It is an excellent school with great teachers. It is a superb school with a Very friendly and helpful staff with only a few exceptions. My two daughters studied ballet in this school and I have no complain except for a bit of discrimination at times. But is okey. Its nobady fault that number 1- I am not rich, 2- I am from a foreign country and 3- I am no white. And last but not least- I speak a broken English. However they treated us with a great deal of respect which we really appreciate very much. Besides, my daughters received a superb ballet training here so thank you so much. I really miss all those years- the recitals, and most of all, the Nutcracker with Mr. Patrelly. Mis regard to all of You.: Lourdes Lopez, Nancy and of course, miss Dumbo.
I saw first Nutcracker performance in my middle twenty and then I decided to study ballet, but there was no ballet studio in my neighborhood at that time. Luckily I moved NYC the next year, and there are so many ballet studios. I choose BAE because of its great reviews and the diverse levels of class (6 levels + pointe). I have taken ballet class for 3 years, and have tried all the teachers from intro to adv intermediate. All the teachers are wonderful, yet each of them emphasizes different aspects (alignment, technique, epaulement, musicality, etc), and inspires me in different ways. I also take modern class every week, and I just start taking tap. I like the studio so much and its really my pleasure to be a part of it!
I was here for pilates through NYC Dance Week. When I first came in here, I felt very stuffy and I felt like it needed to be more ventiliated with air conditioning. Its good to know that they have a shower here in case you dont want to be sticky and smelly after dancing. In terms of the pilates class, it was good - we used a lot of different tools including a medicine ball, a loop thing and a block. It wasnt too strenuous of a workout, minus the part where my neck felt strained. It was a bit of a commute for me, but otherwise an okay class.
My 18 months daughter start taking ballet class in the beginning I thought shes too young but apparently its not about that its the whole experience with the rest of the kids the teachers and the live music it was amazing experience for me and for her thank you BAE ❤️

2021-07-21Amazing , dedicated teachers who give each dancer personal attention and are committed to developing individual skills. Classes are offered both virtually and in studio due to COVID-19. The teachers are also wondering at making the most of whatever space you have to dance in when joining virtually. I’ve been taking classes here for years and am so grateful for this school (now more than ever)!

2021-04-30The instructors are excellent and there is a lovely supportive atmosphere among students. Physical space occasionally felt cramped in pre-Covid times and instruction via Zoom has been frustrating, but kudos to their whole staff for their commitment to making blended learning work.

2020-02-03I found this school through classpass which gives me discounted dance classes at different studios. The teachers and staff at the front desk are awesome. I have been to this studio serval times. It is easy to find because of their sign. They buzz you in as you get to the door and are alert and friendly at the front. Great vibes and the studios are fairly large. I take a basic class to focus on my ballet with Linda Gelinas there and shes a sweet lady who will help you fall in love with ballet. Theres many more classes and people you can meet here. The bathroom and locker room is pretty clean. Will definitely come back.

2020-02-19My daughter started classes here recently. We got very lucky, and the first teacher we went to, she fell in love with. Both the teacher and the assistants go an extra mile to support my shy girl, and make her feel comfortable and engaged. She’s all smiles to go in and come out.

2020-07-13Anne Kelly is one of the teachers and she is an absolute gem. Her classes are so instructive and she does such a good job of guiding the students through the various routines. She also leads the classes really well online during the COVID shutdown. Highly recommend her classes!

2019-01-19Amazing school for children and adults of all skill levels. Convenient location on the upper east side. I enjoy the classes myself just for the exercise — trust me, I’m no ballerina! You can really work up a good sweat and burn some calories. It keeps me more motivated and mentally challenged than just walking on a boring treadmill or elliptical. The little kids look so adorable. I also enjoy seeing the pre-professional dancers. The training looks world-class at that level. There are usually 5 different studios going so lots of different classes to choose from, depending on your particular situation.

2016-04-29Teachers for adult classes are great and more easygoing than other studios. If you ask for help, they are always more than happy to oblige. Other students are helpful, not at all snooty. Studio space is a bit smaller making floor work for a night class a bit crowded. I love that there is always a ballet pianist which adds to the authenticity of the experience. Make sure you read class description and place yourself in the appropriate skill level class!

2019-06-17Perhaps my favorite place on earth. Okay, top five. I am an adult student, I travel frequently so in addition to trying to a couple other studios in NYC Ive tried several in other cities in the US and even a few abroad, so I feel I can say with some authority NOTHING COMPARES TO BALLET ACADEMY EAST. Seriously, the teachers here are phenomenal, they truly care, they dont treat you like an out of shape human in an ill fitting leotard (how I tend to feel in dance class) rather they treat you like their life depends on you learning how to dance correctly. You will get tons of feedback and corrections. The teachers explain and mark everything so you will never be confused or uncertain of how to dance. They have so many levels so you can be certain that so long as you attend a class at your level you will be able to do everything in that class (although it will certainly still be a challenge). Such a privilege to learn from these teachers.

2018-04-03The best teachers and facility in Manhattan. I highly recommend this studio for all levels of dancers--- from absolute beginners to professional dancers. The teachers make this studio. I highly recommend Shirleys class along with Julie and Enrique. All of the teachers are wonderful but these 3 are my favorite.
