Honestly, we were scared to come here because of a few negative reviews. We watited forever (about 10 minutes) to even get acknowledged at the Gin Mill so we left. We are SO glad we made this choice! It was not quite 6:30 when arrived at Ballons. We were seated/served immediately and our food came out fast and delicious! We did have the Keg Tots (tators??) to start, sorry forgot picture. YUM! The wings were delicious and we will definitively be back! Thanks for a yummy dinner.
Drinks were more expensive than other places I go in eville, but they are on the main drag so rent is higher. But the drinks were great and the food was great too! Their fake chicken tenders are phenomenal! You wouldnt know they were fake meat! Lots of vege and vegan options available to choose from.
I probably would not eat here again solely for the unwelcoming environment. We walked and were told to go to the back. We seated ourselves. The bartender completely ignored us for a good 5-7 minutes. A “someone will be right with you” would have been better than nothing! Finally a server came in took our drink order. I completely understand socializing with your customers but not to the point your neglecting other customers just because their not sitting and drinking at the bar. I don’t really get a family friendly vibe from this place! I defiantly felt judged coming in with my family. Three other adults came in as we were eating and they immediately got up to welcome and attend to them. Food was good and server was nice but I wouldn’t come back nor bring my family when they visit.
Man, where to even start off. Came here after driving 4 hours and 6 mins, and Pardon my French thank f word we came here! Waitress brought out this delicious water for us and the pups that had to be filtered anywhere from 12 to 69 times!! Hit the spit after being dehydrated from the drive! Will be back, thankful this place is here
We decided to eat at Balloons on a Friday night as other restaurants had over an hour wait. They were able to seat us right away, but the tables were arguably closer together than desired for COVID times. The atmosphere was great with a live cover band, but the volume was a little too high. Service was good with cold drinks, but we were unimpressed with the food. The chicken bacon ranch sandwich and fries were both cooked fine, but neither had any flavor to speak of.
While at ballons in ellicottville ny for fall fest the bartender Becka started taking orders from her friends in the back off the line where she gave 5 shots to her friend for *shrug* $12! Then after waiting 35 minutes I asked for a gin and tonic and the other bartender gives me a $7 gingerale!!!!! Worst experience Ive ever had!!! Worst service in the history or pubs!!!! Will NEVER come here again!
This place is more like a 3.3 star place. It’s good for the area where there isn’t a ton of restaurants to choose from. They were appropriately busy on a Saturday, but it seemed some things fell through the cracks such as an allergy check, silverware, and second round of drinks. The food was good but not something I would seek out. Currently, most of the seating is outside but there is a big tent for shade/ protection from weather. Also, it seems that they don’t put a lot of sauce/ dressing on the food, I got a chicken bacon ranch sandwich that was mostly chicken and bacon with just a hint of ranch. But some people like that to each their own.
Do not order the Mahi taco. I was sick about 7hrs later after eating it. It was dry and had no flavor. The taco shell that they used was one from a box. Drinks are way overpriced. I ordered a mojioto and it was made with lime cordial instead of fresh lime juice and had no simple syrup. I asked the waitress to bring some but I think that because she was so busy she may have forgotten. I had to walk to bar to get them to fix my drink. For a $12 mojito I would have thought it would have been way better but it just tasted like a rum and soda. It was very skimpy on the mint. This place is way overpriced for the quality of food and drink
My wife and I had an amazing meal at Balloons Restaurant after a great day of hiking holiday valley. The food is outta this world, the atmosphere is cozy and laid-back, and our server robin was polite and professional! We live an hour and a half away in Buffalo and will definitely be returning to this amazing establishment often!
Another buzzing Saturday night place in town with good atmosphere, covid notwithstanding. Unfortunately the pretzel cheese curds and fish tacos were both overcooked, with the fish tacos being too dry to eat. The unfortunate final surprise was that the 20 for $20 wings were actually 20 for $24 when you choose two flavors. Ive never heard of such a policy where theres an upcharge for two flavors on 20 wings. I think this place can easily do better and this was probably just an off night.
Worst service ever!! We were seated at the bar and were never acknowledged. Bartender even stood right in front of us to make drinks for others and would not speak to us. After waiting 20 minutes the hostess was nice enough to get drinks for us after she spoke to the bartender who continued to ignore us. We gave it 10 minutes more and still no service so we walked out. Will never give it another try!! The 1 star rating is for the hostess who tried to help.
Went for lunch on a busy Saturday after snowboarding, weve been there before but never eaten there. Staff was cheerful and quick , the food was great! We had the black and blue burger and the chicken bacon ranch sandwich, homemade chips and queso and everything was fresh and tasty!! Topped off an all-around great day!
Really enjoyed the atmosphere of the bar. I liked how the front bar had dance music and how the back had live music. A bartender did try to short me 20 dollars in change when buying drinks and was super defensive when I called her out on it (it was not a mistake on her part, it was purposefully done). Always count your change when buying drinks here.
Homemade chicken fingers were hardly any chicken and very tough and chewy. Were allowing a large table of 11 people right next to us to hang out without ordering anything. A few were clearly intoxicated standing around us with masks off. Said something to waitress she stated they were fine. Ellicottville was in the middle of a covid break out.
We arrived at Balloons at around 6:30. The place was relatively empty, but we were told there were no seats because they didn’t have enough servers. We should have left at that point. We stayed at sat at the bar. Long story short, it took two hours to get our food, and 4 people in our party were violently ill that night. Our family had come together from all over the Midwest to go skiing. It ruined our trip.
Probably the most affordable place in Ellicottville. $.25 wings on Monday are awesome. Come in with a group and try all the flavors! Blue cheese, ranch or celery is $1 extra. Friendly staff, clean bathroom, decent priced drinks and appetizers. Been here twice so far and already planning to come back.
Went here on Monday with my lady, on a recommendation from a local. 25 cent wings were big, saucy, and delicious! Make sure you have the EBC Blueberry Beer! The souvlaki salad and Buffalo wing soup were to die for. The server had a full section but we received pleasant and attentive service. Would recommend!
Live music on the weekends is great; however, bring your wallet for every thing else. I have been frequenting this place of two decades and its great if money is no object. It has some of the best wings in WNY. The rest of the bar food menu is generally very good.On the last visit my wife ordered a draft of Stella. $8 for a draft of Stella! If you are going to charge that much for draft beer, at least list the prices somewhere where one can make a more informed decision.
Pretty good service, there were nine of us for wing night @25 cents! Cant beat that! The dry rub ranch were very good. The only two down falsl was they do not split checks. We each had our kids. AND NO BLUEBERRIES FOR EBC BB DRAFT? Otherwise would recommend & will go back!
Fun bar right in downtown Ellicottville. We went on a Friday night. There was a band playing in the front room when we arrived. The back bar area was more calm but still fun. They have an outdoor seating area with a fire pit. Later after the band left a DJ took over and there was a lot of dancing. One of my favorite spots in Ellicottville.
I’d like to give this a better rating. The food was good but the service was awful. Our waitress up-charged us on several items without letting us know, but said she couldn’t do anything about it. And then the manager came over and argued with us about how she couldn’t take off the extra charges. It was just really weird. The service side of things were abysmal but the food was good.I don’t recommend, unfortunately.
Want true advice go to Ellicottville brewing company instead even if theres a wait itll be better than this place. Waited half an hour for food, that was mediocre at best and then 15 mins for the check. After watching the staff wait on three other tables, fulfill thier requests and then disappear. Staff was not friendly and improperly trained. Just go elsewhere.
I ordered root beer, no ice. Got root beer with ice. Took a few minutes to get that corrected. Ordered the bacon bleu burger with the chips, side of bbq sauce. Wife ordered cactus tacos. (This place has many clear vegan/vegetarian options.) Burger was good. Chips were cold (maybe thats how they come). Bbq sauce arrived eventually. Cactus strips were slimy, which is to be expected. Atmosphere was band bar in the front, sports bar in the back, and has a patio.Overall, I wouldnt go back, as the value/experience to price ratio isnt there, but, again, they have vegan options for people who need that kind of thing.
Dont go for monday wing night. The wings may be 25 cents but when the tap water costs more than the wings theres definitely a problem! One star for the fact wings were tasty. Rude unattentive waitress. Its a huge turnoff when you see staff lick fingers that got into your food. No thanks!
There are basically only three places to hear live music in Ellicottville and this is one of them. Ive been eating, drinking, and dancing here for 25 years. My 7 and 10 year old daughters have been eating dinner and dancing to live music since they were old enough to walk. So that is the lens through which I now view Balloons. The last few years have brought some changes. Some good and some not so good. My review is precipitated on my evening out at Balloons during the weekend of the Ellicottville Jazz Festival.Theyve rearranged the bar layout to make it more band friendly and thats a good thing. The tables around the bar are elevated so that even on the other side of the room you have good views of the band (even with a full house). They put an addition on the back for dining away from the bar and it is really nice. Its a great layout with a really comfortable feel. On most weekends, if you want to dance to top 40, this is the place to go after 9pm. Before 9 on a typical Saturday night, youll get a classic rock cover band. Occasionally a decent blues band. This being Jazz & Blues weekend, we were here for the music ....and dinner. It was suggested by the waitress that we might be more comfortable in the back on the patio with the kids and all. We took the hint. Partially because we kind of wanted to check out the new space anyways and figured we could come hang out with music afterwards. Our waitress was busting her butt, but there were only two of them and the place was basically at 100% full. No bus staff. We ordered drinks. The first three beers we asked for were out. ...seriously. Phin and Matts, Sam Adams, and something else that I cant remember right now. All out. Before the new ownership took over a few years ago, Balloons was known for their gumbo. Today I would definitely not recommend it. It is not made with the care that gumbo requires. They no longer serve it with corn bread and the sweet potato fries are offered with catsup instead of the honey and butter concoction they use to serve (although you can get plain honey if you ask for it).I ordered the Angus Burger which I swear was kind of like eating a hockey puck. My daughters grilled cheese was not even browned and the cheese was not melted. The fries were tough and dense (almost like theyd been microwaved). If you want honey on your sweet potato fries, you have to ask. In the last two years it has never been offered. What else would you put on sweet potato fries? My other daughter had no complaints about her ruben. And my wifes salad apparently was acceptable. There was a silver haired group of folks sitting near us around the fire pit. They had asked for service and were told that it would be a minute. They asked a second time, and then easily more than an hour later a third time. This time the manager (openly muttering under his breath as he walked past our table) told them that there was no service at the fire pit!The waitress asked how everything was. I told her (with my honest to God best smile face) that she was wonderful but the food left something to be desired. She looked at my mostly empty plate and said, well it looks like it must have been terrible. I told her that I wasnt worried about my because I was starving, but my daughter wouldnt eat her meal.Anyhow she credited me for the sandwich, we paid and went out front to watch the music. We lucked out by finding a comfortable spot right up in front. The gentlemen next to me at the bar, gave my daughter his seat. My wife and daughters immediately took to the open dance floor. We were just into the third song when that short miserable manager (who might be the owner) approached my wife to tell her that they really dont allow kids in the bar after 9pm. Up until then it had not occurred to me that we just spent 2 1/2 hours to get our dinner. But that was it. He had just told us that after all these years, we were not welcome in his establishment. So we left.
Ordered sweet tea i should have known better it tasted like half tea half artificial lemonade. Ordered pork belly sandwhich i got a bacon sandwhich . Severely dissapointed i cant eat thin crispy bacon pork belly is thick fatty pieces of bacon often with bbq sauce. So i took 2 bites didnt drink the tea the onion rings were good . No discount even when i said it wasnt what expected. So i paid 20 for nothing.
First time in this nice town, went tubing with my wife. Decided to grab a bite so we stopped at balloons. Proceeded to the bar only to have a very rude lady bartender ask us, is there something I can help you with? ina demeaning manner. Food is basic and not unique and along with the rude barter, we decided to leave. Go to VILLAGIO Italian instead. Theyre very nice.
SKIP THIS PLACE! $5 for ONE bottle of beer. Seriously? It was only a michelob ultra. Three beers and an appetizer that included 6 small soft pretzels sticks, bill was $30. Left to find a meal and drink that was more affordable. EBC and Cadillac jacks ... cheaper and better ... and within less 30 feet from this place.

2021-07-21Nice patio with friendly staff. Nice beer selection and speciality drinks. Wife had southwest salad which she said was wonderful. I had the home made chicken fingers. They were well made but sauce comes on the side. If they sauced it they would get soggy. My only complaint was they charge 14 bucks for the fingers which comes with celery. They charge an extra buck for blue cheese. But at least they didnt cut it with mayo like some places do.

2022-01-23Busy and noisy location, friendly and hard working staff. Stopped in for the Ellicottville Blues Festival, and enjoyed the music. The Bavarian pretzels were not warm, but tasted good. Was disappointed that the pulled pork sammy brioche roll tasted a little dry/old/stale, and the pork itself was dry and too chunky (not pulled enough?).

2021-07-10Had dinner here tonight. The atmosphere was great and our service was good. I had the pulled pork with the hike made fresh cut chips. The pork had a great taste but was pretty dry as a little hard to eat. If ordered I would ask for a extra side of sauce. My drink was super good and I highly recommend it. Would like to give this place another try and order something different. Live music and cornhole was another plus!

2019-10-14My wife and I went here on a Monday for the wing special(25 cent wings). My wife ordered medium Buffalo and I ordered garlic Parmesan. The taste was okay but they were greasy and overcooked but for 25 cents its no big deal. I had a pint and my wife a mixed drink and we were worried about the prices from reading other reviews but they were some of the cheapest drinks we had on our trip. I also had the tater kegs which I thought were pretty good but my wife not so much. The service was good too. I would go back again and try something else. I would of gave 4 stars but the wings were a bit of a disappointment.
