I came here with my boyfriend about 3years ago before we left for our trip memorial day weekend to ocean city Maryland and it was the best experience I ever had in a restaurant in my whole life. The vibe was so calm & romantic. I loved everything from the service to the decor of the restaurant & the food was delicious and amazing. I definitely want to go back again whenever the pandemic is over.
Great food and staff. They have a lunch pre-fix option for the weekend (cant recall if offered during the week as well) that will fill you up. I expected the portion to be small, but they give you a great amount of food for a great deal (I believe 43 for the app and main course with 8 dollars more if you wanted dessert). Highly recommend if you are in the area.
Went during restaurant week and what an incredible value - service was excellent and food was delicious. And I have to rave about the wine included in the prix fixe menu - just delicious - we ended up ordering 2 bottles!! Our wait staff recommended it and she was spot on!
I would love to give five stars! Wine selection and food are always great here, and most of the staff are super nice and make you feel welcome. The exception was our bartender last night...the way he interacted with us was less than courteous and...frankly, cold. In this climate, it made me wonder if there was some kind of animus, implicit or otherwise? (we are both Asians)...we considered having a second glass but decided to move to the Smith next door. I hope it was just that he was tired (on Wednesday around 9pm...but things happen) and that the next time we will feel as welcome and great as we normally would here.
Incredible food, atmosphere and service. For dinner, order the 3 course menu where you can choose an appetizer, entrée, and dessert. Seemingly, you cannot go wrong with anything on the menu and the wait staff will ensure you order what you are looking for as long as you ask.
I had a reservation for dinning inside, when we got there it was very nice at the terrace so we decided to stay outside but we realized it was a draft so we asked to be seated inside. It seems there was no problem with that but when we asked for a booth the big lady with red hair said that was imposible since we had a reservation for the terrace.Later I didnt finish my meal and asked toa packed half of the chicken breast. When I got home I realize they packed the chicken with the bones and the skin that I left. Definitely these restaurant its not a place I would recommend to my friends and its not a place I will come back .
I came here on Saturday night with my brother after soending the afternoon exploring the city. Reserved before hand on Resy. Beyond the food something I always look out for when at a restaurant is the staff. They were very nice and attentive from the beginning to end which was great! The food was delectable! For the main course, I had the frenchie burger. It was so rich in flavor, every bite was wonderful. My brother had the steak-frites and he enjoyed it as well, very juicy and cooked to perfectly to his liking. For dessert, I had the lingot chocolat noisette, one word...impecable. I don’t say this lightly, I am not much of a chocolate or heavy sweets person but this was everything. The sweetness was well balanced and not overbearing. We were also given an extra complimentary dessert which I didn’t catch the name of when the mwaiter brought it over but it was delicious as well! I would rate higher if I could, one of the best restaurant experiences I’ve had. Will be back!
My sister and I ate there last weekend and extremely poor quality food especially for the price. I dont mind paying alot for fine dining thats tasty but this was beyond unpalatable. We honestly shouldve walked away when I went to take a drink of sparkling water and the glass had a funky odor. They should really use soap and thoroughly clean their glasses and utensils. Our waiter was great, he had excellent customer service so 1 star for him and 1 star for the appetizer (flat bread and escargot) was actually pretty good. Now, as for the entree:The tiny slice of Branzino tasted like mushy can food, no salt or taste and the undercooked hormone induced burger tasted like a fast food patty at best. The desert was basic, no flavor. We had high expectations for this place but quickly disappointed. I really wish we could be refunded atleast half of the $200+ we spent without any satisfaction or pleasure.
While the atmosphere, service, and plating were pleasant, the food was disappointing. The Boudin Blanc sausage came cold and mushy and the Monkfish dish was an incredibly tiny portion.Edit: I appreciated the restaurant reaching out about our experience. Added a star for their customer service
Bar Boulud is the perfect spot for dinner before heading just across the way to the Metropolitan Opera House for a show. The menu will force some difficult choices as everything sounds delicious on the page, but you cant go wrong because each dish lives up to expectations. Highly recommend the beef tartar and the almond tarte if you have room for dessert. Come hungry because this rustic French fare is quite hearty and filling!
Restaurant week adventure to upper west and food didn’t disappoint except for the dessert. A little too sweet and forgetful after such a great appetizer (chicken liver terraine) and main meal (organic grilled chicken to succulent perfection). Service is nice and decor is interesting :)
What an experience!! We had such an amazing dinner at Bar Boulud. We started with a bottle of Bordeaux Blen from, Galilee, Israel; it was exceptional. For the starters, I tried the mushroom soup. The black truffle crème fraîche and chives really made this one of the best mushroom soup I ever had:-)For the main course, I had to try their award winning truffle burger. It was such a flavor blast in my mouth. A truly juicy, flavorful, delectable burger. For the dessert, I asked for a recommendation and our server suggested I try lingot chocolat noisette. His recommendation was a perfect way to end such an awesome dinner. Every bite of the dessert was a chocolately treat that everyone should try.
We were here with a friend today for lunch, and had a 1230 reservation but were in the area an hour earlier at 1130 and they accomodated us. Besides the gentleman at the front who brought us to our table (who wasnt at all very friendly), we had a wonderful meal there. The waiter was so nice and genuine and helped us pick an amazing bottle of Sancerre. We had the beets & burrata appetizer and loved it. We then each had the 2 course restaurant week menu. Mushroom soup all around and was great. Two of us ordered the Burger with pork belly (Amazing and cooked perfect), and one ordered the Loup de mer (a sea bass) which also was great. They surprised us with a dessert at the end.....also wonderful. We thought portions were spot on.We sat in the back at one of the booths and was very comfortable and relaxed, enjoyed our meal and didnt feel rushed in any way. Just a great experience!
Absolutely fantastic food and service! First meal post lockdown and it was a winner 🏆 and then some. Portions were great, probably didnt need dessert but we went with it anyway and were happy we did. There are partitions between most tables and plenty of space, the staff did a great job cleaning after each group of guests.
The short version, solid food, great service and average price. For a restaurant of this type, which is fine dining, its not the top of the top but you do get food that you have nothing to complain about. As for their service, I think they did a good job of being attentive without being intrusive.
Walking into this atmosphere, it comes off as very calm and elegant. Food is the best we had in a very long time and they have great wine selections. The only reason we gave this a 4 star review because some of their servers rush your stay. Asking if we finished our plate several times in about a 4-6 minute period is unnecessary. With that being said, waiters were very nice.
My son and I had our Thanksgiving lunch at Bar Boulud. The Thanksgiving menu was fine. My Manhattan was fine. And our server was very polite/kind. But in general the service seemed a bit tired a little scattered and we felt like a side thought. It took a long time before our server even came to take our order. Our reservation was for 2:15 and no one spoke to us until after 2:30. I had booked Bar Boulud for us so that we could feel special for Thanksgiving as we’re missing some family this year. It didn’t feel special at all. And for a $300 it would have been nice to feel something in line w the holiday.
This is not the place to go for a meal with professional staff. Would not come again. Not only did the waiter not make any indication of additional costs for his recommended dishes (we ordered dishes for the pre fix menu and each of us clearly indicated we were ordering the pre fix before we placed the exact order), he became super defensive and dismissive when asked about the additional costs. He proceeded to say “well I can just charge you a la cart and get you my manager…. Nothings going to change anything”, which is the least professional commentary I’ve heard from a waiter. The assistant manager who came after apologized but also excused the situation with “I’ve only transferred here a month and a half ago and am still learning”. This was an approx $500 bill and nothing was comped. The manager offered sweet wine to which we all declined but he proceeded to bring. In this kind of establishment, you expect much better service. The two stars is for the pretty good charcuterie board. The entrees and dessert were ok.
I must say we were expecting better based on the recent reviews. Service wasnt that attentive, as if they werent sure who was taking care of our table. We both had the flank steak and eggs dish. The beef was a disappointment. Tough and over seasoned. The potatoes no better than home fries at any dinner and the sauteed arugula just not palatable. My smoked salmon with avocado and capers, a first course, was great though. The almond custard with cherries was nice but just a tiny serving. We probably wont be back for brunch. I have heard such great things about dinner though. Would give that a try.
During Restaurant Week 2019, this duck confit is not even on the RW menu. Maybe its a temporary special, but I am glad I tried it when told by our server. The saltiness in the duck is well balanced by the mixed bean soup underneath. I love those beans!Just in case you are wondering what those porks are at the top right corner of my photo, those were sample slices of pork loin and pork belly from my wife. They are fantastic too. After I came back from bathroom between dishes, my napkin was folded and ready on the table. I know this is likely part of wait staff training at this place, but I do value this as a high level of courtesy and hospitality of the restaurant.
Service is impeccable and food is delicious. They still have the $60 pre-theater prix fixe which is a great deal. Appetizer changes but trout almandine and chicken tagine are always great and grapefruit givre is the -effect summer dessert. One of my favorites in New York.
Ate outside with my aide last week.I gave only 4 stars because it was so noisy .which was not the chefs fault to say the least. The service is outstanding without hovering.Plexiglass partitions are especially welcome besides following .The vichisois CDC guidelines provide some privacy. The food was tasty. the bathroom very clean looking forward to coming for dinner.
🔥🔥🔥One of Best spots in the city. Def best in west side.A limited, perfectly thoughtful menu that changes almost daily. Seasonal delights that never disappoint and staples that make me return as often as my wallet permits. This is THE French bar to go to. The wine list is EXCEPTIONAL and the sommelier always nails it.I recently committed to trying everything on their menu. Best. Challenge. Ever.Favorites: Burger (insert chef kiss), beef tartar, Salade Nicoise, steak frites. Gateau Basque with a glass of Sancerre is nothing short of heaven.Service is top-notch. Menu is perfect.Recommend everyone to try this place at least once. 😍
Where to start, at 5pm you can sit and have a drink only if you order at least one starter/side per person. When you are about to sit they tell you that the table is only available for 90 minutes (at 5pm). Way overpriced, a small bottle of Stella is $9 and a tiny starter $19. We paid $190 in 3 for a couple of drinks with friends. Never again.
I love this place as it keeps evolving. I went to grab a bite after the ballet. I had a Cosmo that was delicious. I ordered the salmon with lentils and spinach it was full of flavor. Its a great place for meeting friends and for a date night. Give it a try you will love it.
I celebrated my nomination last night in this excellent restaurant. I am glad to say that we had a marvelous evening and the venue was absolutely the reason for this strong gathering. The waiters cooperated in a pleasant manner, the cuisine was tasty and my guests were very overjoyed. We shall definitely come back again for more joyful events. thanks very much.
So everything about this place was amazing except our waiter. The food was extremely delicious and well portioned, the service was punctual, the atmosphere was very pleasant, however, the waiter was like a mute zombie. He didnt speak in full sentences, never smiled and not once asked how our food was. I would definitely return here with my husband, especially as it seems they update their menu regularly and its the perfect location for Lincoln Center events, but hope to have a different server.
The ambiance was nice. Clean and well decorated. Lighting was soft and created a comfortable atmosphere. Service was impeccable and the food was delightful. Steak was cooked to ideal temperature and texture. Wine and desert was matching and provided great taste. Definitely will go there again
Food was okay. I had a mushroom bisque that was velvety smooth, perfectly seasoned and had just the right amount of olive oil. However, everything else was mediocre. The cauliflower risotto was over cooked, and the cheese plate was small and dry like it had been cut like s million years ago. Fries were nice and stringy however.Service was similarly bad. They only checked in on us once or twice, and the soup came before the complimentary bread. I must caveat this with the note that I was 30 minutes late to the reservation and we were eating off the restaurant week menu. Ive had much better meals on years past, but I wonder if this is indicative of the new normal.
My husband and I recently dined here. Our experience from the moment we walked in until we left was exceptional. The staff was so friendly and knowledgeable and gave us wonderful recommendations. Everything we tried, from the food to the drinks, was outstanding. The atmosphere was so warm and inviting. We will definitely be going back soon!!
1. It is surprisingly not loud given the size and the number of people inside. So it is really nice to focus on conversation.2. Dishes served there are just awesome. No, beyond awesome.3. The overall ambience is classy but not in a way that would make people feel daunted. In other words, you can feel all the positive atmosphere while not being overwhelmed by it.
Recommended 🥂... I dont have too much experience in French restaurants but, I liked this one👍🏼. Dinner for 2 with drink around 150$ or a bit. More😅 without tip...I say the price cause (Im working class still😋) this reviews is for people like me. 😊👍🏼 and for you get there well prepared.
Im a big fan of Daniel Boulud in general - and I love Bar Boulud! This is the perfect spot for dinner before a performance at Lincoln Center, or after a movie in the neighborhood, or just to dine out with friends. I could come here anytime!Ive eaten here several times (dinners, lunches, brunch) and Ive always been very impressed. The service is great, they have a delicious bread basket, the drinks are very nice - AND THE FOOD IS DELICIOUS!!Tons of great food options to choose from - the servers do a good job answering food questions. They are very attentive, yet dont ever rush you out - which I really appreciate, especially when catching up with old friends.Warning: if you order the large charcuterie platter, be prepared, its very big & has quite a bit of pate (which I dont like) - but great if you do!Their prix fixe brunch is very nice (and good value). The desserts are amazing! Save room for dessert.
I had dinner last night with five friends before seeing The Magic Flute at Lincoln Center. We choice the 2 or 3 course prix-fixe options and shared a delicious bottle of a rose wine. The food was delicious and portions were generous. Service was attentive and the staff had no problem getting us out in time for our curtain without feeling rushed. The atmosphere is casual with a long bar and mostly booths. The noise level was a bit high but not unusual for NY restaurants. This is a great choice for date night, pre-theater or just dining in a casual atmosphere when you want some great food.
Absolutely delightful. We had a booth in the rear of the restaurant, were not rushed, service was attentive throughout, ordered the cheapest wine on the menu yet were treated with complete respect by the sommelier. Be aware that wines by the glass are distinctly pricey.
Came here for NYC restaurant week and was very happy with the braised, fried, glazed fried chicken sandwich. I didnt think you could do so many things to a chicken without it falling apart. Probably one of the best fried chicken sandwiches Ive ever had. Service was fantastic.Though, whats up with the $6 regular coffees. Little pricey considering your cafe next door offers it for $3. Hmm..
I had dinner there about a year ago and truly enjoyed the experience. However, my recent visit was rather disappointing. There was a pair sitting next to me, one of them was some sort of blogger. She was so loud that I was forced to listen to her conversation the whole time (besides, the seating was tight). She brought up the fact that she had many many followers many times. They got the VIP service, free food, food not on the menu, wine, constant greeting and checking either by the manager or the waiter. While I, sitting next to her, had to wait for half hour, just to place an order. It was a rainy Sunday afternoon and there were not many customers so I dont understand why the staff just failed to notice me sitting there waiting. I finally had to ask the hostess to bring me a staff member to place the order. After placing the order, I basically gave up seeing any staff except for receiving my food. The food was OK, a bit overpriced but decent. The blogger next to me was using a big flash light to take photos of the food which was rather disturbing. Would you like to have your lunch with a professional-grade flash light goes on and off next to you all the time? But apparently the priority of this place is to make the blogger as happy as she can be so she can write glowing review. Us commoners just dont count? I am so glad Google still gives us this platform to voice our thought. Also, to the followers of this blogger, would you trust a review that was generated by free, not on the menu food, unlimited wine, and accommodating staff only because they know she has many many followers?
Excellent food, prices a bit lower than for comparable food, but ambience also a bit lower. If you want really good food in a casual place where youll spend a good deal but not a fortune, this is the place. (It shares a kitchen, though not a menu, with the fancier and more expensive Boulud Sud next door.) Warning: The restrooms, also shared with Boulud Sud, are down a long flight of stairs.
The food was excellent, from the amazing white asparagus appetizer, through the delicious flounder and trout entrees, to the perfectly done macaron! Unfortunately the service was weak (our server forgot as about us after delivering our drinks), and the drink prices were exorbitant.
Have been wanting to try their cassoulet for a long time, and finally made it here to give it a whirl. The quality of the meat was excellent, but be warned if you dont like heavily salted food. The wines by the glass were outstanding, the service was professional, and the tab felt like it was more than appropriate for food of this caliber.
Delicious food, knowledgeable courteous service, desserts to die for and located just across from Lincoln Center-a perfect place to have your pre-concert meal. Our wine was superb and most choices on the menu were typical authentic French dishes. A bit pricey and crowded, but friendly and lively. Our party of four really enjoyed it.
Certainly a bit more relaxed than the other Boulud outposts (more in line with DBGB); the location is great, the food pretty good if you stick to the charcuterie/cold plates, the service - maybe a little lacking. The atmosphere and layout are nice, though maybe the acoustics are a little off in some places - but overall, its quite clean and pleasant. The wine/alcohol offerings are great, and as a wine bar exclusively, its a great spot to start the night. The actual full food service and wait staff are a little lacking, based on the brand name and the price point. Service can be meandering, and the full menu is a but unfocused.
Wonderful Lincoln center restaurant! They have astronomical costs starting with rent, well trained waitstaff navigating busily through the one major space. This is not a large bar/restaurant but a beautiful one that calls out to be photographed. Expect to spend a lot, and to be occasionally somewhat disappointed with the service, but almost never with the food. It quiets down after the theater curtains go up. When the crowds leave, the service improves a notch and leaves little room for improvement.
WOW, this place is amazing. Its high quality French dining without any intimidating frills or annoyances. The menu changes monthly (it seems) so theres always something new to try and all the favorite, comfortable French foods remain on the menu. I loved dining here, and its right across the street from Lincoln Center, which makes it a perfect, yet overlooked, pre-symphony or pre-opera dinner spot.
Teriffic French fare. The pates and charcuterie were amazing. Everything on the is great all around. Drinks are top notch. The place is quite pricy but worth it if you can afford it. Make a reservation in advance as they are pretty busy. A block away from Central Park if you wish to take a stroll after dinner.
Wow! I cannot say enough wonderful things about this place! The service was fantastic, the food was delicious, and the location is so conveniently placed across from Carnegie Hall. My significant other took me me here for my birthday, and I will never be able to forget this meal - absolutely stunning from top to bottom!
Was in for the 4th. Ordered a burger that was over cooked and came with no fries? Daughter ordered a salad with chicken. Came out with no chicken. 15 minutes later they brought out the chicken on a plate with a new burger. Server was nice as was the manager. Not what I would have expected from a restaurant like this.
Overall experience was very good, my brother and I had the prix fix, 3 course option. He had the cod loin and I had the coq au vine for main course. Cod was great, the chicken was good but slightly over done. We had the mushroom soup and steak tare tare for apps and both were excellent. What was fun here is that the restaurant opens a very large format high end wine and serves it by the glass. We had a 2014 Gevrey-Chambertin Burgandy from a Balthazar (12 liter bottle). It was of course delicious! We enjoyed our experience and would go back.
Bar Boulud never disappoints. Apps (pate especially good) and entrees are mainly original twists on traditional bistro cuisine. Front of the house deserves 5 stars. They once held our table for an hour (NJ transit strikes again). It goes without saying that the location is prime for Lincoln Center performances.
A good place to enjoy a fine-dining experience. Avail the benefits of the New York Restaurants Week, whereupon you get to select from a pre-set fixed menu, a three course meal with a wine. Of course, if you wish (and can afford it) go for your own selections! A major attraction of this place is the bar, well stocked with vintage wines and all other spirits.
Very classy but also relax restaurant. it is perfect for a a delicious bite. if you love sea food this place have amazing oysters and mussels. The tarters are exquisite if you do not like seafood. They have a huge wine and cocktails selection. The waitress was super nice explaining all the dishes to my friends and adding or taking away some food combinations. the music sound level is great to have conversations, so i would recommended it for dinner with friends!
Dinner was delicious!Didn’t appreciate our waiter trying to sell us additional appetizers.Nor the fact when i asked him to recommend a wine his recommendation was a $27.00 glass, ridiculous!Never mentioning the cost to me of course i should have asked him the question! Just felt cheated
Came here to try their set menu. Excellent service, good alcohol selection, but the food was a big disappointment. Starter soup too salty, sirloin meat was AA quality only with too salty chanterelles, the egg pasta was nice and fresh though, and the dessert was okay. I just expected more from a DB restaurant.
We stopped by after seeing The Nutcracker across the street at Lincoln Center. This is my go-to for Lincoln Center meals, and it did not disappoint, yet again. The layout has changed a little since the last visit (no more communal ring table in the back, and the charcuterie station is no longer at the bar), but the service and food were still quite good. And I have always loved the design of the space. Cozy, on a cold night.
Been wanting to check this place out, since its very popular and when I read in the paper it supposedly had one of the best burgers in NYC, I went the very next day. It was very underwhelming. I got the burger, one of my friends got the Coq au Vin, and another got a third dish I cant remember. None of it was bad, mind you, but considering the hype, nothing was amazing. The ingredients were good quality, but, at least for my friends and myself, there was nothing to make us come back.
On the upper west side in Manhattan, if youre looking for a nice brunch and warm atmosphere, come to Bar Boulud. Friendly greeting, and service was nice. What was a little distracting was the large air conditioner at the front door. It was unsightly and didnt produce a lot of cooler air. The meal was great. Thank youThe Malys
We were six last Saturday for lunch. i had been there before; this timei had a guest from London.we had a table at the back which was fine as it is less noisy.we enjoyed the food, all of us; and i am writing to commend ourwaitress Susan , so quietly efficient !!!! it was a rare experiencein a busy West side restaurant. and my tip said the rest…. FK
Right across from Lincoln Center. Indoor/outdoor seating. Excellent service and food. Patient, they don’t rush you. Unless you’re pre-theatre, and then they’ll time it perfectly. I’ve been there on a date, for my birthday, pre-concert etc. It’s the perfect place if you want something comfortable but not too casual. I also appreciate how they extend the outdoor seating area with large umbrellas (which I’ve sat under while it poured down, they just moved them closer to each other so there were no drips on the occupied tables. Loved it.) and heat lamps. Highly recommend! And always get the madeleines, always.
One of my favorite spots for a special brunch, like when my parents are in town. The fixed price menu offers great options and the basket of pastries is a worthy supplement. Great outdoor dining when then weather warms up. At night, this is a sausage and cured meat haven. Really cant go wrong with this DB outpost.
Unfortunately we had a disappointing experience this time. we went in and told them immediately that we were on a schedule to make a show. Somehow the message didnt make it to our server at the bar and the delay between us ordering and anything happening was too long and we had to cancel our order and leave to make it to our show on time. We stopped somewhere else and grabbed a bite to eat so we wouldnt be chewing our arms off during the show. I would give this place another try, the server really tried to fix it for us but my companion was definite about leaving.
We ate here on Feb 13, 2012, a Monday night. We waited a good 25 minutes for our entrees to arrive. The size of the portions was in inverse ratio to the prices. I could easily count the lentils served with the small piece of amberjack fish Id ordered. The entree of scallops was equally paltry. A side dish of spinach we had ordered never arrived because our waitress neglected to write it down. She never apologized, and by the time she brought it, we were almost done with our entrees. When she left the check, she never bothered to say thank you. Although this place, located opposite Lincoln Center, is an overpriced tourist trap, you would think that at least it would employ professional waiters and waitresses. Alas, even there it failed.
Having just come off of two spectacular meals at Boulud Sud I had high hopes. But this was one disappointment after another.First the only table they would offer us was right up front on the aisle where the waiters and busboys constantly walked by. There were half a dozen booths available in the back but they made us wait 20 minutes before they would give us one. And when we left there were dozens of empty tables and booths. No idea why they made us wait. This was restaurant week...three courses... and like I did at Boulud Sud on Valentines Day and again at lunch during restaurant week I asked if I could choose my dessert after the meal. Nope ...I was forced to choose up front. The appetizers were not veggie friendly (I eat fish but not meat) so I had only one choice ...the salad. It was quite tasty. The bread was decent but not great. The main course was a choice between a pasta and fish and chips. I went with the fish and it was really mediocre. My boyfriend had the pasta and it was tasty but not spectacular. The desserts were also good but not great and actually too large. The waitress was sweet but very amateurish for a fancy restaurant. The bill... $118 + tax and tip. His cocktail was $19 and my wine was $14. And the wine was pretty poor. All in all...the kind of meal you walk out of feeling really stupid for spending so much money. But Boulud Sud was exactly the opposite.. I couldnt wait to try it again.Oh well...live and learn.
Finding a good French bistro at a reasonable price in New York City, as one who has lived here for 28 years, is almost impossible. It may sound immodest, but I can cook far better that 95% of the French bistros in NYC and I am not a trained chef. Fortunately, Bar Boulud offers French fare that is as close to the quality as you might find in France as any place I have found in the city. The bread is fantastic, the cheese choices incredible as with the charcuterie, the Foie Gras, the Boeuf Bourguignon tastes homemade like my French mother makes it, the Salad Nicoise is as good as one can get in Nice, the french fries light and impossible to stop eating when ordered as one of many fine sides, the wine list and wine by the glass excellent, the desserts all delicious (including the awesome fresh, warm Madeleines), etc.The location opposite Lincoln Center great if you have just seen a great classical music, ballet, or opera, and the service has always been great.Indoors is very, very pleasant and clean and not too loud and the outdoor seating is comfortable and not cramped like most restaurants in New York in the summer.Best of all, the great chef Mr. Boulud, who runs many places--including his fantastic restaurant uptown--has not allowed the quality of the food to go down over time, as most places do in the city. He does not disrespect his patrons or feels they may not know what they are eating. In sum, Bravo! But I hope word does not get out to broadly and I am contributing!
I came here with my wife and daughter for my b-day. I had the Coq au Vin. Ive never had it before. It was one of their popular dishes, so I gave it a try. While the flavor was good, the sauce it sat in was a little overwhelming and bold for my taste. If I were to come back, Id try something else.We started with the small Charcuterie board and Niçoise Salad which were really good. They have a very nice selection of wines. They recommended a nice Pinot from a small vineyard in Germany which I enjoyed.Finished with the Chocolate Soufflė. Chocolate Soufflė is my favorites dessert and their Soufflė was to die for. The cherry and pistachio sauce gave a different taste.
I came to Bar Boulud for a pretty happy occasion - a friends engagement party! We were ushered into the private Sommelier room, a nice space that seated about 20-22 people. The service was definitely commendable - it was quick, attentive and friendly as well. The waiter came by with drinks and refills consistently and even volunteered to take photos with at least 4 cameras that our photo-happy group offered. The food choices were simply superb. The hors doeurves were great, and kept coming around for nearly 20 minutes before the meal. For the individual meals, I started with the Salade de Crabe, a light but delicious Maine crab salad. Next up was the Boudin Blanc, a truffled white sausage served with mashed potatoes and apple garnish. I never thought sausages could be light and fluffy but they were! The meal was topped off with a tasty grapefruit-banana compote, which was similar to a yogurty-mousse. I have to say that dessert was my favorite part of the meal, and Im not even a dessert person. To be entirely truthful, the only reason I was hesitant in giving Bar Boulud five stars was because its tough to review based on an event experience, rather than a personal one.
Don’t know if this is or should be associated with Daniel, the service was as good as you get at a dinner in NJ, the mussels, besides being flat and totally flavorless, seemed that they came with the pasta water rather than a broth, so sad that we left it half way there.Snails, best part of them was the bread, not the stone-cold bread and butter they give you when you sit but the warm one that cam with them. So overcooked we felt they were charcoals. Subpar and overpriced.
Spend a penny or spend a lot...wide choice of of tasty food. A sidewalk table on a sunny day is a bonus. Counter service by a very efficient and knowledgeable staff. Boulud quality shines through. Great for a pre- or post-event fast bite directly across from Lincoln Center.
I ordered Atlantic Cod Basquaise. It arrived with the skin which I asked to have removed. Upon return I was left with 2 bites of cod. The dish was all together small and unsatisfying. After Lincoln Center I had pizza. The restaurant atmosphere is that of a subway tunnel. I much prefer Boulud Sud around the corner.
Honestly shocking service. After trying two times to flag down wait staff only to be blatantly ignored after we were first seated, the third waitress heard us say excuse me, walked halfway down the restaurant, then sheepishly turned back and said she did not mean to ignore us. Then the waitress who took our order asked me how I wanted my burger done (to which I said medium), then turned to my boyfriend, who ordered the Boudin Blanc, and said and you? How do you want it done to which he responded ...Uh medium? as he thought she didnt hear my order. Then the waitress looked at him as if he was stupid then sarcastically said, theres no temperature for the Boudin Blanc... Its a sausage. Medium is when the meat is pink on the inside. What???? Then why did you ask how he wanted it done? And even if he was confused there was absolutely no excuse for such attitude. In the middle of our meal she then tried to remove our plate of frites even though it was half done, and at the end of the meal tried to remove the check before we even had a chance to look at it.Seriously confused as to what the hiring and training process is like here. The food is good, nothing extraordinary, but still will never return here due to how poorly patrons are treated here! Never again.
Daniel Boulus never disappoints! This Upper West Side spot is great for a sophisticated yet comforting lunch with a friend. We dined during restaurant week and greatly enjoyed our three course meal. The star of the show was definitely the grilled fish with caponata - it was fresh, crunchy, smooth, sweet, tangy, and salty. I cant wait to go back and try the more classic french bistro fair!
Must have been an off night for them but it was just a fail all the way around - service was horrendous, waiter couldnt come up with a recommendation for food or wine, water glasses sat empty forever, and the atmosphere was just lacking in general. Food was ok but forgettable - we liked the foie gras pate and fish but the rest was downhill, and we ordered a sampling of 8 items off the menu! Had high hopes but felt let down overall.
I have not yet failed at Bar Boulud. It is quit rare to find restaurants that keep a very high and constant level of their cuisine and bar Boulud is one of them. The decor is perfect and the acoustic side is very well taken care of, so one can talk and hear oneselfI liked very much the green peas soup, and I am sorry that they do not stock it on menu any more. It is the most fresh, aromatic lively green pea soup I have ever tasted. I also followed Bouluds recipe and made it at home. Three solid hours of preparation, but a devine result.
A week ago I called to say I had become very ill after eating dinner at Bar Bolud. 3 of us had the same food. I was the only one who became ill. So it was either something in my system or in my particular piece of fish or other ingredients. The Dr. Said it was tainted food. All I wanted was to let them know. I guess they thought I wanted a free meal or something. Anyway, not nice not to respond. I did leave my name and number. Too bad. One expects more courtesy from Bar Bolud.
I had the cherry glazed pistachio duck breast entree and a glass of prosecco. My boyfriend had the lemon fish. He liked his fish, loved my dish. The duck breast was so amazing at a medium sear with a crispy outside and a little of the fat to accompany each bite. Delicious. Would order again if I didnt have IBS! Prosecco at the cheapest glass was very solid. 😉
I must have done something right in my past life to have the good fortune of residing only blocks away from this masterpiece of a deli. Even on a rainy day like today, I coulda swore the sun was shining down on me as I bit into a world of deliciousness..The quality of meats and cheeses here are nothing short of top-notch. It seems like every sandwich they make has the perfect combination of flavors. On top of that, the service here is so amazing, youd think they were family. So much so, that I make it a habit of sampling their spicy sopressata and ever so fresh mozzarella as I wait on them to prepare my pick of the day. Christine even put out freshly made chicken francese samples today! It seems the only problem with this place is the dificulty of having to choose what to commit to!Besides their famously names sandwiches, theres a plethora of premade pasta - so much that I think I can easily get through a weeks worth of dinner with plenty of variety to spare. Btw, as if they needed anymore fanfare, but they just recently made best deli in queens in the daily news last week (3/16)..Need I say more?? I could keep going on.. but Im actually headed back for some more italian lovin before they close for the day.. Salute!
Consistent French bistro fare with great steak frites and plentiful charcuterie options. One of New Yorks best for charcuterie. The French-based wine list with lots of Rhone specialties pairs especially well with the food. The long-thin space can make for awkward traffic flow and service can occasionally seem overwhelmed. Good Lincoln Center option
Good food, though at an expensive price. A great place to go if you have an opera or philharmonic event, just let them know what time you have to be out by. Only real complaint is that the chairs are: a) Not that comfortable, B) loud to move, whether youre drawing one back before you sit or if youre scooting into the table.
Its never a bad day when youre dining at a Daniel Boulud restaurant – and this one is def. on the more affordable side. Bar Boulud has a really bistro-esque feel, a place you feel you can walk into off the street and be seated in reasonable time. Theres a cool back table reserved for tastings and group events, but any table is good. The walls have a really cool texture to them too, with rocks held back with metal cage-like tiles. Im a big fan of the mussels here, as well as the bistro sandwiches. Another great spot for mid-day lunch on UWS or even pre-show dinner.
Hadnt been at Bar Boulud in a few years. What a change - all down hill. Terrible service, actually rude. Warm martini, tasteless main course of trout - left half of it. The place needs an entire makeover. The only thing going for it is Daniel Bouluds name and he should be ashamed of this place.
Bar Boulud serves small portions of decent food at inflated prices. For a place that is supposedly known for its coq au vin, it was surprisingly mediocre and underseasoned. Its also rather annoying to have busboys circling the table like vultures looking to snatch your half-full plate away if you stop eating for a moment to talk to your date. There are better choices in the neighborhood.

2022-05-07Freaking awesome food! Super place to stop in for a cocktail and food before a show at Lincoln center. We didn’t have reservations on a Friday night but we’re able to sit in the bar area. Service was on point and the food was just awesome. Definitely check this place out, you won’t be disappointed.

2022-04-14I arrived early so I asked the hostess if there are any seats at the bar to have a beer while waiting for my friends. The “bar” was more of a communal table with bar stools. When my friends arrived, a server took my beer and coat to the table for me. Very attentive staff 👏Great food, great beer and wine selection (the way to the restroom goes through the wine cellar, whaaaaaaat? Great restaurant.

2022-03-19I dont quite understand the high reviews around this place, probably from tourists...to me it was overpriced and nothing special. I didnt want to spend a lot of money but the company I was with wanted to sit down here. Service was quick and the burger wasnt bad but was it worth the $34 I spent with tax & tip? No. And honestly...the fries they served with the burger were 100% the same exact ones Ive gotten from McDonalds. The pork belly served on my burger was chewy and not crispy the way i expect pork belly to be cooked. Even though the service was quick my 1st glass of water had something gross floating in it and the 2nd one they brought me to replace also had something floating in it. Not impressed.

2022-04-24Wow Awesome place across from Lincoln Center. Food was fantastic. I had the steak and it was very good. She had the hamburger and loved it. The fries were hot, firm, thin and very tasty. We had the steak tartare which is every bit as good as the chefs fancier joints. I had the charred Octopus which was beyond amazing. I am not an Octopus eater normally but I had heard it was so good I decided to try it and I am glad I did. Desserts were great too. First class all the way. Great vibe too. Check out all of our reviews. If we do not like it we do no review it so all of the ones you see are places that are fantastic. Follow us if you like. 2021-10-27Good food, quick service, nice wines. Just kind of straightforward, no wow effect. Except with the sweet potato chunks, absolutely delicious! Thank you!
