Beautiful lovely venue for a great drink well above the Soho area. One thing to note is Bar Hugo is directly below Azul on the Rooftop, but both are in the Hugo Hotel.Drinks are priced like a rooftop, so expect cocktails between 14 to 18, but the bar bites are tasty enough. They also have a great happy hour pricing with most cocktails at 10.We went on a Monday during the summer and the space wasnt that packed, but with the windows fully opened on the west side, the view of the Hudson and Jersey City was stunning. Once you get over your nerves and approach the edge, the reward for your selfies or photos will be worth it.Pro Tip. Go during sunset for the most amazing vistas you will see on the West Side. They are truly something.
Amazing space, stunning view. Visited there 12/16/19. Our service was so spot on with Ariel. She was attentive, kind and shared the history of the hotel and bar. They were having a private party and Ariel and the staff let us know right away at 5 pm that we would have to vacate at 6 pm. A wonderful experience and we will be back!
I came here last night for happy hour with friends! This is a great rooftop bar with a fun vibe- they had great happy hour deals (until 7pm!) and we had a really nice table with a great view of the city. I had the TNT cocktail and I recommend it! I would definitely come back here.
Had an unsettling experience with this place. About 2 weeks ago I arrived about 10 minutes before the end of happy hour. I told the host that it was just me for happy hour and requested outdoor seating. . He was very pleasant and informed me that the outdoor rooftop was completely full and recommended that its best to come right at 5:00 to ensure a place outdoors. So yesterday I came right at 5:00 p.m.. A different host told me they only seat hotel patrons and that they dont take any less than a party of two for happy hour. (For happy hour???!) First off if that is true it should be stated on the website. And secondly why didnt the first guy tell me that? Which makes me think based on other reviews that some of the staff are adopting the strategy of turning away smaller parties. Have to say, I eat out extensively at both expensive and more modest places and even when Im by myself, I have never had ANY venue flat out refuse to take me as a customer in a first come first serve situation.Just plain disrespectful and a bad look, to put it mildly, when people are starting to venture out as paying customers. And how do they know that I wouldnt bring friends or family here at a later date? Well after this shoddy treatment the answer is a definite NO.
Great drinks and awesome views of New Jersey and Downtown Manhattan. Visited in the winter so no outdoor seating, but undoubtedly similarly spectacular. Reasonably priced for a rooftop bar with good selection.Manager dealt with our large party impeccably and was able to seat us on short notice. Recommend!
ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!! We were visiting NYC for the first time in many years for me (and the first time EVER) for one of my traveling companions. We stayed very near by, and had identified Bar Hugo as a definite place to visit. What a treat it was. We arrived just before they opened, and so we had time for a drink in the hotel lobby, before heading up to the bar itself. As fate would have it, we met up with Kevin who is the manager of the bar on the elevator ride up. He was so personable, engaging, and warm. He made a point of checking on us once we got up to the bar, and made us feel so very welcome. There were three of us total, and we got what must have been the best seats/couches in the house. Right in front of the windows and the DJ. Even though it was bitterly cold, they were kind enough to unlock the floor-to-ceiling glass doors so we (and others) could step out on the balcony to get photos of the stunning sunset. Just magical. Our server even loaned one us a charger so one of us could plug her cell phone in. How very kind.We cant wait to get back, and sending a big and heartfelt Thank You to the staff at Bar Hugo for making three Tennesseans feel so at home!
We had a large group of 15 people and they were able to easily accommodate us. This rooftop has great views and great prices for drinks. We had the best waitress Barbara who was able to keep up with our endless orders of drinks. Even the bar manager Tony came by to check on us. He made us feel like we were the most important group with his great customer service staff. Highly recommend for any group gathering or casual drinks with friends.
Well worth the view over the Hudson River. Arrived at 5.10 as the sun was setting we got to pick any seat in the bar. By 6pm the bar was full. No outdoor seating as we went in winter. Great selection of happy hour cocktails & beers. Stunning. Would recommend to anyone coming to NYC.
I always appreciate a rooftopesque bar. This visit was in February, I look forward to a visit in May. Appreciate the happy hour from 5-8, a non-huge bar space with an expected cocktail selection, price and apps menu. A bit off the beaten path so hope that its a bit of a hidden gem. Oh no, stop reading this review!
Great, great place for happy hour. Its a bit out of the way for most people but luckily I work nearby! The sunset panorama views of lower Manhattan/Jersey are beautiful. Happy hour specials here are awesome. $10 for STRONG mixed cocktails, and I believe $7 wines, $5 beer. I had a chocolate martini and was tipsy after just one drink.
Stumbled into this hidden gem, never hard of this establishment before. Promptly and graciously greeted by our server elvin, rest left a mark on my opinion of service industry. Elvin emerged as the greatest server to this date I have encountered. He is like Christiano Ronaldo of servers. The best of the best. Very knowledgeable about drinks, and on taking care of guest. Never a dull moment, and definitely will come back. Definitely will recommend other people because of elvin. With stunning view and service of elvin SATISFACTION GUREENTED.
Extremely poor customer service. At a time when bars and restaurants are struggling to stay open these guys decide to not only be rude, but turn people away at the door because and I quote the doorman We need bigger parties to make money, if you want you can find a party to join. The guy basically is telling me to go find a bunch of strangers instead of socially distancing myself...which is what I was doing.I was told I could wait 40+ min until more groups came in. So I decided to spend my $100+ somewhere else that knows how to treat customers right and actually want to make money. Never going there again and I suggest you do the same. Hotel Indigo and Arlo SoHo have them beat in product quality and customer service.
The customer service is sub par. My friends & I went to happy hour yesterday for the second time. My first experience at the bar was great; however, this time the menu changed and upon receiving our tab the bill was much higher than expected. It turns out that certain wines on their SMALL selection are excluded from the happy hour. Yet it is not noted anywhere on the menu at all. Upon bringing it to the servers attention, she was very rude & said, “Well most people ask which wines are on the happy hour.” Why would any customer think a Chardonnay is not included on the menu as opposed to a Pinot Grigio? Very misleading. The manager was not much more pleasant to deal with either. Some of the wines did taste watered down too. Unless you’re looking for a surprise bill at the end, go to another bar. There are so many better choices in NYC.
Overrated, no view rooftop bar... with a rumored theft problem-views are obstructed and objectively worse than what can be seen just walking by the waterfront-location is out of the way, not in soho nor in the west village. It’s really only worth it if you work in the area-hotel is under construction and is unsightly-stories of bags stolen
Excellent view and good food too. We stayed in the Hotel for a long weekend. Would definitely stay there again. Yhe staff were very helpful. We will definitely be back anytime we come to New York. It seemed like a very popular place for local residents and visitors alike.
Come for the beautiful views, stay because youre confined to a square foot of space along with everyone else in the bar! While theres no denying that Bar Hugo boasts beautiful vistas of NYC, the space you get to see it in makes it so youre looking at the same spot in the skyline over and over, because you cant move around. Now, clearly the above is a minor exaggeration on the size of Bar Hugo, but only minor - when it comes down to it, theres not that much floor space to move around in. Combined with the prices that seem to match the number of floors it takes to get to the roof and the appeal of Bar Hugo is greatly lessened. Much more fun can be had for less per drink and with more space within the Village
View was mediocre; music wasnt really my vibe just one song they played. The setting inside is nice also the bartenders were great just the drink i ordered happened to be bad lol. I dont remember the specific name but it was something with strawberry it tasted like medicine
A superb hotel located in Soho which is one of the perfect places to stay when visiting Manhattan. The rates are very reasonable for a very high quality hotel with a magnificent rooftop overlooking the Hudson and New Jersey. It is clearly a pearl. Little more for the staff who are extremely pleasant!

2022-06-12Bar Hugo was an interesting experience. First and foremost their system for reservation is very tedious. You have to email the place and wait for a response then in your email response they tell you to respond in four hours (although I don’t think they stick to this). Then it wasn’t made clear that the rooftop does not do happy hour pricing so if you’re reserving under that assumption know that is not the case. The side of the rooftop facing New York sadly has construction in the eye line which is somewhat of an eyesore. That being said staff was extremely polite and attentive. The drinks were okay (they don’t provide straws so some drinks were harder to drink-we were offered plastic sporks for frozen drinks). The food was delicious. We had sliders, calamari, hummus, artichoke spinach dip, fries, and steak tacos. They were very accommodating to my friend with dairy restrictions. The sliders were delicious. If you manage to catch the sunset you will be lucky! It was extremely gorgeous. Overall a decent experience but they def need to be clearer about the bar/rooftop and happy hour. My favorite things were the sliders and the spicy fries!

2022-02-25This place is a fantastic bar! 🍸 Bar Hugo, conveniently located on the top floor of the Hugo Hotel 🛏️, serves a great selection of cocktails 🍹 and beers 🍺 with affordable happy hour rates 🏷️ ($12 cocktails and $6 for beers 🍻, ends at 9pm). Definitely try the Fireside Cocktail 🔥 that has scotch 🥃, apple 🍎 cider, honey 🍯, and egg whites 🥚. The view 🌆 is great, the ambience 🎶 is fantastic, and their music playlist 🎛️ is out of this world 🌍 (!) - an AMAZING mix of late 2000 hits! 🎚️ The staff 👨🍳 is super friendly and welcoming, especially Barbara the manger! 👩💼 Will definitely come back! I wish I knew about this place earlier!

2021-07-17Absolutely stunning view!! It is a bit out of the way to get to, and currently near construction, but you will be happy once you arrive. The drinks and food are as good as any, but the real reason to come here is the view. Definitely try to be there for sunset!

2022-05-31Beautiful rooftop!! I came across this gem trying to find walking distance rooftop bars from where I was already in the LES. I came here after brunch a few years ago around 6:30 pm, and the sun was just starting to set.- Daily happy hour (including weekends) from 5 pm - 9 pm. The drinks were alright, but who can say no to HH? I ordered a mojito, and it was so strong that it didnt even taste like a mojito. Slightly sad but I got over it pretty quickly.- Couches/tables are not reserved. So, as soon as someone got up from their table, we rushed to go sit down. The bar area was super packed but the areas around it were spacious enough to stand in or sit but not move around much. Somehow, no matter where I stood, I was always in the waitresss way.- The balcony with the view of Jersey & Hudson River was really nice during sunset. Length wise, it wrapped around the rooftop but the width of it was enough for max 2 people standing side by side (pretty small). The non balcony side of the rooftop had view of WTC which was beautiful both during the day and night. Cant beat it!Definitely recommend if youre in the area. Its a different vibe compared to rooftops in Midtown.

2022-04-01Quiet area in SoHo away from the busy streets of people. And there is a rooftop bar if you dont want to travel to far for drinks and snacks. There is a balcony with a very of the Hudson River, Jersey City, Hoboken, the Statue of Liberty and One World Trade. But it is quite narrow and doesnt fit many people. Overall, it is a chill place.

2018-06-24Sitting atop the Hotel Hugo, the Bar Hugo (one floor underneath the true rooftop, Azul) may be a little out of the way, but its a good spot for a drink, and boasts some pretty great views of Hudson River, Freedom Tower, and even the Statue of Liberty. And on the east side, some of the more iconic skyscrapers. It feels a little posh and the crowd may reflect that, but the music is just loud enough to feel without making conversation hard, and the menu is a little pricey but good. If youre looking for something less formal, head up one more floor for a less posh feel at Azul.
