He always has my rental record and keys ready to go before I even arrive, making the pick up process a breeze.Thanks to the team here!
Cheating!1. We prepaid a mini van included insurance, they actually gave a ford Explorer instead of 7 seats mini van. 2. Unwashed vehicle with empty tank. 3. The inspector marked empty tank level on the contact, signed. When we return the car they charged $181 because of gas. 4. They did not cooperate of investigation, manager took the contact, car was not here. 5. They still want to charge you something else rather than gas to fool you
I reserved a Full Size Car to drive to Florida and when i went to pick up, the Lady gives me a Kia K5 and acts like thats all they had.Thats NOT a FULL size car,thats more like a Corolla than a Camry and to be honest i prefer a Corolla over the K5. HORRIBLE and when i called to see if i can at least get back the difference the dude on the phone tells me its a FULL size to AVIS even tho i told him to Google it and check for himself.
We got a car with a half-full tank, but it was full on the contract. This resulted in unnecessary costs when returning the car. We got a car without an EZ-Pass box. because we didnt know what the part looked like, we only noticed it later and had to exchange the car for a philadelphia car. During the handover we were rushed to clear the car park. otherwise we might have noticed the things.
Please, stay clear of this Avis location! Why? Gave me a known defective vehicle (THAT LEFT ME STRANDED), promised a refund of about $150 on a $650 rental (I HAVE THE RECEIPT STATING SO), and still waiting (GOING ON THREE MONTHS LATER)! Here are the details.On December 21, 2016, I went to the location to pick up my vehicle. Upon getting it, the guy said that there was a tire pressure light on, but he filled up the tires, and thought it might just be the light. Shame on me for trusting this guy and leaving the location with a defective vehicle. Long story short, on December 26, 2016, when I tried to turn the car on after five days of sitting in my parents driveway, it wouldnt start. The car needed to be towed to the nearest Avis, which was 60 miles away. I had to wait for the same tow guy to bring a new vehicle to me. This delayed me 6 hours, and I ended up driving back to New York City...through the Poconos...at night...by myself...in a rainstorm...Needless to say, by the time I got back, the Avis location was closed. With a massive headache from a horrible day and a stressful drive, I opted to park the car in a garage (an added expense of $40) until the next morning.When I returned the vehicle the next morning, the lady at the desk (Dawnette maybe?) seemed sympathetic. She gave me a receipt with what I should be expecting as a result of the issues. The total amount was around $150. About $80 was taken off immediately because I hadnt yet been charged for the extra insurance. There were two more line items on my receipt: Refund - WHQ Check for $63.65 and Refund - from T/A for $6.47. A few weeks later, I received a credit for $6.47. The $63.65 has not been returned to me.I called the Avis 800 number, and the rep basically told me to go kick rocks. He said it was up to the independent location to return the remaining amount promised. I asked him what WHQ Check meant, and he said he didnt know. I called the Avis location, and again spoke with Dawnette (sorry- might have the name wrong - its been so long). She seemed apologetic and promised to call Avis to authorize the remaining amount due and that it might take a credit card cycle or two to take effect.We are well beyond that. I get it. Vehicles break down. I should not have trusted the guy and demanded a new vehicle. I am not happy with how the rest of the situation played out. I will also be filing a complaint with the BBB.
The Checkin and registration process was smooth as it was not very busy. There are limited cars at this location but it is very convenient of you are staying near Penn Station.I was offered a SUV- and that was of great help with luggage. It was a fairly new car with 4500 miles. The Ezpass machine was very convenient.
Our family had a HORRIBLE rental experience with Dollar Rent a Car which resulted in us being stranded in New York City. We went to this Avis location on 8/11/15, for assistance. We encountered a woman representative by the name of Carmen who went above an beyond to help our family reach our next vacation destination - Niagara Falls. She explained the policy of many car rental agencies in NY to do a credit check if paying with a debit card and that some varied on credit ratings which resulted in the other rental agency leaving us stranded without ANY help in NY. And although her location used the same credit check system, which had the same denied results, Carmen NEVER GAVE UP. She was so persistent and understanding of our situation, that she called around to other partner locations and spoke to the supervisor and explained our situation. She even got confirmation that the other location supervisor would personally handle our crisis to get us into a car that same day.We had NEVER encountered these rules with any car rental in the past. In conclusion, Carmen and the other female staff were able to help our situation which resulted in us getting into a rental car through a partner location, not leaving us stranded in NYC and more importantly, being able to get to our next vacation destination - Niagara Falls. We are so grateful to Carmen and the other female representative who accompanied her (regretfully, lost the sheet of paper with her name) for helping a family get out of NYC to drive to Niagara Falls.I will write to Avis corporate office to commend Carmen and the other female staff of their exemplary service to our family and being great service representatives of AVIS!
I went to Avis car rental and I was having a really bad day I was trying to get a car I met this woman named Donna she was very energetic and had a good attitude she got me in a car that I needed and she also gave me a discount I really appreciate Donna service and I think she’s a great customer service provider I would like to see her promoted or anything a pay raise she’s a great employee thank you Donna
People will make or break any business, in this case Ms Camille made my car renting experience memorable and pleasant. I came in dreading to receive the stereotypically rude New Yorker attitude but received a welcoming smile and awesome personality. Ms Camille made my day in NYC that day!
How incredibly helpful the Avis Agent was this morning at the 31st St Rental location-- The AMTRAK train service was disrupted between NYC and Washington DC--both directions--due to an accident that claimed the lives of two railway repairmen. Folk were lined up 20 to 30 deep at times---all wanting a car! She was the only agent on duty for several hours-- but she remained calm, was always professional, and answered carefully some really stupid questions by folk in line-- She was gracious but would not violate AVIS rules re: who can rent, who can pay, and who can drive-- and was consistent-Please let her know we appreciate the excellent, consistent service!
Don’t rent here! Saturday morning, line is out the door as my boyfriend waits in line. One person working the desk, no self check in kiosk. Hour and a half of my day gone. Even the employee doesn’t understand this. He says it’s an everyday occurrence. Avis fail. Back to Enterprise down the street.
The reception was vey kind. Considering that i´m tourist she give me a lot of advice for what´s need to be taking in count to avoid NY chaos :). Also, offer me a deal for a big car considering that we have several luggage. One little downside, I schedule the returt at 8:00 PM, the sucursal was closed and I need to return the card in other place with an additioal of 30 minutes of trafic.
Came here last week and the customer service was excellent from when i drove in, the security guard who goes by the name of Ozzy was really nice in assisting me on where to go and was very attentive to my needs and any questions that i had and Dawnette was exceptionally nice and informative.
They gave me a downgrade and I would have to pay $35 per day to avoid thisI tried to contact Avis by phone but got disconnected twiceI contacted them through their website email but Avis did not respondThere is no other way to contact them as far as I can seeNext time I will use Thrifty or Hertz again
The employee of this branch is a thief who says something to you and then smacks your ball for a fantastic amount! After adding clauses to the lease contract such as road risk, open miles and comprehensive insurance 3 types while the customer does not need all of this! The employees at this branch are thieves ! Be careful before you sign your rental agreement!
They treated me badly in the Manhattan office.They did not speak Spanish.My pick up time was 1pmDue to a steam explosion in the city on July 19, the police recommended me not to cross Manhattan and wait for the situation to calm down.I telephoned my Avis office next to Scuare Garden at 2pm to comment that I would be delayed in pickup on the recommendation of the police.They told me in a very unfriendly way that I lost my reservation even though the rent was paid for months.I tried to explain but I only got them to wait 30 min and for being PreferrentIf he did not arrive on time, they sent the vehicle to another office or to another client. They were short of vehicles, they only had mine and although paid they gave it to another client.I was left with no other option than taxi jams and run what I could. My family did not eat.When arriving absolute antipathy without explaining barely and saying that in New York it is like that.If he wanted another vehicle or question, it had to be at the airport.No further explanations were offered I was in a hurry and there were no more customers waiting. I do not get it.What a need to treat the customer like that.I dont know if its Avis or this offices policy.That if you are late in the collection even with just cause, you lose the reservation and the money if it is paid.I will look at it for the next times this rule that seems abusive and without shame.The super vehicle.Very attentive and correct delivery in Boston.Bad and unpleasant attention in Manhattan office 31st street that they do not wait for me any more in that office and in Avis for other cities I do not know.
Weak, because at Online Reservation despite announcement no email confirmation and on personal demand in the office snotty response received.Type with vehicle output also patzig. I was annoyed that he had to interrupt his ipad game.Vehicle inside soiled and the significant parking damage remained unmentioned.Ride and return in other station otherwise okay. Price okay.

2022-06-21I had a great experience renting from this location. I was upgraded and given a really nice vehicle, a certain German brand. Friendly staff, smooth pickup/return processes, excellent car with no issues... what more can you ask from a rental car place?

2022-06-14Didnt have my car that was booked months in advance. Ended up with a pickup truck for myself and 2 others so all of our luggage went into the bed while it was raining and got soaked. Employees would not take any accountability. I still have not received the emailed receipt or credit for overpaying days after dropoff. DO NOT RECOMMEND

2021-12-24The car was excellent, the service at the Avis office was efficient and friendly.The cost was a bit high, but I read the reviews of other rental car services, and Avis had the highest scores and best reviews. Also, holiday season tends to be busy and car rentals are not easy to find. We trusted Avis and everything worked out perfectly.

2022-06-07The staff here was friendly and very helpful. Unfortunately, the car I got was nasty. The exterior was all scratched and scuffed up, which I can ignore. But the interior was gross, with lots of stains throughout. Big spill mark on the passenger seat, etc. Probably not necessarily this specific locations fault? But Avis should have taken this car out of their system and done a deep clean.

2022-05-12Dawnette Westcarr works at the front desk at the w 31st location in NYC. I cannot say enough good things about Dawnette and the service she provides to her customers. I have never left a review anywhere for anything but had to to let everyone know what great experiences I’ve had with her each time I’ve seen her! If only every company had a Dawnette, the world would be a better place!

2021-10-17Came to pick up my scheduled rental on a weekday around 11am, no issues and left in my rental car in less than 25 minutes. I was worried about the mixed reviews but my experience was smooth (no lengthy wait, issues with the vehicle, or unexpected fees or charges). I returned the rental at Newark Airport and also had no issues there. Will use Avis again in the future.

2021-10-21The car that I got from the Avis rental shop has engine issues. The engine got too hot on the road and the car started beepping, meanwhile there were smoke kept emitting out of the front engine. We have to pull over on the side of the road. Called the car rental office they asked us to call the 24 hr road assistance. Then called road assistance which takes them 4+ hrs to contact us about who was able to come. Our whole day wasted on fixing the car issues on the road. Worst experience ever.

2021-10-10Dawnetta was super helpful with my rental pick up. The location was clean and quite easily accessible. I had grown weary of traveling to LGA to pickup a cheaper rental car. This was not that much more expensive and the ease and hours have made it a new favorite!

2021-05-08Had a good experience renting a car from Avis. We rented a full-size and got a Honda Accord Hybrid - spacious, economical, and sporty. Staff were friendly, though they tried hard to upsell me. Upon return turned out that they charged me for the full tank of gas (at the usual inflated rates), and since I returned the car full, as I said I would, I had to go to the rental counter so that they would subtract the charge for the tank of gas from my bill. The process was quick, but they shouldnt have charged me in the first place. Overall I am quite pleased.
