Avis upon pickup of rental told me I could put the hold on one card, and pay for it on a different one at drop off. This needed to be done because I was paying for the vehicle for a client that flew in. Upon arrival for drop off they charged my clients account before we even returned the car and said that the transaction was closed out. This was completely embarrassing and inconvenient.
Im an Avis preferred member for years and this was one of the worst rental experiences. Pick up was scheduled at Islip airport for Noon on 8/4. Our flight was late and at 11am I called the local Avis office at Islip several times, no one picked up and I was on hold for 20 minutes with Avis headquarters. I was told there was no problem that car would be held until 11pm. Upon arrival at Islip at 5 pm our car had been put back on lot, at least there was another car for us. Unfortunately, it took the agents 45 minutes to get the new contract ready - amazing since with Preferred the car is always ready upon arrival. I have no idea why it would take 45 minutes to set up a new contract/car. Also the agents at Islip are unfriendly and not customer service oriented. Yesterday I received a call from our drop off location Maynard looking for the car, they could not see the records that we had picked up the car late. Overall poor performance, Avis should do better, especially for long term Avis preferred customers.
This was a difficult trip for me to make. I had to attend my Mums funeral. However, it all came down to the representative that assisted me at ISP (Long Island, NY). She was an incredible agent that showed the best that AVIS had to offer. I could recommend AVIS base on her alone. Thank you for having exceptional people at your counters.
After paying full price for my car and returning it in perfect condition with a full tank of gas I was charged an additional $33 in fees that should have been included in the price of the car to begin with. I have options when searching for vehicles and dont always go with the lowest price but I do like to know what I am spending up front.
I was surprised at how lacking in customer service skills the older man at the counter was. The car, although littered with no smoking signs, disclosing the extra fee for special cleaning- absolutely reeked of stale cigarettes!! I wont really go into detail about the exterior of the car- banged up with scratches everywhere. What was really shocking was that the extreme pulling to the right in the front end. I was praying I didnt load my kid into a deathbox on wheels. Oh yeah and my asthmatic kid really appreciated what smelled like an ashtray scented air freshener hanging from the rearview.
Due to incompetence of your staff at the rental location, I was unable to obtain a receipt for this rental. Only after about 6 phone calls to your Customer Service Department, I was told I couldnt get a receipt because the Ronkonkoma people FAILED TO CLOSE OUT MY CONTRACT. I attempted to contact that location by telephone for 5 straight days -- they would NOT answer the telephone. I was a captive of your system! Finally, on the 6th day (a Saturday) an employee answered the phone at Ronkonkoma, and closed out the contract. SO FRUSTRATING!!!
I couldnt have asked for a more friendly and helpful staff then I got at Avis! From the customer service on the phone, to the wonderful staff behind the counter and the attendant who showed me how to use some of the newer features of the vehicle, I couldnt have been treated any better! This was my second time using them in a few months and they remembered me! I am extremely happy with my experience at Avis and HIGHLY RECOMMEND them to ANYONE looking for a rental! If all that wasnt enough, the pricing that I got was INCREDIBLE! Do yourself a favor and dont look any further then Avis, they will work with you!
I’ve rent 2 cars in a period of a month, it’s been great doing business with Avis , staff is very friendly and professional, prices on cars are reasonable , the best part was how fast the returning procedure was, I didn’t know about the app until the last minute of the return time, and I’m not sure if that will benefit me. I have another rental coming up, I strongly recommend Avis! I wish they give you veteran discount.
I had a late arriving flight into Islip McArthur airport so I called to make my reservation to ask if the agent would wait if my flight was delayed. I didn’t want to be stranded and I had an hour drive. I was ensured they would wait as my flight was put in the system and so was a note that I would be there by 12:30 AM. I even prepaid my car. I tried calling the site but kept getting diverted to there national line when I called to reconfirm, but was once again told that I was set and they would wait. Well guess what when I arrived the agent had already left leaving me an five other customers, who were told the same thing, stranded. I called the reservation line and was told yes the agent was supposed to wait they saw my note but there was nothing they could do. Thank God the National agent was still there. I had to rent and pay for another car which was over $100 more expensive but had no choice since I was staying an hour away with my 90 year old dad who just had surgery. I called Avis told them that I felt they should reimburse me my additional fee as well as the rental but was told they couldn’t. I normally don’t post but this was a terrible experience and either the reservation agents or the Islip agent is at fault and to leave that many customers stranded by a international company as big as Avis is disgusting. #Avis #nationalrentalcar
Business trip. Was easy, fast and friendly. Offered me free upgrade without asking. Other counters had a line, Avis had none. I was greeted and walking to my car faster than the other car rentals. I arrived at the counter after they started and walked out before they were done. The staff was very friendly picking up and when returning my car.
Lady at the counter was argumentative , rude , had no clue about anything . attempted to overcharge me $38.00. this rental was prepaid by phone . when i protested she said she would refuse to rent the car . manager intervened and said she didnt take a coupon into consideration and printed a new invoice w correct amount w/o apologizing . car was damaged and dirty and took more time for lot attendant to note damage on invoice .stink company!
Arrived late at night and easily picked an upgrade from intermediate (Corolla) to standard elite SUV (Ford explorer loaded with features) through the Avis app after landing and the rental docs with the keys were waiting at the counter. Pickup was a breeze and returning at 4am was fine also just had to park in any spot and use the key drop!
Totally rippedoff. Asked orally f i wanted any extra insurance and i said no. I prepaid and wanted no extras. They then printed up a paper and told me to intial in all boxes especially saying i declined all insurance . I quickly initialed without my reading glasses on and picked up car. When i brought the car back they said an extra 100 dollars would be charged for insurance i declined . When they showed me my bill when i had my glasses on un the middle of the declines was 1 line that said accept loss waiver. When i told them i declined all they said i initialed for it and nothing they could do . I feel i was totally taken advantage of and this was a cery shady if not illegal way to get scammed extra money. I will bever deal with Avis again and will tell everyone including reviews on yelp and tripadvisor what a terrible experience this was
I had an early flight out of LGA and There was NO Shuttle.... I had to get an uber at My expense or miss the flight and walk outside in a dangerous neighborhood with 3 bags of luggage... Islip was great and Verizon My Company Rents a ton of cars from AVIS and seeing the other rental shuttles go by was just a slap in the face....
I gave 4 stars, the last having to do with facility restrictions having no bearing on service. I came home due to a death in the family, needed a rental quickly within budget and Avis and the staff at this location came tru with true service and value. I’ve been a National Emerald Club member some 2000, taking my business with me during ALL business and personal needs; when I needed a break from them they refused and treated me very poorly. Avis will get my business from now on.The one star I held back is due to the facility. The lot is open and vulnerable to inclement and COLD weather. Dragging bags behind, this made pickup and drop off uncomfortable due to the extreme cold of late January in LI. If this were to be corrected, Avis at this location would be A+. This coming from someone used to picking any vehicle from the Emerald lane, bypassing the counter and on my way in a flash. Kiss my arse National, loyalty deserves GREAT customer service and Avis outperformed you with no previous history whatsoever.
Horrible experience. Ones you arrive they hit you with all this extra charges that more than double what you book online .They spect you to have a coverage in your insurance from 100.000 to 300.000 if you dont they charge two insurance one with collision its $9 dollar a day, and the other its 29$ per day. And it was more charges that they dont have good explanation for. I dont recommend this place at all . My first and last time with this company.
After an awful experience at the JFK Avis I wasnt too hopeful for dropping off the rental at MacArthur. Called in because I was confused on where the drop-off port was and spoke with John. Not only was he super helpful but his patience and directions were great. Thanks again for the great customer service if youre reading this, John!!
Ive always had a great experience with this location. Ive rented 12 times in a year and every visit gets better. The staff is always friendly and cooperative. They always give me the best deals and leave me with satisfaction. Just go online to the website and pick what you want with whichever add-ons youd like. Its not hard at all, then call the avis line and book over phone for ease and comfort.
Horrible! It took over a half hour to get the car. The lady told me a different total then it really was. Then to top it all off I paid almost as much for the car as I did in gas for returning it in the middle of the night when I couldnt find gas. When I offered to pay for the gas they told me no. I paid $115 for gas in the car I filled up for $20. Will NEVER rent from them again.
The gentalman at the avis counter helped me very well. But the lady at the lady at the Budget counter was very rude and unprofessional on the phone. You should rethink having her greet people at the airportSmh .... she made me want to cancel my reservation, and try enterprise.

2022-05-11The car given to me was never cleaned. French fries on the floors, dirty windows - so dirty I needed to clean them at night, I couldn’t see. The outside was filthy, I brought it to a car wash. There was no way anyone cleaned this car and certainly did not sanitize anything - considering Covid is still around, that was not very comforting - In addition the online system for their preferred members was not working- so I could not go direct to my car and needed to wait on line for pick up.Bad experience all around-

2022-06-10I came here to swap a car I had picked up in unacceptable condition (heavy smoke smell) and the manager refused even though they had many cars on hand he decided to hold those for reservations. Apparently existing customers have lower priority than future reservations. Avis corporate and Costco travel were useless too and had nothing constructive to offer

2022-05-22Renter beware! If I could give Avis at MacArthur Airport 0 stars I would. I travel a lot and use multiple rent a car companies. I reserved 2 12 passenger vans months in advance of a group trip. We showed up to pick up the vans to find out they only had 1 van. There response was ‘oops sorry’. No one cared. No one tried to help until I showed my disgust. No manager came over. Absolutely unacceptable. The van that we did get was dirty, scratched and dented all over. I would never use them again.

2022-05-28Avis does NOT try harder. I rented a car at islip airport. The next morning at my hotel in plainview, the FOB was dead and could not access or start the car. When I called customer service, they suggested I go to Walgreens or Walmart for a FOB. I reminded the person that I’d need to drive to get there and if I could do that, I would be in the car and driving. Realizing the depths of the situation, I the person suggested that she said an Uber to take me back to islip and retrieve another car. I waited 15 minutes for an Uber that never showed up. I called an Uber and paid $75 to get back to islip and finally got a car. The people at the desk were super helpful so that was a very POSITIVE experience. Overall though, Avis needs to TRY HARDER. I was extremely disappointed. I ended up having to cancel lunch with a friend I hadn’t seen in 2 years so to this disaster of an experience.

2022-01-19The rental i wanted wasnt available one of the two that was available the directionals werent working and the rental that they gave me was a 2019 express van that in my opinion was not clean on the inside. My passengers in the back seats were bouncing around like Ping pong balls. The windshield wiper were bad and i had a hard time seeing out them. The side door wouldnt close properly. Im not the type to complain but i wasnt happy with this rental at all.

2021-06-28Reservation smooth, Pick Up long wait, Vehicle Return was an experience in itself... The employee was not at the counter, she was in the back; fine, she received the information on the vehicle, mileage, parking and full tank of gas. She told us she would enter once she was done with her coffee, and she then wanted a 10 on the survey. We may have actually given a decent 10; however we brought the car back on Friday; and today is Monday we have a $1700 charge on our credit card because she did NOT return the car in the software. We have to wait for the claim to be investigated for funds to be returned and go through lost prevention. This has been a nightmare of a Monday, bounced around with Avis reps due to lack of employee importance.

2021-09-13Very easy pick up and return. Got a free upgrade to an SUV and the car was spotless and fun to drive. The best part is the pick up/drop off counter is right near the baggage claim. So convenient.

2021-11-09If i could give no stars, i would!! Absolutely the worst company to deal with! Upon booking the car rental we discussed with an agent the process and rules behind the payment of the car. We were informed it would be a $150 hold that needed to be on a credit card, the rental of the car could be paid cash or debit, which worked out perfect for me, when i arrived to this location, on Saturday at 4:30, the lights to Avis were on but no one was at the desk, no one said anything while i stood there for 15 minutes waiting for an employee to come back. Budget Nextdoor actually checked me out and informed me that the payment arrangement previously discussed is false information, he said the entire fee needed to go on one credit card, unfortunately i do not have that much money available on my credit card, they said i don’t know who would tell you that, but we will not honor it, the following evening my brother had an allergic reaction at 11:00 pm and i went to grab him meds from the store and the car would no turn on. The key would not turn in the ignition!! The car would not turn on for 30Minutes. I spent the entire following day trying to get in touch with Avis,All of the operators and supervisors ( at least 15 people that i spoke to) could not answer basic questions, they kept rerouting me to the Avis desk at the airport,I called and called but no one answered the phone, i called the budget desk Nextdoor and no one answered the phone, between myself and my sisters we called over 45 times. They said they are open till 11 and we called all the way up to the last minute and no one picked up. The airport is over an hour away, and still have no resolved anything,I’m in town for a funeral and do not have the availability to drive over an hour away to deal with the people at the desk, how can they not answer the phone when the contract says if you need more time or have issues make sure you call us, but they don’t pick up.I had them tow the car at 11pm and wanted to make sure i would not be charged for the extra day i do not have the car.The tow truck did not show up till 330 in the morning.The company makes you do a song and dance. I will never ever ever rent with Avis again. I will report them to the BBB for their lack of professionalism and the way the misinform their customers.If your on the fence about your rental…. Walk or take Uber, or will save 10 years on your life from all thr BS you will be avoiding.
