Several months ago Greg Belman emailed me to say that he had figured out a crossover upgrade that would improve the sound of my Bache Audio Metro 001 speakers, which I was already very happy with. More recently he emailed me to say that he had tested an Eton woofer in the Metro 001 as an upgrade over the stock Tang Band unit. The Eton produces both deeper and tighter bass but requires modifying the port. I asked if he could also replace the air motion transformer tweeter with the Fostex FT96-EX2 he has used in some models, and rewire the speakers with Stage III Concepts (tweeter) and Dueland tinned copper (wideband driver and woofer). When I finally drove up to Brooklyn to take him my speakers I discovered that he had built and tested a prototype with the Eton and Fostex drivers that I could listen to and compare head to head with my current speakers. Needless to say upgrading those two drivers made a significant improvement. I have them back home and they are still breaking in, but it is already clear that with the Eton woofers bass is deeper, more forceful, and more articulate. Greg told me that the Fostex FT96-EX2 tweeters would expand soundstage width and depth, and that is what I am hearing. Timbre is more realistic across all frequencies (particularly noticeable with piano), and images are more naturally fleshed out with no spotlighting. Every piece of music Ive played has sounded more natural than I remembered. Kudos to Greg Bellman who clearly loves what he does and is constantly trying to improve his products.

I was impressed with Baches Lexington speaker at the New York Audio Show this past November I decided to go to Baches showroom in Brooklyn and take a listen to the Tribeca speakers. To make a long story short, I took delivery of my pair about 10 days ago. I have owned many speakers including Thiel, ProAc, Verity, Coincident, Rethm, Nola, Shahinian, and I still own Quad 57s and Audio Physic Tempo Plus speakers. These Bache speakers are music makers; very coherent, perfectly balanced from top to bottom, have tight, articulate bass, and throw off a huge 3 dimensional soundstage. Having lived with PK rebuilt Quad ESLs for many years Im very sensitive to the midrange. The Tribecas have a beautiful midrange thats very smooth and transparent with absolutely no fatigue.Greg Belman is wonderful to deal with and is very enthusiastic about his speakers.
