Amazing Experience, Food, Service and Decor. Yet again a banger from @chefanand. Kudos to your dedication, innovation and culinary excellence. Must try items include Kali Kachori, Chicken Cafreal (served on fire burning coal), LAMB RIBS, Shrimp, Fish ... Pretty much everything on the menu.Highly Recommend ... 5 Starts ...
It was a really nice experience. The non veg food was very delicious and flavourful. The Chicken cafreal Is a must try. The vegetarian food is alright . The butternut squash is definitely a must try. All in all a very good experience. Could work on their vegetarian dishes to enhance some flavors
We had such a wonderful experience at Baazi this past Saturday! Everything was just perfect from the warm and sweet welcoming at the door by GM Abla and stuff, to the beautifully Mediterranean/Indian looking atmosphere; it’s a mix of cozy and elegant! We took some great pics by the flower corner!Of course the food was heavenly delicious as expected from Chef Anand; we shared few dishes to taste this new menu because we had a hard time choosing ;) I loved his new take on some traditional Indian dishes like butter chicken or the Lamb beryani! The new recipes taste kind of a fusion between India/Asian/Mediterranean; it felt like an amazing travel journey of flavors! it’s hard to pic a favorite but if I was forced to pic only one dish; it has to be the lamb ribs; OMG; they tasted amazingly out of this world!!! So overall experience was Top notch!! And we will be back soon 👏
Food is ok. but the overall experience doesnt make it worth $$.Very poorly managedIt gets too crowded in front with all pickup deliveries, and people are waiting for the table.Panner ke sholey was good.Kali kachori was ok.Saag panner was too salty and the panner dilnaz main dish was too sweet.Lemon rice too dry not warm enough too.Dal tadka was good.Crispy okra was okMakhan malia was just whipped cream no flavor. We are been to other restaurants by chef Gaurav Anand Bhatti Indian Grill, Moti Mahal Delux.Any day we still prefer Moti Mahal Delux
My wife and I tried Baazi last night and we absolutely enjoyed our experience at Chef Gaurav Anands new restaurant. All the dishes we tried were delicious and creative, and some of our favorites were the Paneer Ke Sholey, Baazi Gobi (the sauce in this dish is phenomenal), Kasoori Methi Chicken Tikka, Butternut Squash Kofta, and the Jalebi Sandwich. Also, the staff were attentive to any questions and requests we had. Needless to say, Chef Gaurav Anand, Abla, and the Baazi staff nailed it. Highly recommend.
Im not huge on modern Indian cuisine (as someone of south Asian descent) because I feel like its a hit or miss. But, this place seriously executed. Their dishes were a unique twist on Indian food and actually balanced the authentic flavor with the different spin. For example, I would never have thought to try a jalebi sandwich - but it was addictingly good. Their lamb and biryani were also delicious - but my favorite had to be the paneer Tikka BBQ and Gobi.
Having heard a lot about this place, we finally decided to pull the trigger and went for dinner. We made a reservation through resy and got there on time. First impression, the vibe of the place is a let down as its nowhere close to the pics on Instagram as we felt it was not upscale by any means. We asked if we can be seated upstairs but the hostess said its closed which wasnt true as we noticed people being seated upstairs. The front of the lobby was cramped and people constantly rammed into my chair which was annoying af. The restroom was so dirty. We ordered a couple of cocktails, Indian summer and Virgin mojito. Cocktails were not worth $14 as they were weak and werent appealing. We ordered a ton of food from Paneer, Gobi appetizers to paneer curry($22), amma biryani ($22), naan, kulcha. Apps were really good, paneer curry was sweet and had a banana smell to it but biryani was great. IMO there are far better places in NYC given the price point.
The worst experience and restaurant in NYC. We booked a reservation to celebrate our special day for Awadh after seeing its Menu. When we reached there we came to know Awadh is closed and there is a new menu. The Baazi management did not mention it during our booking.1. They got our order wrong multiple times. We are vegetarian by religion. They served us meat. They did not apologize.2. Their service was very sloppy. We were there 2.5 hours, waiting 45 minutes for appetizers and then entre. Did not had patience to go for dessert after this.3. The taste of our entre dishes was similar, same gravy. They did not bring one dish to the table we ordered. We wanted our day to be special and it turned out to be worst experience. Please do not go there. I would have given 0 rating if I could. Angry and sad.
Delicious Indian food. Got the paneer and chaat appetizers and they were good followed by the Biryani and Chicken Sirka which we’re both fantastic. The food is aptly complemented by the warm and friendly service. Special thanks to Jovi Fernandes for his special attention.
Nope. I will not be going here again and I wont recommend it. Appetizers were a complete RIP OFF and the server (a tattooed guy) seemed to be out of his senses. Ordered few appetizers and a biriyani. The server pushed us to order more and went to the extent of asking if we want biriyani for appetizers as well (?). For the price listed, a customer expects more in terms of service.
Never coming here again. Awadh was amazing but the vibe and food now do not compare. Apparently, there was a food scientist who created the sauce for the Gobi appetizerbut it tastes very standard. The Punjabi kadi was tasteless. If you really want to something creative and tasty with excellent service, you should go to a place like Dhamaka. I’d choose Dhamaka over this any day.
Appetizers are just absolutely delicious! The we all found main course very sweet! We have had original chettinad food and it certainly is not sweet neither is North Indian food. But that being said I would go again for appetizers for sure! Ghobi was superbly crispy! Shakkakandi chaat nicely presented and I would highly recommend kali kachori!
Went looking for Awadh, and was sad to see it’s no more, especially since we were in the mood for a specific dish which is not on the new menu. The food was delicious and the staff was pleasant. We did have to cut our dinner short though because my teenage daughter was feeling uncomfortable by the way the waiter and bartender kept talking and looking over at us making it very obvious that we were the topic of conversation.
Baazi is one of the best Indian restaurants in NYC!! The food is AMAZING; every dish is full of flavor, has impeccable presentation, and is very unique. the restaurants décor is absolutely gorgeous, and the ambience is perfect for both a romantic date night or a fun night out with a group of friends. Baazi is not to be missed, and I could not recommend it more!I would especially recommend ordering the Imli Glazed Lamb Ribs, Kasoori Methi Chicken Tikka (comes with the coolest flambé youve ever seen!!), and Butternut Squash Kofta (so unique and so delicious!)
Somethings gone wrong. Baazis predecessor (Awadh) could be relied on for upscale Indian cuisine. Last night, Baazi fell way short of the mark when we ordered in.The baby whole eggplant (Bharwan Baingan) looked like a shadow of its former rendition. Gone the vibrant flavors and bright re-orange rich sauce. This version looked tired -- as if it had been cooked a while ago and reheated multiple times. Our order for Methi Malai Mater (peas in a cream sauce) didnt appear. In its place came Paneer Tikka Masala, tasty enough grilled cottage cheese cubes in a creamy tomato sauce that was overladen with oil (as if the cream wasnt rich enough). The Subs Biryani (vegetable) lacked an interesting array of bright and vibrant vegetables. To Baazis credit, the crispy okra appetizer and cauliflower kulcha were excellent.Final comment. Why is the Awadh website still up, when one for Baazi also exists? If one is going to rebrand, do so completely - take down the Awadh website (especially since the name is no longer in the restaurant signage.
Were vegetarian...tried nearly all the appetizers (all fantastic) and then punjabi kadhi (never seen before on a menu) and the butternut squash koftas which were both fabulous. Chef GA and his Team nailed the presentation, taste, and experience every time. Well be coming back for sure!
A wonderful experience. This was a birthday dinner, reprising the extremely memorable birthday dinner we had there two years ago. Innovative menu; spectacular execution. The biryani was unequivocally the best Ive ever had. And it was not even the star of the show -- the methi (fenugreek) chicken starter was the standout -- we ordered a second one for the main course. It was very busy on this evening -- and its easy to see why. Cant wait to go again. Also -- new decor is great.
We were a group of four and had a lovely meal at Baazi. Highly recommend all the vegetarian appetizers, but especially the Paneer Ke Sholay and the Cumin Potato (sides). The entrees were tasty but a bit underwhelming given how great the appetizers were. We got the Butternut Squash Kofta, the Paneer Dilnaaz and the Butter Kalaan. They were all interesting flavor wise and worth trying for sure. Our cocktails were strong and the indian-ish ingredients were a good addition. Unfortunately the Rose Makhan Kulfi was unavailable but the Jalebi Sandwich with the Masala Tea ice cream was exceptional! Definitely worth a trip to the UWS but can be an expensive night out.
Still feels new and they have a few service kinks to work out, but the food was fabulous and the space is beautiful and cozy. Good for a couple or a small group. Grabbed a bottle of refreshing cava, which paired great with the whole meal. Had the ghost pepper chicken app and papadam charcoal dumpling chaat-like app. For our main, did the paneer stuffed with cheese app and the beghan bharta eggplant (loved the peanut butter(?) that made the sauce beautifully rich). Skipped rice and went with roti. We (2 of us) were perfectly full after having little to eat all day. Cannot wait for my next meal there!
Baazi is an epitome of culinary experience . CGA at his best. What a ReBoot. The menu is so refreshing and for a change we see some great culinary jewels from India than the cliche Butter Chickens/ Daals.CGA has truly set an example of a true fusion of domestic lands and cultures which very few chefs in the world can achieve.
Only tried apps and dessert. Apps were reasonably good - chicken tikka kebab was moist seasoned well and grilled to perfection (5/5); the gobi was crispy and could have been a bit more flavorful (4/5), the black kachori was just okay (3/5) and the papdi chat with dahi bhalla was an interesting mix of textures and flavors (4/5).Didn’t care for the jalebi ice cream as jalebi was dry (2/5).My main issue was how uncomfortably cold the restaurant was. We got seated right by the door and it seemed that the central heating wasn’t working. The space heater didn’t do much as most people still kept their winter jackets on.Food is good but falls a bit flat on flavors. Nothing incredible. Ambience was straight up uncomfortable. Service was average. Nothing special but for the lovely decor. Music was a total miss also as it seemed to jump from electronic to middle eastern to nothing for a while when the iPad battery died.

2022-05-22What an amazing experience, from the decor and especially the food. They put a twist on traditional Indian dishes. Our waitress Mila was exceptional. She was very attentive and gave great recommendations. Fatima, the manager, was great, she came by a few times to make sure everything was going well. Definitely recommend!

2022-05-23Baazi is a cute, intimate Indian restaurant on the upper west side. All the food was delicious and presentation was as good as social media made it seem. I really liked the butternut squash kofta and chicken sirka pyaz as part of our entree dishes. Their cocktails were unique and equally good.Cons- The restaurant was slightly understaffed- naan or rice is not included with entree, it’s an added cost- ambience was thrown off by playing American rap/hip-hop musicConclusion: I will be coming back and start ordering take out.

2022-06-20Delicious food. Highlight was the cauliflower and the butter squash kofta. Somewhat spotty service but they seem to be extremely understaffed. The outdoor dining shed was quite nice; mostly enclosed but open facing the sidewalk and I could feel the breeze.

2022-01-18Gaurav Anands new restaurant is definitely a hit! Remodeled from where the prior restaurant - Awadh used to be. He is a well known Indian chef and he showcases his talent with the dishes he makes. Each one is more delicious than the last and the presentation is unique and fun for all the dishes as well. I am vegetarian and ordered almost all the vegetarian apps and All my great. I would rank from least to best - kachori, cauliflower, kebab, paneer (comes on fire!).The entrees - butternut squash kofta was smooth as silk. The khadhi entree was something my mom makes at home and Ive never seen it on an actual menu at a restaurant before. Dare I say, this dish at the restaurant was better than my mom makes haha. And the dessert was so great also - we got the jalebi. Took some time for it to come it bc they make it hot and fresh.

2022-02-23Baazi is the new Indian restaurant at the former home of Awadh, which I considered the best restaurant on the Upper West Side (not just best Indian joint). Same star chef (Gaurav Anand), but new menu, new cuisine, new branding. Everything looks and tastes delicious. Even their outdoor kiosk is designed better than almost any in the city). We loved everything we tried and will be back soon. Yaaaaay!

2022-01-18WOW! This place is absolutely phenomenal! The food, music, decor, ambiance, it literally has everything you need for a perfect night out. Prices are incredibly reasonable and the food is extraordinary! I took my mom and husband here (tough critics) and they cannot stop raving about the quality of the food and service. Highly recommend!

2022-01-17I came in this place with such anticipation and high hopes! I was sat at the bar as I was dining solo which is something I’m quite in favor of but tonight it turned out to not be in my favor. I was between who appeared to be the owner/manager as he tried to wow a few people and he drank heavily and the service area of the bar. Despite being between so many people I was constantly ignored. Almost 30 minutes before placing my order. I ordered 2 appetizers, 2 main courses and 3 sides. I never received one of my appetizers despite asking 6-7 times for it. I will say I did enjoy the food but the lack of any kind of service completely ruined my experience. This lady (who seemed to be the service manager) took my food to put in containers to take home discarded my leftover Nihari which had half of it leftover. I wanted dessert too but was never offered anything and after just trying to resolve my leftovers being thrown away and still not receiving one of my appetizers I just wanted to leave. I got the bill which still was charging me for the appetizer I never received and the Nihari. It then took what seemed like forever to get my check corrected and pay out. It took nearly as much effort to retrieve my jacket from the coat check. I was prepared to drop $200 on my meal but after this experience, dropping still well over $100 seemed too much. I’ve been in the service industry for over 30 years and I’m forgiving to a fault. I travel the world for good food and even though this is just down from my apartment it won’t be on my return list. Sad indeed!!

2022-03-13We had dinner here to celebrate a friend’s birthday, and we were incredibly disappointed by the service. From the moment we were seated, we were made to wait for 15 minutes before anyone handed us the menu; after that, it took another 20 minutes before anyone deigned to take our order. We waited for about 30 minutes after our order had been taken—and well after all the tables around us, who had arrived after us, had received their orders—before the first dish arrived. The manager, Abla, was incredibly rude to our party, and was of little help in sorting out our issues; our server, Fatima, was perhaps the highlight of our night, as she was incredibly friendly and attempted to help rectify our problems. When the food finally arrived, it turned out that they had forgotten to place the order for one of the dishes we wanted; another round of confusion ensued. By the end of the night, we were so appalled by the service we received that we couldn’t wait to leave. If Awadh, the previous incarnation of this restaurant, had attempted to embody Mughal hospitality, the atmosphere of Baazi cabest be described as second-rate Bandra club: think blue lighting, Anokhi kitsch, and pumping electronic music.Thankfully, the food was serviceable, and the drinks were excellent—major props to the mixer for salvaging what has otherwise been a comedy of errors. The sharkarkandi chaat was an excellent reinterpretation of the dish, and the kali kachori put a fairly creative spin on a commonly-found street food. The biryani was alright—nothing to write home about, but not the worst we’ve had in the city. The butter kalan was good as well, and comes recommended. Unfortunately, we didn’t receive the butternut squash kofta, which was otherwise highly recommended as well. We got the jalebi sandwich for dessert, a combination that worked surprisingly well. Was the food worth the hourlong wait, however? I would answer in the negative, though your mileage may vary. It’s a pity that the level of service we received was not at all commensurate with the quality of food here— surely, Chef Gaurav Anand’s talent and finesse merits a much better team!
