Very cute, local spot with tasty and fresh food that’s hard to come by in restaurants. Service was phenomenal with a friendly and engaged staff. Highly recommend for a cozy, intimate brunch with a loved one or your best friend(s). As a sweet tooth, I highly recommend their banana bread as pictured.(Local reviewer based in NYC with avg 3 rating as of posting; Instagram @psundry)
A really fun place with a great vibe for brunch. The food is excellent. 4 stars rather than 5 because the service was a little mixed with inflexibility with the cocktail list ( told no for a classic margarita, just the spicy version on the menu) and its a little noisy inside due to acoustics.
You can tell this is an aussie cafe because a) the flat white is outstanding b) they prioritise both great coffee AND great food and c) the service is laid back and attentive. Oh and a breakfast plate that includes eggs, haloumi, mushrooms and avo!I got the grilled chicken burger and flat white (latter not pictured because i consumed it too quickly)
Great experience sitting outside for brunch under a heat lamp on a 30-degree day, with our two small kids. Lots of airflow but still plenty warm. The food was all excellent: Nutella stuffed French toast was expectedly sweet but also full of nutty granola. Even the scrambled eggs were whipped in a fun way on the plate and perfectly runny. And Australian accents abound!
Banter quickly became my favorite coffee spot in the Meatpacking District, where I worked every day before COVID. My go-to espresso drink is a cortado, and Banter is one of the only places that *consistently* serves a cortado with the correct espresso to milk ratio. Ive enjoyed the few sit-down lunches Ive had there as well, especially the gluten-free banter bowl with salmon and the gluten-free greens salad with chicken. I love the overall atmosphere of the space, too, and miss stopping by on my way to work. I hope they continue to do well during this difficult time!
Incredibly overcrowded on weekends. The staff dont even make an attempt to actually wear masks. There is no pexiglass shielding between most of the tables or between the tables and the entraces to adjacent buildings. Generally, this restaurant does not seem to be taking COVID even a little seriously.(january update) Things got better for a week after this review and then immediately went back to normal.

2022-08-15My food was good, I had banter bowl with veggies and chicken. Good fresh food.My husband didn’t like his breakfast that much. He had big breakfast. But it might be his personal preferences.3 star is not because of food.Food is ok for the price.Service was inattentive. They brought us check, while putting it on the table they asked if we want something else.We felt rushed out.And we did want to order some sweets, but decided not to, because of that. Also when they were greeting the other guest, the host was texting on the phone while guest was standing in front of them.Last thing:Bathroom. Very dirty. Hand dryer was so dirty that I didn’t want to put my hands into it.Overall place feels nice but not well maintained.Needs a good deep cleaning and bit friendlier service.

2022-06-25We were wandering with grumbling bellies when we stumbled upon Banter. Cute little spot that makes you want to love it. Food was okay. My avocado toast was standard but the feta was not crumbly and looked more like marshmallows. I ordered a side of mushrooms so I could have the best of both avo toast and mushroom toast. The mushrooms were bland and didnt add much appeal. My boyfriend got the Big Banter Breakfast and it seems like the perfect combo of all ones breakfast needs but it was kind of just random ingredients put on a plate. Service was good, friendly staff.

2021-11-21Great spot for Sunday Brunch. A tiny restaurant where the espresso machine is prominent in the small, simply decorated dining room. The dishes were presented beautifully as everything that was delivered to the surrounding tables looked delicious. We had the Big Breakfast and BLTA (add scrambled eggs). The sweet potato fries were amazing. The sandwich was very good. The Big Breakfast was a bit too salty and the coffees weren’t hot enough.Service was expedient. They don’t take reservations, but the wait list is managed efficiently. A good experience overall.

2021-08-17We walked by this place and got breakfast here. It was really good! I got the Golden Folded Eggs and my gf got the Nutella Stuffed French Toast. The food came out quickly and was delicious.I also got a cappuccino, which was smaller than I prefer but was topped with crumbled chocolate and made perfectly. This place would be great for either a sit down brunch or a cup of coffee and a book. Will return.

2022-05-31Cute place with diner vibes and the best alt-rock 90s music playing. Food is great and so is the coffee. My suggestion is go with the Big Breakfast - all the ingredients are quality and the sour dough is some of the best Ive had.
