Was a bit skeptical about going in, but I’m sure glad I did. This place has amazing food with great decor, Pat is an awesome guy and an even better style ambassador/ chef.... I’ve made this place a go to and I surely recommend this place to anyone who’s looking for authentic Thai food or is looking for dope vintage clothing!
This is not your typical thai food. If youre interested in trying a different type of thai food, give this a try. The interior is not too big and brings an intimate setting. We ordered the following:Teemeriand coconut milk noodle with crab meat. This was served with bowl of noodles and thin rice noodles and you pour your coconut milk with crab meat over the noodles. This was a good dish. Im more a fan of the thicker rice noodles and not as much a fan of the larger noodles. The chef stop to us and said he can make the dishes to our liking. Next time I come back, I may ask if I can have a thicker noodle with the dishKhao Mun Gai - this is fresh chicken meat over rice. This is a simple dish. If you like rice and chicken give it a try. The rice was very good, and you have a few pieces of chicken to go with it.Green curry - with eggplant, bamboo shoot basil, shrimp. This dish served with a bowl of curry and rice. Its your typical green curry. This is a nice place, Ill definitely come back to try the other dishes.
This is my favorite restaurant in NYC. The food is delicious, full of flavor and texture and its always fresh and served with thoughtfulness and care. I love that the dishes are authentic and that they are scrumptious.I called the restaurant a long time ago to ask about vegan options and the person I spoke with (I think he was the owner) was friendly and kind and exceeded my expectations. It was clear the restaurant is accommodating to those with different food requirements and also that they want to be accessible and enjoyable for everyone (which they are!).I havent tried many things on the menu but I suspect you cant go wrong!
Easily the best Thai food Ive ever tried in my life. SUPER tasty, full of flavor, and authentic. Hole in the wall restaurant with one man at the helm cooking up a storm. MUST get tamarind coconut milk noodle, basil fried rice, and literally anything on the menu. Tofu steak is great too. Vegan friendly. I have dined and ordered takeout multiple times and the food ALWAYS exceeds expectations. Bangklyn is a hidden gem in East Harlem but I dare say is better than most Thai restaurants in Manhattan without all the frills
Sooo good! So authentic (per my friends that have been to Thailand). Get this: ONE cook/server/store owner/clothing store salesman (you’ll get it when you see inside) who cooked for our group of SEVEN in less than 15 minutes for lunch. Delicious, fast, cheap. We’ll be back! Can’t wait!
Baby cockroach!! Won’t come back, although the food was ok and the couple were very friendly. The place was small with only 4 tables, 2 big and 2 small. There was no service as the couple had to work in the kitchen, which I totally understood. The food was ok, not too salty or sweet or fishy (from the fish sauce), but the portion was very small for dinner and for that price. I’d expect the portion to be twice as much. The most surprising thing was that I saw a baby cockroach scurrying around on the counter table in the kitchen. Now my stomach is feeling weird.
Doesnt get more realer than this. This is legit. The noodles are fresh always and the flavor is perfect. This Thai spot is DIFFERENT and the only way to know what Im talking about is if you go and try for yourself. Im blessed to live down the block from here. The pad Thai with mushrooms or chicken is so good. You cannot get the mushroom pad Thai with chicken added it doesnt work like that here because the amazing man is making authentic Thai food and his methods are straight from the beautiful place Thailand as well dont be one of those people thats gets mad you cannot add chicken to the mushrooms or.vise.verse hes doing it the right way and it works I had both just the mushroom pad Thai and then chicken pad Thai. Its amazing I have been all over NYC my whole life I have lived here and I have never tried Thai food that is as authentic as this and taste amazing. Please just go and please dont do special requests let them work their magic . Thank me later
Tastes just like what you would get at a street stall in Southern Thailand. Not super spicy or complex like at a fine dining Thai place, but just simple, understated, very authentic home Thai cooking. SriPraPhai is still #1 in NYC and one of the best Thai restaurants in the world and Ayada is #2 in NYC. I dont have a strong #3 so far, but in terms of authenticity and unique taste, Bangklyn definitely stands out from the rest of the usual Thai restaurants in the city that all share that same run of the mill, Americanized Thai food taste.
Gourmet, nuanced Thai cuisine at a price point far lower than what you would expect for the quality. the owner is the only employee, so have a little patience after you order. he puts his soul into the place, and it shows. the interior boasts a highly aesthetic bricolage decor and doubles as a men’s thrift shop
Short menu. I ordered the tofu & mushroom red curry, no soy sauce. I puff up like a balloon 🎈, with too much salt. It was delicious. I hear the fried chicken is amazing. I actually found myself daydreaming about it. Went back yesterday and ordered the green curry which has eggplant in addition to tofu and mushroom. Equally yummy
I went to Bankglyn this weekend with a few friends and sat outside. I absolutely loved this meal so much. The food was insanely flavorful; we got the market noodles (our favorite dish), fried chicken, tamarind coconut crab noodles, green curry, and basil fried rice and each dish was so delicious. The owner does everything - cook, serve, and sell amazing vintage clothes :) HIGHLY recommend this place for some amazing Thai food.
Best thai restaurant in NYC hands down! Everything here tastes very authentic, strong flavors and spicy. Their menu is not your run-of-the-mill thai menu, they have very interesting and delicious items. Hard to back to any other thai restaurant after going to Bangklyn
Bangklyn is uniquely delicious, tiny, and with a chef & (owner?) passionately friendly and talkative about his food! My first time I shared the delicious market noodles and fried chicken at an outdoor table with BYOB beer. The second time I popped in for takeout. Being indecisive between the larb with fish or a curry dish, the chef recommend which one worked better for leftovers the next day, and whether fish or crab worked better for the curry. I went with a curry, only to get home and see that he had popped in a side of the larb so I could try it! Delicious, flavorful and fresh.
I loved this place. My 5 year old daughter ate there and the owner went out of his way to make us happy with our meals. He was so kind, and I would go back just because of him. The food was very flavorful and delicious all the way around. I recommend market noodles. I will be back!
If you are looking for authentic Thai food look no further. I ordered the market noodle bowl with tofu and mushroom and it was delicious. Feels like you stepped into a little dive in Bangkok. The space is small but very chill vibe. I placed a to go order and was very happy with the service I received.
This is my favorite go-to spot when Im in the area. Their Morning Market Noodles with tofu and mushrooms is so good. My wife loves the Pad Thai with chicken. We used to get delivery, but we love eating there now since everything is made fresh to order, and mixed exactly right.
Positively the best takeaway Ive had in ages--and in my opinion, the best Thai food in Manhattan. I tried the Khao Mun Gai Tod: the chicken was perfectly crispy and flavorful and the plum sauce was sweet and tart and tangy. Additionally, I had Vietnamese coffee and it was wrapped to perfection--not even a drop spilled on my bike ride home. I ordered on arrival and my food was prepared quickly. Thank you for the speedy service! I will be back!
I love the food in Bangklyn! The service is excellent and personal. You get served by Pat the owner and you can see he cooks his food with love and pride. We love their papaya salad, their chicken soup is yummy and their fried chicken is the bomb! Their noodles are incredible... I can go on and on... It is a hidden gem in East Harlem and the prices are great! Bangklyn is not like every Thai Food restaurant...you need to go and check it out for yourself!
Amazing food. Tiny hole in the wall location. Maybe 5 tables total. The kitchen is in the dining area. The chef owns and runs the place. We had some wonderful conversations with the owners and incredible food. They were able to accommodate a Vegan menu request as well.
Wow!!!! This kind of places are what make NYC great. Fantastic flavors and pad thai. The owner, an older man from Thailand, is also the chef and you can see him cooking your food. All the ingredients are super fresh. Thai food cannot get more authentic than this. We got the chicken pad thai and it was amazing. And for only $9.95. !and its cheaper ($8.50) during lunch! The chicken was battered and served on the side. They also have many vegetarian options with tofu and mushrooms. I like that they have a small menu, I can tell how much thought and flavor pairings go in every plate so it seems you cant go wrong with any of them. I also tried the Vietnamese coffee - which is sweetened with sweetened condensed milk. It was a great and a nice break from typical coffee. We also tried their chicken broth soup which was delicately flavorful with some hints of spices. Im so jealous of people who live around this area!
My family love this place. The Green Curry is to die for. Sweetness of grilled eggplant balanced with coconut milk and fresh basil leaves. Genius!I love Tamarind Coconut Milk Noodle for texture and flavor. Peanuts, coconut milk, sesame seeds, noodles, lime. Delicious and filling.I used to hate PadThai and this place has changed my opinion on what a great PadThai should be. Not too sweet, not too salty. When super hot its the best in my opinion, but my husband likes it even room temperature.Kids love fried chicken. Its very mild flavor, but when you dip it in Plum sauce its a bomb. And another one is Morning Market Noodles. Its just so comforting to eat. Salt and acidity of the broth are right on the spot, so distinct and comforting. Love it.We also love this place for simplicity and fair prices. Its great for families and friends get together (BYOB also is a big plus:-))
I am officially a fan of this quaint Thai place. My second visit was better than my first, and I base this review on the better experience. The pad thai with the battered chicken on the side and the coconut milk noodles. l were both perfect. One suggestion, just to open up the space, replace the large round tables by smaller ones, and comfier seats.Love the home feel of the space though.
This small restaurant (Id say Thai restaurant but the owner, who cooks your food fresh while you wait, said his cooking isnt Thai alone), is a very special new addition to the neighborhood. The morning market noodle is made with a stand-out flavorful broth and the tamarind coconut milk noodle (definitely add the crab) is sweet and comforting. We felt at home in the eclectically decorated interior. And if youre in need of company, the owner will happily explain to you his culinary process. Five stars!
Small place for a superb dinner of spicy pad thai with shrimp that are done just right. Owners two kids make place very welcoming and when we visited them tonight, their son played with our son and their daughter told us about Elsa :). We love food, and this place is a small gem in East Harlem. Thank you guys for a wonderful fried basil rice and shrimp pad thai. Now we do not have to travel to Queens for good Thai
** I ordered takeout, so maybe that explains my bad review (I doubt it though*After looking at all the positive reviews(from here, articles, yelp, etc) I was excited to try this spot. I ordered the coconut milk noodles and southern fried chicken. One word truly sums up what the meal was: Tasteless. There was absolutely zero flavor to almost everything I got.The fried chicken was the biggest disappointment. It tasted like it had all the flavor was surgically removed from the chicken. The breading tasted like cardboard and the chicken itself has zero seasoning on it(not even salt and pepper!). It was also incredibly dry, as in not even a sliver of moisture/juiciness in the chicken at all. IThe noodles were not any better. Im a fan of vermicelli noodles and have gotten it from numerous places and these are far an away the worst Ive had. The coconut milk broth tasted like coconut though, so I guess thats a positive.I really dont want/like giving negative reviews and perhaps this place is different as a dine-inn experience but I really cant fathom how it would be any better.

2022-04-09Delicious home-made style Thai cuisine! The chef was a bit curt, but because he was busy with cooking and taking orders. Food was good and price was reasonable. Satisfying experience overall!

2022-09-03Streaming loud Thai/Khmer music, lots of spicy aromas, SE Asian logod clothings, mismatched furniture pieces, somewhat grumpy but helpful cook. Brings me back to Cambodia or Thailand! Lots of comfort foods youd get at street / market stalls. Food is very spicy (heat and flavor) and not sugar-heavy like many Thai restaurants unfortunately like to do. Love the market noodle (a bit more greasy than I like but its good) and the Khao Mun Gai (chicken rice). Thai iced tea is wonderful. As of Aug 2022, skip the Vietnamese coffee. I really love this place!

2021-01-19Bangklyn has to be one of my favorite places to eat Thai food! Everything so delicious and is worth the trip every time 🤩 Last time I went, my family got their amazing fried chicken ( the sauce that comes with it is as amazing too!), Shrimp pad Thai, red curry, and their morning market noodle! All were VERY TASTY 😋 Nothing here disappoints! The Thai ice tea is also a favorite of mine! I would recommend it to anyone who comes! Although not shown, the fried rice is also super good! My favorite dish has to be the pad Thai though! For anyone deciding to come here (even though it’s a bit far), just know that it will definitely be the worth the trip 🤗

2022-06-02Amazing one-man shop. Fried chicken was out of this world. Ambiance managed to be both cool and authentic. Would be great for a unique date or a small group dinner. Will definitely go back.

2022-08-25Best green curry I’ve ever had!The curry had a smoky eggplant flavor, this was definitely made fresh! Not too spicy or sweet. Generous portion. Had the tofu.

2021-06-27🍗 @bangklyn is East Harlem’s go-to Thai restaurant and vintage store. A modern interpretation of classic dishes by the coolest man in all of El Barrio, author of a fried chicken that always hits and owner of many, many fly fits. 10/10
