Azalea in other cities:
Solid food in beautiful room with vast windows to the street. Ended up being a perfect unplanned last minute pre theatre dine. Located a block from the Winter Garden. No muss or fuss. Just great food and service in the theatre district. If youre planning last minute pre theatre and they are open just book it.
26.06.2018 On our last night in New York we wanted something good to end off with. I even went to the point of asking a few NYPD officers whats their favourite spot near Times Square as i heard them telling some other visitors not to try the Sushi place next to where they were standing as its too expensive. Then i remembered a suggestion given to us by a friend, of an Italian spot near the theatre district. Now to find it with NO GPS signal and no one seems to know of it that we asked. A few blocks later we arrived. Very quiet, as most of the patrons that come here were inside the theatre so getting a seat was easy. Friendly staff, showed us to our seat. The menu is rather limited but has some of your Italian Favourites. My friend had the Minestrone Soup, and i took the Fried Calamari with Garlic Aioli. OH MY SOUL was that Calamari delicious. Crispy fried, yet so tender you could easily bite into it and it wasnt chewy. The batter was tasty, and combined with some lemon juice and their Aioli - absolute winner. My friend thoroughly enjoyed her soup too she said it was one of the best she has had.For mains we both opted for the Crab and Avocado Salad (very healthy for NYC i know)Amazing. Everything cooked to perfection. Fantastic portion sizes. Definitely a memorable dinner to leave a whirlwind 3 days trip in New York.Would definitely recommend it.#TheFoodMusketeer#TheFoodMusketeerEats#TheFoodMusketeerTravels#TFMTakesNewYork#TFMAzalea
This hidden gem is a regular for me on many trips through NYC. Great atmosphere, high ceilings, large windows, and always a few tables open it seems. Lunch menu is great as well for those in the area looking for a good meal during the day. Excellent prices; glass 9f wine, salad, and main course for around $50 per person. Small bar for the solo traveler if you like as well. Highly recommend the butternut ravioli or lasagna.
Had a nice pre-show dinner here. Wine was nothing special, but the food had great flavor. The meal started with a basket of bread which is always appreciated. Then we split bruschetta. For the entree, I got the Gnocchi Alla Sorrentina - yum!! Would go back here if I was looking for a theater Italian dinner.

We stumbled on this restaurant 4 years ago on a trip to Nyc. It was crowded and they graciously gave us a seat at the bar. The food was delicious! On this trip, we went back and it was so sad to see such a beautiful place empty. Our waiter, Johnny said they hope to get business back when theater returns. We were treated to a wonderful meal, beautiful surroundings and attentive service.Portions are perfect, prices are reasonable! The outdoor seating was not desirable, but inside was a wonderful experience. So glad we were able to give them business when they accommodated us that evening 4 years ago.
Perfect example of how looks can be deceiving. We walked in to an empty restaurant at 6pm in Times Square and thought we were in trouble…to the contrary. The food was excellent but the service was impeccable. Our host told us they are getting 4-5 tables a night due to the Theaters being closed, but he still comp’d us a drink as one of our 7 meals was delayed. I can’t recommend this place and it’s staff enough. Purely pleasurable experience.
The food was amazing, best chicken (named after the restaurant) dish I have ever had, great waitress who recommended not by price but by quality was appreciated. Our bill without tip was $265 but includes a bottle of wine. Well worth it. If you are going to see Wicked this is a no brainer easy... reservation are recommended.
The best thing is definitely the garlic bites they give out. you need to be careful not to eat so much of that you get filled up. its a really fun and lively atmosphere, almost gimmicky. the food is decent, altho some of the dishes are kinda weird and not made the traditional (or conventional) way. taken the dining experience as a whole, i love this place
Took my daughters to a Broadway show to see Wicked and it was conveniently right next door to the Gershwin Theater. So parking the restaurant and the theater were all kind of connected witch made it nice and easy. The service was outstanding but the food was just okay to me... but my wife and girls loved it!
Overall decent experience for a party of 6. Took one star off for a bit of confusion with the wait staff and the bar. The food came out slower than the occupancy of the restaurant would suggest. The food was good and everyone had good things to say about their dish except there was always a but. For the average dish price charged Id think twice about going back but wouldnt be upset if a friend made a reservation.
Based on reviews we thought this would be a good location for dinner before attending Wicked. We had a reservation for 6:00 and were seated promptly when we arrived. Food was honestly comparable to olive garden with outrageous NY prices. We felt very rushed to get in and get out to accommodate more people. The waiter actually took my plate within 2 seconds of setting my fork down. We were handled our check 35 minutes after being seated. My wife and I are from Florida and were taken back that we paid close to $90 for two pasta dishes, a $13 appetizer and 1 drink each. Im honestly confused at how this place rated so high. Tables are crammed together so be prepared to yell at each other to have a conversation.
Highly recommend this place! From minute u step in; sexy classy little 10-stool bar. Soaring 20 ft ceiling, so u do not feel crammed in. Food EXCELLENT; my veal chop was perfection. Service top notch; server Naz was attentive & professional. Value exceeded price, IMHO.
A small space but the food is delicious. The mushroom risotto is mixed in a cheese wheel. Yes a cheese wheel for that cheesey flavor. Once you had their risotto you will start asking other restaurants do they make their risotto in a cheese wheel. If they dont you will politely decline. I promise...
It was a spontaneous selection given its close proximity to the Neil Simon theater and price fixed lunch option. Excellent bolognese, porcini ravioli, and pistachio gelato! All of our selections were fresh and flavorful. Service was exceptional...thanks Johnny for the great experience! Highly recommend.
Always get consistently FABULOUS tasting food every time we have come here over many years. We are always celebrating a birthday or anniversary and they always do something beautiful to make you feel extra special, above and beyond their normal GREAT service from their excellent staff. Staff actually remember us even though there is long time between our visits. This year, celebrating my wifes Birthday, Giovanni made our visit WONDERFULLY SPECIAL!!! THANK YOU to all the wonderful staff there, and compliments to the chef as each of our meals were AWESOME!!!
Excellent service. The best service weve had in years of dining out all over America.Wonderful food with the emphasis on quality over quantity. (They serve a high quality reasonably sized portion instead of drowning you in mediocre fare.)I would strongly recommend this restaurant for your next special occasion.
Nice location, but food just adequate and not worth the price. My wife had lamb chops that were small and thin. Tasted all right she said (but not like the fabulous ones at Old Homestead at the Borgata). Complained to the manager who was kind enough to give us free dessert, but he explained that portions in NYC are small. That’s not been my experience, at least not this small. Would have preferred better main course though. The bread was not stale but not fresh either. Again, adequate. Drink prices were exorbitant. I’ve never paid this much for a drink of scotch anywhere (probably 3 oz, not especially large). Cocktails were equally pricy. Desserts again weren’t especially noteworthy. My wife had warm chocolate cake, where the opportunity for an OMG reaction to deep chocolate flavor is always potentially there. That mark wasn’t reached here. My apple tart was more a bread pudding consistency with apple pieces embedded inside. Adequate. The coffee was very good (finally something) and the cream was served hot, which is very sensible and I don’t know why more restaurants don’t do that. Service was good. The waiter was polite, efficient and there was no delay in delivering the food to the table.
Ridiculously Great ! I went on my birthday, Jan 5 before seeing Jersey Boys. Looking at the menu, I couldnt decide between two dishes. The waiter said why dont we split both meals and bring you half of each? Are you kidding me ??? Great food, great service!!! Going again in April...where else would YOU go ?
I went with my girls friends to the restaurant. All the dishes had huge flaws, lacked exactly what a patron orders it for. The fettuccine was watery and not smooth, the risottos were a miserable quantity for a dinner entree, the shrimp was chewy and the gnocchi was too cheesy! Such a disappointment for a huge price that too.
The mark of a great restaurant is when you forget to make a reservation and the staff goes out of their way to make your dining experience outstanding. Bravo! The food was superb, we ordered sea bass and the filet, both entrees were excellent. Flavor was perfect and plate size just right. Thanks to Mauricio and Clara for a perfect evening. Do not miss eating at this great NYC restaurant,
The martini with rosemary was delicious! Very refreshing with just the right amount of sweetness. I had the daily special risotto, which was with sweet gorgonzola, pear, and and red wine, which was also very nice. The service was excellent. As an added bonus, they were putting up adorable Christmas decorations. Highly recommend.
This place was okay not great, except for the crab salad which was perfect. I can make a better bolognese sauce then what I was served, which is sad to say, but there is a difference between delicate flavor and no flavor. The bread they served tasted like it just came out of a bag, and the tapenade in oil was meh. I definitely left feeling disappointed. 😞
While this restaurant was ideal location for the Wicked performance, from the moment I sat down the experience was disappointing. It took a while to be greated at the table, they were out of the entree I was interested in. Once I ordered I received a soufflé that was dense and under done and served with a broken sauce. The Carbonara was served with rubbery prosciutto, no flavor and a broken sauce as well. Not even the table bread was good- left you with a burnt taste in your mouth. My server was no where to be found for a refill or replacement dish. With all the positive google reviews, I was left hungry and wanting more.
We always come here when we visit Manhattan. I love the meaty and delicious Bolognese and homemade Fettuccini. On this visit my wife had spectacular rack of lamb cooked medium rare. The atmosphere is friendly and quiet if you come late as we did after 10:00pm. The intimate dining room is quite nice and the staff very helpful.
Woow! The pasta was amazing! We were in a hurry to get up to the rock, running around trying to find a great romantic restaurant - with no luck. We then decided to just take the first best and how happy we are it was this one. It was quiet, clean, great service and the pasta was totally amazing.
I got a recommendation from Sheraton Times Square for an Italian restaurant. The food is excellent and the bar tender is superb. Couldnt ask for a more professional bar tender, Victoria. If you have a chance go here and you will not be disappointed. Food is amazing. I had the lasagna.
This restaurant was highly recommended by the front desk clerk at our hotel. We were not disappointed! The service was outstanding and the food was simply delicious! My friend and I got the special which was a shrimp and gnocchi dish. It was superb! I highly recommend this restaurant and I will visit when I am in NYC again.
We and my husband Jamie celebrated our anniversary in Azalea ristorante, as soon as we walked in Martiio made us feel at home and welcomed. The service was excellent, our server who was a sweet girl from Romania was so attentive and loving towards us. Food is the star of the evening, we dined on octopus, jumbo shrimp and stuffed chicken. Absolutely recommended!
Concierge of a hotel recommended it to me, it was very noisy outside when I went because there was construction going on all around but the food was amazing and well priced for the quality and quantity, the waitress was very nice and took a group photo of us. Whenever I travel back up north to NYC I will definitely be coming here again.
Went there after the Wicked show. Staff was extremely courteous. Of course there was only one other table occupied at 10PM. Waiter made a good wine recommendation and we took his suggestion on the entree. The entree was disappointing. The ravioli, which had obviously been pre-cooked earlier in the evening, hadn’t been warmed up enough so the pasta was a bit tough. The sauce for the pasta was lukewarm was well. Desert was similar. Creme Brûlée was good, but the Tiramisu was forgettable. No espresso flavor whatsoever and extremely soggy ladyfingers again suggested a dish that has been prepared too many hours in advance. For the price I paid, I felt like there was little value here at all.
The food is some of the best in NYC & the drinks are delicious. The bartender Lorenzo knows his craft & is very friendly. The mgr Clara comes around to greet you & is always very helpful. I visit at least once a week bc I find myself craving their food. Highly recommend it!!!
The service was amazing. Had the Pre-Theater fixed price menu...food was delicious and we had plenty of time to enjoy ourselves and not feel rushed. The calamari and bruschetta were fresh and delicious and the tiramisu was the perfect finish. Side note: enter through door next to Gershwin theater as there is construction on 51st St blocking main entrance.
Based on other Google reviews, we chose Azalea due to its location and prestige; we werent disappointed. Nestled between theaters (the restaurant nearly serves as the Gershwin theaters front door), this little Italian mashup made it easy to get a same-day reservation, and did a great job moving service along, as we had tickets to a show. The wine list is lacking somewhat, but what selections they carry are solid. We started with the best item, a goat cheese and pear souflee. I highly recommend it. My fiancee enjoyed the Chicken Azalea, with an excellent and balanced blend of flavors. The chicken was cooked perfectly, but if youre not a fan of cheese, it could be a bit overwhelming. I enjoyed by veal ravioli, which, while good in itself, was merely a vehicle for a great alfredo.Desserts were good, and kudos to the restaurant for the passion fruit gelato--in my opinion, passion fruit should be a staple for summer dining. If you go, be prepared to repeat your order, as the wait staff doesnt always speak perfect English: it adds to the charm, but I imagine some diners are easily frustrated with language barriers, even in NYC.
I ordered the rigatoni bolognese and woke up in the middle of the night throwing up. I didn’t have anything to eat or drink after dinner so it had to be this meal. There’s a million Italian restaurants in Manhattan, there’s nothing special about this one, so go somewhere else — or at least avoid the bolognese sauce.
We had a party of 8 women to Azalea to celebrate my 40th Birthday. Every meal we ordered was wonderful. (and we all made sure to try a bite of each entrée!) The cocktails and wine that were recommended, as well as the cappuccinos at the end of the meal were delicious. Our service was wonderful as well. We could not have been happier with our dining experience, and would all choose to return to Azalea for another meal!
I went there right after seeing Wicked (which is amazing). Azalea is located right around the corner from Wicked and the food was delicious. I had the Calamari Fritti for an appetizer which were fried perfectly and was not chewy at all. For my entrée, I had the veal stuffed ravioli with white truffle sauce. If it has anything to do with truffles, you can count me in and this dish did not disappoint. The veal was very flavorful and the sauce was not overwhelming with truffles. It was a very good meal after an amazing show.

2022-07-04We made reservations at Azalea since it was very close to our Broadway show, and the menu looked amazing. Our show got out a bit earlier than we expected, and we were grateful that they had no problem taking us anyway. I was surprised at how quiet the restaurant was for a Saturday night, but it made for a nice dining experience for us. We enjoyed our meals of the paccheri ragu and grilled salmon, but the appetizer of beef carpaccio stuck out to me the most. It was so flavorful with the shallot and caper dressing! We were finished with our meal in just under an hour, which was nice, but the experience did feel a bit rushed. The staff was very professional, but not exactly the friendliest. Overall, a good choice when you’re in Times Square.

2022-04-03Had dinner there this past Saturday night. Host who greeted us at the door was amazingly accommodating. Very nice and personable. However our waiter was the polar opposite. He was more interested in schmoozing with people who he thought were c list celebrities at best. The food took well over 30 minutes to come and at no point during our week did he come over to check on us or to advise us that there was a holdup in the kitchen. And upon bringing us our check when I wrote zero in the spot for the tip he had the audacity to come back over and inform me that gratuity was not included in the price. So I simply said to him I know, this isnt my first rodeo I just figured youd prefer it in cash but if youd like I can put it on the card! He snapped right up when he saw the wad of 50s 20s and hundreds that I was holding in my hand. Unfortunately he didnt get any if that. I tipped him the bare minimum and gave what would have been the rest of his tip to the host. Of all the places in New York City I probably wouldnt visit this one again just because of the experience he allowed me to have. Best thing about it was how close it was to where we were going after.

2022-02-22Great location if you are going to Wicked and want to keep an eye on the line to get in. The atmosphere is nice, good for a date night, and the service was good. My complaint would be the food. It is good, but not worth the price. In my opinion, you can get this meal at any chain Italian restaurant in America... so considering the quality of food you typically find in New York, this was a let down.

2022-06-11Wish there was a 2 1/2. Have them the benefit of the doubt for good service. Very limited menu. The chicken schnitzel was tasty but the chicken mornay was so-so. The spinach was kind of tasteless. We sat outside and the street noise was not a plus. They were emptying out the garbage from the building next store into a huge waste disposal truck. Not exactly an ambience enhancer. It was very convenient to get to the theater from there. Service was very good. Still pricey for what was their very limited menu. Would NOT recommend.

2022-05-27Most of the food was bland and all of it was unimpressive and too pricey for that reason. The Linguine Vongole and the Gnocchi were both incredibly bland and lacking on salt. The former had no garlic as well. The mushroom risotto was too oily and liquidy. The Caesar salad was okay but lacking in flavor, while the burrata was decent. I would give it 2.5 stars if possible.

2020-01-19Excellent food, artfully presented. Top notch service. My water glass was never empty. Pear and endive salad was one of the best salads Ive ever had. Gnocchi and Chicken Azalea were outstanding. The Apple honey cake we had for dessert was like warm, soft bread pudding. Highly recommend.
